Overwhelmingly cluttered, dirty, disarray. The mammal area is infested with Gnats. They are all over the rabbits and other animals food in their dishes. Electrical outlets without electrical plates/covering on them. The fish section STINKS like dirty tanks. They have a wide selection of every type of animal or fish but I wouldnt buy from them because living in those conditions means youre most likely going to get an unhealthy pet from the start. They need to clean it up.
Jeez.... this place really breaks my heart. The animals here literally look like they want to die. Its painful to look at. The place gets so extremely hot in the summer and they have no AC and the animals are in small cages and theyre literally suffering. The animal cages are totally inadequate for the animals inside and nothing I mean nothing is properly cleaned. Someone needs to save his place because it can be so fantastic. YES no matter what the place wont be spotless because there are so many animals and birds which love to make a mess. But thats no excuse for the conditions that this place is in. I really have no clue how theyre actually operating. I beg that someone who has power can get in this place and totally flip it because this is literally disgusting. They need to learn how to clean correctly and properly care for the animals inside. The store is completely organized.. the whole inside needs to be cleaned and renovated. The only positive is if you have kids they can pet bunnies and they may like to look at the animals. But as an adult you know that these animals are not in the correct environment and are not cared for properly at all. This place disgusts me and I really pray for a change. Please.
This place has a really large variety of animals and it’s really entertaining to see everything. Since the pandemic, I have noticed customer service go down meaning good luck finding someone to help you, especially in the fish department. The store could really use a deep cleaning too. I get that they are likely short-staffed, but it doesn’t take much to say hi, how are you, how can I help you or I’ll be with you on a few.
When you walk into the store they have a large variety of products along with animals. However, the environment these animals are kept in is questionable. I will be going through each. The fish section is pretty basic, it’s what you would normally see at any petstore, but you have more of a variety, however they have large amount of fish in each tank. The Reptile section is not very good. They mix different species of animals together, not only that, animals that should be solitary are kept in groups. Most of the reptiles are overpriced, which gives them a difficult chance of finding a better home. If you are looking for reptiles I would recommend going to Repxotica, which is a minute away. The Birds and Small Animals are kept in the same section, however, again they are crammed and the conditions they in do not look very pleasant. Some of the staff are pretty friendly, but should be more knowledgeable on their animals. I believe this will place does have potential, but they should take more action in improving the conditions of their animals.
Rude, overpriced, and unknowledgeable as to what they are selling. Spent $600 with them to find out that NOTHING they sold me was good. Everything they sold me for my bearded dragon was unsafe and unusable. My fault for not doing any prior research but the employee who helped me basically told me I needed everything, when in reality none of it could even be used for my pet. Not to mention they themselves have no idea what is good for the animals, as they keep a bunch of them in the same extremely small tanks with improper lighting and care the animals need to survive. They do bad business and finesse anybody they could. Feel like I got robbed because now I have to go and buy everything again. 0/10 would not recommend this place to anybody. Bad business and just lost a well paying customer. We will never shop there again!
I had bought a hamster 1 year ago and he is very nice and he didnt bite at all when I first held him. We bought a Serbian long hair hamster and I really recommend buying one! I named him fluffy because he was very fluffy! Have a great day! Also the food was very good but I would recommend buying a bigger cage and wheel. The staff was very helpful too!
Picked up an entire set up from here. 110 Gallons, fluval FX6 Cansiter filter (best filter Ive ever had) heater, gravel, plants, drift wood... the whole 9 yards! Tony helped me out picking everything and even came in early for me. Highly recommend this company for any exotic animals and especially fish. 10/10!
My family and I visited BTJ on 11/15/21 to get a red tail catfish. After getting the catfish we walked around and happened to see they had a sale on baby bunnies. We asked the sales associate MaKiya about how much the baby bunnies were and what it takes to maintain them. MaKiya was amazing to say the least she was knowledgeable and spoke with confidence. MaKiya than proceeded to walk us around the store and show us everything we needed and why we needed it and when/how to use it for our new bunny. I will tell you that MaKiya was the reason we left with that bunny with how helpful and professional she was. We will be back for any bunny needs and will definitely be making sure MaKiya is there when we go. Thank you all at BTJ and shout out to MaKiya!!
