Bobby Vans in other cities:
Mediocre at best. Fried calamari and aioli sauce was good. Mac and cheese was good and piping hot. Lobster ravioli came out warm. Lobster was overcooked and tough to chew. Chicken sandwich was way overcooked, dark brown, could pass for burnt. And of course, we were one of few people who chose to sit indoors instead of outside and probably it was a mistake because we spent the duration of our dinner swatting flies. Little too big, 5-10 flies kept hovering over us, landing on plates. Spent the evening making sure I didnt eat one by accident. Server offered me another drink when he saw the fly just sitting on my straw. See picture for flies sitting in our finished plates. This place needs to get their health inspection redone because theres no way they should have a good grade with flies like that.
Great place for a steak dinner. Dined there several times on a Friday nite which I’ve found to be a less busy nite. Ordered the sirloin and ribeye... perfectly cooked as usual. Friendly and attentive staff. And as always, they gladly accepted my Living Social coupon. Will definitely come back again.
Awesome food. Great atmosphere. Strong drinks. We got the crab cake (appetizer), chilled crab meat (appetizer), filet mignon (main dish), sea scallops (main dish), and sauteed mushrooms (side) and asparagus (side). My husband got a Jameson and cranberry cocktail and I got a bottle of Stellina Di Notte (Prosecco). We also had a bottle water (Fiji) and sparkling water (S.pellegrino). The only problem that we incurred was that the sea scallop dish only came with 4 scallops but the brussel sprouts were very good so we couldnt complain much.
Went there with a work group, staff was friendly, cocktails were good. We tried mostly seafood items ironically and loved them- baked clams, sea bass and salmon (pictured) were all great. Chicken was good, t bone was decent but they don’t really season it much. Prices were as to be expected for a steak house in manhattan.
Solid spot, Oysters Rockefeller and warm spinach salad are a staple. Meat is always high quality and well cooked. They used to serve a gorgonzola porter house which is awesome and still available but you have to ask for it as its off menu now. Crab hollandaise fillet also pretty good.
Had a group dinner in the vault. It was amazing decor and the gentlemen at the bar was very friendly and funny. I enjoyed my time there. The steak was cooked to perfection and we had some hors-d’oevres before our meeting started. Minus 1 star because the waitress forgot our table when passing out the spinach and mash potatoes. We had to ask for them after we saw other tables have long gotten theirs
Average steak house with not adequate prices. The steak was tasty but not worthy its 60 USD. You get much better beef in other places. Further, the mashed potatoes had a lot of water. I think it is the way how they made it.All in all, the prices are too high for what they offer.
It was ok. I went here last night around opening time at 5pm with a party of four for a birthday. No one from the host to the manager to the server acknowledged that. I also specified allergies and that was not acknowledged as well. Two people arrived first and was initially sat down and the waitress quickly removed the other two place setting. We received two menus for four people and had to ask for more menus (after she visited the table several times). Two people ordered the Argentinean skirt steak($37) with the chimmicuri (?) sauce and two people got the Filet minion($48+). Nothing was cooked to the right temperature, as it was severely undercooked. The steaks do not come with a side so we had to order that separately and that was $10-12ea. It was served at room temperature. We went through the wine list and ordered several bottles that were no longer available. The steaks were tender and seasoned well and the wine we received was decent(Flora Springs Merlot 2016). It would have been lovely if there was a decanter and had a chance to breath. After our meal we were not offered any dessert or after dinner drinks so we opted to leave. Our bill was $391. We had a Siberian waitress who was pleasant at the table but overall some things were still lacking from this restaurant. Would I recommend it? No. We used the groupon special and it still was not worth it.
Had dinner there with a big group, so we got to have dinner down stairs in the old bank vault. If your lucky they will give a tour if the old vault. Super neat historic place. Food was delicious, best bone in rib-eye I had in a long time. Will visit again next time in NYC
What a meal. We started with Prosecco while enjoying fresh oysters and meaty crab cakes. Then had a beautiful bottle of Bordeaux to accompany our medium rare rib eye steaks — that came out better than steaks at Delmonicos or Strip House. The steak has a perfect crusty sear, temperature was spot on, seasoned perfectly, and arrived at the table sizzling hot. And that’s not to mention the fantastic creamed spinach and cheesy mashed potatoes. Finally, the cheese cake with a glass of port was amazing.Staff were exceptional too (thanks Benjamin!).Bobby Vans, you have created a return customer!
