Beach Cafe in other cities:
I have always wanted to try this place, the menu looks good so I decided to come in the weekend to try it out. I have to say the atmosphere is really nice, the inside and outside seat areas have a nice vibe to them. The service was great as well, we were attended to immediately and helped along the way. But the most important thing, the food, is mediocre at best. I ordered the beach Cafe burger and it was the driest most bland burger I have ever had. In general, I would say its a nice place to hangout but not expect really good food.
We ordered Stella and Blue point lager draft beers, Zucchini Fritti and Linguini with White Clam Sauce. The drinks were average. I did not like the taste of Stella much. Zucchini Fritti were a bit oily but very tasty. The best was the Linguini. The clams were well cooked and the Linguini had a fine taste of clam sauce. And this place has a good service too. Doing well during COVID-19, they have tables setup outside the restaurant and well distant from each other.
What a fun place to go for brunch/lunch! They have a great brunch menu that includes 3...yes 3! DRINKS. The Bloody Mary is especially yummy and a bit on the spicy side. Just right! You can also switch to their other brunch menu offerings such as a screwdriver or mimosa. I ordered the Eggs Benedict. The eggs were cooked perfectly. The wines were not too runny but the yolk was a smooth. It wasnt drowned in Hollandaise Sauce either, like other restaurants. Hubby had the Scrambled Eggs and Smokes Salmon which he said was quite good. Our friend had the Nicoise Salad. Its her favorite here and she was looking forward to our meeting for awhile! The service is top notch and friendly. We didnt have any problems and our order and drinks came out fast. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be coming back!
This was the perfect place to stop for an impromptu Sunday brunch while strolling around NYC. It had indoor and outdoor seating. The staff was really nice. It was busy but not overly crowded. We didn’t need a reservation and we didn’t have to wait. They had a nice drink and brunch special on the menu and it wasn’t super loud. The indoor seating was spacious, the decor was nice and the service was prompt with great food.
Stopped in here for a late lunch a couple weeks ago on a very hot and humid day and had a very pleasant experience.I came with a family member & they ordered a simple breakfast plate with eggs and toast & I ordered the Cobb Salad. The food came extremely fast & at first we were skeptical as to if it would be edible and good but it turned out to meet beyond out expectations. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant overall has a very nice and uniqe interior. If you are looking for a late or light lunch spot on the Upper East Side, I definetely reccomend Beach Cafe.
The Wages and Fair Standards Act prohibits employers, managers, and supervisors from withholding tips received by the workers they oversee. The owner takes the tips of employees to pay managers, among other things. Servers, hostess and bartenders do not receive all their tips. This is against the law.
I just walked out of the place first of all i walked in with my family my husband myself and my 2 kids. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by the hostess as soon as we sat down after we had taken off jackets and got comfortable my husband was asked by the hostess to remove his HAT!!!! HELLO LOOK AT THE PIC ABOUT THE PLACE IS NOT A FANCY PLACE IS CASUAL...... the worst part was that the owner was standing 5 feet away from us and instead of telling us himself he sent the poor girl.... the worst ever i been to better places... i just felt so discriminated it wasnt even like we are wearing rags!!!!
Good service, mediocre food, giant picture of Roger Stone. Bizarre to have a dress code in such a casual place. Then I read a New York Magazine article about how this place is a right wing hangout. Make of that what you will but it explains the Roger Stone pic! Also when we were here we witnessed a server yelling at what I can only assume was a regular barfly type patron. The guy was drunk and about to pass out and the server cursed at them to leave. Amusing I guess but might not be seen as great customer service by some. I just felt bad for the server having to deal with it.
The waiter was nice because they werent rude in the least but they didnt pay attention to our table in the least. Had to ask for a plate 3 times and still never got it. Never checked on us, chicken tender were horrible kids didnt like them then I tasted them and were bad. I ordered nacho fries and was a plate of mush.. was just all pretty disappointing.
