We went here to attempt the notorious Phaal Curry Challenge, which claims to be the spiciest dish in New York City (and perhaps the world!). We also ordered Paneer Tikka, which was served on a sizzling skillet and tasted delicious. The Phaal Curry lives up to its hype! While at the restaurant, we did watch someone successfully complete the challenge. We were not masochistic enough to force ourselves through the misery of the challenge. I made it through about a third of the dish, with the help of a fair amount of raita, naan, and rice. This may mute the pain in your mouth, but be warned that there is nothing that will tame the burn as the curry reaches your digestive tract. I was feeling a strong gag reflex coming on as I reached the limits of my endurance. I suffered enough overnight that I’m glad I stopped when I did.
Ive been here a few times. Once during the all you can eat brunch for $9.99 and several times for dinner. The brunch was well worth the money. Food was great and lots to choose from. For dinner I had the seafood moilee, which was sooooo yummy! If you cant handle spicy, this is a great choice!!! Not spicy at all, and very creamy. (I cant handle spicy...)My friend decided to do the Phaal Challenge, which this place is famous for. It is a super spicy concoction of 13 different peppers to make a death bowl of fire. If you finish it, you get your name on the Phaal of Fame, a certificate, and a free beer. DEFINITELY DO NOT DO THIS IF YOU DONT WANT TO SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES!!! My friend was able to finish it, but not without sweat, blood, and tears!!! ok...maybe not that dramatic, but the instant he stood up, he said he felt like his stomach was eating itself. And was bedridden for the rest of the night HAHA!!! But if the pain is worth the satisfaction of finishing it and a free beer, then go for it!!!Overall, food here is very good, service here is great, and the atmosphere is classy and pleasant. I would definitely recommend this place for great indian food :)
Brick Lane Curry House is a fantastic Indian cuisine restaurant. Their infused spices in their curry sauces are absolutely stunning. I’m a huge hot sauce fanatic so I ordered the Phaal curry sauce to drip over my food. It definitely was hot but it wasn’t just spicy I can taste all of the flavors mixed together. Their lamb was cooked so beautifully that it melted in my mouth. Their servers were nice and helpful the whole time there. Amazing customer service. Bartender definitely knows how to make a drink. Inside of the restaurant is beautiful rustic decoration makes you feel like you’re in a cabin. Perfect for a date night with your significant other or just for dinner with friends. Definitely will be going there again.
The curries are delicious and the naan is also very good. The portions are filling, but the prices seem a bit on the high side. Service was friendly and fast, and we were seated quickly even though it was a bit crowded. It gets pretty loud so having a conversation could be a bit difficult here. But seriously, the curries are delicious.
Great location but this is a place that’s a one time visit for me. I decided to order the chicken kebabs which were filling but had no taste to them. The service was good but no one was really attentive to my party. We had to wait multiple times to order drinks and even after we placed our order, it seemed like it took quite a while to bring everything out. The phaal challenge seems great but besides that, the food is good at best.
I took the phall challange. No doubt this is the spiciest food Ive ever tasted. Being an Indian I tend to eat spicy food and I thought this would be a easy challange for me but I failed after having 2 bites of it.Didnt get a chance to taste anything else but mango lassi, which was decent. Cant comment on the other dishes but Phall tasted horrible (I was informed before ordering about the bad taste but I ordered it anyways) and it is SPICY AF!!! I have a feeling that other dishes would be good.
I went with my sister because we love Indian food and i expected it to be good from all the good reviews but it was madly disappointing. I ordered Samosa it was sour, ordered lamb briyani it came out super super dry and the chick peas had no taste.Food was disgusting and gave me stomach ache and diarrhea ! That’s why I’m writing this review.
To keep it short; Curries are delicious, service is impeccable, and the Phaal is worth dying for.Last night we went to their location to try their famous Phaal curry, spiciest in the world. Not to actually do the challenge but just to try the curry. It is made with the hottest pepper in the world The Carolina Reaper. Trust me on this one, if youre not someone who loves spicy food, or if you think The Halal Guys hot sauce is too hot, do not try this curry. This is insane. Immediately on the first bite you can feel it attacking your tongue and then your head and a few minutes in your stomach goes. So if youre not a pepper lover do not try this. It might do you more harm than good, but for those of you who are up for it, definitely go try it. It was definitely an experience Ill remember, even though I chickened out on the third bite. Those who know me well know I love lots and lots of pepper, but this battered me. I am yet to find out what itll be like in the toilet. So get down there and try it brave lads! Don’t have pictures of the Phaal Curry but these apps were scrumptious...
