Big Daddys in other cities:
Great Cajun food without having to travel south of the Mason Dixon line. Classic cocktails with a spin, a true rotating daily special menu, oh and they have gator too! Hope you like it spicy! I once took a date here and she liked it so much that she applied for a job (Im not even joking).
Big Daddys is amazing. The first time I was there was in the 90s. My family and I have always been so happy with the food and service. I just recently ordered a large catering order for a party at my house. Everything was amazing and every guest was blown away with the food!Thank you everyone who helped with the order! From Ryan who took the order to the chefs who prepared everything and everyone in-between. I had this order delivered and the guys who took the delivery were so professional with the food setup it was greatly appreciated! Thanks to all at Big Daddys!
I ordered dinner from Grubhub for my husbands bday that was about $180. Asked to put the gravy on the side for the chicken fried steak and paid for blue cheese for the wings, no dressing and gravy not on the side.... so the steak was very soft and the gravy was coming out of the sides of the container. For the dessert...it was in the bag with hot food and were pure liquid!!! Gave 4 stars because my husband loves this place.
Omg what an amazing restaurant! Between the food, drinks, & service...5 stars all the way!Located in Massapequa, there is limited parking in the area. They have outdoor tables and a tent set up which takes up the majority of the parking lot. There is street parking close by.Inside, there is a large bar, and tables scattered throughout. They take reservations on Opentable. When I arrived, I was immediately greeted at the door and seated. I loved the decor and theme of the restaurant. The prices are wonderful. Drinks range from $10-$13. Food is reasonably priced and the portions are HUGE! Even desserts weren’t a killer on the wallet. The service was top notch. Our server Lindsay was super friendly and attentive. We were given a carafe of water for the table which was refilled often. She also gave soda refills and offered other drink refills. She kept checking on the table. The ticket times were awesome. All of the food came out at a steady pace. The drinks were delicious. I had a Bloody Mary which wasn’t overly spicy, but the Choking Doberman was extremely spicy (which I enjoyed). The Hurricane drink was delicious! 5 out of 5 stars on all of the drinks. & Free soda refills. The food was so good! If your a fan of spicy flavorful foods, this place is for you! Some of the dishes weren’t spicy, but the majority of them were (which I loved). The portions were great. Everything came out hot & fresh! I will be reviewing what I tried:-Complimentary fresh bread & herb butter, delicious!-Mussels Lucifer: Wow these were so tasty. The broth was spicy and full of flavor. The mussels were cooked perfectly. I took some of the bread and dipped into that amazing broth. 5 out of 5 stars-Pretty Megs Wings: These were cooked to perfection! The sauce had a little zing to it but nothing crazy. The chipotle sauce was out of sight. 5 out of 5 stars-Chicken Fried Steak: Wow I’m so happy I chose this entree. The fried steak was delicious, the sausage gravy was delectable, and the cheddar mashed potatoes were out of sight. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. 5 out of 5 stars-Blackened Ribeye from Hell: Yes this is 100% worth the $$. This steak was huge and cooked perfectly! Make sure to bring your appetite for this behemoth. The rub was a little spicy and packed with flavor. The collard greens were some of the best I’ve ever had. 5 out of 5 stars-PB&J Pie: No wonder this is famous! This was so delicious. I can’t wait to get it again. 5 out of 5 stars-Chocolate Layer Cake: Big fan of layer cakes, and this one didn’t disappoint! 5 out of 5 stars-Bananas Foster: My fiancé’s dessert was brought to the table and I could not resist. It looked so good that I had to try a bite. It tasted as good as it looked. 5 out of 5 starsOverall, my first trip to Big Daddy’s was a memorable one. I can’t wait to come back. I’m planning on coming during the Wednesday Prime Rib special next!
Came here for a birthday party we were about 25 people. The food is delicious. I had the trout and it was amazing. The wings were really yummy. At first they weren’t sure if they could accommodate our party even with reservations but we eventually got the extra table we needed. Service was fast and efficient. Definitely good Cajun food so many choices and portions are large.
I always love coming to Big Daddy’s. Their portions are big (you pay a fair price) and it’s delicious. It’s greatly appreciated their menu is a mix of standard fare and seasonal dishes. I don’t like ordering the same thing twice, but the one thing that does not disappoint are the wings, the drinks, and the jambalaya. Come here with a big appetite because they are going to satisfy.
Always delicious, cajun style food. On my most recent visit it was a beautiful day and it was nice to be able to sit outside. They had servers/bus boys designated to the outside seating, so service was attentive and quick! They had frozen drinks when we visited and the BlackBerry Frozé was delicious. Some of our favorite dishes are: Gumbo, Vieux Carre Pork and Waffles, Pretty Meg Wings, and Pasta Jambalaya.Check the daily Specials, if they have the Chicken Pinwheels with Cajun Stuffing and Jalapeño Gravy, it is absolutely delicious and I 100% recommend it.
