AC unit didnt work well. The sink in the bathroom didnt drain well. Water pressure was fare. Shower head needs to be changed. Does not work well. You pay a good price for a room so you expect everything to work well. Oh well. I will say to the room was clean and plenty enough towels. Who Evey check the mechanicals needs to do a better job.
Very nice ,clean and comfortable. Thats the good. The flip side is upon check in the manager told us that he had a problem getting help and was personally working a lot of hours therefore despite the fact that we were staying 2 nights ( at a cost of almost $350 a night ) they would not be touching the room and if we needed anything we should not call but rather come down to the front desk and ask for what we need. The breakfast was mini muffins and pastry from ,I believe Walmart that they put individually into ziplock bags. A unique touch.
Please avoid this hotel. I booked a room through booking.com, but when I arrived I was told my reservation could not be found. Although it could be booking.com’s fault that there was a mistake, when trying to resolve this issue with management, the manager, Ravi, told me to “not bother them,” “don’t waste their time,” and overall very rudely dismissed me. He even told me that I never showed up even though I went to the hotel with that exact name (which is the only hotel with that name in that vicinity) and sat in the lobby for 1.5+ hours trying to resolve the issue by calling booking.com. Even if the hotel was in good condition, the attitude I was given when I respectfully tried to have a conversation was unacceptable. I would give zero stars if possible. Overall, I strongly suggest everyone to find a different hotel to save your time and money. It would also save you a lot of stress.
I stayed in a lot of hotels in the United States and in Europe but staying in Best Western plus Fingerlakes , NY was the worst experience ever.Where to start?1) I booked the room for 3 nights in advance and I was charged for the first night at the time of reservation with the promise to be charged for the additional two nights upon arrival. BUT on arrival I was charged again for 3 nights instead of 2 nights. I tried to explain to the owner that my credit card was already charged for the first night (not a pending transaction!!!) but the owner insisted that they did not charge my credit card for the first night. It was simply a hold on my credit card which was not true. After explaining repeatedly to the owner that I have been already charged for one night, he finally agreed and credited back my credit card for the first night charge and charged me for the 3 nights on arrival.2) My room was not cleaned next day with the explanation that the guests do not wish their rooms to be cleaned because of the Covid-19 infection risk. As a healthcare provider I tried to explain to the owners wife that changing bed sheets while the guest is not in the room, replacing empty shampoo bottles or replacing the used towels in the room does not transmit Covid-19 virus. With all the respect Covid has become an excuse for laziness and for saving money at the expense of the guests comfort and standard services.3) The entrance, the lobby, the hallways and the rooms were filthy, not vacuumed with food crumbs around the breakfast stand and in the lobby as well as old carpet stains everywhere. I was not informed upfront about those conditions but I was asked to pay the full price for half of the services that one should expect in any 1-2 star hotel.3) The TV remote control was not working properly.4) The room phone was not working.5) The thermostat was not working properly.5) Breakfast included a bagel and cheese in a plastic bag, bars and a few apples but no plates. When I ask for a PAPER plate, I was told that the hotel does not have staff to clean. There was no place to eat breakfast other than standing in the middle of the lobby and eating the bagel from a napkin.6) The water pressure was extremely low and it took forever to take a shower.7) The towels were old and falling apart.8) The building is supposedly 6 years old but nothing in that building looked 6 years old. From the entrance of the hotel to the lobby, hallway, rooms, walls and every other aspect of the building looked 30+ years old including unprofessionally caulking of the bath tub and unfinished wall repairs.9) Despite bringing the deficiencies to the attention of the owner, owners wife and one of their employees, the response was rude, defensive, accusative and deceitful. No acknowledgment of the deficiencies, no offer of price reduction, future stay credit or any sort of apologies. Instead using pandemic as an excuse for their shortcomings, deficiencies, cutting corners and saving money at the expense of cleanness, service and guest comfort. Conclusion: An overpriced hotel with rude owner and front desk employee, dirty, rundown and horrible service that I would not recommend anyone unless you are looking for a bed and a roof. AVOID THIS HOTEL!!!
