Blick Art Materials in other cities:
One of my favorite places to shop. As an artist to go into a store like this is like a kid in a candy store. You want to buy almost everything. I am almost at the point where I will start painting again because I see so many different paints and brushes I never used and it is inspiring. I love to draw and they have a huge selection and those copic markers are by far my favorites. As always the staff is super friendly and super helpful.
Went here for painting framing a couple of times. The staff are incredibly helpful and patient with clueless ditherers like me. Cant recommend them enough. Prices are very reasonable too compared to what you can end up paying in this town. Lots of other supplies available inside over two levels. Wheelchair accessible entrance but I only see stairs to get the lower floor but maybe they have another option.
(Over crowded issue) Went in yesterday, November 15, to buy some watercolor paper etc. Unfortunately there were about 20 people on a very slow moving checkout line. Being too Covid-sensitive, I just couldn’t consider being on line, in an over capacity area of the store for 30+ minutes. Left my stuff & head up to their 13th street store. While that store is less spacious, there was no line & I was in and out in ten minute. The Bond street location needs to better manage the traffic . . .
Brought a couple of photos of the family to be framed. The staff on hand were very helpful and despite the counter being very busy with customers and staff coming and going, I didn’t feel rushed.UPDATE 09.28.19Ive been back to frame additional pictures of the family and the staff are still incredible.. lead by James the framing department manager you can totally see how the way he leads his team with impeccable customer service is understood by each of his associates.Ive been to other Blick Art Stores and this is by far the best run framing department.James you are a true asset to Blick and is the reason why so many of my friends and colleagues are now taking their business to Blick on Bond Street because of you.
Great store for art supplies and for cheap!! They give a student discount if you sign up with their card. The store itself is aesthetically pleasing and the staff are amazingly nice. The only problem was that when I was at the store the security kept on following me. Like why do I need someone on my back? I obviously was shopping for supplies as any artist would do and here I was being suspected as someone who would steal! Why would I want to steal when Im obviously there to buy! That was the only problem it was seriously annoying.
My favorite art store. I always end up buying something here if I browse for more than 15 minutes. There are 2 levels: ground level has all the pencils, paints, pens, scissors, novelties and gifts, paint brushes & basement level has the sketchbooks, paper, craft supplies, easels, and misc. The staff is super nice and very informative. Most are also artists so making their personal opinions on brands has helped me a lot in picking out materials.
One of the most nicest Blicks I’ve ever been to. Staff is super friendly. However, yesterday I was at the Blick in Union Square and they ran out of a certain canvas size I needed and then I called this Blick location to put the item I needed from their store on hold. They asked for my name and I told them “Anamica” and when I got to the store they put my name as “Anna” on the product. I do not appreciate people gentrifying my name because it is easier for them. That was extremely disrespectful.
Ill be honest. most times when I go into art supply stores I get treated kinda funny. I usually go after work when Im dirty from doing construction all day. So maybe I look kind of out of place. One time I bought an art bin from this same Blicks and the cashier asked me if I had put one of the components inside there. Basically asking me if I was putting extra stuff into the bin to try to sneak through at checkout. Ive had a lot of bad experiences in art stores in general. Last night was different. The associate that helped me last night was so bright, lively and radiant, energetically. She literally restored my faith in humanity with the way she helped me. She made me ask myself how can I be be so outwardly happy just like her. She was a short black girl wearing a skully. Super helpful. But yeah its a great store with 2 levels and a lot of selection.
What can I say? I have been an artist since the age of 4 or 5 and I have been to many art stores, such as Pearl Paint and Utrecht and the employees seem like they are rude, avoiding you or doing you a favor by helping you. At Blick the employees were EXTREMELY FRIENDLY and HELPFUL. I will go to no other art store but this 1 for the rest of my life. Also great prices.
Standing in an art strore makes me feel artistic. Theyve got lots of poster-making supplies so I pick up my goods and then wander. I paint, I glitterize, I sculpt, glue, frame, coat and sketch. Its all fantasy and all the best kind, runaway imagination. I dont know about the prices but the location and atmosphere serve me well.
This is a great art store, unfortunately places like this have been closing all over New York, but you can get all of your art supplies here, and its a huge space. If you cant find what you need among the paints and canvasses upstairs, check the crafts section in the basement.
Blick is a solid standard art supply store with a good assortment of commonly sought after brands for needed art supplies. This one is large and well maintained, if you need supplies for a class/course they probably have it, though if you are crafting it would depend on the particulars.
I buy all of my art supplies here. I originally found them when trying to get cheaper Prismacolor pens (normally going $5-7 a pop), and I just keep going back. They have supplies for every project I could possibly think of, and their employees are just as knowledgeable about using the supplies as they are in finding them for me. Spending money is easy here, especially with the student discount card; its lugging everything home thats the hard part!
I end up going to this store a lot because of its proximity to Spring Studios. The prices cant be beat! The selection, at this store in particular, is very good and the shelves are not as chaotic as at most art supply stores. Id say the one down side is that this store (and most NYC Blick stores) seem woefully understaffed and getting help or trying to check out can take MUCH longer than I would like. I wish the high-end brush selection were better, though I get why thats a hard thing to justify retail space for. This store is GREAT for students and mad decent for professionals. I really like the frequent buyers card (which has already saved me more than $100).
I recently went to Blick in search of simple stencils for a class project.I didnt find stencils in an average price range to use with my students. I just wanted fruits to teach them colors and healthy eating choices. The prices were high and by the time the register would total up the items for a simple art project it would have totaled over $50.There was lots of empty hangers waiting to be filled. Guys this was August right before school opened- bad timing to be out of merchandise.
Nice store but some of the staff really need more customer service training. Cashier was too busy talking to security guard to notice I was trying to check out. Another cashier walked away from the counter without bothering to check if I needed help. Someone had to tell the guy speaking to the guard I was waiting. There is no line system for check out either so you have no idea where to stand. Cashier seemed rather lost and insincere about helping. Tried to give me a giant bag for my 2 small items I asked for a smaller bag and he said theres werent any. I said never mind Ill just them in my backpack. He wasnt listening and kept trying to give me an oversized bag.
The store itself is fine but they TAKE FOREVER when you call them to check their stock. 4 out 5 cases they say theyll transfer you to the department but 5 min later someone entirely oblivious picks up the phone and you have to tell them what you want all over again. Be aware that they only carry 30% of what they have online.
Blicks is one of my favorite art supply stores. They tend to have most of the supplies that I need. The salespeople are very helpful and pleasant. They have great sales and occasionally fun games and prizes. They periodically demonstrate new products and you really never know what kind of surprise you will encounter at Blicks. The store is large as is their selection of products.
Difficult and confusing to be an art student, hopefully you are rich. If you are rich you may escape the worst part of dick blick you have to give him so much money for pens and pencils and the same shamefully large bag/billboard as all my new maybe we are friends. Friendly and non judgmental staff.
I called the main store located at 1-5 Bond St. in SoHo to check on an item I found on the online website, to see whether they had it in-store. A young lady answered the phone, named Shannon, who, assisted me. She got the description of the item I wanted and immediately ran to check the store for it.Her pleasantness over the phone really helped out, over ordering online again and having it shipped in from Chicago, rather than a direct purchase locally speaking, only a short subway ride from work ! !She confirmed that the item as viewed, online, is in-stock, and she really made a solid impression of the kind of employees who do work at Blick, that, make a difference when trying to get something as small as this, found. Really very nice to know that theyre really good in-store clerks that extend themselves when needed !!I love the art supplies at Blick (dickblick), and, highly impressed with their recent makeover, at the cashier counters. Neatly arranged, like being in Tokyo, Japan.too bad that most of the art supplies are carried outside of the locality of the store itself, housed in a huge warehouse in Ilinois !! Thats about 50% of the entire merchandise ... I think ... maybe more.Bernardo
Largest art supply store youll run into in downtown Manhattan near the heart of Chinatown. Stocked with a host of art supplies ranging from canvas, inks, air brushes, markers, t drafting tables. If your an art major this is the place to be! If you have any questions the staff will know how to answer it fast!
Carries on the tradition of great art supply stores in New York City. New York Central. Utretch. Canal Street Rubber. Pearl Paint. The Compleat Sculptor The Foam Store. Ain Plastics. Of course, you wont find the bargains or the enormous selections once available within a ten block radius but theres still plenty for everyone.
Since they renovated this store about a month ago, the shopping experience there has changed dramatically! They put walls up everywhere so that the openness feeling is totally destroyed. NOw it feels heavy and cramped. Its hard to get around any of the card and paper displays because its all crammed into one area like a maze. The toy merchandise of nick nacks which use to be displayed on a column that went around, use to be great, cuz you could see clearly what was being sold and linger on what you wanted to buy. Now its up high in theseThey put the cashiers all to the side, and you have to squeeze by a column to get by, which is ridiculous for someone who is carrying large art supplies. Forget it, if you have a baby stroller. Its almost impossible to see what cashier is available because you have this stupid column standing right in front of the line. Then once you finally get to the cash register to pay you have to stand directly behind another cash register person, which is completely uncomfortable. Bad Feng Shui.Whoever did the renovating for this store on Bond street, you did a job that wasnt thoroughly thought through. Now it feels like all the Utrecht stores that has gone out of business, cramped and ugly.