Came here for lunch, I dont have Cajun often and wanted a Po boy. The decor inside is a little dated / tacky feeling; like a 70s Louisiana bar.I tried the gator kebob appetizer, it was good, but the portion couldve been bigger for its price. I really enjoyed the fries that came with the Po boy. I ordered a blackened cat fish Po boy. The flavor wasnt bad, but overall I thought it was a little too soft texturally. Our waitress was great and the service was on point and brought the entire experience up a point.
Moved to NY last year after 20plus years in NOLA, been to many restaurants that advertised cajun/creole, they missed the mark. Big Daddys NAILED IT! Excellent food! Good flavor, and seasoning, large portions on the entrees. We were there for lunch so didnt get the full menu, but will be back very soon!
Even if I didnt work as a chef at Big Daddys for a short time, Id still give this place 5 stars. The food was amazing long before I worked there and remains amazing long after Ive been gone. Chef Craig is not only a great guy, but also a very creative and talented Executive Chef. I wanted to work there because I was a fan of their food and I left there with great experience and an even better culinary knowledge.Big Daddys is one of a handful of places on Long Island that serves authentic pit-smoked barbecue. Their smoker is consistently putting out some of the best traditional barbecue youll find up North. In addition to their finger-lickin good bbq, they have authentic Cajun and Creole dishes straight from the heart of the bayou. Their homemade gumbo, fried gator and broiled oysters are some of my favorite appetizers. And you wont find better crawfish, catfish or jumbalaya dishes in New Orleans.Big Daddys also a Sunday Brunch that you should not miss, served with complimentary cocktails that start your day off with a buzz. And more than being known for their pit barbecure and southern food, theyre even more known for their portion sizes. You will not leave this place hungry! The portions are more than generous!!Last but not least, the cocktails!! Their Hurricanes are better than any youll have at a Pat OBriens. Theyre drink sizes are just as large as their portion sizes.Go to Big Daddys for the food, the drinks and the experience!Laissez les bon temps rouler!!
This was the best damn Cajun food Ive had in decades! The blackened gator appetizer was spicy and delicious. The creole jambalaya was seasoned to perfection with enough bite to make my eyes water just a bit.The catfish, blackened, with a horseradish cream sauce, was tender inside and beautifully crisp outside. This is a must for Cajun, creole, or spicy food lovers!!
New Orleans Cajun food on Long Island that is legit. I shared the pig out (a little bit of BBQ everything) and it was excellent. The portions are big and service was great. You may even be lucky enough to watch a live New Orleans music band play. This hole in the wall from the outside is a true gem on the inside.
Brunch on Saturday was a hit for our group of 9 seated outside. Unlimited drinks for $20 with a very cool brunch menu thats not just your average eggs and bacon. We were able to get po boys, burnt ends, and meatpiles on a waffle. Service was top notch, well be looking to do this again.
Awesome place Tommy and the entire staff are very professional. Been going for a bunch of years now and really love the weekly specials and can’t get enough of the Vicksburg’s. Sunday brunch at the bar with Kristin and the band is always a great way to end the weekend.
The atmosphere was fun and the waitresses were extremely friendly and helpful. I came in with a couple friends, off a recommendation. Never tried cajun food on long island before. We decided to try the gator, none of us had ever tried alligator meat before. To be honest it was a huge disappointment, the appetizer cost 14 dollars and it was literally one kabob of meat. The meat was tough and chewy and over sauced. It was such a small portion for the price.Next i got a blackened shrimp po boy which did taste pretty good. The fries were a bit soft and too salty. For the price however, i felt the meal was lacking. Overseasoned, overpriced food that didnt taste very fresh. What saved this from being a one star is the great wait staff.
Years ago came to BD a couple times a year. Always amazing. Back in 2008, I took coworker to BD for lunch. My co worker said he’d drive out from the Bronx to eat the Cajun Burger! I finally got back after many years away and SADLY this is not the Cajun Burger I remember. The Bun is so so and untoasted, the burger, which I order MR, tasted like a prepackaged boiled pattie, and the burnt sausage was skimpy. I don’t know about the rest of the menu but if you cant prepare afresh burger then I’m out. I’m embarrassed I recommended this place over past 5 years. Sad
A slight taste of New Orleans, Mardi Gras type of vibe. The food is primary based on Nawlens lol food. This was my second time here. They have a childrens menu. The food is definitely filling and then some lol The server remembered us from the last time and was nice. Clean place with happy hour and a bar. Parking is okay, theres a parking lot in the back.In the pictures below is the main dinner, pulled pork with waffles and fries. Dessert was a warm brownie with Carmel vanilla ice cream. We also had 3 appetizers, mussels, crab cakes and chicken wings. I forgot what was the name of the drink but it was refreshing not overly liquored. This time is was a party of 6 and they also seated handicap.
