Great cocktails! I liked how all the staff made sure to wear their masks properly and were pretty attentive. The appetizers were pretty generous and filling. The mains were delicious, huge portions and delicious spices. The flavors were all great. Good for modern Vietnamese
Visited today for the first time since 2019. Wow, so happy to be back! Have been here a few times with different people, consistently yummy and friends are always happy. Menu has changed somewhat, missed some of their old appetizers. The banh xeo is always perfect. Probably the best I’ve had anywhere. So crispy with a nice amount of shrimp and pork. Spicy garlic noodles were somewhat disappointing, found the noodles were over cooked, but certainly has a nice heat. Steak was perfect. Cocktails are always a highlight here, was WAY too excited when I saw there is now a MATCHA PAINKILLER. If you see my reviews, painkillers are my weakness and THIS is it!!! Brooklyn Dispensary is good for mezcal lovers, not as sweet of a cocktail as it sounds FYI. Outdoor patio is a lush green escape with funky vintage furniture, probably what I want my dream apartment to look like.... can you tell I’m obsessed!
The Pho Bo was luke warm with overcooked noodles and raw meat. Kids Mac & Cheese was watery, blend and overcooked. The shrimp stir fried noodles very extremely spicy with overcooked shrimp. Our main dishes also came out separately. For the price of dishes at this restaurant, I expected much better food and service.
The ambiance is dreamy and romantic. It’s the perfect amount of rustic decor with the right amount light (so you can still see each other, but with a soft glow). I had the hot apple cider with a shot of bourbon (you can order without bourbon—but why would you?) and it warmed me right up. The apple cider was actually HOT and not warm like most places. At the bottom, you can taste the remnants of apples and it’s a great end to the drink. I ordered plates to share like courses, in this order, and it was perfect—pork buns, Vietnamese crepe, octopus salad, duck and noodles with beef. I asked for a slow paced experience and they knew how to serve each plate just at the right time. I should have stopped at the duck because the noodles were my least favorite of the dishes. The most impressive was the octopus salad and the duck. The meat was crispy but tender on the inside. The flavors were not overpowering and the chili oil compliments a few of the dishes well.
The rest of my table had finished their appetizer and entree before my own plate arrived. I expect the food to be timed better or at least be given a heads up on the wait time before placing my order. The food is fine, but the lack of [advance] communication ruined my experience here. I have better viet options elsewhere.
Delicious food, efficient wait staff, great experience all around. I had the shrimp pineapple dish and my friend had the duck, we both enjoyed them very much. I had the GG drink and found it to be refreshing. The waiter was attentive without being distracting. Slightly more expensive than expected but a great overall experience.
Is it worth the money? Absolutely not. Is it a nice experience? Yeah, it’s all right. I just can’t get over how much I spent on this meal. 2 drinks for 2 people. 1 appetizer. 2 entrees. Insane! Especially for food I feel that I could’ve ordered from anywhere because nothing was super special about this restaurant. Scallops were great. Drinks were interesting. Noodles. Meh. Shrimp. Sure. Here’s my problem. I’ve had mind blowing meals for the same price as this place so maybe my bar is just really high. I hate to give it 4 stars, but I walked out of this restaurant feeling robbed. Sorry 😞
I cannot say enough great things about this place! We hosted my daughters baptism brunch here and they went out of their way to accommodate our big group. Miro is such a kind and accommodating person and the space is so beautiful- a truly unique spot. And, the food is amazing! Every dish was a big hit and we can’t wait to go back.
Great backyard garden experience! So good to eat outside and be off the street! The staff were very friendly, the garden was beautiful and the food was great! The Squid was cooked perfectly and the Unshaken Steak had a great char to it that added great flavor. The motion chocolate cake was delicious with the toasted almonds.Great experience, highly recommended!
The food was good, the service was excellent, but this is not Vietnamese food. There are a few Vietnamese dishes on the menu, but even these are not truly Vietnamese. The food is a fusion of Latin, Vietnamese and other flavors. Also, this restaurant is more like $$$ in terms of cost. The appetizers are more than $15, the cheapest main is $35. The pricing is more like Buddakan or Tao.
Quality of food expectations did not meet the price. The ribeye (unshaken beef) was grossly undercooked, even for a med/rare, and had a considerable fat cap. Had to leave half of it untouched on the plate. Also not much in the way of included sides, unless you order one of the noodle dishes.
