Berts Bikes & Fitness in other cities:
Walked into Berts August 30th and I believe 8 people where working at the time. Not one of them said hello they barely acknowledged that I was there but with a glance. I walked through looked at bikes and had questions. But no one came up to me to ask if I need help. So I left and I dont think Ill be back. I want to buy a bike maybe not one of their most expensive ones but I want to buy a bike I think it wont be from there now.
I went into Berts today 6/5/21 in hopes of looking to get information regarding the purchase of a bike. I looked around for over 15 minutes and not one employee came to ask if I needed assistance or acknowledged that I was there. I saw the employees assisting several customers that arrived well after I did. I walked to the front of the store and still no acknowledgement from any employee. As I was leaving I saw 2 employees engaging amongst themselves. I felt uncomfortable and ignored as if my business didnt matter possibly because of my race.
Have had several very nice and informative interactions with staff about various bike parts, how to install them, and given encouragement to learn how to fix various things on my own.Have also been actively and clearly maliciously misgendered by an obnoxious surfer bro aesthetic subscribing weasel boy who was treating all the customers like trash.
Feel like they are overpriced and not very friendly. It’s my bad for not checking prices online first. Recently bought a Bern brand bike helmet that was “40% off”. The sale price at Bert’s was still higher than the normal price of the helmet at other places. They also have long wait times for repairs or other bike services. I’m sure they are busy but having to keep my bike 10-15 days to put on handlebar wrap?! Not kidding that was the estimate I was provided. I’ll just do it myself, thanks. They are open on Sunday, which I have to think is a reason people shop there.
Had an awful experience at a local bike shop. Came to Bert’s and the guy couldn’t have been nicer. His name was Jim. Everyone in the shop was courteous, friendly, and helpful. He fixed my bike in 15 minutes and had me on my way. Night and day difference from what I had just experienced elsewhere. Will be going to Berts for everything in the future! Great job.
I bought a trainer here a few days ago and while Im usually pretty handy I couldnt get my bike to work on it for the life of me. I stopped back in with the trainer and bike a few days later and the employees were more than willing to help me figure it out and get me on my way! Quick, friendly service, thank you!
My parents wanted a stationary bike since they can no longer workout outside the house. I picked a bike from Berts website I thought would suit their needs, it was confirmed by the male associate who was very helpful, the transaction went smoothly, 2 days later the bike was brought to my parents house. The young men were properly protected and attired. Delivered the bike where they wanted it. My parents are well pleased. Thank you!
Ordered a new bike on June 16th. The woman who assisted me assured me it would take less than 2 weeks to receive the bike. It has now been over 6 weeks with no information from Bert’s on the status of my order. I have called 4 separate times over the past 4 weeks and received the same answer from them telling me “it should be here next week.” Terrible customer service. I ordered my bike to have for the summer and the summer is nearly over without any information. Take your business elsewhere!
I dont typically write reviews. But the phone customer service is really bad. I called about options on a new bike for returned. The staff person hung up on me rather than answer my question. The second, third, and 4th time the staff person put me on hold, then eventually hung up on me. I ended up going to the store.
I surprised at the negative comments about service. Ive been at the NFB location at least 9 times in the last 30 days; the staff is friendly, and impressively knowledgeable and patient - without sales pressure. I felt the manager Bob, sales staff and service technicians helpful to ensure that I wound up with a bike I loved riding .. which I did. Sometimes its very busy, but its not a long wait, everyone gets take care of. Great experience and I wouldnt go anywhere else - unconditionally recommend.