As a NYC icon for steak one would think a medium rare ribeye would be a slam dunk. This steak was sadly a solid medium well. It was over cooked and under rested. The service was friendly but lacked sophistication usually associated with a fine steakhouse. Desert, the chocolate mouse cake was good but did not taste like it was fresh or made in-house chocolate. All this to say two bites in and I knew I did not need to come back.
My son too me to the Broad and Exchange location. The service was fantastic. The food was perfect. I started with a wedge salad. It had heirloom tomatoes and real bacon and what tasted like a homemade blue cheese dressing. It was topped with these delicious perfectly fried sweet crispy onions. I only ate 1/2 because I wanted to save room for my 26 oz ribe eye. Big juicy and perfect medium. My son and I split sides of asparagus and mac and cheese. The appetizers are designed for 2. Didnt feel rushed at all. It is expensive but worth it for a special dinner.
The food was decent, but definitely not comparable to Peter Luger. That being said, the prices were similar. However, the service was poor. We had to go get the server at another table because we waited nearly 20 minutes to receive our bill. Please note, that there were only two tables occupied in the restaurant at that time.
We arrived with a party of 12 and were seat outdoors. It took almost an hour before anyone took our order. I asked for bread 6 times. I asked for water 5 times. I asked for menus 4 times. I asked for wine multiple times. The service was one of the worst experiences. I will never go back even though the food was not bad.
Table for 3 on a recent Saturday night. This particular Bobby Van’s location is downtown. Menu was dated. One ordered a salad for dinner (very basic greens with marginal use of tomatoes), one ordered a filet (12oz) but more like 8-9oz. Of the filet, about half was edible, the other half full of gristle. Is this acceptable for a small steak priced north of $45? Just because it was a “steak house” in NYC? One had a salad and broccoli soup. If you like extremely salty broccoli soup, this is for you and your blood pressure! It is offensive when restaurants ride off a rep.
A meal that costs over $100 should not include fruit flies in our wine. We dined outdoors. I, suggested they get citronella lamps and they thought I was insane for the idea. My wine was replaced twice due to the fruit flies. They kept covering it w/ a plastic lid. Outrageous. Unsanitary and gross. Also, pink soap is insulting w/ those prices.
I had a great meal in the Vault room. It felt like walking into an old bank vault. The giant door is open with the glass back so you can see the inner workings of the lock. The walls of the vault are all still the old security deposit boxes so it felt very authentic. The steak was really good I got a filet and was very pleased. The bread on the table was warm and delicious and the service was good too. They made the drinks strong at the bar and had a selection of about 10 beers. I know its a chain so I was hesitant in some ways, but it seems like they have found a good formula to keep each location unique, but consistent in quality.
I guess the guy I met on the street on the way to the restaurant should have been an omen. I was a block away from Bobby Vans and lost my bearings. PS, no cars are allowed in the area. When I asked him for directions, he happily pointed me in the right direction but warned be it wasnt very good. First off, the service for our large party of 20, was abysmal. It took over 45 minutes to serve us. The first ones served were finished eating, before the last were served. This was probablyy because they only assigned one waiter to handle our entire table. They brought us out warm plates for the steak but by the time the steak came, the plates were cold. The last two served, received the following comment from the waiter you asked for medium well, it takes longer to cook. Yeah, but not 45 minutes. As far as the food, slightly below what you would expect from a top NYC steakhouse. The Porterhouse was cooked perfectly but a little short on flavor. The creamed spinach wasnt creamed. The sweet potato fries were excellent, however, the couple sitting next to us were eating regular fries and complaining about how salty they were. I would say all in all, a solid 3, maybe 3.5.
