Theyre showing at 10:00 p.m. when a lot of other places arent so that earns some points in my book. Parking is not as convenient as Rotterdam. You can use the nearby parking garage without paying, however, after 6:00 p.m. you dont need to validate you can just leave the ticket in the car and go catch the movie.
Not a bad place. Visited on a Tuesday. Prices a little cheaper. If I had something to say negative was there seemed to be an odor in theater 3. Seemed like the carpet needed some refreshing or the seats. Maybe a person with bad BO just left. It wasnt unbearable. On the beginning of needs attention. Staff was excellent and knew what they were doing.
Brought my clients here a couple of times and its a pretty good theater. I had a bit of a hard time purchasing tickets because I need separate bills and receipts, so checkout took a bit long because the cashier wasnt seeming to understand. Soap dispensers were empty and the paper towel dispensers before and after the movie. Otherwise was clean and the theater itself was big and comfortable. Parking is hard to find.
It was a long wait to get tickets even though there were only 3 ppl in line ahead of us. The kiosk to purchase tickets without waiting in line wasnt working either and there was no one to ask for help since the only staff in sight was running the ticket booth and it took a long time as I said. Also, when buying popcorn 🍿 one had to go to one of 2 butter machines to put your own butter on it. Which in one way was good as we could control the amount of butter to put on our popcorn. However, there wasnt any hand sanitizer near the stations to use which would be key since everyone touches the same butter machine handle. This is not a good flaw to have at this time. But, the theater 🎥 was clean as was the bathroom, and the one staff we dealt with was pleasant, otherwise, my rating would have been worse!
The volume of the movie shown is so incredibly loud, it HURTS. This not only makes the movie very unpleasant to see, but will cause permanent damage to your hearing. Ive experienced this twice now within one month; first in mid December of 2019, next in early January 2020. The first time this happened it hurt so much I had to finally leave the movie halfway through in order to ask the staff to lower the volume and they did, adjusting it to a normal level. Of course Id missed a lot of the film. But I caught up on the plot and figured this had just been a one time mistake of the theaters.Yet when I went back a month later to see a different film I found it was to be played in the very same room at that theater. The ticket seller reassured me that theyd fixed the volume problem there. So, I went into that film room and immediately the volume of the commercials was blasting my eardrums out. I left and asked the next ticket seller to please adjust/lower the volume as I couldnt see a movie that really hurt my ears as I tried to watch it. A member of the management was standing right there and she said they would do so immediately. I went back into the film room and the volume was just as loud. Okay. So, I went back AGAIN to the ticket seller and asked for my money back because it hurt to see the movie so I wouldnt be able to see it. He wouldnt give my money back. He told me that management was currently fixing that problem and to go try the theater room again. AGAIN? I started to go back to the theater room again (having already lost my seat there twice now) and then realized this was too awful to have to deal with in the first place. So I returned to my place in line once more to get to the ticket seller again and request my money back a second time. The ticket seller told me that management would come down to return my money, and I needed to step to one side to wait for them. Step to one side? So that I could watch him sell more tickets to other victims (with little kids!) whod have their hearing permanently damaged just to see a film? I would not step to one side. So THEN management came down and returned my ticket price payment for a great movie I never got to see one second of because this theater was so terrible.
Great pricing on tickets, good food selection and nice people, clean theatres and a nice sitting area. Their food prices are a pain for a college student, but thats how it goes- bathrooms are clean, and its in a convenient location. With friends or alone, Id recommend it.
The prices aren’t too crazy here is you go during the day! Parking is free at the parking ramp across the street so that was nice. Walking in, the theater was nice and clean. The people working at the concessions counter were nice and prompt. The food you can get there (besides the popcorn and candy) was pretty decent for a movie theater. We got the sliders to share since we were a little hungry and wanted something more filling than popcorn and they were okay. The sound was a little quiet during the movie but nothing that was detrimental to the experience. The seats were comfy as well. Not as nice as some newer places with recliners but then again you’re paying an arm and a leg to go to these places. At the end of the day it was a better than average experience and will probably be back when there is a movie we’d like to see.
I love this theatre! They have discount movie tickets every tuesday! And the concession staff members were so nice, me and my BF were there celebrating our 10 year anniversary & were the last ones out so they gave us a huge bag of popcorn for free!!! They definitely didnt have to do that, it was very nice of them. But even besides that I love this theatre because the fair prices
Really frustrating experience at this movie theater this evening. Id been before and it was fine, nothing outstanding but a solid experience. This time was outstandingly bad. There was an issue with the projector I noticed as soon as previews started. The video was slightly out of focus. I checked with another group of moviegoers to make sure I hadnt suddenly developed vision problems. No problem, I went and told an employee who assured me hed let his manager know. 20 minutes later the movie starts. Still out of focus. So I go out again to the front and tell a different employee, who apologizes and assures me the manager is heading in to fix it soon. I tell her the movie is starting. She says she understands and apologizes again. Except, no one ever fixes the focus. It’s off the whole movie.I don’t know if they thought I was lying, or if no one ever cared to check, or they couldn’t fix it, but we all had to watch a blurry movie. I didn’t want to miss any more of the movie so I didn’t make a fuss for a third time, assuming that surely someone would get to it, but it didn’t happen. It’s great that this place has friendly employees, but I don’t go for a friendly chat, I go to see a movie, and this theater has demonstrated it can’t do that well. They have successfully gotten rid of me. Hopefully the headache I got from watching that movie will leave and never return too.
