They do a good very good job of branding themselves as a “Hofbrauhaus”… That’s what I was looking for and I ended up there. The non-alcoholic menu is lacking, and how do you have a “German” establishment and not have “Spezi?”Food was ok and the atmosphere was the same.
Ok, so I didnt get a picture of the meatballs before I ate them. I took a picture before I finished them. I did that because they are tremendous and fantastic. Brussel sprouts an mushroom soup were also on point. If you want great beer, ridiculous meatballs, and quick service at a reasonable price in the city, climb the steps to this joint. You wont be disappointed.
Went to the restaurants website for a reservation. Their website specifically directed me to yelp to make a reservation. Arrived at the reservation time and was told the kitchen was closed. The person at the desk said it was our fault because we should have “looked up what time the kitchen closes.” Would have liked to have some real German food while in the US. But, this is NOT authentic German. No self respecting German would be so inaccurate about their service agreement. Disgraceful.
The food and atmosphere was actually pretty authentic. I saw a lot of true german dishes on the menu. The food was okay in terms of taste. I’ve had better and worse. The pricing was a bit more than typical german restaurants. The cup of bier cheese that I ordered ended up being around $4 if I remember correctly. Most meals are priced around $14-$18.Just a heads up they ID at the door so it’s a 21+ restaurant.
After coming back from Munich we thought this would be a fun throwback to the German beerhalls while we were there. Experience wise it was similar lots of rowdy people enjoying themselves with beer and food. While I would say the food wasnt comparable to what we had in Munich it did the job. The vast hall full of wooden benches and TV playing football. After all, when we went the World Cup had just wrapped up so everyone was still in the Cup spirit. We started with the pretzels of course with beer cheese/mustard. It wasnt quite the same but still pretty good. We tried the sausage platter to share as one can never get enough bratwurst right? It goes so well with beer!Beerhaus might not be in Munich but it brought back enough semblance of it for us to enjoy. While I do recommend that you actually go to the one in Germany cause it certainly and experience to remember.
Terrific authentic Bavarian beer haus in mid-Manhattan! The space is huge and found on the second floor of the building with a nice balcony overlooking Third Avenue. and is good for gathering with friends. Live music adds to the ambience. The beer and the food is very good. The staff is friendly and dress the part. Its worth a visit to grab a drink of good German beer.
After having been to almost all the traditional Bavarian places in Munich, this place initially felt like a little bit of a letdown; like a cheap American copy of an centuries-old Bavarian tradition. Yes the ladies in dirndls were there, but there was an element of added sex appeal here. Yes there was Bavarian pride in flags and banners, but it wasnt done in the traditional, humble manner. Yes there was plenty of seating here, but not in the traditional bench format that I got used to. The beer was Bavarian and good, but more expensive and not _nearly_ as good as Id hoped itd be. The band was interesting, but it felt like there was a little bit too much focus on the band and less on the interactions between the people. The food was okay, but a little bit too Americanized.Still. For being thousands of miles away from the originals, this one did do a pretty good job of reminding me what I do miss of Bavaria. A solid wave of nostalgia did hit me, and if this the best we New Yorkers can come up with of Bavaria and its fine traditions, then weve done a pretty good job of balancing Bavarian Brauhaus and Keller culture with American capitalistic might.
Fast service, no wait for our table and we had a large party of 8 adults and 2 kids. Food was really good for everyone and our waitress remembered everyones order without writing anything down or checking with us again. We actually were wondering if she would get everything right when she left at we gave a large order with appetizers and drinks and even changed some items. No mistakes. Great place and even had crayons and little games on paper to keep the kids busy
Huge boots of beer and fun German music played by a live band, whats not to love!! This place is so much fun to go with friends and has great European vibes to it. It can get pretty crowded real fast and very loud, so if youre really looking for a sit down conversation then you have to go out on the tiny balcony that they have (which also has a few seats). Ive been here a couple of times and we had so much fun every single time. Perfect place for a fun evening out with friends.
The food is good but the experience was somewhat uncomfortable. I have never been to a restaurant that asks for a credit card at the onset of the meal. I asked why they hold the card before we eat our food. The waitress said it was their policy because they have had runners in the past. Mind you it is a walk up and there is a greeter at the top of the stairs. There were only 3 tables occupied including mine. You would not have been able to run. After our meal we asked for the check. We were brought the computer to sign for the check. They did not bring an itemized receipt to review for accuracy. I had to actually ask for it so the original transaction had to be cancelled. They had already processed it because they had my card. I have been to fancier and better restaurants that have never asked for a card up front. I will never go back to this place again simply because of their policy.
