Went for the first time over the weekend and already one of my favorite thrift stores in the city. The space is massive with everything organized on racks by color. They have an insane jacket selection that I wish I would have found earlier on the winter! They’re being very strict about Covid regulations and only letting 19 people in the store at a time which caused a really long line outside. I got in like with about 10-12 groups in front of me and waited about 30/35 minutes so I’d recommend bringing a book or a friend. Also, beware of the dressing rooms. They use insanely flattering lighting and I ended up buying things that honestly didn’t look as good on back at home!
This place is hard to figure out. I have sold a lot of items there in the past, but my last two trips have been awful. They pass on 7s, Diesel, and Bonobos pants in near mint condition. Meanwhile, if you look at the jeans they sell, it’s no-name brands for under $20. Although they were buying for fall, they passed on my nearly unworn Frye boots. It’s jacket season but they didn’t want my newish Marmot jacket either. Bizarre.
Had the unfortunate experience of bringing my goods to this business that I had purchased from on numerous occasions. The staff, collectively all maybe 21 years old, I found to be the rudest most unprofessional Ive encountered in a customer service retail capacity. Not only rude & unprofessional but I thought we were having a decent conversation, how wrong I was, my belongings were sorted through quickly, they never took the time to inspect the labels, quality, sizes, etc before tossing them back into the bags - mind you never folded or returned in the same condition as they received them. I was shocked, placed my goods into my basket & as leaving out falls a sandal, a shoe, earrings. As I turned to ask what they did with my goods, the three of the cackling employees fled in different directions. By the time I got to my car to sort everything out I found shoes, accessories & jewelry missing. I returned to the store, to ask what happened to my items & sure enough one of the little darlings found my earrings on the floor behind the counter. Her response, “oh”in that nails on a chalkboard Kardashian wanna be voice. Never bothering to look for anything else. I have no patience, understanding or good will for anyone behaving like this & believe in karma so I’ll let time take care these poor excuses of human beings. And from my experience, also reading other reviews here, management really doesn’t care which means they approve & endorse this behavior. And one can only imagine what management is here.Obviously there will be no more purchases here or any of their other stores.Interesting how the very few responses from management are not in response to the negative reviews…how reflective, unprofessional, unsupportive & indicative of how customers, you know those of us that keep your businesses running & pay your staff, are looked upon. What a disgrace.
Ive been searching for a Dakine Field bag in black for my partner for forever and stumbled upon Beacons Closet thanks to the worldwide web! We saw a Dakine bag while on a road trip and decided to pass, thinking wed find more. Turns out we were VERY WRONG!! Ive been searching high and low since and have finally found it thanks to Beacons Closet and just in time for Christmas!I live in Canada and love that I can support a local and sustainable shop – 100% female founded might I add – over the holiday season! Thank you!!
Employees are extremely rude here. I’ve been here multiple times and every time the employees have been downright rude to me. I have been looked up and down and given dirty looks, given annoyed sighs while at checkout and just given attitude with every employee. I have a lot of patience for normal human interactions but every time I’m here I am made uncomfortable by the way I am treated by workers, and I don’t think I’m that overbearing? Clothes are fine, lowest price you will find is 12$. Shoes is a great selection.
Ordered from Beacons Closet online store again and it was just as great of a service/experience as last time. I ordered an item for myself and two gift cards as holiday presents. The item was seriously like new - better than described on the website - and was a steal for less than $15. (Update: I wore the top yesterday and SO many people wanted to know where I got it - the blessing and curse of recycled fashion is that its very rare to find the same piece twice.) The gift cards came in fancy metallic envelopes that are gorgeous - more than nice enough to present them as is to my recipients. Love this place.
I just want to say that Beacons Closet is still my favorite place to shop in all of New York City! Ive never been to their Greenpoint location and not found something I loved. The buyers do a fantastic job and buying what is on trend, but also classic styles that you can wear forever. The prices are very reasonable, especially compared to some of the other pricier curated vintage stores around the city. I find the staff at this location to be polite and friendly, and Ive never had a bad customer service experience there. All in all, I would highly recommend shopping at Beacons if youre looking for something special, or if you are just in the mood for some quality retail therapy!
I love Beacons closet! All the locations are great, but this one in Greenpoint is a wonderland. I love shopping in person, and recently I just placed my first online order. Items are always priced fairly, and even lower than expected a lot of the time! This is my go-to for shopping secondhand designer.
Lots of beautiful clothes, but the organization is by color and not by size, which makes it hard to find things that fit if you’re not a small or medium, which seems to be the vast majority of what they carry. hard and discouraging to shop here if you need XL or even L because they’re nearly impossible to find – not very considerate of different kinds of customers and bodies. probably won’t be returning.
