I highly recommend Bronx Jiujitsu. Both my daughters are in their kids program, they love it and always look forward to their classes! The coaches are dedicated, knowledgeable and patient with all kids.I recently signed up for the adult program and have already learned so much.Great place, great coaches - all around great vibe - what more can you ask for?
I purchased their four week trial back in May of 2021. I was very nervous about trying jiujutsu, but the instructors here were very welcoming. Despite being instructors, they were very helpful and personable. They never made me feel like I couldn’t ask questions or could not come to them for help. All the instructors here are extremely knowledgeable and well respected in the gym. They emphasize a safe learning environment centered around family. That sense of being apart of a jiujutsu family is what got me to continue my training past the four week trial!
Bronx Jiu Jitsu is a wholesome environment like no other. Its a great place for people of all backgrounds and skill levels to train. The dedicated students make this place a wholesome and fun for people just looking to grow and enjoy themselves, but also scratches that competitive itch if youre looking for it. This school has cultivated so many dedicated BJJ athletes.
We Love Bronx Jiu Jitsu! As a mother of a teenager I am so happy my son has a place to go that is filled with caring, supportive and motivating coaches. Bronx Jiu Jitsu does a wonderful job helping its students learn to grow in their physical, mental and social well-being. Thank you for a safe and dedicated environment to learn and grow.
Been with Bronx Jiu Jitsu since 2015. Family oriented . Team and energy is unbelievable. Always learning. Always grinding. Great teammates. Coaches and professors are always at the ready to drop them jewels of BJJ knowledge. Personally , it transforms you to a different mindset when your feet touch the mat.
Bronx Jiu-Jitsu is a safe place to train and learn. I consider this place a second home! Instructor Junior and Coach Jeson are knowledgable and dedicated individuals. My self-confidence has improved dramatically. I feel so comfortable here that I bring my scouts and family members every Sunday to train in the Jiu-Jitsu 101 Class.I am a Proud Student of Bronx Jiu-Jitsu!- Tony (Aka: Jumbo Shrimp, Morning Crew Lead, Former Blue Belt Killer, and Soon to be Purple Belt Killer)
This Gym is absolutely amazing!!! Every coach is super attentive and caring. I’ve been a member for 6+ months I’ve never had an issue . Everyone has been so patient and helpful with my own journey. The people I’ve met aren’t just training partners they’ve become family . I highly recommend this Gym . Professor Junior and Lou are the BEST!!!!! Along with everyone else at Bronx Jiu Jitsu ….. NOW go sign up you won’t regret it !!!!!
My daughter started Jiu Jitsu for the first time with BXJJ. The coaches have been great handling the kids. My daughter looks forward to training and has learned a lot, gained confidence, and is starting to pick up a very applicable skill. Can’t recommend this place enough.
I’ve been in gyms for over thirty years, and none has made me feel more comfortable than this one. I may be a bit biased, because Prof. Ortega was my teammate for years, but he and his crew at BXJJ is top notch. I’m a black belt in BJJ, Judo and Japanese Jiu Jitsu, and when I sold my own school and left my old coach, I knew there was only one person for me to train with. In just six weeks at BXJJ, my game has already evolved. For the perfect blend of old school basics and new school cutting edge techniques along with a warm, exciting atmosphere, Bronx Jiu Jitsu is the spot.
In this present world, at this moment we are faced with many physical and mental debacles. This facility cannot be considered a school for it has helped personally cope with what has and continues to transpire. It is a temple that has alleviated the tumultuous worldly events, and healed every aspect of mind, body and spirit. Highly recommend this place to help you come out of your comfort zone!
My daughter joined Bronx Jiu-Jitsu in August 2017. Within two months, we noticed she was more confident and alert. The coaches at Bronx Jiu-Jitsu make the classes and training fun. The kids learn quickly and are taught advanced skills when ready, and are pushed when needed. It’s a place where you feel immediately welcomed and feel like you are one big family.
My Son is turning 6 and has been going to BJJ for a little over 1 year. X3 days a week and he loves it! We love it as the coaches & staff are extraordinary role models that create an environment of learning, discipline, development, focus & fun . The coaches and younger assistants make classes at a level of one on one training. Its amazing to see the attention each individual student gets. Truly great development opportunity for any parent to provide there kids.
If youre looking for a place to learn from knowledgeable and dedicated instructors and train with amazing partners, who make you feel like family from day one, Bronx Jiu Jitsu is the perfect school for you. Theyve created an atmosphere thats great for everyone; man or woman, young or old, beginner or highly skilled (and everything in between). I cant imagine a better place to learn and grow in my knowledge and passion for this amazing art.
