Brooklyn Fare in other cities:
I like this place because it’s a grocery store you wouldn’t expect in the neighborhood. It seems they’re only found on the west side of manhattan.Atmosphere: it’s casual, a lot of space, fast pace. You’ll have room to push a cart and walk slowly to browse the goods. Feels clean. Smells clean.Service: the staff is mostly found by the registers. They’re young, friendly, vibrant. They remember your names and faces.Food: they won me over with their chocolate chip cookie. I also question them for selling Entenmann’s baked good but I get it, sometimes you want that commercial good. Their brownie isn’t worth it. Get the chocolate chip. The ice cream selection is great. Their cheese selection is a big. Their produce is always fresh.
Had nothing but good things to say about them until recently. Their prices were generally good and everyone is helpful. Certainly appreciated all their efforts throughout the worst (for now) of the pandemic. But I stopped in recently after my morning run to pick up romaine lettuce. It had gone up $4 in 1 week. One week.I know there are supply chain problems but this is too extreme. I did check prices in other grocery stores in the neighborhood and no one has raised their prices as much as Brooklyn Fare has.And theyve stopped their members reward type thing. And trying not to give up on them I stopped at the deli last night. There were 4 people working behind the counter. I was the only customer. All 4 saw me at different points but continued talking to each other rather than take my order. For 7 minutes. Again, I was the only person there. It was around 6:30 pm, not when they were closing up or buried with orders. Just me waiting for someone to take my orderTheyve lost a customer
Best grocery in the west village. Beautifully stocked, great options to choose from. Only stressful part of shopping here is the deli area. Considering taking this part of my shopping elsewhere. Try to find anyone to help you and then not feel like a nuisance for asking for turkey or anything. Its hostile at times. For everything else you need its there.
Priced for the neighborhood and not for the quality of the products. The main disappointment is how quickly their products spoil. Fruits are very expensive and the quality is generally poor. Workers are pleasant and helpful. I would like to see a major improvement with product management and quality(alot of expired items are on the shelves).
I normally avoid upscale-but-homey-looking places like these (Whole Foods, Trader Horn, etc.) as if they had the plague (or COVID-19), but I must admit that this place is actually very competitive with the average supermarket. While they are definitely upscale targeted (Wagyu beef, anyone?), they also have some very good deals (non-mass produced bread), a wide selection of produce (different types of potatoes, oranges, et.), cheaper pork cuts, varied inventory, and some good sales. On top of this, their store loyalty card gives 2% back, instead of the usual 1%. Larger than the average Manhattan supermarket, with (slightly) wider, but noticeably longer, aisles. Try it a few times, at least, to get a better sense of the place.Update, Jan. 2022: The store loyalty card has been effectively discontinued. Its only usefulness now is to verify purchases made in the event of a necessary return where a receipt was not requested or lost. Still generally better than the nearby DAgostino and Gristedes, however. Oh, and let me add that the checkout is always plentifully staffed, unlike most stores (especially the nearest ones).
Upscale mid-sized supermarket for the generally upscale clientele. Fares stock consists of common staples as well as more unusual and specialty items for the vegans, the foodies, and the glucose-intolerant of us. There is also a deli, a bakery, a butcher and a hot table of take-out ready-to-eat items. Much of the food is seemingly over-priced but the upkeep and rent of a supermarket in this hood must be enormous. Thats why there are hardly any other supermarkets in this part of town and certainly none within walking distance. Nonetheless, EBT/snap accepted. Very kind and generally knowledgeable staff.
The two guys at the sandwich area have the worst customer service.. you have to chase them around.. they see you waiting obviously to order a sandwich and they walk around turning the other way.I have to say, the evening girl has the most amazing attitude, always attentive, they should lear from her.
I love Brooklyn Fare, although I often forget that is there! In a neighborhood that is shockingly devoid of lots of great markets (I mourn Gourmet Garage still!) Brooklyn Fare is important. Great produce and quality items you don’t find other places. My only reservation is that the aisle are so tiny and confusing I end up not getting everything I need and feel rushed. But then again, that’s me 🙄
Pretty good selection, but aisles are so narrow its always hard to navigate. Must they restock shelves constantly?Bought expensive flowers there. Dead the next day and had to be tossed. The bakery is hopelessly overpriced for mediocre quality products. Prices at the checkout do not always match the posted prices. Preprepared food is not only overpriced but never good, often inedible, not fresh.
