We were looking for some quality Indian food and decided to stop in for dinner. The dining room was quite busy, luckily there were still some tables available. The dining area was more narrow than I expected but very comfortable. We immediately received menus and water, the staff here are exceptionally fast and attentive. I also ordered a sprite, much to my surprise they served the soda in a can, although I did not check the price is was quite clear there would be no refills.Whenever I eat in an Indian restaurant, I prefer to order the same entree each time, Chicken Tikka Masala. So I stuck with my main entree and added the Garlic Naan to go along with it.When the entree arrived I noticed the masala sauce appeared to be a bit darker in color than I was used to. After the fist bite I realized this masala sauce had a very rich flavor, it was exceptional. The chicken was cooked and seasoned perfectly. I found this to be one of the best tikka masala entrees I have ever had. The garlic naan was not under-cooked and provided for a slight crisp to the bread, it was excellent. After dinner we were offered a desert which consisted of frozen orange cremes, still in the orange peel. This was wonderfully refreshing and a very nice surprise, a perfect way to end the dinner. The price point for the quality and quantity of food is excellent! The customer service is excellent as well, a very personable and friendly restaurant.Cheers!
We really enjoyed this place, you could tell it was family owned by the atmosphere and the food was absolutely delicious. The proprietor was very nice, they noticed that we were low on rice and insisted on bringing us more, which we really appreciated. The portions were generous, but because the food was so good we managed to finish everything! I had the paneer mahakni. We went there at like 4:30 p.m. for a late lunch and we were really pleased that they were open, because other places in the area were not open for dinner until 5:00 or 6:00. I would definitely recommend. Plenty of vegetarian options as well.
The food was amazing. We were in town looking for some really good Indian food, and we werent disappointed. The chicken tikka masala is some of the best I have ever tasted, and their naan was fluffy and warm. The prices were amazing for NYC, and there were no hidden fees (like some of the other Indian places in the area warn about on google). We were really happy with our choice and would definitely come back if we get the chance
The food was okay but the service was really poor. To be fair, our waitress mentioned she was new and apologized in advanced, but she ended up spilling water on me, neglected to take our order for a long time, and after we were served never came back to fill our water or check up on us. We were sitting near the entrance so it was even more difficult to get their attention.
Ordered the mulligatawny soup and the lamb korma. They served the soup with salt and pepper shakers so I think they know the soup can be a little bland. But I added a dash of pepper and it was very tasty. The korma I asked for spicy, it indeed was but not so spicy to make eating difficult. It had great flavor, juicy chunks of lamb and well balanced. The rice served with it had peas which I was a bit dubious about but they provided a refreshing pop that helped cut through the spiciness, really helped the dish out.Overall, a very enjoyable meal.
Ordered online through Yelp app, super easy. Was ready right on time and the staff is very nice and welcoming. Its my third time and I am never disappointed- amazing food, great portions I only wish it was a bit cheaper but thats only because I know what the pricesare like in india and east Asia 😄Overall- highly recommended indian place, a bit hidden in the corner but worth stopping there for a meal!I got the deal that included naan, rice, souces, 2 large vegetarian samosas, entree and an appetizer and it was all SO delicious!
Okay so I was very excited to try this place, I havent had much luck with finding good Indian food in NYC. I got the Paneer Makhani and well... I was disappointed. It was so sweet. It smelled amazing and the color was beautiful but was very disappointed after the first bite. It was spicy and the naan was good but I just dont understand why it was so sweet :(
Made an order through seamless. after it was late for thirty minutes, tried to call the restaurant. no one picks up, except one time when someone picked up the receiver but didnt speak or respond. could hear background restaurant noises as their dine-in service was open. after it was late for 50 minutes and a runaround from seamless (though not really seamless fault) was finally able to cancel the order and get a refund. what a disappointing experience.
We went to New York for a trip and we had a lunch from this restaurant. Food was very good. We ordered mutton Biriyani and tandoori chicken, both was awesome and delicious. The manager was taking care of customer very friendly. All staff are good. We enjoyed the food in this restaurant.ThanksRafi
Best food ever! The staff was very friendly and went above and beyond to make sure the food was excellent. We had Chicken Biryani, Samosas, Tandoori Chicken, vegetable curry, Gulab Jamun! We ate at Bombay Grill twice and both times the food was excellent! Reena even gave us drinks on the house!! We will be back one day!
Amazing service! Appetizers were delicious!! Malai Kofta was a little too sweet for me but really enjoyed the garlic naans. We dined outside with my puppy, the waiter was super attentive to us and even brought out a little plastic bowl for my puppy to drink water from which was SUPER sweet! Thank you for a great evening!
