Barnes & Noble in other cities:
I was just in this location looking for a single book in a series. I ended up purchasing the entire series, plus the first in the second. Ms. Diana helped me, and she talked about this series and author with the same love that I had for Harry Potter as it was being released! It was so nice to speak with someone working there who has a love for the same books you do! Thank you so much Diana!
Loved it. The store was bright and room temperature, and the range of books were just amazing. There were sections for magazines, cards, novels, school books, kids books, manga, kpop etc. They keep the books updated and varied. There was even a sitting area for us to relax. I also see students there often.
Just curious...There is a sign clearly stating that the tables are reserved for dining. Why are 8 people taking up those tables with NO FOOD OR DRINKSI know Staten Islanders have a huge sense of entitlement but why isnt management keeping the tables cleared for customers who would like to SIT DOWN while they are eating
Just came back to Staten Island after almost 14 years. New look to it. Barnes and Noble is on the outside in the front. Its no library, but is a good sized store for the mall. Got the new book I was looking for and received a voucher good for a month for their cafe, which is in the same store. Disnxt notice much on staff, but who I had encounted made up for it - very polite and welcoming.
The only bookstore on the island (sadly). There are not enough employees one on register, one on the floor. If you need help you might be stuck, once you get them theyre knowledgeable and friendly. They have everything you could want including overly sweet and overpriced coffee.
Cant believe the new Barnes and Noble the cafe has more square footage devoted to it and the book department is about 30 % smaller. Its a shame for those of us that read. There is always union square and even Jersey lol perhaps any place has a better selection than staten island
Prices are horrible. Convenience of being able to physically browse and the polite and helpful staff make up for it. Store is clean and organized. If the prices were competitive Id give 5 stars. I should add that they do sometimes have very fairly priced signed copies if youre into that sort of thing.
Staff was very friendly there and had full passion about their work. I tried to shop for some books for friends kids Christmas gifts but had no idea. The staff led me to the right sections, explained to me which books are good for the two different age kids, and gave me different recommendations. Cashier was very friendly too. They still provide free gift wrapping when you asked for it.
I love going to Barnes and Noble and not just because of the books. I also go for the lovely cafe they have and the relaxation of enjoying a bite to eat with some wonderful coffee. Alas, this time I went with my girls, I was so disappointed. There were no seating at all so I could not enjoy my visit. No sitting with my kids at the table having a Chocolate cookie, or the asiago pretzel. No sipping tea or coffee. I was so disappointed that I didnt even buy the 15 to 20 books I usually get. Im looking forward to when Covid is over and I can enjoy my time at Barnes and Noble.
You can always find a good gift here for just about anyone. There is a huge selection of books for all types of readers. The childrens section is vast and there is plenty of room if you want to sit down and share a story with your child. The staff here are knowledgeable and friendly
I am very unhappy with the new Barnes and Noble. The staff is great and staff at the Starbucks is great as well but other than that I like nothing about the store. I have spent hours upon hours at the old location. My children loved it there and we often would spend an afternoon sipping, reading and purchases many items. There was a special feeling in there, it was very cozy and some how I feel that feeling is very lost in the new store. It is too open and bright(not in a good way), I don’t feel at home in there. I wish they would make it cozier in there so that I can go back to spending time browsing, sipping and buying again!
Such a shame that the old location closed down! The old location was truly wonderful—a Hogwarts-wondrous esque style filled with nooks and crannies, little places and details and wide, soaring ceilings. The new bookstore is more modern but less memorable and much smaller, ramped, and busy as it is located near the mall. The new location really loses its charm comparably.
I love this spot. It is quality. It is actually quite peaceful in their sitting area on the second floor. One wouldn’t think so with it being right on Richmond Avenue but it is actually nicely set up. It has that “bookstore” charm. It’s not too noisy it’s quiet and peaceful. Always a pleasure going there.
A month ago I went to this Barnes and noble to buy my nieces some books and my son a Thomas toy when I get to the register to cash out this young woman said something about my son and called him a girl … I corrected her and she said “ oh I don’t feel bad “ knowing how I am I decided to just pretend I didn’t hear anything . But when I do go back and she does the same thing imma want a word with her and her manager outside .