Their outside setup is so cute and fun-sounding with their house music blasting! The beer was good, I got the light wheat beer and we shared the pretzel bites - half beer cheese and half Nutella. The Nutella ones were my favorite. The servers were very personable. I would def come back!
Best beer I ever had in USA! What a perfect gem in the middle of NYC where beer and food is so good youll come again. Try the hausdogs for $11 or the pretzel for less, everything here is delicious and fresh. You can sit on the deck and have fresh taste of NYC traffic and lifestyle while enjoying the German cuisine.
Came here on a Friday night with co-workers on a reservation and were immediately seated. The waitress was really nice and offered us suggestions to get us started, which I appreciated. I got the 1L boot of Hofbräu Premium Lager and the table ordered a Wilhelm Sampler Platter and Oktoberfest Platter. The drink was great, not too hoppy, which I prefer and the platters were great, especially the beer cheese on the Wilhelm. The amount of food you get on each platter definitely is worth what youre paying (38 and 45$), just look at the pictures! The interior still had Christmas decorations set up, but I prefer it that way. It wasnt too loud that I couldnt hear my coworkers and was really clean. They sometimes have board games lying around like Guess Who and giant Uno, but I couldnt find any this time around. Great experience!
A unique place to hear German polka and some German pop songs. BeerMaids were nice. It’s communal seating so don’t expect to have much. Patrons were at least nice. The people on our table were there for the game and just wanted to have a good time. Not an ideal place for a date. Definitely a place for a group of friends to have drinks and watch games or just experience something close to a German beer hall. Not a beer drinker, no problem, they make decent cocktails.
Decor is nice, and while I expected over priced food, I was still disappointed. While presented well, the food did not taste well. Schnitzel was oddly spiced with a sour taste and the spetzle was very starchy. Beer was good. Average NYC prices, server was nice. I wont be returning mostly because the food was not tastey. A positive is that kids under 10 eat free.
The atmosphere is like in Germany for the October fest, the same ladies waiters, very tasty beer, as well as German sausages, this is a direct pleasure, they took a large plate where you can taste all the sausages and snacks, I liked it very much, I really like the place, this is not the first time , if you want delicious beer and the feeling that you are in Bavaria, then this place just meets all the criteria
Cool upstairs venue and curb look. Nice place to have a beer. But their food was a big disappointment!! Their stuffed Schnitzel was tough and had an odd taste, their Spätzle tasted starchy.Huge +! , kids under 10 eat free (drink was included).Just cant get over the disappointment of food, hence 2 stars. Otherwise it would be 5.
Wonderful German beer bar. Great for groups as they have big, long tables. Patio is perfect place to chill out on a hot summer day.Lots of traditional German fare as well as German-American dishes. Wait staff is super friendly and will take good care of you.Beer tap is their own brand but they have a fully stocked bar. Definitely a great spot for a fun lunch or team outing.
I got their flight of five different beers for $11! German style beers are my favorite and they have an amazing selection! The flight is a great option if you want to sample a range and find your favorite. And the food was great.I got the Haus Dog, which was a generous portion of seasoned fries and two hot dogs with ham, pickles, cheese, onions, and sauerkraut. My friend got stuffed schnitzel with ham and cheese along with spaetzle.
If theres one thing you dont want in a German beer hall, its an empty mug. Made a reservation for a large group for my birthday and I believe our server came to our table a total of 4 times in 2 hours and only did when we flagged her down as she was attending other tables. We ordered food and it was given to another table, which is okay, it happens, but there was no follow up from our server to make sure we got our food for about an hour. Theyve also stopped giving you a free beer for your birthday :(The beer and the food still taste amazing, but the service has changed. Ive come here for my last 3 birthdays, but Im not sure I will come for my next.
We love eating out. Yesterday we visited this fine place which friends told us about. We had a delightful experience there with fine cooking and a well-trained crew and an impressive cuisine. We put this venue in our list and we shall certainly come back very soon. We warmly recommend.
Love German beer, so I was surprised when visiting here that this place existed. We went after 5 pm on a weekday. which meant that it was packed. Mostly people that had just gotten out of work, but around 7 people started to leave. Cool place if you want to relax and drink a beer.