PRO TIP: You can’t split the check with a friend! It has to be one credit card. No exceptions.Great neighborhood brunch spot, and I love they serve brunch till 4pm. (They even accommodated me on a French roast after that one time.) They’ve done some ingenious post-pandemic decorating and made the block a really vibrant and eye-catching with their beach blue theme.Food is fresh and service is quick. They don’t have a cappuccino or espresso machine which surprised me a lot for a brunch place!
The real gem of this place is the staff. The brunch deal is good in terms of price. Three drinks and your meal is only $25 which is a deal in NYC.The food is good but not great. Its made with low quality ingredients and the portions are small. I ordered eggs Benedict and was disappointed that the hollandaise sauce was barley there. The staff however made our drinks on the strong side and didnt up charge us when we asked for straight prosecco without any juice. There were a few brunch drink options that could be mixed and matched so no one was locked into three orders of the same drink like other places.Staff was friendly, attentive, hard working and had personalities that made us laugh.Outdoor seating is a plus and they have life guard chairs that are cute for taking posed photos on. The people watching was amazing as it has a good Manhattan location.
2+ (the plus bc Im on my 2nd Bellini and feeling nice). Brunch. The poor stars is for the service. Airhead of a hostess-showed me to my table and forgot about me, ie no menu till I went up asked for it. The owner(presumably) walked me back to my table and took my drink order, and forgot about me. Finally the waiter came with a mimosa, not Bellini ordered, and it took some time to rectify. Finally he came back for my order. Eggs Benedict ($15, over-poached,ok for me but if youre super picky abt eggs you are probably not happy anywhere)- quite generous with the ham, side of tater tots (beach?), mixed greens. Nice and hot so the food runner didnt dilly dally. Slow service for the 2nd Bellini. 3rd Bellini, another wait quelle surprise. If you get the brunch special you get an entree and 3 drinks for $20. Yes, please. I like the deal, I dont like the service (they were busy, but this is where they should shine- handle the busy-ness!), respectable eggs, good value. Will I return? Meh, likely, although the UES has so many places to choose, not sure how anxious Id be to return for bad, friendly service.
Service was friendly enough but amateur. Burger was decent but egg on top was practically raw. Sent it back and it returned super well done, as if it really didn’t matter. Fries were all stuck together, cheap like a bad sports bar’s fries. This spot looks nice from the outside but it’s basically just a bad diner.
The new outside seating areas are lovely and comfortable. The lobster roll is the best Ive had outside of waterside places in Bar Harbor, Maine. The roll is filled with lobster meat and no fillers. The hamburgers are probably the best on the UES--juicy without being greasy. Theyve weathered a very tough year and have come through.
This establishment overcharges for NYS Sales Tax (NYS sales tax is 8.875%).To preface, I am in the restaurant industry myself, and have been managing for upwards of 10 years at a reputable restaurant group. My wife and I dined here for brunch today (10/31) and when the bill came ($55 subtotal), I saw that the tax was rounded up ($5 instead of the accurate $4.88).When I approached the restaurant about it, I was directed to the Owner, who became very defensive. He made it about the $0.12 that I couldnt afford, moreso than me being concerned about his business practices and every table that he Rounds up on/profits from the additional sales tax.It is a shame, as the food here is good (especially the brunch special). My goal here is to let people know about this shady business practice, and you can choose for yourself whether this practice matters to you or not, but I myself will not be going back.See attached for picture of my receipt detailing this claim.
For all the 5 star reviews, am I missing something? We went to the Beach Cafe for lunch and I just don’t get it... is it a cafe? Is it a restaurant? The menu is all over the place... any glass of wine costs more than most of the meals. The staff was great but the food was so blah, I feel like I could have made it at home, and I don’t cook! Overall? It was fine but not worth going back
Very Poor service from the beginning. As I walked into the restaurant, which was not full, no one greeted me for about 5 minutes, I just stood at the door waiting for a table. Secondly, our food order was very wrong, all the orders were mixed up and we only ordered two burgers. Nor did they offer any real resolution and we were in a rush because we had to return to work.
