Bear Mountain Inn in other cities:
The Overlook Lodge is not maintained. Stinks, chipped paint on the building door, and floor mats at the building entrance thats permanently stained. I paid $315/night for a bland room with a parking lot view. It was so bad, we left after the first night, cutting our trip short. Avoid it at all costs. You can visit the Bear Mountain State Park without staying in the Bear Mountain Inn/Overlook Lodge. Worst option if you have a pet with you.
It all sounded good on paper, but in execution, was really not the best. The rooms at the lodges are just not meant to be shared by multiple families or groups. The walls are too thin. The air vents allow you to hear full conversations in any room next to yours. The place is so, so hot (I woke up sweating multiple times). Ultimately, I barely got any sleep, and that’s a bummer! So despite being a great location, and a beautiful sight, odds are I’m not staying here again.
Beautiful situated inn.We had a coffee and thee in the Hikers café. Nice, but not very clean. There was an extra door to go out of the cafe, near the tables. That was not pleasant, every time the door was opened it was blowing hard and cold inside. So this review is only about the Hikers café.
Stayed here overnight for a night away w/ my husband and it was my second time here as a guest (last time I was here was maybe 2018). I stayed at the inn this time…the room seemed clean, my concern was the shower floor. It was sunken in with a few loose tiles and the floor felt slimy and slippery.. it sure was odd . When we got into bed I could not sleep. The bed was hard as a rock and the pillows definitely need to be changed because some were stained (pillows, not the pillow cases) and they definitely needed to be retired. I honestly slept 2 hours. Our only breakfast option was the hikers cafe. We purchased two coffees, 2 small plates of eggs, small pancakes and hash browns.. total? $25! The meal truly was McDonald’s quality which is not what I expected from such a nice looking hotel. The pancakes were the type you’d get at the supermarket, frozen that you’d just heat up . The eggs were just scrambled and thrown onto a small dessert plate.. hash browns were VERY greasy as soon as you took a bite. If I could turn back time, I would of went to a diner… I truly felt I wasted my money. The only thing I enjoyed as my facial at the spa and the decor/area itself. It may be very unlikely I visit back here which I very upsetting because it is such a beautiful hotel :(
Bear Mountain Inn was a beautiful location and I had a great time attending a wedding. However, booking experience and staff were a miss. For a wedding venue that hosted a 3:30pm wedding, they refused to move up their 3pm check in for anyone. This put a large burden on traveling guests. Despite multiple requests to just have rooms ready a little earlier, the front desk staff declined repeatedly stating industry standards. When asked to escalate a request, they flat out refused.Accommodations and rooms were not nice enough for the price, and the lack of respect for guests timelines was a massive turnoff. For a venue that hosts many weddings, you would expect them to schedule more staff to be able to accommodate early check ins.
The room was very nice, although a little overpriced. Unfortunately, the tv had extremely limited channels (no news channels at all), microwave turntable didn’t rotate, air conditioner was very loud, and breakfast was a bagel and coffee. If you wanted a hot breakfast, you had to purchase it at the hikers cafe. It was simply reheated food. On a positive w, the lake is beautiful. I had a lovely morning walk.
Stone Lodge - We had the pleasure of staying there in early May 2021. It was so peaceful and quiet. The staff was friendly and cheerful throughout the day. We stayed in a room that overlooked the woods on the edge of Hessian Lake and it was so romantic and rustic at the same time. This is a great place if you need to get away and clear your head. We went off-season and it was quiet. If you go at the peak of summer season it will be more crowded but still worth it.
Came here for a quick getaway towards the end of summer. Beautiful, scenic and quiet. There’s a spa that looks wonderful, but make sure to book in advance; it seems like they’re quite booked/ popular. Everyone at the Inn was very friendly accommodating. Covid-19 regulations are in place and followed. The in is very clean. The all inclusive breakfast is very sparse, but there is a cafe which is open for hot breakfast. All in all, a great stay for a good price.
A great place to have a romantic trip away from city. Beautiful lake. Lots of things to do over there. The room was a little small. The mattress pad uplifted on the corner and there was a bunch of hairs, dirt, ect underneath on the bed, very disgusting. Other than that the room was spotless. I didnt like a shared mini fridge. Not enough room for my left overs. I recommend for a short trip.
We stayed at the Inn for one night. The suite had 2 tv, a livingroom. Large bathroom with plentiful towels. BYO shampoo and conditioner (not given enuf). No early check-in but staff friendly, efficient. Room had photos of Bear Mtn from years gone by. Furniture rustic. Quiet room on 3rd floor. 2 a/c units. We turned one off in bedroom and left livingroom one on. 11 am check out but on the early side. 1915 restaurant was nice for dinner. Service slow but friendly. Walk around lake lovely.
This place is a complete ripoff. We spent nearly $300 for one night, they stuck us in a tiny room in the stone lodge. It was awful. Smelled like mildew and was making me sick. I called the front desk, they were pleasant enough and they moved us to the Overlook lodge (the same name as the hotel in The Shining. And every bit as creepy and stomach turning). Overlook also needs a lot of work. Floors of the lobby in Overlook were all chipped. Management should repaint them or put down carpeting or tile. The stairwell was creepy and dirty - it needs a new paint job, the walls were filthy. The lights on the ceiling of the second floor hallway were filthy, filled with dirt and/or dead bugs. There was also clearly a leak and the ceiling itself wasn’t fixed after the leak. A hot mess. Our actual room seemed ok, except the desk chair was all ripped up and super dirty. I just don’t understand, it can’t cost much to even replace a desk chair? There was also a door in our room that led to another door that we couldn’t open. I was definitely nervous someone might come into the room in the middle of the night through that door. Never ever staying here again. Would give 0 stars if I could. NY’s very own Cecil Hotel. Don’t recommend.
I haven’t stay there but I just got off the phone with the most RUDE woman with a HUGE ego and attitude. Couldn’t be bothered answering my questions when she’s working on reservations. I’m sorry what? Isn’t your job to answer the phone and guests questions in regards to accommodations?! She then went off on me and raised her voice where I felt no other choice other than to hang up the phone and stop the brutal insults from this woman! This is the person they have representing their company! Wow. My goodness lady find a new job won’t you!
OK. Long and short of it all....whats changed about this iconic landmark is the fact since the State of NY turned over the inn into privatisation, well, theres the downfall. Big time.Still a beaucolic, charming and romantic setting with its Carousel, skating rink, Zoo and Hessian lake, you cant miss out as a State Park. What is disappointing is the Inn itself has turned a dark corner, not what it used to be, entertaining the general public as a real point of interest where one could spend an entire day enjoying what the State used to offer up; Winter festivals and Octoberfests, and more, it seems that with such History, rich in its heyday, has ghosted into a long lost novel. OH WELL. Times change...Not sure for the better.
You have to hike to Perkins tower! A nice workout for thighs and butt...haha.Theres lots to do there. The cabins has 6 private rooms so nice place for family or friends get together. The cabin we stayed in has shared space for the living/dining and the small kitchen are which consists of a microwave, small fridge. I personally feel the fridge should be in each room. It will be challenge if all sis rooms are filled at the same time with different strangers and each need to put something in there. Otherwise everything was OK. We made the best of everything and our neighbors were fine.Lots of outdoor activities including pool, basketball court, peddle boat, hiking, picnic areas, fishing (catch and release) etc
Beautiful Inn overlooking the mountains! You can see the ski lift and people skiing. There is a pretty lobby with a huge beautiful fireplace, they have a gym and a pool and a small outdoor seating area. The rooms are very nice, we had an attached room, one had a full kitchen and gas fireplace, the other had a small kitchenette. Both rooms had a couch, tv and queen sized beds. The water pressure was great! And the beds were so comfortable! There is a nice restaurant in the hotel and by the skiing area they have food and shops. There is a shuttle that takes you from the hotel to the skiing area for free. Overall great place to stay and ski!!