Good food and drinks. Servers are friendly and helpful. Lamb Vindaloo is fantastic. Specialty drinks that can pair with your food if you talk to the servers.Ive gone back a dozen or so times and still love it. Was actually lucky enough to be their for a good and whiskey pairing - and while I didnt think it would fit, it really did.Come solo as a couple or with friends, everyone will leave happy and full.Try the Phaal if you dare!
The food here is delicious. We ordered several things to share and everything came perfectly. The chicken was delicious tender and the sauce was creamy and rich. Everything tasted fresh. The service was also fantastic. Attentive and responsive but not smothering. I will return again and again!
Chose this place strictly due to its name. I was hoping for some authentic British Indian cuisine and out of all the Indian restaurants in NYC this one sounded promising.Sadly it didnt deliver. And it certainly wouldnt do well on the actual Brick Lane in London. The server wasnt very knowledgeable, but I hoped the chef knew what they were doing.I was served stale papadam, overcooked lamb and bland curries. If youre in NY for a limited time I wouldnt suggest wasting your Indian craving on this one.
We stopped by Brick Lane just to try the extremely spicy Phaal curry. Ended up ordering it as a side ($6) instead of a curry entree and glad we did since we were able to enjoy other dishes by dipping meats into the Phaal curry. IMO, it would have been way too overpowering to have it as an entree since its extremely spicy. Come here and try out the Phaal curry if youre into eating dishes made with Carolina reapers.
Average Indian spot, good but not great. Dont be lured in by the Phaal. We ordered the Madras Curry, Phaal Curry, and the Tikka masala.Being a big fan of spicy foods I was drawn to this place from their notorious phaal curry. While it was certainly spicy it had an awful flavor that could best be described as being similar to battery acid. I would certainly skip the Phaal curry, if youre looking for good extremely spicy food I would recommend the Phaal roll at Thelewala in the west village (Macdougal and Bleecker) instead, at a much cheaper price point it delivers the same amount of spice albeit with a much more palatable flavor.Madras curry was pretty good, had a unique flavor and a nice comfortable level of spice. The Tikka Masala was on par with Just about any other Indian spot, nothing to write home about. The table next to us ordered the Chicken Tikka tandoor which came on a sizzling platter which looked and smelled delicious, so if you do come here I would recommend skipping the curry and ordering one of the tandoor dishes. Just by the food alone I dont know if I would return here.Atmosphere was quite pleasant, and the service was good.
The ambience of the restaurant is very soothing. The chicken biryani is honestly the best Ive ever had in New York. It was the perfect amount of food and the raita was an amazing touch. I tried my friends tikka masala and it tasted truly authentic. It had a bit of sweetness to it and I have never tasted that in any other tikka masala. My friend tried the Phaal and loved it so much. The staff were impressed that she could it since it is so spicy. They gave us a complimentary dessert at the end of the night. I will definitely return here or order take-out very soon.
The Buffet that we had was very good and priced fairly. Although it may be an unassuming assortment, the taste of each dish was exceptional. Definitely worth it to go, but it is not clear when the buffet is offered. For note, we went on a Friday for lunch. Otherwise a lunch special is offered and posted.
Made a reservation here to celebrate our anniversary. Looking at their website you see fine Indian cuisine, a nice full bar, beers on tap! A half hour before our reservation I got a text message that says BYOB, we do not serve alcohol. It is false advertisement to say the least. I called them and they said they moved and they don’t have a liquor license. The only thing he could say was I’m sorry. They definitely need to update their website, so disappointed
Cleanliness: 5Food Selection: 4Food Quality: 4Service: 4Price: 5+Overall they have a selection of mostly chicken and chicken curry. There is a vegetarian selection as well as a really nice salad. For the price you absolutely cannot go wrong.Bathrooms were clean and you can bring your own alcohol to drink.Highly Recommend for budget travelers or locals. They bring rice and naan to your table.