I do not enjoy writing bad reviews but I was shocked at the treatment my friends and I had at Beacons Closet last night. The staff were just plain mean.. not even rude but just plain mean. We waited outside for 30 minutes to get into the store (which is absolutely acceptable given COVID - we had no issue with this and appreciated this strict policy regarding a reduced capacity); however, when we got inside the store, we had only 20 minutes left to shop. Again, this was no problem - we went to this particular store later in the day after hitting other vintage/thrift shops. I own my own vintage store and live in Manhattan and thrift constantly. Ive never had an issue like what I experienced below:1. We got in at 6:35, we had 25 minutes left to shop as they close at 7. We were in there for 10 minutes and I had at least 3 things in my hand when a male associate came up to me and sternly said either put it BACK or go to the register NOW. You need to be at the register, no excuses. I said okay, no problem. I was thrown by this behavior but headed toward the register, even though I barely got to shop.2. My friend Nicole spotted a jacket on one of the back walls that she knew Id want to add to my collection and before she could even point it out to me, an associate came up to her and said you cant look at this wall, were closing. These items are no longer available. Again, they were closing in 15 minutes...3. All of this behavior up until now was rude .. but I wouldnt characterize it as mean.. until I was waiting to be rung up at the register and I spotted a red leather skirt by a rack next to the register. I went over to the skirt and a sales associate was by the rack, tidying it up. I said excuse me and waited for her to excuse herself from the area I was interested in and then she screamed (yes, screamed I am not exaggerating) at me SOCIAL DISTANCING!!!!!! At first I thought she was joking and being sarcastic, because we clearly were NOT on top of each other - I mean I waited for her to move to the other side of the rack before looking at the skirt. I took the skirt and walked towards my friends near the register and they asked if I was okay because they heard her yell and apparently she was shaking her head and eyeing me when I left the rack. 1 other person near the line heard her yell as well and said to me you werent even close to her. Are you ok I was so embarrassed and just wanted to leave the store. I got two items I really wanted and put down the rest because it wasnt worth it to me to give them that much business.3. I checked out at the register and chose a cloth bag instead of paper when they asked me. I had already put my debit card in when the associate said oh actually we dont have cloth out on the floor... Ill give you paper. I said well I already paid the $1.75 for the cloth bag (not a huge deal, but at this point I was so fed up with the staff). He said wellll I would have to go in the back and get it....... like are you serious!? Then go in the back and get it! Does this store even care about their customers at all? At this point, I just felt like these sales associates clearly dont care about customer service at all. I have my own store and have worked retail for years and would NEVER treat a customer like this. It was shocking.4. While I was being rung up, my friends were waiting for me. It was around 6:50, and a different sales associate came up to them and rudely said you need to leave now. Were closed and want to go home. And pointed at the door.As I left this Beacons Closet, I can honestly say my eyes filled up a little bit because I felt so embarrassed and felt like I was treated so poorly. Ive never ever had that type of experience in any other store. Im really hoping this was an off day for everyone that works there because this is simply unacceptable.
Tried to go to this place at 7:35, when it’s supposed to close at 8. They said they didn’t let people in after 7:30, which is dumb rule. I could have fully been in and out in less than 25 minutes. Don’t advertise you close at a certain time if you stop letting people in a full 30 minutes prior.
I had a fun shopping experience and this is one of my favorite stores because it is small and big enough. I have gotten stuff that I like to think was put there specifically for me to have. What I appreciate most is the clothes that are always in great to spectacular condition. The shoes there are decent as well. In fact my best purchase to date from there was genuine leather Aldo Mary Jane stilettos with not a scratch for ten bucks.
I have been shopping at Beacons for more than a decade now, and they are my go to second hand shop. When not on foot, I find myself purchasing from their online store out of convenience. I find the clothes and accessories to be well curated, updated frequently, and of good quality. I use their site mainly for accessories. I even bought my Elizabeth and James eye glasses frames from Beacons online store for under 50 dollars, and had prescription lenses puts in. Overall a great business with a lot of uniqueness. Hope you find you find what youre looking for :)
The best second hand store in New York!I love going there, I literally find cool stuff ever time I go! I yesterday bought an amazing CHLOÉ jacket and a brand new pair of doc Martins. I have Acne jeans from there cool accessories and bags. It’s really the best store, and well organized. It’s also a good place to sale the clothes you don’t wear anymore. They give you cash back right away (or store credit). And what they won’t buy, you can just leave it anyway for donation or recycle.
I bought three tops online from Beacons Closet. The sizing information online was very accurate (everything fits!) and the quality of each piece is great! My purchase made it to North Carolina within two days (faster than other two day shipping from larger companies) and everything was packed nicely. I cant wait to find other great items at affordable prices!!