Thank you Brooklyn Fair for coming to West Village and finally giving us a decent supermarket! Absolutely fantastic variety of fresh food, from fresh guacamole, lemon grass, aloe vera sticks : simply a great fruit and veg selection (literally everything you could ever think of and need!). I love the pasta selection ( a whole aisle), and the deli/cheese is great. I could not be happier with the variety of food and drinks offered, and to top it all off, the staff are so friendly and helpful. Every time I go I get a hello from one of the managers, really quite spectacular for NYC!
Very expensive, cant blame them though that rent is probably crazy. Food is good, prepared food is good. Beer selection is pretty good. The bok choy salad at the deli counter is fantastic. Produce section is great. Cheese section good. Bulk section is okay. Fresh fish section is good I got a nice cut of wild salmon for a substantial price. Butcher section is not bad but as I said everything is expensive.
Pricing is all over the place. Look for decent sales, and make sure the sale price rings up. Lots of hard to find or not so common items. Nice enough sales people, managers are very helpful. Aisles are narrow and annoying, especially when a stroller is headed your way. Peak times are a nightmare (aisle navigation) and the checkout line is long, but moves fast.
Neighborhood eagerly awaited opening in the West Village as with the closing of Associated on 14th Street, we were without a supermarket within less than 10 or 15 blocks.. I went on the first day - only found 3 items I was willing to pay the price for (all happened to be sale items). The cashier offered me that weeks flier, which I had already seen and gave me a rewards card. I needed some ammonia the other night to finish a cleaning job, made a special trip only to find they did not have ammonia. Okay, today went specifically to buy a bag of frozen peas I needed for tonights dinner, and also to see what else might be on sale with the new weeks flier. They did not have a bag of frozen peas! They had Polar seltzer advertised and while they had a huge section of every flavor under the sun, they did not have any regular seltzer - the stock boy kindly informed me that they had sold out. First day of sale, theyre sold out??? Also all the other flavor sections were undisturbed and full to the edges of the shelves. They had fresh catfish advertised but didnt have catfish in the fish department. Progresso soup was on sale but I couldnt find a shelf tag saying which varieties fell under the definition of traditional and thus on sale. After walking all over the store, I ended up with a bag of carrots! I hope things will get better with time - its lovely to have a market close to home, but if they never have anything I can afford to buy regular price and are always out of sale items, its not quite as lovely as it sounded.
My favorite grocery story in Manhattan. They have a great selection of coffee, fresh pasta, and veggies. Their fresh meat selection is average but stands out is the general quality overall got the price. Insider tip: the breakfast sandwich is the best bang in the city.
Amazing selection of food and beverages here. They even sell Bundaberg beer from Australia - a pack of 4 for less than $3 (making it even cheaper than Australia, whaaaaat!). You will be able to find anything you’re looking for here. Dare I say that it gives all the other grocery chains in Manhattan a run for its money?
Replaced the old DAgostinos. Its more upscale- they have a nice cheese selection and gorgeous produce. You can get aloe leaves, lemongrass, artichokes, etc while at DAgs you were lucky if they had broccoli rabe in stock. Great add to the neighborhood especially as Mrs. Greens several blocks up looks to be going out of business.
What a ripoff! This Israeli-born Moe Issa owns this chain of ripoff supermarkets and which he initially offered the bait-and-switch a number of years ago and taking over the previous ripoff chain DAgostino by selling a very few items at reasonable prices and selling everything else at higher-than-usual prices. My caretaker walked in her this afternoon to buy some fresh spinach and was astounded to read $13.00 for Organic Spinach. She called me to ask if she should buy it and I answered No Way! This Moe Issa should be tarred and feathered and deported back to his home country where he can rip off his own People.
Unfortunately, items listed on sale in their flyer never seem to be on their shelves. I was promised a sale item would be in tomorrow three weeks ago. Never arrived. Today, the brand of ice cream advertised on sale was limited to two unpopular flavors. When asked, Why dont you at least have chocolate? the answer was, We dont have room. Duh! The Greenwich Avenue store is nothing but a maze of room. If youre looking for a bargain, this is not the store for you.
Continues to be a drain on average New Yorkers finances especially those of us who are senior citizen living on a fixed income. I buy fresh bananas here 2-3 at a time for less than a dollar. Standard milk, eggs, butter, coffee is highway robbery at Brooklyn Fare. Brooklyn Fares owner, Moe Issa, is a typical businessman in search of greedy profits and damn everyone else. Wish he goes back to Brooklyn or wherever hes from and drains their wallets. By the way, Issa is a pathological liar.