What a spot! The food was amazing, and your choice of buffet or a la carte. For those brave enough, try the Phaal challenge, it is legitimately one of the hottest things I have ever tasted in my life, but still brimming with actual flavor instead of just over done buffalo sauce like most other spicy challenges. Find this hidden gem, it is well worth it, from the outstanding food, great decor, and super nice wonderful staff!
Great food, great host and really enjoyed the atmosphere. We wanted to try the hot curry but they suggested a whole curry Would be too much so we just had a taster of the sauce instead, so glad they did! Very hot, very good. Good lassi here too. I would go back when in NYC again.
Brick Lane Curry House is the best Indian food Ive ever eaten, maybe even better than my moms. Although the service can be a little slow, the ten dollar lunch box is more food than ever. The tastes, however, are incredible. I was so impressed and I cant even count how many times Ive been to this restaurant. Best Indian food ever. Everyone should try it.
Very disappointing. Went to website which was not what the place turned out to be. Website menu showed wines and lots of mixed drinks that sounded interesting. Instead the place had no liquor license so no alcohol drinks unless you bring your own. Food soso. Also first Indian restaurant ( and I have been to a lot) that did not have complimentary dahl, cabbage, and spices for the main dishes. The only plus is on a Saturday night no problem getting a table (now i know why).
I want to thank Brick Lane Curry House for reminding my husband and me of the amazing curries we fell in love with as Londoners. We are relatively new New Yorkers and this was by far the best Indian meal we have had. We both ordered vindaloos, which were almost as good as those from our favourite London restaurant (Raj of India, Shepherds Bush). If I could offer one tiny critique, I would say they were slightly too vinegary. Their delicious garlic naans were spot on. Also, this was no fault of theirs but we tend to prefer pilau rice, which was not on offer.Overall, the restaurant is beautiful: modern, clean, airy and handsomely lit. The service was friendly and attentive and I love that you pay on a tablet. We will be back again and again!
Really good spot. Not the best southasian food Ive had but for the approachability and location its probably one of the better places to go. The best indian places are all the laid back casual ones on curry hill of course but brick lane is an actual restaurant experience with good quality food and service. Ambience is a bit tonedeaf I thought but still enjoyable. Tables are nice to look at. Prices are a tad bit more than expected but Ive been spoiled over a lifetime of cheap and amazing indian places. I think they do well for their core customer base. Surprisingly tender tandoori chicken. Ive possibly never had some so well made actually.
This used to be one of the best Indian restaurants in nyc. Since theyve moved to 2nd Ave however, theyre in total disarray. The food was still delicious but they never brought us the dipping sauces they used to be known for and it took forever to get the check. Our waiter didnt have a clue. I hope they turn it around but for now, I cannot suggest.
The food was okay - we had the Bombay Aloo that was decent and had a good level of spice, and another lentil-based vegetarian entree that I cant remember. The veggie pakora appetizer was overly greasy.Drinks are surprisingly expensive for a curry house -- $7 for a King Fisher and $10 for a basic vodka and ginger. The taps arent very clean - the King Fisher was flat and had a musty taste to it, so I switched to a bottle for the second beer.We sat at the bar and while the bartender was a nice guy, he was really really inefficient and just randomly fulfilled orders. Hed take an order and forget it, then forget to come back. The waiters were reaching over us to the point of touching us with their armpits to get dishes to bring out to the seating area. But the best part: somebody dropped a glass that shattered on the floor in front of the bar, and when they cleaned it up they didnt sweep! Just picked up the biggest chunks, leaving visible glass lay on the floor.I wouldnt recommend going here. Go ~15 blocks north to Curry Hill and the quality of the food is better, the prices are significantly lower, and the service is better.
Had been there with very high expectation after they were featured in multiple TV shows and we were looking forward to trying the hottest curry they have to offer . But what a disappointment this place was .The bartenders were clueless and the hostess was rude and we left after the drinks. Thankfully so . NY records indicates that they were investigated for unhygienic food storage and cooking habits . Tragedy averted.
