Great place for vintage clothes. Ive been shopping at various beacons locations and online for years and have never been disappointed. Great selection, interesting pieces, and competitive pricing. Would be a 5 star but Im not a fan of the store credit only return policy for online purchases Id rather have a refund option as well.
Dont sell here, waste of time. Better off taking your clothes else where or sell online. According to the buyer there are looking for more vintage type clothing to sell but I highly doubt that based off the selection that I seen in store. Very old fashion -senior citizen type of clothing, nothing in style. Also the staff is passive -aggressive, so customer service needs work.
This is one of my favorite Beacons. The buying, selection and organization of this store has always been amazing. Even improved in the past year. Staff are super helpful and clear about process. The amount of designer merchandise is plentiful, by far the most Ive seen. If you only participate in the selling process for cash, you may be missing the point of this resale model. Shopping the racks is essential to understanding the price points and selling process. I have never left without a bag of new with tags designer pieces that average $30-$50. Fashion addicts beware! Each visit I learn a new label or witness a vintage one of a kind beauty. This shop is a destination spot, neighborhood is equally exciting and shopable for small businesses. Enjoy!
Its a used/secondhand clothing store catered to the new clientele (and renters) in the neighborhood. Dont look to sell your clothes here, someone will simply look over it and say theres nothing we can buy from here without really assessing anything.Having security over there is overkill, nothing says “we can’t trust the people in this neighborhood” more than that.. you would think you’re walking into Macy’s.
Staff can be super rude, even worse than most thrift stores when looking through your sell pile which is saying a lot. Make snide remarks about “fast fashion” while searching info on the tags in their system because they don’t actually know what they’re looking at 85% of the time. Anything I’ve sold them was because I felt pressured after they’d made me feel embarrassed about most of the perfectly normal things I showed them
I went for the first time yesterday during my visit to NYC, and I was impressed. Theres a great selection in terms of size, color, and price. Things are well organized (by color and type) and staff was helpful. I bought a bunch of pieces that I know Ill love wearing for a long time. I highly recommend!
One of my favorite secondhand stores! Ive found so many quality, unique pieces here. A bit pricey at times, but they know what they have. The pricey stuff is usually the really funky and fashionable pieces, but nothing is outrageous. Even the designer pieces are a good bit off list price and are typically in pretty good condition. Would definitely recommend! 4 stars only because theyre a bit expensive sometimes, otherwise its a hit.
Really enjoyed my shopping experience at Beacons Closet. We stayed in Brooklyn from out of town, for 3 days and managed to come here every day. Some very solid finds, including an Armani jacket. Prices are reasonable, from $8 upwards. We ended up buying three pairs of shoes as well. Overall great experience. Wish there was more change rooms to avoid long lineups.
Would love to give this place 5 stars but the staff here is rude. Every time I sell here my stuff is here it’s handed back me in a ball of clothes. Not folded. Just thrown in. I’ve worked retail...it literally takes 5 seconds to fold clothing. Just be a little more respectful of others.
I find more rare gems here compared to the other locations. (Employees are also much nicer here) In pre-corona times, very difficult to shop due to its cramped size and influx of Manhattanites doing their BK day trips. Much more comfortable now with the 10 person in store maximum.
Decent spot for used clothing. I like that they hang everything by the color, makes browsing so much easier. A lot of the items are overpriced in my opinion. Keep in mind that the shop is fairly small and can be very difficult to browse around if its crowded. Most of the employees have a very nasty attitude, yikes, and I never feel welcomed here.
Dont even think theyll buy your clothes. More of a racket then legit consignment purchasing spot. Theyll offer you nothing, even for quality items, in the hopes you dont want to lug it all back home. The kicker? Two of the three non-profits they donate extra clothes to are not 591(c)3 registered and the staff explained they dont have any schedule or ability to ensure donations go to the ones that are. The clothes for purchases are over priced, but might be worth checking out if you need a last minute Halloween costume.
I don’t complain for buying some stuffs here.Problem is for selling. They say that they take stuffs at the highest rate 35% cash but turned out, they don’t take a lot of stuffs even if those are on season. And also there is NO other shops buying items so I don’t recommend sell here. They kinda take advantage of the location.I’d rather go Manhattan 23rd st buffalo exchange cuz there are a few more shops buying items even if you can’t sell all of your items at one place.
The clothes are a little over priced and the cashier was super rude to me, threw my purchases on the counter unfolded in a ball, rolled her eyes when I asked about their refund policy and then didnt even say thank you. If you want cheaper prices, better selection and friendlier staff try the L train vintage. Much better experience.
Oh my word! What a treasure this place is. A magnificent collection of vintage pieces in excellent shape!! Music is energetic. And the staff is awesome. There are 3 locations. Bushwick and Manhattan. The flagship store is in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Havent visited the one in Manhattan yet. My favorite is the Bushwick location. Selections in every department are well stocked. And they encourage bringing in your wardrobe that you arent using for trade or to sell. A win win situation!!!!
They organize by color and garment type here, so finding the right size can be a real task. A lot of junk, as with any thrift, but its all clean. I saw designer pieces marked $40+, it really depends on the quality of the item but there are definitely some deals to be found. They charge for bags here so bring your reusables with you.
Easy the Best Buy Sell Trade in NYC. Yes it is very crowded so go during off times if possible. Things are organized by color not size so find the gems takes some digging. If youre selling make sure its in season and check to see what they are buying in. It seams that they look mostly for designer and vintage.
1.) Does this store really need to be in Bushwich? I understand its gentrifying (aka forcing hardworking natives out and replacing them with people who most likely had an easier life) but the prices are waaaaaaaay to high.2.) I think the store is trying to follow the gentrifying trend. (which is fine) I though it was weird that the same items I brought in to sell was not purchased but similar items was purchased from another female (who just so happens to be white). A friend of mind who sells regularly at this spot (who is white) also doesnt seem to have a problem bringing back a few bucks, we shop at nearly the same stores so her wardrobe is not that different than mine.3.) I love this store and I will continue to shop here but I will sell my items in places where I dont fell judged and maybe bigger so theyll have more room for more items. (advice to management, diversify your staff) The vibe is noticeable.I hope this review does not sound racist of any sort this is just the vibe I felt/experienced numerous times Ive shopped and sold here. its just blunt honesty. Beacons Closet has the right to buy and sell to a specific target audience, which is something completely normal in retail.
I have nice clothes primarily unworn and in-season so I have no idea why none of mine are purchased meanwhile Im looking around at whats in-store and what other people are bringing in and dont understand why theirs is okay but not mine. Theres an obvious and blunt reason why and my friends (who are white) have caught on and no longer sell there. This has happened to me before here and its a shame. Youre in Brooklyn. Your branch especially the buyers should reflect Brooklyn and be more diverse.__UPDATETwo years later and I still have not gone back into that store. Literally, all of those clothes had NO ISSUE selling on Poshmark within days. Why? Because they were in-style, in-season and of quality. Not F21 or random stores. Dolce & Gabanna, YSL leather jacket, Zara clothes and trench coats from & Other Stories. Nothing was wrong with my clothes. This place has everything wrong with the BUYERS. Go to Poshmark, plus youll get WAY MORE value for your clothing items PLUS free shipping/app download is also free.B
Just meh.For how much is in here and considering it’s curated I thought I’d find more pieces that caught my eye. It’s super high traffic and relatively small so maybe it’s just picked over? I did score a nice dress. It’s a solid store but there are others I’d pick over it any day.
Will never go back! They were playing a station that used rated xxx explicits that was very, very, very flugar!!! I walked out IMMEDIATELY!!! My first and last visit!!! Did not want to even highlight a star. But in order to post I had to bubble in 1 Star. Awful, Awful and Awful.
Horrible service, it’s my first time, I left my clothes, and worker told me that I will get message, it’s gonna take hour, then till next day, till I call there I didn’t know what’s going on, no messages, no calls, and then when I called there they told me if you don’t pick up your stuff today, we will donate it, so it’s mean they work like that, they don’t sent notifications to sellers, and after just take items that they can sell, and rest make donation, and don’t spend even penny 🤔☹️

