Edit: 6/28 - came here for a dinner with friends. The review stands but I strongly recommend not getting the parm mashed potatoes as it did not feel like it had any cheese to it.Came here for a work dinner so don’t have pictures but this was one of the top Italian meals in the city.Love love love everything! We went during restaurant week and they had a series of things to pick across 3 courses.10/10 - bread on the table was so yummy. Only reason for calling it out is the spicy sauce they give alongside the bread which was delish!10/10 - truffle arancini… I’m such a big fan of arancini and the subtle truffle flavor took it over the top for me15/10 - cacio e Pepe - the pasta was perfectly cooked, chewy but not hard and the flavors of the sauce and the hint of pepper in the sauce was OM MY GOD!10/10 - tiramisu- just your usual tiramisu but was super soft, drenched in alcohol and the perfect ending to a great meal.
We went for brunch. It was very quiet for a Saturday and we sat outside. Good cocktails and i enjoyed a classic preparation of Spaghetti a la Carbonara. Wife and daughter enjoyed avocado toast and the boys had pancakes. It was somewhat pricey, but if you have a special dish in mind i expect you will enjoy.
Cool Italian spot with great options. We both ordered a pasta and it was tasty, mamma Mia. They were busy and were still able to accommodate us even though we didn’t have reservations. Everyone spoke Italian so it definitely added to the vibe. Had to come here after eating a tomahawk across the street and still being hungry. Must try this place if you’re in the area!
I had a very enjoyable meal and drinks at Bocca. Like many NYC restaurants there was a nice cocktail list and the Haze with Rye went down well. The pasta offerings with cracked pepper were done well. The restaurant due to its size has a pleasant atmosphere. Staff were busy but responsive. Worth a visit.
I recently came to Bocca Cucina and Bar for outdoor dining while on a date night with my boyfriend. It was such an amazing experience. The service was excellent. The shishito peppers appetizer was a fun unique dish! The pasta dishes were absolutely incredible. We also loved that we were able to order a glass and a half of wine to go with our meal! We cant wait to come back!
Came here for a team dinner on a Tuesday night, reservations for 9. The food was delicious and fresh but the wait was quite long, even for tables of only 2-4ppl. I only noticed 2 servers on the floor which I’m sure contributed to the long wait. I ordered the lamb ragu (has a munch fancier name I can’t remember on the menu) and the “Grab a Pear” cocktail. Delish.Overall, the service was good and the owner/bartender were also super friendly.
Excellent service and really good food too.. had a very positive experience at Bocca. We ordered a few bottles of wine and the servers were knowledgeable enough to make wine recommendations based on our preference and liking. Food was excellent as well, including half a dozen appetizers that we ordered.Service was exceptional and food arrived within 20 minutes of ordering.
A nice Italian restaurant with solid food. Service was great with our Italian server knowing how to converse and joke with us and help us with our selections. The vermentino de sardegna wine was amazing and went well with our food (chosen by the server). Will definitely come back to try some more food and wine!
Recommended! Very pleasant experience. They were super accommodating to adjust dishes to be less spicy since Im pregnant. Everything I had was delicious. Started with burrata appetizer and salad with shaved vegetables. For main dish I got the pasta made in the cheese wheel but with less pepper and my sister got the squid ink gnocchi and crab. We both cleaned our plates then finished with a tiramisu. Nice atmosphere. Will go back for sure.
This is a nice, cute Italian restaurant. Excellent customer service. Good waiting times. I had the POLPETTINE AL POMODORO (Veal meatballs, tomato sauce, grated parmigiano) for just over $17 (including tax). It was very nice and I liked the free complimentary bread. However I do wish they had put more meatballs in one portion.
Went to Bocca as the restaurant week menu looked interesting so we thought wed give it a try. Got there pretty early so it wasnt too busy or noisy during our dinner. There a lot of people at the bar by the time we left, but still not noisy. We had the crab cake and veal meatballs for the appetizers, I preferred the crab cake, the meatballs were a little tightly packed and didnt have a huge amount of taste. For the main course we had the pappardelle with lamb shank and the slow roasted pork shoulder porchetta. Both were very nice, I mistook the pork shoulder for duck at first due to the thinness of the skin., slightly chewy but went very well with the pork meat. The dessert of chocolate molten cake and panna cotta were fine too.Service was fast and friendly, though this is another restaurant that took our bread plates away after the appetizer, yet left the bread plate on the table. Is this becoming a thing in NY?!?Anyway, a good restaurant and would certainly go back if Im in the area.