3.5 stars. I’ve eaten here several times and tried a variety of dishes.Banh Mi, Unshaken Beef, egg rolls, and Pork Vermicelli Bowl are solid. The Pho is an absolute disaster. Murky, oily, fatty, not sure what the vision was.Even though the food for the table does not come out together, the service is good, waiters are very pleasant. At this price point, I expect better food ($46 before tip for vermicelli bowl + pho - no alcohol). The Unshaken beef is $38, it’s a really good tasting 14oz ribeye but at $38, that’s pushing mid to high end steak house prices. It’s not common to see Vietnamese food at this price point (not that I dislike viet food, I love it actually), but relative to other viet restaurants in Brooklyn, this places charges 2x as much.Decent Brooklyn food spot with focus on drinks and ‘unique vibe’ - not food (see the reviews that focus on vibe and patio). If Instagrams your thing, might be cute, if food’s your thing, maybe a pass
We got the veg crepe and the tofu bahnmi. The place is pricey and so I expect a little bit more in terms of getting the food right. The crepe was amazing but the bahnmi was a let down. The tofu barely had any flavor. My suggestion would be to use a liquid marinade or batter and fry it to retain flavor. The baguette was probably a French baguette so it was a lot of dense bread. Bahnmi is better with the Vietnamese baguette which is softer and more hollow :)The tapioca pear dessert was lovely!
Food was overpriced, portions were small and sadly, the taste was not great. Decor was great though. As for what we ordered: Lemongrass pork ribs and pork buns were awesome! I was excited for the clay pot fish but it was too sweet. Mushroom wontons were super underwhelming!
Bricolage is a special place. It is very unassuming from the outside, but right when you step inside there is awesome music, a great bar and very friendly service. The food here is awesome, and the open kitchen setting makes it super fun to see all of the action. The cocktails are all artisanal and they have great beer/wine selections. Did I mention the food was amazing?
Bricolage is a charming restaurant with a modern take on Vietnamese cuisine. The restaurant has outdoor spaces (a patio and a terrace) and is open at the time I am writing. The patio, created by an artist, is particularly unique and charming. Dining there feels like peaceful retreat away from the city. We organised a small event in the patio and the restaurant management was very friendly and professional. Our guests had a great time and we received a lot of compliments on the food and beautiful atmosphere of the evening. Thanks to all the Bricolage staff!
Ive had a good amount of Vietnamese food and Bricolage is the best! The flavors are excellent and the food is always very fresh. Ive had a few dishes, including the veggie pancake, veggie banh mi and the papaya salad. Everything was superb! While the food might seem to be the focus here, they also have an equally fantastic and creative cocktail list. Tyler, behind the bar, is talented and has created some tasty concoctions. Each drink, like the Kemosabe, takes you on a journey. Warm weather means their back patio will open and thats another reason to check them out!!
Their garden is NOT an outdoor space. It’s cute, but every inch of it is enclosed. The exact same thing as eating indoors. Some parties were seated 2-3ft apart. The food was ok, but perhaps our impression was tainted by receiving an indoor dining experience after expecting a garden. Sadly wasn’t able to enjoy.
Yes yes, they have a very chic and pretty outdoor space but food was disappointing. Maybe I just went on a bad day? Since most of the review says “great food” But I’ve never had a pho this bad in my life. I’m not even comparing it with what I’ve had in Vietnam but to just a simple basic bowl of pho you can find in nyc. I ordered the pho bo, I appreciated the thickness and tenderness of the beef brisket and tripes were crunchy but they had no taste at all! The broth tasted like nothing to me. It was so bland! I wanted to ask for salt which I never thought I would have to for a bowl of pho. I couldn’t finish the noodle because it was so bad so I asked for it to go (to not waste food and since I had to pay $18 for it). If the chef is reading this, please go check and try out the pho yourself.
Had a fantastic dinner in the beautiful back garden. Cocktails were complex and lovely and all of our dishes were spectacular. Favorites were the scallop appetizer and the spicy garlic noodles, but all of it was excellent! Our server Luke was lovely and made the experience great as well. We will be back!
Great viet spot with a good ambiance inside the restaurant. They offer an outdoor area in the back which is really nice when the weather permits. Their pho was lacking a lot of flavors and so was the chicken that came with it. The other dishes however were pretty good.
The food was outrageously expensive. $21 for 3 pork buns, 2 of them had no meat in them, just a slab of fat 🤢 I’ve been here twice and the food was very very hit and miss. Some dishes are quite tasty, but even then it’s overpriced for what you get. The backyard is beautiful so it’s worth going once, I would suggest going with friends and eating family style. Take pics and then never go back.