I ordered delivery dinner tonight from Beach Cafe and was totally surprised to find a roll of toilet paper and latex gloves also inside the bag. The food was delicious, the delivery very fast and the customer service outstanding. How thoughtful that they thought of their customers during this difficult time. Thank you so much Beach Cafe. Ill certainly be back!
Cute old fashioned Upper East restaurant with a great $19.95 weekend brunch deal which includes an entree and three drinks that bumps this up from three to four stars. Food is decent and chilled atmosphere. The only issue here is service. The manager is quite picky about who he will allow to eat at his restaurant and the servers are a little slow on the uptake. If you can put up with that I’d certainly recommend this place for brunch.
We accidentally stumbled to this place during the morning. Everything else was closed or did not have a shaded table outside. So this place had two things going for it1. It had great seating.2. The service was good, as expected. However, we browsed their menu and were shocked at the awful policies in place -If you want to share a plate you will need to pay $5 extra and if you go for the brunch you may not share your drinks at the table. This to me right out of the box screamed that the place does not place the experience at their establishment front and center. Someone should really tell the place that happy customers will actually spend more...Still, the place being rather packed (and due to lack of alternatives) I figured that the food would for sure make up for the kindergarten rules.Oh my was I wrong! We took the simplest option on the menu - avocado toast with poached eggs with a side of potatoes.I can’t state these claims as facts as I haven’t visited the kitchen, but this is how it tasted -The “bread” at the bottom of the eggs reminded me of the lowest grade biscuit you could buy at the supermarket. Lacked any air inside or a crunch of a toast. The potatoes were in room temperature and felt like they sat in their oil from yesterday. The sauce on top, which I presume was supposed to be hollandaise sauce, was so yellow, like cheddar cheese instead of a regular white-yellow cream, which made it feel and taste industrial.I really hoped to have a good experience in this cafe, but unfortunately I found myself in an overpriced, underwhelming experience which seems to enjoy its location and a clientele that is willing to be policed by obsurd rules.I hope other people have a good time there but I cannot recommend this place in any way.
We went for a show and the music was fantastic! The performance is the only reason for giving the second star. The issue was that my dining partner had to kill a cockroach not once, but twice that crawled onto our table! We informed the waitress before we left as we didnt want to disrupt the performance and she too was horrified.
Our waiter, Adam, was exceptionally personable and friendly. He stood out as one of the best waiters weve ever had, no exaggeration. Our burgers were delicious. All of our friends, in the neighborhood, have been coming here forever. The prices are reasonable. It is a pleasure to sit in the outdoor cafe on a starlit summer evening. Thanks for a nice evening. :)
Ive been to the Beach Café 3 times for the amazing Brunch Specials and have had a wonderful experience each time. The staff, from the owner, to the hostess, to the waiters have all been gracious, courteous and provided great service. They truly make you feel welcomed. The food has been consistently delicious--all the dishes Ive tried have been so delectable. I cant wait to go back!
For all the places Ive reviewed and had the pleasure of consuming food at... Beach cafe simple does not meet any sort of standards. Neighborhood diners deserve better. Better management and someone who truly cares about the restuarant industry. Sincerely, do not dine here and eat at home. Thats fresh. Servers lack professionalism and finesse
I was looking forward to a nice summer afternoon lunch with a friend, only to be abruptly told by wait staff that there was a “dress code” policy for lunch. Seeing that it was the middle of the day, scorching hot weather and outside dining, I thought this must be an inside joke. When pressed for accuracy, I was abruptly told that no summer attire (I was wearing shorts and a nice, trendy tank top) was allowed for dining. I glanced over and saw several female customers wearing summer-appropriate wear, including sleeveless tank tops (at a venue called BEACH CAFE!!! The irony!). When I pointed that out, I was told that it was different for female customers. To which I responded, “am I experiencing male discrimination?”. Needless to say, I was not welcome nor accommodated due to their unannounced, unpublished “dress code” and took my lunch business elsewhere. You’d think that given the current economic climate and the physical heat/outdoor dining, this “policy” would not be in place. Oh well, I won’t be going back to this establishment ever again!
