Bonnie Castle Resort & Marina in Alexandria Bay

The hotel is deceiving. On the website it looks great. The outside looks like a dingy old building rooms need updating dark dirty hallways I wish I knew this before I booked . The hotel across street river edge looks beautiful please spend extra money and go there. Also highly recommend Clayton tours of thousand Island and eat at O brians hope this helps !
My girlfriend and I stayed at the Bonnie Castle for an event. Upon arriving we were disappointed by the run down look of the resort. It’s hardly a “resort” and more of a motor lodge. Our room:While big, the room was not* cleaned properly; dirty hardwood floors, dirty bedsheets, grime on the mirrors, rusted metal lamps, bugs in common areas, falling curtains, and a missing TV remote (which we later found underneath the fitted sheet of the bed). The mattress itself was rock hard and in desperate need of replacing. Judging by the design of it, the mattress looks to be from the late 1990s, like much of the rest of the room. The room itself was not like anything displayed on their website. All beige, with no aesthetics (pictures, area rug, etc). The bathroom:It was about the same as the rest of the room: large, but out of date. We stayed in a jacuzzi room, but didn’t trust the cleanliness of the tub, so we never used it. The silicone in the shower was moldy and looked as if it had not been resealed in about 10 years. The shower had no hot water for over 5 minutes and I used an old college trick of running the faucet to get some* hot water. Some of the lights in the bathroom did not work which added to the “Bates Motel” vibe.We spent $265 for one night to stay at the Bonnie Castle because it was dog friendly, but the room we stayed in was definitely not worth the price, even if it was an “upcharge” to have a dog stay with us.Save your money and go elsewhere!
Inside rooms DO Not look like the pictures online. Hotel is very very old and needs help badly. Its 2 buildings and most rooms are across the parking lot, not near the river and not having views of the castle. Staff is super friendly, but for the price we will not be coming back.
The hotel did not inform us that there was going to be a kids birthday party , things got loud and dangerous quickly ( unsupervised kids running screaming doing cannonballs splashing everything the rules say not to do ) not to mention the hill billies walking around the pool area with there nasty winter work boots carrying open cans of beer, as the night approached things got soo loud in the pool area we could not even hear the tv finally the staff shut the pool down, then all the drunk adults started fighting in the hallway the office was called several times we finally made it to bed around 12 am , woke up the next morning to the pool area still covered with cake and crumbs on the table and a few minutes after 9 am the birthday party resumed !! We checked out early and left. This place is a joke they were fully aware of what was going on I even told them that’s why I was checking out early and sent a follow up letter by mail directly to owner/ operator NO RESPONSE ! Shame on these people ! Not to mention the rooms look nothing like the pictures and the carpet smells like a liter box ! Don’t WASTE YOUR MONEY !!
Update after our stay:First the positive (which there is a lot): The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Awesome job with training and getting top notch workers. The location is second to none. We beautiful views of Bonnie Castle and the Saint Lawrence River from the room and from the pool and deck area. You are right near all of the restaurants and attractions that the village of Alexandria Bay has to offer from river cruises to a variety of excellent restaurants and gift shops as well as bars and nightlife for those interested. The linens and the room were clean, fresh, and of nice quality. The lighting in the room appears to have been replaced somewhat recently providing ample places to charge all of your electronics and was a nice update to the room. The pool area and deck were nice. We enjoyed the pool and spa quite a bit during our stay. The negative:As some have stated, the mattresses are not very comfortable and are overly firm. Possibly mattress pads on top of them for added comfort without the cost of fully replacing?Maintenance issues: there were a few minor maintenance issues in our room which did not affect our experience or the quality of our stay but may appear unsightly and may he what gives the guests the perception of it being dirty even though in my experience it was not dirty at all. In the jacuzzi suite we stayed in, there were some kissing knobs on the jacuzzi itself which didnt impact the use of it but just looked unsightly. The same goes for all of the controls, I think it might benefit from updating the knobs and labels just to give it a nicer and more guest friendly appearance (even though everything worked and functioned properly). Also there were a number of chips on the perimeter of the glass of the mirrors in the bathroom which could be covered by small wooden trim work around them which would make it look a lot nicer. The vanity in the bathroom would look much nicer with a quick coat of paint and possibly updated hardware without needing the expense of replacing it.The exterior of the court yard could use a good power washing to remove dirt, debris, and cobwebs (in fairness we stayed very early in the season and this might be something that just hasnt been addressed for the year yet and didnt impact our stay at all but may help with some of the perception issues by some of the guests that are commenting on the place being dirty.Smoking area: as non-smokers, we did not really like the designated smoking area in the courtyard being in a place that we had to walk through to get to our room. There were also several cigarette butts on the ground around the smoking area which should be cleaned up. It was also unpleasant having several people smoking directly under the balcony of our non-smoking room which made us not want to have the balcony door open or enjoy the beautiful view from the balcony without having to smell cigarette smoke. Maybe this could be moved to a different area on the property? Many people have commented on the furniture being older and I generally found the furniture totally acceptable and of good quality even if it was a bit older. The one exception I would suggest replacing the chairs at the table in the room with something a little newer and modern as I think it would make the whole room look a lot nicer and would be a fairly inexpensive update without having to replace everything in the room. There is peeling paint in the pool area on the ceiling of the pool area which should be addressed. Like most of other things I have commented on, it doesnt really affect the guest experience but it does affect the perception of the quality and cleanliness of the property.Overall, we had a great time and I would recommend this property to anyone. We look forward to possibly staying again as the season ramps up a little more. Hopefully you dont find my review critical as I am just trying to give some small fixes.
DO NOT STAY THERE!!!!!!! I have traveled all over the united states and have stayed in so many hotels I couldnt count. I have never left a bad review even if the hotel was not good but this time i just couldnt hold back. I payed 377 dollars for 1 night at this place. I got one of the riverside rooms with hot tub and to be honest I have never been more disgusted with a hotel. The ceiling was filthy, The sheets looked like they were never changed and there was mold all over the bathroom. I talked to the front desk and this is their response. Oh well sorry I asked for my money back and they told me that wasnt happening and all they could give me was a 10 percent discount. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!! I will be filing a complaint with multiple agencies. I work hard for my money and these people just rob you blind.
I would be embarrassed to be the owner of this place that is not even close to a resort. The 1 star is for the view, which is clearly why we were charged what we were. Otherwise, this would be like a $59.99 (if even) special motel you see along side some random back road. The room is circa 1970 except for the floor. Move a chair, and you get not only dust bunnies, but some melted candy or something. So, clearly, cleaning is lacking. TV MIGHT be a 28 and half the time poor signal pops up. Satellite. There was a jacuzzi in the bathroom. I wouldnt even venture into that and the space between the jacuzzi and the shower was gross .. possibly even moldy. If they do nothing else in the bathroom, they should at least provide fresh smelling towels. I am not so sure the ones we got were not previously used .. seeing how there was a long black hair on one (and I am blonde). Same such hair on the bed. Heres the kicker .. at checkout, the woman asked me how was everything? My response was no comment and all she said was you are all set, thank you. Horrible attempt at customer recovery. I would never stay here again and I would certainly not recommend it.
I was never so disappointed in my whole life when I walked into the room. I cried. I had planned a romantic getaway for my husband and myself. We had to park and walk through the building back out through the courtyard and up the stairs before we could get to our room. The stairways were dirty when we open the door to the room it really smelled very musty. I didnt even know where to begin. The refrigerator was dirty the top of the counter was sticky. I couldnt even think of putting my clothes in the drawers of the dresser. There were no rugs, just bare floors. The chair was soiled and the bed was very Lumpy. I dont even know how they could consider this a resort. It was pretty nasty. And the balcony was probably if anything two feet wide with two old chairs out. The balcony door was filthy. Never even sat out to look at the view as it was so disgusting out there. For the price I paid it was unbelievable to me it was highway robbery that they charged us almost $600 for two nights. I had to go to the front desk to get shampoo soap towels washcloths.
I stayed at the hotel for two nights. First night we where literally the only guests in the hotel and at the bar. Maintenance was painting the pool so we couldn’t use that ether. We paid $230 for a two night stay. Days latter my credit card and extra $138 after paying cash at checkout. Was told it that was a non refundable deposit after I called back and asked what the charge was for. I wouldn’t pay over $100 a night to stay and actually considering leaving the second night for a better and cleaner hotel that had something to offer. I mean the weight room had three Mitch matched pieces of cardio equipment from what looked like someone’s house. A flat bench and no dumbells. Looking back I should have.
I stayed at one of the river-front suites with a jacuzzi. The only problem with the room was that it would take a few minutes before we would get hot water (it takes a while to reach that side of the building). Other than that, the room was very clean and spacious. The balcony was small, but enough space for two people to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful views of the water. The hotel is a few minutes away from the center of the town by foot, which affords access to the touristy activities (shopping for souvenirs, restaurants) and it is also close to Uncle Tom’s cruises, which are great for exploring the river and reaching the nearby Boltd Castle. There is both an outdoor pool and an indoor kiddie pool on site.
Rooms are definitely dated. The staff were all very pleasant and provided excellent service at the hotel. The hotel itself needs work. We went to the pool and the ceiling paint was falling down all over. That area is in a desperate need of updating. We walked out on the porch to look at the spectacular views and my wife cut the edge of her foot on a nail that was sticking up through the boards. There were a few dozen that needed to be hammered back down. You can tell theres a huge lack of maintenance. We decided to go to the restaurant before this for dinner and the lovely hostess sat us at a table down near the front where we asked, as to have a nice view. Which it was. We sat there for 20 plus minutes with no service. We watched waitress come and go to surrounding tables but did not even look at us to see if we needed anything. I actually for the first time in my life stood up and walked out. We will be going back to Alexandria bay but definitely will be looking at other hotels in the area that are not so dated and even cheaper.