Way over crowded it took us 2 hours to park and the people there were disgusting throwing food bones everywhere. The staff was obnoxious to say the least. So disappointing. The music is so loud whats the point of trying to get away from the city ? This is not a tranquil place to be at peace with nature.
My husband and I got married here and this venue is horrible! Only reason why I am giving 2 stars is bc Alysa and Tracey are wonderful! This venue is so poorly run. Customer service is 0/10 . Absolutely no communication between anyone. You’re going to want to book it bc the views and the venue is stunning but it’s not worth the stress and tears!! Here’s what went wrong:1. They DOUBLE BOOKED my wedding date. Wanted me to change my date after I signed my contract and I hired all my vendors and made all deposits. Then they asked me “ if I just wanted to cancel my wedding ? “ Signing a contract means nothing to them. They hardly follow it. I had to sign about 5 contracts bc they kept making mistakes.2. I was allotted a certain amount of rooms for my guests that were WRITTEN AND SIGNED IN MY CONTRACT. Then they told me they gave those rooms away to the Saturday wedding. My ENTIRE family had to be moved to a different location.*** Originally they told us if we get married on a Friday we get these rooms allotted Thursday and Friday night BUT if we get married on Saturday, we will NOT be allotted these rooms Friday bc the Friday wedding gets dibs. Sooo we chose to get married Friday and they STILL gave our rooms away to the Saturday wedding.3. The front desk does not know how to function! They can not make reservations. I would have to call on behalf of my guests ALL THE TIME to fix issues. They also take days to return messages. They had my family under multiple room reservations when they only needed one room booked. Luckily they did not get charged for these extra rooms bc I kept on top of them.4. The day I checked in I was supposed to get the bridal suite in rm 315 and they told me they gave to the Saturday bride ! meanwhile my wedding was on Friday. Instead of giving me the large suite for Friday ( my wedding day) and then giving it to the Saturday bride on Saturday (her wedding day) they gave it to the Saturday bride Thursday ,Friday and Saturday ! And gave me the smaller suite after arguing with them for 2 hours.5. Valerie ( one of the wedding coordinators ) THREW AWAY MY WEDDING CAKE AND MY CAKE TOPPER THAT WAS PERSONALLY MADE on Etsy.Valerie, Gia, ( both wedding coordinators) and Saif (the GM ) are horrible. They did not help alleviate any issues. They did not care at all how many times I got screwed from them. Gia and Valerie will just stare at you while you’re making legitimate complaints and then they disappear and send someone else to try to fix the problem. Gias way of fixing the fact that they threw away my topper was “ oh we will let you pick out one from our gift shop” like what kind of answer is that? My topper cost me $60 and their stupid cheap statues were like $10 and none of them were actually wedding toppers just statues of bears.6. Our banquet captain was nice but don’t expect to see her through out the night. We saw her maybe twice. Once In the beginning and once at the end to collect her tip. Didn’t come up to us once to ask if there is something she can do for us. Every time we needed something we had to ask a server.***Alysa and Tracey were the only saving grace at that place and they both deserve to work somewhere better. Alysa my wedding coordinator is so lovely, organized and attentive. She is also prompt with emails. Tracey- who wasn’t even my coordinator is buying me a new topper and cake !! Gia sent Tracey after she didn’t want to help me. Gia went and hid in her office and sent Tracey to alleviate the issue which she did!
Rooms and hotel are extremely outdated. Looks like its forgotten and unkept. And customer service is audaciously rude. They changed our room to a tight, double full beds room which was apparently our upgrade from our Queen room, unbeknownst to us UNTIL we walked in, saw the room and called. Then they unapologetically informed us that our original room had a prob. These photos are just of the bathroom. It gets worse. Dont waste your money.
To the manager of the gift shop: When I walked in to your shop, there was no sign saying I needed to have a mask. I am vaccinated. I had been hiking and did not have one. When I was told to put on a mask, I said I didnt have one and asked if there was one available. I was told I could purchase one for $1. So congratulations. The $50 purchase that I was going to make did not get made because I was not going to give you $1 for a 20¢ mask so I can then purchase something from you. Thank you for saving me from my from my impulse buy!
Never regret staying in Bear mountain inn. Staff are warm and nice. They just started in person breakfast which I believe they keep all food and drinks fresh and clean. Also, the manager checks in with me every morning to see if anything will be needed for our room. Very thoughtful. Great experience for my children to enjoy the hike and swimming pool!
Stayed at the Inn over the weekend. It was beautiful! The room was clean and spacious. Darren at the front desk was extremely friendly and helpful, even walking to the elevator and pushing the buttons (remembering which floor I was on) because my hands were full. The restaurant was still closed, but they provide a list of restaurants that deliver, including one that delivers breakfast. Would definitely stay again!
I recently photographed a wedding at the Bear Mountain Carousel and it was wonderful! They kept to the COVID regulations but it was still beautiful and fun and the food was delicious! The carousel is great for photos and was a good alternative to dancing. Its a pretty big space with lots of parking and its great that guests can stay at the Inn after!
Great prices, nice sized room, bathrooms were very clean. We even got a healthcare worker discount and a sizable discount because the fire alarm rang in the middle of the night. We have a toddler, so seeing firemen was the highlight of his trip. But they were so efficient getting things back to normal that we were really impressed. The location is beautiful. Bring a good pair of hiking shoes, and a ball or kite or other outdoor things if you stay here because there are beautiful green spaces and hikes.
What a beautiful place to stay! The staff was friendly and helpful. The inn was sanitized and clean and a clean fresh smell throughout. The help at the front desk were A++ and made sure everything was perfect. This was my first time there and i will be bringing all my family asap! Fantastic!!!
The rooms are a little small there was no refrigerator in the room do you have to share a refrigerator with three of the rooms which is uncomfortable when two people in one room take the whole refrigerator with their food. The front desk was helpful for pointing out restaurants because the restaurant was closed. I wasn’t expecting a five star hotel but we were a bit disappointed.
My husband and I spent one night at the inn to get a change of scenery and out of the city for a little bit! We loved every moment and had a wonderful weekend...we hiked to the tippy top of the mountain, enjoyed the Trailside Museum and Zoo, and went ice skating before departing. The restaurant at the inn is closed, but we ordered food and picked it up from a restaurant that is only a 5 minute drive away. Highly recommend!
Inn was clean, comfortable and nice size. Stood in a king size room with 2 adults and 2 children (we shared the bed) with a small cottage like window view to the great lawn. If you love the smell of the spa, the 3rd floor is for you as you pass it off the elevator. Its soothing scent. During this unprecedented time, a clean room is a must and the inn didnt disappoint.
Such a shame, the park is beautiful and the view from our room of the lake and Hudson River at the Overlook Inn was amazing but the service was terrible. The lobby was shabby with ripped chairs and overall neglected. There was no one to attend to the big fireplace which would have been so nice if it was actually lit by someone. The supposed grab and go breakfast was abysmal. By the time we got there at 930, everything was gone even though they were supposed to have food until 10. I was basically told we were too late, really?! For the $200+ we spent for the night I did expect more. If they happen to spruce it up, and give it the love and attention it needs, I would consider returning but until then I will find somewhere else to stay. Somewhere that has actual food at breakfast and a staff to attend the place.
Overpriced, practically unattended hotel. It has so much potential but the hotel is not kept up, the place looks and is dirty. Stains on our carpet, view out of our room was septic tanks. Room was musty and smelled dirty. The hotel is on a state park that is not well maintained. Garbage all over the place. We paid almost 400 dollars for a special package that promised chocolate covered strawberries and instead got a bag of malt balls. Feel like I need 20 showers after leaving this place.