Went here for a work lunch and had a good time. They have very very limited options if you dont eat steak so if someone in your group is vegetarian you might want to choose somewhere else. The steak though was pretty good (not the best steak Ive ever had) but very well portioned especially considering the price. The staff are very friendly, hospitable and considerate. One persons steak was a bit overcooked so they took it away but ended up bringing it back. The manager explained that they would absolutely cook them another steak but since that would take 20+ minutes and everyone else already had their food, they gave them two options. 1. They keep the steak and they comp the steak or 2. They cook another one. They ended up just eating the steak.Long story short, very considerate staff, good steak (not the best), and fancy atmosphere
My experience with Bobby Vans steakhouse was not good. The Chilean Sea Bass had a strong bad odor. The dish also lacked the flavor for the price they were asking for. The bone-in ribeye also had a strong odor that gave the impression that the meat was going bad. My wife and I had the mashed potatoes and wedge salad which seemed fine. The service was top-notch and they were completely attentive to our needs. I have decided that with the sea bass going for nearly $40 and the steak close to $60, this will be my last visit to this Bobby Vans
Food and service were both excellent as youd expect from Bobby Vans. Ill say that some finer details were a bit surprising however.Upon entering the establishment, the rug was entirely bunched up and a definite tripping hazard. Not a big deal, but a place that caters to a good amount of older gentlemen and lawyers certainly should not be so neglectful. Also while good food does take time and we were in no rush today, there was a noticeable delay in getting our food delivered to the table. It didnt detract from our experience today, but another party may have complained if they were in a rush. Luckily we had time to enjoy the great food and service today.
Gonna have to agree with Bryan on this. Service was non-existent. I might as well have taken my glass to the bathroom and poured my own water. The best part of the meal? The water. Steak was supposed to be medium rare, however mine still had a pulse and the accompanying sauce was given to my wife for her asparagus (which frankly, Im pretty sure was only given steroids and not an ounce of seasoning). The seafood platter that youll see everyone ordering, dont bother. Granted it isnt a seafood spot but messing up Lobster is a skill I didnt think one could have. Bobby can do better.
I have been going there for years, personal, business, and even had a major birthday bash with 30 people there. It is normally a 5 star experience, but I was there last night with a friend and unfortunately they are slipping a bit. Dont get me wrong, still great food and very good service, just not the meticulous outstanding service Ive experienced in the past. Its the attention to detail that separate the good from the outstanding, which should be standard in an upper end steak house. Just a few examples: the bartender had no idea how to make a sour (and when I finally did finish my pseudo sour and ordered a glass of wine, the empty glass was still on the table as we were moving on to dessert); the sides were left on the table and not plated; we asked for steak sauce and got a bottle of A-1. I asked the server, Didnt you used to have your own Bobby Vans sauce? and he returned with a small cup that we carefully rationed; we had to ask for a water refill each time we finished (which I will say the waiter promptly provided, but really, should you have to ask ...?) and we felt a bit rushed as we were winding down. Will I return? Yes. But, please, they need to get back to the first class service that has been their staple.
Wasnt blown away with their food. But they have a decent price point for the financial district. Had the porterhouse for two and the char was good and was cooked correctly to our temp. We also ordered the bacon and crab cakes for appetizers. The crab cakes were pretty good but lacked presentation. The bacon was pretty standard, medium cut decent flavor. All in all I felt underwhelmed with the experience. The location is so cool, I just expected a little more.
Absolutely no salt used in the dishes. I dont usually write reviews, but I was blown away at the fact that we ordered 60$ steaks and 30$ worth of sides and every dish was completely under-seasoned. We did order the sauteed mussels and the shrimp cocktail, which were great - but overall, for the price, not worth it.
Quality spot to have a meal and or a drink. Great food. Only downside was they started running out of the top shelf whiskey our clients were drinking. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to enjoy anhigh end experience or need a place to take clients. Gorgeous interior. Professional staff.
Great steak on a par with Peter luger...gorgeous place and quite unpretentious. Several visits and consistently first rate. Pricey but that is to be expected. Worth the money though. This is an update to the prior review I posted nine months ago:I come here somewhat regularly and the food and service has always been consistently excellent. From the charming way you are greeted on the phone when making a reservations to the attentive service and most importantly, the food, I have thoroughly enjoyed every visit. The porterhouse is the equal of peter luger, the massive filet mignon exceptional and the scallops are wonderful. I sometimes hope this trio of dishes was not so good so I would feel compelled to get something else from the menu but I and my table companions cannot ever from our favorites. Very welcoming staff and over all a rather beautiful interior. I write very few reviews but after several visits I felt this place deserved one.
Tried their food during the restaurant week. The portion size was generous. Love their cabbage salad (very creative). The steak was cooked to the right temp. Note, for dessert dont get their cheesecake, its the worse cheesecake that I have ever tried. Other then that, everything else were satisfactory.
