Visited with family and kids, everyone loved this place. The hospitality and service was very good. The food was excellent. We ordered a diverse selection of food and drinks, and we liked everything, especially the lobster roll and chowder. Will definitely return on our next trip to the Hamptons. Highly recommend this place.
On August 1, I ordered the hot lobster roll for take out. While it was being prepared, I asked the server for a sample of the clam and roasted corn chowder. They were both mediocreThe lobster roll was bland. The cole slaw was good.I will be back to try more foods because most of the other reviewers including professional food critics rave about this place. For now, Bostwick’s gets two stars.
This place is delicious and a local favorite. It has outside/inside seating. Ill have to come back to make certain its 5 stars. We tried the tuna poke tacos (a bit more then I want to pay per taco), soft shell crab, and some chowders (lobster bisque and New England clam). All the food was great! We came during a calmer time of the season but the service was still mixed. I expect it might be slow during peak season.
My fiancé and I are in Montauk for the weekend and couldn’t find a spot in the area that had fish tacos or good reviews for the restaurant. Everything seems really spotty since COVID. We browsed for 20 minutes until we found Bostwick’s over in east Hampton and every recent review was top notch. We placed our order and picked it up in 25 minutes.Legit, our food was so good we ate it in the car and was the best meal of the weekend! Here’s what we ordered:Baha Fish Tacos- a m a z i n g !!! The fish was fried to perfection and the corn slaw was delishShrimp Cocktail - classic and super freshLobster Fritters - these were good, crispy and packed with lots of lobster piecesCoconut Shrimp Spring Rolls - if you love coconut shrimp, you NEED to try these! Served with a side of sweet chili sauce. Perfection! Can’t wait for our next trip back here:)
Came here with my wife on our anniversary weekend, and honestly it was really good. The shell fish was very fresh, and the fish tacos were moderately sized.Calamari and fried fish tacos ware very good but the batter was a little greasy.I had the blackened mahi mahi tacos and mine was really good. Most places in Montauk this time of year are closed until May apparently but bostwicks was opened and were glad they were. All in all it was a good comfortable place and the staff was very welcoming.Would recommend of your looking for quality seafood in the area.
Bostwick’s is incredible! Pickup or eat in, this place is the best. I highly recommend the muscles, baked clams, fried shrimp, seafood pasta, crab cake and spring rolls. The seafood pasta is creamy and fresh. The baked clams are soft yet crunchy. I could go on and on about this place!Wait times can be long. Pickup took 2 hours. Also expensive (but worth it)
Bostwicks Chowder House never disappoints. Well prepared seafood fresh and always delicious. If you need a plate and silverware go some else and youll definitely get less for more. The Baked Stuffed Clams are my rock star item along with the Baja Fish Tacos and Fish & Chips.
Tucked away on Montauk Highway is Bostwicks. Im sure in season; they have a line around the building, but there appears to be ample space for comfortable outdoor seating. However, we hurried in the week before they took their holiday hiatus. Seated in a cozy corner by the hearth was most welcome on a crisp November Saturday. We began with an assortment of appetizers, including their famed clam chowder~creamy, memorable, and flavorful; clams on the half shell ~chilled on ice and perfect in size for a mouthwatering bite, crispy fritters with a sweet chili sauce on the side, and grilled to perfection, octopus~crispy edges with tender centers. Each was freshly prepared and delicious. We continued with fresh local flounder, juicy burger, and fries, and a Lobster Roll. Sensational lobster roll packed with a nice mix of lobster seasonings and mayo. We decided to share a yummy dessert; and were so excited to enjoy an excellent summer~esq meal on a night cold enough to snow. Bostwicks a cozy tummy warmer and will melt your heart!
This is a casual place that serves food in paper plates and plastic cutlery. The clam chowder was heavy on the Italian seasoning so you couldnt taste the the clams. It was a little too thick for my taste. The mussels were great that even my 3 year old liked it so much she had the whole thing. The flounder stuffed with crab was great. The fish tacos were great. I would pass on the fried fishermans platter. It was heavily weighted with fried clam strip and fried batter. There was only one piece of oyster and two shrimps. The fried fish was a fried filet which was a little dry in my opinion. Overall, still good food and good service.