This hotel has been here a long time. Not sure how long, you can look it up. Its a multimillion dollar property based on location with a $75 a night hotel charging $200+ a night. If you book thinking you may get a view of the river, think again. Ugly views of the parking lot or the back of an old looking marina. The restaurant looks beatiful but we did not eat here. We only saw 1 couple eating in a lavish room that probably seated 200+. The hotel is ok for one night if you cant find something else but I think any of the area motels are about the same quality for less price. Employees are nice. I will not book again.
Our room was great exactly what we needed. Kimberly was amazing at helping us get a last minute room after our first hotel fell through. She even helped us pick some local eatery for our dinner. They have a great restaurant inside the resort that has a beautiful view of the water. We came early and had the dining room to ourselves for a few minutes to take a few pictures it was great!
Do not waste your money!!! For the amount of money that you pay to stay in these ridiculously dated rooms is deplorable. It does not look like they have updated this hotel since the 1970s! They still use hard keys for the doors. The amenities are extremely minimal at best. You’re lucky you’ll get coffee in the lobby. An absolute disappointment and rip off!
The reason i rated this location 1 star was because of the beautiful scenery. Other than that, it was a pain to get checked in, and even after paying cash they held 200 dollars on a card which was on file in order to check in. The worker, Jodi was trying her best to help with the issue; however the general manager was hardly educated in customer service and would not work with us regarding the issue on the card which is SUCH an inconvenience. The rooms are hardly worth their price. The only enjoyable part that it was right on the water, however everything is on the water at 1000 islands. Very disappointed honestly. Not only did we NOT get our moneys worth, the authorization wont subside for another 2 months; so they basically took 460 for 1 night. Would not recommend.
Certainly not the best, but not the worst. We just did a quick overnight trip so one night was enough for us. I will say, the room for the most part was tidy, the bed sheets and linens were very clean and the jacuzzi tub worked well. However, this place was so dated it made our room look very run down, which is why we won’t be returning. The room itself needs a good scrub, the doors and tile were worn out and beat up. Ours was also labeled as a “riveview room” but it overlooked the parking lot which I thought was kind of odd. Upon arrival we got a note that there was a gnat issue, which did not bother us, you cannot control nature. However, up towards the ceiling and in the big window there were dead bugs just about everywhere. The small sink in the actual hotel room clogged every time it was turned on and for some weird reason the coffee maker started smoking after trying to use it.Another odd thing was when we first arrived, out in the courtyard to overlook the water view there was a pair of men’s undergarments just sitting in the grass. When we first walked by housekeeping was cleaning rooms so I was surprised they didn’t pick it up then and there. Came back for a late night look at the water, still there. When we checked out the next morning they were finally gone.Just like the rooms, the hotel grounds itself could use a little TLC. Stairway was dirty, plants over grown and the back deck was just peeled paint that looks like it hasn’t been touched in years.Overall I appreciate the cleanliness of the beds since that’s all we are in the room for. The location was great, about a 10 minute walk to the main drag. However next time we will be staying somewhere else.
Bobby Sue was very detailed about the specifics about weddings as a positive. Its our special day and to be told that we may not get the room we want for wedding if someone out bids our guest amount is quite disgusting. That tells me they dont care about our special day. Granted it is a resort area I grew up in the north country. I know its not Bobby Sue that makes the rules but if your planning a wedding be ready to have the carrot dangled in your face of a nice room, then be told if someone out bids your guest list be put in a subpar room at a moments notice and having to pay for the room your not getting. The owner needs to clearly evaluate whats important and having peace of mind of what your getting in my book is more important than being disappointed on your wedding day. Especially if your investing 20000 for a wedding. My advice is the room is nice but dont waste your time with this place. The main reason is they will sell you out to the highest bidder and possibly ruin your wedding date on a moments notice.
The only beautiful thing about this place is the proximity to the water and beautiful outdoor scenery. However, the resort needs major updating. We wanted a Riverview suite but somehow the reservation ended up being the indoor pool view suite with jacuzzi and it was disappointing. Had to keep curtains close all the time for privacy. Walls are so thin we can hear the conversation from the room next door to us. Carpets and chairs were dingy. Water temperature in the shower was either too hot or too cold, no in between. Bathroom sink doesnt drain properly. The room had an old musty smell. Food at restaurant was not great either. Waitresses were very kind and friendly but we ended up a very long time for our meal.
Let me start with the rain shower in the bathroom at 10:00 at night. Luckily the leak was directly above the so called hot tub so it did not flood our room. Looking at the ceiling tile I could tell this was not the first time and probably not the last either. The TV reception was great for the 1960’s with grainy picture on many of the channels and no HD. Paint was pealing from some of the molding. The window could not be opened because the crank handle was missing. The furniture was dated and worn. The bed was ok but the pillows as described by my wife were nice planks. I was looking forward to at least a nice shower in the morning, what was I thinking, no hot water, no warm water. The view was nice as we did pay extra to have a river view. Just a lovely stay.
This place is VERY dated. Mold on tiles in shower, ran out of hot water, balcony door did not lock and walls are paper thin. We could hear entire conversations of our neighbors. Upon check in the staff said we owed and additional $46.00 when we had paid ahead of time in full. The one good thing is the bed was comfortable.
Positive: Location and WiFi were good Negative: Cleanliness of the room was poor. There were bugs that bit me on the chairs that have clearly not been cleaned. There were spiders in our room and balcony and spiderwebs everywhere. Would not recommend unless really desperate. Disappointed.
Do not stay here - I had booked the resort for 4 nights , 2 double beds with jacuzzi for 890$. Room 235. First of all room was not ready for check in at 3pm. We drove all they way from NJ for abt 5 hrs. only to find out room was not ready and we had to wait another hour. They said they will call us when its ready, but no one called. We waited outside in our car. I had to go back in the office at 4pm and then they gave me the keys. Anyways, I ended up checking out a day early. We could not continue our stay due to unhealthy conditions of the room. Bathroom was gross, stains on toilet, unable to start jacuzzi due to missing knob, moldy, I had to call maintenance , spiders and bugs in the room, no coffee table, stains on the chairs, strange smell in the room , no cleaning services once you check in due to Covid, you have to ask for fresh towels and supplies everyday, change the sheets yourself, they wont give you fresh sheets until you put old ones out. Room carpet was filthy, you would not want to step on it barefoot. The only good thing about this hotel is the location and the lake side deck. I am sure there are better cheaper options. Nothing like the pictures posted on the hotel website.
Ladies at the front desk that booked us and did our check out this past weekend were amazing!!! (They are the only reason I am giving this review a 2 star). My thing is this...if you are going to charge almost $300 for a nights stay (less than 24 hours with a check-in of 3pm and check-out of 11am) there should be some kind of perk. We got into our room and I was very disappointed. If you are getting $300 a day per person/couple then you can afford to do some remodeling/updates. The jacuzzi tub was very small, the toilet you had to hold the handle down to make the T.P. go down, the comforters were not good for someone who gets cold easily during the night, the T.V. was from the 1950s and the outside of the building could use a lift and a fresh coat of paint. The amount you pay is not even worth the stay. A meal isnt even included in the price. Next time I will be going back to 1000 Islands Marina.
Avoid if you can. We chose to stay here because their website photos made the rooms look slightly more updated than the Riveredge. This is absolutely not true. Depending on the room you get, you may have carpet or you may not. The beds are not comfortable. Their bathrooms are very out of date and disgusting. If you have any issues, they will take care of it (kind of), but they will not apologize or compensate for anything. Best of luck here! We wont be back.
On the website, I signed up for a river view room, for our 12 anniversary, and when we got there, I got an indoor pool view. We couldnt even open the room windows because everyone in the pool woud see our room. When we call to get our room changed the young lady said that it was sold out. June 4-6th, sold out? There were only 4 cars on the parking lot. The food was ok, we ate at the restaurant, and they had live music, which was nice. The bed made noise every time one would move from one side to the other. The hot water would take a long time to appear. The room smell was a little musty. And we paid $175 per night, when it was really about $68 per night. I did love the parking spot. Really close, and empty. I would recommend it, only, if you just want to sleep close to the water and be able to do things close to the river.
Guys! We paid 200 a night for a room. We couldn’t check in until 7:30 because “we’re short staffed due to Covid.” THEN we get to our room at 8:00 and there’s no hot water! We call the desk and she says “ the exterminator was here today and didn’t turn the hot water back in to all the rooms, I’ll have them turn it on and it’s going to be a while.” Two hours later we could take a hot shower. Mention this at check out and that woman says “I know nothing about an exterminator but here’s 25% off your bill.”I’m sorry!!! That is not how you run a hotel !!!!!PS - the rooms are stuck in 1980!!!!
Room was clean but very outdated and extremely overpriced for what it is. Upon waking up and showering the first morning there was water coming down through the ceiling from the room above while their shower was running. We didnt have time to complain as we had an early morning softball tournament to get our daughter to. Upon returning that night to clean up before going out to eat the toilet had leaked around the base in our room and the floor was soaked. We stopped at the front desk and they apologized but could offer no other room as they were fully booked. Upon check out we told them again of the issues and they said they could not do anything about it as we didnt complain when we arrived... NOTHING was wrong other than the outdated decor/furnishings when we checked in.Were we supposed to be psychic and see that their plumbing had multiple issues?Their plumbing and customer service are both MAJOR failures!
All I can say is that it is Dead and dying. It may have been nice many years ago but it is not now. I would say it is the quality of a low class roadside hotel. In mid July only the small bar at the point was open so no resort at all. The main building was closed also so the room was in the small strip in the back. Room was so damp I had to dry my PJs. Altogether a big disappointment. Pictures in ad are not reality.
