A geat way to get your bearings in New York on your first full day. Our guide was very friendly and so enthusiastic about NY. Like all visitors, we had a list of things to see and do during our stay but it was so helpful just to ride the subway or the bus to see where places are located for future reference (eg Bryant Pk. or the Plaza Hotel food hall)We spent about five hours with our greeter, had a ot of fun and couldnt wait to explore this wonderful city.
Informing myself before leaving, I decided to book a day with a New York greeter. Greeters are a kind of guide who live in New York and are in love with the big apple (and how to blame him!). Based on the neighborhoods you want to visit, they match you to a character who normally lives there.Never choice was more apt! It was a wonderful day with Steve, our guide. If you choose to rely on the Big Apple Greater association, consider booking at least one month before departure.
So far I was a big fan of this organization, but after donating for 4 years now, I no longer get guides. So free only up to a certain point. The guides work for free, you cant even give out coffee, but the organization wants to make money ... then you should just say that ... but thats hypocritical.

2022-06-10Highly recommend this experience! As family of 5 with elementary school kids, we met up with Greeter Bonnie to visit the Upper West side and had a great time. We wanted a local NYC experience. Based on the rest of our NYC itinerary, Bonnie showed us a part of NYC that we would have never seen. For 3.5 hours, we walked the neighborhood streets and parks, absorbed the energy and history of NYC, and learned about the life experience of a New Yorker. We felt that Boonie helped us see a tiny bit of the real New York City. Loved it!

2022-06-03Cannot recommend Big Apple Greeter enough! We had a wonderful experience with our greeter who took us on a water ferry, showed us around the Upper East Side, and found us a wonderful Italian place for lunch. We enjoyed the water ferry so much we took it again later in our trip. One of the highlights of our trip for sure!

2022-04-09Had a lovely day with my Greeter Michelle. We visited Brooklyn Bridge, Grand Central terminal, Wall St, Bryant Park, 911 Memorial and a few other places. It was a most enjoyable day to learn some of the history of NYC from Michelle. Thank you!

2022-02-16Jeff was our Big Apple greeter and cannot recommend him highly enough. Friendly and very informative. We saw parts of New York not on the tourist trail and thoroughly enjoyed our time with Jeff.

2021-12-09David was our greeter. He was absolutely amazing showing us the High Line, Chelsea market, and Eataly. He also showed us many sites along the way. I would definitely recommend Big Apple Greeters when you are in NYC.

2019-07-31A truly marvelous non-profit organization! Any visitor to New York City who wants a unique and memorable experience should reach out to this no cost service in advance of their trip. Their experienced greeters, all of whom are volunteers and veteran New Yorkers, offer the visitor an insider look at the many things that the city has to offer.