Revised downward from 5 stars to four stars.5 stars:Very impressed with customer service here. I came in with a broken wheel, and they spent at least 20 minutes hunting down the parts I needed to fix it. And they will warranty my defective tire. Another bike shop simply laughed in my face when I asked if the tire was covered by warranty.Edit: My second encounter with Berts was not so pleasant.2 stars:Preface: Ive used toe clips and straps for years, so Im familiar with dismounting from being clipped onto pedals. Ive also worked as a bike mechanic for many years, and have worked at Berts Bikes.I decided to upgrade to cleats, so I bought Shimano SRT mountain bike pedals and Bontrager mountain bike shoes with cleats, and had them installed. (I told the salesperson that these were my first pair).I went for a test ride in the parking lot, and after several successful unclips, thought I was good.A couple of rides later, I felt like my foot had more range of motion than before, but I thought I was imagining it. Then I needed to unclip in a hurry, and my foot wouldnt release, and I fell over and scraped up my knee. When I examined the shoe, I found that the cleat was loose. On both shoes, the screws holding on the cleats were barely hand-tight.Heres the thing: if they installed them loosely so I could adjust them to my liking, they didnt tell me. If they intended to install them properly, they failed, In either case, I was not sent out of the store in a safe condition. When I complained to the manager, he tried to make it my fault. First he blamed me for not knowing how to use cleats (even though I had no trouble before), and then he suggested they loosened up like when you dont get your cars wheel lug nuts retorqued after getting tires mounted (ridiculous considering how loose all four screws were), and then suggesting that I left the shop without getting them adjusted and tightened (except that the salesman told me I was all set, and didnt warn me that they needed to be worked on any further). In short, the manager was rude and condescending, and the service was incompetent--or there was a communications failure--to the point of causing me injury.Following Youtube instructions, I tightened the screws down properly and adjusted the torque on the release mechanism to my liking, and have had no trouble since.Summary: your experience may vary depending on who you talk to, and make sure any components they install are properly tightened.Average: 3.5 stars.
My wife and I went here with the hopes to buy an entry level hybrid bike and after speaking with several staff members who couldnt help us, we were matched up with an employee who seemed uninterested in us getting a hybrid bike and was very pushy towards buying a road bike, which would not suit the riding we will be doing. We ended up leaving a going to Handlebars Cycle Company where the staff fully understood our needs and we ended up buying a bike there instead. In short, dont waste your time with Berts.
I purchased a new bike a little over a year ago at the location in orchard Park which was a very pleasant experience. Since then I had not taken great care of the bike and it was in need of some serious cleaning and a tune up. We went in and were immediately greeted which was very nice. I talked with a gentleman who appeared to be the repair manager, he had suggested the a I get the deluxe bike tune. Sadly I never asked and he never told me what was included with that package. They were supposed to call me when my bike was ready to be picked up but never did so I called and I was told it had been done for 2 days. Once I picked the bike up it had been cleaned slightly and a few cables replaced but it still was not as clean as I had hoped to get based on the 100 dollar bill. When I went to take the front wheel off the bike to take it home I had to fight with it due to the cables being too tight. When I got home it was more of a struggle. My interaction with the staff was nice but I was not impressed with the product.
The Tonawanda Store despite being constantly busy is a great shop. Sadly with COVID19 they are ravaged with not having enough bikes....Purchased my CAAD13 there with top sales from the boss himself, Jim....and every time Ive had issues with the bike in terms of service Jim and Albert get me in an out and back on the road.
Called to see if they could box a bike up for me for shipping. They said yes... for $80. Lets break this down. They get the box and the shipping materials for free. In fact, its trash to them--because bike shops are receiving bikes constantly--from their vendors--in boxes--packed for shipping. And to box a bike up for shipping takes less than 30 minutes if you know what youre doing. So, apparently they charge $160 /hr for labor @ this shop. Wow. Ive had many bikes boxed up at many different shops... and the typical charge is $20 to $40 for this super easy, low-skilled procedure. $80 is a joke. If theyre over-charging this much to simply box up a bike... I can only image what they charge for actual maintenance.
Berts employees will give you extremely preferential treatment based on how much money you are spending there. This would be understandable if only they were good at their jobs. However, while speaking to the employees about how much they ride I realized that they dont ride enough to be selling bikes. The employees knowledge about bicycles does not come close to what it should be to properly help their customers. If you dont care about the customer service that you are given, then by all means go to Berts for your bicycle needs. However, if customer service is important to you, I highly recommend bringing your business elsewhere.
Berts rocks! I brought my bike in because my brakes were broken and little did I know they were just a little wonky! They showed me how to avoid them from becoming unattached and also showed me how to store it in my car so the brakes are always working perfectly! Thanks Bob from Berts! Awesome service!!
