What a lovely little place!! Everything was very clean, welcoming, and comfortable. Staff were kind and it was perfect to walk to all the downtown bars and restaurants. Continental breakfast is included-- light but tasty. The bed was a bit high but it was very comfy. Good water pressure and plenty of hot water. Overall it was simply perfect. We will certainly return
What a great place that is like a second home. The furnishings, decorating and service is fantastic!!!! very accommodating and locally owned. Extremely clean and you can see that a lot of pride and thought went into everything in this small quaint hotel. I stayed there for 8 days while my son was in the Oswego hospital across the street. Not only were ALL staff accommodating, they were extremely professional and friendly. Julie, the manager is a great host and i just cant say enough good things about this place. They also have a beautiful small banquet room they rent out. Breakfast is free everyday and there are so may options, NO there are no eggs, pancakes or waffles, but they offer so many other options for breakfast. Coffee, tea and hot cocoa served 24/7 in their great room. I felt completely at home in this place. This hotel is more like an Inn rather than hotel. Also, it is very close to everything in town. you can walk to all the restaurants, bars, shops nd hospital from the hotel. Affordable, clean, friendly, warm-quaint atmosphere, manager lives on property. I stayed in room 7 and 8, my parents were in room 9. All rooms were very nice.
I was in the area for work and was pointed here by a co-worker. I was very happy with my stay. I was warmly welcomed, my room was one of the cleanest hotel rooms Ive ever been in, and the wealth of local knowledge kept me eating very well. I could not recommend the beacon enough. Sure its short on some amenities like a gym or a pool, but honestly most people wont use then when theyre available anyway.I was warned by the staff that they fill up quickly when theres activities in town, so plan in advance of you can.
I stayed at the Beacon over the weekend for a wedding and it was one of the best hotel stays I have ever had. The staff was amazing and available for anything we needed, the rooms were spotless and they accommodations for prep the morning of were amazing. Easily top 3 hotel stays in my life, I recommend the Beacon to anyone staying in the Oswego area!
Had a lovely one night stay here, very friendly and helpful staff. Lovely rooms, everything was immaculately clean. The only thing I would have liked more was to stay a couple more nights. I would highly recommend the beacon hotel to anyone who needs a room in our little city of Oswego.
3rd time staying here. Very clean rooms, small, but there is a large sitting area in the hotel if you want to do to more than sleep and shower. Very convenient to shops and close to SUNY Oswego. Staff are friendly! Highly recommend if you are staying in Oswego. Maybe not great for small or high energy children.
This place was gorgeous. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. The location was awesome as you could walk down what looks like the towns main street and visit lots of different restaurants and shops. It had a spacious and well-kept parking lot. There was an array of breakfast treats available in the mornings. It was very, very clean and beautifully kept. The room we had was extremely small but it was just beautiful. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it.
My wife and I stayed last weekend. When I return to the area, theres no doubt Ill be staying here again. Super clean! We had a small, but very nice, room. Looked recently renovated. Mattress was really firm. Pretty convenient to walk to the small downtown area, yet far enough away from the strip malls and traffic. A gas station/convenience store is just a quick walk up the block if you need something. If it was a more luxurious pillow top mattress and if they had lounge operating in the evening with simple food and drink, theyd get 5 stars from me.
This is a really cute hotel in a historic building right on the main drag in Oswego. It is in great proximity to the downtown area and a short drive to the college campus. The rooms are small, but clean with private bathrooms and very high ceilings. They have free on site parking as well as free wifi and a complimentary continental breakfast (yogurt, muffins, oatmeal, fruit). Overall this was a great little place for the price. The only complaint my traveling companions and I had was that the beds were so uncomfortably stiff. They had no give to them whatsoever and this made for a rough nights sleep. In the downstairs lounge they have many very comfortable chairs, so that was a nice place to watch TV and relax, but the room was not conducive to this at all.
I have stayed at this boutique hotel (the best in Oswego/Syracuse) on several occasions over the past 6 years. The prices for the rooms are extremely reasonable and they are very clean. Each room has its own character which adds to the overall charm of the hotel and a decent breakfast is included in the price. The staff is very helpful and can give you great tips on where to dine and what to see.
My wife and I stayed overnight at the Beacon on a recent trip to Oswego because I was searching for an alternative to the usual chain hotels which can often be hit-or-miss in terms of quality and service. The Beacon looked really nice and homey on the website, and it did not disappoint. A former Knights of Columbus building, the rooms have very high ceilings (like, 14 feet), are nicely appointed, and obviously newly renovated, while keeping their quaint feel. I have to agree with another reviewer--it was like staying at a friends house. The staff was very welcoming and thoughtful (bringing up to our room a pair of wine glasses & corkscrew for a bottle of wine we bought), with suggestions of where to dine and what to do around Oswego. The room & bathroom were very neat and clean with plenty of towels, etc. The hotel has a very large lounge area which was nice, as well as dedicated off-street parking. It is literally within walking distance of some good restaurants down on W. 2nd street (the Red Sun is highly recommended). I would stay again. My only suggestion for improvement would be for the Beacon to consider installing area rugs over the beautiful hardwood floors in the rooms; a person in the next room--who we assumed was a woman--kept us awake in the evening by striding around her room with her shoes clacking loudly on the wood floors, making us wonder who let the horse out of the barn. We guessed she was preparing to go out for the evening, or whatever. Otherwise our stay at the Beacon was really nice and we would definitely stay again! Many thanks to the manager, Julia, for being so friendly and welcoming!
The manager at the hotel Julie was very rude to my family and the bridal party we had there. My sister had paid $200.00 for their very best room at the hotel and we were rushed right out of there. The Hotel manager treated us like we were scum, and shut doors on us and locked them so we had to walk around the whole outside of the hotel and come back in. The manager also charged her an extra $50.00 for trashing the room when the room was cleaned by the photographer and also charged for Dirt towels. The Manager also kept knocking on the door multiple times and kept reminding us to leave, I dont know about you but That is not good customer service!! This is the most disappointing hotel I have ever been to... We will never recommend The Beacon and We will never return!!
The Beacon Hotel is by far the best HOTEL in Oswego! This hotel Smokes all the other Hotels/motels in a 50 mile radius. The beacon is extremely clean! That is what is most important to me. Excellent Service when needed. It truly doesnt even feel like your in a hotel, It feels as if Im staying in a Friends house. If in Oswego I would check it out, I can assure you, you will not regret it! The prices are very fair for what you get! Not many rooms so you must book early, I have already booked for my sons graduation from Oswego University. I wouldnt stay any where else!
I did not book here! The woman who answered the phone was rude and snobbish so instead of booking I hung up and booked elsewhere. Its a shame because it looked lovely from the photos but I cant imagine giving my money to an establishment that employs such rude people.