2022-06-09I love Brooklyn Fare so much. They have EVERYTHING. Even though the stuff is fairly small, you can get rare-to-find ingredients like preserved lemons and fresh lemongrass, as well as a giant cheese section, a bakery, a million different types of tomatoes, so decent sakes (great sales for this neighborhood), and hot food section that is the best hot food I have ever had (the lasagna is better than the one my Italian mother makes…). If I move, I will still make subway journeys to BF because they’re really amazing. And everyone is super nice here, too!

2022-06-05I am a regular shopper at Brooklyn Fare. They pack a great selection of quality produce, including organic, store made prepared food, fresh fish, along with excellent grocery items. The staff is helpful and friendly. The store is always clean. And they deliver! So glad to have Brooklyn Fare in the West Village.

2022-06-03I have been a steady customer at Brooklyn Fare since it first opened. I have had nothing short of great raves for the entire staff. When I was recuperating from a minor operation, I ordered online and my order was delivered within hours, as promised. During the early days of Covid, I also ordered online and the service was also terrific. Now I shop at the store and am extremely satisfied with the entire staff. Thank goodness they are so convenient for us seniors!

2022-06-07Always a terrific experience, shopping at BF. And I’ll be ever grateful to them for taking such excellent care of me during the pandemic. But they’re great at everything they do. Always good vibes in the store to go with their great product selection. Well done Brooklyn Fare!

2022-03-17I used to love it here when there was this Asian/Spanish girl making the coffee and sandwiches. She was beautiful and always smiled and talked to customers in a high manner. And she made THE BEST coffee, it was always piping hot. These other girls serve you half cold coffee and barely toasted sandwiches to match. The quality of this place has deteriorated. The cashiers could not care less about you and are always talking to each other, ALWAYS. Super disrespectful about how they treat customers. I keep coming back in hopes of seeing her but it seems she left for good. I won’t be returning again.

2022-02-18This location has really gone downhill in the last few months. No more weekly sales flyers so unless you search the website before going you wont know whats on sale till you get there and hope the item is priced correctly. The meat and poultry never match the sale price on the website. I asked the price of brand packaged burgers that were supposed to be on sale and was told the normal price and when I questioned the price he yelled at me and told me why did I ask if I already knew the price and I told him I wanted to confirm it was on sale as advertised and the price scanner wasnt working. He said he would have it fixed for Me by tomorrow and that there was another scanner on the other side of the store. So I went to it and scanned the burgers and of course they were not on sale as advertised. I could not argue the price because sales flyers are no longer available. What supermarket doesnt supply sales flyers to shoppers!? Ridiculous especially since pricing has increased so much so that some of us seniors can only afford to purchase sale items. One more thing check the expiration dates on everything! Items are left on the shelves past their expiration. I no longer shop here unless I have an urgent need.

2022-06-08I’m so glad to have this supermarket so close to home. It’s upscale, clean, well-stocked, and incredibly convenient — especially with delivery options. Prices are on par or competitive for the area and the produce/items are fresh.
