Everything was great starting with the service. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. We ordered the calamari and stuffed peppers as an app, both were delicious, especially the peppers. As our entree, we ordered wings and a fish fry. I ordered the wings extra crispy and they were cooked to perfection! The fish fry had a very light beer batter that was fantastic and the fresh cut fries were awesome. This was our first visit, but certainly not our last!
Food is always on point!! Specials are very unique and changing all the time. The staff is ALWAYS very friendly. They have a HUGE beer selection. I HIGHLY recommend any salad, lobster bisque (I wont eat it anywhere else), Black Water Blue Burger, and Bavarian Pretzels.

We really enjoyed the atmosphere, the beer and the food. It was our first time there. Our waiter was very pleasant and the bartender, she was super nice and informative of the beers and menu. We definitely will be going back.
One of my husbands and my favorite places to eat. The food is superb and timely... Open for dinner later at night so we could go when he got out of work late. The staff is very inviting and cheerful.My husband has passed recently and I still go there with some of his closest friends knowing hes right there with us!
Covid has changed so much.Couldnt get a certain sandwich because prices went sky high.Ordered a jack & coke ... couldnt taste any jack. Waitress was somewhat slow on getting things we asked for. I would understand if it was busy. But it wasnt.This was my 1st time ever going there. I will give another chance.Food was very good.

The service was excellent but the food was not. I ordered the chicken Parm with gluten free pasta and a side salad. The salad tasted great but the chicken Parm was bad. Pasta was too chewy (I know what gluten free pasta should taste) and the chicken breading was so hard and difficult to cut and chew. I returned the chicken dish and got the onion soup with no bread. The next morning I was so sick with diarrhea. Sorry to say Im afraid to return.
The service could have been better. The waiter was servicing the entire restaurant and bar, so he was too busy to take care of us the whole time. We waited forever to get our order taken. He didnt ask us to refill our drinks, we had to flag him down for whatever we needed and it took forever to get anything from him. We werent happy about our service.
We dined outside, it was a beautiful day!! Our server came quickly to our table to give us menus and take our drink order. She came with a smile, you could still tell under the mask!! We had the burger special, they were delicious!! Now we love to go to Red Robin for burgers, I am so glad that there is a local restaurant that has fantastic burgers, we had 3 different kinds, all were great!! Service was quick and friendly, that young woman had to run around to cover those socially distant tables. Food was very tasty, cant wait to try other things on the menu and some of the specials that sounded yummy!

What a great place for Ol friends to meet up. It was a Sunday afternoon and the crowd was lighter so early in the day. We felt comfortable catching up. Service was prompt without hovering. Burgers were delicious.
We stopped in for dinner was told 35 -40 minute wait. They would call us when a table was available. We waited in our car, an hour later called them and said it would be another 10-15 minutes which again, we waited in our car. We went inside after 30 minutes was told a table would be available shortly but come to find out the manager seated 2 parties before us. Left ate somewhere else. 2 hrs later still no call!

The food here is spectacular and reasonably priced. I ordered the pork chops and they were delicious. This place has dishes that are of a much better quality than regular bar food. They also have regular bar food if thats what you are looking for. Sat at the bar and the bartender was attentive and friendly. Beware, the stuffed hot peppers have quite a kick. I would definitely go back.
Really nice place for a quiet lunch. The Hog wings were very, very tasty. The meat was tender and juicy. The chicken wrap was very good and the Pittsburgh salad was excellent. The only complaint was no shade whatsoever on patio.
Although the food was edible, I was very disappointed in the flavor category. I got the onion soup to start, and the cheese was much too thick, flavor bland, and onion chunks too thick. I ordered the chicken piccata but it came with linguini instead of angel hair pasta, the sauce was not that of lemony butter, but rather a bland white sauce. The chicken was boiled and the gristle was not removed which I find very distasteful. I requested a slice of garlic toast and it came as a fancy cut hoagie roll with no garlic flavor at all. We sent our first drinks of Pepsi back because it tasted like diet and our 2nd glasses were flat.Husband said his burger was good but nothing special. Not enough to pull him back here again. Our server took our dishes, and it took 11 minutes for him to come back to our table with our check and no offer of dessert.The most important piece of dinner for me. I wanted cake!! 🙁

Had a baby shower there today. The service was exceptional and the food was fabulous. Had been there once before for lunch. I dont live in the area but I will continue to drive the long distance just because everything about it was above my expectations. Love it!