Beautiful place and scenery. For the price you should not have to park in the day use parking lot and walk a long distance. To the inn. There should be a drive to the lodge and cottages without going out on the highway and around a dangerous circle every time you want to return to the main area. And the dining room was empty save for a table of tenladies who talked in loud voices about breastfeeding, penne pasta, places they wanted to see across the river and anything punctuated by cackles and seal clapping. People sat in the bar area or outside with the bugs. The food was high priced but good. We couldnt enjoy it so we escaped with it to our rooms. Even though people left when they heard the noise nothing was done. Asked the waitress to ask them to quiet but she didnt. Want should have been a relaxing, pleasant experience was anything but. Talked about going there for twenty years was very disappointed.
Great place to stay. I only give it three stars because the interiors still need a bit of updating. Rooms were very nice though and I’d definitely stay again. There’s three types of rentals. Check the website to see which is right for you. We stayed at the main inn that has the restaurant and spa. There is a huge fireplace but it was not lit in October. It’s right at foot of the mountain and if you want to go do long challenging hikes you will have a beautiful room to rest in afterwards. The restaurant and bar service was good. Plus they have a small cafe, but we didn’t try it. There is also a spa if you want to treat yourself to a special day of relaxation between hiking days. The hiking paths provide something for beginners as well as those looking for a bit more rugged terrain. There’s a swimming pool and carousel for family folks. And plenty of more trails at nearby parks. The inn, restaurant, and other areas appeared wheelchair accessible. Credit and debit were accepted.
The staff was very helpful answering all of my questions from hiking trails to local restaurants to the new covid protocols. During my 5 day stay the cleanliness was consistent, very spacious, social distancing and overall compliance with the new rules were enforced and in a very pleasant way. Quiet modern lodge rooms. Perfect location for a quick getaway which includes activities for the kids and a spa for the moms. Definitely coming back for another stay.
We went there with a couple of friends and totally enjoyed it! The hotel has a very rustic decor, the headboards of the beds were all made of natural carved wood. We got to the top of the mountain in about two hours, the views were spectacular, with all the fall colors. If you want to save on food, there is a village with several supermarkets at about 20 min drive that have lots of cooked food, like bbq ribs, whole roasted chickens, salads, etc.Overall it was a very relaxing trip and a nice getaway from the noisy city.
Well, once again we had a great and relaxing time here. The Spa massages were excellent! Therapists were extremely knowledgeable and informative when it came to my osteoarthritis. I was recommended vitamins and was educated on what to do to ease pain. The restaurant is great, with friendly staff and great food!. The area is great for hiking and just enjoying the lake. I love this place.
The inn is so gorgeous, its in a beautiful area and theres lots to do both in the lodge and around the surrounding city. The staffing is wonderful, the rooms are clean and heated well, and no room is without a great view. Being right at the foot of Bear Mountain and just uphill of the Houston River, its the perfect place for a getaway any time of year.
Great place if youre in the area and need a really nice & cool place to sit in for a bit. Ive never stayed overnight or had dinner here but I have been here for the beer fest/ Oktoberfest that was terrific! The lake, lawns, picnic areas, zoo, carousel & pools here get incredibly crowded on weekends especially in the summer season. I can only imagine what an AT (Appalachian Trail) thru hiker or section hiker must think of they happened through here on a summer weekend😣)
I stayed at the Stone Cottages at Bear Mountain state park following my daughters sweet 16 party.. beautiful peaceful surrounding after a fun night. Rustic on the outside but accommodations very comfortable and décor just right for the space beautiful view overlooking Hessian Lake. One queen bed per room no rollaways (no room for them) private bath/shower, shared lounge space and microwave in front of massive fireplace. We began our morning with a nice walk around the Lake then had brunch at the 1915 restaurant. Overall a great experience. Staff very friendly and considerate. Will stay again just for fun.
Really pretty place with exactly the look youre thinking it has. Staff was very nice. Ordering food for delivery was fairly simple but not as good as having food on location. We didnt have a car on our visit either. We were also surprised by, but understanding, that the room was not cleaned or serviced during our stay. The take out trash built up quickly. Come prepared during these covid times for a little extra work on your end.The location cant be beat. The lake side lodge is right at the foot of the mountain with many trails to choose from, just a short walk from the front door. Best of all, every way you look is a beautiful view.
So close to new york city but still very alien. The rooms are very clean and the beds are comfortable. We had dinner the evening we came in with the kids. The food was very well prepared and the service we received was very good. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to get out to leave the city behind.. even for a day or two.
I recently dined at the Bear Mountain Inns restaurant 1915. The restaurant features American cuisine that tastes fabulous! I had the hanger steak with spinach, mushrooms and mashed potatoes while my Dad had the halibut with clams and fingerling potatoes. The hanger steak was as tender as a filet, quite surprising! Everything was perfectly seasoned and this is a place Id definitely return to for savory food. The ambience in the main dining room was stunning. We ate outdoors as the weather was nice. The outdoor section is nice, but the views of the unmaintained grassy area enclosed by a wire fence isnt so. However, we were overlooking the lake at the park. As for service, its also okay to good. Our waitress was extremely kind and helpful, but she didnt check in on us as frequently as wed had wished. All in all, the food and ambience is well worth visiting this restaurant. Its a great option for a special occasion.
This place is beautiful to visit even in winters. The place was quite cold when we went in December, but bearable. I would suggest taking a thick coat and gloves. It has all the amenities nearby the trekking mountain - there is a snack bar where you get bars, ice cream etc. There is a restaurant where you can eat good food. There is even an ice skating rank which is I feel is the highlight of the area. You can pay just $10 and skate there for 1 hour and 30 minutes. I would say pretty good deal. The trail itself takes about 2 hours. Had a wonderful time!
Beautiful scenery. I visited this place once for a picnic with some friends and family. I had a great time, alittle crowded of coarse but its nice because they dont let anyone else in beyond capacity. The day I went we enjoyed the pool and different vendors. They also had a Mary go round and paddle boats. Everyone had their own picnic stations, and though you were next to another family....it was nice and everyone was respectful of each others space. I would go again, but maybe this time stay a weekend. They have a lodge and other accommodations and activities. It was nice and relaxing. Just remember safety precautions against the sun, bugs or water events.
The overlook lodge is outdated and way overpriced. Better off staying at the Inn for much less and nicer rooms. The staff our decent, but there are so many tourists coming in and out of the Inn who arent actual guests that they never treat you as good as other hotels will. The food at the restaurant was good, but the bar service for ordering drinks was quite possibly the worst Ive ever experienced. Its simply out of convenience to eat there. It is beautiful there, but everything on the grounds is extremely overpriced.
Stopped at the Inn on my way down to the city. What an amazing place! The staff were so friendly and helpful. The inn itself is amazing. It has the feel of the great WPA era. A time when our government engaged in great public works. I got in a little after the restaurant closed but they made me a delicious hamburger and fries. The wine list was solid. The dining room was a delight. I’m so happy to learn that a place like this exists! And it’s reasonably priced too! Highly recommend!!
This was perhaps extraordinary circumstances, however, we stopped by the Inn during an Oktoberfest festivities weekend. Before we ate, they informed us there was a fixed price for the buffet. No problem. But considering we served ourselves, it was a shock when there was a 20% gratuity charge for two of us. The table wasnt set when we arrived and we had one visit from a server, so to add a service charge seemed excessive. On top of that, this is near/in Bear Hill State Park, and we were dismayed that they served drinks (water and beer) in plastic cups. Again, this may have been out of the ordinary circumstances, but this seems like a bad business practice if state parks encourage us to think and act with conservation and sustainability.
My wife and I went there with two very good friends for Valentines Day Brunch.Staff was Excellent and Service was Excellent. The Buffet was fantastic with many breakfast and look lunch choices. On top of that...the Atmosphere was really nice. Very Rustic and Grand.Huge walk-in gated fireplace. Also very cool gift shop downstairs.