One of the best BJJ schools I have ever been to! After moving to the Bronx I felt lost not being able to find a gym untill I walked into BRONX BJJ! Juan “Junior” Ortega is a fantastic instructor and along with the great group of men and Women who are more then willing to help a new person feel welcome I think this would be a Perfect place for anyone at any level in their jujitsu journey to join!I will be coming here for a long time!
I have been training here for over 4 years and I have the same amazing experience from the moment I stepped through the door. The instructors are the best you can find in the Bronx and are staunchly dedicated to the martial arts and ensure they project those same emotions and ethics to each and every student. Students typically follow the example set by the head instructors in leaving egos at the door and are inviting to new faces. The academy is great mixture between top level instruction and also for busting out a great sweat and meeting your fitness goals. The community in the academy formed by these individuals and their involvement in the greater Martial Arts community is an ideal place for anybody with any level of interest. Definitely the number one choice in martial arts in the Bronx!
I started training here because it was close to the library where I worked but it quickly became a second home to me. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. There is a family vibe to the school that is amazingand welcoming but if you want to get competitive and turn it up a notch there is room for that too.Whenever Im in NYC I make sure that I get training in on these mats.If youve never done Jiu-Jitsu before give it a try and it will change your life.If you are looking for a place to continue your Jiu-Jitsu journey this is a wonderful place to learn.
Wonderful academy!! If youre looking for a dojo specializing in authentic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and ego-free environment, look no further. Our head coach, Professor Junior Ortega is an excellent teacher and a true lover of the art. He is patient, approachable, and humble as it reflects in his academy and students. With his great attention to detail he is an instructor who will invest his time into YOU his student. As a woman and single mother to blindly step into a dojo that specializes in this combative male-dominated sport I can say the staff at Bronx Jiu-Jitsu has successfully cultivated a culture of true fellowship. This amazing team will pour into you on and off the mats. My son (5yrs) and I have been attending this school for 2 years now and I am proud to call them my team, it has become my second home. Hands down the best atmosphere to learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the Bronx/NYC region. Any school without these qualities is unacceptable. Try us out!
Bronx Jiu Jitsu is so much more then a school, its a home. From the day I enrolled my son they have been nothing but great with him. I have seen him learn and grow so much. Coach Jeson and Professor Junior have the perfect balance of structure while still keeping in mind they are training KIDS and making it fun. BJJ also supported myself and my family through a very difficult and personal time last year. I will forever be grateful for that.Every Saturday my son wakes up excited and ready to train. We love our BJJ family.
Bronx Jiu-Jitsu is a friendly environment and the amazing people inside treat each other as family. The coaches knowledge in the art of grappling is as deep and legit as the love they have for the art and those who practice it with them. I enjoyed my time here and will continue to for years to come.
Training at Bronx Jiu jitsu has really improved my 4-year-olds discipline and self-esteem. He moves his body and plays in ways Ive never seen him try before. He stands up for himself more around other kids. Being able to focus in class has translated to better focus at home when we are doing our homeschooling sessions. I truly consider his jiu jitsu training a vital element to his curriculum. Coach Jeson and Coach Junior are incredibly attentive and patient with the children-- they thrive under their care. My son looks up to his coaches in a way I havent seen with anyone else other than his father. My husband and I also train here and I love the family setting. They make you feel at home and a part of an awesome community. In a male-dominated sport, Im glad to see such a strong representation of women in our school. I love Bronx jiu jitsu and I look forward to every day I get to train there!
Our family loves BRONX Jiu Jitsu! My 5 y/o son as been attending the school for approximately 1.5 years. We’ve seen tremendous growth in his confidence, coordination, and strength. All of the coaches are dedicated and extremely knowledgeable. The environment is impeccably clean and it’s very family friendly. I would highly recommend BXJJ
I started training at Bronx Jiu-Jitsu in August 2016 and I can honestly say it has been nothing but a positive experience. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu can be an intimidating experience for anyone at first, but both the coaches and the members will welcome you with open arms. The coaches at Bronx Jiu-Jitsu are dedicated, patient, and want to see you grow. My little brother also attends the teens classes and I have watched him become not only a strong and confident fighter, but also a strong and confident person. If you are looking to learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, this is definitely the place to go!