2022-01-04Staff was super friendly, I forgot to iron my dress shirt prior to leaving home and they were able to provide one for me. Rooms are very nice! Hotel is very secure, nice and quiet.Very close to downtown and was able to walk there in a few short minutes.Continental Breakfast had many options to choose from. Wifi was excellent which helped with last minute preparations I had to do. Lounge area has many places to sit, a nice electric fireplace, books to read, and a Large TV easy to see from anywhere in the lounge.I am already planning another stay here for leisure in one of their upgraded rooms.Highly Recommended!

2022-06-17We only had one night in Oswego, but Im glad we spent it here. The room was clean and comfortable. The desk clerk was friendly and suggested several possible nearby restaurants for what amounted to a late supper. The hotel is within walking distance to the downtown. If we had more time for exploring, Im sure we wouldve taken advantage of that. It was nice to stay at a locally owned hotel for a change.

2022-01-18Basically from the moment we arrived We were met at the door and given TOTAL VIP Treatment. Including but not limited to dinner reservations made in advance and a complimentary bottle of champagne due to a very minor inconvenience.. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

2021-11-15This was my first and LAST stay at the Beacon Hotel. Being that COVID-19 has had a devastating impact on small businesses as well as the hospitality industry, I decided to choose this family-owned hotel compared to its local “brand name” competitors. Don’t get me wrong, the hotel itself was clean and comfortable. But WOW does poor service leave a bad taste in your mouth. The website states “late check-out is available upon request”… but DO NOT bother requesting. Because as the manager and other front desk agent said and I quote “absolutely no exceptions”. Being that check out is at 10AM, an hour earlier compared to the other hotels in the area, I didn’t think this would be this much of an issue. However, the amount of attitude and insolence that was received upon asking this question was downright uncalled for. I nicely asked and received a no. Knowing that nothing is for free in life, I even offered to pay a fee or a half-days-rate as I felt that would be fair… but was given a snippy “no” and essentially scolded.Having been educated and having years of experience in hospitality, I was utterly disgusted and ashamed by the treatment from the staff. I visit Oswego, NY frequently, as well as several friends. I’ll be sure to make them aware of how they will be condescendingly treated upon choosing this establishment.

2021-10-31I would highly recommend this hotel, I appreciate the personal care that a place like this has over a hotel chain. Our family of 4 found it very comfortable; the breakfast was actually real food thoughtfully laid out in a spacious lounge area. The quiet, well appointed rooms were super clean and nicely decorated; loved the fridge and microwave!! Very friendly staff that obviously care about the experience their guests have. Walking distance to restaurants, bookstore, the river- great job!

2020-11-15This boutique hotel is wonderful. Exceptionally clean. Very comfortable. The staff are so accommodating. We stay here every time we visit our grandson. Quiet and restful. And the coffee is delicious too. Continental style breakfast. You will not be disappointed .

2021-04-05This will be our third stay at the Beacon. Last year were hesitant to book anywhere due to covid, and when I emailed about their policies I was given a personal phone call. The hotel exceeded our safety concerns and we even booked a second night before we had even slept! We just booked again this year. I am so happy we found this hotel. We fish lake Ontario several times a year and finding a convenient, clean and accommodating place to stay has only made our trips better.