I brought in three 30-gallon garbage bags full of clothes, some designer, practically brand new designer shoes, and they took not ONE item! Out of at least 100+ items. I donated the rest to charity. Wouldn’t be surprised if I saw a few of my nicer items on their shelves within a few days...
Beacon’s Closet is open to Sellers! There are new protocols in place to keep everyone safe. There are two entrances: on by the park for shoppers only, and one further in along the street for sellers only. Both lines have indicators where 6ft apart is. The selling greeter is seated at a desk right at the door that has protective covering, and you place your bag in a cart so you don’t really have to enter the store. Contactless payouts with Cash App or Paypal or Store Credit. Plenty of plastic protective barriers at the checkout and for other staff locations inside. The biggest bottles of Purrell you’ve ever seen!Make sure you “quarantine” your bag of items for 24hrs before bringing them to the shop, and max 50 items. Thanks Beacon’s for helping us spring clean and find ways to earn some much needed extra cash these days. My payout remained at nearly the same level to pre-pandemic drop-offs! Greatly appreciated!
I absolutely love this place! I used to shop here frequently when I lived in NY and was saddened when I had to leave it behind. However, until I discovered there online store. Ordered a really cute vintage necklace that went perfect with my outfit for a wedding! It was a in great condition as they noted. No complaints here.
The buyers here are rude, not knowledgable, and entirely inconsistent, which makes it a pretty bad place to sell, but a decent place to buy, if you have a good eye and a lot of time. You can also make a little money off of their poor judgment. For example, I bought an $500 Harris Tweed jacket here for $50, vintage Levis 501s for $25 that I sold for $150, a Paco Rabanne purse for $30, etc. Theyve also bought things from me for $50 that I originally paid $20 for. Its annoying when they wont buy my designer clothes that are new with the tags on for $400, but when I look at the rack its full of Forever 21, H&M and Gap. Theres also the nagging suspicion that the employees put valuable luxury items in the donation bin and then take them home. Still, its not worth trying to argue with someone who spends all day dealing with angry would-be sellers for minimum wage. One more tip if you shop here: dont buy any sweaters. They always have moth holes, and if you put them in your closet you risk the moths spreading into the rest of your wardrobe.
This is heaven for vintage and secondhand lovers! Here you can buy, sell and trade clothes. Amazing deals. If youre lucky, you can get away with amazing pieces from designer labels to a little amount of money. I recommend to try clothes on before buying, and look for things that are not as they should. I was there yesterday and found 2 amazing vintage sequin-pieces. The employees are nice, and will help you if you need anything.
A+ customer service always-I shop both online and in-store whenever Im in the area, and I always find amazing treasures! They have really great items items from high end designers and one of a kind vintage things both, and the prices are really reasonable. Highly recommended!
Recently ordered a pair of Prada boots online, which Im super satisfied with as they arrived quickly in perfect condition. Ive stopped by all the NYC locations as well, and I can safely say that Beacons Closet always has the best items Ive seen out of all the thrift stores Ive gone to. You can tell that its aimed towards a younger, stylish crowd since the pieces are less outdated-looking than other thrift shops, and theres plenty of designer fashion, especially shoes. The stores are also always well organized and easy to browse. I highly recommend both in-store and online shopping with Beacons Closet!
Beacons closet was an adventure. Great staff and greater selections. The ambiance was cool, the choices in attire was vast, it was a little overcrowded but who doesnt enjoy having many options. The prices were reasonable and the items were in good condition. I think Im a new patron.
One of the best second hand stores I have ever been to. Ive been going to Beacon since they opened and its nice to see how theyve grown. Really successful. The cool thing is that you really find clothes from different decades and they are in good condition. Great place to shop for theme parties whether they be for Halloween or 80s.
Not all the workers at this location are pretentious, The cashiers and the person at the Entrance were really friendly and helpful. It is all great until you get to the sale section. For starters they look at you with And arrogant attitude like they are doing you a favor, and I asked to see how they sort through all my clothes and they didn’t call my name To let me see the process. I took over 50 pieces of clothing including Tim Duncan basketball jerseys that were in extremely good condition. Brand new Buffalo, DKNY and Levi’s jeans with the manufacturer Tag still on and some very good looking shirts. After five minutes he was done with all of the sorting and he didn’t even open the clothing to see the condition, he just looked at The fabric i guess and put it aside. They did not take one single piece of clothing. PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AT THIS LOCATION. BE AWARE. I would give it one star but the friendly cashiers and people at the entrance salvaged their one star rating.
Where do I begin? I absolutely love this store. I have found so many amazing, unique pieces for such great prices. I could explore the store for hours - almost never leave empty-handed. I dont see a reason to buy retail anymore when there are gems like Beacons Closet in the city.