Exploring and found a treasure. Unique atmosphere nautically decor with good eats and fresh sea food. Arrived 5:15 on a Tuesday easy park no lines no wait. Friendly service, prompt and efficient. 2 of us share stuffed baked clams, (came 4 lrg.) calamari & steamers the real deal Ipswich clams. Love it all. Must try place, at our exist at 6:45. There was a line waiting and cars parked all along the road.
Its a nice place with friendly staff and good service. Their lobster rolls and burgers are fantastic. The chicken sandwich is good, but if they would swap out the mozzarella for some better cheese it would be great. It gets busy often, so arrive early or plan on some type of wait.
We ate here for the first time & we absolutely loved it! Our waitress, Jean, was so nice, attentive, & super helpful with recommendations! To drink we had “The Crusher” which was so tasty! We ordered the New England clam chowder, the baked clams, and the Baja fish tacos! Everything was absolutely delicious!! We would order those again & we will definitely be back next time we’re in town! A home run if you’re looking for a place to eat!
Had stuffed crabs for an appetizer which which was full of chunks of crab meat. The fluke special was fantastic, comes topped with a salad which was nice and light addition to the meal. Clam chowder was ok, Id say I prefer creamier clam chowder over this one but is definitely still flavorful. Also split the fish tacos, went with the tuna which was also delicious.
Great eats, great service, good vibe.Legit place for the family to go outside and eat. Nice place to watch a sporting event indoors at the bar. Robby the bartender is on point! Can get crowded but worth the wait.I recommend a mix of the chowder, baked clams, and the grilled chicken sandwich!!
Food was phenomenal. Best lobster roll with butter! Our waitress Jean was spot on, so friendly, always there when we needed her. Place seems to get very crowded by 1pm, we were there at 12 and got seated right away. Staff managed busyness very well, with a parking attendant keeping names and car models to call when tables were ready. Impressive!
Ive been here a few times and the food is pretty good. Unfortunately and likely due to Covid, the prices have jumped up so it is somewhat cost prohibitive during tougher economic times. The chowders are good, excellent fish tacos as well (although pricey $22-$27 for two fish tacos).. The only thing I was thrilled with was a fried oyster sandwich that was kind of messy and gooey. The fried batter didnt stay on well and it was just kind of all over the place.
Decent seafood, good service. Staff was friendly enough and generally helpful. There was something just off though, where they almost didnt seem to want to be helpful. Not sure but it was probably just an off day or something happened recently. We all have days like that, and they said and did all the right things which is the most important part. You could tell that there has been staff training and that sets them apart from many places. The food was okay, not great. Apps were better than average, and the chowder was solid. Unfortunately something was off about one of the fish tacos we had in an entree. We ended up returning most of the plate. On mentioning it there was no real inquiry or follow up which seemed truly inconsistent.Id go again, but kind of off fish tacos for awhile, which is unfortunate as I used to love them.Definitely a stretch to go to 4 stars based on this visit, but I can see underpinnings of greatness here and Im sure they will continue to do well and deserve the benefit of the doubt.
Ill admit, good chowder, although Ive had better but thats it here! Too bad really, considering all the good reviews, I was expecting an amazing experience. Waitress brought out burnt bread to the point were I smelled it before even seeing the black crust, we sent it back, only for it to be recycled and sent back to our table! Shocking that no one in the kitchen caught this!! Very off putting, so you can safely assume that they probably do this often here. Tacos were dry and bland. The flounder in the seafood platter was dry and lacked seasoning. My 14 year old son said he would have eaten his fish if it just had salt and pepper added to it. On the positive, the lobster roll was very good. Expensive meal for such an underwhelming experience.
A bit out of the way but the food was fantastic. Stuffed lobster was solid with little filler. The various chowders were excellent and not overly spicy. Market price for a party of four can be high but for this meal it was worth it! The waitresses and the manager working that day were really attentive and made a big difference. Worth the visit.