I dont understand why the reviews are not better for this place. The food is delicious. I have eaten here twice. The first time I completed the Phaal curry challenge and the second time I tried something a little more traditional. Both dishes tasted great. The staff was really nice. They really want to take care of you well. There is nothing wrong with this place at all. I recommend it.
Went here for my birthday. Has some of the best curry I’ve ever had. In fact, I cried. Literally, figuratively, emotionally. I walked in excited, I left feeling cleaned and rejuvenated. While the chicken Vindaloo is very spicy, taste is not an afterthought with an aroma of spices to complement the finely cooked poultry. I also had some of the chicken tikka masala and the Samosa Chat which were both spectacular. 9/10.
Disclaimer: The only thing I ate here was the Phaal Curry. I do not recommend eating this unless you are interested in intense stomach pain and are a massive masochistWith the reputation that the Phaal Curry has as one of the spiciest curries in the world (made with Carolina Reapers), its hard to imagine what this level of spice can truly taste like. When I ordered the curry (much to the amusement of my friends) the waiter (bless him) tried to talk me out of it several times, and tried to make me realize the intense pain I was going to undergo. With a very healthy helping of milk and yogurt, I was ready to tackle the challenge! After about 20 seconds, I could say this was the spiciest thing Ive ever eaten. Each bite was agony, and my stomach was shouting angrily at me.This meal was truly more pain than pleasure. It did not taste good at all! However, being the masochist I am, this was exactly what I was looking for. I cant wait to be back!
Ill talk about the Phaal challenge, read through. :) Lets start with food. Its just great! Several times Ive been here, it was nothing but fantastic. The blend of spices is just perfect. Curries are extremely delicious. Had the saag paneer one time and phaal the other time. Staff is great! Very attentive and not at all intrusive. Will answer all your questions professionally and they are very knowledgeable. If you like Indian food this place is just a must. Now for the Phaal challenge... Its just pure pain! Do it if youre adventurous, but be warned. They dont tell you this on the menu, but the aftermath is what you should worry about. Eating the Phaal itself is hard, bit what comes later is just pure pain in your stomach. Cant compare it to anything Ive ever experienced in my life. Its like having someone punching your stomach with full power while some flesh eating ants are devouring your insides. Dont even get me started about the next day... Youve been warned, its not fun. But if youre adventurous... :) Anyway, place worth a visit and coming back 100%
Pretty pricey for what you get. We went with a dumb kid that dragged us there for their ridiculous phall curry challenge. I ordered something else that was ok but forgettable and ran me $20+tax and tip. Meanwhile, the goon that ordered the phall couldnt even get through half the dish. Went into the bathroom and blew chunks. Seemed out of it for the whole rest of the day and seemed to run off to the bathroom a lot after that. And he paid good $$$ for the privilege LOL!
Went here with some friends to try the Phaal (mega-hot curry). The staff were super candid and helpful regarding the challenge, they didnt try to sucker you in for the gimmick and were very honest about what you would face. The Phaal was an... experience, to say the least. But all the other food we ordered with it was exceptional - especially the vindaloo
Ive eaten here a few times. First time I went here I was in a large group. I wanted to to the Fal Curry Challenge! I cant say I enjoyed it the first time! I crushed the challenge and received a cool.little certificate, But dude can u say HOT!!!!!! I have eaten at this place numerous time over the last 6 -7 years and I gotta say i have always been satisfied and had a great dining EXPERIENCE! I love the menu, food, staff and place always is immaculately clean. I highly recommend this place. The only thing even remotely bad I can say is when they do the challenge they should take a picture of you and they should put it up. Ive done many challenges and thats how it usually works. I lost my certificate and I never emailed them. And thier is NO WAY I WILL EVER EAT THAT HOT CURRY THEY MAKE AGAIN!!!! lol... I do enjoy everything else on the menu ! Please give this place a try!!!!
They didnt really have good customer service. The staff was hanging around the bar. No one seemed to have any focus on the customers. Their phaal curry is definitely hot, but not the hottest thing Ive ever eaten however, it is a waste of time, and money. 25 minutes to complete with no one watching you or keeping track of time. I couldve thrown the curry in the garbage and acted like I finished lol. Four pieces of meat and a large bowl full of hot curry. You pay for meal, and get a piece of paper with your name written on it. They do not post every picture they take of ppl who complete the challenge, and I know because Im not on their website or fb page upon completing the challenge. Very pricey meals, and I know for sure there are places to eat indian food in the surrounding areas with good customer service and well worth the money.