The staff is so bad. They are uninterested & lackadaisical. Its like they dont want to sell you anything. You ask them a question & they will reply with the least amount of information. Dont bother at this place, there are way better bike shops around buffalo that will actually listen to what you want & set you up with gear you feel good about.
Can’t say enough about how satisfied we’ve been in our experiences with the crew at Bert’s. Great selection, reasonable prices, knowledgeable, patient and friendly sales and service staff. We will not go anywhere else for our cycling needs. (Except when we go to Florida. Then we go to Real Bikes of Venice.)
A+, stellar customer service! I was having some trouble assembling a kids bike that I bought for my son for Christmas. I went to Berts for help: Bob found a replacement for a faulty part and finished the assembly for me. He even put air in the tires. Thanks, guys, for your help -- it is very much appreciated!!
Berts saved the day for me. My left shifter broke and Im a ride marshal for the 65 mile route on thebRide for Roswell in 3 days. They very kindly let us bring the bike in and were able to repair the shifter and all for an EXTREMELY reasonable price. I am so thrilled that I dont have to borrow a bike for a 65 mile ride.
The staff at Berts Bikes and Fitness are some of the best in the business. You are readily greeted and assisted as soon as you step foot in the door. They are eager to discuss any and all of my biking needs with me, from buying a bike as well as biking accessories. They have one of the biggest inventories of bikes and equipment in the area. The quality is great, and the knowledge and professionalism is always high. It is easily one of my favorite places to shop for my biking needs.
I moved to the Buffalo area from Northern California. Stopped in at Berts and received by far less than satisfactory service. Customer service was nonexistent. When we approached an employee and asked about service for my bicycle….clueless. Thank you for not servicing my Cannondale and we did purchase additional bicycles from Dicks . Much more accommodating and professional. I want to support the local business. I would not recommend or return.
Decent place, with a large number of bicycles for sale. There are plenty of staff to help you out and get you on your way. I went there to change the tires out on my commuter bike to something more puncture resistant and smoother rolling, they found me a solid set of tires and changed them out for a fair price.
I took my used Japanese model to this place and specifically gave instructions to replace both inner tubes and tires, as the bike had been sitting for quite some time. The staff needs some sort of customer service course. I did not receive so much as a greeting until I walked up to the checkout desk and even then, it wasnt that friendly. I spent several hundred dollars on tires (supposedly new inner tubes), a lighting system and one other tool. Sometime in August I was leaving my friends house and suffered a rear flat. Upon opening up the tire and tube I discovered, to my dismay that, even though I had specifically instructed that both inner tubes be replaced, that the technician had put the old tube back in. A few days ago, I had another flat, this time on the front wheel. I have not yet opened up the assembly, but I will bet that it also has the old inner tube inside. Berts Bikes on Niagara Falls Boulevard will never have my business again. I have selected another bicycle shop on Hertel Avenue to be my new service center. I would recommend you take your bicycling business someplace else.
Justin helped us pick out a bike tonight. My moms was recently stolen out of the garage and she loved it. He took us right to the new edition of it. He knew each model inside out and answered every question. Totally took the anxiety out of shopping for such a large purpose. He was no pressure sales and encouraged us to try them all. Model employee.
I bought a bike from them years ago and know they know there stuff. I went in look for bar rap for a project and I was pointed in the right direction and helped right away with the questions I had. If you are looking for anything bike related and need something specific that a small local shop doesnt offer go here. They are top of the board in my book.
Stood in the store for 20 minutes waiting for service. I had to stare aggressively at a salesman to even get acknowledged. He told me they were short handed and apologized for the wait, but when he was through with his customer we still were passed over for a different couple that came in after us.Better off going to a small mom and pop bike shop. There are plenty in WNY
Had trouble finding a specific product locally. So I searched online and found it on Berts Bike and Fitness. I dont usually buy my cycling gear online, but I took a chance and was super happy! They helped me find what I needed and shipped it out really fast. I highly recommend this place!