Bought a bearded dragon here and the girl helping me suggested i go with a 20 gallon tank. I thought I needed something bigger but she insisted I didnt, That a 20 gallon would be fine because they kept their adults (about 4 or 5) in a 40 gallon. I take responsibility for not learning enough beforehand but you shouldnt have your staff selling things that are no good for bearded dragons. The kit was $200 and came with sand which is bad for babies. It also came with lightbulbs I couldnt use. RED BULBS ARE HORRIBLE FOR BEARDED DRAGONS!!!!! They absolutely overcharged me, sold me things that were no good, and keep their animals in tanks not adequate for their size. They sold me fish tank decor for my beardie and when I went to return it the man at the counter acted very rude, like he didnt want to give me store credit. Which he didnt. He insisted I use my store credit right then and there because he didnt want to spend time writing me a store credit ticket. I love my bearded dragon and Im so happy I got her but I will not be going back nor will I recommend anyone to go here. Repxotica is 3 min away and 100x better. Please do your research.
Great place to look at all the different pets they have. I bought my Ozzy who is a Cockatiel and the first time he saw us ir was love. They always say when choosing a pet let them come to you because then you know they like you. Sure enough, its been a month since we got him and I absolutely adore him. Great prices and atmosphere and friendliness from staff too. Especially Jen..
So most of the reviews say this place is bad. Honestly there really good. I definitely recommend this place to go for food and toys or just to get a pet. For little ones to see all the types of animals too. They even clip nails which is wonderful because I need to have my Guinea pigs nails clipped and no one is able to do that where I could find someone until I found BTJ’S jungle gym!! I love this place best to go to here amazing place love it!!!
This place has been the most rude place. The man behind the front desk (the bald middle aged gentleman) was extremely rude. When asking him any question he seemed extremely bothered to answer. Took me asking a question 3 times before he finally gave me a one word answer. We stood in the fish section while a young woman walked past us unaknowledged to the point where we walked out disgusted. What a shame this place has come to this. My son started getting upset wondering why no one would help us when he was so excited to get his new fish tank up and running. Not to mention the Caucasian customer who walked in 20 minutes after us was immediately greeted and offered help instantaneously. DO NOT SUPPORT THIS LOCAL BUSINESS which kills me to say as I believe it is so important to do so with most businesses. Outside of this one where they do not belong in business if this is the type of customer services they offer people.
Avoid this place if at all possible. The employees have no concept of customer service and the management is even worse. One time I went and watched an employee eat his sandwich for lunch while handling the rabbits with no protective gear. They have lost my business and honestly shouldnt get anyone elses until they clean up their act and store. Store stinks and they obviously are just in it for the money as they put to many pets in the cages/tanks when they should obviously be spaced separated. And dont get me started on the prices. If you like going to smelly pet stores with bad customer service this is the place for you. Otherwise there are plenty of better establishments out there that deserve your money.
This place is horrible… i bought a baby leopard tortoise from them and a few days later he became very sick and i spent so much money in vet bills and he died.. i’m left heart broken. this place needs to be reported bc they don’t give their animals the proper care they need! my baby tortoise became ill due to the fact that he was kept in the wrong enclosure and environment! :( this place should be shut down since they don’t know how to take care of animals, this is so cruel..
If I could give this place a negative star review I would. The reptiles are kept in very small enclosures and many birds are kept in single small cages. One of the monitors couldnt turn around because the enclosure was so small. Left this store feeling sad and disgusted.
This place the rabbits are in wood chips. They do not know how to care for the animals with constant picking up animals when not needed. The living conditions are at best sad. The animals in this place are for purpose of sale with minimal care given. Its truly sad and prices are on the high side.
