Barnes & Noble in other cities:
This Barnes & Noble fits great in the city. It has a thinner design than most others, due to being around 4 floors. While its always pleasant, theres always an escalator that is down, which sucks when there arent regular stairs to use instead. All around, a great place to be, with even greater staff!
Huge store and many selections ..Great layout. Food area was packed (Saturday afternoon) not sure on the other days, coffee was good and staff were friendly. I am assuming many people come use bathroom from outside and you can tell by the cleanliness of it, so that must be challenging.
I have been coming here since I was a teenager! Im so happy that they keep certain locations open. This shop is so well organized. The customer service is very friendly, I can always ask for help to find the things I need. I do wish there was more seating but it is such a pleasant place to read or get work done that I understand why its crowded. Love it in there!
Its important to remember that for a good while, this establishment was closed to the public due to Covid-19. Recent municipal rulings have made it possible for folks to come back and shop again. Mask wearing is still encouraged for those curious. For many years, Ive always made it a point of shopping at this great store. From CDs to DVDs, books on numerous subjects, and a great kids section. It never hurts to support brick-and-mortar stores. This particular location has been a personal favorite for over 20 years now. Enjoy!
Was really awesome! Your in Manhattan and you already know shops are huge, and I’ve been to plenty of Barnes & Nobles before which I thought were pretty big, but dang this one is definitely the biggest one I’ve ever been to! It’s huge! It has up to 4 floors!!! It filled with any possible book you are probably looking for if not! They also had lots of toys, bags, and other goods. I believe they also have a cafe, but I didn’t see it. When I went in it was about to close so I had to run around lol! But definitely coming back someday to take my time and browse! There’s great selection and theres much much more than I thought there would be. Can’t wait to come back! I recommend this to all book lovers!
One of the last few bastions of physical media in NYC, it boasts 4 floors of books in addition to media, toys and games. The staff is usually friendly and do their best to help you. It also has a café where you can grab a snack or coffee and sir down to read. Overall a pleasant experience and worth visiting.
I love to visit this shop. On the first floor a lot of actual books. I love the music department. Also order pick up in the cashiers area. Second floor with a lot to find for children. Always helpful employees. Only the lift is obsolete. I prefer to take the rolling stairs.
Very friendly staff. Even though the person at the front desk said the book was in-stock (it also showed as in-stock online), and also having an employee help me look in the actual section, we were unable to find the book. They offered to order it or look for other stores that had it. They also mentioned it might just be on a display table somewhere.Cafe folks were also friendly. They have some Gf options that are pre-wrapped in the display case.
Barnes and Noble,On occasion, I visit and conduct business at your Union Square location on and off for a number of years now. As this location is conveniently located near where I live in the Union Square area.In all honesty, I have not been frequenting as I used to and only as of recent have been making my presence felt more frequent. On April, 16 2022 in the afternoon I was approach in my seating area at your cafe department by a gentleman identifying himself as the manager of the store by the name given of Mr. Tony Walker.Mr. Walker was sent over my direction courtesy of one of your overzealous staff members from your cafe department.I believe a gentleman by the name of Bob. Who as per Mr. Walker expressed to me that it has been called to his attention by this gentleman that the number of times I’ve visited the cafe I’ve had a beverage in hand from another competitor. And as per Mr. Walker exact wording “I will be thrown out of the building, your place of business if it occurs again”.I understand rules, formalities and procedures very well as every business may have them well in place and I for one have some in place in my line of business and in no time I believed I’m an exemption to the cafes rules or in that matter intentionally disrespectful. My discomfort and unpleasantry was Mr. Tony Walker approach and wording. His approach was aggressive, confrontational, bias and condescending and not too customer service friendly as far as my experience in this field goes.As in the very moment Mr. Walker was scorning me with another unidentifiable gentleman at hand, standing next to Mr. Walker silently, there was a table next to me enjoying what seemed to be outside Mexican food that was surely not from your menu selection and not to far away at another neighboring table patrons where enjoying as well beverages that from my familiarity are not part of the cafes inventory as well.I politely brought it to the attention of Mr. Walker in my observation and ask if I’m an isolated incident? When in fact all this extra unwanted activity in managements dislike was all taking place around Mr. Walker at that very instant.Mr. Walker seemed not to be concern with the other patrons and the strict rules or consequences he was instilling in me. In Mr. Walker defense and in good face he pleasantly and delicately approached the patrons at hand and politely informed them of the cafes rules without the threat of removal from your facilities, contrary to what Mr. Walker relayed to me in his communication.I will like to add there was an uncomfortableness and awkwardness with Mr. Walkers approach and the gentleman accompanying Mr. Walker, In finding out later is one of the security guards at post that afternoon. If any where needed for this circumstance?!I have walked in your place of business with a small cup of coffee in hand not emptying out John Steinbeck entire collection from your book shelves.I believe this entire incident was overly amplified and excessive and Mr. Walkers approach could have been subtle and respectful and without prejudgement.I like to add that I’m aware that this location in Union Square, NYC has an abundance of outside people coming in that may not be managements idea customers and I like to believe that you as a company, in a whole, welcomes everyone and everybody regardless of race or creed and unbiased and without prejudgment.Sincerely,Javier Ditris
I looked at the reviews to see if anyone would say what is on each floor but no luck, so here. 1st Floor is Cards, Music and Movie, etc. 2nd Floor is Young Adult, Kids Toys, etc. 3rd Floor is Business, Cooking, Diet, Starbucks, etc. 4th Floor is Magna, Romance, Art, History, etc. Hope this helps, great store and many options, will definitely come again.