This quaint restaurant, located in the Gramercy part of NYC, has some of the best Italian food from the Capri region! Its unpretentious and delicious. Their bar will serve up any classic or innovative cocktail you request. They have great customer service and the vibe is cool!
An Italian dining experience of a lifetime! We celebrated a birthday here and were treated like royalty. The food is all superbly prepared (beyond tasty and well seasoned). Drinks are perfectly made. Youll be more than glad you chose to dine here. Covid-19 protocols are enforced. No complaints from any of us (party of seven). Bon appétit!
Spectacular food! Absolutely gorgeous wine(Ferentano 2015 from Lazio)! But most importantly ask for Niko (or Nicco i may be wrong with the spelling, apologies). He is THE BEST HOST i have ever had attend to me at any restaurant. He made our Anniversary super special with perfect pairing suggestions of wine and food and the whole team was just super friendly and made the experience an absolute joy! I recommend this place to absolutely everyone. Thanks again Niko! God bless!
Do you want your morals to be disrespected and for you to feel like garbage for having those morals? Then look no further, and visit Bocca Cucina and Bar! This restaurant is NOT friendly to anyone who loves animals. The menu is marked with vegan and vegetarian options. I told the waiter I was vegan, and he said they can make me a vegan pasta al pomodoro. When the plate came, their was cheese on it. So I reminded the waiter that I was vegan. He asked me if I told him that. I told him yes, thats why we did a special order. 2nd time the pasta came with no cheese. I took a few bites to only find meat everywhere. I told the waiter that I have not had meat in my system for 13 years. He again asked me, did you tell me you were vegan? I said yes. Thats why we did the special order and we had to send back the cheese! I told him vegan means no meat. He told me he knew. Then why did you not tell me the pasta came with meat?! He was very unapologetic to me after my morals were destroyed after 13 years of living my lifestyle. The manager came and he seemed upset with me too! He did not respect my morals. This is 13 years of my lifestyle- and he ruined it. I was crying because I put an innocent animal in my mouth after 13 years. He didnt seem to care that I was absolutely Devastated. I respect people who eat meat. Why cant I be respected too? Oh and he made us pay for our meal after my morals were destroyed along with dealing beyond devastated!!! My morals were not respected, and they made me feel like garbage for what I believed in!!! I want all my money back!! I cant believe I had to pay them after they ruined 13 years of my lifestyle and didnt seem to care!
Had a wonderful time here with my partner and best friend. Margherita pizza and grilled octopus were excellent. Mains like the black gnocchi with crab meat, pappardelle with lamb and salmon and vegetables are great options. Drinks-wise the old smokey was terrific and had excellent flavor.
Fun neighborhood Italian restaurant with amazing food. The fresh hamachi with the lemon sorbet and pistachios was a show stopper. Fun Italian staff. Finished with the cannoli, definitely worth the calories. Wine list is different and fairly priced which is unusual in Manhattan
I was in the area and was looking for any Italian restaurant. I ending up dinning at this one and ate some of the best salmon I’ve ever had. In addition to the food, the wait staff was extremely friendly and helpful and the food came out pretty quick. The next time I’m in the city I’m coming back to try more plates.
Such a cute space. From walking in we were greeted and the took our coats. We were seated very quickly asked our preference of water. Space was cute and cozy with enough space between tables. Our drinks were very good. We just ordered main dishes. They were all delish i had the squid gnocchi with crab meat. Amazingly delicious and there was just enough crab meat. It was my cousins birthday and they gave us complimentary dessert. Everyone was lovely. I wish I knew their names. I will be back. Ciao.
I really wanted to give this 4 stars but the service was so unbelievably slow I couldn’t do it. Took over 30 min to get the first round of drinks and closer to 45 to get the second round. The pasta with truffles was absolutely delicious but everything else was mediocre.
Definitely not your parents tomato sauce and pasta Italian restaurant. The hamachi carpaccio with pistachios was lovely and the lemon sorbet was a delightful addition to the dish. The roasted cauliflower was beautifully served as well as tasty, and the orecchiette with clams and broccoli rabe was surprisingly intensely flavored and very delicious. Not generally one to eat dessert, because it was my friends birthday we ordered the expresso chocolate confection with hazelnut ice cream, which was so wonderful It was worth the calories. The only disappointment was the crust on the focacci, although the flavor of the gorgonzola, mushrooms and truffle oil definitely made the dish worth eating, the crust was too thin and a little oily. All told this was an excellent meal that I would recommend to anyone.
