The county workers behind the counter have horrible customer service skills. They treat people like we are a nuisance. They are:-Rude-Unhappy-Not knowledgeable-Unwilling to answer your questions-cut you off when asking questions and don’t even answer your question.I am at the county because I lost my job and need assistance. Yet the county workers make the process even worse by their unwillingness to help or their bitter attitude.Supervisors educate your people on the county core values and promises to treat each customer with dignity. Because they have no respect for the customer.
Social workers have to have a four year college degree. They have the government rules to follow, and many, many people give them stories that are not true. Yes their are rude workers and nice ones but few nice one exist.
My case worker had the broome county security jump on me and they tried to wrestle me to the ground and head & leg lock me but i fought them off and left. Then i contacted their bosses and they still havent did anything to help me with that situation. March will make 1 yr since they assaulted me.
Although Im not thrilled about the kiosk situation, I always give kudos to the men and women who work at DSS. Often times people abuse them as if they were the ones making the rules. Give them a break! They paid for a degree to listen to you! Trust that they are trying to help in every way they can within the structure of the system. At least say Thank You
Sometimes you can get a decent worker but I have experienced extreme rudeness just handing in an application for help. If people didnt need them for help they wouldnt have a job!?
Was very helpful and would be homeless if it was not for them but my own fault for missing appointment so might be in same situation. But when you have court appointments on top of them its hard to juggle both. Have to stay out of jail but have to keep a roof over my head to stay out too. A job would be great am trying very hard with no luck yet.
My mother wanted to Department of Social Services this morning and let me tell you. Now! my mothers a type of person who greets you good morning good evening good afternoon no matter who you are she really believes in treating people the way she want to be treated. I dont care if youre disrespectful to her she still going to treat you with respect. Shes the type of person if you need a place to live shes going to invite you into her home and feed you. I have seen my mom do so much selfless things for so many people and the first thing come out her mouth is dont tell no body, cause shes doing it from the heart or you dont owe me anything So! when she went down to DSS for help that worker for no reason was not kind to her and she still didnt get angry she aint get upset she just chucked it up and said okay Ill bring you the information back with that being said just because you in that type of work that dont give you the right to treat people any way you want to treat them because you think you have that power. Workers at DSS needs a some kind of course to teach them Respect and how to treat people they need training. I understand that sometimes people do go in there being disrespectful and rude ok now I can understand, but what about the ones that arent. Listen thats my mother and she didnt deserve that. Shes not that mean spirited person. And even when my mother left she still didnt have not one bad thing to say about that worker she just said I hope she have a blessed day. Broome County need to get it together.
The department of social services is crooked. They house child protective services in here as well. Let me just say that they violate all parents civil rights. Which is illegal. They remove children from homes without a court order.. People need to start sticking up for their own civil rights. Be strong and dont let anyone tell you different. Do not let them take advantage of you
They dont care about you. I do t know how many times ive had to call over my food stamps and no one can answer me on any of my questions. They clearly could care less about helping anyone. They are very judgemental and stingy. Look down on you for needing help.
Yall need to go in there with all the needed paperwork and a polite attitude. Stop going in there mad and expecting the worst because you will attract exactly what you put out. I think theyre very helpful and professional here. Thank you
Almost entire staff is incredibly rude. Impossible to get ahold of anyone over the phone and no one has any idea what they’re doing.
I am pregnant I got kicked out of my apartment and have been home less since Monday I went to DSS that same day with a landlord form and proof that I had no were to go I have been there every day trying to. Get somewhere so I dont have to live on the Street Im due Sept fourth and have been at DSS for five days straight I have to walk an hour just to get there it is really hard for me yesterday I went down there they told everyone to leave the building BC the power went out sat outside of DSS for about two hours then was told to come back the next day I have a landlord that wants to rent to me I got security deposit taken care of and still having problems getting in why do they say they dont want pregnant people on the street when they refuse to help am I not good enough to deserve a roof over my head I just dont understand why they have this building with a giant sign that says get help here when its not true
This place is a nightmare!!!! Everything about every process I had to do was a serious exercise in patience. I went in at 9:30am and sat there till 3:30pm I had a appointment there and still had to wait. They need to do something and try to make the process of getting and receiving help more efficient. Because the way it is now it wont be long before someone goes postal
I’ve been brought in in the past on a case where someone lied about my dad touching me, they wouldn’t even look into it and just went off of what they thought happened, completely ignored both me and my brother telling them it never happened and nearly got him convicted
Horrible. Give people too much of a hassle to get services. Very unprofessional. If you can avoid going down here, do so at all, but if you must go be prepared for the hassles. Its like they dont have a heart and dont think that they could ever be in the same predicament.
This office is horrible they dont do there job and your the one who has to suffer (ie. No food for a month). Ive lived in other counties and had no problems. Some state official really needs to investigate this place.
These social workers, most of them are great. One guy thinks he is a mini god though and I hated dealing with him.He acted as if the money was coming out of his pocket !
This center I so small and so is the bathroom. But believe it or not I get seen fast but I did get interviewed by an on site f.b.i agent asking when was the last time I wired money and to whom?
Rude, unprofessional and out right ignorant staff, most of the time. They lie and do not follow proper policy and procedures but what other choice do you have but to deal with it when you are all out of options?..Enter at your own risk.
Kind of a pain in the butt to get things done there but some of the staff is very helpful some are not. It gets easier once you know what youre doing and what paperwork youve got to fill out and what window to go to.
I find that YOU TREAT PEOPLE HOW YOU WANT TO BE TREATED. If their so rude in Broome County than move!
My sister had an emergency and on ssi they told her you must get a rep payee (give up her rights to manage her ssi check to someone else) then they will help her...how is this legal?