By far the most overpriced hotel Ive ever stayed in. booked 2 rooms for 2 nights well over $1000 these rooms were supposed to be wheelchair accessible. had no railing around the toilet, the shower was not role in so one person couldnt shower. the indoor pool was not wheel chair accessible at all (no matter what way you go, there is at least 1, 10 step) Imagine lifting a 370lb wheelchair down a 10 in step. (yep had to do that so this man could enjoy at least 1 thing he paid for) .... and then back up it again to get him out. only one parking spot that is lift van accessible (that was always occupied) the bathroom in one of the rooms had paint peeling off the door and wall. For the rate you would think they could paint the wall and door. On top of all that there was no breakfast provided. $1000 for 2 nights and they cant sit out some bagels, cereal and juice?
As soon as we walked in we could tell the bed skirt was dirty and never changed!! The tv barely had any reception, it was not clear at all!! They sent the maintenance guy would said sorry thats the best you will get, they wont pay for a booster. I would not recommend this place at all.
The rooms are really dated and dont look like the pictures online. The restaurants arent opened during the week and the overall quality of the property is poor due to ownership who is obviously not caring enough to fix small things like light bulbs etc. The service at the hotel and the hotel bar was terrible and were rude. Breakfast was supposed to be included with the stay and they said they cant do Breakfast during the summer due to staff shortages(pay people more and you wont have a shortage). I will go back to alex bay but we will stay somewhere else. This hotel is basically the hotel from the movie hot tub time machine at the beginning of the movie.
Definitely would not stay there again, the room looked extremely dated and smelled awful. I paid almost 600$ for 2 nights and it should never cost that much, even on a 4th of July weekend. I asked for a toothbrush from the front desk and I was told I need to pay 2.50$ to get it. thats disrespectful considering how much the rooms cost and even cheaper hotels offer it for free. save your money and stay away from this dump.
Extremely outdated and false advertisement. On the website it clearly shows exterior views from the other two hotels near by.. the halls felt like you were walking into the shinning and my “Marina Views” consisted of a rusty old tin roof enclosing large parties of people tailgating by their boats all night long. This place is FAR from a resort. All that being put aside, the hotel staff was very accommodating and worked 24/7. They are the only ones that deserve a 5 star.
Place is run down which is usually ok with me but had a vibe that someone gave up. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom was large but shower was tiny and plastic. There are two much better maintained places right next door. They also charged 4 dollars for maid tips.... Which we didnt get due to covid. Sincerely hope it gets to the very young ladies who will now have to change over 300 rooms to make up
Im staying here for a couple days for work and did not pick this establishment out myself. The staff is charming and polite, good first impressions. The rooms are spacious and clean. Some things are a bit dated, but it all feels cozy. I loved the little balcony off my room and the fact that they have an indoor and outdoor pool. Would stay here again.
Took my family for the weekend to Alex Bay. Price for standard 2 double bed for 1 night was good. Location was very nice. Room was clean, I checked (Im a person who is very cautious) had a rustic feel to it. Ground floor room which has a hallway door and a front door to the lot, and short walk across lot to the indoor pool and amazing view of Boldt Castle. Had dinner at the Manor House Restaurant and the food was good, service was great, (they were very busy) and the atmosphere was perfect, the view of Boost Castle and the river was amazing. Saw a few freighters float by. Service desk was helpful with questions about my stay. Check In was fast and easy, and check out was even more so. Will stay again.
This place has everything you could need right on site, but its a little bit of a walk into town, but not too crazy. The jacuzzi rooms are nice, and the indoor pool is a nice touch as well. I think it was nice to have a bar, and restaurant on site, and to have live music.
The room was nice but the mattress was rock hard. Actually hurt in the morning. While most hotels have at least reopened some of the amenities on a limited basis this one is closed up tight. Very little to do here except hang in the room. Desk clerk was very friendly and welcoming.
Checked in and were given a room with two small beds instead of one bigger one which I had asked for, we went to ask for a room and the lady working the counter (dawn) was super understanding and helpful, she got us a slightly nicer room with a king bed definitely 5/5 stars for her service
Room was clean , bed was comfortable jucuzzi was ok but tv was probably only like a 28 inch with poor cable reception. Asked where the outdoor pool was and receptionist pointed out its at the end of the same building where the office is without telling me it still had its winter cover on it. Its June 2nd really !
Rented 2 rooms and the price was very high! Checked in and the rooms smelled like pee! Notified front desk they said they would ionize the air in room. Went to restaurant attached to hotel and hoist was very rude. I checked in at 4pm and by 8pm the same day I checked out! I would not recommend the the hotel ever!
We recently stayed here due to them accommodating pets. We did not have a water front view and I felt for the price and what the rooms were they were expensive. For three nights it was $608 for a standard pet friendly room. The rooms were very outdated, but for the most part clean (minus the floor). I took my shoes off and the floor felt like it hadn’t been cleaned it quite some time. The air conditioner barley worked, we had it set at 58 and it was still warm in the room. We ended up checking out a night early.
I give a 2 stars because the view and room location is not what you think it is. It was very clean and well kept. But for the price we could have done a lot better in the area. Parking was not desirable either. We had to park way in the back and lug all our luggage to the room which was a considerable length away. The indoor pool was in another building, the outdoor pool was across the parking lot. Everything was just not convenient and to spaced out. The biggest perk. The jacuzzi tub.
Finding the hotel was easy enough on navigation and Google Maps, but was disappointed to find most rooms are not facing the water at all. Most rooms are part of a separate structure looking out to the parking lot or a small marina. Checking in was easy enough, but a little surprised to see them still using actual keys for rooms instead of key cards like most hotels. Upon getting up to our room, entering it you were immediately hit with a damp, musty, mold like smell which was unpleasant. The fixtures, furniture and decor was overall dated. The bed was comfortable enough, but only came with 4-5 pillows if thats an issue. We appreciated the small binder that came with information about the indoor pool, restaurants nearby, and the television channels. The bathroom had the same issue as the rest of the room, just a dated, old look to it. Water pressure in the shower was a bit lacking. The balcony was a filled with spiders and mosquitos, which made it difficult to enjoy anytime outside seeing the limited view. Housekeeping staff was polite, friendly and consistent with cleaning rooms, which was appreciated.
I stayed in room 343 it was packed with mosquitoes and nets I kill them all there was no housekeeper my entire stay thats what we was told when I arrived l had to go to the store and buy cleaning supplies. Positive they have a great pool area, and the location is great you can 15 minutes to James Street which is downtown Alexandria Bay.
We had the joy of celebrating our wedding day at Bonnie Castle Resort and Marina this summer. We cannot express how grateful we are, and how amazing our wedding day was. We had our ceremony on their breathtaking gazebo, overlooking the river we have called home for our whole lives. The Home of the Stars reception room is huge, beautiful, welcoming, and so simple to decorate and make it your own.Angie is one of the kindest humans you will meet in your entire life. From the initial meetings, the food tasting, the late night stress emails, Angie was there with a smile and an answer to every question we stirred up! Not only was our experience stress free, it was so much fun. Angie and the staff at Bonnie Castle were there to lend a hand and support our every need. They were flexible, kind, and willing to try out any new or crazy ideas we may have had, and do it with a smile! The food was incredible. All of our guests commented about the ease of use of the buffet line, the delicious food options, and the speed and efficiency the staff was able to serve our crew of 200+ guests. The hotel accommodations were an integral part of our wedding day. The apartment suite used for the bridal party to get ready in was large and had everything we needed. Allowing our guests the options of hotel rooms and boat slips allowed everyone to have the best time possible, all day and night! We loved that Bonnie was truly a ‘one stop shop’ wedding venue. Thank you to Angie and the crew at Bonnie. We love you all!!
Went for a romantic get away w a Jacuzzi room at bonnie Castle resort more like a outdated super 8. Way overpriced for the poor accommodations provided. Rt next door at the rivers edge rooms are exceptionally better then that of the bonnie Castle and nearly the same exact price. Went to take a shower 1st night and there was no hot water. Maintenance had to adjust 20 yr old shower faucet diverder next day. No toilet paper in room. Good thing we noticed before any toiletry business took place. We complained and were greeted w blank faces and just small apologies no re emburrsments even considered. This will b our 1st and last time staying at the bonnie Castle motel. For a hotel that is suppose to b a staple in this beautiful town it is a disgrace. Wish I had something good to write about this place but nothing but disappointment comes from our stay there. Also on the website it says nothing about the bar/restaraunt being closed also nothing about the indoor pool area also being closed. My reccomendation to others is to stay elsewhere where u get ur mineys worth.
I wish I could give zero stars for this review. I don’t even know where to start. Not only did the room have spilt coffee stains all over the bed.. but it smelled like nothing but cigarettes smoke and mold in the bedroom. The pictures on their site don’t look anything like when you get there. It looks like a cheap motel on the outside no nice views from anywhere on their site. When I went to return my key to leave since I couldn’t stay there smelling that room any longer with my asthma the front desk women said I won’t get a refund even though i only spent 3 minutes in the room and went back to the lobby. They were so rude there and no mask just honestly the WORST experience I’ve ever had anywhere. There is a reason they don’t give you refund because no one in their right mind would ever actually stay there once they figure out what the place actually looks like and smells like. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. You will be disappointed I promise.
Room was clean. Great view of Boldt Castle. No lights in bathroom the morning we left due to partial power outage. Bed was ok, pillows hard and flat. Jacuzzi tub in room, we didnt use it, but it was old and could be updated. Had to let water run 10 minutes in shower to get hot water.. All in all was a so-so experience. Considering what we paid for it, I probably wouldnt go back.