Bronx Jiu Jitsu has become more than just a home away from home - it’s a place of growth and exploration. If you want the most detailed and didactic instruction possible, this is the right place for you. Soon I’ll have been here for 3 years and I refuse to be anywhere else. The family atmosphere, competitive nature (if you wish to compete), and the amazing workout/lesson you receive every class makes it worth the next time. Even the most frustrating days lead to some sort of growth in you as an individual and a martial artist. People come here with all sorts of goals in mind, and every single one will be met here.
I never even got to take a class. I scheduled my free class, traveled all the way there (40 min ride one way), only to be told the class was too advanced for me. Even though it was an available option when registering. Not to mention the class is listed as BJJ 101. I listed on the questionnaire I was a beginner, so why didnt anyone notify me when I scheduled my class? I was confused and frustrated. I still decided to give them another chance and schedule the class over the phone the next day. Only for the receptionist to tell me the next available spot was 2 weeks later, when the instructor said to come back in two days. I dont even wait that long to see my doctor, why was my experience so difficult when I was trying to give them my money.
Finding Bronx Jiu Jitsu has changed my life and I am so happy for it. I started going to Bronx Jiu Jitsu when I turned 35. It was my first time trying jiu jitsu and it has been the perfect place. There are a lot of women, which is great, but that doesnt matter--everyone is welcoming and supportive. Every class I leave feeling energized and happy. Jiu Jitsu is incredibly empowering; it feels amazing to learn how to use my body the way we do. It really has expanded my mind and its definitely thanks to the instruction and community at Bronx Jiu Jitsu. I cant recommend them enough.
I’ll start the review off by stating that I love Bronx Jiu Jitsu and if you live/work in the area and are considering trying it…you definitely should. In the 4 or so years before walking into BXJJ in August 2018 I had taken somewhere between 5 and 10 jiu-jitsu classes at about 4 different locations between DC and NY. Despite feeling like this was something I really wanted to do, I was never able to find the right place until BXJJ. This review is going to be broken down into what I feel are the relevant aspects of what makes this place special:COST: You will not find a better bang for your buck in terms of cost per class than this. Jiu-jitsu can be an expensive pursuit, especially if/when you really get into it (tournament fees, gis, rash guards, special seminars, etc.) so it’s a huge benefit to take classes at a gym that never makes you feel like you’re being price gouged. That applies to both the regular membership rates as well as the really, really fantastic introductory month specials.ATMOSPHERE: One of the issues I had with the previous places I tried to take jiu-jitsu classes was the stiff atmosphere. Yes, martial arts is serious business, but I’m also a firm believer in occasionally laughing. You’ll find that everyone from the instructors to the students is more than willing to laugh at themselves and each other and that makes it an easy place to be a newcomer and ask questions. At the same time, it is also a really welcoming place where many of the people you meet take tons of classes there and, as a result, are totally comfortable helping you out one on one when something that is taught in class goes over your head.TEACHING: Phenomenal. One of the things that I most appreciate is that you never feel like you are part of a jiu-jitsu factory. Instructors take the time to learn your name/about you and they take care in observing everyone when it’s time to roll so that you get personalized/actionable feedback. I can credit so much of my progress not just to what we are learning within the structure of the 1 hour class, but to the time instructors willingly take to break stuff down with me after class (related, it helps that they try not to pile classes on top of one another back to back to back so there is room for that).FACILITIES: The mats/training area does not stink. This might seem like a little thing, but…go to enough jiu jitsu gyms and trust me you will appreciate this.
Bronx Jiu Jitsu is great environment to learn martial arts. With the help of the amazing staff and dedicated coaches, any of your personal goals can be achieved. Whether youre looking to lose a few pounds or get in shape, learn how to defend yourself, or become an active competitor, Professor Junior and Sensei Nate can help you get there!
BRONX JIU JITSU is a wonderful place. The atmosphere is friendly. The instructors are fabulous and always positive. Staff is like family. Kids also learn leaderships skills, respecting others, punctuality skills besides the educational training classes. They work so well with the children. The atmosphere is always so positive.I highly commend BJJ! So stop by today and register!!