They have done a great job in opening the walking space inside. It use to be so many tables with books as soon as you walked in, but now its less and there was no crowds people follow the rules. Every one wore mask. The Cafe also is open again so you can sit and read but limited space. It was a nice day to go with my girls to get some Harry Potter items.
For me, the greatest joy of reading a book is the sensation of holding it in my hand and turning the pages. And Barnes & Noble gets it. They know, that there are legions of avid readers like me, who love reading, who enjoy going to their wonderful bookstores to browse, read, hangout and buy books.I was recently introduced to a new way to launch: a business, product or service by Jeff Walker. I was not able to sign up for his course, but when I found out about the book. I was able to walk into my local Barnes & Noble on Union Square, NYC and purchase a copy of Launch. My deep gratitude to Barnes & Noble and their incredible staff for providing excellent service to book lovers like me.
Really nice cafe to hang out in. However management needs to do a better job with reviewing vaccinations instead of having employees yell out of every walking customer. It’s not a personable experience. Clean the tables more often also. Employees attack you for vaccinations I understand it’s needed but really to attack customers? I will never entertain this. Train your people to work diligent but courteous.
Excellent Staff especially in the department of DVD movies today I spoke to someone regarding Christmas stock the young man was patient, polite, and extremely helpful. Always in the kids academic section to look for workbooks the staff is very polite, professional & helpful. Love the 14 Street East Barnes and Nobles number one store!
New ownership has created a more inviting space. Store was very busy today with a long line at the cash register. Great selection of books which are a product that is never out of style. Treat yourself and/or someone else to a book, an item that is always a wonderful treat.
I have been to this store many times and what I can say is, the staff are VERY FRIENDLY and make the customer feel welcomed. If I have a question, any staff that I asked went out of their way to make sure I was able to find what I needed. I recommend going this store and I myself will be going back to shop.
Its Barnes and Noble and exactly what you expect. Ive been to nicer ones, but I appreciate that this one is spacious. The 2nd floor is all childrens and young adults! The set up is nice. They had at least one employee in the childrens area that was really helpful and actually knowledgeable. I didnt check out the other areas, but for families, its great!
This is the Union Square’s B&N. Café, children’s and adult events. Great selection of gifts, toys and games. Nice place to meet other bibliophiles. New releases and classics, all under one roof. Expansive musical section with modern and classic selections in the mediums of compact disk and VINYL (and yes... B&N also sells the turn-tables!).
Real review 5 stars1 star because security is trash;Person yells at me for me asking which door was open to leave the store. (closing hours)Person closed the door at me for no reason while other people were inside. I felted targeted. I also felt mocked.I am a customer who buys books here weekly. I stayed calm, and they did not act professional.I buy here weekly and spend real money.I get you had a stressful day but dont bring your angry to me who did nothing wrong to you.Store is great, security made this one star. Not the store.Going to another B&N - I dont like the way I was treated on my way out. Also been going here since 06 so that was super unexpected to be treated that way.
This Barnes & Noble is one of my favorite of all time in NYC; a staple of the NYC Union Square area. I used to just go here and read for hours, sit on the floor and escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Conveniently located in front of Union Square park, features a coffee, bathrooms, and there are elevators and escalators to the top floors. The Spanish collection of childrens books is getting better and better with the years!