THE COUPLE•Honestly, I cant even blame Alex for sneaking a bite... The food was that damn good‼️😂❤️•THE COOKBOOK•Unshaking Beef - Masonic Village Farm ribeye, pearl onions, scallion, lime-pepper sauce💥.House Made Banh Canh Noodle -coconut milk, tofu, pickled vegetables, bean sprouts😍•THE CHEF•“Opening a restaurant is not just about being able to cook. We both worked for many years with Charles Phan in San Francisco, managing his restaurants. Ultimately, the difference between managing and owning a restaurant is profound; now we have skin in the game..So, why New York? Hah, everyone wants to be in New York, it’s exciting! You know the song ‘If you make it in New York, you can make it everywhere! Our mentor, Charles Phan, followed the concept of letting ingredients shine and we admire him for elevating the Vietnamese cuisine, and for introducing it to the mainstream in California. We’ve realized that there aren’t a lot of Vietnamese restaurants in New York, and the ones that you see are more the typical Banh-Mi shops or the old-school Vietnamese restaurants..We aim to change the perception of Vietnamese food and to introduce a fresh, modern Vietnamese concept. Due to the Vietnam War there is no long-term exposure to the Vietnamese cuisine or culture in America. Refugees brought over Vietnamese dishes, but they were trying to survive here, so it wasn’t the same caliber of cuisine as one would see in Vietnam..Weve been fortunate to find a great group of chef friends with whom we try to push the envelope and modernize Asain cuisines by taking good ingredients and investing the necessary time to create something worthwhile. Our collective friendship over time blossomed into @AsianFoodMafia where we and other chefs meet monthly to cultivate culinary ideas, support one another, and quite frankly, just have fun! We aspire to further elevate Asian cuisine as theres much to be appreciated in its diversity, nuance and flavor. For us, we can already see changes in how Vietnamese cuisine is being perceived and its truly fantastic! ~ Lien & Edward Lin (Chefs/Owner of @BricolageBk)•
Pros: Beautiful restaurant and fast attentive service. Menu is inventive while still respecting Vietnamese tradition.Cons: Food - we must have come on an off night. Papaya salad, lamb noodles, beef pho were all underseasoned. Both noodle dishes arrived lukewarm - we eventually sent the beef pho back to get reheated. Noodles in the beef pho were overcooked and mushy on arrival, leading us to think it may have been sitting for a while to be brought to our table. This does not impact the rating, but the broth was too spice forward (cinnamon, etc.) for our taste and lacked depth. In all, food did not earn its relatively high price tag.Cons: Table - we made a reservation, but we were seated close to the bathroom.I do not like seeing or hearing patrons coming in and out of the toilet while I am eating. Another issue was that our table was blocking in a patron at another table who was seated against the wall. Every time she would get up from her table, I had to stand up to let her out. Not a huge deal, but very distracting.
The food is good but the cost is absurd. It’s akin to a special occasion restaurant and while Bricolage is truly good, it’s not a place to travel out of the way for, let alone to pay $20 something for a fried vegetable based appetizer. The spicy garlic noodles with chicken were great, but sorry - a meal like that shouldn’t cost $30. For similar flavors, there are other Vietnamese and southeast Asian restaurants. And at that price point, you can access some really special restaurants, some even in the same neighborhood. Last note is that the staff is really nice and go out of their way to accommodate. I’d probably only go back if it was someone else’s idea.
First time here, the food was incredible! I had the mushroom wontons, garlic noodle with tofu, so AMAZINGLY good. My boyfriend had the grilled Vietnamese chicken and he loved it. Cocktails also incredible, GG’s brother was my fav but Thai Basil gimlet and the mimosa were really nice as well. Aside from that service and ambience were equally lovely. The backyard patio is so cute and we loved the vibe. Our waitress and the owner’s son were so nice and provided excellent service. We will definitely be back and I can’t wait to explore their menu some more.
Shrimp pork crepe was crisp, savory umaminess. Wings are good although could be a little crisper and a touch more salt. Cocktails are really thoughtful, almost as thoughtful as the service. Crab clear noodles are solid as well. Leave there feeling like you get your monies worth.
We are regulars at this place experiencing all their services (Dinner and Brunch) The food is great but has become way too pricey, especially after the tail end of 2020. It’s a place worth trying but also recommend checking out other spot that are even Michelin rated around in both Brooklyn and Soho that are less $$$
One of my favorite places to eat in the whole city! The vibe is immaculate, the food is DELICIOUS, the staff and owners are truly amazing people. It is always the highlight of my day when I get to come to Bricolage with friends. I highly recommend it! Every plate Ive gotten was amazing and the drinks and dessert really top it all of. LOVE!
Delicious food, great service, many COVID-friendly seating options. We needed to bring a party of 7 and they were extremely helpful and accommodating. We especially enjoyed the papaya salad with shrimp, the red snapper, and the ribs, but everything was delicious. We had eaten here another time a few years ago, and this time, it was actually much better -- quality of food and service have only improved, which is probably pretty hard to pull off in current conditions! We will be back!
Really nice food, but the other reviews are absolutely correct: it’s very expensive, even for the neighborhood. We had two of their banh mis for brunch, and they were great and the portions were good—the grilled pork banh mi was particularly tasty. They were each $21, which is pretty steep for a sandwich. Would love to come back for their dinner
Great vibe and atmosphere. Friendly staff. Tried the Cup-o-Pho and Green Papaya Salad. Both were great. For drinks tried and loved the Maple Walnut Old Fashioned and the Yukatan Sour. The Beets by Dre and All of the Thyme were interesting, but not the most easily drinkable, nor my cup of tea.