Many academies that teach the gentle art often pride themselves as having an encouraging and family like atmosphere, but I can attest to the truthfulness of these statements in regards to my academy, Bronx Jiu-Jitsu. I started my journey with a Group On trial and never looked back. I was hooked from the moment I stepped foot onto the mats. I went from taking 2 classes a week to, at times, taking 9 classes a week. The superb teaching abilities by Professor Junior Ortega, Coach Nate and Fernando are a godsend. Some BJJ teachers are amazing to watch on the mats, but the Bronx Jiu-Jitsu coaches are not only highly skilled, their ability to teach is what sets them apart. They have the ability to teach 1 move 100 different ways depending on the student. When you walk through the doors of Bronx Jiu-Jitsu for the first time you will not feel intimated, but instead welcomed as if you have been a member for years. Having dealt with anxiety for most of my life you could imagine what it was like to walk into a new space filled with men and women who are capable of submitting you in 2.5 seconds or less. But, at Bronx Jiu-Jitsu, you will be reassured and guided to the point you could relax, learn and become a proper Jiujiteiro. The only thing they ask of you is that you remain dedicated even through the challenging times. As with anything in life, persistence is the secret to becoming great. For those interested in competing and for the Jiu-Jitsu hobbyist: Bronx Jiu-Jitsu will give you the foundation and expertise needed to excel in either direction. BJJ has replaced a void in my life that has been missing for many years and I can honestly say I am addicted. I have never competed in anything until I started training at Bronx Jiu-Jitsu. My teammates and coaches have given me a new sense of pride in my abilities and have given me the confidence I needed to not only have competed after only 3 months of training, but also set a fire inside me to compete more and more. When people say Jiu-Jitsu is a lifestyle you have to understand that it truly is—you are a Jiujiteiro on and off the mats. You will be healthier, happier and able to defend yourself in ways you never thought possible. Bronx Jiu-Jitsu will change your life if you allow it to. Just be ready to put in work.Oss!!!
The Ortega brothers provide a safe haven in our neighborhood that is kid friendly, clean and affordable. Bronx Jiu-Jitsu employs interpersonal skills such as communication, listening, assertiveness, self-control and positive thinking. Bronx Jiu-Jitsu is the perfect place to keep my child active.
I trained here few years ago, and the coaches are very good and professional, I remember one guy held a submission a little longer than her shouldve and junior the instructor, took it pretty seriously, it was much appreciated, and every student should feel they should be able to trust the tap. Great experience none the less here.
A MUST! I’ve been going here for a little over a month now and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. The environment is like a big family, they all want to help you, other higher belts don’t mind practicing with you and slowly taking you step by step! My husband and I updated to the membership 3 weeks after getting the trial (because We wanted to) My husband is already looking into championships to go into, not to mention that he goes as much as he can, even the days I’m not able to come.
Bronx Jiu Jitsu is more than just a martial art academy, they become your family. When I considered training jiu jitsu, I had no prior experience in martial arts at all, plus being a 5 foot, 113 pound female in a male dominated art I was a little nervous. But that all changed once I stepped foot in Bronx Jiu Jitsu. From the moment you start, and every day after, you are greeted with a smile and a handshake. All the coaches at Bronx Jiu Jitsu are in love with the art and what it can do for someones life. They are all great at breaking down the moves and encouraging you to never give up. The awesome thing about this academy is that you dont just learn from the exceptional coaches, but from all the men and woman as well. Some members travel from Queens, Manhattan and even Connecticut just to train here. You will meet people from all walks of life and you will be grateful for each and every one of them. The academy offers morning and night classes, plus weekends too. What I found remarkable about this place is that even after a class is over, no one is in a rush to go home, especially the coaches. They are simply dedicated to each and every student, and you definitely will not find that anywhere else--I guarantee it.For me, this was something new, something exciting, something I didnt even know was missing in my life. I have never wanted to compete in anything before, but you feel like a whole new person just a few weeks in. Now I cant wait to make my school proud in a competition one day.It doesnt matter how strong you are, if you are male or female, this place empowers you, accepts you and simply makes you a happier, better you! I honestly cant see my life with out Jiu Jitsu and I have Bronx Jiu Jitsu to thank for that.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Japanese Jiu-Jitsu, and Judo; all at an affordable price? With instructors who are dedicated to their students and well recognized by the community and culture? Sign me up right away! Your kids will love the place here too! As a member I see we get training that will assist you in competition, MMA, or real life situations. In addition, we hold many seminars hosting world class athletes constantly. JT Torres, Mike Fowler, and many others visit the school on a timely basis. This is a complete school that offers quality as opposed to quantity in size. You will be recognized and you will be tailored. Osssss!
Great coaches, great staff but best of all, great sense of community. From the moment you walk through the doors everyone, from the coaches and staff to the other students, will make you feel welcomed. Never though working out could be so much fun! It has completely changed my life in more ways than I ever thought possible. Dont take my word for it though, come try a class. Guaranteed to have a great time while getting in the best shape of your life.