My friend recommended this place for the all you can eat buffet and I was very excited to check it out. I wasnt sure what to expect, since the place looked pretty small, inside it was narrow with only a small handful of tables occupied. The buffet options were extremely limited with about 6 selections, one fish dish, a chicken dish, about 3-4 vegetarian options, side of rice, fried vegetable thing, salad and rice pudding. The took small spoon samples of each of the selections and unfortunately only enjoyed one, the chicken tikka masala. This dish, rice and naan were about the only things I ate. I was a bit disappointed with the selections, but I really cant complain because they had a good price. Although I think this place would be more satisfying and probably more packed if they changed their buffet menu, to highlight more of their food by adding some other meat dishes and simple things like adding samosas and paratha to the sides.
It’s a white washed Indian restaurant and overpriced considering where the food comes from, the legacy of this cuisine is not being unreasonably expensive but still wholesome. I’d recommend Indian Kitchen in Williamsburg 10 minutes away from this store however the food is very edible and clean.
One of my favorite Indian restaurants! But sadly when I walked by the other day it has a for rent sign on the front😟 but according to Yelp and google its still open so heres my review for when I last wentService: Exceptional, Waiters are super friendly, and helpful in helping you navigate the menu , my water glass was never emptyPrice: Reasonable about 13-17 for dinner entree, and 12 after tax for lunch buffetFood:Delicious, all seasoned well and tastes incredibleChicken Tikka Masala: mild tomato based curry - full of flavor- not too spicyShrimp vindaloo: Spicy tomato based curry - not as spicy as the phaal, but definitely has a kickNaan: Onions and Garlic - definitely get the stuffed versions, you will not regret it - texture is a cool combo of malaysian roti cani and a chinese pancakeRice Pudding: Not too thick or thin, has peanuts and other traditional indian desert spices, very very good my favorite
Great food, great service. I have been hear each time I visited NYC from Chicago (probably half a dozen times). And guess what, each time I only had one dish! Their lamb chops or “imli ke champe”. They are to dye for! Every time I go there to try something else and I cannot resist but to reorder their lamb chops!
Depending on what you order, youll find this place mediocre or amazing. The set of curries they have might seem different than what most places with North Indian punjab food offer. The Madras and Vindaloo curries are very taste and unique. I also like the daal makhani here. The garlic naan is fresh, soft and tasty. They also have a hot food challenge for their phaal curry which uses ghost peppers. If you want to try it for a kick but dont want to make a meal out of it, they also serve it as a side. The best part about going here though is their cocktail- the punjab. Its a long Island ice tea with spices! Very yummy and strong!Theres hardly ever a wait here on most evenings and the service is good too.
I am a native New Yorker and will keep to the directness of how we are known to be :)Food: Great! I ordered the Chicken Vindaloo and highly recommend it! I have also had the Phaal Curry and despite the chef needing a mask in its preparation; its not that deadly :)Drinks: Good!Space: The space is very small, intimate, and romantic making it good for date nights or get-togethers. The place is named after the London Brick Lane and has a map of the London Underground.Scene: Date Night. Romantic.Service: The staff is very professional and courteous.
Ahmad - he was our waiter. He called us to dine in though they were closing in 10 minutes, did not mention that till we placed our order then kept rushing us to leave because they were closed. Very unprofessional. This other waiter had to send him away because he got into an argument with us. Thank you Suraj.Food was decent.
I went here for the second time in my life ever having Indian food. The naan was fabulous and came in a variety of offerings. Mmmm, delish. The curry dish I had was perfect... chicken with coconut, among other things. We ordered dessert and they additionally brought us some rice pudding complimentary. Very nice!
Sorry the food here was terrible. Buffett lunch including tax and tip = $15All the dishes looked like they had been sitting there for hours! I got there at 12:30 pM peak lunch time and the food looked stale. Nothing was HOT. Not even the chicken which is supposed to circulate frequently (the famous butter chicken). It all tasted bland and old.I wont be back.+1 star for excellent service (but then again the restaurant was empty).