Husband and I decided our beach cruisers were a lot of work for the bike path and wanted an upgrade. Headed to Berts Bikes to select our new bicycles. After about a half-hour, we decided, it was too long to be ignored by the sale staff. (Store was virtually empty. Well, Dicks Bicycle Shop on Niagara street Tonawanda scored on this particular sale. Never again, Berts! Tattoos dont mean no $$$.
I asked a question about pedals, 3 different people told me they would find someone who would know more about pedals. Finally, after 40 minutes of waiting around, someone kind of but not really answerred my question. I had some shoes and pedals I was going to buy but I decided to go else where.
Went into the Niagara Falls Blvd store with my 8 year old and 11 year old grandsons to get a good helmet as they are using trick scooters. The 11 year old choose a good Bern helmet and we went to pay....After at least 10 minutes we left as there was some type of glitch with their computer system and we could not pay....It took so long the gentleman who was helping us left ....Not very customer friendly.,....
AWFUL!Went in to replace tire and tube, bought new seat.Took nearly an hour to have the wheel done.Fortunately I was watching and the mechanic was going to put the old tube in,not the new one. They werent all that busy that a less than 5 minute job should have taken that long. I realize spending a bit over$100 isnt huge but I deserved better than that😡
Went in to see if they could help with my daughter seat that broke the first guy laughed cause I said it was an expensive bike it was 300 dollars he said thats not a good or expensive bike sent me to service department an they looked at me a just said cant help didnt even look at the seat
Its okay. If you look like a person who has money that can be easily parted with theyll show you preferential treatment and make recommendation to upsell more goods that are not always sound/practical advise. If not, you wont even get an acknowledgement that youre in the store looking to buy something.

2022-06-20Took my bike in for a tune up and they did not do a great job. I had asked for a tire fixed and a new handlebar wrap. Got the bike back and the shifters brakes everything was loose, like it hadnt even been hand tightened. They went on and on about the handlebar wraps looking good but they had put them over the screws I needed to tighten the handle bar levers so I basically had to rip them off to tighten them.I had to attempt to tighten everything myself as I didnt have the money to pay someone else after how expensive this was. Months later something went wrong with the gear shifter and my memory is a little fuzzy due to the concussion but I went over the handlebars and lost a lot of skin.DO NOT TAKE YOUR BIKE HEREThey do not know what they are doing.

2022-06-14Called to ask for the service department to ask a few questions about my ebike. I asked for the service department and mark said what what do you need. I asked if he was with the service department he then repeated what do you need. I told him I was confused because he didn’t answer my question. Mark hill then repeated 8-10 times more what do you need. I answered can I now talk to a manager!? Mark made me ask another 8-10 times for his manager. He only passed the call to a nice young lady that was his manager when I told mark I’d be happy to drive up there and talk to the manager in person. Manager helped me. Horrible customer service from mark.

2022-05-20Stay far away. while making my final decision on the size of the bike I was going to purchase, I told the salesman I wanted to test ride it around the parking lot to which he said ok. I was then stopped at the front door and accused of trying to steal the bike by the store manager. How embarrassing of a situation when I was preparing to spend 858$ on a bicycle (I did not give them this sale). I warn that this egregious act was an example of the horrible customer service that they will provide you.

2022-05-15Markel was such a help! I usually come to this location for my road bike, but this trip was for my spin shoes. Since I was new to the SPD life, Markel and the Bert’s team helped me find exactly what I needed - which was such a relief!! Definitely coming back for future bike/cycling needs

2022-05-21Over-priced, rude staff, an even more rude owner. Run for the hills and go to literally any other bike shop and spend your hard-earned money where they actually care about your cycling needs.

2021-06-11Berts on Niagara Falls Blvd. is an amazing place. I bring my electric bikes in regularly for maintenance and, without fail, I am always greeted with friendly, helpful and enthusiastic service. Even though its a busy place, everyone seems to go out of their way to make my visits enjoyable. The shop in the back is filled with technicians second to none and my bikes always come back to me like new. Shout out to Haley who does a great job being the point of contact, and Forrest for helping me (again) load my bikes in the car! Thank you for your wonderful 5-star service! Ill be recommending Berts to everyone I know.