This is, to my knowledge, the biggest bookstore in the United States. If youre looking for something they probably have it, and if they dont ask a staff member and theyll order it for you. Their cafe has lots of seating, theres two bathrooms and even a bench just for reading. The only issue is that I can never FIND a staff member. The desks are always empty and I have to wander the four floors to find a person to ask.
Massive book store north of Union Square park. They host book launches with renowned authors and many other events throughout the year. The store spans multiple levels but still manages to feel charming and cozy. There’s a large section dedicated to children’s books and toys. There’s a B&N cafe serving Starbucks coffee and free WiFi. The public restroom is on the second floor.
Beautiful bookstore with a whole Myriad of choices. And the food was good. I enjoyed that spinach and feta stuffed pretzel and the Reeses cookie. They both were really good but that rReeses cookie was the bomb. Great place to eat a snack and read what you want without actually paying for the book. I also remember when I saw Asa Akira on the top floor do a book signing/ reading. That was pretty dope. I will be coming here more often so they will be more reviews
Love this place. 4 floors, huge selection, and the staff is so nice. I was recently there to look for a specific book and I couldnt find it. 2 employees helped me look on 2 different floors until it was found (it ended up being on sale so it was in a different location). Always a lovely experience at this store.
Manager was called to resolve an issue in the Cafe. 30 minutes later manager arrives, the Cafe server identifies me as the customer but it took the manager another 5 minutes to greet me. I don’t believe she will carry through with the resolve because she does not possess ANY customer centric qualities or concerns. I get it, the stores are just opening to customers and it’s hard to good help. I will contact corporate on my issue.
I love this book store so much. They have such a great collection for NYC. Not to mention bathrooms if youre ever in the need around union square. Pretty good selection of graphic novels on the top floor. The lecture area is great when you just want to relax and sit indoors for a while (provided there is no lecture/event). Its in a fairly lovely old building as well.
Great place to visit when in the area!! Its standard Barnes & Noble but with four whole floors with books galore! Has a sit down cafe to read in which is a nice touch. Very accessible with escalators and elevators. They also have coupons on reciepts for the cafe. Overall great bookstore, and a nice location if visiting the area.
Absolutely horrible online customer service! I ordered a book online for one of my classes, and I paid $17 dollars for two day shipping. All together I spent over $40 on a book for one of my classes. The expected shipping date was October 13th, and they didnt even ship for 5 business days! Again I needed this book in time for one of my classes and they never shipped my book in time for my class. I wanted to cancel my order 5 days later after it never shipped. I contacted online Customer Service twice about this issue. They said they couldnt cancel my order because it was already in the process, but to begin with it never shipped. Online Customer service said I had to return my book but what guess what I got when I returned it? Twenty Five lousy bucks from Barnes and Noble! Not the full $40 I spent on the book. I a student for goodness sake and I gave them money for a two day shipping that never happened! Im never giving these people money ever again!
Celebs galore, lots of John Douglas books 😍Awesome huge 4 story book store with escalators. Spotted lots of celebrities on a Friday and Saturday afternoon. Perfect place to get kids toys as well. Right next to a well known park which is full of multimillion dollar condos. Gorgeous spot if midtown.

2021-10-22I am just a window shopper at B&N. I love perusing the books and exploring the 4 floors. They have a great selection of books, toys, and board games. Their Lego collection is good without bothering to go to the crowded lego shop, saving tons of time! The cafe is great too. Always a great place to visit and get away from the outside crowd.

2021-10-14I love this Barnes and Noble location. Its 4 floors and is well stocked with a nicely curated selection of books. The number one thing I love is that on the 4th floor they have an amazing selection of manga. Like several isles of just manga and light novels. They have a lot of manga that are more mature and some less popular harder to find titles. Its one of my favorite things about this location. The workers are also really nice. There is a coffee shop on the 3rd floor that seems to currently be allowing dine in and has nice views of the park. And the building is gorgeous.

2022-06-26Great selection of books over several floors. The ground floor is spacious and allows for easy browsing of the latest paperback and hardbacks across both fiction and nonfiction. The tables with topic/theme groupings often provide inspiration too. Helpful and friendly staff

2022-05-09Great place. There are so many levels and a large variety of books to choose from. Always fun to sit and browse. There’s also a cafe at the third level if you want to buy a drink or snacks. They also sell stationary, albums, and toys… can’t get bored here.
