Attend the tale of Sweeney Todd! Great show and cast. The meat pies are also excellent. This is an imersive space and the blocking for the play is amazing. I cant say enough about the cast, all of which were fantastic. The night I attended there were several understudies on the roster, and I have trouble imagining that they were not the first choice for these parts. Really great performances by all members especially Mrs. Lovett and Sweeney. All the entertainers had amazing voices. This is definitely worth your time and money.
Went here to see Sweeney Todd and ad a blast. The stage was simply but the use of it was masterful. The almost 3 hours was over in a blink. Id recommend seeing this show while its on. ( As a bonus the meat and veggie pies were great!) I cant wait to see what other productions and events Barrow Street has in store.
I saw the Sweeney Todd play here which was PHENOMENAL and hands down one of the best plays I have ever witnessed. They made good use of this theatre by transforming it into a pie shop. It was very intimate and unique but more space would be useful; I felt a bit uncomfortable in my seat and with the constant need to stretch .
Saw the immersive Sweeney Todd here. This isnt really a show review, but its hard to review the theater without the show, because its whats been running there ;) This is a scrappy off-Broadway venue, and if youre reading this to wonder if you should see Sweeney here, then 100% just buy the tickets now. You wont regret it.
We just finished watching a production of Sweeney Todd. I have seen the original Broadway production years ago and I have seen the movie and this small Off Broadway production is comparable to the original cast. These young actors and actresses are utterly amazing, the staging is unique, and I was simply Blown Away. Many of the Renditions of Sondheim songs brought me to tears go see Sweeney Todd
This is more a review of the showing of Sweeney Todd I saw here. The entire space had been transformed into Mrs. Lovetts pie shop. Most of the seats were at long tables so that you could eat meat pies (chicken only!) before the show and on which the performers would sometimes climb onto. The ambiance of the performance space was excellent, as was the play itself. However, I will say the rest of the building is pretty dilapidated, especially the bathrooms, but thats not why youre there.
I saw Sweeny Todd: The demon barber of fleet street. Interesting, very intimate little venue. Had communal seating in the front (downstairs) that was cafeteria style and bench style seating in the back (upstairs). Not exactly comfortable, because there were no arm rest and everyone has to come out for you to come and go. The show was AMAZING but the venue its self is okay.
The meat pie and mashed were the best part. The show was average. My experience was completely ruined upon entrance as they tried to refuse me entrance b/c I have a service animal. The House Manager was rude, and the Head Manager was even worse. My dog has been to see 78 shows including Hamilton, War Paint, Anastasia, Hello Dolly, In the Heights, Six Degrees of Separation and many many more. I have never been asked for ID after declaring her a service animal. By city ordinance once she is declared verbally any business is required to permit access and they are absolutely NOT allowed to ask for ANY documentation. The Head Manager tried to tell me it was a private entity and they had every right. When you look up the business license, it indicates that it is a public establishment. Shame shame on you for discriminating against people with a disability. They completely ruined this show for me.
A no-frills off-Broadway house: theres nothing fancy about this venue, its just a functional spot to showcase some real theater. The staff is very friendly and helpful. My only reservation about this place is that if youre in the balcony, it appears the only way to get out is walking in front of the stage-- so if youre seeing a long show, be sure to stop off at the restrooms before the curtain rises!
Saw The Effect which was an amazing show. Seems like some of the greatest off Broadway shows make it here and if you hunt, you can find discount tix online! Building is old school and someone needs to update the slideshow on their lobby TV screen to not look like a school iMovie project, but part of the village charm I suppose. But I care most about what show Im seeing rather than the building. If they are hosting mind blowing shows, 5 stars for me.
A small theater on first floor of a community house in Greenwich Village, convenient to the 7th and 8th Avenue subways, Excellent viewing, excellent staff, cheap tickets often available to Theater Development Fund members. Bathrooms are inconvenient, but thats the only black mark. Saw The Flick there recently -- Pulitzer Prize winning play, well staged, well acted.
They claim to be accessible, but (a) the ramp up their main steps takes 5-10 minutes to set up and (b) the ramp is extremely steep and cannot be navigated by a power chair or a manual chair user who isnt on the Olympic team. The theatre itself is okay if you dont use a chair.
A great experience watching the work of Swenney Todd. The work is highly recommended: they have an incredible performance and, although it is not a Broadway production, it is more than enough to enjoy good theater. I suggest taking the dinner experience where the Pay is included. I had the meat pie, soooo delicious.

2019-03-16Pie and mash served and a terrific show. Interactive theater production, the actors come out into the audience and upon the tables .Wonderful company of actors led by the talented but gracious Thom Sesma playing Sweeney Todd. He chatted with us after the show and took a selfie with my wife, not scary at all in real life but terrifying in the show. We really wish the production was ongoing as wed like to return and bring the family, it was that good.

2018-08-27An incredibly intimate space to see a show. This whole place held about 100 people for Sweeney Todd, and the actors intermingled throughout the show. I felt like I was right there with them in the story and had a great time. Sat in the front row of the balcony and had a great view of everything. I hope to see more shows here in the future.

2018-01-31Went for the showing of Sweeney Todd. It was terrific. Small, intimate setting lets the cast really get up close and personal you into the story. If you go, opt for the package that includes the meal beforehand. The meat pies and mash were genuinely quite good. I suspect there is some bakery nearby that must making them for the shows.they also had a delicious but difficult to identify seasoning to them which only adds to the level of immersion the environment provides.

2018-05-20Attended the Tale of Sweeney Todd & LOVED every second of the show. My first immersion show and it was fantastic. Discussions in progress for a return trip before August. Scenery & stage were captive, as well as the choreography. You won’t regret taking in this performance, at this venue.

2018-07-09We thoroughly enjoyed the immersive experience of seeing Sweeney Todd at the Barrow Street Theater. (The music overwhelmed the actors a bit, but it was still a fun production and the cast was spectacular. The set was amazing, too.) The theater is easy to find, central to many restaurants, and perfectly sized to feel intimate without being too small.

2018-06-24The limited view seating is VERY limited. We loved the show, but would only sit downstairs in the future.