This review is for delivery order only.I have gotten their food via pickup order before and it was great. Very delicious. So I wanted to order delivery. As it will always help the restaurant, we should order from the business using their own website. The delivery experience was not as expected this time but I think they can improve in the future. I placed an order at 1:06pm and called at 1:57 to check, and they still don’t have a delivery person available. Our food was ready when I called. Unfortunately the food arrived cold. The restaurant called after to check in and explained that was a staff mistake and offered refund. I appreciate their customer service. I wanted my husband to try this place but he had to leave for the airport. He ended up ordering from a taco place that comes quicker.Since the weather is getting warmer now, I would go and get fresh food from Bricolage. If you have to order, still should use their website to help them avoid fees charged by the other platform.
Once upon a time this place was awesome. We had to wait for an open table. The pho was so-so, but my wife’s cumin chicken was very tastey. Highly recommend the crispy spring roll( best item on the menu). The prices have escalated since my last visit - you are not getting out of here (2 diners) for under $100.
This was one of the best meals Ive had in a long time. The maple glazed duck is a dish that I wont soon forget. The hot apple cider was the icing on the cake for a perfect fall meal. The atmosphere was quirky and interesting. The service was great. The owner was friendly and engaging. We will definitely be back.
Im not too impressed. It just seems very overpriced for the quality of food served (say compared to Hanoi House in East Village).Pho ga: chicken was good and there was a good amount of herbs. But the noodle was way overcooked. Too much meat - noodle ratio. They put too much jalapeño in it. I dont enjoy spicy food - jalapeno should be an optional garnish.Claypot shrimp: too much chili oil, looks more like Sechuan than Vietnamese. The ends of bok choy werent properly trimmed - impossible to eat. It seems like a basic food prep skill.
Pretty backyard, but the food was SUBPAR at best. I love Vietnamese food but It was bland, dry and underwhelming. You will find a better fried red snapper anywhere else, curry shrimp had a very strange flavor (it wasn’t good), duck was fatty, but at least had flavor. The shrimp claypot was okay, but they forgot to bring the rice until we asked for it. The crab wontons were doused in goopy sauce to the point where i could have been eating any mystery meat. The garlic noodles were so-so. Service started out strong but then everyone’s dishes came out at different times (over a 25 minute span), so everyone was eating at different times. The waiters were okay, but lots of communication problems between the wait staff, kitchen, and management. People say this place is usually good, but i was not a fan and i left hungry.
We stumbled upon this place for brunch and had no idea its a very popular Vietnamese gastropub in this area.Surprisingly, it was easy to get a table, albeit we were seated right by the door so all the hungry people waiting to be seated could watch us eat. I got the Unshaking Beef & Eggs and my boyfriend got the Spicy Garlic Noodles. The beef was just ok. There were pieces that were a little on the rarer side for my taste (you could see little pink spots of blood), and also pieces that were tough and sinewy. The garlic noodles looked just ok, and they tasted fine. Nothing to write home about. That said, I would be down to come here again and try something else from the menu like the banh mi or the five spiced fried chicken and waffles.
Unshaking beef, spicy garlic noodles, shrimp curry - all on point and a great combo of flavors. Jicama mango salad ho hum. Crispy imperial roll - amazing. Gimlet cocktail reminded of sour patch. Great setting, crowded on the street and inside. Would be happy to go again
This restaurant is a personal favorite for me. The food here is modern Vietnamese fusion tapas and everything on the menu is amazing. I highly recommend the shaking beef, pork belly tacos, shrimp clay pot, five spice wings, imperial spring rolls, fried chicken & waffles and lastly their coconut tapioca pudding is BOMB! Oh and the drinks are sooo good ask for the stroller with gin ;)
Bricolage is my absolute favorite restaurant in the neighborhood. The staff is great and the menu is even better. It is a little pricy, but you get what you pay for. A lot of effort has gone into this restaurant and it shows. Every time I come here I leave very satisfied, and ready to plan my next trip back.
Bricolage has a very cute garden space for seating. Service was good. The food was tasty. We went to celebrate my friends birthday. What stands out about this place is that we were having a very controversial conversation and the owner overheard. Surprisingly he joined for a minute. In case you are wondering the conversation was about race and current events which are sensitive topics, even more so given all thats happened. This is a restaurant for a variety of occasions: dates, bdays, friends, family
The food hits the spot in this cold weather. The pho bo was served hot and it was delicious. The noodles were chewy, and the stock was flavorful. I can only imagine how many hours the stock was simmering for in the pot!The banh xeo exterior was crispy with a light brown crust, and it did not get soggy from the shrimp and bean sprouts interior. They did not skimp on the ingredients for this one.Lastly, the house pickles were a good treat to have with these two dishes. I did not have the five spice fries, but could smell it from the table across from me and wished I had the stomach space for it!In addition to the food, Bricolage has a charming backyard seating with vintage pieces for its decor. The open kitchen lets you watch how these delicious bites are put together. The staff were friendly throughout the whole meal. Overall a satisfied and fun experience.
Havent eaten here yet, but we popped in for a cocktail. Our server was casual and fun and you could tell he took pride in their drinks. He explained the drinks and the best way to really appreciate them. I love specialized cocktails and I enjoy their passion in their craft. Will definitely be back to try their dishes!