I travel a lot and sometimes forget the gems back home. Located conveniently in downtown schenectady the Bow Tie does a dignified job at being a theater a little closer to home. The staff is friendly, if a bit unprofessional (given their paychecks I cant really fault them) and they keep the place clean. The layout is nice and comfortable, even if it doesnt do quite enough business to justify some of its amenities which makes the whole thing feel a bit empty. The theater provides free parking at the complex across the street provides you validate at the ticket counter. Theres some deals with college ids and that sort or thing. It does a surprisingly good job keeping up with the latest releases. The real attraction is their Tuesday deal, where tickets are 7 dollars and all popcorn and drinks are 5 regardless of size. In a world where you can pay 15 bucks to see a movie thats probably lukewarm at best, and they gouge you at the concession stand this deal makes me feel much less financially guilty when I see the latest mindless summer blockbuster.
Very affordable tickets if you go during matinee, very clean and many food choices. Shows most major films and usually very very dead on weeknights so if you’d like to avoid the crowded madness at the mainstream regal locations this is a very good alternative. Well maintained overall and staff seems good. Parking garage is free if they validate your ticket and location puts you right in downtown if you’d like to have dinner or drinks as well.
Its not like Regal, you cant assign your seats while purchasing your tickets. But you can purchase tickets online ,via Atom. But the concessions offer a wider variety of food items. Pizza, nachos, the usual popcorn, hot dogs......but whiles most places offer water or soda,Bow Tie offers white and red wine...and beer! This location in Downtown Schenectady, is always clean but!!!! The theater/rooms....can have a strange smell, this need to be fixed ! But staff is always nice and friendly.
Absolutely LOVE going to this theater. It is never bombarded like the Regals in Colonie and Crossgates. The concession stand prices are very reasonable compared to Regal also. The screen brightness and sound quality is just fine!Floors seem cleaner than the Regals.I only have two recommendations for improvements:#1- Better seats with lift up arms and slight lean back/recline.#2- Bring back the marquees above the doors at each theater showing what is playing at that time. Its handy to see which theater you are going to if you happened to put your tickets away and there isnt a ticket taker at in the hall.
I LOVE this theater. Its home owned. Its clean. Its matene prices are unbelievably cheap at $7.50. a lot of Places dont even offer day pricing. The seats arent the most comfortable but I have faith they will change them eventually. They place all the best movies and get all the big blockbusters the same day. Short of the Scotia movie theater its the best around
Every time that we have been here, the staff has been wonderful and very helpful. This evening, the manager, Dakota, was really accommodating and helped us seamlessly switch our movie times when we realized the earlier showing would not work for us. Thank you, Dakota and the rest of the Bowtie Movieland 6 staff, for always ensuring a great experience. Your warm and welcoming nature is much appreciated!
Bowtie has always been a local favorite of mine. They have great deals on snacks and matinee tickets. This theater feels very premium and provides stadium seating and validates parking. It is a good place to go in the middle of the day if you want the theater to yourself. Popcorn is always good, hot and buttery.
This movie theater is a highly underrated experience in the Capital region. We are dominated by Regal Theaters around here, and they have a higher ticket price of over $10 compared to only $8 here. There is no assigned seating, which I expect Regal will use to further increase prices. The Bow Tie is clean, rarely packed, and a great deal. I understand its not as convenient as Crossgates or Colonie Center for some people but its definitely worth it. Oh, and they serve alcohol too. Best theater in the area.
RECURRING PROBLEM: Sound too loud, unsafe volume. This theater has a regular problem with the volume being turned up too loud. I attend loud, live music performances, and can appreciate thundering music. THE PROBLEM here is their volume is often turned up so loud that actors speaking at normal level are painfully loud, to the point of triggering a distortion effect in the ears of the audience. At least three times Ive been forced to tell the staff to turn the volume down; it is loud without benefit.
Ive been coming here for a few years and have always enjoyed myself here. Its a friendly environment and updated. Recently there was a sound issue and they relocated us to a different theatre and restarted the movie. At the end they gave each guest two free movie passes. Would recommend this theatre!
Bow Ties cinema is a great movie theater. I have enjoyed several movies here. Another great thing they do are their Tuesday movie discounts. As well as Tuesday $5 popcorn runs. The staff always are pleasant and happy to help. During the summer hours another great service they do are free summer movies. Seats of course are first come first serve but they do have more then 1 theater showing the same film.
Patrons here can be very rude. Speaking on their phones and talking throughout the entire movie. I typically go on Tuesdays because the tickets are discounted. The only bad thing I can say about the theatre (that they have control of) is some of the rooms smell bad. They have just this dirty/funky smell. Like the upholstery on the chairs has absorbed a dirty clothes smell.
This is a great place to see a movie. All good seats, comfortable and free parking in parking garage across the street with validated parking ticket. The popcorn is the best and the movie tickets are among the lowest you can find. In addition, a movie is a matinee up until 6pm - much better than the Regal Cinemas 3pm.
Clean well-appointed and everything you could ask for. Concessions as you would expect for any major movie theater plus they also have hot food that you could turn into a serviceable meal. Additionally the ticket prices are cheaper than Regal and you dont have to worry about any of that assigned seating nonsense.