2022-05-11Yet another successful shopping spree at Beacons Closet! They have great quality pieces - designer, vintage, and everything in-between. Im in love with my latest find, a designer dress in pristine condition which I would not have been able to afford brand new. Thank you, Beacons!

2022-06-14Many friends warned me they scam when it comes to buying but I was shocked. I brought it several designer pieces: 2 brand new with tags 7 for all man kind jeans $200+ each, plus good quality ralph lauren, j crew, etc and got $11 of store credit. Donate to dress for success instead.

2022-03-26I like the vibe of this place . Its like open in the front which was quite nice and their clothing is color coordinated . I like that a lot . I wish there was more space around the clothing walking space . I would like to come back when its not crowded . I think I would enjoy it much better . But I got a purse from deadly ponies I think its called and got it for 24.95 and a blouse for 16 bucks . I would say if youre looking for super cheap thrifting I wouldnt come here but if youre looking for quality pieces and unique pieces come here . Its a nice experience . Ill be back

2022-05-21If I could give less stars I would. The people who work here act like are big shots. They are so rude and will not give you the time of day. Everything is overpriced and overhyped. It is always a terrible experience visiting Beacon’s (any of their locations). The eye rolling and horrible attitudes are not it. At the end of the day it is a retail store and no one should be treating their customers that way.

2022-07-24I am disabled and have to use a cane. An employee pushed me and I almost fell to the ground. When I complained I was basically told to leave and was told “sorry you feel that way”. Not only the place isn’t accessible and no one will give you accommodation, they also outwardly assault you since you take too much space as a disabled person.

2020-11-22Great store for more high end clothes! Prices are a bit expensive but that’s to be expected for what you’re buying. Highly recommend checking out! Be prepared to wait in a line to get in.

2022-06-18Security was so sweet yet to no one’s surprise the floor staff was rude aF, multiple people followed me around and made sly comments towards my ‘bold’ existence.