This place seems to have really gone down hill. I ordered a bone-in ribeye. The first one was so tough and chewy that I could barely cut it with the steak knife. They took it back and sent me a new one which was only marginally better. I have (often) had better meat from a supermarket. Also, we wanted to order a good tawny Port for an after dinner drink. They had 10, 20, 30 and 40 year on the menu. All but the 10 year (not very good) was sold out. I ordered apple strudel ala mode for dessert. It was barely work, and the deep middle was actually cold. I give 2 starts rather than 1 because the service was pretty good, the oysters were good, the slab bacon was decent and the garlic mashed potatoes were very good. I dont think well be going back to Bobby Vans, which is a shame. It used to be very good.
Food was great. 48 for sirloin and 10 for mashed potatoes. You get what you pay for. Service was odd as a man was serving me and brought my food. A woman then brought me three check that had said she was the server. Change of shift shouldnt result in no service after the food but Id go back.
Very classy place to eat. The old wood floors to the lighting give this a old NY charm. The food is simply amazing! The staff is friendly and checks back on you to see if you need anything. This place is 6 stars out of 5. If you have the chance stop in and get a bite to eat, you wont regret it! From what I understand, there is a old vault in the floor below that people go into and have dinner. I have only been here for lunch.
Last week, took friends from out of town, here. Ive been here over a dozen times, in the last year alone, with friends. Food and service has been usually great. Unfortunately, things did not go well at all last week. First of all, when we got there, and seated, it took forever for them to get to us to start our order. It wasnt packed in there! Out of the 5 of us, 3 of us had issues with our order. My steak was supposed to be medium rare, it came WELL DONE! Myself and my two other friends pointed out our grievances to our waiter. The waiter seemed to have somewhat of an attitude, but took our steaks back anyway. Sides were cold, sent them back! Overall, everybody ended up eating at different times. Food was no where up to their usual standard, poor service, they paid very little attention to us for the rest of the time we were there. Our B.V. experience was definitely ruined. We spent a lot of money there!! No one there at B.V. ever offered us an apology. Totally disappointed. Will NOT be back there in the foreseeable future!
We went for dinner to celebrate a friend’s birthday. She suggested for us to join her and her husband that she had a Groupon. We got a last-minute reservation on a Wednesday at 7:30 pm. It wasnt too busy when we were there. Service was excellent. We were treated very well, which isnt always the case when using a groupon. The food was excellent the Baked Clams were wonderful, and we had the Chilean Sea Bass, the Lamb Chops and the Bone-in Ribeye for our entrees which did not disappoint.
I went here during restaurant week, so I had their prefix dinner menu. We made reservations just in case the place would be packed, but there was actually a lot of room and empty tables around. The service was decent, nothing spectacular, but the overall atmosphere was very nice and business elegant (people looked like they could be discussing future business prospects). The bread they served, was hard to eat since it was very though on the teeth; I dont know if it was stale or just the kind of bread they serve. I was pretty impressed with the portion of their entree, I got a seafood dish, which had truffle oil on it... I think it would have tasted better without it, so thats something to consider if you arent really a fan of that scent and taste. Overall, it was a nice dinner, so you should really take advantage if there are deals and promotions like restaurant week to check it out.
Was never asked for water, I never requested it and never drank it, but they charged me $10 for Flat Water. I did not see the charge till the next day and the waiter rushed me in giving my card to charge it. Very shady! Additionally my ribeye was very under seasoned. Cooked and looked beautiful, but no flavor. I have been a long time customer of Bobby Vans and been to all location in NYC but safe to say after burning me I will find other places to get my steaks. Very disappointed in your poor business practices.
The waiter lied to my sister, and told her they had Ciroc vodka. Instead he brought her something else up with olives. She did not like, nor did she drink. Upon leaving, we stopped at the bar, and she asked the bartender if they had Ciroc vodka. They did not. The waiter did not have to lie, just give the other options. Do not go there past 9:30 on a Tuesday. The waiter was cranky, and wanted to leave. If you are paying top dollar, or any dollar for that matter, your waiter should not practically throw your cheesecake on the table. Besides that, pretty atmosphere, and the host staff were very nice.
I wish I could give this place more than 5 stars. I travel for business and frequently have lunch with business clients. This time it was for pleasure celebrating my wifes birthday. Everything was top shelf from the time we entered, sat down and ordered drinks. Moving on to appetizers and then to our delicious meat entrees nothing was missed. Then to top it off, my wifes carrot cake dessert came out of the kitchen with a lit candle and 4 waiters singing Happy Birthday..!!