This was our local place when we lived in New York 31 years ago. It is still there. It has gone a touch further upscale but the owner remembered us. Thats class. The food is good, the staff, especially the head waiter, were all friendly and professional. I am looking forward to seeing the coming caberet next year.
😡Even though my boyfriend doesn’t like their food, I used to get takeout from here all the time, but no more. Now. Get this! It’s called Beach Cafe. Half of the tables, because of Covid, are outside and literally in the street, amongst fumes from cars and the smell of tar. Today it’s 88 degrees outside, feels like 96. Humid. My friend and i show up to eat at one of their outside tables in the middle of this awful heat to support a local restaurant. Supporting local in this time is important. But. They refused to seat us because my friend is in a tank top! We pointed out a woman seating who was wearing a tank top. They said that they could offer my friend a shirt to wear. Unbelievable. The heat. The street seating. ITS CALLED BEACH CAFE!!!! But no beach attire at beach cafe. No they want us in a full shirt in order to support their business while we risk our lives dining out in the middle of the pandemic. Don’t think restaurants are closing because of covid, it’s unreasonable and just absolutely bad customer service.
An amazing and generous owner providing for healthcare workers at nearby hospitals during challenging times! Hospital employees were provided with burgers and fries that were made to perfection. Please help to support a business that is doing good for others! I will be back with friends to celebrate good times ahead with a nice glass of Vino!
Very Bad Service. The waiters are a bunch of kids running the place and are not professional servers. The uniform on the wait staff was not clean (yes, we saw stains on their pants, white shirt that turn into grey color, unpolished shoes and the black color approns). We waited for over 50 minutes for a simple meal and finally got the lousy dish served in a plate that was not clean at all( they serve the food in the so called white plates that does not look at all white plate and looks more cream color bc the dishes are not washed well and just dipped in some luke water and you can still see the build up of grease film around the edges of the plates) I had to return back the food to the kitchen refusing to eat in a dirty plate. I demonstrated to the server that the plate is not clean and run my fingers over the edges of the plate and my fingers were stained with cold grease. The owner was sitting next to us busy in his laptop and then got up and grabbed a yellow color Power Drill machine from under the Piano and stood in the middle of entrance door arguing with his wait staff and the guests could hear him. The owner kept moving around boxes right in the middle of the restaurant as if there is moving/ delivery going on. Who needs that kind of a environment? The desert plate had cracks in it, limited boring food menu, small food portion, coffee was cold and cheap and prices are high. The worst part as soon we got home, we all got sick with some type of food poison. No Wonder!Beach Cafe needs to clean up its act and hire some professional servers, buy new plates and clean up the dust all over the restaurant including on top of the light fixtures. We will not go there again and stay away from this run down place with poor management.
Just ok. Got avacado toast which was pretty good, but a very small portion, 1 piece of toast for 12$ was a little steep, the spring rolls where ok but again very expensive and I got 5 tiny spring rolls, got what I thought was an order of sliders on happy hour for $8 and it was 1 single slider that was super dry and served on a mini bagel bun, not good, overall wasnt a good experience. Service was just ok also
In from out of town to move my daughter into Manhattan from Ft. Lauderdale. What a great find in this place.Food was excellent and staff was great. They started doing an entertainment show on weekends so we stayed and paid the entertainment charge,It was a very entertaining show and a unique experience. Will definitely go back when I visit my daughter.Good job Beach Cafe!