I had lunch in the cafeteria with cousin and her two year old. The inn is easily accessible to Hessian Lake and hiking trails, as well as the carousel and skating rink. The building is very rustic looking, and was not too crowded on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. The atmosphere was wonderful, with families and hikers quietly walking about. The food was mediocre. The Philly cheese steak seemed to lack cheese and the fries were dry. The grilled chicken was replaced by fried chicken without confirmation that it was okay. On the other hand, the service was friendly.
The room was very spacious and clean. Their is only one tiny window and my husband hit his head on the ceiling leading to the window. Lol.. he is clusmy. The staff was very courteous. We had dinner off site and when we came back the bar was closed but the bartender was nice enough to still serve us a drink to take to our room. We did a 1200 ft hike in the morning, so the stay was well worth it.
We had dinner at the 1915 restaurant. Nice menu and the food was excellent, but very pricey. I had the bib lettuce with poached pears; excellent, but for the price they should have tripled the size so that it could be split or cut the price in half. The lamb chops were perfect and a nice combination of flavors. The ambiance did not make it for me. The main dining room and fireplace is such a beautiful and impressive room with so much potential, but the execution on all of the renovations around it are not up to this same standard. For example, tables and chairs are standard cafeteria; the bar is un-impressive; hostess desk is under office lights; background music was background noise; etc. Minimal holiday decorations! Should have had a festive 20’ tree in the room! Staff was friendly but a little disorganized. Lovely evening so we took a stroll through the park to the merry-go-round and skating rink. This could be such a fantastic destination and dining experience – I hope they make improvements and then drop the price a little. It would not take much to make this a 5 star.
We were a party of 12 there for a Thanksgiving dinner. It was buffet style with bloody Marys and mimosas included. The food was excellent, if you like a buffet experience. Desserts were mediocre, service was not as good as the last time we were there. Tough to get table bussed, refills of water and other beverages. Its a picturesque venue that has done better in the past and for those reasons wed still give it another try.
I wanted to take my grandchildren to the carousel and knew that we had 20 minutes left before closing and as we were approaching the carousel they closed it early. Big disappointment to my grandchildren! 😐😐Especially when we just paid $20.00 for parking and the booth closed and still charged us full price!😐 The bright spot was meeting William at the Bear Mountain inn and he reinbursed us for the parking and let the kids pick out a snack at the cafe and assured us when we would return next time the kids would get a free ride on the carousel 😁 Thank you William for saving the day!😁
We were visiting the area for six days before heading to New Rochelle for a wedding. Our family had moved away from this area a little over 40 years ago. We used the Bear Mountain Inn as our base location We then went out visiting and site seeing each day. The Inn and Park brought back many old memories. The Inn has been remodeled and up-dated , but still retains all of its charm. We found the staff to be very friendly and professional. The food was very good. We really enjoyed the continental breakfast each morning. We would like to give a shout to Dorothy. She was our Breakfast greeter each morning, and in short time became our friend. Also a shout out to Alicia. When ever I had a question she was always there. So thanks again for making our stay a most memorable experience. As a side note , if you are a car nut then you need to check out the car cruise in each Wednesday night (6:00 pm to 9:00 pm), its awesome.
This review is just for the 19/15 restaurant on the second floor. Gorgeous space! Rustic Cabin style architecture with a modern flourish. Great patio section. Wings were local and delicious and there were just enough. Caesar salad was great too! Great cocktails! Responsive and friendly staff. Will be back soon!
Food superb! Service..couldnt ask for better! Sat in front of huge fireplace in January..perfect with a glass of wine and a good friend for lunch.Also..it didnt get too warm because they have fans above that kick on if it gets too warm..amazing! They thought of everything!
Stayed at the Overlook Lodge; loved it! Ended up canceling the booking through a third party and got a better rate directly-- and be sure to check in at the inn before heading over to the Overlook! The room was clean and charming with amenities to spare. The view over Hessian Lake was spectacular! I highly recommend this for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts. Three does hung around the area throughout our stay, and Im sure wed have seen a lot more wildlife if we stayed longer.
I am posting mainly for the food and ambience of this rustic inn and the environs. The service was very good and we enjoyed the simple hamburger and fries as we were on a tight schedule. I did note that the menu’s offerings go the whole gambit from finger food to a complete meal. The hamburger that we ordered was perfect and we were all pleased. Now I wish to comment on the atmosphere. What a dining hall! It is like something out of the early last century. If you want to be carried back to the elegant mountain retreats that Teddy, the rough rider, would have visited this is the place to go. I always feel that the venue is an important part of the meal experience. This is an impressive inn that has survived because it has those qualities that make you wish to experience it again. Go there relax, enjoy the spa, have an enjoyable dinner and stay overnight. You will never forget the place and it has the added bonus of being authentic. Treat yourself and family. There is also the zoo, jungle gym, ice skating rink in season and hiking trails, both relaxing and rigorous, to add to the memories of your visit! Also a large parking lot is very convenient and I believe there is a fee at the entrance but do not know how much. We visited on Thanksgiving Day so there was not fee. That is why I do not have that information. At the same time the zoo was closed that day and on Christmas Day.
My wife and I visited the park pre-COVID and thought that the inn would be a great place for an overnight stay. We finally got the chance this week, and we were not disappointed. Don’t know why the restaurant is still not open since others in the area are, but Cold Spring is a short drive north and was a great place to dine (We had a nice dinner at Brassiere Le Bouchon.) before our show at the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival. The inn was well-appointed; clean; very comfortable; the staff, hospitable; and well-situated: great location for a morning walk around the lake or a visit to the nature trail and zoo. We didn’t get a chance to use the spa, but will definitely book it in advance for our next visit.
We stayed at the cabins and the conditions were less than ideal. The front door to the common area had no lock and when we arrived the cabin was 48°F. I understand these were cabins and it wasnt supposed to be luxurious or anything, but for the price youd expect there to be a little more care. To be fair, they did text us to ask if we needed anything so I should have made these complaints clear during the stay.
Great place for a wedding or just hanging with the family. My only concern was the lack of cell signal. This got me lost during my brothers’s wedding and I couldn’t even call anyone or use the GPS! How are wedding parties supposed to communicate of there’s no service ?!
I passed by Bear mountain inn and overlook Lodge but I did not actually go in there well except to go into the gift shop. It reminded me of swedish Lodge is a lot of wood and dont get me wrong its a beautiful in but maybe they logged it from all the wood around there. I went into the gift shop looking around it was lovely their architecture of the place was lovely and then I walked out and went to the pool of course after making a purchase.
When booking, make sure you get a room at the main lodge. I originally had a room at their overlook lodge. It looked like old military housing and was very musky. Didnt feel safe there at all with my daughter. We called and the front desk was EXTREMELY accommodating and moved us right to their main lodge with no extra charge. The main lodge is beautiful and what I had expected for our stay. Everything else was great but just make sure you book at their main lodge.
Stayed at the upper lodge for Christmas. They rented out the lower reception room for a wedding that went on all night long with the loudest DJ music. No one could sleep. I swore I’d never come back, even though the scenery and hiking are excellent. Now, here we are again on Mother’s Day weekend. So many people all the parking lots are full. Went to the cafe to get take out food. One poor harried person at the counter and only one cook in the kitchen. All the Grab and Go menu was not available so the choice was Hot Dog, hamburger, chicken tenders, and fries! 20 minute wait. Long lines of dissatisfied customers. The wait staff told that they never hire extra until summer but this happens every year. The state should take away the concession. This place is terribly managed.