The people there, really dont want to help us. When I asked questions to Mr.Camp( Case manager) ,he told security to jump/attack me.
Im only going to say nice things about this place because they give us services in anyone that complains about anything doesnt deserve that there are a lot more less fortunate people that cant figure out even how to get there because they have a agoraphobia so bad so they dont get the services they need or people that are in wheelchairs and cant get around cuz theyre alone you got to think about others before you say selfish things at the hand thats feeding you
Ever time I go there they never help me. Couple times I when becuz of personal reason they told me theyll send me a mail and 5 days its been a mounth no one send me nothing and I had to go over they arent helpful at all
Was just on the phone and after 130 mins of waiting was hung up on! Im livid they need to fix what ever kind of system then are running there.
For the most part friendly and helpful staff, decent waiting time, and clean.
Either they used to help people years ago, at least a little, and have now stopped - or they never did and I was a lot more hopeful years ago. Wish theyd actually be a resource to the people in the community that need one.

2022-06-23Very unprofessional from the top down starting with Jennifer Zimmerman the bossdown the case worker that called me harassing me and threatened me with harassment charges. Lisa Reardon is the one that called me after I asked her boss to contact me which never happened after I even left my contact information on her voicemail. Making assumptions about me and what happened which was all lies according to official court records. Very unprofessional department if I could give a negative rating I would have....

2021-12-24Truth is that they actually arent rude and if they are maybe its just a bad day but even so I done seen a lot of people go in there demanding and not even saying Thank you . You must be polite to people you only get what you give in this world . But Ill admit its hard to get to them on the phone and that statement should only be said for those who actually call back more then once , remember people are busy but I promise you not one of them people stop they take people back to back to back . If we going to keep it real keep it real with yourself first . You got to remover they are human at the end of the day just like you . Before you go in there slap some ice on your emotions and moods .

2021-11-16They’re super helpful whenever I go there, but trying to get a hold of anybody over the phone as a joke! And the only thing I would actually change about the facility is having somewhere to sit at those table things where you fill stuff out. I’ve had to stand for way too long filling out paperwork. But that’s my own fault, I could easily take it home, as I basically live across the street and (however, not everyone is as lucky to be able to do that)

2021-06-29This agency systematically over charges child support to non-custodial parents. If a parent figures this out, they will tell you that they cannot refund your overpayment. I had to file a civil suit against the custodial parent AND PREVAILED WITH A JUDGEMENT IN MY FAVOR.They also apparently even without any legal authority to do so will continue to withhold your support payments even after support is legally terminated through the courts. There is a very broken system here which needs joint legal action to be taken against BCSCU.My kid makes over 30k lives on his own in a different state than me or the other parent the court says to terminate support however, BCSCU continues to garnish with no legal authority to do so. I already had to sue BROOME COUNTY once and prevailed. My advice to anyone in this situation is to SUE THE HELL OUT IF THEM!!! IF YOU ARE IN THE RIGHT, AND YOU DO NOT GIVE UP ... YOU WILL WIN!

2019-10-0799% of the workers dont care about the people coming for help. More times then not they are more the willing to help the drug addicts and alcoholics that dont have jobs but they people that are working and trying to make ends meet are told they are over income and refuse to help in any way. Ive been sick and couldnt work. They helped me then but now that I can work again and do my part Im over income for a family of 4 working part time hours and let me not forget that they now are taking me to court saying I stole from them while I was out on medical leave with several letters from doctor stating I couldnt work. . .. be careful they dont care

2020-06-29Almost always rude. If you dont want to deal with less fortunate people, no matter how annoying they might be, dont work there. Its hard enough to be in a position where you need assistance, but to have to deal with the superior attitude of people that are supposed to help you.....its a lot for a person to take.

2018-06-11They will help people in the community who need it you just have to be intelligent enough to fill out paperwork and wait your turn. The employees are rude but I dont blame them because I see the type of people they have to deal with every day. Honestly the people coming here for help are much ruder than the employees. The guards at the door like to pretend they are real cops and act like tough guys but its more funny than any thing. The social workers here have been more than helpful with me and I really appreciate everything I have gotten through this service. I have chronic pain issues and a severe anxiety disorder with panic attacks that makes it very difficult for me to work and they have helped me tremendously. Im also a recovering addict with 10 months of sobriety and they treat me like a person unlike other services in the area. If your an intelligent and patient person you will have no problems getting help.

2020-05-30They are extremely rude and unprofessional. I have a brain disease and asked for help and it was taken as aggressive behavior,??? How does asking a question be seen as aggressive behavior? They need to do an investigation into this place as we as Child protective and do a complete overhaul. They do not follow rules, they are hurtful and aggressive and they do NOT help children in distress. PERIOD. The state needs to get involved.