By far, my favorite store in Brooklyn!!! I drive about an hour away from home quite frequently JUST to shop here and spend hours browsing at the unique and very stylish items that come from all the cool places in the world. I never leave empty handed, and I never come in empty handed; im so happy that they buy clothes, and always go about the process very reasonably. Shockingly affordable prices... never a disappointment.
The store is nice and organized but the people who work here are convinced they work for Anna Wintour at the Vogue headquarters getting ready for fashion week. A white top I picked out had a cute little bed bug crawling on the collar so maybe when they realize they work at a second hand clothing store and not Chanel and proceed to remove whatever is stuck so far up in their behinds, shopping here might be a more pleasant experience. If you’re super into ridiculously dressed people talking like they have something stuck in their mouth ignoring you when you ask for help and making fun of you as you inquire about bizarre things like the business hours then this IS the place for you. I would say they’re a bunch of pretentious trash but I don’t want to offend trash.
I recently purchased a sweater online. The package arrived in a timely manner and the sweater was very nice. I appreciate that Beacons Closet carries menswear because most designer thrift stores only sell clothing for women. Prices online are often expensive for pre-owned clothing. However, I would recommend this store because the selection is high quality and fashionable.
The online shop at Beacons Closet has a currated selection of clothing from unique finds to basic staples. Many of the pieces I have bought over the years are some of my cherished pieces like my denim jacket and vintage surfing sweatshirt. In my experience buying online, I have received my items on time and are true to their online descriptions. Worth checking out!
This Beacons Closet location has an online store which is super cool. I purchased a lovely Prada skirt online. The shipping was $5.75 and very fast, I received the skirt within the week. I was overjoyed, however, I wasnt extremely fond of the material and wanted the option to return. I emailed Beacons they sent me a one day prepaid return label no problem. Even though the item I got didnt work out, I always shop and sell to Beacons Im a repeat client, and will continue to be. Thanks so much for the fast and efficient customer service. I really appreciate it!
The customer service in the front at this location is a miss. I get greeted in the back and more help than in the front of the store. Theyre zombies, just sifting through clothing, look up at the door to see whos coming in and then look back down towards the clothes. The Only great thing I like is the selection of Dr. Martens boots.
If you want to sell, this is not the place to do so. You are better off with eBay, Poshmark, or another consignment store. Unless you have a very specific niche of apparel, in a particular season, they will laugh at what you brought and give you attitude. I’m not kidding-I overheard them. This is the second location I have brought great condition designer labels to, and have been scoffed at. The employees here have to be analytical and particular sure, but they do not have to be cold and judgmental.
I really liked the store. It was well organized and they had some awesome pieces. But I was really shocked that my bag was taken at the door. Dont get me wrong Ive been to stores that do that but this was different. I spent some time there browsing and trying a few things on and it didnt occur to me until I was standing in line ready to pay. As I looked around everyone had a bag. Bigger than the one I had brought in. Women were walking around with totes and backpacks yet MY bag was taken upon entering the store. Ill be blunt and say majority of the women were white. I dont know what it was about me that screamed thief but Ill say this, as nice as your store was I will not be coming back. Truly disgusted and disappointed.
DENIED OF ENTRY. Reason - wrong face covering! Was offered disposable surgical mask.Unfortunately, turned out not everyone can tolerate masks! I wear my fabric face-covering, bc I cant tolerate surgical or any other plastic PPE and I have exemption. According to NYC regulations (Section 66-3.2) I dont have to wear any based on medical reasons, but I still do it and this is what I get in return. Very sad and frustrating. Also NYC regulations allow ANY face covering, so at least think about the ocean and landfill where all these PPE will stay for hundreds of years.Section 66-3.2 - Face-CoveringsEffective Date02/25/2021Section 66-3.2 Face-Coverings(a) Any person who is over age two and able to medically tolerate a face-covering shall be required to cover their nose and mouth with a mask or face-covering when in a public place and unable to maintain, or when not maintaining, social distance..... this regulation shall be applied in a manner consistent with the federal American with Disabilities Act, New York State or New York City Human Rights Law, and any other applicable provision of law.
As someone who has shopped on Beaacons online store for several years, I was won over by the impressive selection and unbeatable prices. For those of us who appreciate singular items while also being budget-minded, its a good site to keep an eye on! All interactions have been professional, and all orders have been as described and well-packaged. Will continue to patronize the site for years to come!
Ive been here dozens of times and shopped from their online store dozens of times. Everything they sell is as described and their workers are very friendly. Their customer service is amazing and their prices are fair! There are many more items in store than online, but they always sell the best items.
Inexpensive, nice people. They are great at making clothes that people no longer want available to people who will appreciate them. The only downside is that the variety, selection and size of their inventory can be daunting and it can be overwhelming if youre looking for anything specific.