Long wait for table well worth it! Fantastic food, served fast from ordering. Large portions. Lively loud bar party atmosphere. Comfortable seating. Reasonably priced entries, overpriced bar. Family oriented as well. Dining tables are away from the bar. Bar has TVs tuned to sports. Parking can be challenging do prepare for a two block walk. But the food and atmosphere are well worth it! Pig out platter below.
My wife and I have been trying to go here for years because we had heard nothing but positive things about it. Well let me tell you we were not disappointed. We started off sharing an alligator kebab type thing. It was a little pricier than I would have liked at $15 for one kebab, but it was really delicious. I ordered the creole jambalaya and my wife ordered the blackened catfish. If you like creole food and spicy things in general then you are going to love this place. Also most weekend nights they have live music. Definitely going to go back here and try some more things.
New Orleans style cooking to the Tee, but without having to go to Louisiana. Cant say more than that... except for bringing on the heat is just what this place is all about. Try the bbq wangs, the jalapeno corn bread, blackened catfish, jambalaya, need I say anymore? Okay gumbo, there you go, to Big Daddys, enjoy! Oh ask for Hanna great waitress very attentive and pleasant.
Food was very top notch, most of the dishes are spicy in some way but not all. Service could have been a little better (got zero refill checks) but the food really made up for it. New go to spot for cajun/creole food or anything with a little kick. Bar was pretty lively too. A good spot for sure.
Crawfish tails with a spicy peanut butter sauce. As a Louisiana native, Ive never had crawfish with a unique flavor like this, its usually a crawfish ettouffe or a Gumbo.. Spice was on point :) Waitstaff was great, sweet, professional, nice, and very attentive, just like if you were in the South!! Wish there were more establishments with this superb service.
During our Long Island trip to visit my nephew and his lovely family, we stopped here to eat.It all started on a Friday afternoon; we were driving on Sunrise Highway, we stopped at a traffic light and my wife looked to her left and saw a sign that said Big Daddys New Orleans Cuisine. We were immediately intrigued and interested. We made the decision to eat there that evening.Later in the evening we called to make reservations, Juliette told us they dont take reservations and it will be a 30-40 minute wait, but she was kind enough to take my name & number down so that she can call me when ready. We waited outside parked, it wasnt a long wait when we got the go ahead to enter the restaurant. As soon as you step inside you get a Happy and Festive vibe. The staff are very friendly and cordial. My wife got us a dozen Oysters and their Gumbo for appetizers. The Oysters tasted fresh, the Gumbo was hearty and bursting with flavor. For entrees, she ordered the Louisiana Shrimp and Grits, it was Superb!! I opted for the Jambalaya, Oh WOW! What a delicious and delightful Jambalaya! Full of meat and shrimp. Both our meals were huge portions, enough for us to take back home and eat twice more.I am so glad that wifey looked to her left that Friday and noticed this fantastic Cajun restaurant. Next time we visit my nephew, we will definitely eat there again and try their other meals.
Was here 3 years ago and the mussels app was great, main course was not flavorful (shrimp & grits) and the beignets were not cooked properly. Recently, went back for a second chance and was even more disappointed. The mussels recipe was not the same and all the mains were lacking. Conclusion- far too expensive for disappointing food.
Best place for New Orleans cajun! I highly recommend the jambalaya, and catfish. Their menu changes often, but they keep the popular dishes on there. They like to swap out between 2 different menus, so dont worry if your dish isnt on there itll be back in a few days. If you have a dish you liked there, you can always call ahead to see if its on tonight. Sometimes theyll even prepare the dish just for you if you give them enough notice.
This is a beautifully hidden jem that totally surprised me. A friend of mine has been raving about this place for such a long time that I just had to drive out and check it out. It is a traditional dive bar restaurant, but the people working there are wonderful and the music playing when I was there was all country--all day...luvd it!Ok so I started with a glass of good bourbon and some Gumbo...to taste. Ok I was all in...I ordered a Creole Jambalaya...now I wanted it to melt the long drive in...but it wasnt that hot ...it was good and spicy..just not melt your mouth spicy...lolBut it was ummm so good, and yummy..I know I will be back a lot more. The portions are huge...I ate half and took the other 2 pounds to go. So the price was well worth it. Keep in mind I am a really good eater..but it was more than I could do. Crystal took care of me and she offered a welcoming hello and was very helpful my entire time there. So make sure you say Hi.I highly recommend this place for a good night out or as a great get together with friends...you may just fall for this place like I did.
We ordered for pick up: 4 different meals, 3 on the menu one special (Cajun Salmon with habanero grits and spinach). All the meals were huge portions, we have leftovers. The flavors are delicious and the service was so fast! So glad we tried this place, it was delicious Cajun comfort food!