Nice spot! Everything we ordered was really tasty, (samosa, garlic nan, mixed grill, lamb tikka masala, sag paneer). We sat inside; it was comfortable. They gave us a small sweet to end the meal, which we enjoyed. Overall, good local spot in western midtown. Will be back.
We had a wonderful moment in this restaurant. The atmosphere was cosy with candles and traditional music. The waitress was super friendly and always smiling, it was very pleasant! Food was tasty, authentic and came with a polished presentation. Moreover, we were offered a complimentary dessert on the house. I would definitely recommend this Indian food experience in the heart of NYC!
This place used to be great. We used to eat here every two weeks or so. But lately it ssems to have changed management or something. The chicken tikka masala that ny gf eats every time now has tough tasteless chicken, and the sauce is basically tomato soup, no spices of any kind. The chicken saag extra spicy i always order tastes ok, but is no longer extra spicy. its somewhat spicy at best, and the chicken is tough, not tender. But the worst bit was that it took 40 minutes for our main course to arrive the other day. Crazy. And we were the only customers.
Everything was good to very good. The broad menu, the food itself, the portions, prices, place, service, and the 9th Ave 40s-50s foodie heaven district location. Part of that is a given: if youre not at least good, despite the draw that the area is for the hungry on a moderate Manhattan restaurant budget, youre just not going to make it there. And I expect Bombay Grill House will be there for quite some time.Four stars instead of five only because, nothing was quite among the best of its kind Ive ever had - but remember I only had one meal for one person. So only a tiny sample of the menu, and I stand ready to be further impressed. If I return, Ill try to update this. Meantime a recommended choice for Indian in that district. Also has a bit of Nepalese character, which made for some interesting presentations and flavors.
Had a craving for Indian and randomly stumbled on this beautiful place. Awesome value lunch menu with any choice of curry, naan and rice. They also served some delicious Indian crisps and sauces. Excellent value for money for absolutely delicious food! Highly recommend!
I had a takeout from here. The service was quick, reasonably priced, efficient (all food ordered was received). In terms of taste: Lamb Tikka Masala - this was AMAZING (the reason why I am giving a 5/5 score overall), score 5/5! Highly recommend you to try this! Gulab Jamun for dessert, score 5/5, was very good too! Now the not so good ones: Vegetable Samosas - they were crispy but missed seasoning/spices, score 3/5. Saag Paneer - it was alright, but still missing a kick, the paneer cheese could have been shallow-fried to get crispy, so score 3/5. Lachha Paratha, I thought the bread wasnt crispy enough, I couldnt see the layers of the folding, or feel the butter taste, so score 3/5. The mango lassi was far too rich, score 2/5.
Small, but pleasant restaurant. Attentive staff. Excellent Indian food without reservation. Some of the best vegetable samosas Ive had in a long time. Two for what I usually pay for one. Chicken vindaloo was cooked nicely. I asked for spicy. At first I thought it was not spicy enough, as stated by other reviewers, but the spice grew with each bite. Turns out spicy can be subtle and delicious or overpowering, as I am more accustomed. Final conclusion: for the price its five stars.
A gem here in Hell’s Kitchen. Small, comfortable, and not to loud. Good place to go to go if you want to able to have a conversation. The staff is humble yet the pride they take in what they’re serving shows. The food is delicious and as good as any of those spots if not better than East Village.
Visited this place in November 2019.One of the best Experiences received in NYC. The Manager and Staff are friendly and did provide fabulous service. It was my girlfriend’s birthday and we visited Bombay Grill house, the staff found that it was my gf’s bday and they gave us complimentary cake and orange Kulfi (something new and delicious)Would definitely come back to this restaurant in our next visit to NYC.
After 3 nights of crowds and waiting we wanted a cozy place without a long wait. We wanted Indian and this place was close by. We were seated immediately and the food was so good. We had the chicken tikka appetizer and the chicken tikka masala entree. After we had already finished eating and paid, our server brought out a complimentary dessert. I definitely recommend this place and wish we had it in Tucson.
I live around the corner and have been meaning to try this place. My mother and I went today and while we were impressed with the beautiful ambiance and interior, the food left a lot to be desired. The tandoori combo was some of the most dry lamb, salmon, and chicken I’ve ever had. The chicken tikka masala was decent, however the rice side was extremely bland and clumpy. After complaining to the server, she told us “sometimes that’s just how it is since it’s difficult to control the heat of the meats.” ....... get a better chef on the tandoor!Only reason I would ever think about returning is the fact that she said she’d be give me a voucher for 25% off my next meal. She also brought a complimentary rice pudding dessert which I didn’t care for, but it was a nice gesture. 2 stars, only because of the attempt to fix the issue, otherwise, 1.If you’re looking for an amazing Indian restaurant, I recommend The MasalaWala in the east village instead. No compromising necessary.
