Barnes & Noble in other cities:
Worst starbucks experience I’ve ever had in any city. Staff was insanely rude and unwelcoming. Raising their voices in a rude way when they didnt understand what the customers were saying. Even made fun of my little sister when she was unsure of her order. You can hear them laughing at other customers from the seating area. Definitely does not reach the standards of what starbucks is known for.
Ray and his crew were incredibly helpful for me and my wheelchair! It is such a pain and Ray made everything easy for me to visit a book signing. Not everyone is understanding and accommodating but he and his team were amazing. Clean store, good food at Starbucks. Perfect experience.
Although the store is smaller than the one located at Union Square, staff are more polite and more prepared to work with customers. Ive found and amazing tarot- unique Id say - inspired in Salvador Dali , and an amazing book with the complete works of Michelangelo - priceless! And the granny-lady in the cashier, the noblesse in person! Extraordinarily polite, educated and smart !
Visiting Barnes and Noble stores became a staple activity for me throughout the pandemic because books always calm and nourish my being. Not only do the stores stay open throughout the health crisis under challenging times, Barnes and Noble upped its game providing amazing selection of books and improved store display aesthetics. Cannot do without my delicious Starbucks hot cappuccino and cafe mocha from its signature BN.com app enabled cafes too!
Terrible customer service: very unwelcoming:I went to pick up a book. The book section I was interested in was to the side of a talk going on. I went to look for the book. I was told by an associate that I should leave and a fellow employee could get the book for me. I speak to one associate who was disinterested and unhelpful so I figure she was a stocker and left to talk to customer service. In the customer service line I was told that they do not have the book. Their website said they have the book in stock. I think they lied to me so they wouldnt have to do what the initial associate said, that they would be willing to pick up the book for me from the section once I told them what it was. I just wanted the book. I suspect they lied to me so they wouldnt have to go get it. I will see if it is in stock tomorrow. If it is I will complain to the manager.Update: Book was in stock. They lied.
The staff was very helpful! I was given hello finding my books quickly and the staff was friendly and you could tell they were passionate about books. The cashier also helped a lot. In the end I left with a membership cause its a great store with great people running it. Glad its so close to work!
This Barnes & Noble store is one of my favorites. I know they all look the same inside, but theres something very calming about this one. Its never very crowded and there is a Starbucks inside. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I work nearby and I like to go in just to duck in to get a few minutes of peace, see what new books are out, and get a cup of coffee before I head back into work. There are tables near the Starbucks counter where you can sit and eat if you would like to. Theres a small selection of food as well as the usual Starbucks drinks. This store is also a good place to stop in quickly for a last-minute gift. There is a really nice assortment of journals and other gifts. I usually go to this particular Barnes & Noble store instead of going to the one closer to my home because it is more relaxing.
Its a good store. Dont get me wrong...go find a local book store instead...but with print media going under just buy a book!Anyway, Im here for reviews so here we go. Its hard to find. The door is on the side of a building opposite of the windows. You have to find it, go up an escalator, and then youll be there.Inside, its pretty big. Lots of kids books and toys. Probably half the store is kids stuff.Theres also a big area they use for book signings and lectures. Its pretty cool.
Good Starbucks cafe inside with small tables making them personal. Limited amount of books, but that is because of the size. Some staff are super super helpful, some which I think its the higher up staff like managers arent helpful and just worried about leaving on time, so dont go their late and expect good help if the managers are there.Other than that i find the place really good place to check out books and to enjoy.
How is this place still able to pay rent?Nice to be able to browse, good for kids to have a place, better enjoy it before it becomes extinct.Executives at B&N need to do something fast. Retail experience is lacking and is nothing more than a library at times, with inconsiderate non-customers using it as a library, destroying merchandise.
Super full all the time. People were sitting on the floor everywhere but when I tried to do the same in a corner the security guard came and was rude. I was confused because I saw him walk past whole groups sitting on the floor. The actual Barnes & Nobles is really nice but not worth the rudeness and selective reprimanding. The seating situation could be nicer instead of having a bunch of seats crowded in one area having them spread out so people can sit comfortably in different areas.