Lived around the block my whole life and I can say every time I have ordered from them, I have never been disappointed. Their recipes are always executed perfectly and hit every spice craving I have. The Diablo Wings and the Shrimp and Grits are some of my favorites. Even the Caesar salad is unique with a dressing that I can truly say is one of my favorites. The dressing has a slight spice and tang that I can’t find anywhere else and it makes the salad feel fancy! They also never fail to cook their meat and seafood to absolute perfection!
Ill be dinning at over 50 restaurants by years end throughout Nassau, Suffolk and Queens county. No.10 lacks curb appeal but the menu looked intriquing. Friendly environment and waitresses that were very accomodating. Now heres where the fun begins. I had the grits and burnt ends and it did not dissapoint. Filling and full of flavor. There was a live band as well which was an added perk. Upgrade the sound system and this place is a a perfect 10 despite being a little on the pricey side.
The food is absolutely flavorful. Ambiance is great. Staff is very attentive. I didnt give 5 star because I wasnt able to experience their drink menu. Currently on a physique challenge and was counting calories. So im unable to give honest review drink wise. Other than that this place has for sure earned my business and will coming back to experience more of the menu.
The food here exceeded my expectations. Everything was incredible from the bread and butter to the cocktail and the prime rib special I had with garlic mashed potatoes. I give this place a solid 10/10 with quality of food. The atmosphere is slightly outdated but still comfortable. I enjoyed the live music and friendly waitstaff. Definitely coming back again!!
Being from Louisiana I was highly disappointed. I was lucky to have 8 shrimp on my po-boy thats 4 on each half. A original shrimp po-boy (dressed) lettuce, tomato, (good ole Blue Plate) mayonnaise and deep fried with a good crunch. I even made sure to ask for L,T,M I was told thats how it came and it definitely didnt.A shrimp po-boy is not fried with cornmeal and does not and never has had purple cabbage. This is a place that should advertise as New York style Cajun Cusine and BBQ. I would of never paid $18 or even $5 for what was suppose to be a Shrimp po-boy.
This is the best Cajun cuisine outside of New Orleans. There are always new and interesting specials that never disappoint. They also have amazing BBQ. I would recommend the big pig out to share with the table. Sundays they do a Jazz brunch starting at 11 which is a totally unique spin on your typical breakfast fare.
Yummy. The mussels appetizer was fantastic and very shareable for 3 adults. asked for extra bread cause we didnt want to waste the spicy garlicky mussel broth! Generous portions, creole spices were spot on. Cosy casual dining. Wonderful friendly attentive staff. Cant wait to go back!
I used to be a big fan of this place. Tonights dinner experience left alot to be desired. The drink recipes were off. The dishes were inconsistent from table to table. My favorite crawfish dish was dry with very little sauce. The same dish brought out later was covered with sauce. Very disappointed.
Big Daddys came highly recommended, and being a huge fan of Cajun cuisine from New Orleans I had high expectations for this place. However, I cant say that the expectations were met. The food selection is pretty pricey, and the food and drinks I ordered were mediocre at best, nothing really Cajun infused about it in terms of presentation or seasoning. I probably wont be returning here, though they have great potential, I think the owners should return to New Orleans and then try their food again and taste the difference!
We are so regulars🤗 They know our drinks of choice along with seltzer instead of water.Tonight my husband tried the bone in southern fried chicken. Perhaps a little too crunchy with the coating. Good flavor!I always enjoy the mussels with white wine & garlic. The staff is delightful!!!!!
Great southern style food! If you are not a fan of spicy, do not say mild. My mother did that, they gave her dish and said that it was mild. When asking for them to make it less spicy, for medical reasons... she was charged for two meals. I enjoy spice but didnt expect to have cayenne pepper in my fruity mixed drink. Besides that, everything was great. Again, if you like spicy southern food it is great!
Awesome awesome awesome! My first time trying cajun food so i didnt have much to compare it to but the food did not disappoint. Super flavorful! The broiled oysters rocked and the pulled pork was nice and moist. Before we even got there, I was impressed with the fact that the menu changes daily, meaning fresh food every time. The staff was attentive and the service was above excellent; you could tell that they love where they work. The drinks were the icing on the cake. We will definitely be back!
Outstanding food and great staff. Love the Jambalaya for dinner, but there are countless of other items on the menu to experience which make you keep coming back for more. Specialty drinks catered to each day make choosing something when you dont know what you want very easy. Place is packed on the weekends and nice to see the extra space made inside for more diners. Live band is always a nice touch for the date night like my wife and I. Always look forward to coming back !
