Excellent ice cream. Not usually a soft serve fan, but this is really something else. So glad theyre back in the UWS.
Came here a few weeks ago. Was in the neighborhood just browsing around, so out of curiosity decided to stop in. It was nice and simple inside, so I ordered a soft serve chocolate ice cream in a cone. It was good, yeah I would recommend this place to drop into.
Great to know the downtown icon now has a branch on the UWS. They’re only taking cash today; no cards and such.
Excellent ice cream & paletas (hispanic popsicles). Very nice staff. Too many treats to sample!
I’m not a big fan of Ice cream but let me tell you I’ll make the trip to big gay ice cream any day just to taste this American Globbs Ice cream. By far the best ice cream I’ve ever had in my life.
Happy to have an ice cream alternative to Van Leeuwens on the UWS. And their chocolate soft serve with chocolate covered salty pretzels is tough to beat. But don’t expect artisanal flavors or anything super flavorful - they do the basics and the toppings well. Expect a line on weekend evenings, and expect them to be sold out of some options. For Covid Summer 2020, they allow 1 group inside at a time and there are 2 benches outdoors for seating, or ya walk and eat.
Nothing all that unique. Fun branding, but the soft serve is pretty basic.
Its a really nice place, their ice cream is soft which I usually dont really like but they do it great, the toppings are great.I tried both the American globes and the rocky roadhouse, both were very delicious.The staff are nice and the place is colorful and beautiful, I would definitely recommend to give this place a try, its great!
Absolutely delicious vanilla soft serve! The chocolate sprinkles were way too waxy for my liking, but it doesn’t even matter because the vanilla was SO GOOD. Vanilla twist in a cake cone 10/10!
I would love to give a better rating but the employees made my first visit my last because of there ill demeanor and ongoing personal conversations ignoring me while I asked for assistance. Not only were they rude but the context of their conversation was not suitable for my childs ears. They were loud and unprofessional not caring for upholding the franchises image. What makes it even worse one of the employees didnt even have the decency to move out of the doorway when I was coming in with my daughter. What a great disappointment because I was looking forward to visiting this shop frequently.

Had their ice cream from their truck outside the google store for free for pride month and it was SO good. vanilla ice cream was extremely creamy, almost custard like. really, really good.

I’m a plain twist cone sorta guy. Just give me chocolate and vanilla soft serve on a cone. Absolutely amazing, I don’t need sprinkles or other stuff, which they have, and the wife got. Better than Mister Softee, and really nice employees.

I live on this block and was so excited to try this ice cream shop. The ice cream is delicious, do not get me wrong, but the customer service is appalling. The women working Friday night was taking a personal phone call while she was taking my order and kept asking me to repeat my choices. I decided to give this place another try tonight and my experience was even worse! The man at the register with the hat was SO rude and overwhelmed when there was nobody else but us there. He also shoo’ed us out of the way when he had to go downstairs to the lower level. Once again, the ice cream was delicious, but the customer service ruined my whole experience.
Limited menu consisting of basically just vanilla soft serve + a few toppings. Lonely staff member was on the phone and did not wear gloves when handling my order. Will not be back
Big Gay Ice Cream Shop is a great place for a frozen treat and not willing to totally break the bank. Such a fun concept for an ice cream shop! Heads up, this is NOT like your typical ice cream parlor with 1 million flavors in tubs that you can choose from., this is SOFT SERVE ice cream shop. At Big Gay Ice Cream Shop you get to play around with the toppings. They have cones or pints for purchase if you want to take some ice cream to go (A pint never lasts me more than 2 days). The salty pimp is a fantastic mix of salty, sweet ice cream. A well balanced fun dessert. Its a small location and not much seats (there is some space by the window). Still a good place to pick up a cold yummy treat! If youre in need of a sweet treat, definitely give Big Gay Ice Cream Shop a try.Ice Cream favors (SOFT SERVE ice cream): There is really only vanilla, chocolate, and swirl.Famous item of the menu is the Salty Pimp describe as Vanilla ice cream cone injected with dulce de leche, lightly salted and dipped in chocolate shell – it’s there best known cone.
Compared with Zabar’s soft icecream this was far bteer, smoot, rich, creamy- perfect for the heat of July 2021. I’ll be returning again!
Terrible service and was lied to about the price of items. When called out they still tried to lie until the receipt was presented. If you don’t like being robbed stay away from this place. Very shady !!