The service was friendly and the waiter knowledgeable about the menu. But I’ve had much better Indian food at other restaurants. The salmon curry was bland and Tasted fishy. We sent it back and ordered a dhal instead. The dhal was edible and I ate it because I was hungry, but it lacked flavor. The garlic naan tasted like I was eating raw garlic. The place was clean and ambiance was romantic. However the food did not meet my standards of flavor.
I work in the area and go here all the time. The food is so delicious and the manager is very friendly. They have a great lunch special where everything is half off. Ive probably tried half of the items on the menu and have enjoyed every one. My favorite is the Rogan Josh but you pretty much cant go wrong.
Took my niece out for a bite to eat and we found this spot on 9th Ave.I must admit I was a little nervous to try the place because it was pretty empty inside. However, I was immediately impressed by how friendly and welcoming the staff members were. The restaurant itself was fairly small and narrow but they utilized their space well. The decor was tasteful with a few eye catching pieces throughout. The prices were decent for The amount of food that you got and the food was delicious. I think the garlic naan we ordered was the best-perfect amount of garlic and fresh. I would definitely return in the future.
Friday evening my friend and I used a Groupon that I had purchased several weeks ago. Friday afternoon I had read a few very negative reviews about Bombay Grill House. Needless to say I was a bit uneasy about having dinner. The reviews addressed bad service, food and prices.I would now like to tell EVERYONE that this was absolutely the BEST Indian food I have ever had and the service was beyond excellent; we actually had 3 servers at our table. The concern of the servers was that we were comfortable and that we enjoyed our meal. The ambiance of the restaurant was also very comforting. We are both looking forward to having another enjoyable meal, Groupon or not.
Good food!!! But the Air-condition in the restaurant was not working so it was really hot!!! We were sweating literally!!! Expect them to at least inform the guests coming in. Sic. The guy Gopal kept arguing with me and my family!!! Man this is totally unacceptable after a 40 dollar business. This guy kept saying I don’t care about your reviews. If you give me 1 bad review I will have 100 other people giving me good reviews. Kept arguing and did not want to even have a conversation!!! Really a very bad experience!!!
Excellent Indian restaurant on 9th avenue of New York. Menu is presented with pictures and spices can be cooked to meet your taste. The choice is quite wide. Price is reasonable.Service is fast and friendly. The room has fine Indian pictures and accepts roughly 40 people. They provide good Wi-Fi Internet access.I would come again if I had enough time !
The staff was very friendly and the food came within a reasonable amount of time. Although my friends channa massala was very good, my chicken korma was a little blander than Im used to at other Indian restuarants and when I make it at home. The prices seemed typical of what I expect for Indian food.
We had dinner late in the night at this place and we loved the experience. The service was way beyond amazing. All the servers and the manager attended to our table several times. We ordered Paneer Makhni and Chicken Chettinad, and purposely asked them to make it spicy as per google reviews claiming that the food tends to be underseasoned. It was a very good decision and i would suggest same to everyone. Love the choice of music in the background. All in all it was a 5 on 5 experience for us.
I knew the moment we walked into this place it was going to be great. The space was so clean and had a fresh look to it. The waitress Lidia and owner Gopal were so quick to seat us and very hospital. When i sat down and opened up the menu, I was expecting at least 25$ entreesbut to my surprise the average was around 12-13$ My friend who I was taking out for dinner said she didnt like curry, but Bombay Grill House changed her mind very quickly! 5 stars, Ill be recommending all my friends to come here!P.S. I had a lovely conversation with Gopal and found out that he took over management 10 months ago. Anybody who has been to this place in the past should definitely consider coming again, you wont regret it!
Excellent value! Reasonable/affordable prices. Lamb was delicious. Perfect amount of spices. Helped me overcome a lingering head/sinus cold. Thank you for hosting our #100DayProject 2019 NYC meetup! They took reservations easily and offered superior service and accommodations for our group, given the space. Thank you
Great Indian food at a reasonable price (if you take the Lunch or Dinner deals). Ordered a Chicken Tikka kebab and a Samosa, which were both great (although the potions were a bit on the smaller side) and came with an awesome Nan.The Restaurant has a relatively small seating area.