Simply amazing food. Theres nothing more to say about it. Its one of the few restaurants that has me asking for more time with the menu whenever I visit, its just too hard to decide!Service is quick and everyone there is friendly. There has been love music every time Ive gone, and its always a great performance. Cant recommend this place enough. Parking can sometimes be further than youd like but Id walk miles through knee-deep snow just to eat an appetizer here.
I’m absolutely obsessed with this place after one visit! Our waitress was wonderful and fully accommodated my dietary needs by offering me different options to replace a sauce i could not have. The spicy gravy was insane! The crawfish was delicious and i had probably the best fried chicken I’ve had in my life! Hopefully they get the attention they deserve and are able to expand into a bigger space. We will Deff be coming back!
I had probably passed this place close to a million times before I had stopped in on the advice of my friends. And I had never been so glad. Everything from the drinks, to the atmosphere to the food is absolutely great. Its a southern style, Cajun roots, barbecue esque joint that is at the top of its tier. I wish I could give you something specific to order, but honestly everything on the menu is delicious. Buyer beware though, this place fills very fast and can lead to pretty long waits, and parking is tough to come by so make sure to come early.
I’ve always liked the place. Been going there for years. The food gets a 5 star, but what went down on Friday, Jan. 11th was atrocious. One of the two barmaids (not Kristin) stole my change off the bar while I was watching the band, around $13 (after putting down a $20). I didn’t make a big stink. She could have thought that was a tip, although I still had a beer in my hand and my phone was on the bar. Then the next beer I get I have a $10 bill sitting there and a few minutes later I’m looking right at her and she just swiped the $10 and threw it behind the register (a tip jar back there, I assume)I called her out and she just walked away. I told Kristin and she got it back for me. Pretty shady whoever that was behind the bar that night.
Made us wait over 45 minutes to be seated in a half empty restaurant. Some liked the food, the ribs were delicious, but my meal was so spicy I couldnt finish it. The waiter came to our table 3 times, when you serve spicy food sometimes you need a refill of your drink, which I never received. Wasnt a happy experience.
I dont want to tell everyone how good it is because I dont want more people going there. Great drinks! Sometimes live music. Spicy and delicious. You wont find these dishes anywhere else. Bernie the bartender is the best. One of a kind great place for friends and family!
Put some south in your mouth. Best Cajun food north of New Orleans. A Daily Menu that is always evolving so be sure to check it online and see what you want. They know how to cook with spice that brings flavor from the gumbo and wings to the crawfish and grits to the pie for dessert. Good with large groups, kids welcome, nice Bar and usually live music on the weekends. If you have never been you should go.
First time coming here. I had reserved a table, because i wasnt sure about the wait on a Friday night. I was sure happy that i did do that because there wasnt even a place to park!. They had live loud music, but we sat towards the back of the restaurant so it wasnt too bad. We ordered the gator, and it was spicy! Very spicy. I had the Pork PoBoy and it was dry and requested more sauce. My husbands jambalaya was extremely spicy but tasty. Overall we wont be coming back. But it was worth the try
Cajun food this good isnt supposed to exist outside Louisiana! Love this place. The food isnt even the best part, you can feel how closely knit the staff is here in just one visit. Not to mention the atmosphere is so genuine you could actually forget for a moment that youre over a thousand miles from NO.
Dont let the looks of this restaurant dissuade you from trying it out. From the outside it just looks like a dive bar sitting under the train tracks. The food however is no joke. Both the barbeque and the cajun/Creole food were great. The prices on the menu may look a little high but the food is top quality and the portion size is large enough to take half home for the next day. Highly recommend!
Yummy yummy food. Love to eat here never ever in all the years Ive been frequenting here have had a bad meal. Now that the place is bigger there is never really a wait like the used to be. There is always new staff but thats the nature of the business. So sometimes the staff may be new. The bar is small but comfortable the decor is that of New Orleans so you feel your someplace there. There is only a single ladies room but Ive only waited for the bathroom once.
By far the BEST place to eat! Every bite takes you on a trip of flavors! They have many options with changing menus all the time. The staff are the nicest and quickest Ive ever met! I come here ATLEAST once a month. If spicy is your thing come here! If not, the chefs will accommodate you to your taste buds! Definably recommend the pasta jambalaya!
NOT IMPRESSED I went to Big Daddys for the first time excited about having an authentic Creole cuisine experience. I was so disappointed. The seafood Etouffe was disgustingly bland and unseasoned. I had to ask for the sweetened (tasted like teriyaki) glaze my friend had with her salmon, in order to give my entree flavor. I ordered the pegs chicken wings to start and they were fried too hard and the glaze was lightly flavored but not that sweet. poor menu choice. I am willing to give them one more try with a different menu item just because of the courteous service.
A buddy of mine who lives in the area took me there after work one Saturday. The food was excellent, and plentiful, I ended up taking some home, and it made another meal. The Wait Staff was good, attentive. As it was New Orleans style fcuisine I opted for the Hurricane for my drink. Delicious, BUT.....I warn you, they taste great, but they sneak up on you...WHEW. I highly recommend you try them.