Impeccable combination of beer food alcohol and a home away from home, courteous staff that will help you with anything even with the minor details of drinks and appetizers, Oktoberfest was the best there: you get what you pay for and you better be ready to drink your own fill and eat to prove that you are one of the mighty of the mighty inside that bar. If you ever do the quadruple jagermeister challenge you better make sure you have friends over. Fantastic environment and the ability to watch any type of sports in bar is a phenomenal Plus. Weve been there this Saturday and dont be surprised if we come back in 2 weeks from now to prove our reputation once more at the end of Oktoberfest. I look forward to seeing you guys again he better prepare as we will challenge you in your food once more. Cheers from the Bronx and Long Island City.
We came here because we were craving for Wiener Schnitzel, but were disappointed that their schnitzel was pork instead of veal. Maybe that’s why it is now called Classic Schnitzel? That aside, the quality of their schnitzel was just below par compared to those served in Bavarian beer houses and eateries. The bread crust was hard especially around the edges of the cutlet and the meat was tough and dry. The sides tasted bland, the potato salad didn’t quite have the vinegary and mustardy kick to it. We would come again for the beer, but not the schnitzel.
I gave 5 stars 2 years ago but I did not write anything. I believe this is totally unfair. The foods and drinks are great. Ambiance is perfect. And staff is really friendly. Whenever I visit, I really enjoy every minute in there. This bierhaus is the place I missed most in NYC.
What could have turned into a miserable experience and totally ruined my night was saved by Jeff who besides being an amazing bartender (filling 4 - 5 beers at once!) also noticed a fellow patron was creeping on me and handled the situation.P.S. Food and beer are really really good.
Wurst platter was good and ambiance was excellent. But they ran out of hefe weisen on tap and only had 12oz American bottles at 6:30pm on Friday. The servers seemed off as well. I’ll be back to see if it was just an off night because we all have those days.8/16/21: I’m adding a star for the supply issues as I and positive it’s a COVID connection issue or of their control. Thank you for your reply.
My hubs and I went to Bierhaus NYC while we waited for our train at grand central station. We sat upstairs, I loved the decor. No hard seltzers (bummer!) but we enjoyed the alcohol. My boo did not like the pretzel, he thought it was dry. And he did not like the patron who followed him into the bathroom. Overall, a cutesy place and a great way to spend the down time before catching a train
What a great place this is on Monday eve! Quiet, not too busy, live band, a few couples were dancing, we enjoyed the ambiance of the place fully. The beer is as fresh as it can be and the food is up to the German standard. It gets pretty busy on Friday nights, so pick the day to come here mindfully, depending on what you are looking for.
Currently sitting here.... so far the waitress took our order and never came back. Food was delivered and it was very good. The waitress checked in on us 1 time after we were done to make sure everything was OK , and the gentleman has come and cleaned up our table yet the waitress is still nowhere to be found been waiting on the check approximately 15-20 mins...thats after waiting next to the bouncer for almost ten minutes because there was no hostess.
Came by to grab beer (delicious and good selection of German style beers) and ended up staying for dinner. The food was delicious - our table got a combo of wursts and wiener schnitzel. The potato salad was only okay but the rest was great! Also, they had live music and a fun, lively atmosphere. Plenty of people around us ordered large beer boots and shot skis. Plenty of good times to go around!
Stopped by here during happy hour with some co-workers after work and ordered the grill chicken sandwich. It was delicious! Tasty chicken with thick cuts of bacon did not disappoint. Also ordered some pretzels, they were warm, soft and paired perfectly with the house sauce they recommend. Servers were also super helpful and stopped over several times to check in on us. Looking forward to my next visit!
I love this place! been coming for the Monday Jazz night just about every week for a long while. the entertainment is always A+; live band, burlesque, swing dancing. The staff is always buzzing about and helpful, love the bartender belle! she is slick behind the bar and always so friendly and hilarious. park at the bar when she is there and youll have a great time!
Its great if you are a fan of German cuisine and German beers. If thats what you into, then this the place for you. The menu relies heavily on German words so I find a bit hard to order. Prices are decent (approx. $15 for a burger). Also, the atmosphere is good and the staff is very helpful and very nice. Food wise, I cant be a good judge of flavor since not really familiar with this type of food.
Great spot for groups. My best friend and I both have had birthdays here over the years. You can reserve a picnic style table for group with a waitress service (no minimum to reserve) Menu is typical German style. Good beer selection. Live music on the weekends. Can get pretty loud, thats why I gave 4 stars.
Good service.I have been here a few times and each time has been a blast. Peppy atmosphere and live music every time we go. Great for group events because they take reservations. I suggest requesting a table away from the band, it can get a little too loud for conversations (a few liters of beer and some shot-skis usually help).Food highlights have been: the french fries, carrot cake.
