Very impressive cocktail menu, by far one of the most eclectic Ive seen in the area. The staff is very knowledgeable and gifted in concoction assembly. I had a crisp dry martini and a tundra-like applejack cocktail (offensively delicious. I will be back to imbibe again. So glad I walked in and gave this place a chance to impress me, it succeeded.
Phenomenal bar, with brilliant staff. Sometimes there might be a bit of a wait for a drink but the menu and the bar tenders are worth it.Pan American Clipper has become my numbero uno cocktail thanks to this place.A real oasis of a bar in an area with little else to offer past 6pm.
Experienced a gathering for NYE to bring in 2013 with a small group of good friends. The staff is friendly and engaged the service was excellent. I would suggest a small party for the purposes of an intimate engagement as it easily incapacitated due to its quaint size. This establishment is posh. A lush environment flawlessly decorated to perfection with the dim warmth of a true speakeasy. The bar is stocked with an exquisite variety of draft beers and incredibly tasty original cocktails made from imported liquors.
I cant remember having better Kosher pizza than this. The customer service at the counter was also excellent and helped to mitigate the fact that in the chaos of a busy Saturday night, our order took too long to fill. (It was originally ready in time, but we were lost in the shuffle somehow, so we got our food late.)Very, very tasty pizza. Fries were good too.If youre in a group, consider the full pie, 2 fries and 2-liter bottle special for $21. Its available all week, including peak times.
This is one of our fav neighborhood places. I love that its not overcrowded or overrun with tourists. The experts at the bar take their cocktails seriously (as do I) and elevate the overall experience. Lovely cocktail menu with old favs and new inspirations.Ive taken one star off for ambiance. You guys need to get rid of the TV. Most nights its very chill - great, low lighting and music that fits the style of the place without being demanding (I hate places I have to yell to be heard). The TV at the bar really ruins the ambiance. Folks dont go to a speakeasy to watch TV, the news or a movie. Anyone who puts sports on should be fired immediately. Go next door (or any other pub in FiDi) if you want to catch a game.Blacktail, a new Cuban-speakeasy nearby will give Black Hound a run for its money. Im hoping it stays true to its intention and even pushes the speakeasy theme a bit more. Please keep an eye on the ambiance.
A LES style cocktail bar at the opposite end of the universe - Battery Park City. Seriously tasty creative cocktails and great, cozy lounge chairs in the back. Perfect for a chilly winters night or a too hot summer evening. The crowd is strangely very bridge and tunnely, but overall highly recommended!
Came here on Christmas Eve (evening), asked for a Tom & Jerrys - shot in the dark request - and our bartender Joey didnt hesitate to say he would serve that up. He worked to perfect the drink and nailed it! So refreshing to have someone work so hard for a slightly odd request! ; ) We havent tried the food, yet, but for ambience and service it scores a 5 from us!
Well, the burger was ok so thats a good thing. But when you ask for pickles for your burger and the bartender asks if you want a side of pickles, then somethings wrong. I asked if I have to pay for the pickles. He said it depends. Again, I said Id like a few pickle slices to put on my burger. He then left and came back with 3 pickle slices. Uh, thanks. Hope its not $2 a slice. While Im eating, Im watching him make a drink for a couple sitting at a table. I dont know what it was but it included vodka. So he shakes and shakes the shot plus whatever else was in there (you know the almost overhead kinda shaking system) and pours it into an ice filled small cocktail glass and oooops, not enough drink for even that small glass so I guess hes gonna have to get the vodka bottle and pour in a little more ... but wait! No! No move at all to the vodka bottle. Lo and behold, it seems that popping a few more ice cubes into the already overladen glass of ice cubes works just as well! Alas, the glass is full. The good news is no charge for the pickles! The bad? I got charged $1 for raw onion. Ummm, I dont think so. There are enough yummy burger places in Manhattan without being charged $1 for raw onion. Please give me a break.Go to McDonalds. At least you know what youre getting there for what price.
Black Hound what happened to you.... you used to be my fave local cocktail bar but I came in 12/1/17 and I have to say the service was awful, your bar staff are clueless and 3 staff on paying no attention to the bar was cringe to watch...... bring back Mr and Mrs we love them

2021-12-15Found this hidden gem for after work drinks! Its listed as speakeasy and while the bar itself isnt really hidden, Ive walked past it many times without realizing how modern and chic it is on the inside! The drinks and the bar staff were fantastic - will definitely be back soon now!