I was sorry to see the quality go down so much. Back when they needed business it was nice they cared now they act like they rather you didnt bother them. And portions were cut in half at best and prices stayed way up.
We had my daughters wedding shower In the back room! We were able to decorate the room and the decor went perfect with our decorations! The food was awesome and the staff was amazing and very helpful! I want to thank Joel for helping us to make this day perfect for my daughter!

Loved this experience! Our waitress did get my drink order wrong, but was quick to correct it. She did well with our party of 20+. The food was good, the appetizers could have been better.
As I entered the place, the bartender was yelling: I dont get paid enough for this. I had to get the menus for our table. Then I had the wrong menu she tells me. They dont have an $8.00 lunch special anymore. It took her half an hour to come get our drink order. My friend was yelled at that she needed to make a reservation so they could staff correctly. There were only three tables in the whole restaurant and one guy at the bar. Two of us ordered fries which I was told my salad came with either chips or fries. The fries came in one small basket and both of us had to share the fries out of that basket for an upcharge of $2 each which I didnt know until I got my bill and the same surley bartender argued with me about charging me the $2. She came back with my bill and told me she had to pay the $2 out of her pocket because she couldnt get it off my bill. What? Wait. Really? And I drove over an hour in each direction because my friend recommended this restaurant. There are too many good restaurants to waste your time on a bad restaurant.
I have been here a half a dozen times and the food is always good and service is always friendly. Has a warm and cozy atmosphere. Seems like a good place to belly up for a few hours as well.
Black Water is always a great go to when looking to either grab a quick bite to eat, pick up some wings on your way home, or grab a beer or two to catch up with some friends. The staff is always friendly, the food is always delicious, and many beers on tap to choose from.

This is more of a local pub than restaurant. The menu has a limited selection of moderately priced, but very tasty, bar food (wings, burgers and such). The dining area was clean, spacious, however limited. I also found it a little noisy from the shared bar area (I prefer a quiet dining area).The staff was excellent. The service was quick.If youre looking for a local watering hole, check this place out. They also have a nice selection of draft brews and microbrews.
The pasta dishes are very good and crazy big. The Prime Rib petite was tough and disappointing, however, the Prime Rib on Weck was delicious. A great selection of beers and mixed drinks (dark & stormy). The server, Stephanie, was excellent.
Service was good. Friendly and courteous. Food was very ordinary. Had the tacos and poutine. Ortegas at home are better and didnt finish the fried cheese & gravy. Disappointing.
Excellent service, good vibe, reasonabley priced and the burgers are spot on and catered to your liking! We go to Hamburg to race every weekend and have hit every burger and beer joint between Geneseo and Hamburg. Black Water has become our favorite spot. Check it out! Cheers.

Finally got there! My husband ordered the delmonico with shrimp- I think it was a special. He said the shrimp was delicious but the steak was tough and grisly . We eat very little meat so he thought he’d treat himself! I had a chicken sandwich which was also delicious! As were the fresh cut fries! Waitress very nice! However- I wish there was a vegetarian option. I don’t eat meat and buy my chicken local . Why not add a veggie burger option for the burgers?

Well..the atmosphere is wonderful...food is hit and miss. I was just there and its a local place. A $13 chicken marsala had good flavor...but canned green beans?? Yuk. Just up your menu a touch and serve fresh please!
Black Water Tavern is a local place that is worth the trip. The service is friendly and prompt (even with large groups!), the drinks are wonderful, the beers swapped seasonally. And the food is good enough to make you want a second stomach! Try the hot pretzels, they are amazing!
My husband took me as a surprise because every time wed pass it Id say, I want to try that place! The service was wonderful, our waitress Was so friendly, and went above and beyond to make our fist time a great experience! We will be back!