This is my favorite thrift store in the city. They have everything from costume-y vintage stuff to lingerie and a lot of shoes. I like the way its color coordinated and they have bought some of my stuff too. Good place to find clothes from a bunch of different time periods.
I had some sellers remorse..They underpriced some Items I sold them...which I guess is good for the customers rather than the sellers. But when i tried to buy back (the same day) my item was gone. I wonder if the owners buy low and resell high ticket items privately on ebay or something? It seems like it would be a good way to make $...
I was selling some mens clothes and shoes here, they seem like only want good condition good branded stuff. Even tho most of my stuff are ok conditions and branded, they only took one shirt. Beware you are going there to sell things like me, I shoulda gone to Buffalo. But cool store tho.
Great experience with this store. they have very nice vintage pieces and reasonable prices. I got a pair of boots and they broke right after i got an international flight. Cindy, the lady behind the FB account was veeeeery professional and friendly in helping me out and even giving me a refound. Definitely coming back! Thank you again
Reviewing from strictly a sellers standpoint, I was extremely displeased. I brought in about 4 bags of clothes (more than 50 articles of clothing) and they took nothing. They told me they were only buying for summer, so I expected a bag or two back, but they took absolutely nothing. Out of everything I brought, there wasnt a single thing they wanted...? Unacceptable and a waste of my time. Not bringing any clothes here again.
I love visiting Beacons Closet whenever I am in NYC. Its such a fun way to pass time while youre in the city. Ive found great pieces at many locations throughout NYC.Recently, Ive discoverd that they have an online store that they update daily with new pieces. This has quickly become my newest addiction; I just purchased an amazing Anna Sui bag for under $30! I highly recommend shopping both in stores and online because, they have a great selection of vintage and high end pieces!
As a personal fan of any sort of designer-for-less type stores, I love this company. If youve got the time to look, you are almost always guaranteed to find something. The price points are very reasonable and the inventory is constantly changing. Highly recommend checking out any of the various locations!
I have found wonderful items at Beacons including a theory black velvet coat and a vintage wool slacks as well as a Nicole Miller blazer. Everything was in near perfect condition and I am sure that I would find even more items but the racks are packed too tight with people.
Don’t sell your stuff here it’s pointless. You’ll only sell like two items from your bag , it’s sick. If you don’t look a certain way they won’t bother to even look at your stuff . They lie and say We’ve checked and were not interested. Like I said a lie . My clothing look EXACTLY the same . Staff are rude and Liars . Don’t bother your time or money at this place. Disappointed!!!!!
This is my favorite secondhand clothing store. I was introduced to this place on my first trip to NYC, before I even could fathom what Brooklyn meant. I love the organization here - all by color. If you dont have colors in mind though, you might go nuts here. Good variety though and its overall a large store.
Beacons is so bomb! i used to stop in the greenpoint shop often when i lived in nyc, and always left with something awesome! the pricing is reasonable, and theres a good mix of affordable, lower-end (but still good quality) items, vintage, and designer brands. im always looking for that good weird unknown brand stuffffff and theyve got it ~ ive also found the employees to be really nice, helpful, and real. thanks for being awesome yalllll : - )
I had a faux mink early 1970s midi- coat I wanted to sell because it was too big for me. Crossroads passed on it because the vintage label recommended Fur Cleaning. The much too-young sales girl thought it might actually be real mink (it is OBVIOUSLY not real fur.) I explained to her that in the early 70s, faux fur was new & people were unfamiliar with how to care for it. Fortunately, the girl recommended Beacons Closet! Not only did they recognize how cool the coat is & immediately bought it, the sales girl there treated me with respect & courtesy--no snotty vintage elitism here, which was refreshing. I get so tired of the major attitude some young millennials working in vintage exhibit toward customers, especially since I have *forgotten* more about vintage fashion than they know;) the folks at BC gave me a fair price in trade & I bought 2 fabulous winter coats. They have a good selection of coats & sweaters, cute cocktail dresses, & really cool new hosiery from London. The reason I am giving 4 stars (should really be 4 1/2 stars) is because they dont really help you find anything, & because garments are arranged by color, you have to browse & browse & browse--kind of exhausting. I dig the color-system, but itd be nice if the salespeople would assist customers (many are just hanging around, chatting with one another!) Or if thats too much to ask for, itd be cool if tops/Ts/blouses were separate from sweaters & hoodies. Nevertheless, this is a small criticism. If you have an hour+ to shop, its worth checking out. Lots of fun clothing & the prices are pretty fair, esp for the winter coats. I recommend it.