Big Daddy’s is one of my favorite restaurants on Long Island. Deluxe Hurricane is the drink of drinks!!! Gumbo is always changing and always amazing. Wednesday night has got the best special(in my opinion) smoked prime rib (insert picture of Homer Simpson drooling). Love love love this place.
I was so excited to come here but I was disappointed, the staff was great but the food is terribly bland. Being that this a southern restaurant I was surprised that my chicken was not seasoned at all!! Not even with salt and pepper! I got the chicken and waffles, it was fried with absolutely nothing on it. I gave 3 stars because the staff was nice and they had live music which was nice, but I dont think I will go there again because after all I came to eat lol
This place is awesome!! Had $15 Mon. Night entrees, one warning, they have a LOUD band, most Thursday nights, this was pre- Mardi gras, so: an exception. I like the chicken, but most dishes are spicy, so its good to ask the server for options, AND: they have bananas foster!! I loved that the band pulled a friend out to sing with them, and its decorations are with beads!! Service was fast & efficient, but, my group couldnt hear each other talk. Bathrooms were two gender (one for men, one for women), and clean, parking was tight. Green, yellow, and purple everything on the walls, they have a FULL bar, if you like that, but, not on a Monday night...
Ive been going to Big Daddys since back in 1996 when original owners JP and Loretta owned it. Things changed (and not for the better) when they sold it 13(ish?) years ago, but it was still the best of its kind and I kept going. Now Im afraid its well past its prime. While the staff is great, the portions have gotten smaller and the quality of the food is inconsistent, at best. Some of my favorite dishes just arent prepared as well as they used to be. Some of the newer offerings seem inspired when you read them on the menu, but when tasted, they fell flat. Plus, Im not a fan of waiting for over an hour for a meal that is just ok. So sad and disappointing.
If you like spicy, Cajun cuisine this is the place for you. From drinks to appetizers to main courses to dessert, Big Daddys impresses even the most advanced palate. Start off with the gator kebobs served with a delicious red vinegar slaw that completes this eccletic southern dish. The BBQ wings are smoked and then quick friends for a crispy texture unlike any other. The shrimp and goat cheese grits were my personal favorite entree. However, blackened catfish and country fried steak are more must haves. And be sure to hear the specials. An almond encrusted salmon made the evening. Finally, the dessert menus is short and sweet. We samples all three choices and each was better than the next. Portions were hearty and we all had a bag to bring home. Big Daddys is Cajun done right!
They should get a Michelin star for their Cajun food. My boyfriend says its the best jambalaya hes ever had. I have to be gluten free due to celiac, and they always take good care of me. The Savannah Moon blackened chicken is my go-to fave but I also love the hot wings. Hurricanes are sweet and, if you ask for the deluxe, quite strong. Go there.
Met up with friends at this place 1st time there, never again. service was horrible, very unprofessional, we were asked to leave after we were served our food due to table being supposedly reserved, when we were seated there by a host/waitress. was never stated to us we have another table for you but was suggested to leave or sit at the bar. Ive been to many restaurants, bars, lounges and never have I ever been treated with such racist behavior.
Have been wanting to come here for a while now. Finally made it and I will say I will be back. Anthony our waiter was really great. He really knew his stuff and had such a friendly spirit. He made some great recommendations. We had the porterhouse steak with shrimp and grits. At first I thought the grits was going to be lumpy by the looks but it wasnt at all. It was soooo delicious. My steak was made perfectly, medium well. He also recommended a peanut butter and jelly pie. I was doubtful at first but figure what the heck, go for it. It was shockingly good. Once again, I would be coming back and would like Anthony to be our waiter again. Went to the Big Daddys East twice and they need to step it up compare to Big Daddys in Massapequa, the original Big Daddys.
No watered-down drinks here. Bartender will make it the est you like it. Flavor is not dumbed down for the tourists either. True cajun cooking with all the spices and the heat at the correct levels. So if you see spicy on a menu item, expect spicy food. Delicious! Have yet to find a dish there I didnt like. Live music, great table service.
We hired Big Daddys for our wedding and we were amazing! They were cheaper than a fancy plate service dinner, but Id say the food was significantly better than any other options we came across! We got major compliments from family and friends. Tommy was very easy to work with, accommodating, and made our day as stress free as possible.
Good Cajun food and drinks. Spicy here means spicy. Including Pat OBriens Hurricanes {was a little light on the flavor mix} and Cyclones. Loses one star for a 25 minute wait past our reservation time. Made all the more hanous for the fact that our party of 4 had to wait when there was an open table for 6 and the 5 people with that reservation were late. Not even so much as an apology or complimentary drink.