Service was the absolute worst and they have a note in the rooms saying no house keeping. They’re way too over priced for having low maintenance rooms, a cold “hot” tub and no available docks for their customers to dock their boat. We were accused of going in the pool past hours when we were inside our room being quiet and did not use the pool at all that day. An employee then called my friend and I both b*tches when we tried defending ourselves. I’ve traveled a lot and have never encountered an employee this rude. I wish I booked my hotel in time to get a room at river edge.
Located by the bank of the Saint Lawrence River on the Alexandria Bay side, this hotel offers walkable distance to the city center and nice view to the river.Staff was very helpful and friendly.Room was clean and comfortable.Water pressure and hot water were good but the shower head could be improved.Plenty of parking spaces.
The room was smelly. The jacuzzi was missing the handle that turns it on. The sink didn’t drain. I have to say that the air cleaner on the countertop did not quite do the job.We won’t stay here again. I wish we hadasked for another room. We were both pretty disgusted. The dinner we had at the restaurant was wonderful and the service was great. We wish the room was more acceptable.
Dont be deceived by the pictures. It is nothing like the website. I dont know where the rooms are they are showing but it wasnt ours. You get an actual key to check in and the rooms are super outdated. No water views. Rather you overview a boat garage. It doesnt look like anything driving in. Very very disappointed for the price. We couldnt stay three night s that we originally booked. Checked out early and no refund
We always go in the off season so the price is reasonable. The rooms are clean but there was a slight musty odor but not bad. There is small things that are issues but nothing major. There is an awesome view in the dinning area of the hotel. Its right on the river. Short drive to the small town and shops. Cozy bar the Salty Dawg is a nice place to hang in the evenings. Not far from the 1000 island winery. We go every year and enjoy ourselves.
Wife booked a room for a night, called me and was super excited we’d be staying at a castle. When I looked everything up, come to find out it is not a castle, it’s absolutely disgusting and bugs are everywhere!!! It’s purely false advertising and definitely too good to be true. Now we have to wait 10 days to get our money back due to the website falsely advertising there “hotel” which in reality is a motel.
Lets get one thing straight.... this is NOT a castle, its just a silly, misleading name meant to sound fancy! This hotel is OLD, in need of serious repair and updating. To make matters worse, they charge summer rates ($170/night!) into September which, quite honestly is insane. This is NOT a $170/night hotel at any time of year! The breakfast (which was good with friendly wait staff) is NOT included in the room price (an additional ~$12/person) and is served at the Manor Restaurant across the parking lot. The restaurant itself is nice, with excellent views of the river. Dinners were very tasty and reasonably priced ($15-20). Overall, I would not recommend this hotel in its current state...perhaps after a complete overhaul, it would be a nice place to stay.
I called and made reservations for Friday of bike weekend. I stayed one night, the reservation made was for one night but they are insisting that I stayed 2 nights. Basically they are stealing $235 from me and I’m filing a police report for theft. Ps. If you’re thinking of booking this resort beware. Nothing is open at the resort so you’re paying resort prices without any amenities.
My husband & I took are 2 kids (17 & 14) to see boldt castle and a boat tour. We stayed 1 night and so glad we did! We loved the location, near shops and water, 2 pools (inside & out) and next to swimming beachy area on st Lawrence river too!! Nice rooms, clean, comfy beds.
If you make reservations make sure you specify that you want to be near the water, with a view. The area we were placed was in the middle of a marina, boats and parking lot surrounded our complex.. our view was of storage areas. The room was clean, and the staff was happy to help with whatever we needed.I gave location 4 stars as the lunch area was on the water, with a great view of Boldt castle.
Stayed there this past weekend and we had a great experience overall with a few concerns.Overall Appearance & Location: To be honest it took us a minute to find the entrance because it sort of in the cut, but the location is very convenient to town. It was about a 15 min walk- few minute drive, adequate parking. Overall, the look of the property and feel is a marina , nothing special in regards to landscaping and appearance of the hotel itself, but nice because we had a great view of the water being right on the lake. There are a bunch of no smoking signs, but people were smoking all over with no issues from staff. It was not a concern to me, but just highlighting for the smokers who are worried.Food/Drinks: It does have one restaurant open right now at the end of the dock. They have I believe two other ones, but they are closed due to COVID. I did not have a chance to eat there, but we were close to so many local spots. One of my favorites is Cavallarios - omg the food and service was amazing and they have live music with an icecream spot not far by.Beach/Water Activities: There is a small spot where folks were swimming, but we ended up going to a local state park and found a beach just a little bigger where people were swimming and camping. It also had some great views of the water so I suggest hitting one of the parks for the day. There is also two swimming pools, one indoor and one outdoor that were convenient and clean. IRoom/Cleanliness: The room was was overall clean, just a little outdated, but not bothersome. We had a King suite with a Jacuzzi in the bathroom which was amazing! It was HUGE - well enough for two people, working jets and everlasting hot water. There is also a shower too and a sink in the BR and a small sink in the mini kitchen area. We did have a mini fridge - not TOO cold but good enough and no microwave. However, they have a 24hr microwave in the common area. The bed was extremely comfortable and it was nice having a balcony for views. The only thing I despised about the room were the spiders. I have never seen so many spiders in one room at a time in my life. At first, I tried to ignore them, but more kept appearing in corners, making webs around our balcony door practically taking over the balcony at night. While in the jacuzzi, one even fell from the ceiling. Moving bag, one moved. I mean these things are ALL OVER - this would be the only concern especially if you are sensitive to spider bites. Bring spray.Overall, we had a great stay even with a lot of the local bars, restaurants and clubs being closed. Definitely try a wine slushy, hit Sams Boat Toars, and definitely get a game of mini golf in.
A pretty nice resort for the off season. On the USA side bear Alexandria Bay. Pool was good and room was a but dated, not very modern. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the area . Pets welcome and lots of surrounding park area. Restaurant was ok. Decorated like a 1970s sports pub. Staff was new and helpful.
The room at least looks clean but a discounted room for a wedding is 120ish a night and most hotels that cost 60 a night could give them a run for their money. I also wouldnt recommend this place for people with young children because there is no way to lock the balcony door and there is neither a deadbolt nor a chain on the room door to prevent them (or anyone with a credit card for that matter) from just opening the door on their own at night while you sleep.
The entire resort is stuck in 1985. Everything is dated and needs a major update. The fitness room has virtually no working equipment. Hallways are dimly lit and there are no elevators. That being said, rooms are comfy, great location, friendly staff, clean facilities, and lots to do in the area. I dont think it was worth what we paid but the other hotels in the area are somewhat rundown and need a face lift.We ate at the Manor House - GREAT VIEW. Food was perfect and absolutely delicious. The adjoining bar was fun and had good drinks/service.
Our room was very nice, with a beautiful view of the St. Lawrence river. The route to the room is a little unusual. I understand that the resort has been here for many years. It looks as if our section was an addition. Staff is friendly and helpful. On site restaurant has excellent food.
We were under-whelmed by the hotel. We ended up paying more for the second night so we didnt have to walk across the parking lot to get to the pool. The hotel is broken up into different buildings, making it hard to enjoy the stay. The sports bar was excellent and had something for everyone to enjoy. Breakfast was mediocre at best. The rooms were less than we were expecting, the room we were in on the first night had a nice heater that worked very well. Our room on the second night had an older heating unit that kept the room too warm, even with it set to the cool setting. The pool was very nice, but we were only given 2 towels to use there, even though our reservation was for 2 adults and 2 children.
Cute little resort with a great view of Boldt Castle. The staff were friendly and efficient. The room was simple and clean. I loved the food at the sports bar. Our bartender was super sweet and really attentive for a having a full bar on Friday night. Everything was closing up around 9 locally, so I managed to a good nights sleep each day. A slight water pressure lack, but some may not consider this a bad thing given other hotel showers that have bruising pressure. I definitely recommend for a weekend trip.
I stayed here two nights. First impression of room was very good. Staff pleasant and interested in assisting you any way u need it. Good golf cart shuttle service to and from restaurant. Very outstanding dinning room with view of lake. Food well presented and tasted very good.I would stay here again and for more days next time.I would recommend switching out clock radio for a better quality product. It was unplugged and therefore I discovered that it cant be turned off unless you unplug it. Had trouble resetting it, asked for help.Laminated TV guide would be helpful in order to know # 21 is the channel guide. I had no clue how to pull it up. I had to ask.
Check in was a breeze. Friendly, knowledgable staff. Comfortable rooms. They had the heat on for us when we arrived to our riverside courtyard room. Jacuzzi tub was incredible. Hottest hot water and enough room for 2 actual sized adults. Woke up to a beautiful scene outside our door. Thank you so much for the wonderful experience.
Positive: Just location Negative: As a Motel, it¿s too Much Expensive, it charged for 3.5 to 4 stars hotel charge, but doesn¿t match with the hotel service, just provide for a normal motel service, old building and all facilities are old and lack of maintenance, Really Disappointed
The front desk was extremely rude. A woman got a noise complaint and when my 16 year old son answered the door and she pushed him onto the floor and started yelling at him. She announced herself after this happened. We called the manager and he vouched for her saying she was his best employee. There was so much chlorine in the pool that my hair started falling out and my brother had an extreme allergic reaction to it. They said no smoking on the balconies but the neighbor had 42 cigarette butts in front of his door. The nightclub closes at 11. Indoor pool is half a football field away. Staff was racist towards my Spanish family and treated them very badly. If you are young I do not recommend this place.
Very outdated, beds not comfortable, very disappointed with the room specially for the price, they give you a small bar of soap but no shampoo or anything else because of covid? Dining area closed, breakfast was very basic cereal, coffee, muffins. Will not stay there again.
So. The place has a nice view of the river and boldt castle. Due to covid not much was open. But the hallways had spiders and cob webs and some of the guests were smoking weed which traveled thru to our room, which the staff didnt care. The air conditioning doesnt work all the time so the room was hot mid sleep. For 2 nights it was over 600 dollars. It was worth maybe 400. If it wasnt for the great views we would of probably left.