Busy loud atmosphere is great for kids. Long wait so prepare for that. Our food was all delicious. Lobster fritters were fried well although perhaps a bit higher stuffing to lobster ratio than I would like. Childrens fish and chips were quite good and the portion was reasonable. Tuna poke tacos were fantastic. Star of the show was lobster clam bake. Ask for some bread to sop up the broth. Get over the fact that they have plastic utensils, it adds to the beach theme.
Good food and service. Gets rowdy around the bar if youre up for it 😉. A lot of local characters make this their regular hangout. Dont get offended if their entrees arrive before yours, even if you ordered first. All diners are made to feel welcome, some more than others. Be nice, tip well and if you return often enough, youll be treated special too.
The last time I went to Bostwicks was at their old location the better part of a decade ago. That location had a much nicer view, but I didnt recall the food being all that remarkable. I feel like maybe they relied on the view to attract customers back then. Without that crutch, this place seems to have really embraced making top notch seafood instead. The flounder I had was amazing, as were the coconut spring rolls. The wait was insane, but we were fortunately able to eat at the bar pretty quickly. Im definitely going to go back... wish Id given the new location a shot years ago.
At the end of the summer, it seemed that I hadnt been to the end of the Island and hadnt had any great seafood in a long time, so I set sail to Bostwicks Chowder House based mostly on location and its Yelp reviews.I was very impressed. Although it was very busy, a table outside under a large tree was available right away. You place your order by filling out a form on a clipboard that the waitress comes to collect. I liked this feature because it made sure the order was correct.I had the Fried Oyster Po Boy, an ear of corn, and a cup of the clam chowder -- all of which I would highly recommend. The Po Boy was a special, so I dont know if its available everyday. The oysters had some wonderful butter and herb sauce that was inside the fried breading which made them very, very succulent and tasty. There were so many oysters that I couldnt add my coleslaw to the sandwich as I normally would, but I cant complain because of how delicious it was.I also tried the chicken sandwich, which is one of the few items on the menu for those of you who do not like seafood. Without hyperbole, it was one of the best chicken sandwiches Ive had. It wasnt just a token dish for non-seafood people, it was a great dish in its own right.
We started with the lump crab meat appetizer special, it was excellent. My wife and I shared the lobster tacos, two huge tacos stuffed with lobster, and the lobster salad BLT. If you never had a lobster salad BLT you havent lived. My wife had the blood orange margarita, she loved it. Everyone was very nice and fast service. Will go back for the chowder.
My friends and I stopped to get some drinks. We did get a little bit too many drinks and it was amazing. The bar tender was a conversationalist and kept the drinks coming. After feeling a bit lightheaded we ordered some fries which did us wonders and shortly after we ordered another round. We do enjoy drinking and the variety here were just tempting to try. They have something for everyone. Stop by with a friend.
Arrogant wait staff. First we received a rude comment of how we were ordering a light lunch. We ordered clam chowder, onion rings and little neck clams. Didnt like the fact that my husband who has severe food allergies ordered little neck clams, due to the fact that there would no cross contamination, as they were raw. He ate the clams, and then took out his supplemental food. The waiter then came by and was completely rude and arrogant citing a made up policy that no outside food is allowed in the restaurant. Nowhere was that policy posted. Then we were made to finish our meal quickly, so they could make their money on someone else. Ruined an otherwise nice day on the area. Will never go back.
Off the beaten path, and a great recommendation from the staff during our short time at the Wolffer Wine Stand. We drove by it at first, but then circled back, we were so happy we did! We had the lobster bisque, clam chowder, sword fish sandwich special and calamari. Our favorite was the clam chowder, amazing! Everything was delicious! The outside area was great during our wait for a table, and great for dining. Everyone was friendly, great service. Cant wait to go back!
Had lunch here during our last visit to the Hamptons. Its nice to sit outside and enjoy the people and cars going by. The food is very good. Fish is always fresh and the menu is extensive. Try the lobster fritters for an appetizer. Gets very busy early and parking is limited.