Im a college student, and usually during the gaps between my classes, I go here to read comic books. I enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, the respectful people, and the friendly staff. The environment is very clean and orderly. Its a great place for parents and their toddlers to play in, with the stores large stroller parking area. In all, this a great place to relax and catch up on readings, with their wide variety of books.
This is a great Barnes and Noble! The employees are friendly and they have a good selection of books. They also have lots of interesting events with authors and stuff. In fact, once they had an event with Stephen Chbosky! The store has a charging station which is also very useful and a Starbucks with a good selection of food and drinks. Its a nice place to hang out with friends or quietly read a book.
This is probably my favorite Barnes and Noble in the city. It isnt the largest one (I think the Union Square location takes that honor) but it has some of the friendliest staff and it is in a great location. It has a good selection of books and various knickknacks that are great for gifting. As mentioned, it isnt the largest location (only one floor) but it is certainly big enough and you should be able to find most of what you are looking for. A couple of times a year they put out a large clearance section and you can find some real gems there. The cafe is also great. The baristas and other employees are always very friendly and it is generally not too hard to find a seat (although it does get a little crowded in the winter months and around the time that schools get off since it is near several schools). One thing to note is that it serves Starbucks coffee but it is not actually a Starbucks cafe so your Starbucks gift cards and membership wont work here.
Excellent store! I reserved a book here online for in-store pickup. The wait in line was about two minutes. The lady who checked me out recommended two related titles that were very relevant to my purchase. She was clearly very passionate about books and social issues.I highly recommend this location.
This Barnes & Noble is located perfectly, next to the Kelloggs store, the pet shop, theater, Union square Park, its just great. Also, this may be the largest B&N in Manhattan, with 4 floors of books, unique toys, and games, the cafe, and excellent customer service ready and willing to help on each floor. The selection is excellent and you can normally find what you want here ...its also surprisingly so well organized, considering they are such a large store.
Beautiful store, poorly organized. Customer service was nonexistent.I was looking for the Science books section. Customer service lady passed me by, talking on the phone, I asked her for help, but she never came back. There was no one else around, so I decided to ask one of 2 cashiers. Here is a dialogue that followed:Cashier- Science Fiction?Me- No, just Science, Physics, Math etc.Cashier - OK, but we dont sell textbooks .Me- I dont need a textbook, just Science section thank you.Cashier- go to customer service, they will tell you .Me- shes on the phone and shes busy, theres nobody else to help in the entire store, so thats why I figured I can ask you...Cashier- Go to customer service. (After I left, to my back) Well, its not holidays anymore! Really?!! Its not holidays anymore? And thats the reason you can provide poor customer service? This is just sad.Turned out, the Science books were stuck all the way back behind Childrens books, next to crying babies leaving after childrens event...🤣🤣
One of my favorite Barnes & Noble. It’s a very pleasant atmosphere with a friendly and knowledgeable staff. The café area is relaxed and quiet, which allows you to get work done. (Unlike the Union Square location, which tends to be a bit more chaotic.) Overall, a nice addition to Tribeca.
B&N has always been my favorite book store even when Borders was still around. They had more selections to choose from. They were always helpful in getting books they didnt have in stock. Although I do have a Kindle it does not stop me from walking into a B&N if I have the time to peruse the aisles. My experience if you reserve a copy of a book online for store pick-up I normally am able to get it that same day at one of the cash registers. Always a pleasant experience.
My favorite location is this Tribeca one. It is very relaxing here. Feel free to browse, flip pages and grab something from Starbucks which is located inside. I like to make sure I buy my books from BN since Im always worried theyll go out of business. The place is just way too welcoming and full of charm. I especially love it during those cold NY months. The wind blowing from the Battery, and this place provides the perfect warmth.