Our credit card was compromised and this was the only place we used that specific card. It was used for Uber eats and they tried to use it almost a dozen times at Walgreens in California. The bed was comfortable. The shower was nice and the overall accommodations were as similar to other Best Westerns we’ve stayed at. However the room was not very clean and the food and pubic hairs are probably still there lol. No breakfast (even after the mandate was lifted )at all except for 3 tiny baskets of muffins, danish and something that sort of resembled a doughnut, a few yogurts. That’s it folks! Have a suspicion the girl at the front desk had something to do with our credit card info. being stolen due to her writing down the information claiming she couldn’t access the system for a 11pm candy purchase. Have no proof but I’m not stupid!
Comfortable and reasonably priced , The rooms were very clean and quiet. Breakfast was good and the pool was nice. After reading a few negative reviews i didnt encounter and of them. We stayed a Monday and Tuesday in the middle of August and we had a King room facing the back of hotel. Except for busload of campers there werent many people staying at the Hotel . Staff was friendly and helpful.
Been renovated. Bed was comfortable, A/C worked nicely, didnt use much else. There was no hair dryer in the room, which was weird. Water pressure was good but the water temperature kept shifting. Buffet breakfast was decent although not fancy.Hotel has obviously been renovated, but only on the surface. Floors still creak, base walls still wobbly. Its reasonable.
Great place to stay, highly recommend this place. Ive been to several Cortland hotels and this one was the CLEANEST and nicest of them all.. Everything seemed brand new...The staff there was beyond friendly. Specifically I met with Mr. Jim Luba on of their staff. Jim went above and beyond to make our stay a very pleasant one. I believe if every Bear Western had a Jim Luba working there and making their guests feel at home, I would never stay at another hotel chain.Thank you Jim Luba for making everything wonderful for us!!!!
I stayed the night of July 10th, and Im still upset about my experience. I stayed at this hotel, rather than at many other hotels in the area, due to the fact that the website I booked through (booking.com) specifically said spa tub as one of the amenities. When I arrived, I had a room with a shower and had to come back out to the desk only to find out that there were no spa tubs in any of the rooms. I was tired at that point and just found some food and went to bed since I had a very early morning and long day ahead of me. I would have definitely saved a lot of money and stayed somewhere else if the advertisement for the hotel was accurate!
Internet quality is very dependent on which room your in. Rooms are clean, king beds are more comfortable than queens, not sure why...but its a fact. Towels in the rooms are thick, which is great. Poolside are much much thinner, when they have the towel rack stocked, which isnt often. Breakfast choices are better than most hotels that Ive stayed at. On demand channels dont always work, which was disappointing. But overall, not a bad place to stay.
On my stay 8/9/2019 I found the room to be less than satisfactory. The bathroom sink ad left over toothpaste spit in it along with other various stains and hair. It was as if no one even looked at this. Im not sure if someone got sick in the sink but it was disgusting. Unacceptable to leave a room like this. Not a good experience and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
Avoid! Avoid!! AVOID!!! Avoid making reservations at this hotel. I made the unfortunate mistake of making a reservation at this hotel unknowingly during a No-cancellation weekend. Who wouldve know? Ive made reservations many times all over the country and never did I come across this kind of unreasonable cancellation policy. My daughter attends one of the local colleges and I was making arrangements to pick her up. She had then made different arrangements and it was no longer needed that I pick her up. I explained this to the manager at the hotel and he was completely unsympathetic and immovable with cancelling my reservation - even though it was days before the date I made! Also, he made a lot of threats to sue me if I gave this review. This is not the kind of business I would support and I cant in any sense of a good conscience recommend that anyone would use this hotel. They are completely CUSTOMER UNFRIENDLY!!! I will certainly be letting all of the alumni, and other families friendly with my daughter at college know about how this hotel treats their customers.
I mentioned many of these issues during my stay and was given responses that were uncaring of the issues and uninterested in solving. The issues themselves are maintenance related and I would not have expected them in a building so newly constructed. All the other motels and hotels in the area are in worse shape but they are not charging the high rates that this Best Western facility does. Also, someone reporting to be the owner has called me a liar in response to my review of this hotel instead of acknowledging these are issues currently being investigated and resolved.I doubt I would ever stay at this facility or any other Best Western in the future based on the responses I have received. Please understand that all staff was very pleasant but did not seem to know how to resolve the issues or offer any solutions. Thats just how it is, is not an acceptable response.