Overall good dinner experience. Many better steakhouses in Manhattan but got a Groupon $200 value for $111. Great, perfectly cooked and crusted porterhouse for 2 but a little overpriced for the size @ $118. Good sides. French onion soup was terrific. Excellent creme brulee. Only slight negative was the service/training. Server was nice but made mistakes (didnt offer wine taste on $100 bottle), slow.Without the Groupon, not worth it.
I could definitely say Im a big foodie fan for a great service and fabulous food. But in this case I have to rate this restaurant that Ive been hearing so much about one star. The steak was very raw when I got it I asked for medium.. the service ugh I ordered baked clams oregano they were so cold and they still have the sand inside the clams.. my steak you can still see the Cartledge on my steak.. my bone in ribeye was pretty tough Im in shock its usually a very buttered steak.. while I was there every customer I still get the steak have returned it every customer that was there and there wasnt too many people.. lets just say I will never ever go back to Bobby Vans now real good steakhouses Mark Joseph..
We had a reservation for 9 pm not sure if this is why we received the service that we did or the groupon that was purchased, nevertheless, we felt that the service was rushed. The manager talk to the tables that were beside us and never once did he approached us to ask us how our dinner was. I was disappointed in the scallops because they were dry and over seasoned. 2 years past I had scallops that were baked with caramelized apple and it was to die for. Based on my experience I dont think I would want to return to this restaurant and may venture to other steakhouses.
Came here on a Groupon. The steaks were very good. We ordered the Porterhouse and ribeye. Both were delicious but the ribeye was the best, so juicy and full of beefy flavor. The sides were hit and miss. The garlic mashed potatoes were a complete surprise. It looked bland but it was creamy, garlicky, well-seasoned, and overall the best side dish. The most disappointing was the parmesan truffle fries. The stale fries covered with cheese bits had almost no truffle taste. The cheese also had no cheese flavor. The Mac and Cheese was also bland and watery. For an appetizer we ordered sliced bacon. Although they were generous with their portions, through bacon itself was hard, chewy, and did not have a lot of flavor. Overall all, go and get the steaks and garlic mashed potatoes. Skip everything else. ( Were not big drinkers but they have an impressive wine list. So if you like wine you should stop by.)
It seems as if this place has fallen off quite a bit over the last few years. The menu is a typical steakhouse menu and the service was good but that was about it. My ribeye was dry and chewy, the Cobb salad was a disaster and the Brussel sprouts were bland. There are better steakhouse downtown.
This is a tough one. Porterhouse for 3 was excellent. The steak is probably up there with some of the best. Brocolli and green bean sides were very tasty. Service was lacking attention to detail and just a little lethargic and apathetic. But..VERY accommodating when I asked for help and changes that we needed. So its tough. Go for good steak, but the experiende for what you pay is underwhelming.
The waiter was unable to manage the table and mixed up all of the orders. In their defense I went with a large party during restaurant week but still. It took us all about three plate passes until we found our right orders. By the time we figured it all out none of us were blown away by the food; more hype than anything. I dont see myself going back there.
The worst steakhouse experience of my life.... I invited my coworkers to a dinner... We were scalded for arriving 30mins late with an empty dining room... I was personally denied drinks by some very young ponytailed punk who didnt not even introduce himself and we as a table were denied desserts at the end of the meal too!Additionally we must have gotten the worst porterhouse we ever had because it was just not a good quality meat... We typically have a steakhouse dinners at least twice a month and this was by far the worst NYC steakhouse experience ever.Terrible!
This was our third and last visit to this upscale eatery after a very disappointing dining experience. Both of our steaks were way overdone..my filet mignon so much so, that i had to send it back...like a piece of shoe leather. My husband felt too embarrassed to send his back as well and picked at his $62 steak. That of course, was his fault because they would have graciosly made him another as well. By the time my redo came 20 mins later, i was no longer hungry (after eating apps and sides)and took it home. Ate it for lunch today...it was just meh. Though the service was gracious, a $200 meal shouldnt go down this way. Very hit or miss. Wont be back.
I am honestly quite surprised about the bad reviews on this place. This is definitely one of the best steakhouses in NYC! And trust me, Ive been to plenty. The service was great, and all the waiters were attentive. The only bad thing I have to say about this place are the reviews.