I celebrated my nomination earlier this evening in this great place. I am glad to say that we enjoyed a terrific evening and the place was definitely one of the reasons for this fruitful gathering. The crew collaborated in a lovely style, the meals were great and my friends were very thrilled. We shall definitely come back again for more joyful events. thanks very much.
This place was everything we had hoped for! The wife and I had our date night here, made reservations in advance, and our spot on the bench was waiting for us when we arrived. While the band can be loud (especially seated near them) its not so uncomfortable that it ruins the time. The food was excellent, we did the 3 pretzels with the beer cheese and the chicken fingers, and then the apple streudel for dessert. The waitress was super attentive, and all in all was a fantastic time and reasonably priced.
Ive gone with my pre-teen son and also with my mother. I love their fries. Just the best. And the atmosphere is cute. And the service has always been pleasant. I cant say anything about the authenticity of the food, as Im not German. But Ive liked most of the dishes Ive ordered. We werent crazy about the stuffed schnitzel.
I love German beer halls in general so I am a bit partial. Regardless of my bias this place is still fun. Loud, even at 1p and the beer was exactly as it is in any HB Ive ever been in. Couldnt ask for a better experience. Cant wait to come back. The serving sizes were perfect (I ordered one of the sausage plates.) The patio overlooking the traffic below was cool. I found the whole atmosphere very reminiscent of any beer hall Ive ever been in while touring in Germany.
Came here for Oktoberfest beer. Didnt disappoint. They have live music and the atmosphere is good. It is a bit small so if youre going with a group then definitely make a reservation. They have balcony and smoke only section as well. Other than that it is a good place. People at the bar serve you quick.
What a fun and different stop! Stopped in here for a pre-dinner drink & bite, and love the atmosphere. Live music on a Friday night, a full house, and a tasty mix of (all light, German style) beer. The pretzel & wurst combo wasnt a ton of food, but enough to make us a bit thirstier for more beer. Very friendly staff who found us a pair of seats even though we let them know that we were not sticking around for a full meal.
I went with a colleague after work on Friday. The tables were packed so we sat by the balcony. We ordered the Haus Reuben and the Jaeigerschnitzel with loaded fries. They were delicious! We tried the haufbrau flight, which let us sample a few beers before ordering our beer of choice. The staff were amazing. They were attentive and came by to make sure everything was to our satisfaction.Bierhaus is a great place to unwind after work. I would definitely recommend it to my friends and family.
Made my way here by accident and went in for drinks after work. The ambiance, was great. The waitresses were awesome, love the German beer. You have to order the pretzel, a must! Then the band started at 7pm, so much fun!! It was a treat to have live music, great beer and nice crowd. Will have to call ahead to reserve a table for a large group, if I come with more people. Totally worth it!!
Beer. Food. Fun. All of these things I consider as the core of my visit each time. Servers ever so motivated to keep you entertained and have a bit of German fun and experience. I was here with a group who was in the NYC Veterans Day Parade. Made for a worthwhile excursion of having a cold one with the boys. Bartenders are super cool here!
Cold beer. Warm food. Pleasant conversation. I got what I was hoping for here...which was mostly sauerkraut.Nice variety of beers and lots of fresh wurst. Nice temperature upstairs the day I visited which made sitting comfortable. Free WiFi for your social media needs.Overall, the atmosphere was relaxed and just teutonic enough to be fun. Id go back!
The atmosphere and beer is great. They had some kickin live music the Sunday we were there, but the bratwurst... the bratwurst was glorified hot dogs. I dont know what else to say about them. I was very happy with the experience until they came out. Still good beer, but... the wurst made me really sad.
Love it here. Always a good time! They have live music and the atmosphere makes you feel like your in Germany. I love the food from the giant pretzels to the apple strudel with vanilla ice cream, it is all delicious. Plus they always have special events where you can win free stuff. I have been multiple times and I will be back again!
Delicious food (especially the sausages!), great beer (get the sampler with small glasses of different varieties), large portions (the black forest cake and apple streudel were MASSIVE!), authentic German (mostly Bavarian) cuisine. The only thing I didnt like personally was the atmosphere (dark, crowded, and noisy)...but this wouldnt bother a lot of people.
Very well executed, from the staff, to the entertainment, to cleanliness, decor and the taste of the food. Only reason a star is missing is price. German food is generally very inexpensive. Beer, brats, wings and bretzels somehow cost two of us almost $200. Sure, its NYC, but still...