Attended a wedding at the Bear Mountain Inn. Carly and Gloria took excellent care of our table, they were extremely attentive and very friendly. The meal was outstanding and the facility was amazing. Hubby and I had a great time. Were staying at the lodge, which is rustic and very comfortable. All in all, a great weekend!
It is a beautiful, rustic looking Inn with a lot of parking. This place looks beautiful from the outside at dark. Tried the pizza here once, it was just meh, nothing to write about. The place is perfect for a night stay, but try and get your own food. If you not driving, there is a bus service from Port authority during the morning and back in the evening, pretty convenient.
This venue for a Wedding was spectacular... The food was amazing... The staff were so pleasant.. just an over all wonderful time.. the hall was wheelchair accessible and there was plenty of space in the bathroom with my power chair. I wish I had booked a room early on so I could have enjoyed it longer... I would love to go back and spend a weekend.
The room was very clean; the host at the front desk very accommodating to our requests and needs during our stay for our wedding anniversary. We had a very nice first visit here and recommend to come out and explore the park and stay at the Bear Mountain Inn. Larry & Stacie
Room was nice. Internet was not good. Room was late to be ready...supposed to be 3:00, was 3:30. Support was pleasant. We were married here and it was an awesome reception. Rent the overlook (yr 2000). The 1915 restaurant was way over priced and over rated. No dinner menu?!? Saw it online, but not when we went to eat! Served only from the lunch menu?!? Food was ehh...definitely not dinner, definitely not happy. Too much $$, not enough delivery.
We stay at Bear Mountain every year for the last weekend of Oktoberfest, which coincides with my wifes birthday. It is difficult to find a room (especially at the inn) during wedding season. Every year we have some issue, either with the room or booking, but the staff has always been very friendly and helpful with resolving the issues. The rooms at the inn are modern, spacious, and relatively well kept up. That said, you definitely pay for the time of year and location. The complimentary breakfast is nice, there are always eggs and meat of some kind, pastries, breads, hot coffee, juice. We come to Bear Mountain to get away from the city, enjoy the trails and nature, and Oktoberfest. We stay at the inn when we can, the lodge and cabins on site are not quite as nice but certainly adequate as well.
We stayed at the Overlook lodge for a few nights. It was comfortable although pretty dated. We never ate at the lodge because its outrageously overpriced even for a vacation. $20 cheeseburgers and $40 entrees which is just absurd considering the rest of the hotel accommodations are so average.
I took my family for the hiking trail to the tower... Wow its was amazing. 100% safe. Fairly intense hike. The view from the top is absolutely amazing. The inn staff was amazing and helpful throughout the park. We werent able to do everything offered but will definitely be going back.
We stopped by at the Bear Mountain Inn for a brunch before our hike on the Bear Mountain. The food was great and the price was amazing for the kind of selection that was offered in the buffet. The folks that were waiting on us were extremely polite and made us feel welcome. The folks that welcomed us as we walked in could use a little more hospitality.
*Went there for a wedding*Room was okay. Typically would go here to disconnect from technology due to an event or hike but would be nice to still have access to it. TV almost never worked due to signal loss, the WiFi and cellphone service was spotty and slow at the Inn. A little difficult to book the room. Others in my party had trouble keeping their reservations/rooms. Service at the restaurant was extremely slow. Dont come here hungry because it will be a while before any food hits the table. Food was okay but portions seemed a little small to me. Dont expect much from the breakfast either.Redeeming features were the bar and the surrounding area. Nice views and trails.
I wasnt a guest at the hotel, just visited the restaurant for a drink and a snack while passing through.I was terribly unimpressed.I had passed through a year or so ago and had a quite a good time, little did I know that was not the norm. The service was woefully inadequate dealing with the handful of guests they had during my 60 minute visit. The way the staff responded during trivial issues like, Wheres my water, Can I pay my bill, Id like to order, Theres still no towels in the ladies washroom, and Can I be seated now showed strain I didnt think was possible at such a small establishment.I wanted to stay, if only to listen to the carnival of poor service I was witnessing but had to retire to the rest of my trip.It will be remembered, but not well. I thoroughly do not recommend this restaurant.Maybe the rooms are nice.
Stopped here for a one night stay. Arrived around 5pm and checked in immediately. We were given a room at the Beaver Lodge. We didnt know that our room was one of the 6 rooms or so in the lodge sharing a common seating area. Room a little too tiny for the price we paid. The check-in area as well as restaurants were a 2 - 3 min drive from Beaver Lodge. I think families taking all rooms will have a better experience than having to share with strangers. The area around is beautiful even during this time of the year. It must be even more beautiful during the summer.
Enjoyed my stay. Room was clean and comfortable. Government employee discount saved a lot of money - take advantage if you are eligible. Its right next to the Appalachian Trail and other hiking trails, along with beautiful scenery.Other thoughts on my stay: the continental breakfast was good. Restaurant 1915 made good drinks and the bartender was really friendly, altough the entrees we got were nothing to write home about - dried out and overpriced. Overall I still give Bear Mountain Inn a 5/5.
Was at the venue for a wedding. The location is very pretty and the lodge is well-done. Wedding food was very tasty and well-plated. Didnt stay at the hotel so I cannot vouch for that. My only complaint is about the brunch -- we were were invited to the brunch but were unable to stay at their hotel due to overbooking and still had to pay $10 to park in the lot. It was ridiculous!
After a great hike, my girlfriend, our mutual friend, and myself stopped at the Inn to have a drink at the upstairs bar. We had bloody Marys and mimosas. Service and drinks were fantastic and the ambience was beautiful. We definitely look forward to going back again and enjoying the spring season.
The place is made to match with the environment being in the Bear Mt. State park. Rustic look and it is nice and cozy. The room was clean, neat, and comfortable. One complain is there was a door between our room and next room and we could hear people chatting in the next room prrtty laud. I wish they were more considerable to spread different customers away from each other since there werent so many customers...
I visited the Bear Mountain Inn for Oktoberfest which is hosted by them. The lodge itself is beautiful, makes you feel like youre in the rustic outdoors (which you are!) The views all around are beautiful, including the historic carousel and nearby lake. Oktoberfest was amazing, with food, music and dancing. I highly recommend!
I like to go with friends to this restaurant with my highest recommendations. I go their often. I get very good feedback from my friends. The the food there is tasty and the team is attentive and cooperative. Every time we eat in this place we enjoy a pleasing evening. I warmly recommend this restaurant.
We ate at 1915 food was fantastic, there is a kids menu that isnt on the menu. My party had the steak and it was cooked as requested. The service is good and prompt. Overall well worth visiting. The prices are good kids hotdog and fries $5, the adult steak and fries $18.
Popular destination on weekends around the lake, so arrive early if you want to snag a picnic table or even a parking spot. Lots of space on the field in front of the inn though but no shade. The inn itself is a lovely building with a rustic log home feel with refreshments and AC.
The rooms were nice and warm, which was such an upside considering Ive been to some hotels that barely offer heat. Its extremely dark in the night, so to get to the Inn from the Lodges was a bit creepy and can be hazardous, but it makes sense to limit the light because the night sky was absolutely gorgeous. It is very limited in activities on Fridays, and it feels a little forced that the Inn is the only source of food... But overall, it was fun.
Had lunch here this July. I had cold gazpacho and Cuban sandwich. The gazpacho was nice. The sandwich, however, left much to be desired. It lacked any real flavor, almost tasteless.my companion had grilled chicken sandwich. The chicken was tough and dry and lacked any seasoning whatsoever.the service staff was, however, extremely attentive and nice. It is not their fault that the food is not up to the mark.
Got married at the carousel - staff is super friendly and helpful, food was great, prices were very reasonable, and the built in decor made setup a lot easier than expected. During the day (when everything is for public use), the trails and lake areas are kept fairly clean and are good for hiking (with different trails for different difficulty levels).