2022-04-15I’ve been here on a few separate occasions, however the most recent has been quite notable. I’ve been stumbling across lots of bob ross videos and I wanted to dip my feet in the oil painting world. I came across Angel, who happen to know almost everything about oil painting and how to begin. He walked me through the entire process of how to pick a brush, paints, cleaning processes, etc. The guy knew everything that I could have asked. Rarely do you find service as good as this nowadays and I’m pleased to know that I can come here and experience excellent service and you can depend on the advice/experience of the employees.

2022-04-21Quality store. Great range of pro level art supplies. The brush range, like all major art chains, suffers from the fact that people are essentially scum and thus finding a brush that hasnt been destroyed in store is tough, but the staff are friendly and helpful.

2019-08-02Blick on Bond Street has been my go-to art supply store for years. I don’t know what my life as a New York City artist would be like if it wasn’t for Blick. The store is incredibly well stocked, well organized, and spacious. I go there for my constant need of brushes, paper, stretchers, canvas, pencils, paints. The staff is always friendly and very knowledgeable. I’ve received many good tips on materials. The prices are competitively reasonable. And walking down Bond Street is an added bonus, as it is one of the rare, original New York City cobblestone street without much traffic.

2021-11-21Absolutely fantastic staff. I came in looking for materials that would help me give a lesson on projectile motion. Frankly speaking, I wasnt really sure what to get. A staff member gave me great advise on what I should use (seriously, thanks so much for suggesting graphite transfer paper because it worked extremely well!!).The store itself is large (two floors) and organized

2021-06-22This is like a michaels on steroids. It’s a super GENERAL art store. Like they will have everything you need to start a new hobby but not enough to go super deep into it. No niches here but absolutely astounding amount of art supplies. Two floors worth of stuff. Pens and markers to minis to painting canvases. There’s a lot to look at here at reasonable prices. The range is huge here.

2016-08-05Art, art , art , art I love being an artist. Blick remindes me of the old Pearl paint back in the 90s. Great selection, awesome prices friendly to pros, beginners, and hobbyists. At the end of the day Im just happy to throw some paint at the canvas. With Blicks great prices I have money left over to buy a cup of ramen.