Awesome BBQ thats different from all other typical long island BBQ chains. The sauce is vinegar based with a good bite to it. A sample platter with lots to try is the way to go here when you get the BBQ. If your looking for something more they also have a constantly changing menu of luisiana classics and other southern inspired dishes. I did have an issue once with an item that is keeping them from 5 stars although i wont go into detail but it was enough to lose a star on what otherwise is a great local resturant. Check it out for bar drinks and live music events as well. Definately worth a night out.
The best Cajun food outside of NOLA, and I am not kidding.Been there several times since finding out about this place, and I can not get enough of their gumbo (no to spicy) and jambalaya (spicy, and possibly very spicy depending on the batch, which was still amazing)Great drinks, god live music when they have it, and great atmosphere.I would also recommend the blackened catfish.
Great food and service. Favorite Cajun food spot on Long Island. Excellent cocktails and lots of heat in the food if you want spicy.Update 8/5/19Still 5 stars *****Everything was top notch. Tried many items. Gumbo, wings fried oysters and Dr Johns pasta ( smoked Turkey, andoullie sausage smoked tasso ham, peas and penne in a brown jalapeno gravy was outstanding. Mollies blackened catfish a d the Pig Out BBQ were also outstanding. Cant wait to go back!
Never had a bad meal here. Its our go to restaurant. A little pricey but very good. Most important Bernie makes the best Geicos10/4/Ok I love this place but what are the owners doing??? 1st of all Happy hour on a Friday from 3-6??? Most people cant get to Happy hour till 5:30. Ok fine, we usually miss happy hour then but what about the music??? And now you take away the complementary chaffing dish. Really??? You are now having another happy hour starting at 9 and then you have music?? This is massapequa. We go there to see friends, hang out and make new friends. We do not do this at 9pm. Why change something that has been working for years. You raise the prices, make the portions smaller and now your regulars arent even coming in. Please go back to the way it was. We love this place and want to keep going there. We enjoyed the music, the good food and the people. Stop trying to be the big guy and go back to being g the place we all loved to go to!!!! Please, please, please.
Our first time here, highly recommended by friends. My husbandwas stationed in NOLA for 3 years, we both have a lot of experience eating Cajun. We walked in to this very, clean adorable place. Staff is very friendly and welcoming. Our server (Im sorry I forgot her name) has over 10 years at this establishment, was sweet, knowledgeable, a huge asset to this restaurant! She was handling every aspect while we were there...phone, bartending, serving, managing, she did it all, and did it well! They are so lucky to have her. Food was absolutely delicious! We had 2 orders of broiled oysters, a shrimp poboy, and andouille Mac & cheese... a perfect meal! My favorite drink was the habenero infused tequila margarita, a must have! I cant wait to go back again!
Had their brunch today. The food and service was good but the complimentary bloody Mary or mimosa were awful. Bloody Mary was more like a cocktail sauce for dipping your shrimp and mimosa was not champagne and orange juice. I think it was orange juice and Seltzer with maybe some vodka? Very strange.
Never disappoints! Blackened Gator skewers are the BEST!! Its not just the gator that makes this dish great but the cold slaw and sauce are the perfect pairing!Anything with grits are a must try! Some of our go tos are the crawfish in peanut sauce w grits, blackened catfish, gator, po boys, etouffe, gumbo! So basically everything is scrumptious!!I havent had a dish here yet that didnt bring the HEAT so if youre not into spice be VERY mindful of what youre ordering!! Even lightly blackened is 🔥 that is my only advice..be ready for that NOLA spiceGreat, energetic, fun NOLA -Mardi gras atmosphere . Always great live music even at brunch! Colorfully decorated, love really everything about this place! Drinks are bangin too try them all & uber home! Staff is always friendly & welcoming , everyone is extremely knowledgeable about the menu.. love everything about it EXCEPT parking
Big daddys is one of our families favorite places to eat. We live in the neighborhood. Tonight my friends drove all the way to massapequa from manorville bc we told them how much we like the food. Well unfortunately we never got to try the food. We had to get our food to go. We were a party of 7 and we waited so long for service that we didnt even get to eat our food there we had to get it to go. We were there for 2 hours between waiting for the server to take our order, waiting for drinks and apps we didnt get our entrees. I had to ask for refills, ask them to take our order, ask for our food after 40 minutes, and we felt like we were anoying...when we asked for our food to go after waiting for 40 minutes you can tell they made it on the fly and it def wasnt as good as it normally is. My sons food which we ordered when we first walked in was wrong and over cooked. I usually love this place and recommend it to everyone but im not sure anymore. Everyone, not just the servers even the managers seemed to be miserable. We tried to get their attention but they would even look our way. I get if everyone is having an off night, our whole table worked or still works in the food industry but basically we wasted 2 hours and spent $100 on take out. I was so disappointed in hospitality. We will see if we go back. If i do it will be bc the food there is amazing not the service. Also my friends just finished their meals and said they didnt come out right and was way too spicy(they couldnt eat it and they eat spicy food all the time) My friend was raving to her husband for 2 years about this place and now he refuses to go back. We are just really disappointed...