This place was fabulous! The staff was lovely and very attentive. It was a brunch menu (dont look at menu here or at website) which was a diverse mix. The food was flavorful but not overdone. Presentation was beautiful. And we choose to sit outside but we will be back to sit indoors.
Really enjoyed this place. Phenomenal service, waiter was knowledgeable, and spoke very slow with his heavy Italian accent. The gnocchi were maybe the best Ive ever had. Good wine selection, the waiter let me sample mine first. Really impressive place, great location, really great atmosphere and service. Well be back on our next trip into the city!
Welcoming service, delicious and unusual menu of Roman dishes which we shared at our birthday celebration dinner. Not rushed. We were allowed to linger and chat after dessert. My first time, but looked like a place regulars frequent.Relaxed atmosphere.Good wine listFair pricing!I’m not from the area but look forward to returning as we all enjoyed the evening so much.BravoMichael S.
Reviews of Bocca suggested a restaurant with a cozy, pleasant atmosphere, given its smaller size. While I would say that the restaurant is cozy, since the spacing between tables is quite limited, I wouldnt call the atmosphere pleasant. It was uncomfortably loud, so much so that my dinner guest and I had to lean across the table, straining to hear what each other was saying. Eventually we caved and added our elevated voices to the cacophony so we could carry on a conversation. Im unsure what can be done to remedy this; but if Bocca is recommended to you for date-night, or catching up for a friend - especially on a weekend night - I would pass.I will say that the food was very good. My pasta with mushrooms was perfectly cooked and seasoned. My dinner guests branzino was equally tender and delicious. Our waiter was also attentive and made sure to speak up so we could hear the specials list. Overall I would come back to Bocca, for the food, and Id try again on a weekday night.
You walk in and are immediately welcomed with bright faces and an eager staff. Everyone was so kind and caring from start to finish. The food was PHENOMENAL (a true Italian menu!), and the wine recommendations were on point. The staff were very knowledgeable regarding everything on the food and drink menu. Nico, the manager, was invested in our satisfaction, and could be seen checking in on every table multiple times throughout the evening. We were a group of five adults, but the place was also very family friendly. I will be taking my kids here in the near future!
Truly a wonderful dining experience where the staff treats everyone like family & friends. The calamari antipasti is one of the best in the city. And the homemade pasta dishes are divine. Highly recommend this restaurant to people who want the best in atmosphere, food, and service. I would have to say that this is one of the best restaurants in all of NYC. Truly a hidden gem.
Calling this place mediocre would give the restaurant more credit than its worth. The food was mediocre at best regardless of price, but at prices charged were a crime! Appetizers which are typically a favorite for me were all a disappointment - we ordered 4. Waiters did not know the food they were serving - none of them. I ended up with a very different pasta than described to me by our waiter. It was bland and mediocre as was the pasta served to others at the table. When we asked the waiter to describe a dessert he shrugged and walked away! You can image that desserts were similarly disappointing. What a waste of a meal, especially in a city with so many incredible options.
Fantastic Italian restaurant, the staffs are nice and friendly. The atmosphere feels comfortable and relaxing, good music. The food was delicious I should of ordered more food. Was hard to get the servers attention to get our check took them 20 mins to deliver the check to my table. Overall pretty good solid restaurant
Stopped by on a whim, it was just as they opened and a snow storm had started so the restaurant was almost empty. Im so glad that I did! First the Grab a Pear cocktail - I dont care for licorice, but the cocktails Pernod rinse was subtle, and the flower petals scattered on top added a beautiful touch. Next, a decadent 4-cheese gnocchi. You dont often find these perfect little pillows prepared well, and Bocca certainly didnt disappoint.
They had a great menu for Restaurant Week.We really enjoyed the food. We got the Veal Meatballs and the Beef Carpaccio for appetizers and the Braised Lamb Ragu for our main. It was really high quality and on top of that our waitress was the best. She was so friendly and helpful.
The pasta was very delicious and the bartender Mary was so knowledgeable about the entire menu and really helped guide me to make the perfect choice. I will def. be coming back here next time I’m visiting New York from Germany and will refer friends traveling to come. She’s a standout and so is the ambiance and taste of this restaurant.