Was there a few years ago and did that phall challenge. Decided to return. I seldom feel compelled to pen a review; Tonight, however, I am.- Entered the place and a man behind the front counter/register, Ill call him The Chainsmoker, looked at us and pointed to a table for my wife and I to sit at. My wife still insists that table was the size of 4 postage stamps; It was more like 16.- Since we had a few bags, I humbly asked The Chainsmoker if we may change to a larger table. The Chainsmoker said that all the larger tables were for parties of 4. I thought he was joking and I politely pointed out that the restaurant was EMPTY. He said that they did in fact have incoming reservations. It was obvious he was lying as his left eye was freakishly twitching.- My wife and I left and went a few doors down to Thailand Cafe. As busy as they were, they gave us NO TROUBLE at all being seated at a larger table.- As we left and were looking for a cab, we passed Brick Lane. That man behind the counter, The Chainsmoker, was outside, in front, puffing away like it was the last cigarette on Earth. Meanwhile, the place WAS EMPTY. I guess the incoming reservations all cancelled. The Chainsmoker didnt even have the balls to look at us.- Go there if you like being LIED TO by inconsiderate staff.
First time going to Brick Lane for their curry buffet and I really enjoyed it. For $10 (not including tax and tips), you can enjoy a copious amount of food. Compared to other Indian Buffets that Ive been to, the selection here is much less, with about 7-8 options to choose from. Some of my favorite dishes includes: naan, tomato soup, tempura veggie, chicken tikka masala, and the sweet rice pudding. I must admit though, that the food that Brick Lane serves can really fill you up quick, since theres lots of carbs and starches, but overall, its pretty decent for the price you pay. Service was ok, could be a bit better, for instance forgetting that we (friend and I) ordered more naan. Still, that is not going to stop me from coming back to try out their dinner service, and other traditional Indian cuisine that they have to offer.
Review for the Lunch Buffet which runs everyday for $10. CHEAP!All you can eat for $10 for lunch! Drinks include chai milk tea or just regular tea. After you get a table, you go to the buffet area and get your own food. Pick and choose whatever you crave for.The spread is usually the same but sometimes its different. Ive came here on different days and they usually have something else that wasnt there before. The usual spread they have: Chicken Tikka Masala, Saag Paneer, rice pudding, Tandoori Chicken, fish curry, basmati rice, or rice with peas and carrots.Came here for dinner once and it was so not worth it. $20 for a simply curry dish was just too expensive. I dont get how lunch is only $10 and AYCE, yet dinner you get the same amount of curry, not AYCE and double the price?! wth..But taste wise it was pretty authentic and definitely filling, especially when I have been going through curry withdrawals for about two months. Staff is attentive and they clear your plate pretty fast when you get up to get your next round.
Pathetic service and attitude of staff. We went for lunch buffet and they just gave 1 Nan among 4 of us. And when we asked more nans, they gave 1 more nan after 15 minutes. We were waiting until then. And then I told them if they had sense that how much nan you should give on table of 4. Then they got 2 more nans after 20 minutes and we were just waiting. I will never recommend anyone for this place unless. Attitude of the staff was really bad and so I gave them $0 tip !!
Horrible service. Excuse of delay in food was that they were busy. My order was very small and people who ordered right before me got their food, ate it too. While I was still waiting for 45 mins while I could see delivery orders fly out the door. Maybe that was a priority for them. Had to eventually have it to go.The host didnt really care. I will never go there again.
I can eat spicy food but The Phaal curry is death. We basically went to this place to try that curry. My recommendation would be to try the Phaal sauce first to see if you can handle it otherwise you would be wasting the whole curry. They warn you very well about the spicyness. We had the peshawari naan on the side which was sort of a saving grace.
