My wife and I — both in our mid-90s — moved to Brookdale a year-and-a-half ago, after many pleasant years in Northern Westchester — and are very glad we did. The adjustment was surprisingly easy: staff has been unfailingly courteous, helpful, and responsive to our needs. The food is varied and very good. (The recent Christmas Day dinner was outstanding!) The many activities snd programs — movies, concerts, lectures — are interesting and enjoyable. We’ve recommended Brookdale to many of our friends.
Brookdale Battery Park City is situated in an urban oasis of trees & nearby parks. The Hudson River is just around the corner.. It is truly an outstanding facility. There are a multitude of activities, even during the Coronavirus. The staff is friendly and goes out of their way to make residents feel welcome & comfortable. The maintenance staff responds quickly to any problem. There is transportation to medical appointments as well as a doctor on staff. The chef tries hard to accommodate meal preferences with a varied choice of foods including vegetarian items. High end shopping is nearby at Brookfield Place and the Tribeca neighborhood.
Dad recently moved to Brookdale Battery Park City from New Jersey to be near my family here in Manhattan. He has a great apartment, lovely neighbors, lots going on, and all manner of top-notch help if he wants it. I highly recommend Brookdale to families looking for a similar set-up!
We’ve lived here a little over a year - from the first tour, to move-in assistance and ongoing support, it was definitely the right decision. It’s a beautiful place in an amazing neighborhood. They offer numerous activities and when quarantines began, they didn’t skip a beat going virtual with as many activities as they could. All the efforts by management and staff during the many difficult months were outstanding. They have done everything they can to keep us safe and healthy and it’s been working. From needing moderate help to real hands on assistance, they provide it all- would definitely recommend.
Brookdale has been amazing for my mom- great food and top notch programming. And recently their reaction to COVID has been no less than extraordinary. She cannot wait until she partake in all the activities again.
Excellent senior living environment. Brightly lit and beautifully appointed common living spaces. Attractive dining room overlooking a small park across the street. Friendly and attentive staff. One block from Hudson River and walking trails.
The reason I like very much living in this residence is because of the many interesting and lively activities which have been available to those who live here. I take advantage of so many physical and mental stretches to my life. Those who direct activities as well as those of us who participate, enjoy a life style that suits us because can truly enjoy the outdoor as well as indoor activities.
Expensive senior living. Somewhat depressing

2022-05-23Brookdale Battery Park City has been a great place for my mother. She is independent and thrives on the many physical and intellectual activities that are provided. She loves being by the water and takes daily walks on the promenade. The staff has been wonderful and she has made lovely new friends with similar interests.

We are very grateful to the dedicated individuals who have so kindly and graciously contributed to the transition of our mother’s move into a new home environment. 2021-11-03I was nervous about transitioning from living in a house in the suburbs to a New York City senior independent facility, but in hindsight I had nothing to worry about.The staff is incredible. They are friendly and helpful. They make you feel safe. The program staff plan activities that are wonderful.The daily schedule includes various exercise classes, movies, lectures, art classes, and films and tours. We have members of the New York City ballet come to Brookdale as does the star of the metropolitan opera. Juilliard students perform for us. There is a box office where you can sign up for weekly trips to museums shows etc. There are also weekly bus trips to food stores. Getting to doctor appointments are made easy with Brookdale providing transportation.I’ve made friends that I socialize with and attend activities with.We live in a vibrant beautiful neighborhood with many beautiful parks, nearby shopping, and restaurants.I couldn’t be happier.

2020-12-28The staff is excellent and caring. The neighborhood is great for walks.. with parks and greenery it seems more like an upscale suburb of Manhattan - cleaner, quieter. If thats your cup of tea, this could be the place for you. My wife and I moved here from London after 50 years abroad, most of that time as a foreign correspondent for CBS News. We have lived at Brookdale for three years but did not fully realize its value until we saw how well the staff protected and cared for us during the pandemic.

2021-01-04My mom has been living here for over 3 years. She is still very active and loves the various exercise classes, lectures, concerts and events. The instructors and staff are amazing.I have stayed with her a few times and enjoyed the excellent food and the wonderful staff.Before the pandemic they had a lot of opportunities to go to concerts, museums, and other outings together, and since the quarantine the staff has taken excellent care of everyone and provided many Zoom and socially distanced in-person activities.

2021-01-02My Father moved in last November and I have been really impressed with the care and attention they provide for him. Whenever I make a request or if he needs some help with something someone is there almost immediately to attend to his needs. The staff all seem extremely well organized and know the particular needs my dad has. The meal service is great and they tailor everything to his dietary needs. Not to mention the location which is absolutely fantastic with the beautiful battery park city promenade only a block away. My father can take walks when the weather is nice along the waterfront. I couldn’t be happier with Brookdale and definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a place for their elderly loved ones to get the care and attention they need in a place that doesn’t feel like a retirement community at all.

2021-01-02I want to thank everyone at Brookdale Battery Park for the amazing job they have done over the last months of this pandemic. They have made it a safe and pleasant environment with everything going on. They have provided meals to everyone and really taken care of the residents health and well being. It is a wonderful place. In a great neighborhood. Even with the pandemic the residents have been able to walk along the Hudson for exercise.

2021-12-04My brother lives here. He is totally handicapped. Avondale Nursing Services provides his Aides.Brookdale provides his physical environment, i.e. room. , and his meals.I believe his rent is too high for services rendered, but he is happy and safe.

2021-01-04My mom and dad moved here 10 years ago. When Dad needed assistance, the aides were there to provide it and always with a smile. He is no longer with us, but Mom continues to thrive. She loves it and is on many committees and groups. Activites are many and various - cant enumerate them all, but suffice to say that there is something for everyone. My siblings and I always visited her at least once a week before Covid and had many wonderful dinners in the dining room. Mom has many friends here, but unfortunately, she hasnt been able to see them this year, so in lieu of visits with her friends, she especially loves having the ability to walk along the Hudson and in the parks - the location could not be better suited for her and the safety of the area makes us all feel content that she is safe.Since the pandemic hit, we could not be happier with the care and attention given to the residents since we could not be there in person. The daily communications at the beginning of the pandemic were a lifeline to all the families and everyone at Brookdale is so responsive. We feel that Brookdale is the best place for her and we especially appreciate the attentions of Brendan, Leila, Whitney and Dr. Q. We are so happy with Brookdale that we recently had another family member move in and he is very happy, as well. Highly recommended!!!

2021-01-01The Brookdale Battery Park team & administration have been indispensable to my mother (91) after over 3 years of independent living. Especially under the pressures of the pandemic. They transformed into a well organized team that protected their residents by mandating PPE for all residents, testing residents & daily care staff and even to delivering breakfast, lunch and dinner to EVERY resident to help maintain distancing and quarantine for those that needed it.I can’t imagine a better residence in New York City for my Mom to be. The building & equipment are immaculate. Prior to Covid the activities are varied & encourage social interaction that residents enjoy & can create. They’ve had painting, movies, a weekly live pianist and a bustling happy hour, trips to casinos/museums and shopping, sit down white cloth dining with wait staff and so many other events. We’ve always joked Brookdale is basically a cruise ship without the seasickness. It’s a great place for an older loved one to retire & relax. I highly recommend Brookdale if you’re looking.