2022-03-27My friends and I went in to the Black-hound at around 9pm and didn’t leave until they closed. The atmosphere of the place along with the staff (Jennifer & Omar) was amazing. We asked Jennifer to make us drinks of her choice and she did not disappoint. The staff was so friendly, they suggested us places to see and things to do. They made us feel so welcomed in the city. My friends and I ended up drinking about 8/9 drinks and shots and the bill came out to a total of $140 which is not bad at all.

2019-10-22Louise at the bar last night gave us excellent service and made us feel like regulars. The lounge is moreso into promoting its cocktails, so single glasses of wine are about the same price if not more as a fancy cocktail that would take 4-5x the amount of effort to create, which was a little odd.Overall, it was a very intimate spot, and while I didnt order any food, what the other patrons ordered looked delicious. It wasnt super crowded at the bar, and there was an entire very dimmly lit back lounge for quieter conversation. The ambiance felt a little redundant after a while, though, so my friend and I ended up leaving fairly soon. But perhaps thats to be expected on a Monday evening.Know before you go: lots of restaurants and cafes nearby. Also, the views of downtown Manhattan and Jersey City from the surrounding neighborhood are absolutely breathtaking (and I say this as someone whos lived in NYC for five years).

2021-10-30We usually go there because is quiet and location is convenient, but the service is always suboptimal unless you are the only group at the bar. They do not know or don’t have the capacity to serve a semi-full place. We always wait for up to 20-30 min to have our drinks, which we overlook for the convenience and because we’re enjoying each other’s company, but last time they brought us our food (wrong dish for one of us), they never brought us our drinks and when we said we just wanted the drink we ordered and the check the waiter was visibly upset, threw the beers at the table (not the ones we ordered) and left WITHOUT BRINGING THE CHECK! That did it for me, will never go to that place again. If I could give zero stars ...

2021-08-22Had a very unpleasant experience with a shift manager on 8/21/21. Our group came on a Sat night for a round of drinks. After we made orders and sat at the bar, the manager came from the back and shouted at us that we must leave the place because we were “not speaking English among us”. Not with her, other staff members or the bartender (who we had a good conversation with in English) but among us. When I tried to explain that some members of our group are visiting from Europe and just simply don’t speak English well enough, she became even more aggressive, started bringing up political topics (that had nothing to do with that situation) and threw my friend’s phone that he was charging at the bar. We had nothing else to do other than to leave the place before even finishing our drinks.More than being disappointed, I just simply cannot believe this situation happened in Battery Park in New York City. There is thousands of tourists coming to this city every day, how can you realistically expect everyone around you to speak English only?

2021-10-31I went from a 5 star review to a 1 star review back to a 5 star review now. People make all the difference in why someone is comfortable in a bar situation. This is why Stephanie and Omar are the best! They know how to make you feel comfortable. They have made this bar my local Cheers.

2021-08-22Very rude manger, kicked everyone out 2 hours before closing yelling at our group in a disrespectful manner.. I never had such an experience in any other places and totally regret we picked this place with my friends to enjoy the evening. They didn’t allow us to stay and wait for a cab 5minutes when it was pouring outside. I would never come back to this place again even though I live close by and visited it many times before. No respect to customers.

2020-02-15Pretentious place that scamming guests with prices for drinks. There is no line with actual price for basic drinks in the menu there, like daikiris or old fashioned, only happy hour price. But be prepare that final price is twice higher in the bill, and they are even adding couple bucks for requesting specific spirit(we did not) One of the worst lounge bars I ever been. Manager was terribly rude and applying attitude when I made a complain. Quality of drinks is ok, but nothing special to pay that price for.

2019-11-25A very nice relaxed ambience. Loved our bartender: she was so down to earth/chill and made phenomenal drinks. Food’s good too. Been here twice, both times great experiences. Will be returning!