I used to come at this place every two weeks or so. On new years eve, I paid the check and unfortunately, forgot or left my credit card here . Someone from the restaurant booked a flight to Mumbai India for $1004 . Then i called the restaurant and one guy picked up the call. When i explained what happened and gave him my infomation .Then i asked him whats your name sir ?? He replied name ... My name .... Yes ... my name is Annie. I said i think thats a gilrs name and you sound indian too me and as far as i know india doesnt have Annie name and then he abruptly cut the call ... 👎
Not bad curries, but overpriced and really bad service. They constantly pestered us with up-selling, and then at the end refused to honor the free beer if you finish your phaal offer, citing some fake caveats on time limit that wasnt mentioned on the menu, and accusing us of cheating. Way to build a bad reputation guys.
This is a good curry house, i wouldnt say much original about it except ofcourse about he phaal. AKA the spiciest curry this side of the western hemisphere. The food, other wise is pleasent and not overly in need of anything but a good, remodeling, as the entire location seems to be built on the premise that an alley way would be its premise.
Experience youll never forget. This great indian establishment not only serves delicious food, but also hosts the Brick Lanes own Phal Challenge.. If you are brave enough to finish this spicy dish in 30 minutes, your picture goes on the wall and you get a certificate. Warning to contestants: do not try this while inebrieted!
Not very authentic at all, the madras was more like a tikka massala, no spice and sweet, in fact the chicken bhuna my partner had, had more of a kick(strange), the accompaniments that came with the poppadoms were very strange to say the least and one of them was like treacle, another was like chewing on raw coriander, and to top the evening off we got the bill, I nearly phaal off my chair! (excuse the pun), Very expensive evening for a below par curry, my advice is if you want a good curry, go to the UK, because you can get a better curry there for a third of the price.

2021-12-21The decor is really beautiful, and a fresh departure from the “Christmas lights all year” look of East Village Indian restaurants. It’s a beautiful all-white dining room with well spaced tables and delicious food. I cannot recommend it highly enough. The staff was really attentive and friendly.

2022-04-08Had a uncomfortable experience, and feeling to share here so that they dont do this again. I was there eating mealpal and ordered a chai tea. I asked for check, and the server said its 6 dollars at the end... I was thinking it a bit unreasonable for this price (i can at least get a premium Starbucks drink)...so I asked for menu, and menu says its 4 dollars, and he apologized. He asked me to pay Zelle, which I felt he just wanna take the money himself. I choose to give cash, and gave him 20 bucks, and he gave me 15... So its like 5 dollars now? I feel uncomfortable because I felt he wanna scam me, so I left there. They shouldnt do business this way, because I felt unethical. I know its only 5 bucks, but I wont come again. The egg biryani was not acceptable, basically 2 eggs and yellow rice. I would rather eat at a halal truck. Sorry, and thank you for reading.

2022-02-13Food was good but you can tell this place is penny pinching. I was in a party of two and we got the Korma and the vindaloo for about $20 each. The taste was pretty good but the portion sizes are too small for the price. Lastly we had to share a small bowl of rice between two people and when asked for a second portion we were charged an extra $3.I would not recommend this place when there are so many other great options in the city.

2022-06-15Being from England and especially Birmingham where the balti is famous I was concerned that the curry in NY wouldnt come close... I was wrong. Genuinely one of the best curries Ive had. Great service too.

2022-07-27We had the vindaloo and the phaal curry. Vindaloo curry was tasty, very spicy, and a good item to share, but was somewhat overpriced in my opinion. I do want to praise the place for being willing to serve the phaal curry as a side dish. That way people can attempt the spice challenge without destroying their wallet. The spice is definitely real and intense. I could only have a tiny dot of the curry without needing water. If you and your friends are looking for an intense spice challenge get the phaal curry as a side dish along with an actual meal you can enjoy. I want to give the place a better rating, but I’ve had better tasting Indian food at a number of places. It’s not bad, just not excellent

2019-12-04Great value per money for the lunch menu including curry options, rice, freshly baked naan, lentil and vegetable. It was tasty, moderate in chilli and a big portion size. Only mango lassi was too artificially flavoured and sweet. Restrooms and ambience are clean and offers a good service.

2021-04-21My spot for a spicy, home flavour, traditional Indian curry. They offer quite a selection making honour to their name. Please don’t forget to try the mango lassi and the Roti!!

2021-03-28The service was good, there was an error in my food to which the waitress fixed straight away. The food was good, I got the vindaloo, the flavor was good although I would have liked it spicier. The price was spot on.