This place is so special. We had the shrimp Bahn mi that was out of this world. The bread to stuffing ratio was perfect and each bite was bursting with flavor and texture.Aside from the great food the place has a beautiful garden in the back that has been carefully curated by the owner Mier- he is an artist and has collected artifacts that have influenced his form of expression and of course, mixed in with beautiful plants he takes care of.Highly recommend!!
The duck was amazingly cooked and the flavors were on point. The only reason it is not 5 stars is due to my lackluster Vietnamese Coquito. It literally just tasted like milk and cinnamon.Otherwise, the restaurant is super chill and laid back with a diverse Playlist dating back to early 90s hip-hop.
Ordered the Vermicelli bowl with chicken and a side of brussel sprouts. Chicken was cooked perfectly and the brussel sprouts were nice and crispy (love crispy brussel sprouts yum!). Food and drinks were very tasty and the outdoor dining experience was also great. The back patio was rustic and filled with plants. Every staff member we encountered was super sweet and provided great customer service. Felt like a mini getaway during these times of COVID
Bricolage is literally an oasis. At a time when so much about the world sucks, to be able to go to such a beautiful space, feel safe, eat delicious food and HAVE FUN is something I dont take for granted. But Bricolage provides all of that. So as my wife was celebrating a big milestone, I started considering the possibility of throwing her a small party in their backyard. It felt like a risky proposition and I worried that few of her friends and family would want to come. But somehow, enough people agreed to make it feel worthwhile. And I couldnt have asked for a better partner than Bricolage. Their owners and staff were so kind, so thoughtful and so detail-oriented that the party went off beautifully. Everyone felt safe. Everyone was blown away by how delicious the food was. And for the first time since March, everyone HAD FUN. Thank you Bricolage!
Beautiful place, personable owner and son who waiting on our table. The food was very tasty and recommend you order for the table and share. The rolls were very tasty, and dessert was perfect way to end of evening. The owner described the meaning of Brolicolage, so recommend you explore that with him.
We had the ribeye and the whole fish with the papaya salad and everything was great. The cocktails were all delicious including the dessert cocktail. The one aspect I didnt love was the bacon fat that ended up in my Maple bacon old fashioned...It was a nice drink but I wasnt expecting to have to drink around pieces of fat.
Innovative and delicious flavour combinations. My favourites are the unshaking beef & the shrimp claypot — get the side of crispy Brussels sprouts as well! Bricolage has a cute garden in the back for outdoor seating and is a great spot for date nights. Service is also friendly and helpful (it’s a family-run restaurant) but can be pretty inconsistent at times during peak hours with missing dishes, awkward timing of entrées, disappearing servers, etc.
Had an amazing time at this Gem of a place in Park Slope. The service was excellent it almost felt like we were invited to a friends backyard. Loved the scallops and Banh Mi and was so taken away by the unique an delicious cocktails. Works for a big group as well as for date night
Had a very good brunch. The Vietnamese flavors fused with the more traditional Western dishes makes the food unique. You wont find the same experience anywhere else. Cocktails were good too, even the mocktails. Only note is that the service is a little inexperienced compared to most of the other places in the neighborhood.
This place has gone SO downhill. We used to like going here but we went with friends a couple of months ago, the meat tasted chewy and awful, had to send it back. Decided to give it another chance, just picked up food to go found the check (literally the piece of paper) inside my food. That’ll be it, never going back.
My boyfriend and I ate brunch in their beautiful backyard garden. The owners were incredibly friendly, masked (covid era), and provided great service. When we were scorching in the summer heat, we moved to a partially shaded spot. As the sun encroached on our spot, they manually cranked open their awning to ensure we stayed comfortable and cool(ish).Oh right, and the food and drink? Delicious! I had a salad and the boyfriend had the pho. We ate every last bite. The tomato juice they use in their bloody mary is freshly made in-house - creating a surprisingly refreshing, light bloody mary that is a little too drinkable. If youre in the area, I highly recommend that you give this place a try.
Excellent authentic Asian cuisine further refined to appeal to both aesthetics and our Asian palette. Amazing service from all staff beginning with bartender who handed me a glass of freshly squeezed juice after I commented how much I miss having fresh fruits! Hot towel service throughout meal typefies Asian restaurant hospitality that is a breath of fresh air when travelling out here! Kudos to the chef and staff and the homey decor. Love the outdoor garden ambience seating too!
Very nice place. Expensive, but arent they all in this part of Brooklyn. About $250 for dinner with five people. Beef Curry was very flavorful. Veggie crape with mushrooms also has a lot of character. Chocolate peanut butter pie- very nice. Didnt like the tapioca pudding all that much.