This is a great theater to go to if you dont want to pay the exuberant prices at Crossgates Mall and Colonie Center. The staff are friendly and helpful. Free parking is available in the parking garage located across the street from it. They serve popcorn, soda, and candy..
First - let me say that the seating and screens are great. The theater is clean and most of the staff is friendly.Ive been going here since it opened in Schenectady - when it did it was touted as a new movie going experience unlike the big chains. What I experienced tonight was just the opposite.I brought my 2 children to watch Finding Dory. I first got 2 pizzas and 2 large sodas. $26. Thought it was high, but so is most places. I went back up for a large popcorn and 2 candies. Another $16. I asked for one of their lids that they tout as innovative. Its a plastic top that can double as a small bowl. They wanted a buck. I told them I had already spent $26 and $16 and I wouldve had a $1 off if I ordered it as a combo, so could I please just get the lid. No. I was in disbelief. They called a manager over, and he seemed upset with me - probably because of the rather large line this particular night. I said I couldnt believe they wouldnt just give me a lid - I asked for a refund. He was obviously mad at me for asking - and even pointedly responded what did you just say when I said this isnt good customer service.I got my refund. Bowtie lost a customer. Sorry, stop saying you arent a big chain when you service says you are. There is another cinema a mile over the bridge that is 1/3rd the cost and would never treat a customer like this over a 3 cent plastic lid.
This place reminds you that you may be able to dress up Schenectady, but you cant take her out... gets the job done as a movie theater, would be nice if you could bring your drink inside rather then chugging it in the hallway. Im sure there are a bunch of insurance liabilities to come with that. But it would be nice.
Great place for movies ! Having a beer with the movie is an added perk . I will stop by just to buy popcorn sometimes because its so good . I have brought my grandsons to your free movie program & that was also fun with up to date movies . Very clean & comfortable , a recommend for sure
Had an issue tonight with an adolescent group of patrons. When I went out to complain the staff immediately addressed it and was able to enjoy the rest of the movie. They even continued to monitor the situation to ensure there were no further problems. Was very satisfied with their response!!!
I rented out a Theatre at Bowtie for the viewing of Black Panther, it ended up being an incredibly huge community event. Over 400 people came out for the event, the staff was absolutely amazing, the Manager was the greatest help in planning up to the event. We will be doing it again!#saveourstreets
Been going to the Schenectady theatre for some time now. Most visits the staff is friendly and theatres are clean and well maintained. Unfortunately our last visit weve noticed a lack of staffing and controlling your viewing experience. Had one our worst movie going experiences, people talking throughout the show, cellphone usage, not once any staff checking in during the movie to stop this behavior. It sad to loss out on a local theatre due to this experience. Will not be going back any time soon.
Extremely poor management of a relatively new facility in downtown Schenectady. I am an avid movie goer and the restrooms are disgusting each and every time I go there. Matinee or evening, weekday or weekend, there are empty soap dispensers, stalls without toilet paper and dirty sinks. My husband said the male bathrooms had 3 broken urinals out of 4! We now only go there if a particular film cant be seen anywhere else at a time that works for us. The management staff should be fired.
The etiquette of the crowd was abhorrent. The staff needs to continually monitor the behavior during the movie. Not once did a Bow Tie staff walk through the theater. Guests in the audience were literally ready to fight over kicking the back of seats. Also a pack of unattended youth caused so much commotion and disrupted the movie yet they were allowed to remain in the theater. I do not plan on returning.
Lobby and concession stand are pretty clean...but Ive been here 2 times in the past month and was told we cant go in the theater because they were cleaning it, then get in the theater and it literally looks like a popcorn machine exploded with all its fury in there. Hey I get you wont get every kernal but there was literally cups still in the holder and buckets on the ground. But hey guess we cant win em all
Love movies? Get their Criterion Club Card and earn points for free movies by buying movie tickets And concession stand. By using the card at both it adds up to free stuff (let the points ride for a free movie or cash them in for free popcorn). Also matinee prices are till 6p.m. so movies are just cheaper here.
There was hardly anybody there which was a plus but the mens bathroom was completely just disgusting, my husband and 5 year old went in to use the restroom and every single urinal was out of service and every toilet was plugged up with some kind of bodily waste... Is my 5 year old actually gagged and I had to take him into the womens room. We told a employee about it and they said they knew about it and a plumber was on their way they should of just roped off that bathroom instead of letting people walk into such a disgusting sight. Gross. For as gross as it was it must have been like that for a while ...shame on them for not getting someone in their sooner to fix it!
The Bow Tie Cinemas in Schenectady, NY is one of the best movie theaters in the Capital Region. When it comes to movie theaters in the Capital Region the Bow Tie is one of the best theater in the area. The Bow Tie has stadium seating and good sized movie screens. But perhaps the best attribute that Bow Tie Cinema has going for itself are the alcoholic beverages that can be purchased at the concession stand (Beer & Wine Only). But if your anything like me then the only features that matter are Big Comfortable Seats, Big Movie Screens and Quality Picture & Sound. If those features are important, then I wouldnt watch a movie @ Schenectadys Bow Tie Cinemas. I would go and watch a movie at a Regal Theater. The 2 Best Movie Theaters in the Capital Region are Regal Cinemas. Both are located in the Albany area.Crossgates Mall (IMAX)Colonie Center (RXP)
It was terrible, there wasnt enough Security and the audience wasnt quite, they were rude and didnt get to enjoy the movie , they were throwing papers and hitting everyone in the head , plus this kid was peeing in the floor .. they should give us a refund, and I also smelt pot , but no one did anything about it