Price, service, and food quality all top notch. I was in NYC for one day and we were well taken care of by the staff including an attentive manager. Our server Nicole was friendly and very helpful in narrowing down our selections. The food was excellent (lasagna with porcini mushrooms and Gorgonzola AND pasta with shredded lamb shank in a tomoato based sauce) and the price was very approachable for NYC.It was so enjoyable we referred a party of 4 looking at the Craft menu next door (and choosing to move on) and they were excited after we described our dishes.
Stumbled in by chance and asked if we could eat off the dinner menu as am sick and tired of the brunch only menus in NY on the weekend... So very happy as the manager was immediately accommodating and the food was amazing. Incredible 3 bean soup, grilled octopus and the shishoto peppers are all a must.Organic salmon with sunchoke and the orrechietti with pesto amazing...Not too pricey and worth every penny
Best cacio e Pepe I’ve had in NYC! Surprisingly, after trying an authentic Italian cacio e Pepe, it was hard to find a good one in the city. Tried different places and finally went to Bocca where I was delighted by a very well done cacio e Pepe, creamy and with coarse black pepper. They also have an excellent service.
Whoever said there is no good Italian food in NYC, I beg to differ. Bocca will take you by surprise. If you happen to see Bocca featured on Restaurant Week or any other type of discounted fare, take advantage. Its the best way to sample the restaurant. And by sample, I mean full on portions. The wine list is decent and the sommelier was very helpful. This is a great date restaurant. The food is just divine. Its the first restaurant Ive been to where they swirl your pasta in a big cheese wheel. Ive since had it at other places but it just isnt the same. Id gladly go again, even pay full price.
This is my secret lunch place when I have time to take an hour break. The lunch special is affordable and gives you a great selection of pasta. Im a huge fan of the old Italian feel to the place with even an outdoor section. The food itself is unbelievable and reminds me of Italy. The pasta was cooked the right way - slightly al dente and lightly drizzled with grated cheese. I cant wait to go back and try more entrees.
Upon entering the door of the restaurant, we were greeted with a smile by a gregarious host and quickly refreshed with our choice of beverage before looking over the menu. The food was De-li-cious! I ordered the salmon and it came along with grilled, mini potatos and onions. The green salad was just the right serving size. I enjoyed the twist on olive oil for bread diffing as well. Overall, great service and food!
Overall, a good experience. The dishes are creative and tasty, the atmoshere cozy and the wait staff generally good. My pasta dish fell a little short in that it had plenty of pasta but not enough meat and sauce to accompany. I was brogut the wrong salad but the waitress ultimately brought the correct one as well and didnt charge for it.
There’s a really good tomato concoction that is served with the bread (and they are stingy with the sauce, so be prepared to asked multiple times for more than one serving for a group of 7). Other than that, everything else is subpar al dente pasta smothered in cheese to make up for the fact that they don’t have any decent sauces.
They have a great location and they offer good food. But i can;t say that the memory of it will stay with me for a long time. It was fresh, clean and tasted OK, but no more than that. But since i got recommendations about Bocca from 3 different people, i will try them again.
I love this place. I usually sit at the bar and eat, and its usually quiet. Atmosphere is dimmed lighting which I like. I usually order the lamb pappardelle which is amazing. I like the fact that the owner is there whenever I go. This place is definitely worth trying.
A stuffy place that’s trying too hard and charging too much. My friend called it “faux fancy.” Reminded me of Cheesecake Factory lol...Cacio e Pepe came out in a cheese wheel served tableside, which looked cool, but tasted just ok.Salad was whatever. Barely any flavor. The marinara sauce served with the bread had a weird umami flavor that we surmised was sundries tomato... it felt out of place and weird. Keep it simple. One decent thing was the calamari, which was light and fresh and cooked well. The strawberry syrup on the panna cotta tasted artificial, like something from a can.The service was ok but the maitre d was a stick in the mud. Refused to sit our party together even though a table right next to us was open. Made me wanna order less food, which thank god I did, because this meal was so expensive for such a crappy experience.BYEEEEEEEE!!!!!
Horrible experience and we would never go back. We waited 1 hr for our food only to find out the waiter never put the order in so we had to wait another hour for food to be cooked. We should have left then.Manager was inefficient and he should have compt the whole meal-----instead offered 10% off which meant nothing and a desert. I am going to post the desert next page------it looked like salad dressing but was supposed to be cheese cake--------a complete joke------after I took a picture I threw it out--oh, and the manager told us that the waiter went home in the middle of our meal. Bizarre and unacceptable.