Had gone to the old store for years. Parking was easy. I would visit often( at least 3 times a month. It was warm and easy to spend hours in just browsing. The self serve kiosks were fantastic to look for a books location and availability. The new store is inconveniently located at the Staten Island mall now. The parking lot is across what I feel is a four lane race track which makes it difficult to get to the store with children in tow. The store is cold and much smaller. Much smaller selection of books than old store. Finding books in the store or if they are in stock is an aggravating task. With the exclusion of self serve kiosks the only choice you have is to find an employee which are scarce to search their computers for you. 4 out of 5 times the books I was looking for were not available which then the employee asked me if I wanted them to order the book for. Why would I want them to do that when I can go on Amazon and have the book delivered to my house the next day and for cheaper. What Barnes and noble I think is forgetting that people like to go to their stores for an experience and not just the product. The old store had a Starbucks tucked nicely in a corner of the building out of the way but conveniently accessible. The new store isn’t just accessible I feel as though it’s a Starbucks with a Barnes and Nobles in it. The Starbucks real estate is huge. It’s sad to say I won’t be visiting this store anymore.
Working in retail, you know exactly how the workers try stalk potential shoplifters and stop them because you used to do the method of pretending to clean or converse around them to scare them off. The area where I was looking for books was completely empty until a group of workers decided to “have a conversation” by me that had about 5 topics to it so it wasn’t a solid convo. Not to mention I was in there the night before and was greeted/asked if I needed help but today I did a return with one of the workers I recognized that I had a convo with the night before and her demeanor was completely off even though I made it easy for her with my receipts for the books. Considering people spend hours in BN to study or read a chapter of a potential purchase, I didn’t think the workers would be suspicious of me staying in a section too long or maybe I’m thinking too much of it but I’d rather travel to jersey than to go back to this location because of how uncomfortable i felt.
There’s something about this store that just makes me never want to leave. I never miss getting my Starbucks and enjoy looking through their markdowns, new releases and books for kids. On a slow day you can get a chair and sit and read with your coffee. I have my membership that gets me discounts on everything and pays for itself over and over. This store is a great asset to the neighborhood.
I love this place so much and come here often. I am a book worm and enjoy spending my free time to relax here. The starbucks located inside has a great variety of products that other starbucks dont have such as cupcakes and cheesecake. The place is always clean and well decorated. The staff are very professional, helpful, and very polite. Please keep this store in this location and dont ever close. This store helps me cope with depression after losing my mom and is a motivating factor in my life.
Huge place with a large variety of items, not just books but toys, calendars, DIY kits, book ends, etc, etc, etcThe people are super helpful and they hace a huge amount of books on sale. The coffee place has a great aroma as soon as you enter.Super clean and organize and a nice size parking lot.
This was the best location. Im a graduate student, I loved going there to study and read for hours. I enjoyed seeing my children and other children peacefully reading and looking for new reading adventures. Im very disappointed they moved Barnes & Noble to the Staten Island mall? Why? who wants to be around mall and tourist foot traffic??
Barnes & Noble is like going home...they have everything I need in terms of educational and entertaining literature. Additionally, Im a passionate music lover and find they satisfy that passion in store or on their website as I can order just about any recording easily in seconds at reasonable prices through them and/or affiliated suppliers. Excellent place to introduce children to the fundamentals of reading as a fun experience. Update: theyve moved to an outside location on the S I. Mall grounds...much smaller, no longer selling music of any kind in any form which is very disturbing to this music lover. Lighting overhead is painful to eyes..they need to adjust that ASAP. A place I used to love getting lost in for a few hours is now a place I couldnt wait till get out of...what a shame!
I left very upset. I mentioned that the location of this store was not very handicap accessible. They apologized and said they only work there and I said I understand. Poor planning on the malls part and Barnes and Nobles part. Then she said well you could order on line. I said my daughter enjoys her independance and would love to come here and see people, look at books just like you. This store makes it almost impossible unless .