Love the location!! Close enough to downtown to walk, yet far enough not to hear downtown. The restaurant is fantastic as well. My only reason for not giving it five stars was that the rooms need to be updated... other than that the room was clean, fresh linens and everything worked as it should.
This is your standard motel, bear in mind this is mid October in their off season. Nothing fancy but acceptable on face value. The decor and feel is certainly stuck in the 1980s (youre issued an actual key) but the staff was pleasant and helpful. It is not on the water but certain rooms can see the river, but their property offers stunning views of Boldt Castle. The walls are entirely too thin, we heard our adjoining room neighbors entirely too often regardless what they were doing. The Manor House restaurant was overpriced and sub par so not worth the cost. It wasnt a horrible stay by any means but I wouldnt consider it again.
Absolutely the worst dining experience Ive ever had. The margarita was delicious, but it went down hill from there. We waited 45 minutes for our food after the salad came. The food was cold and way overcooked. The shrimp had the texture of beef jerky. The steak was 1/3 fat and bland. The rolls were very good and warm though.
Went here for a friends wedding. The rooms are old and insanely priced. The staff ignored us at best. Couldnt get a water at the bar during the wedding. Went to the fancy breakfast buffet the next morning. Other than being seated we had 0 service. My mom got up and got water for us from a pitcher at the hostess stand. Couldnt even find anyone to pay so we just left. I have NEVER dined and dashed but what else could we do? We sat at our table for 20mins with empty plates waiting for a server. I am not very familiar with the A Bay area, but there has got to be a better place to spend way too much money.
We had dinner at Bonnie Castle Resort and as usual everything was delicious. Our meals were sauteed scallops over risotto and chicken parmigiana. Both were incredible! We love the elegant atmosphere and the retro back-in-the-day feel of the resort. The views while sitting and enjoying your meal are breathtaking as you are able to take in almost 180° of the St. Lawrence below. We will definitely return here when we visit Alexandria Bay next summer.
I would give a higher review if we had started off in the upstairs room. We had to get moved as our neighbors were up all night drinking till they vomited. The downstairs has no sound proofing at all.You could literally hear the toilet next door flushing. I will say once we were moved upstairs the room was much nicer and more updated. I host air bnb and totally understand the upkeep expenses. Night two was definitely a much better experience.
We had our wedding there August 10, 2019. Angie made us feel like the most important people in the world as soon as we walked through the door. She and the staff made planning the wedding easy and almost stress free. Our guests have raved about the food and friendly staff.
Last night they couldnt get anything and I mean anything out of the kitchen. It was a disaster. Tonight we went to the fundraiser. We ate from the bar menu again. This time it was fast and tasty. My wife had a steak salad. We all shared blooming onion, wings and tuna. The food was well presented, varied and enjoyable. Nice work this time....
What a dream of a beautiful vacation spot right here in Western New York that looks like a fairytale-like, European get away. We love visiting1,000 Islands and Alexandria Bay. Staying at a castle was an exciting thought. Hence why Bonnie Castle was chosen. It has the best view of the Castle and awesome sunsets over them. The restaurant in Bonnies is good but their gluten free breakfast items are very limited. We ended up having grand dinners at this castle but went into town also to get more options and enjoy the atmosphere. Our room was upgraded to a suit with a Jacuzzi but there were a lot of spiders, cobwebs, and other critters running around because of the natural watery and tree-rich, setting. There was also a musty smell from the water permeating the buildings for decades.
Clean room, okay beds, very nice Jacuzzi in bathroom, smallish balcony on second floor. The restaurant connected has really good food and good service. If/when I come back to this area, I would definitely stay here again...next time Id request a room overlooking water instead of parking lot though.
We were very disappointed. It was a place we had visited many times and to see it now was sad.Our bedding was clean, but the rugs and bath were not.The shower knob didnt work well.. Hard to adjust the water. We were told our view was Bolt Castle, but all we saw were other units.Cobwebs every where. The grounds need extra attention.Checking out was a nightmare. Doubled charged. Took an hour to get it straight. Not worth half of what we paid.Rivers Edge had the same price and great rooms.
My best friend and I had an amazing weekend here! The room was absolutely beautiful and everyone who works here was friendly and more than willing to go out of their way to assist us if we needed anything. They were excellent with giving us directions and guides to where the best attractions, shops, and things to do were. We had a beautiful view of Boldt Castle from our balcony so it was a little bit pricier than some of the surrounding hotels, but that is because you absolutely get what you pay for! We are already planning another trip for next year. We tried all three of the restaurants here and they were all excellent from the drinks to the food and the service! Thank you so much Bonnie Castle and all the staff for really making the weekend stunning! We had the best time and will see you again!
We just spent a weekend at Bonnie Castle much to several friends dismay. They told us we would be disappointed but since the rest of the wedding guests were staying there we decided to tough it out. Much to our surprise the resort is being nicely renovated by the 2 sisters who recently purchased it. Our rooms were very clean with new carpet, new mattresses, new windows, new air conditioning unit, new bathroom. There is still much work needed to be done but these owners have done great things in the few months they have owned it. As they told us, their down time is in the winter when they can get to the things that could wait. The priorities are being taken care of as they can attend to them.I commend the 2 sisters for their diligence and concern in making Bonnie Castle the resort it once was. They are well on the way to accomplishing this.Thank you for a pleasant, congenial stay.lCarole and Jim BishopPenfield, NY
Food was fantastic so the chefs are good. However the wait staff was inconsistent. Noticed one lady waiting on a huge table was very attentive while ours we had to wait for a while after our drinks had been empty to get a refill. The music I suppose was directed towards a much older audience. We are almost 60 but the music was from the 40s and 50s. Hard for us to get into it. We like mus mostly from the 80s on up.
Rooms are spacious, clean and affordable. Staff are kind, courteous and always willing to assist you any time you ask. Facilities, pool, and gym were very clean and well maintained. Would recommend this resort to any boater or family looking for a place to stay over night. They wont be disappointed.
Me and my boyfriend stayed in one of the king rooms with the 2 person Jacuzzi tub. the rooms are clean and made up nice. the staff was great. i will say driving up u have to go threw the marina so it seems kinda weird at first but that slao makes it nice since your out of the way and it is peace full we did not eat at any of the 3 restaurants there but they looked nice and from they give you a good mix of fancy ( the manor ) dining to casual bar ( the point ) the rooms were smaller then we thought but still supper nice. we would absolutely stay there again
My wife and I stayed here the last few days of May and the beginning of June. We loved it. We had a jacuzzi spa room facing Boldt Castle. The view from our balcony was fantastic. We sat out there every evening and had a few cocktails. The staff was great. Very friendly and informative. The rooms are being updated but the NEW heating/cooling system was great. We used both the heat for the chilly evenings and the air conditioning for the warm days. It was nice having a few drinks on their deck after enjoying dinner in their restaurant. The food is very good and you dont have to spend an arm and a leg. The new owners seem to be making improvements everyday. Work is being completed daily but yet the workers are out of the way and you really dont see them. New linens must have been purchased with Bonnie Castle embroidered on them. Very impressive. Once all the work is completed it should really be a top notched resort. The coffee is superb, especially on your balcony in the morning. Looking forward to returning and will request to have the same jacuzzi spa room overlooking the castle. Once again what a beautiful view from our room. Thank you for a great time. It was my wifes birthday and she loved every minute being at your resort.
The name in no way matches the establishment. After visiting for the first time I quickly realized I could have stayed at a holiday Inn about 20 minutes away and it would have been a lot cleaner with better service. The rooms required actual keys, like the metal ones and the service was bad. My sheets needed to be changed as soon as I got there because they were stained. I also had trouble breathing in the room. I felt like i went back in time but modern day prices.
Was very happy with our stay Saturday night. Marie who checked us in was very customer centric. Only thing I would say was a negative is there was no secuity lock lock on the inside of the door. Only lock wad pushing the button in. As a women alone it made me very nervous. We were on the office side in the room numbers 200 and up.
Will never return to Bonnie Castle. From the moment we checked we had an awful experience. The dark haired woman who checked us in was very rude. The first morning we were there I took an ice cold shower. The room was a huge disappointment. Very outdated. I am disabled. I asked before we arrived if handicapped accessible and was told yes. It is NOT!
Our room was nice the carpets need up dating ours looked like someone was murdered there.... jacuzzi tub was nice and clean enjoyed our night ... but breakfast wasnt breakfast was expecting eggs and what not to order but it ended up being a Danish and fizzy apple juice
Outdated and dirty room. Expensive for off-season and quality of the accommodations. Coffee maker in the room didnt work. Refrigerator needed thawing (see photo). Room smelled musky and was cold. Countertop in room was damaged and falling apart. My point being that for $99 a night off-season, its a huge disappointment.
Front desk staff friendly and knowledgeable. Room was clean and comfortable but dated. Had dinner in the restaurant. Service friendly and efficient. Food was very good with good portion size. Great view of river, Boldt Castle, and the sunset. Would definitely return for another stay.
They forced me to put star but this place is a big zero. I have to warn people what a terrible place this was. We literally paid $248 the first night for this horrible place which isnt even worth $100. When my husband complained she knocked down to $180 which is price of non jaquzzi room still a complete rip off. I paid bill yesterday and signed off for $203 and now they are charging my bank $248. I dont want anyone else to experience this hell. Please dont stay here. I have a copy of receipt which I will be showing to my bank.