Stayed at the Overlook Lodge for a wedding down at the inn. The value for your money just isnt here. Paper thin walls (bring a fan or something to pump out white noise), horrendous Wifi, and older rooms (especially the bathrooms) will make you wonder just how on earth it costs so much to stay here, even if its at a mountain. My biggest gripe is the lack of shuttle between Bear Mountain Inn and The Overlook Lodge. If they were separate businesses I wouldnt say a word about that, but theyre not. Theyre the same and youll find the trails to lodging outside the inn stop at the Stone Cottages, leaving you with another half mile up an unlit narrow winding road. This becomes incredibly dangerous for you once the sun goes down as its pitch black. This wasnt just me that was taken back by the lack of means to get from the Overlook to the Inn, almost everyone in the Overlook was with the wedding and everyone of us had no idea that it wasnt easy to get to and from. The front desk suggested for me to keep my phone charged for the flashlight. If youre charging me over $200 a night, and $8+ for a beer at your bar, you can afford a shuttle.
Stopped in to the resturaunt at Bear Mountain before hiking up the AT to the summit. The menu is limited for lunch but there is enough variety to satisfy. The staff was extremely friendly. The resturaunt was clean and quiet, even with the rush of people out for the day. The food came out quick and was great. The gazpacho in particular was really good.
A wedding fiasco Our wedding coordinator forgot to mention that in front of our beautiful venue (at 160.00 per person )would be a 40ft. storage container. O Yes! A backhoe and a construction crew working on the roof!!! Just what every mom wants their only daughters day to have! I cannot express the heartbreak and disappointment in the lack of disclosure, we were not at all prepared. Unprofessional does not come close to describe how mismanaged this event was. After the coordinator finally showed up for a meeting (20 minutes late). She did go into action to have it removed, which happened 2 hours before our event was about to take place. The people who were supposed to receive the stress completely compounded it. Then instead of being helpful to decorate and set up, put the table cloths on and left. Precious moments lost as the mother of the bride was left to do all the decorating. Hundreds of dollars of flowers and hand made glassware did not make it to the tables. To the point were our site fee was refunded and rooms comped. I still cannot look at pictures or look back on this event with beautiful memories. The food was delicious, the ceremony beautiful and the merry go round was enjoyed by all the guests. A gracious hostess always ensures her guests are happy no matter the circumstances. Total disappointment on what was supposed to be one of the best days of our lives.
I booked a meeting for my agency at Bear Mountain, and was thoroughly displease with the service.Pros: Beds and pillow in the Stone Cottage were comfortable, and attendees said they all slept really well.Cons: Where to begin? At check-in, after being told she would be shown to the meeting space in a minute, the man working the front desk proceeded to help 5 other people checking in first. Then she was brought to the ballroom where the meeting wasnt scheduled to be held. At that time, she was taken to a room off the ballroom which wasnt even set up, let alone set up how we had instructed it to be. No water on the tables, no standard pens and scratch pads. At lunch, the service was very slow and 2/3rds of the way through her burger, my manager found a quarter sized chunk of mold in the bun. The exec chef came out to apologize, but made excuses rather than taking responsibility. Dinner service was even worse, with one attendees appetizer arriving to the table before the groups drink did. For the record, it took 28 minutes for the drink to be delivered, which was after order them after sitting at the table for 20 minutes before even being acknowledged. When everyone had finished eating, it took another 20 minutes to get the check.I would encourage anyone looking to hold a business meeting make another choice.
Bear Mountain Inn is a perennial favorite of mine. Such a beautiful rustic decor, with the stone fireplaces and wood beams, beautifully redone. We went here for what was the fourth or fifth time for breakfast with Santa. It sells out every year! Santa Claus is very genteel, stately, patient and kind. He has a real beard and even as an adult, I almost believe there is a Santa Claus and this is him!You cant beat the setting of Bear Mountain Inn or the decor. The service staff during the breakfast with Santa were also top notch. I always love visiting the gift shop as well, great selection.
Bear Mountain Inn restaurant... food was not good! My family and I went for lunch while spending the day at the park. We had cold, bland corn chowder, and very tough steak. I couldnt even chew it. However, the fries and cheese quesadillas and the tarragon salad were delicious.Service stunk! We waited 20 min for drinks. Our dirty plates sat on the table until we left. I have 2 small boys and there was no room on the table. It took our waitress 9 minutes just to greet us at our table. Food was brought out and not even once did she check on us. I had to get up and find extra napkins myself.
The inn is very beautiful, but not without its flaws. Some of the staff is excellent and accomodating, while others need to be more aware of their attitudes towards their customers. They also could do with having more staff on hand, perhaps that would help the the poor attitudes of some of their staff. The rooms were nice and spacious with very nice bathrooms and large showers, however the heating system and television are incredibly difficult to work. The front desk is difficult to get ahold of (ie our room was nearly 95 degrees and I couldnt get in touch with the staff, so I had to go down to the front desk.) Our room was close to elevator and everyone, including the staff, was very loud and made it difficult to sleep. The grounds could use some upkeep and should be cleaned more frequently. I would consider staying there again if these changes were made.
The room was very nice, but the surrounding area is always packed with visitors of the state park. In addition, there is no room service and the receptionists seemed to hate their jobs... When people stay at a hotel, they usually want to see relative happy and helpful staff...
Lovely setting, dinner at restaurant was pleasant. We overnighted in one of the cabin rooms, it was a bit cramped, our door was exceedingly stiff and the sound from neighbouring guest bathrooms and banging doors a little too much the walls must be deviod of soundproofing.
Love to cycle?? Come to bear mountain. A challenging climb that can be done in succession on nice roads that are lightly traveled by motorists. Be sure to check out other areas within the state park as there are other great challenging roads that again are shared with motorists but lightly travelled so it is not unsafe. Parking at near mountain will cost you 10 dollars and there are plenty of other things to do to put in a day.
They cancelled the reservation on the day of the visit!! The roads to the lodge was closed, little guidance and explanation from the staff. We drove 3 hours to have the inn cancel on us last minute with no discount or any promotion to make up for it. Would NOT recommend due to bad customer service.
The Overlook Lodge is located across the lake from the Bear Mountain Inn, about a mile walk. The room was clean and the air conditioning was running when we arrived. The hotel staff was friendly and an excellent hot breakfast was provided as part of the room fee (the breakfast is at the inn). Would stay again.
Our wedding ceremony and reception was held at Bear Mountain Inn. We worked with Valerie who is the on-site Coordinator for the venue. Valerie was a complete treasure to work with. She was extremely kind, helpful and communicative throughout the planning process. She gave us great thoughts and insights. The day before and day of our wedding she was a Rockstar. When we would become flustered or overwhelmed she was there to help us think things through and she even found my husbands glasses when he misplaced them! We also had the pleasure of working with Mina, Gia, and Antionette who also are gems!! The ceremony was beautiful, the cocktail hour and reception was equally gorgeous. The food was delicious and the plating was beautiful. Our guests and ourselves included truly had a wonderful experience and were left with memories that will last us a lifetime! We truly have no words other than Bear Mountain Inn, their staff and Valerie are exceptional!
My wife and I had an awesome time here. We found it on our way to Anthonys nose and got surprise by the great service and attentive staff specially William which is one of the most awesome persons weve ever met!The location is beautiful and food was pretty great! Will definitely be back soon.
We went to 1915 restaurant. The service was poor and took an abnormally long amount of time to even get a refill on our drinks. The food was fatty and poorly cooked. I understand the limited menu for holidays to help streamline the guests but the choices you do have should be top notch and some of your strongest dishes. This is the last time we will give our business to this restaurant as the last two times have been unpleasant and unsatisfying.
