Brooklyn Ice House is the best dining experience I’ve had in New York. I happened upon the Ice House on a walk in 30 degree weather. I took an Uber to Red Hook, and was rather unfamiliar with the area. I walked in thirty minutes before they closed, and asked if it was okay I dined in. Cory and Sam welcomed me with warm smiles and a coke from the bar. I ordered a medium rare burger, fries, and a dirty martini. At the Saints halftime I asked if we could switch to the Nets game. Cory quickly and gladly changed the station. Throughout the evening we talked about where we were from, the Knicks vs. the Nets, and how the city has changed over the past several decades. Not to mention the burger was perfect. Every element was exactly what I wanted. Toasted buttered bun, cheddar cheese, crisp veggies, cooked properly. The service was remarkable. They were always five steps ahead. I felt taken care of in every sense. As I was getting ready to leave I asked for directions back to Williamsburg. I knew I was going to have to take the bus to the train which I hadn’t done before. Cory called the station to see what busses were running later on Sunday. He then wrote down step by step instructions on how to get back to Williamsburg. At the bottom of the note he wrote down his cell in case I got lost. I couldn’t thank everyone enough. On my way out I walked into the kitchen and thanked the cook. I left a 50% tip and headed towards the bus stop. A few minutes passed and I saw Sam running towards me. I had left my wallet. He stood with me until the bus arrived. Best dining experience I’ve had in New York.
We went on a Friday night, my first time. Its a small bar but it was crowded and the folks were all having a good time. We ordered some fried onion rings to wash down the beers with. A group of folks next to us sang happy birthday and there was a cake with a lot of candles. Its got a divey feel to it but its friendly and the service is nice. A cool place to just hang and relax.
Cash only place in Red Hook that serves decent food at decent prices out of a small kitchen. The place isn’t all that big, but that’s not a bad thing either. Good selection of draft beers as well as beer and shot specials (my go-to). All of that is great, but my favorite part would have to be the bowl of candy near the door with skittles and sour patch kids for when you leave.
A traditional dive. Small and cozy. Excellent service, nice crowd. The chef is young and very talented. Had the best burger in years. Fully cooked but juicy. Enough juice to make it moist but not that much to get it all over you. Perfectly seasoned meat. The bun did not overwhelms the burger. Served with a spicy aïoli. For an extra buck, substitute the regular fries for the sweet potato ones. Only drawback, is cash only.
I have frequented this bar for food and drinks, and I have to highly recommend this place. The food is really nice and theres a lot of it. The drinks selection is awesome, such a varied selection that I want to stay and try all of them. The locals are friendly as well and some are up for a chat. In the summer the garden at the back is spacious and gets the sun, forever there is cover provided to allow to sit in the shade. The decor is great, its nothing fancy and up market, its cool a plus they have screens so you can watch sports. I cant recommend this place enough, its my go to bar when Im in Red Hook
Great feeling and amazing staff you always meet someone interesting. The menu changes and is a bit small but everything on it always good. They have great shot and chaser items and amazing selection of beer. There is also an outside so you can drink and smoke which is always a plus in my book everyone that works there is great and so nice to be with.
Really chill backyard space! Small menu; the sweet potato fries were so salty that I feared for my organs. Average service, and reasonable prices except for the $5 in ATM fees youre going to swallow since they dont make it clear until your bill comes that its cash only :O
I didnt think the bbq was as good as everyone else claimed it was, but for a relaxing afternoon in the backyard with some cheap brews and good friends you cant really go wrong. Theres a good deal of space so this place is great for groups. Its a bit of a dive, but thats just fine if thats what youre looking for here.
Not much to be said, great bar. Nice selection of beers in bottle and can, with somewhere around 4-8 beers on tap ( a seemingly rotating list of tap beers.) There is an excellent backyard space that is wonderful equipped with a fire pit for those chilly nights. The inside has a nice wood decor and a few candy buckets (yes candy buckets) for all of you people with sweet tooths. They do have a kitchen with a pretty simple bar menu, but tasty. Food, beer and hopefully friends will equal to a good time here. If youre ever in Red Hook stop by here, I know it will be my go to.
How convenient that as soon as the weekly yelp showcased the Brooklyn Ice House, I just happened to be in Red Hook! I had, had had to check it out. Im sorry to disappoint but I didnt go in a drunk induced state. I merely went in after work to get a midday snack of bbq wings and to get a burger for my hubby. The smell of burgers hot on the grill hit me like a ton of good bricks!! Although the food took a little longer than I expected, it was worth the wait. The wings were extra crispy with just the right amount of sauce. Hubby enjoyed the burger as well.I was hugely impressed by the beer list and made a note to take some of my drinking friends here when they come to NYC and want a locals tour.
First things first. Their Happy Hour is 12-8pm.I wasnt sure exactly what their Happy Hour really entails because it isnt listed on the outside stand alone display board nor is it listed on the chalkboards behind where the bartenders work. What IS listed are the beers they serve, where they are from, and prices. Next to the 2 boards that are displaying the beers comes the board for the food. The food is mostly small items like sliders (pork), fries, etc. The sliders are 1 for $3 or 2 for $5. They were decent and nothing really to rave about but even so they beat a lot of other dive bars that serve food. The grill is conveniently located just on the other side of the wall where the food menu is hung and you can watch the cook make the food for you if you like. However, the space is normal sized for a dive bar. It can get crowded rather quickly especially around the bar area resulting in a traffic jam or sorts trying to get to the sit down tables which seats around 10 people comfortably that faces the bar. There is 1 pinball machine and 1 shooting game that was probably hot in the 90s but it gives you this sense of the grunge upfront. There is a backyard patio that has a large tent like awning that has communal wooden tables and benches that fits around 12 people as well as outer corner tables that can fit 4 people per section AND the 2 communal bench tables just as you open the door leading to the backyard in the first place. That fits 4 people comfortably on each setting. Most people that eat in the backyard just leave the garbage there which is pretty much the beer glasses and plastic treys that the food come in but as always you should just bring it back to the bar to save the bartender(s) the trouble of having to come back here stopping the pour of beers to clear your shyt. That is simply a no-no and Im sure theyd appreciate it as well. This bar is located on the most busiest street of Red Hook which is easily accessible by car or bus. Not so much subway as that would mean youd either have to transfer to the bus or walk a good 10 long blocks to get here.I made the foolish mistake of doing so on the way back and I will tell you this, the dogs be sore. This is a no frills all attitude type of bar, in a good way.Id definitely come back for more beer and food if Im in the area.
Probably the most underrated back patio in this history of underrated back patios. They have dozens of beers, board games, and a hip Red Hook neighborhood to explore. What else do you want?Reco: Grab a lobster roll from Red Hook Lobster Pound and also walk to the edge of Red Hook for a great view of the Statue of Liberty.
Of benches to hang out with friends. I honestly cant think of a better place to go on a Saturday afternoon with friends.Since youre in Red Hook, things are definitely going to be much cheaper than in other parts of the city. But the one thing that will keep me coming back is their Frito Pie, which is basically nachos made with fritos - topped with chili cheese and jalepenos. Seriously, my friends and I must have devoured 5 order of these.Their pulled pork sandwich, bacon wrapped hot dog, and burgers arent half bad either.I cant wait to come back again the next time Im in the hood.
Went here last weekend with friends and it was not what i expected had to send back the food cause it wasnt cooked fully the guys in the kitchen were drunk and kept trying to sell me and my friends drugs (not what we went there for) when asked to speak to a manager they told me it was the guy in the kitchen(same person trying to sell me drugs) that is the first and last time I will be going there STAYAWAY!!!!!
Quite possibly the best dive bar in Brooklyn. From the prices that are so low you wonder how they stay in business, to the amazing kitchen staff and food selection, to the bartenders that actually remember your name, Brooklyn Ice House is a gem of Brooklyn. Do yourself and your friends a favor - dine at Brooklyn Ice House.