They keep their animals in small cages and in fish tanks, especially the birds. Its totally unacceptable. I seen pictures on their Facebook page where they had all different species of parrots in an aquarium tank. Those birds basically had no way of moving around and to get exercise at all. Its not healthy for them at all. Their business should be shutdown and I think its a form of animal abuse. Please report them as much as you can. I dont stand for animal cruelty. Its not right that those poor animals should be treated like that. I love all animals and we are the voice to stand up for them.
This place has horrible care for the animals, many different species of birds stuffed into a small fish tank. ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE AND ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. Do not buy from this place because theyre welfare of their animals is the least of their concerns clearly. Birds are to be in cages with adequate space, food and toys in compliance to specific cafe for a specific species!!!
I wouldnt have bought the rabbit or a cage at those prices if my Mom wasnt there to be pushed into it. I thought the prices were too high (even with $10 off - Thanks for the discount!). They didnt sell us the items we actually needed - we got more bedding when we really need a ton of hay. We were given a piece of paper with minimal, even useless, rabbit information which wasnt helpful at all. We were there for LITERALLY 10 minutes and were quickly ushered into buying a bunny that scratched three people, expensive yet poor quality cage, too little food, too little hay and too much bedding.
I don’t know what these other people are talking about .. the staff might be a little curt at times but very knowledgeable.. They do have a baby area to simulate a nest with all the baby birds for people to see it’s also close to the register so they can continuously feed the birds as baby birds need a lot of attention… Today I bought a bird from here .. This is not my first bird from them… This would be my third… All of my birds have been very healthy and are very healthy… I frequent the store to buy my bird food and toys and even have my birds wings clipped once a year..
This is a very good pet store that specializes in what I think fish. They have very large selection of freshwater and saltwater fish. I was able to buy a replacement Cory catfish and two Gouramis that are doing very well. My only concern was the one stingray that was in a very small tank for its size and living with other fish as well. Other than that this is very good store and I will be returning.
We bought our rabbit from BTJ. The staff were knowledgeable as to care and feeding, and their selection was great. They provided written instructions (rabbits aren’t cats that hop and eat hay!!!!), and essentials such as hay, pellet food, and vitamins were in-stock. They offer a nail trimming service for rabbits, which we utilize.
The treatment of their animals is bad. treatment of customers is worse. i spoke with the manager to discuss the care of their birds which mixed species and unweaned birds in an aquarium. 20 birds in a tank. she tried to convince me thats how they should be but as ive studied this for YEARS i know how to handle baby birds. reviews on their facebook were being deleted after many went there to say what they were doing are wrong. the manager Jennifer and her friend were actively attacking me and others when we were speaking with respect and just wanted to discuss the care of them. ive seen other photos in reviews and the animals look sick. they also overprice a crazy amount and heard before that they will change prices depending on who youre asking. overall theyre just scummy and a scam. ive been making reports actively to have them investigated. not worth your time
I went to BTJs to buy a fish. They were every helpful and helped me find exactly what I wanted. I have been going here for years and have seen the hard work they have put into this store. I went in and found the supplies I needed very easily as it is very neat and cleanly. I will always recommend this place over any others as I love this place. The workers are always kind and are willing to tell you information that you have asked them for. I will always come back.
The cramped living conditions of these poor baby birds OF DIFFERENT SPECIES are shocking, uneducated and they need rescuing. Many pictures of birds in a fish tank, where a few are clearly not fully weaned and have been huddled in one place clearly to make a quick buck. Another of an African grey in a tank 😭 Very sad. I hope they’re all placed into better care and get aviaries suited to each species.
They sold me a sick ferret, ive only had her for a week and im already $5k deep in vet bills. The staff at the store were friendly, but un knowledgeable about ferrets and it was obvious. I gave them the benefit of the doubt as she was the cutest ferret and appeared to be okay. When I took her home she was barely eating or drinking, and it went downhill from there. I asked questions about her medical history before I bought her and it sounded like they were talking off the top of their heads and not really sure of the valid questions that I was asking either. They also gave me a range of when she was born....not the exact birth date. I am a ferret owner to 2 others and they both came with a proper birth certificate pamphlet and a specific date. Not only to mention the price point of $300 for her when MOST stores sell them for $200. Completely untrustworthy store.