Clean room with nice amenities like blow dryer, coffee maker, refrigerator, clothes iron, t.v., wi-fi and air conditioning. Room 332 has a troblesome door lock. More than once we thought we may need assistance as we could not get the key to unlock the door. The room has a very narrow balcony over looking an unsightly rusty tin covered marina. A view we did our best to avoid. I dislike air-conditioning when an opened window will suffice especially for sleeping. However, the windows did not open leaving only the balcony door to let in any fresh air which also let in bugs so not an option. In the wee hours of the morning my husband and I could hear a critter in either the heat/air conditioning unit or wall there of. It was scratching and gnawing on something for ten to fifteen minutes until my husband got up and kicked the unit to scare it away. The inconsideration of other guests was quite surprising. A large group of young girls occupying several rooms both nights we stayed fraternized to all hours in the hall and roaming to each others opened doors as if no one else occupied other rooms and may be trying to sleep at midnight. We did enjoy a delicious dinner outside overlooking the river at the sports bar. And proximity to golf course and attractions was great. If the room had a better view we would have given it a four star rating. Five stars if it had all that plus room service or at least continental breakfast.
Bonnie Castle was very disappointing when we were there last year. It was very over priced for what you got. The room was so damp that our cloths and sheets were wet to touch and when I brought it up to the front desk they offered us new sheets. I pushed back and got a different room but it wants much better only dryer. I would never stay there again.
Rooms:We had a room in the St. Lawrence Building that was built in the 1980’s. Everything here is from the ‘80s, but is well-kept, maintained, and clean. The new owners have plans on doing extensive renovations.Bugs:They have a problem with gnats in this area. We were fine with it. If that freaks you out, this might not be the place for you. Most of the problem is because there is a big bright light next to the outside door of every room. Bright lights attract bugs, and when you open the door, all the bugs come in the room. Our room had an entrance from the main lobby so we never used the outside door. This helped considerably, but there were still a handful of gnats on the walls.Breakfast:There is no free breakfast. They do have breakfast available at the Restaurant Manor, and they charge $11.95 for the buffet; which was surprisingly quite good.We never used the WiFi because Verizon has a fantastic LTE signal here. There are outlets on the wall sconces next to the bed to plug your charger in and the A/C worked fine. If you are a light sleeper you may not want room 202, 203, or 206 because they are next to the ice machine. People get ice all night long in the summer, and it’s very loud.
Are northern New York Corvette club had a meeting there. We were provided with a smorgasbord offering beef tips, chicken, salmon vegetables salt potatoes salad. Food was absolutely delicious ending with a wonderful dessert. With such a large group that was very efficiently done. Thats a chef and the girls were all just wonderful. Overlooks the beautiful saint Lawrence River and boldt Castle.
This resort is located on the water and very large. It is outdated and in need of cosmetic improvements, but the rooms are clean and large enough to move around in. There are two swimming pools; inside with a jacuzzi, and one outside. The staff is very efficient and friendly. I would absolutely stay there again.
Slow service. Rude bartender. They closed down the bar at 11pm on a Saturday night when there was a pretty decent crowd in the room. It felt like the very fact that patrons were in the bar was a nuisance to them. The rooms are terrible. The last time we stayed there was a 1980s crt television in the bathroom. Im not sure how any sane person could ever stay here and feel like they got their moneys worth.
We found Bonnie Castle to be very delightful. We had a party of 11 in three rooms and everyone liked how the new owners have made this place like new. The staff was helpful and friendly . The restaurant was well managed with great food. Waitress Michelle was on top of everything, which made the meal most memorable. We would call this well worth returning to and presently the best place to stay in Alex Bay.
Attended a mystery dinner theater event. The show itself was unbelievable and fantastic. The actors mingled great and you never realized it had started until they were well into their act. 5⭐️The food was just as good. Steak for myself and chicken French for the wife with a portabella stuffed mushroom for appetizer and a poached pear for dessert. 5 ⭐️The room once we figured out the route was nice. It overlooked Boat Castle and the St Lawarance Seaway. Rooms a bit dated with small shower but we had then jacuzzi tub which was very nice. 3 ⭐️
Do not get your boat fixed from these people. As a matter of fact do not deal with them at all. They subcontract work because they do not have qualified mechanics. Then in order to make money they will add additional hours that they did not spend on the boat. I trusted them to winterize and shrink wrap my boat. When I went to check on it in December it was not shrink wrapped and was sitting there with snow on it and they took the canvas off and left it exposedThis was not a cheap boat. This is lack of management. Come spring I will be taking my boat elsewhere. Goodbye Bonnie Castle. May you rest in peace.
This is NOT a Resort. Its a motel & it smells like one. You drive through a dirty old marina parking lot to arrive an an old dingy motel. It is outdated. You receive an actual key to get into your room. Not a key card. We walked up an old cement stair case into a dimly lit hallway. It looked like they lost power & had emergency lights on it was so dark. We walked into our room & smelled urine. We went to see our view & it was the parking lot. No river no castle. It looked ok but the smell was so bad we returned to the office to get a refund. But because we booked it that morning they couldnt refund our $114. We left anyway!
I give 0 stars i rented 2 rooms connected because i wanted to have a nice quite mini vacation with my kids. Who are older it was my youngest sons 18th birthday so this was what was left for opening in hotels here. First off tue room i was in haf no heat. The tub Jacuzzi didnt work. We went to the pool area as it is pretty there was a woman drunk acting the fool. We had to go across the street to get towels because there is non in the pool area. I wont come here again. Ill call ahead to rivers edge next time. Not much more in price but u get so much more for your money. The maintenance guy came while i was in my underwear... Come on get it together.and on top of that the jacuzzi. By the pool ran over and the clraning lady was very rude. I hope this helps them get it right because i spent alot of money. And my beautiful view is the parking lot. We had to walk thought a maze of cement hallways to get to the pool from the third floor. It was a mess
My husband and i just returned from a 5 night stay. We were greated by friendly, down to earth staff. While dated, our room was VERY clean .we prefered the river view rooms, however, so our hostess(Tammy)was very accomidating in moving us to a room ground floor , within feet of the river and Bolt Castle !! We enjoyed every moment of our stay. The only thing that could make it better is if the rooms got a bit of a facelift. We will definitely return, and highly recommed ! The Woyksnars, Niagara Falls,NY
We recently stayed at the Bonnie Castle and found it very comfortable. It is an older establishment but very clean. The employees were very friendly and eager to help.We ate at the restaurant on the premise one night and it was wonderful. The HaddockFrancaise is to die for. The view from the deck is beautiful. Enjoyed!
First, let me say we stayed here last year. It was during the off season and we had a good stay. We were checked in on time, the staff were great, we used the Marina and the boat launch with no issues. Before I continue my review, there were six people at our table, we had traveled for most of the day. The combined INCOME of the entire table was ONE MILLION PLUS ANNUALLY. Youd never know by looking at us. We dont flaunt anything, were not flashy, just normal families. This year, we arrived for an event in August. We didnt expect to be checked in over an hour and a half after we were guaranteed to be. We had dinner at the Manor House which is the restaurant located on the property. We arrived at 7:05pm for dinner, our friends and us placed orders for dinner at 7:15pm. We ate at 7:30pm, our friends not until 9:30pm. We had asked our server to see the manager several times. When she finally came to our table at 8:15pm and we explained that we had been waiting over an hour for dinner. The manager said, Theres a huge party that has come in, there have been constant orders coming in, etc. My friend explained that she had watched several couples and tables of four eat and leave within the time frame that she and the rest of the table was waiting for their food. The manager said she would see what the hold up was. By 9pm, as you can imagine, we were very upset. We had asked to see the manager again and this time, a different manager came by the table. She was short, she was nasty, she had a demeaning tone, and behaved as though she was completely put out and wasting her time by the questions my friends were asking her. She explained very curtly, We have a wedding party here, we have fifty orders that came in all at once and our kitchen is overwhelmed. I will check on the food. We asked if they were at almost the end of the season, then how could their kitchen be overwhelmed??? She ignored this question and about five minutes later, food arrived at the table. My friend sent her fish back, it was raw. My friends husband ate his dinner, however, I should mention he ordered a salad. The other couple that was with us ordered steaks, two different temperatures, one med rare and one well done. The one that was med rare was actually blue, looked as though it came straight off the grill once. It had a sour smell and we told him not to eat it. He tried his wifes steak and it was med rare instead of well done. Her steak, sampled by all of us in very tiny pieces was sour tasting. My friend looked at me and said, I feel like Im back in the times of slavery and living in the 1800s in the south. I felt so sad and angry for her. When the bill came, it was dropped on the table by the manager, more like thrown and she stalked off without a word. She stood so that her name tag wasnt visible just as the first manager had. The first manager had dirty blonde hair to her shoulders and wore glasses. The second manager had dark brown hair cut to the nape of her neck and also wore glasses. We tried for over twenty minutes to get the attention of someone so we could pay the bill and could not get anyones attention. Finally, her husband took the check to a young girl standing at the computer and asked that he be able to pay his bill. When she tried to leave, he asked that she remain at the computer and run his card in front of him. My friend looked at me and said, Is it my imagination or is she a racist? Now we have to beg for them to take our money? This is insane and I want to go home. I have a right, we all do to be treated with respect. She sounded so sad and I couldnt have agreed with her more. I made a complaint to the front desk since the restaurant is on their property and the reply was, We have no control over the restaurant or its employees. I understand that this review is long winded. However, I felt it necessary to warn patrons and families who are in search of places to eat while theyre on vacation. I hope this review will bring about change.