For only being 2 years old, the hotel looked much older considering the lack of up keep and cleanliness of the rooms. The carpet had tears and stains all over the place. The sheets were dirty and stained. There was hair everywhere. And it was greatly overpriced! We even had to change our own sheets the first night upon arrival. Very disappointing. And we were charged $50 more after being told we had a discounted price!
Very nicely decorated, but our room is a bit dusty. Disappointing if you have allergies. Also, I moved a seat cushion and found crumbs. That being said, its easy to find and out of town but close to Cortland and Greek Peak. The pool was very very cold but someone spoke to the manager about raising the temp. Maybe tomorrow it will be usable.
I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights and strongly disagree with many of the postings. It was a clean room for sure but you should bring your own soap, shampoo, towel and a warm blanket and do not look for an extra one in the room. Called main desk and no answer multiple times. With some small attention to detail much could be improved.
Everything nice, clean, and new. The owner seems to really care about how your stay is going. He will ask you how everything is and if you need anything whenever he sees you. Beds are comfy and rooms are well kept. Fun looking minigolf next door. The only problem is lack of places to eat in the surrounding area.
Very friendly atmosphere! The staff was very helpful and the hotel was clean. A great place to visit when visiting your child at cortland college. We sat and played games and watched movies in the lobby, afterwards we went swimming in the pool. The breakfast was plentiful and hot. the best part of our stay was the friendly staff that recommended restaurants and things to do.
I stopped in here just to look at the new hotel. I talked with the owner and found him to be very friendly and pleasant. The facility is awesome. Being brand new you know the accommodations will be outstanding so the only concern would be the staff. Well based on my experience talking with the owner I dont think that will be an issue. The hotel is located close within 2 miles of the SUNY Cortland campus. It also a close drive to the Finger Lakes wineries. Right next door is a nice outdoor and indoor mini-golf course that is really fun!Ive not stayed here, but I feel that if you do you will have a very good experience.
I was at this facility a year ago on business and when I went to get in to bed I found dried blood on the sheets. Not attempted washed out blood, dried blood. I had to call the front desk and have new sheets brought up. This time I was sent back up on business and the first thing I did was peel up the sheets and I found a bunch of human hair all over the sheets. This wasnt a few hairs that may have made it through the wash, they were sitting on top and could be brushed off. This place has a horrendous housekeeping issue. I dont care how nice the lobby is or the exterior of the building, I want a clean bed. They clearly do not change the sheets. They truly deserve 0 stars but that is not the option. BOOK ELSEWHERE!
Carpet stains. Smell in hotel, especially the room. Dirty stairwells with cobwebs. Mirror was never clean, greaselike streaks. No hot water for shower one morning. Extremely disappointing for $175 a night which I understand whats a discounted rate. Will definitely never stay in that hotel again
Nice rooms. A little on the pricy side. But the only reason it didnt get 5 stars was that there were people in a room across from mine who were smoking marijuana and smelling up the whole hallway. I went to the desk and they laughed and said they have one hell of a fee instead of apologizing and offering to move our room like I had expected a hotel manager to do. But besides that, the experience was pretty good.
Good hotel, excellent service, rooms are spacious and everything looks clean. Breakfast is reasonable and internet connection was stable. The downside are only the fact that theres no bar at the hotel (not sure if its no allowed in NY) and there are no walking distance restaurants or diners.
Nothing fancy, just good old fashioned cleanliness and courteous service. Clean and open lobby. Simple rooms with good wifi and selection of tv stations. Comfortable bed. Near enough to Cortland without being on top of the campus. Only gripe was the powdered eggs and very cold sausage and breakfast potatoes. Hot coffee was a plus. Free though so cant expect the world. Nice pool that we didnt use. Very limited gym.Nice hotel for the price. Just what we needed as a stopover.
My son goes to Cornell and during times of the year when a lot of parents visit, most hotels closer to Cornell book up completely. This hotel is about 30 minutes away but I always stay here because the rooms are comfortable and clean and its reasonably priced. Check in process also very fast.