2020-01-08Dont trick yourself looking from the outside. Once you get inside you will find a cozy, lay back and cool atmosphere to enjoy drinks, food or be in the backyard with friends. There is no push from the bartender to get drinks every time, no drunk people yelling, good spot with music, tv and special event. This has become our place and we had a great time everytime we show up. Dont expect to have a waiter checking on you all time time because the bartender is pretty much the one who run the tables when they can, still they are always available and helpful for whatever you need. Prices are very affordable including for drinks and they got special and happy hours.Highly recommended place if you want a classic old school bar in a cozy warm place in a safe environment to eat or drink.

2021-10-29Super solid dive bar with a good selection of European beers and a spacious backyard. The food is typical bar fare, can’t go wrong with the burger or onion rings. Their veggie burger is a great meatless option for those that would prefer it.Honestly the prices are a breath of fresh air around here, everything has gotten so expensive in this neighborhood. You can get a meal and a buzz for 30 bucks here, as opposed to a 25 dollar lobster roll next door, or a 25 dollar burger across the street. If you sit outside it’s easier to order at the bar than wait for service, since there’s usually just one bartender working on week days. Shout out the Corey, who is a gem. It’s a dive bar people! Adjust expectations accordingly and you won’t be disappointed here.

2018-09-06A true Red Hook gem, and an unparalleled place to spend a Sunday afternoon. These guys have everything you want in a day drinking spot: awesome burgers and wings (especially the wings), cheap beer/shot specials, board games and a jar of candy by the door. Spend an afternoon at this place and you’ll wanna come back again and again.

2018-08-27Mixed impressions. The bar itself is great, with decent selection of beers and liquors. Barmen were all friendly and efficient . Nice outdoor setting, but was impossible to get a waitress although there were not really many people to serve, it was half empty. So I went back to the bar.The burger I ordered came out quite fast, but they forgot fries somehow - had to go myself to kitchen and remind them. And then I tried the burger - tasteless is a mild word to describe it. Better get McSomething than this. Really disappointing...

2022-03-11Stopped by to grab some food but the burger was still raw inside and the cook didn’t use any gloves while preparing the food. To even make the matter worse he was touching his phone and food back to back.