My wife and I just returned from the best New Years Eve party we ever attended, bringing in 2019. Bonnie Castle, in the Home of the Stars room, did a wonderful job. Nick and the Nice Guys was an awesome band for dancing and enjoying the evening (they played from 9-1 - wow!). Food was excellent - best lobster (killer seasoning) I ever recall (and I live in Rhode Island), land the steak rounding out the surf-and-turf was perfectly cooked, just above medium rare and tender. It all arrived hot. Cheese cake was top shelf. Shrimp appetizers excellent. We had WAY more fun than at the Providence G for 2018 or the Boston Pops for 2017 (and those were expensive black-tie events). Wife said shes likely to want to return next year to bring in 2020; she never says stuff like that. We met some great people from Binghamton and from Carthage, NY, danced forever, and really enjoyed the open bar - and they poured well. Everyone we talked to thought the price was low and we got a lot - people all around the room. We stayed at a house nearby, but everyone at our table stayed at Bonnie overnight and said their rooms were fine and new (consistent with our experience from early December 2017).In summer (and Spring / Fall) we go to the Sports Bar next to the Manor House Restaurant (same building) for the dance floor there and the excellent live music. I just learned that for 2019, they have contracted the Double Vs for a lot of weekends, and those guys gave us the best night of dancing of 2018 (until New Years Eve anyway), and that was right after the Neil Diamond tribute band. We go to the Point Bar and Grill for some lunch or afternoon bar-food and beer or drinks, with the boat parked next to the table and a superb view of Boldt Castle (the real castle from George Boldt). From the dock, it is an easy walk up a hill to the main building with the Manor House Restaurant and Sports Bar. We have not used the outdoor deck at the Manor House, but it looks great and was the site of an exciting wedding-party sparkler and fireworks display that was seriously exciting last year.In summer, there are usually dock hands to assist if needed. The staff is always really friendly, even when a bit overwhelmed. We feel like were in familiar country always. If you want to drive in, parking is always easy and free. For events, they bring in extra staff to assist and (if needed) have golf carts if the walk is too far (but we almost always get to park right next to the building when we drive). We know people who keep a boat at the Bonnie Marinas all summer and enjoy the dinners, dancing, drinks or the pool and, especially, the unbeatable view of the 1000 Islands, Boldt Castle, and the cool summer breezes or outstanding winter ice fishing and skating / skiing, and of course summer boating and fishing. This is a great place to be centered, with easy (walkable) access to the other attractions of Alexandria Bay, and yet off to the side so you arent overwhelmed by revelers in the streets of the village.
Checked in and went to our room to find ants that were an inch big. I have never been so disgusting. I went down stairs to ask for my money back and the girl refused because it wasn’t a good reason. I made her call her boss and they then refunded me my money. I went right over to Riveredge and paid the same amount for so much more! I would not waste your time with this place.
Picture are very deceiving, Don’t waste you money ! The room is seriously outdated, walls are very very thin, glob of hair in the shower drain when I turned it on for the first time and 3 dead spiders in the room tells me housekeeping isn’t doing a great job.We will never stay there againVery unsatisfied
Good location in A Bay. The Wi-Fi was good enough to stream Netflix from a Fire stick hooked up to the TV in the room. In room cable was horrible, the picture was very snowy. All in all the room was nice but the resort is very dated, probably very nice back in the early 80s. Its been a long time since Ive been to a hotel with a real key for the door. Washrooms in the pool area need a major rehaul as the doors dont even close properly.
Hotel room was available upon arrival. Whirlpool hooneymoon suite was nice with the indoor pool. Everything was very nice. EXCEPT THE EXTREMELY LOUD MUSIC COMING FROM THE BAR ABOVE OUR ROOM! Do they forget people have rooms below them! 😡not happy about that! They should at least let their guest know they have a party or band above them and ask them if they are ok with it. Common curtesy!
Beautiful view, but subpar service and setup. Attended a wedding event and there is a lack of handicap access outside for the gazebo and going inside to the bar. Staff was not very friendly. At one point as dinner was being served we asked the wedding planner as she was making rounds for some more water for the table. She said the wait staff would be out. 15 mins later we ended up getting up and finding our own pitcher of water. Then water was cleared from the tables after dinner was done, but dessert was still being served. Finally the food was just ok. Filet is a good cut, but it was over done and the bearnaise sauce was an over peppered gravy. I expected more for a beautiful location.
We went for New Years brunch and were not disappointed! Everything from prime rib and an omelette station, plus frittata, blitzes, lobster ravioli, rosemary chicken, fruit, it was all just amazing! The service is very professional, friendly, and helpful. We sat next to a window so we could enjoy the river view and Boldt Castle in the background. It was entirely perfect!
We stayed here in March 2008 for our sons NY state hockey championship tournament (His team, The Great Neck Bruins-we won!!). The rooms were ok, a bit musty but not overwhemingly bad. The dining room has a gorgeous view and the food was excellent. We were there off peak season so we did not expect much but we were pleasantly suprised. The pool and spa were working and in great condition when we stayed there.
From the moment we enter the door with were meet with smile and taken to our table. The place had changed and all for the better. It was bright and very comfortable. We have spent years going to Bonnie Castle in the past for reunions ,Christmas eve, parties and now Thanksgiving . I have to say the new owners have made the Buffet menu so great. There was such a variety of choices to eat The Lavender %rock salt Encrusted Roast beef was to die for. Maple buttered Glazed Ham and the Cranberry - sag glazed Roast turkey was tender and lovely. The Lemon garlic asparagus were my 11 year old grandson favorite and that is saying a lot. I myself loved them too. The waiter Lonnie was perfect and made our meal a pleasure. The tables were set up beautiful and our view of river was perfect.Only change I would make would be dessert. The children werent to happy. with desserts. I would suggest tray of cookies maybe a chocolate cake or jello with whipped cream. A coconut cake would please me with raspberry filling.I would give Manor House 10 starts if they would let me. Maybe they will be open for Christmas. Hint ! Hint.! It is a spot you shouldnt miss...............
It wasnt to good the pool maid was very very rude to the guests. Meanwhile during swimming in the pool we kept getting someone elses hair wrapped in our finger and our family were the only ones in the pool. So that means they dont clean out the pool filters everyday like they are supposed to. Then we had a Jacuzzi in our rooms and it didnt work. Then to top it all of my friend wasnt even fully dressed and the maintenance guy just walked in un announced we are very dissatisfied with the Bonnie Castle Resort and Marina. Thumbs down all the way across the board.
I will not go back, rooms are outdated so much that there is static in the tv, so you cant see the tv clear. If YOU ARE DRINKING THERE IS A CURFEW STARTING 10PM IS QUIET TIME, OR YOU WILL HAVE THE FRONT DESK GO IN YOU ROOM WITH OUT PERMISSION AND SAY THE WILL KICK YOU OUT, EVEN IF ONLY YOUR TV IS ON. I had this happen to Me. Front desk lady, knocked on the door and my brother in-law who is only 15 was yelled at by the front desk overnight staff came in the room looking at the children and screaming while i was in the shower. I told front desk manager what happend and she vouged for her employee, and then we talked to the General manager and he did nothing as well. They did not treat White people differently only us we are hispanc american citizens. My neice had her quiceanera in the hall of stars. And staff in that bulding where very polite, james, angie, bartenders espically the austrialin lady and waiters So if you are young like me and my family i do not recomend its like a Nursing Home.
Hotel staff was awesome. But not restaurant staff. Rude. At breakfast. Only one in whole place .....Asked for substitute for meat fresh fruit.....And server Polly said “No” In a direct voice. I corrected her and said yes we will. Got the fruit. But she Screwed me over with no home fries. Omg. What was that. Omg it was my birthday. Omg. Horrible
What a disaster. The management, facility, wait staff and general accommodations are terribly inept. The owner of this facility is officially a slum lord. Im sure this doesnt concern him/her while ordering another Bay Breeze on the water in the Florida Keys, but please...anyone considering this place STAY AWAY! Ive never been so disappointed. My wife and I were planning a relaxing getaway and instead ended up aggravated and stressed out. Rivers Edge Resort next door seemed very nice. If you are dead set on staying in Alex Bay, try this one.
Rooms are in the process of being renovated but even the older rooms are better than the nicer room found in other nearby hotels. There is currently a gnat problem which is seasonal and I wish the sign had been posted on the balcony door because I missed it and opened the door and there were so many gnats! Its a good location with stunning views and restaurants on site. I only wish they had room service.
My girlfriends and I attended Sunday brunch where they advertised endless mimosas and bloody marys for an additional $6.99. We all had a few mimosas but at the end of our meal one of my girlfriends wanted to try a bloody and ordered the next time our waitress came around. When she brought the drink she informed us then that her check would be different because she charged an additional $6.99 for the bloody mary. Not before, but AFTER she brought it to the table. She said this was because it was endless mimosas OR bloody marys. We double checked the advertisement they posted to Facebook and the sign they had at their hostess counter and it clearly said mimosas AND bloody marys. Anyone reading it would get the impression that they are interchangeable if youve paid the $6.99. When the waitress came around again, we tried to bring the discrepancy to her attention, not to argue the bill because we were all ok with the extra charge if it was in fact OR, but just to bring to their attention that their ad says AND and that causes some confusion. Before we could finish speaking the waitress threw a temper tantrum and literally threw seven dollars from her tips in her apron onto our plates on our table and said fine Ill just pay for it! She stormed off ignoring us and could then be seen venting to the other wait staff and gesturing towards our table. It was embarrassing and completely shocking. I have never in my life been treated that way by a server and we were all very upset at her behavior because up until that point we had all had a very pleasant meal. It completely ruined the whole experience and put a damper on the rest of our girls day out. We are all mothers of young children and we rarely, if ever, get to do anything for ourselves. Not to mention Im moving across the country in a week. This was my farewell and our day to relax and have fun and we left feeling like children who had just been scolded in front of their peers. It was completely unprofessional, rude, and uncalled for. The food and drinks were spectacular, the service left much to be desired.