This is the worst store I have ever been to. I am in town for 2 weeks and wanted to find a couple of inexpensive toys for my 2 year old. I was approached and asked if I needed help. I said I was just trying to find a few inexpensive items to keep my son occupied for a couple of weeks. The man offered no help or advice just told me that at lot of nannies come in the shop so kids are not to touch any of the toys, and the stared at my son who was picking up toys then putting them back neatly on the shelf. I had promised my son a toy so I had to buy something, even though I didnt want to. At the checkout I told the cashier that I think its ridiculous that they are selling toys but kids are not allowed to touch anything. The guy just looked at me and told me quite rudely to just put my card in the machine. When I said I was shocked at how rude everyone in this store is he just looked at me. I only arrived in town yesterday and in every other shop the staff have been super lovely and helpful. This was not what I expected from a US store.
I like this Barnes and Nobles store because its very spacious and easy to access. It has only one floor which I like and the staff is very friendly. Their selection of books is a bit more versatile than other Barnes & Nobles stores. They have a great philosophy and history section and their selection of psychology books is worth a good look to.
I was going on a short trip and I left my book home, alas. So I took a brief walk over to the Warren St branch of B&N, found the Kate Atkinson department, bought the book I was looking for, and was treated with courtesy and friendliness as I checked my book out! The time before, Id gone to redeem a $50. gift certificate. I found three books, one of them the particular, the most recent Edward St Aubyn novel and again was treated with consummate graciousness by the cashier. Not a place for erudite texts, book a good solid--and pleasant--store!
Barnes and nobles is great for finding all the kid books imaginable. Your able to sit in a designated area for reading kids books without being bothered. But, if you even carry in a drink not purchased at b&n or sit on the floor youll be asked to leave or to move. Good location, slow staff.
My first time at the TriBeCa location of Barnes & Noble Booksellers on Warren Street was very enjoyable. I received very good customer service, and was very happy with the selection of Cozy Mysteries, journals, and note card sets. The associate who rang up my order is named Barbara, and she was VERY professional and polite, and also gave me EXCELLENT advice on refraining from over-packing when traveling. I look forward to returning to this location of Barnes & Noble Booksellers, and very soon.
Great place if you are looking for books of any kind, you can even read then there as there are chairs and tables (tables I think are exclusive for starbucks costumers) oh, that as well, it has a starbucks inside. Theres also a kid sections, with lots of books and toys, and a section juat dedicated to music and movies/series. Definetly worth a long visit
The place is fairly roomy and theres a decent variety of products, in general. Its usually not crowded, either. If youre looking for a place to sit, though... good luck.On another note, its also not a very good place to find collectors items and merchanside, in spite of its location and size.
This is a pretty good Barnes and Nobles it has a community center vibe to it. It seems to be a hotspot for the Tribeca mom and caretaker to bring children to and the store caters to them with their own section and stroller parking. I like the cafe here because if youre lucky enough to get a seat by the window. You will have a fantastic view of the street below which if youre looking for inspiration is a great source. They have a great book selection I have always been able to find anything I want and anything I couldnt find the staff was very helpful in finding a solution for
The Warren Street retail store is large, comfortable and highly enjoyable. Its a wonderful place to spend time.I greatly appreciate that Barnes & Noble placed on its shelf three copies of my novel, The Complaint. One copy was sold and friends told me they will buy the other two. However, I was informed by an employee of the store that there is no procedure for restocking the shelf.Im hoping the manager of the store reads this and is able to establish a procedure for replenishment as sales occur. Thanks,Tom Breen
Made me feel very unwelcome. My 1 year old saw some fun toys so I took her out the stroller to play with one on the floor. Manager comes along and says we cant play on the floor with the toys. I apologized even though I didnt think I had to since there was lots of other people on the floor too. I then put her back on the stroller and walked a few aisle over. He walks by me again and gives me a stare. At this point I feel targeted so I went to the children sitting area and sat down. Baby is quiet and I am on my phone waiting for my husband and 6 year old to finish shopping. This guy comes back AGAIN this time with another manager and tells me I cant sit there with the stroller. I had it. I gave them a piece of my mind and left immediately. I felt horrible that I wasnt able to get the books my 6 year old wanted. But I refused to give my hard earn money to a company that made mel the way they did. I dont know if it was because I am Puerto Rican or I had tattoos....but I was able to find the books on Amazon. I am going to be shopping for books in Amazon from now on.