Sad to hear they are moving to the mall. It’s cool to get to just pull up and go in there. The Starbucks inside is a plus! They have a great assortment of books, gifts and music. The children’s book is awesome and they have a huge selection of children’s gifts. They have greeting cards as well.
I always go here for a book. This Barnes & Noble store is a huge store carrying a wide range of books. The parking lot is big so you do not have to worry about parking or parking on top of other cars. Inside the place is clean and neat with everything so easy to find. If by chance you cannot find something the staff there are very helpful and will find it for you. Also they have computers in the aisle so you can search for yourself or even order a book if they dont have it. One of the best bookstores around and its here. The cafe inside is also a great choice with alot of different things you can sip and read. I advise that you shop here if you ever looking for a book or books.
Staff is always helpful and friendly. They have two different play areas that keep my 3 year old busy while I read, and also keeps him interested in books. The only thing that sucks is they got rid of those big comfortable chairs, and even the stuff wooden ones. If you want to hang out and read, you have to sit on the floor now.
I love Barnes and Nobles, this one is decent they have limited seating but they have a great cafe with substantial seating. They dont have great sales, but with a gift card and a decent sale section it is worth a visit. It is also one of the few B&Ns still existing in the area.
I watched as they built the other B and N building in the early 2000s. I loved that location and everything about it. The new location sucks. I don’t find anything redeeming about this new store. It’s too bright in the store, tone down the lighting, it’s a book store not a school library. Also the barns and noble secret service security guard walks around the store following me like I’m a theif. Do they really need such aggressive security in a book store? Seriously this dude in a suit with an earpiece following customers around is NOT good for buissness. It’s a book store!! The banks don’t even have security like that! The other location that closed was more convenient with parking in front. This new place has no out in front parking rendering it difficult for disabled customers to park close to location. Looks like all new employees working there too. The “kids” working there look bored to death and are very unhelpful finding anything. I’m sorry to see the demise of the other Richmond Ave location. This location is horrible and I don’t plan on returning again anytime son. The move to the Mall was not a good idea. The location is awful and the new store is not better. It actually sucks.
I love Barnes and Noble. I had a chance to visit the old location before they moved into the Staten Island mall. It was about the same as any other; I always love visiting their stores. However, the move into the mall was a horrible decision. Especially where it is located. You can only enter the store from the outside, which would be fine if the entrance wasn’t so far away from any parking. The closest parking area is also close to the movie theater and restaurants, so there is hardly ever any parking available there. Since the store is not accessible from inside the mall, parking elsewhere and entering from inside is not an option. One of the last times I drove all the way out there, I had to turn back because there was no parking to be found anywhere near the store whatsoever within walking distance of the store entrance. If that’s to become a regular occurance, I’m sorry to say I’ll have to go elsewhere. It’s must too stressful and aggravating to waste gas going there only to have to turn back.
The new Barnes and Noble at the Staten Island Mall its gorgeous. The new Barnes and Noble doesnt have escalators. It has only 1 floor only its very flat. Too bad its very small in this new location. I like the other Barnes and Noble at Union Square better. The other one you take either elevator or taking the escalator to the top floor to browse around as longest you want.
Ok so I went to the barnes and noble on Richmond Avenue. I went in and bought food from Starbucks with my bf. While I was pregnant they kicked me out of store and made me wait in the rain. Be mindful Im 8 weeks pregnant. I said I was they just didnt care. The staff needs improvement in there attitude in they way they treat there customers.i was eati M g the food in the store closer to the doors and I wasnt in the way however I payed for there food they kicked me out for no reason.i asked for tap water in a cup from Starbucks and they never gave it to me after the person said ok. Completely bad first impression..
I remember when Barnes & Noble was thought of as the mean giant destroying independent bookstores. Now Im grateful for any bookstore at all. I still like the cafe at Barnes & Noble and the chance to browse through books while I kill time. It would be great if there were more readings by authors and adult activities on Staten Island.