Bocca is a classy and pretty upscale restaurant in North Union Square. I came here with my girlfriend and she had coupon so we got to order quite a few dishes. We started with this insalata rucola e pere. It is a very refreshing and light salad. We love how the pear makes the salad fruity and delicious. For entree, I had the carbonara pasta with wheat spaghetti. It is just the way I like it. It is creamy, thick with aromatic bacon bits mixed with the only healthy ingredients, wheat spaghetti in it! I was so full after this dish.We also shared a sauteed brussel sprouts side dish for our pastas. It is very good too.We ended our dinner with their warm flourless chocolate brownie. It is dark and rich and I wish I could eat that everyday!
We had made reservations for a table. We were there 10 mins before time just to make sure we didnt lose our spot. Anyway, after waiting for 30 mins we finally left. The group which came after us was given priority just because they were five, we were three. Staff was rude as well.
Bocca on E. 19th St. is our favorite go to restaurant whenever we come to the City. Their food and selection of wines are out of this world! Bocca reminds us of our favorite Italian cities, without having to hop a flight. Nico, the waitress and bartender are always helpful and considerate of our needs. We cant wait to go back! Elle & Hy

2022-02-21Such a cute spot in the city. I hadn’t been here before but I truly enjoyed dinner there and will return. Their service was great, even on a busy night. Their food was delicious. My favorites were the pasta that arrived in a cheese wheel as well as the hazelnut sorbet. 10/10

2021-10-29We had an incredible time at Bocca. The staff was exceptional and the food was incredible. The owners accommodate my teenage daughter who has a very difficult time eating out. She had an incredible time and enjoyed her meal. They were so understanding of her condition and made every effort to make this an enjoyable experience and they did. The bartender was fantastic too. We were a large party and I didn’t want to crowd his bar and take from others but he insisted we sit and have a drink. He was putting us first. We live in NC but this will be our go to restaurant when we visit Manhattan.

2022-01-12Such a fun experience. A reservation would be better but we sat at the bar without one and had a great time. Intricate cocktails and we finished off our meal with a shot of limoncello (well… 2). Delicious pasta - the cacio e pepe comes IN the cheese block itself and most of their pasta is made in house. Super fun Italian experience - will be back!!

2021-11-09Great food, great drinks, great atmosphere. Bocca Cucina manages to be both upscale and casual, both trendy and comfortable. Everything we ordered was ALL worth it. We ordered a number of appetizers, mains, several wines, and cocktails — all were delicious. I will definitely be back!

2022-04-16Food was fantastic as always - got the Arancini special and the Fusili pasta which were both great, burrata is standard solidService was a little funky (got given the wrong things and then charged for other tables food as well by accident)

2022-07-29Had a great time here during Restaurant Week. We went with a group of 6 of us. The place is a very awesome looking place, the food was delicious, and the staff was great. Our waiter was great as he helped us through the menu. I really respected that when we asked for a bottle of wine, he asked what we liked, what we were thinking for dinner, etc and DIDNT pick the most expensive bottle. We also wanted to add a pizza from the regular menu as an appetizer, and he let us know that what we were ordering was plenty and we probably didnt need more food, which I greatly respected.

They really made us feel super welcomed and taken care of.The restaurant has a great vibe, perfect for dates. The food was reallyyyy good!! 2021-08-08We booked at this place via recommendation of opentable.com and this place truly exceeded our expectations. We arrived slightly early for our dinner and decided to have some cocktails at the bar. Yes, you read that right, bar seating is allowed again in NYC. I then have Toronto; gin-based cocktail and my partner had a spritz so fitting for mid-May weather. We were told by the host that our dinner table is ready, we started with complimentary home bread and olive oil followed by focaccia Parma; homemade mozzarella, prosciutto de Parma, tomato sauce, and rucola. It was delicious and the portion is perfect for 2 people. For our entree, I chose fettuccine con funghi e cream de tartufo or homemade fettuccine with wild mushrooms and black truffle sauce while my partner chose papardelle al ragu di agnello; homemade ribbon pasta with tomato braised lamb shank and pecorino Romano. Both dishes are freshly made and delicious it suited well with our choices of quartino of wine (size of 2 glasses serving). We then capped the night with Sicilian lemon tart to share. This place serves solid Italian dishes, we both enjoyed the efficient customer service, definitely a neighborhood gem.