The food was very good; some of our selections were great. We found the service to be extremely friendly, but we understand, given how badly weve seen much of the clientele treat the service staff, how the servers could become frustrated. They were very kid-friendly, and even allowed our children to make their own sundaes. They helped us encourage our picky eaters to try new food. We were treated as valued guests, despite being obvious tourists. We will come back - maybe this week!
Sunday evening, cold weather so seating outdoor wasnt an option. Busy night, and our wait was less than stated. Excellent Fish Tacos, super fresh & light. My Moms Lobster Fritters(Special Appetizer) were delicious and Dads Cheeseburger cooked to perfection. Our server, Margot was super sweet and very attentive! Id definitely recommend Bostwicks for anyone who wants FRESH Seafood at fabulous prices in the Hamptons!!!
I dont know why this place is so popular. Its an overpriced tourist trap. The lobster roll was greasy and no comparison to the one at The Lobster Roll which is the real deal. Staff was unfriendly (e.g., claimed to have no outdoor seating left, but when we looked we found an empty table.) Avoid, there are better places for seafood.
Stopped while traveling with a dog and had a little back-of-car picnic. Tried one of each lobster roll (lobster salad with mayo and hot buttered lobster), the New England clam chowder, and lobster bisque. All were great but the buttered lobster roll was fantastic. I’d drive out there again just for that.
I love this place. I love the food and the atmosphere. But, there is a but: due to a specific classification of the building they cannot use regular dishes and glasses. Everything has to be disposable. Hate that. Shame on you, Town of East Hampton. The result is an enormous waste of plastic and paper plates and plastic containers. There is an additional twist: technically the waitress cannot take your order. You have to fill out your own order on a menu and they just collect it. It is an insanely asinine system. It is not Bostwick’s fault but the result is truly stupid
This is one of the best, most authentic restaurants in the Hamptons! My husband and I came here 6 years ago for the first time and have been coming back since then. This past Sunday we came to celebrate our one year anniversary and Lisa and Chris gave us the loveliest surprise at the end of our meal. The food is super fresh, high-quality, and super consistent. We had the baked clams, chowder, and whole lobsters. Also make sure you save room for the key lime pie, it’s unreal! Enjoy your visit :)
Food is good, but overpriced. People very friendly. You couldnt fully enjoy your meal with the cheapest plastic fork and knife, they are so soft that it is hard to handle. Not worth the money we paid. The entrees in the photo are $29 each. What do you see? We saw cold faces!
Everything was medium. Did a back to back challenge (eating the same things, 2 nights in a row at 2 different restaurants). This place lost to The Lobster Roll for NE clam chowder and hot lobster roll. Both slightly overcook the lobster, but taste was way better at the other place.
The fish tacos, chowder specialties and lobster options are incredible. OPTIONS is the name of the game for this place. The lack of consistency in ambiance throughout this restaurant is actually a plus. Very unique opportunities of deliciousness and seating options in here. From the soft serve ice cream...what??? To the outdoor patio to the indoor seating to the bar which is proximity wise part of this apace but seems has a separate vibe on its own. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. If it werent for the inconsistent freshness of the littleneck clams or the lump crab meat from Florida as opposed to Maryland, it would have gotten 5 stars.
We love the food and cocktails here...LOVE.....but the shear amount of single-use plastic they use for every single meal they serve has made it depressing to go. They claim to have a carry out only permit, according to our server, so thats why they dont have a dishwasher on the premises, so every meal they serve has multiple plastic dishes, lids, bowls, glasses, etc..... Theres just got to be another way. We wont be back and well discourage anyone else from going, despite the great food.
The bartender is so rude and incompetent. He denies orders? He is losing your business money. He is slow and does not have any work ethic. I live around here and I come here often but I cannot accept this kind of service at the bar. I will go spend my money somewhere where the bartender can take orders. Useless. Food is great which is why there are still two stars on your rating.