Very rude staff, and the animals are badly taken care of. If you go around you’ll see that the animals are in very small enclosures and a lot of them look sick. The younger staff are kind, but don’t know much about animal needs. Everything is also very overpriced- Much better and SAFER places to go on LI. Spare yourself
I havent been to BTJs for a few years, it was a fantastic place to go and get fish. I went in there the other day and I was so disappointed. The place is very small and crammed with so much stuff you could hardly move. The fish tanks had a lot of sick and dead or dying fish in them. I have been breeding fish for many years and this was always my go-to place now I am saddened and very disappointed. I will not be going back.
I bought a ferret here a year ago and she is very sweet, and I love her BUT the prices here are way overpriced. If you want to get totally ripped off buy your pet supplies here. Its also very dirty, dingy, and I feel contaminated after leaving this place. AND not to mention the workers, and owners, I assume, are very rude, unfriendly, and dont say two words to you or acknowledge your presenceI would not recommend this store, shop online or go to Petco for sure.
I do enjoy this store its great for a visit with the kids. Lots of animals on display all seem to be kept up well. We all know how its like to go to a pet store and see animals kept in bad living conditions. But that doesnt seem to be the case here maybe a little overpriced but being able to view your animal and actually touch it unable to touch it and see it before purchasing is got to be ideal. They got from fish to reptiles and many other items chickens bunnies and they do boarding.
I’ve purchased 2 rabbits from here in the past and both of them died within weeks of having them. Both times I noticed them getting very sick and took them to an exotic pets vet and both times they told me wherever they were being kept wasn’t cleaned right and they weren’t cared for in the right way. Every time I’ve come into this store it’s been a mess with animals crammed into tiny spaces and it’s always so hot and the staff have always been super rude and unwelcoming. So unprofessional.
I was there to buy a gerbil the other day and had to get food and toys as well. I had been here before and had had a great experience. The lady was nice and recommended their gerbil food. Today I finally ran out of my old bag of food by Kaytee. I opened a brand new jar of this food and realized there were tiny black bugs of some sort crawling around. I felt truly sick to my stomach knowing I could have been feeding them bugs for the past 2 weeks. I’m not saying this place is bad just warning everyone to always check!
This place is the ultimate pet shop. You will find animals here no other pet shop on long island carries. Incredible assortment of saltwater and fresh water fish and plants. Lizards, frogs guinea pigs , turtles, tarantula , scorpions..even cages and all sorts of housing for jyst about any critter. Real cool place if you havent been here you should really take a trip and check it out for yourself. You will be wowed.
I was having problem to get the right pump. I bought 1 from Critters was wrong one and they wouldnt exchange it. Customer for 10 years. I am back a Btjungle going since it opened it 69. I now live around 40 minutes away but the owner knows his stuff. I have to restart my 3 ponds again and I will travel for the experience they have. Helen
This is a sad pet store. They have too many animals and not enough help. Theres no AC and the animals are too hot. Large selection of animals and the staff isnt knowledge on all of them. I had questions and they were left unanswered. There were loose animals and they couldnt catch them. It was chaos. The animals are all overpriced compared to better stores and most animals seemed sick. I took my business somewhere else. I wouldnt recommend this store. This store needs some help or the animals will end up suffering.
Honestly, you could probably get most things they have there are PetSmart for cheaper, but I like to look at their collection of different animals there so sometimes Ill buy items from here. However, the staff arent very friendly. Rather than greet customers theyll usually just look at you with an annoyed expression on their face. I even had an employee in the fish department say to me, Move out of the way while I was browsing fish to get for my freshwater aquarium. I think the only person who actually enjoys their job there is the girl with dark hair who appears to work with the small animals and reptiles, possibly birds as well. I dont remember what her name is, however.
Small space but crammed with ton of stuff for any pet you may have. Mini pig, birds, rabbits, snakes, lizards, fish both fresh and salt. Overpriced but not as bad as some other places. Cramming large animals and fish into small cages and aquariums. Unhealthy fish and probably the same with some other animals.