Very mixed review here. The food was great and while friendly, the servers seemed to be in a hurry to get us out of there is seems. Maybe it was because we used an evil Groupon, but I was more than happy to buy a couple more beers and hang out with my date. We were asked 7 (yes 7) times if we were ready to order. When it came time to get the check, however, they were not as eager. So overall it was an interesting experience. The food was very good, however, the naan and vindaloo were awesome. Just wish the service was more consistent and not as pushy is all.Havent ever had it delivered, may consider that in the future since the food was so good.
We had dinner here tonight warmly greeted by the manager Gopal. The food was excellent. We ordered soup, bhendi masala and goat curry with kulcha . All was very tasty, spice level just as order. The quantity was so much we brought some home to savor it tomorrow. Great experience for a big city like New York City. Want find this in our Ohio. We recommend this restaurant for everybody to try. We will definitely visit it again when we come back to NYC.
My family and I were looking for ethnic food to eat and happened to walk by Bombay Grill House. We went inside and were treated with excellent service and outstanding food. They doubled our samosa order on the house, and brought us complimentary rice pudding for dessert. The chana masala was sublime, and the naan was amazing eaten straight or dipped in the meal. If we lived in NYC, we’d be getting takeout from here every week. Highly recommend.
I read the 1-star review about the guy arguing and no A.C.I called earlier today to ask if the AC is working and he said yes, but if you have to read reviews then don’t bother to come here.Initially I thought it was a bit rude, a little too “Soup Nazi” for me but my husband said let’s go there because it means the Owner is confident that his food speaks for itself. And Yes, it did! Full marks for flavor and freshness and Tandoori tenderness!Order the crispy melongene appetizer, you’ll love it! Delicious aloo paratha too.Yes, he can be heard quarreling with his staff and constantly instructing them.We laughed! He’s a perfectionist and he wants things done the right way. This restaurant just moved up in our list of “places to eat in NYC” when taste matters more than ambience and trendy crowds. My parents who are in their 80’s enjoyed it and so did our 8-yr old son who is a very picky eater.
Great food- small place - less quantity.Small place to sit around. The door is so hard to open, I gotta use my 2 hands to push within. There is a table right behind door, which makes un comfortable entrance and exit.We couldnt find easily it on street .And usually serves less quantity of food, luckily I was not too hungry.
The food was overall 3.5/5My Papdi chat was below par. The entree had too much oil in it with the meat too chewy and the Garlic naan did not have much garlic. The Service was bad 1/5The service gets a 1, because they talked with a smile. But, the food took forever(30+ mins) to come, on checking with them how much time it will take, they took offense. When asked to box my food, I had to ask 5 times. This while the host was chit-chatting with others and clearing off tables for people who finished after me. The usual courteous conversations which were extended to others didnt seem to happen with me. And to top it all off, when I gave a low tip, the owner told me my attitude was bad. I do think they are severly under-staffed and can do better by recruiting more servers. The hosts do care, I could see that with other tables, but somehow I had a really bad experience with them.Advice - The food is optimized for western audience, so if you are from the Indian subcontinent, you might want to give precise instruction of the spice level and oil.Have lots of patience since the business does not have enough people, so go here for extended dates.Avoid Lamb dishes, as the meat can be chewy.
Pretty much all the food delivered was under seasoned, which meant the savoury foods had too little salt and the sweet foods had too little sugar. The lamb dishes we ordered were tough, and chewy. It was also apparent that the chicken tikka masala we ordered was actually butter chicken. Plus, the breads were dry. I could go on with several more issues with the food, but the main thing was that the food was frustratingly bad (we really wanted this food to be good since we were especially hungry), and the overall experience was a major disappointment to the extent that I would say that either the restaurant needs significant improvement, or needs to make room for its other possible competitors.
Ordered the Konkan Fish Curry, Garlic Naan, and Cheese Naan.Food:The fish curry was delicious, not too spicy, and very flavorful. Went really well with the rice they gave, and it had five pieces of well cooked salmon in it. The garlic naan had actual pieces of garlic in it, and was really flavorful and delicious. The cheese naan was really good too, but I enjoyed the garlic naan more due to personal taste preferences.Service:The waiter was really nice and gave our group great suggestions. He checked in every now and then to see whether we enjoyed our food, and the other waitresses kept our water glasses filled.Price:Fair prices, maybe a tiny bit pricey. Naan was $4 each for four quarters, and the salmon was $17.Overall a great experience, and would come again.
The dishes they had were great. The service was superb and the staff polite. They did not have any masala chai (Indian milk tea) though which was a disappointment. The vegetarian options were limited in number but the taste was more on the above average side. The quantity was impressive. The lacha paranthas were nice.I hate to say this, but it seemed more of an Indian place tuned for American tastebuds and preferences.