Finally, a real success in the space once occupied by the dearly loved and sorely missed Snow Flake! This place--with a sizeable outdoor area shaded by bright market umbrellas--is almost always hopping, and the entire staff is great. There is also a convivial bar scene and indoor tables for those days when Mother Nature does not cooperate. And oh, yeah. Dont miss the eponymous chowder and the hot, buttered lobster roll! All around, you will be glad for Bostwicks.
Bostwicks Clambakes and Catering was the best choice to cater our small covid wedding in East Hampton. Debbie and her team provided such a stress free day with amazing food and service. When we met with Debbie to make our menu she offered knowledgeable advice on dishes and very helpful suggestions. I truly could not be happier with the decision to cater with Bostwicks
Extremely rude staff. We waited on line for 15 min only to be told we have to call to place an order take out. There were several customers waiting outside( in the waiting area) for their orders and at one point an employee came outside shouting to the customers “what is going on out here”. Other than the staff there, great place!
Overrated, but Im an Aussie. Heard great things about this place, but in my opinion its just average. The server was disinterested-, but the kicker was the cost of the lobster roll..$30 USD..thats right..I just dont get the hype about lobster..average taste, crazy price
Stopped here for a quick bite with my friend on the way back West from Montauk. Its still technically the off-season, so there werent *too* many choices. All the same, Bostwicks hit the spot. The lobster roll is LOADED with lobster, and the fish tacos were next level good (albeit a bit overstuffed, but I mark that as a good problem to have). They price point is pretty standard for the area, making this a solid choice with great outdoor seating for when the weathers right.
Friends were asked to leave this establishment today. As they waited the 30 minutes, they got a buzzer. Another family walked in a got the same time and a buzzer. The other family went to the bar and were handed a current buzzer and the hostess prepared to seat them. My friends complained. The family graciously gave them the table. The hostess devolved into tears. My friends, now seated, were asked to leave because they upset the hostess. ASKED TO LEAVE’ Or, maybe it was because black people are welcome in the restaurant. Shame on you!
This is the second time in a week that I have eaten at bostwicks because it is that good. The clam chowder is superb, fish and chips were delish, the arugula salad with grilled shrimp fabulous, fish tacos awesome, service is friendly and prompt and the prices are reasonable.
If I could give zero stars that is the rating I would provide. This was my second visit to the restaurant. It is always busy due to the possibility of a good sunset. The food is vastly subpar because of the view. They take no reservations so we were forced to wait. Our group of 5 had 5 drinks. We were a group of two couples and one individual. No other alcohol was consumed before the visit or during the visit. Each group paid for their drink. In other words, I paid for my girlfriend, my friend paid for his girlfriend, and the single guy paid for his own. The drinks were about $20 each; therefore stupid expensive. Two of the three of us paid for the drinks at the time of purchase. One person kept his tab open. The LOST his card. The bartenders became very defensive very fast. He cursed them. They screamed back. I believe they were also drinking. It became a scene. We discovered the bar tenders had kept my card (wrong card) and given my friends card back to me. They were nearly identical AMEX cards. Easy mistake to make I suppose. Instead of apologizing, they ended up billing me for 4 drinks because of the mistake. I paid a $6 tip on one bill and none on the other due to their problems and their attitude. That really made them mad! I went to the manager (a fat little man with a silly goatee/mustache) and nicely explained I had to pay for my friends drinks (no big deal). He then proceeded to tell me he was siding with his people in the matter and was a total jerk. I suppose this is what happens when you have enough business so you no longer have to care about the customer. Everyone agreed they were in the wrong and made the mistake. I told him I would never return. Now I have to call AMEX and fix their problem. This is not a place that has good food or customer service. Find a McDonalds with a view looking west. Your experience will be better with both the food and the service.
Really disappointed with this place. seems all the positive reviews are left by friends, and their local network. from the moment we walk in the door we were greeted by an unfriendly hostess. our server was impossible to track down. From trying to place our order to the time she gave us our bill we had to find someone to get her for us. never gave us a smile. not at all friendly. food is ok but i would put up with less than ok food for a little hostpitality. i would get better service at a gas station. dont believe the positive reviews you are not going to have a pleasant experience here UNLESS you are famous.