This store is one of the greatest for second handed clothing. but you need to be careful, the last time i bought a drees there it broke the first time i used it! but the service is great and they will help you with whatever you need. you can sell your cloth there for a good deal, not like other stores that over[priced their cloth but buy it for a very low price. i would definetly recommend this to sell your cloth
Super rude! Today I showed up a little bit before five, and it was supposed to be open until seven. The guy told me that they decided to close early, and also wouldn’t let me in even though I was there before their new closing time. And of course, it didn’t say anything on their website about closing early. Since they want to keep arbitrary hours, I guess I’ll just not shop there.
This is a place you have to swing by a bunch of times to find gems. The usual selection is alright, but nothing different than you can find at cheaper Goodwills or neighborhood thrift stores. The staff, at least on my visit, seemed like they wish they were out at a party and werent very helpful. They have a good selection of vintage ties and jackets.
Obviously, Beacons Closet is awesome in that you can get a $100 dress for $15. There isnt really that much vintage going around but there is a lot of designner stuff very cheap. And the clothes are clean, interesting, and of good quality. Ive seen a lot of last seasons Brooklyn boutique summer dresses I stupidly bought this year for a quarter of the price at Beacons. The reason Im not giving this place five stars is because there is so much selection, it gets way overwhelming. I prefer Buffalo Exchange a couple of blocks away just because its smaller and you can focus.
Beacons Closet is where all the hipsters shop. I dont blame there. There is actually a good selection of tees here and the shoes are in good condition. In the front are non-clothes items for the house. It is kind of like an urban outfitters but used. This is a good place to kill time when you are waiting to get into the brewery across the street.
As a true vintage/2nd hand lover, Beacons Closet is one of the best 2nd hand shops i know! since i dont live in the states i order online and im totally addicted! they have the best stuff, so versatile i have to check their stock updates everyday. quick delivery as well.
Beacons Closet is probably one of the biggest consignment stores I have seen in New York area. It is pretty well organized although the Mens section is sadly tiny. The quality here is definitely not as good as Tokyo 7 in East Village. Beacons caters more to the low price range shoppers.I spent a good 20 minutes walking around but I didnt find anything worth buying. If you dig some second hand apparel or accessories, this is a decent place to check out. You might find your treasure piece here!
I have to say, Ive been to this place a million times and have never ever ever been disappointed. EVER. I always end up finding more than I thought, in better CONDITION than I thought, and for way cheaper than I thought. (If you like yourself a good pair of designer jeans, for real, dont go anywhere else. $20. The. End.) And I personally much prefer this location
Normally I do shopping online via beacons closet website. It was first time I checked on its location in Brooklyn... and it was great! Ok, it takes time to find something you actually love among huge amount of diffrent clothes and accessories, but its soooo worth it!
Beacons Closet is a classic new york city thrift shop, meaning its as expensive as a department store and the staff is often pretentious. They have a nice selection of clothing, and if youre looking for vintage store classics like rock tees or hawaiian shirts you are guaranteed to find something, just be prepared to pay more than you would at a goodwill in about every other town in this country. Yeah, the clothes are cute, but it lacks all of the joy that comes from finding gems in thrift stores. You might as well go to urban outfitters.
Customer service is awful. Incompetent and rude. Why do people who work in a used clothing stores act pretentious??? Hilarious. They give very little money for the clothes that they buy. My error for bring a pair of R13 jeans, which I am sure they did not realize what they had (again hilarious to be pretentious when you have no clue as to what R13 is).
This Beacons Closet is always packed when I visit it. Its not to blame though, because finding treasures here is almost guaranteed. Because of the size of the store (very big), there is a lot to look at, and it might be a little overwhelming at first, but something that comes in handy is the fact that the clothes are color-coordinated. In terms of searching for certain articles of clothing, there are no labels indicating what types of clothes are where, so everything is based off of studying what is on the racks. Despite the abundance of clothes, shoes, and accessories, because of how tightly packed the racks are and how many people shop all at once, it can become extremely annoying way too quickly to continue to look around. The rows between the clothes racks are very narrow, and if you happen to be lugging around a mound of clothes on your arm, or an oversized bag, be wary of knocking something down or getting stuck between hangers. If somebody in front of you happens to stop to look at something, you are forced to say excuse me or maze around other people just to get to your destination. Pricing is fair, but to get the really good finds you would have to spend an amount of time and a certain amount of patience.
Staff was really rude about the no bag policy which last time I went, didn’t exist. And it wasn’t made very clear in the entrance, so I entered and ended up being given attitude for that. Also, like other reviews say, the staff is pretentious. Made me feel so uncomfortable and felt treated like I wasn’t human...