Always a great experience shopping here. They have a variety of whatever you may want or need and the staff is very knowledgable and helpful. Ive been coming here for yours, including before the fire in the previous location. My kids were so sad. They are grown now but going to BTJs when they were younger was an adventure we all enjoyed. Highly recommend.
I went to three different pet stores looking for one specific thing for my aquarium. Not only did they have what I needed, one of the employees helped me find it and talked to me about the pros and cons of upgrading the product to get longevity out of it. Their prices matched other stores, which surprised me because I thought they were going to be more expensive compared to more name brand stores. My only complaints are that they keep the lighting so low it’s hard to shop and the layout is a little overcrowded, but that won’t stop me from going back. Expertise trumps going anywhere else.
I recently purchased a young ball python from here. I really got it bc I could tell it was under weight. When I brought it home I discovered it had mites and looks really rough. Could feel the whole snakes spine and had some really bad stuck shed and not to mention the mites again. Please do not buy reptiles or anything from here. Sad to see a place that’s been in business as long as they have sell such animals that have many issues. Staff acts like you should know the answer to every question you ask. And even if you have experience with the animals they’ll treat you like a child. Please I urge you not to shop here. Go spend your money at shops that take care and will help you with your questions
I worked here for about three days before I couldnt take it anymore. First of all, they didnt pay me. They insisted that I keep coming in for unpaid training days. Training days for what? Cleaning cages? When they told me this, I mentioned to them that I had a rabbit for nine years, suggesting that I knew how to clean cages. There was also another boy there at the time that wasnt officially hired (he was coming in for unpaid training days as well.) When he asked the owner if he could have a day off (I overheard the whole conversation) to visit a college he was looking at, she got very nasty with him and told him if she couldnt rely on him to be there, then she couldnt hire him (even though he was already giving her free labor!). I was also asked to keep my eye on a pregnant hamster while I was cleaning cages, because she was due to give birth. So, I said okay and continued to clean the cages, looking back at the hamster every few minutes. When I looked back a final time, there was one dead newborn hamster. I immediately told the owner and she took out the dead hamster. I understand that happens sometimes, but considering hamsters typically give birth to litters of 6-12 and I only saw one by the end of the day was concerning. They also had a 7 or 8 year old female rabbit that they kept for breeding. Thats like a 60 year old woman giving birth. I do not know what happened to the hamster or the rabbit because I left. I gave them free labor for three days, they didnt discuss a potential salary or work schedule at all with me, they dont treat their animals right, and the whipped cream on the cake was that they just threw me onto the floor and told me to help customers without telling me where anything was or prices of animals. When I asked my manager what I should do if I didnt know where something was or if I didnt know a price on one of the animals, she told me to just find her. Somebody asked me where the bird cages were and I had no idea that they kept them all the way on top of the isles. And then I couldnt get them down, because they didnt tell me where they kept the ladder. Bad place to work, bad place to shop.
Great experience at the store, especially with Jen! My son fell in love with a parrotlet bird, and Jen helped us in making my son happy with his new parrotlet. Not only did she work with us to get the best price, she also gave us a ton of education on how to care for our new bird. Highly recommend BTJ’s for all your pet needs. The staff are all friendly and willing to help you with any needs you may have for your pets!
This is one of the few pet stores where you can see or bring home exotic animals. They have fresh and salt water species of fish from all corners of the world. You can hear and see multiple species of birds as you walk around. Pet guinea pigs or rabbits while looking at chinchillas. They have mice, gerbils, and ferrets too. Into reptiles, you will find lizards, snakes, and turtles here as well. A family owned business, the prices are a little higher than the chain stores, but it is a one of a kind place for all animal lovers.
Jen and Nora were amazing! Had an emergency on a Sunday with my cockatiel, and no vets were open. We called looking for suggestions on where to go, and Jen told us to come in. Her and Nora bandaged our bird’s foot free of charge, and gave us more advice on where to go and what to do. I can’t thank them enough for the help!