My ribeye was completely under seasoned, needless to say the meal turned out to be a complete disappointment. I have been a long time customer of Bobby Vans and been to all location in NYC but safe to say after burning me , I will find other places to get my steaks. Very disappointed in your poor business practices.
Worst SteakHouse ever (and Ive eat at hundreds); could have gotten a better steak at walmart, quality was awful (didnt even bring home leftovers); service wasnt great (although place was busy), half of the wine we ordered from the wine list they no longer had in stock (although they were nice enough to discount other bottles to provide comparable prices). Honestly if your deciding between this place and Longhorn, go to Longhorn, itll blow your mind. Dont even attempt to compare this place to a true Steakhouse it doesnt even come close. Just aweful - sad part is we were entertaining a prospective customer, and he had an absolutely miserable experience. Hopefully we dont lose business because this place couldnt deliver. STAY AWAY.
I had been in New York for about ten days before I stumbled across the Bobby Vans upstairs at 25 Broad Street. It looked great from the outside and I had heard of the chain but thought I would be under dressed in my travel gear. I stuck my head in the door to check and was greated politely and warmly by the assistant manager who just happened to be near by.I was treated to a most lovely meal of their 10oz filet mignon (rare) with sides of Shoe string fries and some nicely cooked seasonal Vegetables. The Wine was suggested by the waiter was a heavier Napa Valley Red and although unknown to me was an excellent choice. The staff were happy to chat and made me most welcome. The Decor is impressive as is the Bar area! The quick lunch turned into a couple of hours.I have recommended it to 2 friends who have also had good experiences there!
Bobby Vans at lunch is a bit empty. Otherwise, it was a great experience. Food was good, decor was awesome, I certainly enjoyed myself there. I think do recall a vault of some sort in Bobby Vans. Im not sure if I will revisit but it was well worth the first time experience.
The Indian male waiter here is so rude n lack customer service. We can here for a birthday dinner and was rushed because we got here at 945 our reservation time n the kitchen closed at 10pm. I ordered creme bur la dont know if I spelled that right but whatever. The desert n he brought it out cold. When my bf ask isnt the pose to be warm which it can be, he lies n said no. I order that desert all the time, so I shouted yes it can be warmed. Thats not all he brought our check before we was even done dining. The list goes on n on of things he did. Smh. Ooo n I asked the same waiter to ask the manger to see the volt n he said he dont think its possible, come to find out he never asked the manager for us.But in the end I got to see the volt thats why I really came here n because my bf asked the manager he allowed us to.Food was good. But honestly because of him I didnt enjoy my time here. N the only reason I didnt report him is because I dont want it to be on my heart if he gets written up n eventually loose his job. But Im sure other people will complain on him soon. Smh
Blue Note gets a 5 for the music and a 1 or 2 for the rest.We went there for Sunday brunch. Great music, as I said. But the food was mediocre and they jam every possible person in with a crowbar. Get a seat facing the stage because its awkward/uncomfortable if you have to twist around for a 1 hour set.
Ive been to this restaurant several times and the food gets worse and worse everytime. I always ask for my steak to be cooked well done and always have to send it back because it is undercooked. The last time I went, I has a very upset stomach that night. I definitely wont be coming back.
First and foremost I would love to think of my self as a steak connoisseur. I have been to many steak houses in the tri-state area including the wonderfull Delmonicos. I have also been to MarkJoseph steakhouse, Capital Grille, Reserve Cut as well as Balvenera and let me tell you that Bobby Vans had the worst quality of service. I waited FOREVER for my food and all I ordered was a Skirt Steak with baby arugula. And the waiter was extremely rude. He first got and attitude with me when I asked for a little more time to decide what I wanted to order. Also he refered to me and bruh and we are not even related. Once my food came out my steak was smelling delicious HOWEVER once I cut a peice and tasted it it was not delicious at all the steak was extremely dry and not to my liking infact the steak tasted quite bland. I will not be returning her ever again. If I want a skirt steak I will go to Cuban peetes and they arent even a steakhouse.
Food is decent for a New York steak house. I find the steaks much tastier at Delmonicos. The atmosphere and staff is stuffy and dark, while there is far more life and friendliness at places like Capital Grille. Bottomline, your money is probably better spent at other steakhouses while Bobby Vans service and quality took a nose dive over the recent years. The only people that go there now are clueless tourists, bridge and tunnel commuters that are just happy to be in Manhattan, first time business meetings, and repeat customers that get hooked up by the bartender. Spend your money wisely.* Place is also very outdated. The whole time I was there I was distracted by the thought of what I would do to improve it if I was the owner/GM. Paint job, staff overhaul, menu upgrade, etc.
