Friendly people working in the shop. Nice big shop with plenty of records and cassettes. Good ambience and the AC was great. The owner bought some of my records and directed me to where I should sell my record player and cassette player. They were super courteous. Overall it was a great experience.
I wrote this review a few weeks back, but Im consolidating all of my reviews into on Google email account. In my younger days I would cull through the CDs at all the local shops. Now I’m older and wiser and just go to the Bop Shop. They’ve got it all and very knowledgeable. They even have a very good opera selection and people who can help with that—rare in these shops. Well done.
Very nice record store! They have a lot of great stuff showcased too. I really liked the Beatles and Jimi Hendrix displays, with valuable records being showcased to purchase, as well as other related stuff. This place is also filled to the BRIM with records. Of course, you have a wide selection of more popular records, but if youre feeling adventurous you can explore the back area where there lies more records than I can comprehend. My only complaint is there isnt much of a Hip-Hop selection, but other than that everything was well organized, and the staff were very friendly.
Visiting Rochester for the weekend, I decided to give the Bop Shop a chance as opposed to House of Guitars or Record Archive. What I found was a greatly curated collection of new and used records, and an incredibly knowledge staff. The store is well organized, and the staff is super helpful in locating any hard to find titles. I will definitely be back.
The quality of the used vinyl is better than other outlets, the pricing is reasonable, the selection is very good (ask if you don’t see it) and the owner Tom is a great guy with great stories and a memory and knowledge base to complement any search. The rest of the crew are equally adept. The whole experience is a pleasure.
I was on a business trip in Rochester, NY and in my free time I wanted to buy some records. The first place I went was Record Archive but I was disappointed. I went back to my hotel and searched for another record store. The small Bop Shop got my attention. When I got there I told the owner I was looking for jazz records. He told me not bother with anything in the front and he took me to the basement. Oh my God! I was crying when I saw so many original Blue Notes. I spent a lot of money that day! They are shipping all of the records to me in Kansas City. Customer service was great and I wish them many years of success. Thanks!
Tom has a great store for collectors of all kinds. He is personable and has a classic record store owner vibe. He will find the tough to find titles for you in his vast, constantly updated, and diverse store catalogue. If you are passing through rochester make this your first record store stop!
I would like to say that this is by far the best record shop and the best experience I’ve ever had. I went in looking for an album that was a childhood memory and favorite. Tom had his guy look for it in the back and surprisingly came out with the original album. I was just speechless. There is nothing better than seeing an original Self titled album of Black Sabbath in it’s rare form on Halloween. Thank you, Tom and everyone that works there for finding this!

2022-04-28My favorite spot to buy vinyl in Rochester. Tom has a fantastic, varied selection that spans genres and decades. Looking for something obscure? This is your place. Even better - Tom is a great, welcoming guy who also brings great live shows to the area.

2022-04-24This is one of the premier music stores in the North towns. A great selection of new and used records. The selection was fabulous. All the employees were very helpful and the store was cleans and well organized. I will visit again.Frank

2022-05-21Love Bop Shop! If you want to escape the commercial feel of record stores in 2022, go here. While there are new releases available, this record shop is full of used records from almost every genre of music. I got the Herbie Hancock LP I was searching for! The employees are there to help and give solid recommendations if requested.

2022-01-22Ive known Tom for at least 30 years. For a while I think one of our mutual friends was putting Toms kids through college! I try to support Tom as best I can and will gladly steer people his way. Im not a vinyl person. So I go pouring through the used Jazz and Rock CDs. Tom tips me off on stuff Ill probably like. He hasnt been wrong yet.

2022-03-14To my experience Bop Shop is a treasure. I dont usually read reviews because theyre populated with cranks...I was pleasantly disabused of that notion until I came upon Cindy, whining about being asked to wear a mask. Pleeeease....

2021-11-20A gem of a shop, stocking a deep and vast variety of vinyl and CD recordings (plus some 45s and 78s!): jazz, blues, rock, classical, soundtracks, world ethnic musics and more. They also present jazz, folk and blues concerts in-store. Knowledgeable and committed staff; did I mention that the place is a gem? 😊

2022-01-22Even though there are no laws requiring individuals to wear masks in stores, I was approached by an employee here and asked to put one on. I told them I would rather not and they were fine with me leaving. I was not near anyone and was quietly looking at records when I was approached. This is both poor customer service and discriminatory! I will never spend a penny at this business.

2020-08-15This place is awesome! I recently moved to the area from NYC so I’m still discovering new places to buy records. Of course everyone talks about Record Archive which is a great place but I happened upon Bop Shop accidentally about a month ago and it’s been my go-to ever since. The selection there is the best around! Every time I’m there I find something I’ve been hunting down for a while. Even got me an original pressing of London Calling in FANTASTIC condition last time I was there. Staff is very helpful and welcoming as well.