Had dinner here last night. food was phenomenal, the service brisk, and we ended up lingering awhile and got to chat with one of the waiters, who explained a bit of what theyre aiming for with the place. I think they nailed it. Upscale Vietnamese, but also Vietnam-izing some things you wouldnt normally see in a Vietnamese restaurant. We had the blackened Shisito peppers, the vegetarian summer roll, the deviled eggs, the pork rib appetizer, and shared the pork chop main, and finished with pudding that had rice, mango, tapioca and some other delicious things in it. A bottle of tempranillo accompanied. Thanks for a lovely evening with delicious food. The highlights would probably be the pork dishes (amazing, cooked perfectly, tender and flavorful and surprising), the peppers (hotter than we bargained for, but awesome), dessert, and... hell, everything was great.
Gave this place a go for dinner following a recommendation and it gets a thumbs up. The servers were friendly and knowledgeable with a good level of attentiveness. I shared the Vietnamese Crepe followed by the Unshaking Beef & Peeky-Toe Crab - all were delicious. They offer a range of cocktails as well as wine. There was a trendy crowd on my visit and id say its a place for couples or small groups, as you can order a range of plates and eat them tapas style. Ill be going back again in a few months time to sample different parts of the menu.
If youre looking for actual Vietnamese food, go elsewhere. When we asked the server about some of the dishes she didnt have knowledge about most of them. But if you want to over-spend on bastardization of Viet food, maybe this place is for you.The food itself was *okay*, but nothing special. Probably wont ever come back. Ambiance was cozy though I guess?
The whole place is like a work of art. The style is a kind of weird blend of grunge meets classy that really works! Some of the most interesting works of art hand from the wall. Food and service was fast and great. Had the vegetarian summer rolls and the 5 spice fried chicken sandwich with a refreshing blood orange ginger beer. Really enjoyed it and would go again. Oh! And youve got to check out their restroom! Its so cool.
Ive only ever been here for lunch and the food has always been outstanding. They have a limited lunch menu at a great price and a lovely garden for the summer months. The temperature in the restaurant is on the cooler side during the winter.. the walls are pretty old and cold and I was happy to have my warm jacket to lean on. Staff is very attentive and knows their stuff!
The food was good and I loved the vibe, music, and art.My boyfriend and I have been careful with COVID, only doing outdoor dining. So we made reservations for the outdoor garden. When we arrived there were several empty tables and only 1 other group of 3 that was 6 feet away. We felt ok, despite this area being totally enclosed to keep heat in. I was surprised that they called it outdoors given the way it was enclosed in all areas. Shortly after, many other groups came in. They packed us in, my boyfriend was back to back with another table 2 feet away. We wore out masks for a few pets of the night until finally packing our food to go.People’s safely should be everyone’s first priority. This place did not care about that. And if there is some sort of ventilation system that no one can see allowing that to be called safe, I’d love to understand how. Please create a safe space, and limit the amount of people occupying you enclosed outdoor garden. This is not ok.
What a nice experience place for brunch. It was not overrun with people. Its not too loud. The menu is very exciting for brunch since its a Vietnamese restaurant so there were lots of choices beyond the usual benedicts and pancakes you can get everywhere. There were also some fun fusion ideas like the chicken and waffles which didnt try this time. The portions are generous. The service was a little inconsistent, but everyone was very personable. We enjoyed the papaya salad and Imperial spring rolls to start. We LOVED the Banh Xeo turmeric rice crêpe with mushrooms. We added bacon to it and I used the nouc cham sauce that came with the soup on it since thats how my Vietnamese friends serve this dish.Unfortunately, the duck soup was a little disappointing. It was fairly bland and the noodles were a little overcooked. It would have looked better and tasted better with some bean sprouts and some Thai basil, more like pho.Well definitely be back!
Awesome little Vietnamese fusion spot. Some of the apps are the usual Vietnamese fare but must of the entrees are fusion. Definitely recommend the Fish and Chips. Wait staff is very friendly. The chefs usually come out to greet us and check if everything is good. Only been there for lunch though so I dont know what the dinner service is like.
Arrived a little before 7 PM for our 7PM reservation for a party of 6. Hardly anyone was there, they seated us right away and brought us tap water. From then on, the waiter didnt come by at all until 7:30PM and thats after we waved him down because he wasnt coming by. While we watched him go to all the other tables that sat after us. Throughout the service, they barely came over. We waited a while for our food and then when it finally came, the waiter didnt come back at all until we waved him down for the check. We didnt get water refills until we asked the bus boy for water. We pulled out a card to pay and then it took the waiter again another 15 minutes until he came back to get it when we waved him down. They charged a mandatory 20% tip on the bill and didnt actually provide any service to earn that, which was probably because they knew they were charging the 20% tip anyways. Also, it was not noted on the menu anywhere that they were going to charge 20% for tips for a larger group. If they didnt provide such horrible service, the 20% on top would have been okay. The receipt had an option to add tip on top of the ridiculous amount they already charged on top of the bill. We sat at 7PM, didnt get to order until 7:30PM, left the restaurant at 9:10PM while taking only 20 minutes to eat. Most of it was waiting. Some of the food was good, some were mediocre. The beef chips they had were just dehydrated thin slices of beef and there were only a few pieces for $8. We had chicken wings, they were seasoned well. The emerald rolls were good. For main course we had the pork chop and steak and those were good. Other items on the menu was not all that impressive. Not impressed and will not be going back.