So I called few days before Valentine’s Day made reservations for Valentine’s Day just to find out they was closed on Valentine’s Day like what would make you take reservations then not to be open! Stay clear of this place almost ruined Valentine’s for me!! Never again!!!
The server that I had made me feel as if I was in Harlem rather than the Financial District. Youd think theyd make sure my filet mignon was properly cooked and it was nowhere near both times I asked them if they cooked it right. This bobby vans is not my cup of tea at all
I went there on a Frdiay and its the last day of new york restaurant week, the food is bad and the portion is small, so I paid a total of $35 so I can take $5 off 35 for american express offer, then, the restaurant may know this offer, in the end, they charged me for 34.99 instead of 35! Way to get back to customer for not paying 25% tip because of bad food quality! will never go there again

2022-01-21Wandering around the City, we took a chance on this place at night, with no reservation, but only the hope to find chairs available at the bar, which we did. The rest was as wonderful as we expected! The bartender was tremendous and provided excellent service and hilarious stories! Fantastic drinks & food.

2022-01-30A great steak centric restaurant. The steak was great. Was comped an Expresso Martini.Great place to impress a date!A steak is pricey but meant to be shared as each piece is large and high quality cut meats! You can be sure if you order rare youd get rare, as they have great care towards cooking temperature! See pics. The shining star here for us is the Steak filet on toast with Gorgonzola cheese!🤤🤤We could eat those all day and drink! And next time were back thats just what well do! 🤣🤣🤤Oh and the drinks are certainly not watered down here, my drink lasted me all meal! Though two drinks would be a perfect amount as well!Between the filet on toast, steak porterhouse for 2, and sides of Mac and cheese and mushrooms, we were too stuffed to order dessert! 😅🤤The bread and whipped butter are fresh and great quality too, be careful not to stuff yourself with these lol

2022-03-15Bobby Vans whats there to say. A warm and comfortable environment. Absolutely rustic showing age and personality in the detail of construction. The staff was excellent. Wait service was neat and clean with exceptional knowledge in the menu especially with offering tips on what they recommend. My family always said you get what you pay for. The appetizers were delicious. Making way for my Entrée a 28 day dry aged Bone in Rib Eye steak with your classic sides to pick from I recommend the sautéed spinach. Cooked to perfection on a warm outside hot pink inside Medium rare. Not to mention a well thought out drink menu. If I had to recommend a steak house in lower Manhattan it would definitely be Bobby Vans.

2022-02-13Went here today for a nice dinner with my husband for valentines weekend. We picked this place due to the cool atmosphere on the pictures with the vault. We were a little disappointed that part of the restaurant is currently closed, but the hostess made up for it by giving us a private tour. We got to see it and take some pictures. She was absolutely amazing and so friendly. Our waitress also was wonderful. We would be happy to come back again. The steak was delicious and nice drink selection. A+++++ on the above and beyond. Great job!!! To the manager... you have top notch employees.

2021-09-16The filet mignon steak was cooked to perfection, the Mac and cheese was good but I’ve had better. The lobster raviolis are a must try even came with a piece of lobster on top and the tuna tartare needed a little something extra. The blue point oysters are always a good choice. & the creme brûlée was definitely worth the calories smooth with a hint of sweetness. Overall good food and service, limited parking in area unless paying for parking.

2021-03-18Great cuts of meat, though Ive had a better filet mignon at other places. The sides, broccoli and French fries were fresh and prepared well. And the cheese cake with strawberries for dessert was very good (wich was a surprise when brought to the table, because we had ordered the chocolate cake). The waiters are friendly and the venue looks very stylish, next time I hope to see the vault.

2022-06-28This place is around the corner from where I work so I have been there a number of times. Last night I went there with my wife. I ordered a Manhattan with Bulleit rye. When we received the bill, I noticed that they charged me $30 for my drink! I like Bulleit, but it’s not exactly a super premium whiskey. Thirty dollars. When I asked the bartender about the price he tried to explain it, but then offered us free dessert. This location is closing so maybe they are trying to squeeze all they can out of it. You can rip me off for a lot of things, but don’t mess with my cocktails. Sorry Bobby, but you won’t be seeing me again.