2022-04-30Lobby was super cute at sunset. Food items (nachos, mozzarella cheese sticks, popcorn) were not bad, especially given that we went to the movies with hunger. We paid cheap for our tickets with Tmobile Tuesdays, so we were okay paying for so much food. The seats inside are outdated and small (been to better), and when we ordered our tickets online, the location was not clear. Maybe because a lot of children were expected for this movie, the audio was not as loud and surround as I am accustomed, or maybe its just not as good. All in all, Id definitely go again for funsies, but Ive been to better, updated theaters, hence 3 stars.

2022-06-19Went to see the new jurassic park. Got some consessions and enjoyed the movie! The theater is big and the chairs are very comfortable. Bow tie is definitely holding up to their high standards. We even delta with a new employee in training who did great and his trainers appeared to be doing a great job. Keep up the good work!

2022-03-13Chairs are filthy. Definitely did a quick walk thru after last show but they didnt clean it all. Still wrappers and popcorn all over. People should clean after themselves but if not staff should be cleaning. Would rather stay home in my clean home.

2022-06-05No free refills on large slushees. Seats are old stadium style. Movie screen and audio pretty outdated too. However tickets were cheap and they allowed us to use ticket passes for top gun. Nice people

2022-06-27Im giving this rating cause when I got my second refill, by accident I dropped it. I never drank it. I ask if they can refill it, they say no. Bad customer service.

2021-09-26This is a pretty awesome theater. Nice, clean, and spacious, they have a nice setup. The snack items are reasonably priced, and the staff are pretty friendly. If you still enjoy going to see you movie, this is a good one to do so. Also worth getting the membership, $20 a year for a boatload of perks? Great investment to make.

2022-04-12They kind of tease you with selling alcohol, but not letting you bring it into the actual theatre. A little expensive but a solid theatre with many movies running all the time.

2022-05-26This was a nice theater. Staff was ok and the seats are very comfortable