Whenever I come to Barnes & Noble, I look into the Manga/Anime section to catch up with the latest issues. while reading that I would go to the café section and pick up either a bottle of NAKED or drink a cup of tea. The carpets make great for sitting on, as well as laying down, after those stressful days at college. I can say that I truly appreciate the quiet space Barnes & Noble offers for thinkers such as myself. All in all, I wouldnt choose another book store over Barnes & Noble.
I came in here, bought two items from the gift area, spending about $38, then took a look at several titles, which I decided to think about rather than purchase right away. An Middle aged male, balding employee super creepily FOLLOWED me almost out of the store to essentially INTERROGATE me about why I hadnt purchased any of the items Id looked at. I explained I had already made a purchase, but should not have been approached in this way in the first place. Very strange behavior, will not be back.
There was an old lady who sounded slightly British in the cashier today (06/03/2016) who had an attitude, and when I complained about the credit card chip reader not working properly, she told me that its been used in other countries for 25 years already. Like us the dump americans (who I am not) cant use it properly. Fire her !!!
I went to purchase a book that I saw on Barnes and Noble website and I called to check if they have it.When I showed up at the store instead of the listed price of $42 they wanted me to pay $90.Apparently their online pricing is only for online purchases.Shame on you for ripping people off. Ill never shop from you again!
(12.22.15 at 215pm) Mr. JOSH at the register had a hard time with me paying with a one hundred dollar bill. He blankly stared at me as if waiting for me to give him something else to pay with. He was so bothered by the 85 dollars he had to give me in change, he slapped it as he was counting, and just rolled up the cash and placed on on the counter. Please give this guy a 15 minute break to get a latte and cookies at the starbucks to lift up his spirits.

2022-05-24One of the last places to actually buy a book in person. I can walk around, browse, find new books I may not have known about. They have a huge selection, its a very large store. Very extensive magazine section also which is nice. Not everything translates well to an iPad. I personally like to hold a book & magazine when I read. Im not a weirdo, I have books on my iPad/phone also but sometimes its just nice to turn an actual paper page.

2022-03-03Worst barnes and noble I’ve ever step foot in. Staff was extremely rude, security guard follows you around for AWHILE. I’ve been going to this store for 3 years or more at this point, and I’ve spent a gross amount at this location, and I continue being treated this way. I honestly feel like they discriminate against me, because they’re so attentive to any white customer. I’m a teenager and I guess they assume I won’t be buying anything, but also treat me like a criminal. I’m almost never left alone in this location. :). The cafe isn’t great either. You can hear staff laughing at customers from the seating area, not only that they get audibly angry at customers and raise their voices. Would not allow my Starbucks drink from a different location despite me paying for food at the cafe. I honestly don’t see how they would care, and I’ve been able to bring in drinks before???? Overall just feels like they like humiliating you

2022-03-10I go to this store a lot like every other day. The security man is horrible!!! I got followed 4 different times I’ve been here by the same guy. I like this store cause it’s close to my school, I come here to work on my laptop or during breaks. Honestly most of the staff is rude and disrespectful, and have you followed for no reason.. I don’t buy anything in store anymore since I can never find what I want in stock, but I used to spend a lot of money here, but I have a feeling they think I steal cause I walk around a lot.

2020-08-17It’s finally open again! This place has a huge selection of books, toys, gift ideas, magazine and stuff! The place is clean. If you’re looking for a place to grab a snack and coffee while browsing books and magazine in the Tribeca area then this place is a great place. A couple blocks from the WTC area too. Highly recommend this place.

2018-12-02My husband works around here and decided to take me to browse for toys for our daughter. Its an amazing store with a giant childrens section with plenty of room for storytime and for kids to explore. The toy selection was amazing and mostly educational. I loved the variety and how open the entire store is. The staff was super friendly and kind. We bought a gift for our daughter and got free gift wrapping outside the store by a non-profit organization which was a nice perk. Check this store out and enjoy the ambience. Loved all the book selections and wish I had room at home to store more books.

2019-01-08Great store. There is a wide selection of books and the staff is great. They have a starbucks and a good area to sit down at. Foe being in the city its never extremely busy. Its very peaceful and I highly recommend coming here for books and coffee.