Great food. You dont go for the ambiance, you wont mistake the place for Pat Obriens on Bourbon Street, but youll get better food. Been to NOLA many times and I havent found gumbo that even comes close to Big Daddys. And if youre not into hot/spicy, the bbq will please the less adventurous.
As a New Orleanian living on Long Island, I wanted to like this place. Every time I tell someone Im from Louisiana, they say, You gotta go to Big Daddys. I finally went, and have never been more disappointed in a restaurant. Gumbo is started with a roux, flour and oil or butter. Their gumbo tasted like taco soup, with corn and beef in it, and no trinity. The stuffed shrimp was ok, but the red beans again tasted like they belonged on a enchilada platter instead of in a restaurant with New Orleans cuisine on the sign. Also, they sell Abita beer for $7 a bottle. Even at Uncle Guiseppes, where everything costs more, a SIX-PACK of Abita Amber or Purple Haze (retail) is $11. Even with markup, that is insane to charge 7 bucks a beer. Anyway, the service was friendly, and the atmosphere and music was pleasant.
I always enjoy going to Big Daddys . The Creole jambalaya is my go to dish , you cant get it better anywhere . If you like peanut butter get the Billy Carters Crawfish . The service is allways great and if youre unsure they will make sure you get something that you will love . Dont forget to start with the gumbo .
Foods ok but Ive never heard a dumber reservation policy. Trying to make a res for a dozen people and you wont take it because your foolish policy wont allow it? Bigger, more expensive, better restaurants take reservations until they close the doors, but this place? Heaven forbid. Terrible decision-making for an otherwise ok restaurant.
Came to dinner here because my mom wanted to try the food. The food was good but the overall service was lacking. Our waitress was not attentive and we felt rushed. The overall environment was not what we expected. Overall we had an OK experience, I would come back but take my food to go.
Was just here today to have evening drinks, wings and grits . I am not gonna lie the food tasted really good but the service I received after my meal was utterly disgusting and unacceptable. A large group of people came In and they were expecting more people to come in so my waiter, Anthony, decided that he will slowly push us out but in subtle way. He started removing everything off the table I was in the process of reviewing the bill and he just took it from me and says he is stealing it for a second and went to charge my card. I was not ready to do that but he took it anyway. Eventually the truth came out he came to tell us that he need the table for the other members of that larger group . He told us we welcome to. Move to another table but he is not kicking us out..my thing is the place was not that full and lots of other available tables he could have moved over to the larger group table but he felt he must have ours.He came took away the water from the table, .my glass of water which I was still drinking the only thing he didnt do was take the cup of tea from my hand.I am totally disgusted and disappointed by this treatment and felt I should say something.Management I am appealing to you to have your staff properly trained and the waiter Anthony need be retrained as he is not yet ready to be serving customers.
Very happy to be able to eat something other than McDonald’s or Taco Bell......But to order a meal featuring crawfish and to receive it with everything but the crawfish(the reason I ordered the meal)....was quite a disappointment......It should have came with a note or a callSaying u didn’t have it......was a bummer.....

2021-10-06The service was great, staff was very attentive. They had a live band playing southern music. It’s like you’re in New Orleans. We got the brisket and the fried chicken. Both were great, will definitely be back!

2021-09-04Sat outside today, beautiful weather. Server outside was great very attentive. Food has that Louisiana / New Orleans spice and drinks went down nicely. Try the Vicksburg lemonade...

2022-05-04This was our first time dining here. The food was really good. We shared Lucifers mussels in Louisiana hot sauce and crumbled blue cheese. We then ordered St. Louis spare ribs Texas style BBQ, corn bread, vinegar slaw and red beans. And then we had baked salmon over collard greens and rice. Everything was cooked to perfection. We are planning our next visit.

2021-07-31Best place on the island for authentic new orleans creole cuisine. We have found nothing that can compare. Po boys and jambalaya are our top picks and the bottomless brunch on the weekends cant be beat. Wish we lives closer

2021-05-26Overall Sunday brunch was good. Portions were big and to top it off, $20 for bottomless brunch drinks. Have to go back and try their dinner menu as I was told its also good and their bbq is on point.

2022-03-13The food was phenomenal! The atmosphere was great and the wait wasnt that long (only 35 minutes 7 oclock). It is a true Southern restaurant. The wait staff was on point. We didnt wait very long for our food, drinks, or for our dishes to be cleared from the table once we were done. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who is interested in good food and a good time at a reasonable price.