Very accomadating staff that has yet to be intimidated by a large group. They have always been friendly and are quick to keep the drinks full. This is a great bar and grill in the town of Alden. They have 24 tap handles that are rotated often, so something new is always coming up. The food is also very good with several daily specials available.
I ordered a medium rare breakfast burger with an appetizer of mozzarella sticks, the mozzarella sticks were good, but my burger was switched with the well done burger that someone else at my table had ordered. I could not finish the burger. Other than the mixup, my experience was satisfactory

Tavern food; nothing special. Freezer to fryer fingers, mozzarella sticks, pizza logs.Husband had prime rib. Palm sized chunk of far in it. No interest in returning.Oh, hand cut fries were actually awesome.
Very slow service, had half our table get served, rest came 20 minutes later and my soup came 20 minutes after I ordered it. If your serving food and drinks and not be consistent, Dont charge the customer.But they did and compped us a drink. Huge insult when we were not drinking?Soup was salty along with some of the other entrees. Will not return again

I Live right down the road from here and use to go when it was previously owned. If your going for dinner the food is good but if your going for a drink on a weeknight keep going. The bartender is immature and young with young friends who also work there (some) all sitting around using profound language and you will be ignored. It makes me sick what the industry has become this day and the professionalism or shall I say lack there of.Disappointing for sure. I was hoping for a nice chill place to go for a glass of wine since I work from home but all I walked into was an atmosphere that might be that but a young wanna be night club experience. And the Bartender is drinking with her friends. Just been witnessed.

Keep hearing About $5 burgers on Sundays. Check said $6.50 plus an extra $2 for the the fries that are normally included . That alone left a bad taste in my mouth. Food is on point though. Friendly staff great beer selection . Will of course be back, just be upfront on whats included in specials.

Weve been here several times and the food is always good...one complaint..you cannot have live music during dinner hours..we came in at 6:30 half way through dinner the live music started, we couldnt hear each other talk..and we watched a party of 6 come in and leave ..we heard them tell the hostess it was too loud..leave the loud music for the after dinner crowd..

2022-07-10First time stopping here. The food was ok. I had asked for chicken with my pasta and the bar tender forgot it but quickly went back and put it in for me, thats my only complaint. Friendly atmosphere, good music, decent prices.

2022-04-19After an absence of many years, I was pleasantly surprised to return to the town of Alden, NY and find a restaurant there that was new to me. The Black Water Tavern proved to be a warm and homey spot on a cold, dark and rainy night. The inside is done in rich wood and stone. It has the feel of a country lodge or an inn in the woods. There is a large fireplace in the roomy dining room. The bar is separated from the dining room so that you can easily converse over dinner. The food is excellent and overly generous in portions! I had so much food I was actually shocked. Ive never experienced that before! And we had the sweetest waitress in the world who had the bartender pour my special request drink exactly the way I like it. If you are ever in the Alden area, do not miss experiencing The Black Water Tavern! Ill be back!

2022-04-30Ive been to this tavern 2 Friday nights in a row. It was a mixed crowd, but more younger..(Im the older crowd) The bartenders were right there as soon as I stepped up to the bar. They have 2 dart boards and a small patio. The bar was full but not crowded. No one bothered us as we chatted and enjoyed our drinks. Im glad I finally decided to go here and check them out.

2022-02-07Friendly and rambunctious atmosphere. Great food, Friday fish fry is a must. The bartender took our party of 4 in the dining room despite having a full bar, and still managed to do a great job. Perfect snowmobilers (thats a word here in WNY) with cold drinks and a warm fireplace.Definitely recommended.

2022-05-04Solid food, great staff.Wish there was a bit more of a variety.Im surprised theres no chicken and broccoli garlic alfredo, or linguine and white clams.Id probably make this my main restaurant.There really arent any complaints... i just love my pasta.I love it soo much i have to give it a 4.Forgive me!Edited: I guess I was wrong and they do have specials and certain pastas I enjoy to eat. Regardless the food there was great. Should have just given it a 5 anyways.

2022-01-26Wednesday,. Approx.4 p.m. Changing of bartender. No problem. Wait for bartender coming onI already had a menu. Sat at bat for about 20 mins. Waiting for a bartender to ask if I wanted to order. Finally a gentleman at the bar told her to come to me to get an order. In the next 20 mins. I learned that if I was a male customer I would get quick service. Had not been here on a Wednesday prior to this. Maybe a sign men only would work on these afternoons. She gave mey salad, but sort of acted unfriendly. I will have to think twice about doing this place again.