I have been there multiple times and it has good food and drinks, which is why I returned... However, tonight we arrived and told the lady we needed a table for 3 (2 adults and a 3 year old toddler- who I was clearly holding)... After waiting 20 min (which was not an issue) she sat us at a high top table with bar stools..... Ummmmm not the most friendly seating arrangement for a toddler. I stood and held him for the first 10 minutes waiting for our waitress before I thought it was ridiculous to stand holding my son just so I could eat dinner. When the waitress arrived we said we had to go because my son wasnt able to sit at this table safely. She stared at us, said ok, and walked away. .bottom line, they need a lesson on seating people appropriately.

2022-05-17Casual and cool spot with good food and EXCELLENT service. Everyone was super-sweet, from the hostess who offered me a hoodie because we ate outside and I was cold, to our waitress and everyone in-between.The food came out fast on paper plates with plastic cutlery, not a big deal, since the quality of food was very good, and the beer fresh and cold. They must have a very efficient kitchen, because the restaurant was packed. The inside looks great, the outdoor space is very pretty and manicured. The bathroom needed a wipe, but the place was bustling with people, so I’d cut them a little slack. Will visit again.

2022-06-24From service to food, this place was a relaxing and fun experience through and through. The lobster bisque is a must have, $10 for a hearty soup is an absolute steal! The baked clams are large, delicious, and worth the price. Lemon puts these on another level. Lastly the Fish and Chips are a staple, high quality fries and delicious hot fish. Would easily come back here again, great lunch spot for friend groups and families.

2022-07-02The food was so good that we went twice. They don’t take reservations it’s first come first serve. When we showed up there was no line we got in right away. I recommend sitting outside. The drinks were ok I got the sangria it was just bla, but the food makes up for it so who cares. Service was great and staff was wonderful love this place.

2021-07-31Nice place to eat overall. Though the food lacked seasoning for my taste, it wasnt bad. For appetizers we ordered oysters 1/2 shell, fried oysters, coconut shrimp spring rolls. The fried oysters were surprisingly my favorite with the corn salsa that accompanied it. The spring rolls were really greasy, as if it was double fried but tasty. Our main dishes included the crab stuffed flounder, seafood pasta, and hot butter lobster roll. The flounder and pasta needed seasoning or a little more salt. We sat outdoors and staff were friendly.

2022-04-24Based on the reviews, I had really high expectations from this place. New England clam chowder was like a soup..watery and almost no clams mostly potatoes. There are two lobster rolls. Butter one was ehh, but the lobster salad one was really really good. Also ordered fish and chips... Do not order fish and chips! I would have given 3 stars but we got creeped out from one of the worker with long hair there. He kept looking at our table. We sat in the corner by the window and he was just keep staring. First I thought nothing of it but then he went outside just to stare at us. TWICE. He thought he was being sneaky but it was just weird.

2021-09-04Came here at dinner time and waited for almost 1.5 hours for a table of 7 outdoor. The food was good, came very quickly. Fried food (fish and chips and clam strips) tastes very fresh. They dont accept reservation so make sure to be here early enough to secure a seat.

2022-05-18Nice little spot along the way to Montauk lighthouse. Food wasn’t to bad. I’ve had better clam chowder. A little to much oil in the shrimp scampi.

2021-09-27I was surprised that the Pinot Grigio came in a plastic cup. And doubly surprised that every dish was in a disposable container. The lobster bisque and fried calamari appetizers were good. The fish (of fish and chips) was slightly burnt. Seafood pasta had too much penne pasta, making it difficult to fish the seafood out of the paper bowl. Our server was friendly and helpful.

2021-08-09Brought my family to Bostwick’s for lunch and had a lovely time. We sat on the charming outdoor patio. Some menu standouts are the Famous Buttered Lobster Roll and whole lobster.