The owners are extremely rude and argumentative. The woman was extremely horrible to my husband and the man was sexist and ridiculous with me. Will never give our money to this establishment again. Horrible customer service. The 2nd lady I was dealing with was brand new and had no clue how to help. She is the reason everything was screwed up but I ultimately blame the owners for not training her correctly.
3 stars because it’s nearly 5 stars, but it’s missing some key ingredients. When I checked in, it took over 10 minutes. The TV and WiFi are in-and-out. I couldn’t FaceTime my wife because the WiFi connection was too poor on my end. The local stations were cutting out on the TV as well. The bathroom faucet had a very low pressure, so filling up my bottle was quite annoying. The all the towels were...starchy, not fluffy, tough not soft. The breakfast orange juice tasted off..like it may have been expired. And the most important Con: they don’t have Shipwreck putt putt on their restaurant/food list. I agree, it’s not sit-down style, but they do sell concession style food and ice cream. Not to mention, it’s one of the best putt putt and paintball target courses for many miles around. They should endorse their neighbor!!!The pros:The shower head was set on coarse, and it was very soothing (in my opinion), although you can change it. The room and bathroom was clean when I entered. The toilet made by the worlds best toilet, Toto flushed my excretes excellently-I’m always worried I’ll need to ask for a plunger or just deal with the embarrassment until I leave haha. The furniture was comfortable, and the Air conditioner works well.I slept very well and the room is quiet. So, there isn’t much to fix to make this 5 stars, starting with the WiFi. Don’t be cheap.
The problem was with management (not the regular clerks) and the cleaning crew. My room was not cleaned properly on any of the 3 days I stayed. One day not at all and the next the bed was made and towels left. No vacuum and not even all trash was emptied. When I checked in my toilet seat was broken (you have to wonder how well it was cleaned if staff had not noted that) and the remote did not work. Both were fixed by the lone clerk working the front desk. When I finally talked with mgmt. upon checkout, the male and female were very rude accusing me of looking for a free ride and told me when I tried to explain that they would call the police. Trust me I am not an unreasonable guest and I certainly was not treated as a guest. In addition, the ice machine was broke and leaking water all over the floor by the elevator on my floor. No sign or attempt was made to fix until after I pointed it out in my discussion with mgmt. and they put up a wet floor sign. The facility could be a decent place with different mgmt.
Nice hotel, nice pool, great staff! Our only problems were with a room clock that had the wrong time (we didnt have a cell phone and overslept our intended wake-up time significantly - Wont make that mistake again), and a lack of knowledge by the staff of area attractions.
Dont book a room here unless you get all the details of your booking. AAA rate wasnt honored after reservation was booked. You wont get any support if a rate adjustment is needed based on incorrect information. I was promised a $20 rate reduction based on a promotion, but when I arrived was told something else. I do not recommend based on impression that hotel is money hungry. Sorry!
The Best Western Plus Finger Lakes Inn & Suites was a very nice place to stay for us visiting Cornell University and exploring the surrounding area. The room was nice and quite big. The furnishings in the hotel were very updated so Im guessing that its a newer building.
There are some pluses and minuses .minus: lengthy time for water to get warm in bathroom sink, shower water temperature fluctuated from hot to cold, .restroom door wouldnt stay open, no hot tub, not enough towels in pool area , difficulty using rewards.Pluses: comfortable beds, fridge and microwave, pool, . breakfast, location,
The Best Western Finger Lakes is our go-to when visiting family in Cortland. The location is close to shopping and restaurants and the hotel is always impeccably clean. It is also only a short drive to Ithaca. Beds are very comfortable and our grandkids enjoy the indoor pool.
This may be a very nice hotel. I dont know. I thought I made a reservation, but I never received a confirmation. Then, after staying somewhere else, I received a confirmation -- the next day! -- and my bank account was charged. I am still trying to resolve this with Best Western. Not very happy with them right now.
I quickly booked this hotel because I had to attend a sommelier training session a few days later. My room is on the top floor and I can see the lipstick building and the Citicorp Center. The room is very large, very clean and has a small fridge that needs to be reset every two hours. The staff is friendly and attentive. The biggest highlight of the trip was that the room was very quiet at night and there was no need to listen to the footsteps of others.