Horrible experience. We ordered food, everything was sweet flavor. Dal, bhindi, meat and all. Soup was unsalted. When I asked why food was sweet, he said because you said to make it mild. It made me so pissed off. When I asked for bill, he bought wrong bill belonged to somebody else.
Horrible attitude from owner or manager disgusting attitude towards customers!! ! Will Never recommended or go there !!! He can fool non Indians who dont know much about Indian food but not Indians . Names on menu dont match the food at all!!Paneer tikka Marsala is not even put in the tandoori over! !!Just fooling his customers.
I have ordered the food delivery from this place. The food was 2 hours after the order time and then when it finally arrived they delivered the wrong food. When I called them 1.5 hours after the order and told that my food didnt arrive yet, they told me on the phone that the delivery guy is almost here without even asking who Im. I asked how can they say that if the dont even know who they are talking to. Then the lady on the phone told me ok, whats your order id, Ill check. Terrible service...
These people are very shady. I wanted to buy a $29 Groupon worth $93.50 but they said you can only getOne appetizerTwo entreesNaan, not including assorted breadsTwo Indian beersThat doesnt add up to $93.50. So, I called them and they said If this doesnt work out for you, then dont buy it. So, it is pretty obvious they are rude. You should not go. Trust me.
Worst NYC restaurant- ever!!!! Rude and surly owner. He should be ashamed for calling this an Indian restaurant.Ordered a chicken dish and was served stale and smelly meat that was devoid of any taste.Even street food is million times better than that S@#t.There is a even a Groupon out there to attract unsuspecting customers.AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

2021-11-07I was pleasantly surprised by this place in the heart of the Hell’s Kitchen restaurant area on 9th avenue. The food was good. Yummy for sure. The service was friendly and very helpful! You have to check them out if you are craving Indian cuisine! I highly recommend this restaurant for sure.

2022-06-10We got there at 9:00pm without booking, and we asked are you open? And they say *yeah yeah the restaurant was Empty and the food came at 9:20pm.SERVICE.Really disappointed.. they was rushing us to much.. we was still eating the starter and they ask us if its okay to have the main course because the kitchen have to close, we say its fine.. then they open all the light.. and we just start to eat the main... Then they start to take off some plate from the table without even ask us if we have finish or not .. and he took one plate that I still wanted to eat, I didnt even realize that he took it, my partner told me.. then he give to us the bill to pay without even ask if we want the bill, then he came with the card machine and we was still eating.. i dont think so that this is a nice service. Never again.FOODThe onion bhaji was ok, my girlfriend ordered pakora as a starter, for sure wasnt a pakora .. then they come with my chicken biryani and was bland.. half of the rice was white.. they didnt mixet properly and the taste was bland .. the panea masala of my partner was really nice.. and the Nan... The worse cheese Nan I ever had in my life.. the cheese wasnt melted and actually was grated on it .. and was like 5 little pieces inside one Nan... Really disappointed of this restaurant.

2022-05-15If there was negative rating, I would give that. The food was so bad. The rotis and naan were very hard. Being an Indian and Inspite having good tolerance to spice level, I could not eat even a spoon of sabzi. It was so spicy, I wish I had no taste buds. I m sorry but, would never recommend this place…

2021-09-30Our first taste of Bombay Grill gave us a mildly spicy taste of a wonderful mix of vegetables & chicken over rice complimented with a side of chick peas & flat bread.

2021-09-10The best Indian cuisine we have found in NY state, and certainly underpriced! ... The setup was super cute too, and the environment/music so relaxing ... We loved it and will absolutely be back again. The service, checked on us frequently and silently snuck in to refill our drinks before half done ... Offered rice refills, etc.Special note: you cant go wrong with the Mixed Vegetable Curry (comes with rice and bread) ... Paired with a Ginger Ale ... Omg ... To die for!!

2022-06-17Lovely staff, delicious food thats very reasonably priced. The only issue I had was the long wait from ordering to getting the food. Took about 25 minutes before our plates were brought to the table. Though a long wait it was hot and the chicken was not juicy.

2022-06-10The food was amazing and very filling. The butter chicken and the naan was just amazing. The service was questionable and it seemed like they didnt want to give us the check until we finished our food. Food was great, service was interesting.

2022-04-14Great service and great food. the appetizer plates were huge, very tasty and reasonably priced. they definitely know how to marinate chicken and lamb. [delicious]. i would like to see the saag panir offered as an appetizer plate so that i could use it as a dipping garnish with the naan. i would definitely go there again.