This was one of the best dining experiences I have had in years, living in New York. The food was spectacular, the service top notch and the space warm and elegant. Its a worthwhile place to make a destination. Once you do, youll come back- ribs, crepes, crazy good desserts... dont miss out.
Sat at the bar, savored five different and fabulous cocktails and grazed on multiple appetizers - deviled eggs, tripe, sriracha butter wings, sweetbreads and summer rolls. Before we headed out we each had a cup of pho. Each dish delicious and unique. Sitting at the bar allowed us to see the talented mixologists at work. Both friendly and informative - you can see the love and talent they put in to each drink. Great experience and left with the perfect buzz and a full stomach. Couldnt have been better!
The food was great, very tasty and unique. The COVID precautions seemed good at first: sanitizer given upon seating and a contactless menu. They have a lovely garden that is nearly but not quite as packed as usual (they leave the middle seats open at the big middle table) as well as street-side seating in 5th Ave., which was closed. But then I saw that the guy doing the plating had his mask around his chin, leaving his nose and mouth exposed indoors. Moreover, the credit card transaction was pre-COVID style, even with a likely germ infected pen. The service was alright but somewhat distracted, even though no one was dining indoors.
Bricolage is a homey, ultra casual, just walked into your aunts house kind of place. Youll feel welcomed and cozy there with authentic Vietnamese dishes and flavors that will overjoy your palate. The plates are on the small side, but all the better for sharing and tasting. Get the summer rolls, the egg omelet and the side of snap peas. Make reservations, you wont be disappointed!
I ordered the phobo expecting some (hopefully) decent beef and bone brothWhat I received was a side salad of undressed bean sprouts and mint leavesThe soup was 99% noodles and contained an entire 3 pieces of bite sized beef that tasted of nothing but saltThe broth also just tasted like salt water. Nothing like the deeply flavorful bone broths of a restaurant that makes their food properly, not needing to mask the rich natural flavors with heart-attack inducing levels of salt.
The worst service ever. Waited 50 minutes for our food (a burger and a sandwich) and even then never received it so we walked out. The waitress lied about the kitchen having a problem instead of owning up to her mistakes and asking the kitchen to fire our food right away. It was the lying and the incompetent lack of follow up when she knew she made an error that really blew it. Ive been a server and I know people make mistakes but take responsibility and deal with it appropriately.
We had a group of six people sitting in the very nice rear patio. The apps of pigs ear and nom nom chips were ok but tiny in size. Everyone was pretty let down by the entree food, especially after waiting over an hour for it. Inexcusable when you have 4-5 staff in the kitchen and a pretty empty restaurant at the time. My meal of fish on noodles was luke warm and the shrimp dish was literally a few shrimp in a sauce with no side of rice or anything else. We got fed up waiting for the check so walked in and paid it. For this price it was a major letdown. Go to Ki Sushi instead. That place was incredible.
Bricolage was WOW. I went this past weekend for brunch- while I typically would be interested in a more carb-y brunch, this was such a great step outside of my box.I got the vegetarian banh xeo which was a crepe with eggs and beansprouts and mushrooms. It was bomb and honestly filling- Im not sure if I was supposed to eat it with my hands, but I did and the sauce was addictive. We also checked in to get the summer roll. Good work, kitchen team! The business is built on being sustainable and it shows from the solace of the nature-y backyard to it being a renewably powered restaurant. The owners care about building a bit of the natureness of Vietnam in Park Slope and Im here for it
I don’t do many posts. It has to be pretty good. Let me preface this by saying I have been in hospitality industry as a bartender and waitress for years. It takes a lot for a restaurant to make it in NY for any amount of time. I feel this will and can keep it going if they keep up what they are doing. They have happy devoted employees that are willing to go above and beyond and be genuinely smiling and happy about it. Of course food and drinks are always the star of the show, but in an area where it takes “extra special” to make it, they have what it takes. Of course their food is excellent. Exciting and adventurous. Their drinks follow the same characteristics. Tyler the bartender, pours his life experiences into his drinks, bringing in cocktails from around the world. He also has more of what it takes to be “special”. He actually spends a little time with all his customers, generally moving onto a second drink concoction that is not on the menu but fits your desires. Of course art takes time. If you are in a rush, this may not be the dinner experience you want. But I’m sure if you told them in advance you had time restrictions, they would probably do their best. They are those kind of people. I live in NJ and come to NY maybe once a year at the most. I would definitely come all the way here just for this.
Ive been meaning to come here for literal months. And boy, the wait was totally worth it! I got the duck breast salad and the salt lemon pie. Both were out of this world good. The duck breast was amazingly well prepared. Its wasnt too fatty as duck breast can be and had an awesome flavor. Honestly, do yourself a favor and try this place out, you wont regret it.