Staff working on the day I went was not friendly. They got my order wrong, but between the music blasting and the masks, how could she have possibly heard me correctly.
Good and rich flavor but I’d have felt safer if disposable hand gloves were used in each of us.

2022-02-12Very unique texture, almost tasted like a frozen dense whipped cream. Got a cup with strawberry topping to share. I really enjoyed it but my friend did not care for it at all. I thought it tasted great! We arrived late so I tried to get something very simple and quick as to not inconvenience the staff, but I can kind of get what the other reviews about unfriendly staff mean; I thought it was just because we were in late.

2021-12-30Average ice cream, the staff was very rude. Yelled at me for asking for a scoop of two flavors. We dont have a scoop. Its called soft serve okay, whatever. I wanted one half butter scotch, half gingerbread. She used the mix setting on the machine. Im not coming back. Sad, Ive heard such good things about this place. Very disappointed.

2022-07-10Coming from KC, its so nice to see something LGBT themed that isnt a bar! We walked in and were instantly enthusiastically greeted by both of the staff members. We were not rushed to order and they said to let them know if we have questions. We got a chocolate with sprinkles and the Shortberry Strawcake and they were delicious!The only thing worth complaining about is that theres trash piled right outside and I gagged just smelling the trash smell mixed with my food. Im not sure if theyre able to do anything about this, so thats why I didnt take any off the stars and only mentioned in the review.🏳️🌈🏳️🌈

2022-01-23This has to be ABSOLUTELY the best and inexpensive icecream spot i had in nyc. I loved how they put sprinkles in the bottom! The customer service as well. Will be sharing this spot to friends and family.

2022-07-10Coming out of Central park close of 80th street, tried this place. Seems like a big hit with the crowd pulled up, in summers.I tried the multi-flavored popsicle (ofc, I couldn’t pick just one). They don’t make it though, it was La Newyorkina’s. Very good in taste and also grammable. Boyfriend tried their b&w chocolate vanilla milk shake said he has had better, but it was decently creamy and tasted good.Would be back to try other flavors to review further!

2022-01-06Needed help from my partner to read the sign and was yelled at by an employee to hurry and order. There was no line and we were the only customers in the store at the time so it shouldnt have been a problem. I understand people having an off day, but my inability to see shouldnt have warranted that response.

2021-07-27This is the UWS version of the OG flagship down in the west village, but it doesnt disappoint. Prob one of the best ice cream spots in NYC.Everything on the menu is good, but come here on a hot day and get the American globs, which is a vanilla soft-serve covered with pretzel bits and dipped in a chocolate shell. If you wanna be adventurous, substitute the vanilla for a vanilla-chocolate twist for a small additional charge. Enjoy.

2022-03-03Very creative ice cream, but the flavor itself is not that special (at least the one I tried). Horrible service. Lady didn’t care we were there, was video-calling someone while working. Didn’t say a single word, clearly I upset her for trying to buy an ice cream when she was doing something more important. The place was smelling also… Ah, the prices on the photos here (and on the QR menu in the door) are outdated. Paid 7.51 (tax inc) for a Rocky Roadhouse.

I tried several places and I am always coming back to this one.My personal favorite is the „American Globs“: vanilla ice cream with dark pretzel bits covered in a chocolate shell. I like to order it injected with dulce de leche. But tbh: everything is awesome, you can’t go wrong.Perfect treat! Can’t wait to go back🍦