Margaritas were great, discrimination was less impressive. My wife and I (a lesbian couple), wearing masks (per COVID-19) ordered drinks and an app to-go. Sitting outside the bar, waiting for our food and socially distanced, we were told we couldnt hang out there despite at least five other pairs of heteros just hangin.I was also wearing a no justice no peace shirt, not sure if the place is homophobic, racist, or both.Sad we gave a local joint our money during this time over more inclusive spots.
Terrible food in taste and quality, such a disappointment since it could have been better managed as a veteran neighborhood spot. It feels like both the kitchen and wait staff teams no longer care about the business and it reflects in the food and service quality unfortunately.
My family and I had the worst restaurant experience on the upper east side, this is 40+ plus years of eating all over our neighborhood. 1. Manager put 5 of us on a small table for 2-3 and insisted it would be fine, it wasnt, in fact I ended up supporting my main dish while I ate.. 2.The waiter, who looked shell shocked was unwilling to ask the chef for any substitution or change to any of the items, fearing he wasnt in a mood for it, asked for plain pasta, cannot do. 3. We were all disappointed with our meals as were the folks next to us, steamed veggies were completely without taste and risotto was terrible (table next to us returned it) 4. The staff looked completely overwhelmed and were bickering at each other constantly. I would have rather eaten anywhere else and should have. AVOID.
Lets just cut to the chase : This place is a joke.Has an interior décor that borders on some type of TGI Fridays nightmare - and whats with the pretentious/snobbish No Baseball Caps policy ??The food is beyond mediocre. My God, the tasteless undersized hamburger was actually brownish/beige with a touch of grey - it literally looked like a small can of pet food that was turned upside down and dumped out whole. The raw onion, lettuce and tomato side fixins were a combination of dry and soggy. I was so embarrassed for the rest of my party who voiced similar disappointments about their own menu selections.Ordering a beer was no better - they charge “pint” prices for an 8oz glass. Ripoff. To the owners: Should you ever decide to venture out to the East End, take a cue from, say ..The Corner Bar in Sag Harbor - friendly, authentic, great food, and no BS Cant Wear a Baseball Hat policy. They are the authentic casual real deal.Frankly, this place would be more at home in some anonymous suburban strip mall, where it truly belongs. Will not make the mistake of stepping into this establishment ever again. There are much, much better Upper Eastside choices within a stones throw. In short, AVOID.
This is where I want to be on Saturday mornings, mimosa in one hand, warm homemade muffins in the other. I love the brunch prix fix menu $25 for 4 drinks and eggs benedict (or your choice of other options that Ive never tried). Ive never had to wait, even at peak dining times and, while the service waiting for the check can be slow, my glass has never been left empty on the table. The atmosphere almost has a lounge feeling to it as it is never very bright on the inside and the bar is a heavy, dark-finished wood, though the decorations all have a beachy-theme.I definitely recommend sitting inside as the table outside are on a slant and can make enjoying the meal very difficult when everyone has to constantly hold their plates and drinks so they dont go tumbling.I want to try their weekly happy hour $1 oysters and will update the review after I have. The restaurant is Beach Cafe ... how bad could they be?
I came in there for a quick lunch with my 22 month old baby, the host was first giving me a hard time about the stroller, mind you the place was not even full. Anyhow, I told him i completely understand and folded the stroller. After we were seated, my son started to have a tantrum and was crying a little loud, to which the host felt the need to come over and ask me to go outside until he came down. I was appalled, i really wanted to leave, cuz the service from HIM was so rude, but I had already placed my order. Its so stupid though, this place is not a 5 star restaurant where people are dressed to the nines to go eat there. It was almost empty, i think there were more people in the bar than actually eating. My son crying was not the most annoying sound in there, theres construction going on outside, plus people talking very loud. Definitely never going back and wouldnt recommend anyone to go there.