Beacons Closet might as well have a piggy face as their logo and be called Bacons closet. I live outside of the state and had driven in with one of my good friends. Her car was full of about $22,000+ (about $12,000+ to earn) of my belongings.. belongings I just couldnt keep. We had initially planned to travel to Williamsburg with my belongings to have the store buy from us so we could share the earned money, she would get 25% of everything and wed put a certain amount in our savings for a vacation together. Previously I had good shopping experiences at the store, and because I know how they had previously priced my belongings.. I had a good idea of what kind of profit I would be making.(However.. I remember the drive to the store.. and thinking in the back of my head.. Itd be better if they dont say theyre going to give the stuff that they refuse to price.. to goodwill.. and then be liars and hang it on their racks in the store anyways.. because Ive seen them do that with my belongings and its rather poor of them, so itd be better if they dont.)We parked right in front of the store, my friend really had to pee so I sat in the drivers seat with the car on before we went inside. As I began bringing all of my belongings to the section of the appropriate section of the store and on about my 8th time inside loading these belongings ($12,000+ remember is a lot of belongings), I saw a man who was wearing this neat sweater that had this avocado green color that I just felt was so interesting.. having a cigarette in front of the store.. so I asked for one. I found out he was very nice and he was visiting from Greece.. I felt this was very interesting, kind of amazing.I continued bringing my belongings to the appropriate counter at the store. One of my friends who had come with me was told she had to put her name on a tag too because there is this limit policy they have. The staff told us to come in the following day (because of how much) so they could price and everything. After enjoying dinner at a bar close to the store, we had started driving home. On the ride home we began talking about how we were disappointed we never got our money that day for those belongings of mine, but how we could hang out together again the following day.. take the train in and everything… so it was like, and we were like.. whatever. The following day we had come into the store again as the staff at the store told us and the time at which they told us… We went straight to the front counter, super excited about everything and our vacation and everything else we were and could be looking forward too.We handed in our tags and this ugly lady with this horrible mean voice started pointing at my belongings saying Is this yours?.. confused about the tone in the ladies voice, we softly said something like yeah. She started grabbing each duffle... and throwing each duffle... one by one across the room… and into the goodwill pile.. saying... we cant take this bag.. and until all of my $12,000+ of belongings I wanted to earn money from and share with my friends... were in the goodwill section.Im a baby when it comes to mean, loud, inappropriate, ugly (inside)…etc people, plus unreasonable and inappropriate situations.. and both me and one of my good friends, had been and still are in a position where we need jobs and I need to have a car belonging to me and we need to begin making a living to pay and take care of our living situations and be able to take care of ourselves.. i need to be able to take care of myself.. and this life that belongs to me… and this life that belongs to us.. in general.. so of course I cried.Bacons closet never gave me even one penny for my belongings. And I dont want to go into that piggish store ever again (like never) and see these particular belongings of mine not in goodwill because theyre on Bacon Closets racks hanging.Never.
Since I live far from Greenpoint, I mostly use their online store which I give a rating of (FFFF) Fun, Fast, Fabulous and Friendly. Updated regularly, full of surprises and one of the best customer service experiences Ive had online. But, when I have been in their Brooklyn locations, theres always some treasure to be found.
The prices here are a bit steep for a thrift store. I think the hipster demand for vintage goods is to blame. They do, however, have some quality brand name shoes and apparel. Ive seen Gucci, Dolce and Gabbana, Michael Kors, and others. Expect to pay anywhere from $10-$80 for one article.
What I love about Beacons on North 11th street1) Awesome music2) cool staff (not uptight like so many other buy/sell/trade stores)3) Dresses!4) WELL INFORMED staff (I appreciate the fact that Ive actually learned a bit about certain styles, eras etc... by simply selling my stuff at Beacons. Thank you for that whole present-buy situation. It really helps.5) Good looking staff/CREATIVE staff (and it shows with all of the cool outfits and hair styles)6) EXCELLENT customer service--i have NEVER had the cold shoulder thrown at me like that god-forsaken corporate douche zone, Crossroads...or like those emo/teen angst snobs at Buffalo7) You have an amazing collection of UNIQUE vintage styles in every department8) The actual store itself is quite appealing and reflects the energy and attitude of the overall idea behind Beacons9) Shoes shoes shoes!
AVOID GOING HERE!!!!! DONT SAY I DIDNT WARN YOU!!!! GO TO CROSSROADS WHERE THERE ARE REALLY COOL, UNIQUE PIECES FROM ALL OVER THE UNIVERSE!!!!BEACONS is going downhill. For a place that transcends a so called niche for selling your high fashion for trade or tender, there is nothing there that says wow, or gotta have. Maybe the mentality is to actually collect clothes that are unique and cool, and really look and appreciate what other people bring to sell otherwise fail and get bought out by somebody or something else. There literally is nothing fashionable about this pathetic store that looks like you can get bed bugs from. Also the people that work there look like a troubled fashionista with tons of baggage that they bring to work and that really reflects on, customer service, what you think is current in fashion which people dont even care about your personal style in the first place, and the kind of price point the company misjustifies for cool pieces people bring to trade or tender, that the staff just disregards. Seriously, who wants a leather Hugo Boss bomber that has holes patched up with glue on the back of it? Lol. A warning for this dying trend, shape up or you will get the hell out. Surprisingly this store has a bunch of lowlife followers that are also troubled and look like they sleep in the streets. They are so many other cooler stores like Buffalo Exchange or CROSSROADS with so much better pieces than this wannabe place. Take it from me, I know fashion and was a prior model in one of the top agencies in NYC.