Very positive place to be with people that take you in as family. You learn a lot and coaches are good at making sure you understand and perform the material correctly. Definitely would recommend anyone to come and bring your family as well. Very clean and safe indoor training area. 👍🏾
Ive been going to bronx jiujitsu for a year and a couple of months now and just yesterday I was promoted to blue belt from professor Junior. To have reached a milestone in my jiujitsu journey, I would have never imagined it in a million years. I remember when I first walked inside of bxjj, scared. I was a very timid and nervous person... never gave things a chance, I had this mentality where I would just set myself up for failure by always telling myself I cant do it before giving things a try. Jiujitsu is hands down one of the hardest things Ive ever done (and doing)Had a hard time doing warmups, picking up on things. Most days it was hard. Its taxing emotionally and mentally. Physically as well. All these aches and pains through the day...Didnt think I would even last... It for sure has not been easy. But by the same token, jiujitsu has been so rewarding to me. Along the way I noticed how its helped me grow as a person. Im not afraid to do things. I give things a chance. I can walk up to people and start a conversation. Jiujitsu has helped me be comfortable being uncomfortable. Its where I met awesome and amazing people I am happy to call my family. Idk why but I kept going. And going. Making sure I pack my gi in my bag so that I can take it to work with me the next day, that way I can go to class once I get out of work. Exhausted, ill still managed to make it to class on time.... I know its just a belt and the grind still continues.. In all, if you want something, go for it and see it through. Learn and grow from it. Hard work pays off! I am grateful for Bronx jiujitsu, it has changed my life in more ways than one!
Excellent Location, Perfect size and community / family appeal, the instruction is world class, its run by two known Black Belts, a champion BJJ Black Belt and a 5th Dan Judo/JJ Black Belt (a beast with his hands), i loved the place so much that my daughter attends the kids classes and she has developed a similar bond with the kids at her level.
Super glad I found this place for my son. BJJ is a family business which indicates higher quality and personalized treatment to each client. My son and I are super happy and therefore we recommend BJJ if you are looking to provide your child or yourself with a tool for life such as Jiu Jitsu.

2022-01-27This place has become second home for my kids, from the events at the school to training multiple times a week. As a parent I can’t ask for a better place to have my kids learn jiu jitsu, life lessons, veggie reports and ninja ball!. The coaches are amazing and they handle the kids really well! My kids have progressed in bjj so much and I’m really proud of them and the Bxjj school. Please drop in for information or call and see you on the mats…

2022-01-28BJJ is a daily life training. Before I joined, I contacted multiple schools. Obviously all the BJJ schools and instructors are great but Bronx Jiu Jitsu gave me an amazing feeling. Attitude & first impressions are very important. Furthermore, the passion for BJJ among the instructors are great. I recommend everyone specially women, Law Enforcement Officers and children should have this experience.

2022-01-27Bronx Jiu-Jitsu is my all-time favorite place to be! I was welcomed to be part of a family that is well-knit, supportive, and caring. Obviously, I couldnt have learned so much without the help and support of my coaches, so the motivation and push to be greater and better is consistent while training here. Without a doubt, I couldnt have found a better place to base my Jiu-Jitsu foundations from. If youre looking for a new place to train or youre just starting out, look no further than Bronx Jiu-Jitsu!

2022-02-03From the moment my son began to attend the gym 2.5 years ago I have been very pleased with the level of training the children receive and how the coaches challenge them weekly with new moves. The coaches are very dedicated, experienced, and committed to seeing the children improve and it shows... The atmosphere is very family friendly and welcoming. Its not all seriousness they have fun too :) The kids love to play a little game time at the end of class.

2021-12-17I was looking for a place to train and I randomly typed in BJJ in the Bronx and I found this school in 2018. I was going through a rough time and needed an outlet. I took the one month trial class and they were friendly and courteous, after my trial was up I knew this was the school to stay with. I know most schools give off the persona of family. Bronx Jiu Jitsu is the prime example of that and I wouldn’t choose anything else.

2022-02-08Beyond happy with this school. My son is always looking forward to his classes. Bronx jiujitsu is not only a place where you can train and learn new skill, its also a place where kids learn discipline and to be responsible. Couches are very professional and the staff always friendly.

2022-01-27I’ve been training here since may 2021. Professors junior and Luis are very professional and show patience and support for all their students. Their knowledge of jiu jitsu is incredible. 2022-01-31I have been a student in Bronx Jiu Jitsu for about 2 years. This school is well organized, professional, and provides quality training in BJJ. It’s a great school for beginners and more advanced students. From my first day on the mats I felt welcomed and at home.