Its May 19th and we are loving it here.I had asked for a boldt castle view and wow they did provide. Gorgeous view.so peaceful and serene, private balcony. Bedding is amazing, room very nice .shower and whirlpool are wonderful .restaurant was great .having a wonderful time.thank you bonnie castle resort..the Russells
Take a step back to 1979 here at Bonnie castle.Upon check in they screwed up the reservation so theres a start.Get to the room and its dirty. Theres food scraps, bathroom is gross, ended up complaining and they cleaned it, not all that throughly, but better. The room we were in I was told had a view of the courtyard.... The courtyard is a parking lot... Literally. The rooms havent been updated in over 30 years. There was an old Zenith tv in the bathroom, a phone next to the tub and sex mirrors on every wall. It reminded me of a place the golden girls wouldve stayed in.Out door pool was dirty and indoor pool was tiny.Really nothing redeeming about this place.. At a price tag of over $200 a night..This place, Im sure. Was really bumping at one time. But no longer.
Angie Cobb is amazing! She put my mind at ease preparing for my reception there. It was supposed to storm that day and she told me not even to worry if we needed a backup venue for the ceremony, there were plenty of places at Bonnie Castle that would work. Wedding and reception were wonderful!
Lets just start by saying the employees enjoy themselves..... they laugh they converse with the guests... They pour a delicious and strong drink ....the food will leave an impression taunting you to return time and time again. The view from any of the Vantage points, sensational. The lovely woman playing the harp at the Sunday brunch set of tone that was unexpected but calming and delightful.Even the beautiful woman that owns the place came out and my wife and I enjoyed a wonderful conversation with her. She shared some facts, stories and even folklore regarding Alexandria Bay New York. What makes four a great destination I say comfortable environments delicious food Pleasant and prompt service and happy people all around enjoying what Bonnie Castle has provided. my wife and I will return.
Many issues with this place. Let me start by saying that the little things do matter. My wife and I are in the process of getting a boat moved to the Thousands Islands area and have made several calls with no return from messages left asking about marina slips, boat trailer sales, etc. When inquiring about this in person today, we were told by an employee that the woman who handles sales is very lazy and never returns calls. Hint to the manager...this is affecting your sales!Additional, we decided to get a drink and a bite to eat at the Point bar and grill. After sitting at a table for twenty minutes, I had to go to the bar to ask for a server. I also ordered a beer and was told that it would be added to my bill. No problem. Server came, took our order. Food was just ok! When I got the bill the drink was not included. Doing the right thing, I brought it to their attention and paid the difference in cash. They thanked me for my honesty and away we went. Upon arrival at home, I checked the charge on my credit card and found that they over charged me an odd amount, so I called to address the issue. The explanation I was given is that their CC machines are very old and that they over charge for some reason to make sure there are adequate funds and that the charge will self correct by the next day. TOTALLY unacceptable! This place has so much more potential and with some minor changes could make a big difference. Its my hope that the management takes this as constructive criticism and its reflected in positive change.
Manor restaurant: great views, nice attentive waitress, lousy food. Point bar and restaurant: bad attitude of bartender from the minute we walked in. We were her only customers and she didnt want to be bothered. Served us a drink then walked by us 10 minutes later telling us the bar was closing and the chef would be turning out the lights! It was only 10pm.
Went to the Elton John tribute show. Ordered my tickets in May. Checked the venue map and ordered tickets. Upon arrival, I learned that the map did not match and I had horrible seats, from which the entire stage was blocked by the speakers. I checked the map while there, and noticed that it was now different then I remember and that they sold 39 seats that had an obstructed view. Some poor couple sat right infront of a support pole and could not see even a glimpse of the show. The performer Jeff Scott even made a comment about the poor view that sude of the room had. Anyone in that area, if not obstructed only was able to see his back.Luckily a very nice lady who original showed us to our table, offered to relocate us once the show started if better seats were available. Well she came through and we had a delightful time. I did not get the ladies name, but she saved the night. Now for the concert. Jeff Scott as Elton John was very good. He started a few minutes late, and took a 20 minute costume change break about 45 to 50 minutes in to the show. We did not like his rendition of Rocketman, but the rest was very good, and he had everyone going during Crocodile Rock. Over all a good show, but definetly could have played more songs. We will be back the next time he performs.

2022-05-17We visited just a week or two before the open season. It was pleasantly quiet. Our room was facing the St Lawrence river seaway where freighters can be seen quietly cruising into or away from the Great lakes or Atlantic ocean. *The hotel resort doesnt have an elevator so, getting your luggage in a room might be a challenge to some individuals. However, its a wonderful place. *It is showing some age to the building but THE LOCATION IS PERFECT.

2022-05-29Really great location, within walking distance to bars, restaurants and small grocery stores. Awesome place for a wedding too. Was great to stumble 100 back to my room. Cant give 5 stars though as the room smelled strong of mildew, and there was a ton of ants in the bathroom.Would recommend staying here if that doesnt matter to you.

2022-04-02For a room less than $100 WITH not just a jacuzzi tub but an actual honeymoon tub you really couldnt go wrong! We have a fantastic view of the river from our window and front sitting area... Staff was very friendly and helpful as well. Could use an update but totally had a great time!!

2022-05-18Positive: We were pleased that the desk staff remembered us as I had left my hearing aids there on a previous visit. We loved the riverview room. As it is an older property the rooms are spacious. We also enjoyed happy hour on the river deck. Negative: No.

2021-11-19I came here with my husband for a military ball and got a room so that we wouldn’t have to drive back home late at night. After reading the negative reviews, I was a bit skeptical of the place, but I know that everybody has different experiences, so I decided to give it a try anyway. And I’ll be honest, I was actually pretty positively impressed! The ladies at the front desk were super nice and friendly and the room was actually not bad at all! We had a room with the view on the castle and a jacuzzi in the bathroom. I’ll admit some pieces of furniture are a bit outdated and should be upgraded, but it didn’t bother either of us and we still considered it a great stay! The jacuzzi was pretty cool, the bed was firm but not uncomfortable-firm. Don’t expect a 5 star hotel, because it’s not, but I think it’s worth visiting and spending the night! At the ball we also had dinner and the food was amazing!!We both enjoyed our stay here and hope to come back some day!

2022-06-14Rooms are filthy, bathroom disgusting, windows dirty. My wife got sick and we asked to leave early. We had booked 3 nights and they refused to refund any money 400.00 lost. No apologies. They were not busy as it was midweek. Buyer Beware!! These people are not nice. Also the restaurant was not open but we were not told that ahead of time. This place is a dump. BUYER BEWARE. Rivers Edge Hotel is right next door and is beautiful with a friendly staff and great restaurant. We would recommend staying there.

2021-12-05The jacuzzi tub jets didnt work in our room, there wasnt a microwave and the TV was quite blurry. Also, in order to get to the pool you had to go outside and across a parking lot to the other building..not convenient especially in winter. The rooms were spacious and had a small kitchen area with bar stools. The beds were Comfy and theres a balcony which I appreciated. Overall, I would stay again but not for long periods of time.

2022-06-26Old...needs serious renovation for all rooms and the grounds are unkempt. They seem to do their best to keep it clean but there are holes in the ceiling. The rooms dont feel safe (easy entry), cable tv is poor. The hotels restaurant, The Pointe had excellent service, great view and good food.

2022-05-25I do not recommend Bonnie Castle Resort and Marina in Alexandria Bay NY. Its a dump, the outside of the building is filthy and bugs cover the room doors. As you walk in they go in with you. The floors are laminate, the furniture is broken and there is no blanket on the beds, just sheets. You will be yelled at when you check in especially if you have a pet with you. You will be told that if the pet damages anything they will charge you $150 and you better come back with both keys or else. Stay far, far away from this resort its simply the worst experience we have ever had. In fact, we checked in and an hour later left. What a dump! 😡

2022-06-20This is a tough review to write. The view of the St. Lawrence River and Boldt Castle are amazing. The property could be spectacular because of its location and unique features. But sadly the whole “resort” needs a serious glow up and none of the staff seemed to care much. Part of the problem here is the price. If the rooms were $100 a night then the price and what you got would be even. For $200+ a night you hope to have a decent 3 star place to stay.We came for a wedding and stayed here because of that. Adding the terms castle and resort in the name are not quite accurate. I’d say it’s more like a very large, retro motel. Don’t get me wrong, not everything needs to be fancy or 5 star to be good but you always hope to stay in properties that are cared for. A newer holiday inn express or home to suites would be a huge upgrade to the room we had. This place is definitely retro and they could make it work for them. But some updates, basic grounds keeping, and repairs such as fixing hardware and fixtures so they would properly could add a lot of perceived value into the rooms. The pluses on top of the views are that the rooms were generally clean. Plenty of towels and clean linens on the bed. This place is pet friendly for a nightly fee so bringing a companion is always nice. The food is pretty good for a wedding, event or I am also told dinner. It is surrounded by water and docks so you can bring your boat and rent a transient slip if you need. The rooms are a decent size and I think most include a working fridge. The bed was a decent size but it was extremely creeky so if you are a light sleeper bring some ear plugs. The property is also large if you are traveling with a large group. Some suggestions for the management, turn off the lights late at night that are attached to the rooms, make them motion censored or something. The bugs are attracted to the lights and way too many end up in guest rooms. Understandable you get some near the water but it seemed like nothing was done to try and help this situation. For $200+ a night you should add more than one bar of soap and some toiletries in the rooms. You guys aren’t spending much on renovation or maintaining the property so it’s the least you could do. If there is an outdoor wedding you need to have someone sweep off the deck and wipe down/ clean the chairs before the ceremony. The bride was fortunate enough to have family who checked and did the cleaning before the ceremony. We asked the front desk for a broom and we were told to find a groundskeeper. We are considering sending you an invoice for our work on your property. If you need to stay there are some newer rooms which are attached to the main building and have jacuzzi’s. Try and get yourself one of those or try another spot in Clayton.