Cant comment on the food because we never even had a chance to try it. Arrived early for an 8:15 res, were told the table wasnt ready. At 8:30 were told that the table still wasnt ready as the people were just lingering, nothing they can do about it according to an unsympathetic maitre d. At 8:45 we left considering no one had even checked in with a status. This is NYC, I realize reservations run late, but they were rude and obviously could care less if we stayed and waited for another 30 minutes or left. Wont be back and wont recommend to others.
Having eaten at Bricolage three times now, I would consider it a good local spot, but not amazing. The food is creative, with the dinner menu generally outperforming brunch/lunch. I recommend the unshaking beef, though it is quite pricey. The décor and ambiance are great – ask to be seated in the back garden if weather/capacity permit. However, there are often families with young children, which is to be expected given the Park Slope location.Overall, I enjoy Bricolage, but would recommend Khe-Yo in Tribeca for those seeking an even better execution of Southeast Asian cuisine.
I visit this nice looking restaurant this evening, alone. In short, they dont welcome single customer to dine in. I stood in front of the counter for like 10 mins, and finally I got the chance to let them know Im dining alone. Then I wait for 30 minutes without any notice about the wait time, and, at least 3 groups of 2 party customers go in before me, even they came after me. I saw empty tables right in front of me and I couldnt get a meal. This is so ridiculous.
I had a really great experience here because the service and ambiance is nice. I just didnt have a great food experience. I appreciate that Bricolage is doing something different, it just didnt quite hit the mark. They also messed up our entree orders and we ended up waiting for an hour.
If there is one thing lacking in the neighborhoods surrounding Park Slope, Cobble Hill, Downtown BK, Carrol Gardens -- its some good Viet food. Unfortunately, Bricolage fell well short of delivering on this promise. We checked it out for lunch and got the summer rolls, chicken pho, and beef pho. The phos were wayyy to salty and we had to return the chicken one due to this. The staff was happy to allow us to trade the pho for a bhan mi -- which unfortunately was made with stale bread. Perhaps just a bad day -- but will probably not go back for a 2nd chance.

2022-02-17Got a tip from my friends that this was one of their favorite restaurants when they lived in Brooklyn. Got the imperial rolls to start which were delicious, the shrimp clay pot was incredible - the sauce is so so good I wanted to pour it on everything. And also had a noodle dish which was great. Awesome atmosphere, good cocktails. Loved it!

2021-11-03We had an excellent experience here! The food was flavourful and so fresh! I was transported to my time in Hanoi! Our server Nick have us really good recommendations and we even got to chat with the proprietor, Miro, who is super friendly and welcoming. I also really appreciated the decor of Bricolage. It is very quirky and makes you feel at home! Definitely worth visiting!!!

2022-01-31Very quirky Vietnamese place with a French influence. They clearly have something going on with old TVs. The food is delicious, especially the lamb buns, lamb broad noodles and the beef. The service was super friendly and vibe really cool. Very highly recommended

2022-04-17Ambience is very cute and hip, and they have a great covered outdoor seating area. Service was excellent! The food was good too, but fell a bit short because there were certain things that were a bit overdone (ex: too much sauce)Overall great place for brunch and to try some vietnamese/vietnamese inspired dishes

2021-11-06Came here for dinner on a Friday night. The backyard area is beautifully decorated and the lighting at night gives it a fantastic vibe. The lamb and pork buns were my favorite dishes. Pork chop was okay. Place is expensive so be ready to spend $50 per person w/o drinks and around $100 if you get multiple drinks

2022-01-24The atmosphere is definitely really nice, but personally I think the chicken in their pho is plain and loose, the rice noodles is thin and falls apart easily- just feel a little lifeless if you know what I mean.

2021-05-31I wish we had tried this place sooner! What a fun place, in Park Slope. Good atmosphere and had brunch in their outdoor backyard that also has coverage, if its too sunny, or rains. Good size patio to hold people, but not feel crowded. A very cute and eclectic setup. The food is so good weve gone back a few times already the past month, for brunch. Ive read reviews of others here and I dont understand the ones with issues. Portion sizes leave you very full and the dishes we chose have a lot of flavor.Start off with iced Vietnamese coffee and Bloody Marys, we had their Unshaking Beef & Eggs, Open Faced Mushroom omelette, Five Spiced chicken & Waffles (which were crispy and juicy!), delicious side of brussel sprouts and other dishes. Oh, we also got their Spicy Garlic Noodles with Steak and boy they are serious when they say spicy. If youre not sure if you can handle it, you can ask for the spice on the side to add to your own content.Yes, it may not be the cheapest food, but for the price you expect quality and good ingredients and thats what you get. Go try it! Well be back ourselves to try more dishes.

2021-09-06Vietnamese cuisine, atmospheric dining, unparalleled in the borough. Tonight I had the Hawker style broad noodles, served with a generous portion of marinated flank steak. The cocktail list is special and does not disappoint. While the appetizer list is not hurting for options, it’s very hard to go wrong with the Crispy Imperial Rolls:Pork, shrimp, glass noodle, wood ear mushroom,, fresh herbs, served with lettuce and spicy fish sauce.