A lot of people there are really incompetent. They charged me for a paper bag that I didnt even get. It was only 25 cents, but this guy gave me and attitude and threw me a quarter. I am willing to pay only for what I purchase. They should not give me an attitude for their incompetency. The one near Union Square is a lot better.
I have been buying and selling from Beacons for years now. The community was excited when Beacons moved to Greenpoint over Williamsburg. The staff is patient as they can be with people bringing in bags of stuff to sell and people always running around looking for that perfect find. It is always exciting and they have a great eye for fashion.
Beware, they allow dogs in the store. If you have terrible allergies (like me) keep in mind the clothes may well be covered in allergens. I went into the fitting room and had an allergic fit. In the short time I was there I saw a bunch of dogs walking all around the store.

2022-04-27A good shopping experience, much more difficult selling experience. The selection of clothes, the variety, was really great. The shop itself is well organized and very interesting to browse around. A lot of unique pieces, color and pattern. Prices are very reasonable, and was a good shopping experience. For selling, I didnt bring many pieces but none of them were accepted which surprised me since some of the items were well-branded and seemed sale-able. It seems that they are looking for specific looks, or could be overstocked in inventory as well. It didnt seem like I could expect to get much from it even if they were accepted anyway, but now I know for next time.

2021-10-26Not bad. There is usually a line outside—in the summer, I waited 20+ minutes. The store is well organized, mostly by color and category. There is a LOT to go through and it’s not very curated so expect to take some time. Staff is fine but hands off. The prices aren’t bad — not as cheap as your neighborhood thrift, but considering the organization and nice feel of the store, reasonable, and of cours, cheaper and more environmentally friendly than buying new!

2022-01-31My review is for the online shopping experience. the website is organized and user friendly. you can find items according to your size and by gender very quickly. i liked that the items had clear photos from multiple angles as well as descriptions of the item condition. i almost prefer shopping from their online store than their physical store since you can see the clothing on a mannequin, which gives you a sense of the fit much better than when you see it hanging on a rack.

2022-05-26I recently made a purchase at the Beacons Closet online store. I found a beautiful designer sweater which I love. The prices at Beacons are very reasonable, and they have a wonderful selection of pieces in store and online. The shipping was very quick and easy. Highly recommend!

2022-02-22Overall nice experience selling today! Long line to sell, then waited 2.5 hours for the decision. Interesting to see what they bought from my big bag of stuff (only 3 vintage pieces). Keep your everyday boring staples (even if it’s a brand name) and last season’s items at home. They only want quirky, vintage, fun, unique clothing for the next season. Right now it’s end of winter so they want spring clothing. They take your clothes directly to the racks, so you can’t be on the fence about selling.

2022-07-01Amazing thrift store with a huge selection! Its well-curated considering the amount of items they have, and they also have a nice online shop if youre not local or just prefer to not to dig through the racks. Pricing is reasonable, especially in store compared to other spots in Greenpoint.

2021-12-20Sellers be aware, it won’t be worthy of your time and hassle to sell your items in this shop. But do it for fun and experience, and expect to donate most of them... also know that when you are being paid with cash it’s even less than getting paid with the store credit.I have low expectations when I’m dropping things off, but it’s still surprising how cheap they buy items from you. I guess that’s the business model. Also my suspicion is that they don’t buy everything from you so you can ‘donate’ the rest, because they often don’t take the designer products that’s new with tags. Those I sometimes ‘donate’ as I cannot be bothered to take it back home, and I’m sure there are many people like me.My decision? To be more environmentally friendly human being, I plan to only buy stuffs that I know I’ll wear rest of my life. Nothing temporary, nothing just for the trend, so I don’t have to donate things to a charity shop. Donation is good but even better thing is not to buy stuffs in the first place.Oh and the staffs who will be buying stuffs from you usually have the attitude. That’s a little annoying but also quite fun — where on the earth will you experience that? Just let them be.Writing this on a jet legged night...

2022-06-14Definitely the best used clothing store for fun weird quirky stuff. good staff who all know about this stuff. the door waiting thing during covid has been kinda dysfunctional but i also appreciate that theyve tried to make things safer.