One of my favorite places to come! Super lively with music and the staff is very helpful. The potato salad and the sausages are delicious. The beers are great and def have to try the 2 Liter Boot! Great place for after work drinks, still have to try the brunch tho lol
Great German beer hall in the heart of midtown. They have a great selection of Hofbräu, but no other kinds of German beer. Keep that in mind. The service is ok. Our waitress was a bit hard to flag down at times, she seemed a bit overwhelmed with the number of tables she had. The pretzel was warm and soft.
Been to this place a few times in large groups. Dig the large servings of beer and the food is pretty good for whats essentially meat, meat and an ocean of salty pretzels. You arent going to be blown away by food but this is a beer hall, not a restaurant. Clean bathrooms and live music are nice but it does get pretty loud in this place during prime hours. If you want a big spot in midtown (with midtown prices) then drop on in. Explore the beer options, theres a good amount.
Live band was incredibly loud. My 11 year old daughter even thought so. One section was Country Roads, not what I expected for a German restaurant - expected an oompa band at the least. Grilled sausage appetizer was respectable but potato salad was extremely bland. Entrees were overcooked along with the red cabbage. Waitress immediately took order and delivered drinks but never returned after entree arrived. Couldnt wait to pay check and leave. Disappointed! Shouldve gone to a steak house.
Great beer. Decent food. A waitress asked me Do you need change? Im aware that everyone who does a job expects to earn money. It was inappropriate way to ask for a tip. How could a sane person paying for 30$ with 100$ bill doesnt want change ??? Im a great tipper but I hate when the waitress ask me this. Just bring me my change and let me leave you a tip.
Fantastic place for drinks after work. Bring a huge bunch of people! There are large bench tables with seating for up to 12 people (10 if you work in IT, or 14 if you work in fashion). The food is great, and the polka band is great too, but could run their speakers a notch or two lower. Were there to enjoy each others company after all, not be deafened by 80s a d 90s cover polka.
Ahhhh Bierhaus is awesome!! Monday nights, when they hold Jazzhaus, are the absolute best. Im not really one for going out in midtown, but Monday nights at Bierhaus are fantastic and always worth a visit. Great music and swing dancing, terrific performances, good drink specials, and friendly staff - especially Belle, the most badass and awesome bartender ever!! The management is also super fun - I approached them about having a burlesque dancer pop out of a giant cake for my husbands birthday and they were so flexible and accommodating with this crazy request. It was certainly memorable, and I am so grateful to this place for it!

2022-06-22This German resturant is very laid back and has a fun atmosphere. Waitresses wear German outfits and everything looks very rustic. They do have TVs all through out for games on different screens so that’s also fun. There is a small balcony that faces the street which is cool.Have been here twice already, and always enjoy it a lot on a relaxing night with friends. First time I ordered the Cauliflower soup which was delicious and second time a bacon burger.****Their potato chips are wayyyyy better than their french fries. 😉Great prices and great service!

2022-04-25As someone who has German heritage and has been in Germany, this is an interesting take on it. It has a bier tent vibe but the food is not up to par. The bier was good, and its fun for groups. If you want authentic, look elsewhere.

2022-06-14We visited for both happy hour and again for dinner. The happy hour is top notch. Food is great. Service great. Feels Austrian/German. Bier is German, and the food is also German/American.

2022-06-16Solid Munich/Oktoberfest-esque beer hall perfectly located in East Midtown. 3 blocks from Grand Central & easy to find. The atmosphere was laid back, the beer was perfect, and the food is pretty massive for the portions. Its strange that a sit-down restaurant asks for a card upfront, which makes it feel more like a bar & tab situation. Nevertheless I can absolutely see myself coming back when friends come into town & they are looking for a easy respite from the midtown chaos.

2022-03-14Nice place and the Jägerschnitzel is quite good. Its a try at a Bavarian beer hall, which isnt typical German.Staff is nice and prices are higher because its Manhattan.Biggest drawback are the long stairs to get in. Dont drink too much or you end up with broken bones trying to get down those stairs. Also, if you are handicapped it seems you are out of luck.

2021-09-28We attended the Friday night Oktoberfest. The food was good , we enjoyed 5 appetizers. Beers were giant as we ordered the liter size beers. The band got us up out of our seats to sing along and dance.A keg tapping was in order and a round of beers from that keg for anyone who wanted one. Additionally a roast pig was brought out of the kitchen and a small plate of pork was provided to anyone who desired some .Great night out . Been there before and will definitely return.

2022-06-15Great place. Funny I used to work over in the area but never been here. Good service, great drinks, and great food! Wings were great and so was this hot dog they had!