2022-06-19The rooms overall looked decent. They were clean and pretty well kept. Nothing was too outdated, but that doesnt mean they were beautiful. Views were lacking and I could have definitely used a Mongolian monk. The included breakfast was probably the most disappointing part of this experience. The options included bagels, yogurt, a few apples, and packaged muffins. WHERE WERE THE EGGS MAN??? I have ate eggs everyday for the past 13 years and this streak was completely ended from this breakfast. Toilets flushed well.

2022-06-17Positive: The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and well appointed. I only complaint was the pillows. Some fog smell like them I like it much firmer pillow. Don¿t let that keep you from staying here really nice place with very friendly folk

2022-04-17The room was clean. The beds are crippling. Both my wife and I both have extremely sore backs after sleeping in the bed. The shower water pressure is a joke. I can pee harder. As for the free breakfast it’s ok if you live on sugar. No hot food. No eggs, bacon or sausage as I would expect. There was a place for them but all the dishes were empty. Definitely not worth over $200 a night. Guess the place has gone down hill since previous reviews.

2022-04-24Extremely disappointed in this hotel. Upon arrival, we found our room completely filthy and smelling like smoke. There was debris all over the carpet and couch, mirrors clearly hadn’t been cleaned, hair in the bathroom and on the beds, empty tissue box, broken lightbulb and a nasty toilet- both inside as well as outside. When we inquired about this, the owner had to “go see it for herself”…. She returned to us telling us that she vacuumed herself and she doesn’t believe there is a smoke smell because they don’t allow smoking. She then proceeded to tell us that her and her husband had been out of town at a conference and the cleaning crew had already left for the day.*If you do plan to stay here, there is a Walmart close by for you to pick up cleaning supplies and air freshner(s)….. that’s what we did! :(

2022-04-18The guy that checked us in was rude and ignorant to us and our kids. Told us we need to be quite or we can go to a different hotel. The room was gross. We found Legos on the floor alone with a needle and a couple screws on the floor. By far my worse hotel experience yet. And the sad part is we had a great day at the water park til this happened.

2022-06-20Staff was nice. Expected a real breakfast with eggs etc. given the room price. Only bagels and danishes.....they have the equipment for a real breakfast.

2022-03-28Positive: The location was ideal for where I needed to work Negative: I suppose the continental breakfast could have been better setup and more inviting...it was a bit of an adventure in collecting the food items around the eating area/lobby

2022-05-29Extremely overpriced, dirty rooms, breakfast was a bagel in a ziploc. A huge joke of a “hotel”. Airbnb next time for sure

2022-05-02Bedbugs!! Stayed here Saturday night and Sunday morning found a bedbug crawling across the bed!! I took a video and then picked up the bug with a tissue and brought to the front desk and the guy says I dont believe you found a bedbug here I showed him the bedbug and said I had a video of it crawling across the bed and he shook his head no. I went and grabbed our stuff and bagged it in plastic bags from housekeeping and left. I will never stay here again.

2022-02-12The staff was rude told us we couldnt bring any outside food. They only had grab and go food no breakfast in the morning. The hotel its self is nice and clean but staff was rude and unprofessional.