Beautiful Staff and Rooms are Nice!!! The Staff is so helpful and absolutely AMAZING!!! Especially William, Darren, Chris!!! They are plenty of other staff that helped me to, I just forgot their names. They restuarant and bar are nice and have great views and awesome food! Definetly a place to come to! Thank you to you all for all the help you have given me to make my stay amazing!
We went in for some drinks after some hiking and photography, and our hostess, Teresa, (besides being helpful with suggestions for drinks) was kind enough to let us know the celestial sights afforded by the lighting conditions in the region, as well as the locations of nearby observatories. We had chicken and fries as well. We liked the food, drinks, and the service.
One star for beautiful dining room. Food was cold, under seasoned. Staff was nice about our concern and offered to reheat all four dinners...we declined. It was nice to offer us free dessert for table. We ordered and the dessert was visually nice but chocolate flourless cake was dry and old . Creame brulie was ok at best, seved in a small cereal bowl. Got our coffees and they were cold and old... Waiter said he saw steam coming from pot. I stuck my finger in coffees and he got us fresh coffees. While talking with our friends the staff was setting up for next day brunch..they were loud and kept looking our way ... We felt uncomfortable and left.....need I say more.....
The reservation person I spoke with (Chris) was rude and not helpful, I asked about availability for a dog friendly room - he quoted a price, and asked if I wanted to reserve it, without giving me any information about the kind of room, number of beds etc. When I checked on their website, I saw a spa package rate that was cheaper than what he had quoted, I enquired to see if my small support dog could accompany me to the spa, and he said I dont know, youll have to ask them. That was it, no help about transferring me to the spa to ask them, let alone him asking them for me. When I did ask if he could transfer me to the spa, he did so, and then the lady at the spa was equally rude with a condescending attitude. I decided not to book, despite the reasonable rates, because of this unwelcoming experience.
Bear Mountain State park is a wonderful place to spend a couple of days and enjoy the nature. Lodge cottages are quite comfortable however want to share some negative sides. Our window was looking out to the side of the house and there was some piece of big pipe sticking from the ground. Apparently the visitors took it for the garbage can. I asked the front desk to send someone to clean it up but it was not done. So for three days we had our curtains down because we didnt want to have this great view of the overloaded trash can.
My wife and I had a lovely ride up to Bear Mountain from our home in Westchester. It was ruined when we decided to eat at the 1915 restaurant at the Bear Mountain Inn. The staff was non attentive, we had to constantly ask for, cutlery, napkins and if we could place our order. The food was so disappointing we couldnt wait to get out of there, there was another problem, we couldnt get anyone to give us the bill. When we did get the bill, it took forever to get someone to run the bill with my credit card. We ended up leaving cash, with a very small tip. Save your money and time, dont go.
The food and drinks were fantastic. Highly recommend sampling one or two of their cocktails and grabbing a bite at the restaurant (I had the meatloaf stuffed with mac-and-cheese; my partner had the polenta—both were excellent). Youll need the extra calories to conquer the trails and take in some of the stunning views. Best part, its only about an hour outside of the city and accessible via MetroNorth if you take a cab from Peekskill.
Stayed at the cabin overlook lodge this February. I had an excellent view of the Hessian Lake. Its still Winter at the moment, so the lake was frozen and all the trees were naked, providing unique winter scenery for us amateur photographers. Excellent trails including one that leads to a short section of the Appalachian Trail. A tiny zoo is also a short hike away from lodge. My room was simple and nature themed. Surprising to see the many cool amenities at your disposal, from an iron/ironing board, Keurig coffee maker with a selection of coffees and teas, bottled water, to ample towels and soaps. This place cares about its guests. The main inn has a Restaurant 1915 upstairs. Holy cow, the food here was excellent. Expect to spend a little $. Good selection of wines, mixed drinks, beers, and a few craft brews. I had an appetizer that included sliced apples, bread, and cheeses (brie!) all sourced from local farmers. I feasted on a steak nestled on top of a bed of roasted creminis and greens with a blanket of whiskey and bourbon sauces. My mouth experienced an explosion of flavors throughout dinner that I still dream about days later. Legend has it that even Bigfoot treks down the Appalachian trail specifically to scour the restaurant for leftovers. The inn also houses a small cafe on bottom that serves quick food bites, cold drinks, coffee, a few bottled beers, and mixed coffees (with optional alcohol). I swear, it takes a State Park to find coffee with alcohol, hah. A gift shop is right across. I grabbed a few stickers, some geodes, a book on the history of the area, a mug, and mixed nuts sourced from local farmers. Discounts for being an overnight guest.Great place. Need to visit a few more times because there is much to do in surrounding areas that its difficult to do them all in a couple of days.
Bear mountain is one of the most enjoyable places to be, you have your dose of nature, fun, exercise and you cant forget about the food, the restaurant and bar is on point, my favorite thing to get is there fish tacos whenever its in season. I highly recommend it! Go and have fun.
I grew up going toBear Mtn. to watch the Ski Jumping competition ice skating and winter hiking. Then it was with my children for pre- Christmas and fireworks to welcome Santa. Now Im taking my grand children for the zoo and summer time picnics. I think I like the place.
Bear mountain is easily accessible from New York City and other places in New Jersey. It’s a must visit and must experience place. Perkins tower, bear mountain inn, boating and the zoo are must visit places. Staffs in bear mountain inn are kids and they’re not friendly. They’re rude most of the times, I’m saying this as I’ve visited bear mountain and the inn for atleast 30 times in past 4 years. Make sure to take cash for the boating as they don’t take cards. Car parking is $10 even if you park for the full day or for 5 mins, so make use of your money.Restroom here is not clean because of the thousands of people who visit every day.
Bear Mountain is nice getaway place for all (especially hikers!) The lodge is quite a drive from anywhere else, so make sure you are ready for the drive. The rooms tend to be on the expensive side but it is up for you to decide if its worth it or not. The main attraction is would be the mountain hikes which are not too difficult with the a beautiful overlooking view as an reward. However, since this lodge is located up an high altitude, there not much internet signal, forcing guest to rely on the logdes internet service.
Nice hotel overlooking the lake at the base of Bear Mountain (the two hotels are the same, though the one I stayed in was Overlook Inn). Very friendly staff. Priced reasonably well. Have only stayed on nights when I have got lost and missed the bus back to NYC, which unfortunately has happened on more than one occasion :). Only negative is that the soundproofing isnt so good. Walls are thin, and they need to go oil the door hinges as all three times I have been there, when the cleaners are doing their thing, the doors squeaking become very irritating. Would stay there again though.
I had perhaps the worst nights sleep of any hotel at the Bear Mountain Inn last night. The lodge has been beautifully renovated. Unfortunately in our room (310), the thermostat was broken and the air conditioning improperly installed. All night long the air conditioner rattled and shook on every twenty minutes -- even with earplugs the noise woke me up and kept me awake from 2:30am. No mechanic or receptionist was on duty until the morning. When I complained at check out, the receptionist seemed barely interested and made no real apology for the inconvenience. I wanted to love this place following the renovations. Sadly until they fix the air conditioning and provide better service, I cannot recommend the hotel and will not be back.
My fiancé and I had an absolutely divine experience at BOTH of The Bear Mountain Inns eating establishments. We had a reservation for Restaurant 1915, where we were absolutely blown away by the sublimely sophisticated American Cuisine menu and spot-on service, when suddenly we began hearing beautiful music from the adjoining Blue Roof Tapas Bar, which turned out to be Piano Bar Thursdays! After we finished our splendid meal and bottle of champagne, we decided to have dessert in the warm, intimate, and cozy piano bar. The piano player and singers were so unbelievably talented, we could have been in the midst of an environmental Broadway show for the price of dessert and a cordial, which were as delicious as the music being made! What a great addition to our already spectacular community.