I love this store and Ill be sad to see it relocate. Its a good sized Barnes & Noble and the in store café is exactly whats needed. Wide range of various categories such as a huge selection of magazines, travel guides, learning materials, non-fiction and fiction. There are a wide range of CDs and vinyls at the back of the store to.
Like most larger B&N locations it has a nice selection of books, magazines, games, movies and vinyl records.Unfortunately this particular location also has possibly the worst mens room in any B&N you have ever been to.Not that one would lounge in a public bathroom but this one I would only want to use in an emergency situation only as it is less inviting than a work site port a potty. Everything is wet, graffiti is scrawled all over the stalls, toilet paper litters the floor which makes you understand why there is so little of it still in the roll for use. Sure this is a product of the animals using the bathroom but a check up to make sure it is at least presentable every few hours shouldnt be too much to ask, just like expecting to have paper towels available to dry hands instead of what I have had to do which is use seat covers. So go for the entertainment needs but maybe you will want to skip on getting refreshments and relaxing in store so that you are not forced to use the truly miserable bathroom facilities.
Very disappointed visiting the new location. From having to park far and cross what drivers think is a parkway with 2 kids to their uninviting, cold, super bright store where you can see everyone and everything. Introverts beware. It feels like a hospital cafeteria and gift shop. The desire to stay, read or meet friends and drink coffee is gone. Theyve ruined it. The appeal is gone too for kids, no story corner etc like upstairs in the old location.
I would usually come here in order to not only enjoy Starbucks but also sitting and relaxing to read. Lately however I cant sit anywhere to read. I was asked to move down to Starbucks and then was also told to move from there as well. Ive never had such issues and its become an annoyance. Youre better off going to panera or a library where they wont rudely tell you to get out.
Nice place if youre looking for a typical book but they lack a lot in quantity of other books. For example, the esoteric section is pathetic! I went the other day looking for a book and I noticed another gentleman stating that the book he wanted was available at the Staten Island Barnes & Noble on the website. Then he came there and even the bookseller herself couldnt find it. He was pissed having travelled from Brooklyn to get the book. Advice to the staff, fill up the shelves and fix that police tape area which looks totally unappealing.Personally, I cant wait for the other place to open by the mall. Im sure theyll be stacked to the hilt and itll be a lot prettier aesthetically.
I must readily concede that the former location far exceeds this new one with respect to atmosphere, but that is not to say that this new location does not retain some semblance of the old atmosphere because it most certainly does.My primary criticism of this particular location would be its somewhat deficient selection compared to most other locations in the NYC Metro area, particularly in the Science Fiction department. Its most unfortunate but most of the time they have what Im looking for.
Good service, wifi , charging ports and wide variety of books you can read for free at the b&n cafe (that also serves starbucks and really good food and pastries :)P.s. they usually give out coupons after you buy something, $4 off a book, $1 off a drink, or buy on get one free cookies.Lastly, a clearace section up to 40% off and you get 10% off mostly everything when you become a member.
I’m really disappointed from my last visit yesterday. There’s a deal going on with buying 2 books, and getting the 3rd one free; however, the book I chose from the table (that also had another copy on said table) was not ringing up in the deal. The person helping me at the register suggested it was placed there accidentally, but I had told him there was another copy there too. He wanted me to step aside in order for someone else to assist me, but after waiting on the long line since it was busy, why did I have to wait any longer? So I left. After getting home and deciding to check on their website, I find out the book is a part of the deal. If the toll to cross over the Bayonne Bridge wasn’t expensive, I would have gone directly to tell them.
The Barnes and Nobles over there its pretty okay not bad its smaller does give you a easy access to find stuff quicker I just think that they need to make sure security does do their rounds and check around the place instead of standing just in the front or at least have one more extra security that roams around because when teenager are in there they dont know how to act sometimes last time I was in there I seen kids messing around with the bathrooms so thats the only thing you have to be careful with
My daughter bought tecme a Kindle a number of years ago for Chtistmas. Since they day I have not put it down. To me its much more comfortable to hold while reading than a book. With a touch of my finger I can turn pages! Now the BEST; Barnes and Nobel have thousands of books that are easy to download and a tremendous amount that are free. All I can say is thank you modern technology.!!!!!!