After hearing about this place from the hospital near by my family and I decided to have lunch there. There was 4 adults and my one year old son in a stroller. It was raining out by the time we got there and asked for a table outside where others were seated. We were told the tables were all wet, which they werent, but asked to sit inside. The waiter told us they dont allow strollers inside so again we asked why we couldnt have the table outside that was dry and in the corner. He was so nasty and rude to us and said no we dont do strollers and waved us off. We definitely wont recommend anyone coming here and made sure we told the staff at the hospital about our experience so that others with children especially wont go there. If they dont like children maybe they should have a sign up that says that.
I decided to have lunch at this place with my sister and 6 month old baby, since they had outside seating and it was beautiful weather out! There was no one outside, completely empty, so I went into to inform the wait staff that I wanted to sit outside and get menus. A guy approached me and I informed him I needed a table outside for two (2) and a baby. He looked at me confused and told me that I had to wait a moment so he could confirm. He asked for whom I assumed was the manager or owner to speak with me; this guy had the nerve to inform me that they do not allow strollers inside (which I completely understand), but that they also do not allow strollers in the outside seating area. Now I could understand if space was limited outside or if it were busy, but THERE WAS NO ONE SEATED OUTSIDE! I think this is completely ridiculous, they should basically say NO BABIES/CHILDREN ALLOWED. I will never give this place my money, period.
Food is just meh for the prices. Service was not good. The menu said Grilled Cheese and thankfully the server told me it came with bacon so I could say no, thank you. However he failed to mention it also came with a tomato to which I also would have said no, thank you. My friend ordered a seltzer without being told it was a $6 pellegrino. Little things like that would have really made a difference. Also no one came back once to check on us or to refill my water glass, which was the only beverage I had. If either the food or service had been good, perhaps Id give them another shot. But both were just meh giving me no reason to return.
The Beach needs some serious maintenance. Menu choices are circa 1980, staff is pleasant but distracted, ambiance is stale, food is bland and unimaginative. There is no reason to deep fry calamari on a plate of linguini unless its tasteless ... why not use fresh calamari and grill it?

2022-06-24Absolutely delicious salmon! Served on a bed of sautéed broccoli. I 100% cleaned my plate. 😋Followed up with a chocolate brownie topped with a scoop of ice cream. The outer dining area is nice but in a louder area of the UES. I might choose to eat inside next time for a more traditional and quieter dining experience.Service was quick but not very attentive. I had to ask for the dessert options after my plate was taken. Food was superb, will definitely find myself here again. If you have a NY Presbyterian VIP card, you get 10% off!

2022-08-24Weve been to The Beach a few times over the years whenever weve visited NYC and it never disappoints. This trip was particularly good - we had a cobb salad, chicken Milanese, spaghetti Bolognese and baked shells bechemel and they were all excellent. The restaurant has a lovely community feel.

2022-03-17My hubby and I go to this place very often as it is in our neighborhood. They offer nice menu and we love the tuna salad and the drink prepared by Chris, our favorite bartender. Chris s margarita is fabulous, one of the best ever in this city and he is very friendly and fun to be around. The place is cozy and pleasant with nice people.Well recommended !!

2021-01-16Beach cafe is a good neighborhood brunch spot. Their french toast was on point. I had been craving a sweet brunch all week so this was a perfect fix for me.Their brunch also allows for three cocktails. Basic brunch cocktails - no complaints.Their outdoor space have heaters but are on the side of the building so could be cold for those sitting closer to the road. We went on a rather warm winter day, but embrace for the cold if you are visiting on a cold winter day.Amazing service!

2022-06-04Wonderful beach-themed casual restaurant located within walking distance on the north end of the major hospitals and research centers on Cancer Corner (Weill Cornell, New York Hospital, Hospital for Special Surgery, MSKCC, Rockefeller University). I had a latte and that some fried zucchini spirals which were tasty. Service was attentive. I would return.

So we go out and at this time nobody going seat on that table outside he said woul be occupied. Im feel bad and want to everyone knows how clients with baby will be treated being there.

2022-06-26The staff and food are amazing. They have outdoor seating, inside seating, and bar seating. Wish there was a renovation but overall will be back.