We attended after purchasing a groupon. We stayed in the stone cottages. The room was a classic you get what you pay for room. The shower was clogged and when I mentioned it to the desk representative didnt apologize, or do anything to make up for the inconvenience, just said is that all? It didnt get fixed during our two night, three day stay. The customer service is minimal. When we checked out, a thank you for coming was not even expressed. Was very disapointed in the lack of customer appreciation.
My first stay and dinner at the Bear Mountain Inn was on June 30, 1968, the day before I reported as a New Cadet at West Point. The Bear Mountain Inn was a bit Spartan but certainly alright and I recall that the dining room was quite good. With some feeling of nostalgia and believing the propaganda on the Inns website, my second stay at the Bear Mountain Inn was on October 16, 2015, and it was far from pleasant, let alone satisfactory. I was very disappointed and frankly embarrassed that I had recommended it to the remainder of the party that accompanied me.For approximately $260 I got a sad little room in one of the outlying stone cottages. The bathroom was so small that the door couldnt be fully opened; it hit the edge of the vanity, so forget about standing in front of the mirror or even turning around in the bathroom if the door were open. My room had an additional exit, presumably the facilitys fire exit. It had a permanently illuminated, and probably hard wired EXIT sign over the door frame. The light was far from subtle and shined bright red all night. If you were even slightly sleep-susceptible to light, there was no sleep possible in that room. This was sub Motel 6!The dining experience was poor, at best. I ordered Zuppa di Pesce, a traditional Tuscan fish soup. What I received was a Chef Boyardee concoction of overcooked mussels, fish of unknown origin and way-too-well-done shrimp in a flavorless tomato sauce on a mass of overcooked and stuck-together broad noodles. I believe the restaurant (the 1915 Restaurant at The Bear Mountain Lodge) charged about $25 for that sorry excuse for Zuppa di Pesce. The wait staff were not bad, actually quite attentive. The abysmal quality of my meal rests with the chef, and I use that title loosely, and a complete lack of quality control by management. The next time I go back to West Point for a football game, I will check into a chain like Marriott, so that you know what to expect. My second visit to the Bear Mountain Inn will definitely be my last.
The bear garden inn, the front desk guy told me that they are full house so I have to go overlook lodge and the front desk guy also told me that they are not responding for this issue because I brought my ticket from booking.com. Overlook lodge almost 20 minutes walking distance from the bear garden inn and you have to go all the way at top of the hill.

2022-02-07I cannot express enough how much I loved staying at Bear Mountain Inn! My boyfriend and I planned a last minute trip here and from before we even booked the trip, Bear Mountain Inn was extremely helpful and accommodating. Commuting from the city can be confusing and they were very helpful with instructions (if youre planning on coming from NYC, use Coach USA! Drops you off right in front of the hotel). They also were kind enough to give us early check-in since our bus dropped us off so early! We stayed in one of the cottages and it was so clean and cozy. The resort itself has plenty to offer and is incredibly beautiful. We did not go to the restaurant, but the front desk was kind enough to give us a list of places that deliver to the hotel which was so helpful. Check-out is 11am, but our bus was not arriving until 5pm. The front desk was beyond kind enough to let us leave our bags in the lobby so we could enjoy a few more hours of the resort. I never write Google reviews, but I had to for the Inn. Thank you Bear Mountain Inn for such an amazing experience!!!

2021-12-29Our stay was very comfortable. There were a ton of trails right outside our cabin. I wish we werent just stopping through on our way north, because this would make for an enjoyable vacation stay. They have a ton of activities for everyone and our room was cozy and clean.

2022-05-06The rooms are larger than expected. Very cozy. The front desk staff are so helpful. Excited that the restaurant is open. Amazing way to wake up and visit the zoo first thing in the morning.

2022-04-23We spent a night at the Inn after having our daughters sweet 16 at their Carousel. The staff and service are exceptional. The grounds are beautiful and our room was spacious and immaculate. We will be visiting again.

2022-02-15Wanted to give it five stars, but couldn’t because of a couple facts;1. So tired of hearing due to Covid the rooms do not get cleaned. Something like only if you stay past 5 nights (came Sunday leaving Friday). On our way out this morning, my wife and I asked if we can get fresh towels, coffee as well the garbage taken from our room. The front desk gentleman was very kind wrote everything down and sure enough, we returned around noon there were fresh towels and coffee (K cups) in our room on the chair as you walk in. Would’ve been nice if they taken the garbage from the bathroom not just near the coffee bar area as well the towels on the bathroom floor. Enough already. Just like the airlines continually looking for ways to cut back and still charge the same prior to Covid.2. Went to Restaurant 1915 Sunday afternoon, Had a couple drinks ordered fries and pork back ribs to go. They were getting ready to close which I don’t blame them, the weather was terrible was not many people there. Get to the room and the ribs, tasty but so tiny, 2 had a decent amount of meat on them the other 2, you have to be kidding me, hardly any meat. Very very puny 4 ribs! I’m not putting pictures up because I wanna see what they have to say,. I’m sure management will come on and say I should’ve brought it up to them at the time we were there and they would of handle it. OK well if this is up before we leave, we’re listening, here until Friday!.I will say all employees are very very nice it’s just a shame that management in my opinion tries to circumvent the COVID-19 situation.

2022-03-22Stayed at the Overlook Lodge Friday-Sunday. The facility and room are a little dated, but clean and comfortable. However, an event (a teens birthday party) in the basement during the day on Saturday rendered our room uninhabitable for 5-6 hours. The party was completely unchecked by management with music so loud that the pictures on our walls and glasses on tables were literally vibrating and shaking. What is advertised as a peaceful facility was anything but. When asked about the party (its duration and why the volume was unchecked), the front desk lady was dismissive, rolled her eyes and refused to ask management to look into it. We had to leave the facility for several hours until it was over.

2022-05-27We stayed at the Stone Cottages and honestly cannot understand the bad reviews. It was incredibly clean and cozy. It is simple lodging, but that is exactly as it is advertised. I would recommend bringing your own shampoo, conditioner, body wash (which I usually do anyway). This is because they are refillable and attached to the shower wall, which is great for being eco friendly (Yayy) but means you can’t read the ingredients if you have allergies. The stone cottages (we stayed in the Beaver) are located right above hessian lake which is a beautiful early morning “hike.” It is just a loop of 1.4 miles and completely paved trail around the lake where you can see lots of birds and hear the frogs. My partner and I have already talked about planning to stop by again for a longer trip in the winter!! Since we only lodged for one night, we did not end up at any of the restaurants. So, I cannot give any opinions on those either way. However, we we’re told since we we’re staying we got 10% the hikers cafè while we were staying if you were curious. Overall, we absolutely loved our stay!!

2022-04-23For $250 a night you can stay in an outdated, dirty, suite thats falling apart. Oh, and theres ZERO communication about what activities are open or closed. Websites and even signs on the property are vague. Front desk staff needs to be responsible for INFORMING guests of what is open or not WHEN they check in! Countless families walking around in aimless circles with disappointed children because nothing was open at the end of April in 68 degree weather. Trailside Museum & Zoo? CLOSED. Even though their site said parts were still open. Indoor Carousel? CLOSED. WIFI is free because it doesnt work. Gift shop was randomly cash only. Room was dangerous for a toddler. Fake fireplace with spray painted Styrofoam logs and broken dangling metal mesh covering that any child could get into. Coffee table corners could take your eye out. NO HOUSEKEEPING unless you stay for a minimum of FIVE days. They wont tell you till AFTER you book a room. Spa is a creepy hotel room. We wasted 2 days microwaving our own food, cleaning up after ourselves and doing no activities for our sons birthday. Save your money and get an air b&b somewhere!

2022-06-07I would definitely come back for a stay. I loved everything about it. The only thing I did not like is the AC/heater in the room. Its very noisy and hard to adjust with making the room cold/warm.