Definitely not coming back. Walked in with My Dog which the Manager said it was okay. The security guard had it in for me, not sure why. And kicked me out. After I got the Same Manager involved who said it was ok for my Dog to be there the SG Moose(Whatever his name was) he was so nasty and pushy. Never coming here again.
Book stores are going the way of the dinosaur but luckily for Staten Island they have not gone extinct their yet. When you enter you are greeted with a Nook display trying to get you to move to the future but step around the display and embrace your past. Books!! and books galore! I could spend hours just looking around sampling the books, graphic novels, and magazines. They also have a toys and Games section! And if you get hungry they have a Starbucks Cafe inside as well as free WiFi but dont use it to showroom and check Amazon, support your local book store!Plenty of free parking and a super helpful staff.
PERFECT SERVICE AND VERY CLEAN.FOOD IS DELISH AND THE TREATS EVEN BETTER.IT IS A GREAT PLACE TO SHOP FOR MOTHERS DAY GOODIES AND BOOKS.QUIET ENOUGH TO HAVE A RELAXING SHOPPING EXPERIENCE BUT NOT SO QUIET THAT IT FEELS LIKE A TOMB.MY DAUGHTER ORDERED THE CHILI WITH EXTRA CRACKERS AND I HAD THE QUICHE.LOVED IT.GOTTA GO THERE AGAIN REAL SOON.
They are not moving until the mid fall yet the childrens area is dismantled I went there with my grandchildren today they took a book and sat on the stage but it wasnt really fun they wanted to leave I was only able to purchase one book I never gone out of there without at least three or four

2022-06-21Literally book heaven!!! The store is massive and bliss for any book lover. There are thousands of books in every genre. There’s also a convenient Starbucks located inside the store. You can enjoy your book purchases while sitting at tables, enjoying your coffee and pastries. Absolutely in love with this Barnes and Nobel location.

2022-05-13It’s a different layout from when they were in the other place on Richmond Avenue, but frankly, it really has a nice, open feel. And as they are starting to bring more activities/clubs/etc. to the place, it’s really starting to feel like the place it was always destined to be. I do miss the giant, comfy chairs from the old location… But other than that, I couldn’t really ask for improvements.

2022-06-12Store and starbucks is great. Female employees not so much. There was a gentleman who was super helpful helping me find my books tho. But if you are a POC in Staten Islsnd you get rude service and dirty looks. I know the look Felt like I was in Confederate Florida again. Wont be back. The 3 stars is for the man who helped me and B$N being a great store overall. But I did not feel welcomed at this location.

2019-05-31Much easier to find parking for, but Im taking off a star because its smaller than what it used to be. Selection used to be much larger before the move, but everything is mostly there. Theres actually a few tables to work at. Theres still a Starbucks there. There doesnt seem to be a connection to the main mall though, and thats another reason for one less star. There is a very large childrens area in the back right corner.Edit- the first couple of photos are wrong, it only has one story and has since moved. It is definitely not a freestanding structure anymore.

2022-01-09The store is clean and used to be pleasant, there was plenty of place to sit, and the staff used to be very friendly. My kids and I are regular customers and come in regularly and usually spend around $50 or more every time we visit.Unfortunately some of the staff has taken covid as an excuse to start behaving in a discourteous fashion. Jess in particular, who I believe is one of the shift managers, regularly finds some excuse to harass me and my children whether its that we brought outside food (This despite there being at least two additional empty tables in the store, and that we bought both food and books in the store) or some other excuse she finds in order to make our visit unpleasant almost every single time we visit. We used to come almost every week. Now we barely come in once a month, and every single time were at the mall rather than it being a no brainer that we will visit B&N, I ask myself if I want to bother giving this store our business, when one of their employees seems hell-bent on making me regret it on a regular basis.

2022-02-20The best place to buy books. Can browse for hours to see whats new and whats off the main stream in books. I always find something