Very rude staff. The owner seriously should have a meeting with their staff on how to communicate with a customer! And should also consider taking down the website, as per a staff member they are not accommodating a customers specific wants of any breed. They get whatever they get that’s it
Terrible customer service bald man working there was incredibly rude. I went to purchase fish food we were standing in front of him for about 5 mins legit arms on the counter, completely ignored us and we finally had to go find . When the associate came up then he changed his old attitude. After that these two women a bit older then us were behind us his attitude was completely different he was so happy and over the moon happy to help them. Wether it was race or just our age we shouldn’t have been treated differently. Also as he fed the baby birds it was ridiculous he shoved the syringe down the baby birds throat and just shot the food down it’s throat and tossed him back into the small tank they got them all in not even a cage so they’re all on top of each Other. They had a goldfish being eaten by all the others. What a mess.
This fish/pet store looks a bit disheveled both from the outside and once you get in. The inside is crowded to accommodate the selection of products and pets they offer. The staff is a bit quirky. But overall, the place is has great selection and great prices. I frequent this place and they have yet to let me down.
Has a large variety of fish and fish tank accessories. Many varieties of other pets as well including exotic animals. Normally no dogs or cats for sale but do have supplies for them. We got a sugar glider from here. Staff is knowledgable and friendly. We continue to go back for pet supplies for all our animals(dogs, cats, snake and of course our sugar glider).
Wanted to get a Koi pool installed in my backyard owners brother never showed up to my house twice unreliable. Staff is nice overall nice selection store setup is awesome. With shark on ceilings displayed Megladon jaw is awesome. Just turned off that the brother never came to quote a pond Twice.
Bought a rabbit from them that I was told was a dwarf. Didnt care what she was but she is damn near a foot and a half long. Went back to look into getting a friend to bond and was told over the phone I would have 7 days with the new rabbit. Show up and was told its not their problem if they dont get along. 7 days isnt enough time and the bait and switch of it was just shady. After my 1st rabbit I never dealt with them again. The staff is overworked and short. And nobody watches the treatment of the animals that can be touched. People are going to you for answers ..dont waste your time here. In rockville centre theres a store called birds of paradise. Its leaps and bounds better and clean.
I went to BTJ for a pondless waterfall feature and was impressed at the selection of parts they had for the feature. In addition to pond supplies, they have a large selection of pets from fish to birds. They also have a large selection of garden statues and accents to add to your property.
If i could give the service here a ZERO stars i would. They have this rude representative in the fish dept. tall guy with glasses who got snappy with me for asking him to feed the marine fish that i was going to buy. He was chatting with another co-worker and i said to him that when he has a moment i needed help. He comes over after a few and asked me what did i need. Told him i was interested in one of the angel fish but wanted to see him eat first so i know he’s healthy. The guy says rudely to me “you couldn’t have told me that before”? I said to him you know what forget about it and took my business to Caribbean Blue Aquatics. At least Caribbean Blue Aquatics knows how to treat customers with respect.I have been shopping at BTJ’s ever since they were on the other side of the hwy before the business burnt down. Supported them for years. Purchased my Blue and Gold Macaw from these guys. But this was it for me. Never shopping here ever again. All thanks to that sour grape of a salesmen.
Is B.T.J.s Jungle WORTH your time?=============================I highly recommend this pet store. The staff are so kind and patient and are always there to help! Ive read some comments that in my opinion, are NOT true. For years shopping at B.T.J.s has been worth my time. Staff are always respectful and the animal and supplies you need, they have. I highly recommend this place,go see for yourself. ITS WORTH YOUR TIME!!!
Lots of cool fish but they got an attitude and will sell you anything. Half the fish they sold me were not compatible with my community tank in which i told them what i have also they sold me two angels that had a fungal infection that they both died of fin rot and lost a couple of fish in my tank. I will not be doing any further business with them
They have a lot of different animals for good prices but the fish/fish water that they use has had a bad ich problem for a while now and killed at least half of the fish in my tank three times. I came back a few times(a year or so apart each) because i thougut the ich would be gone and they had the exact fish i wanted for a good price but each time they had terrible ich that was not visible at the time of purchase. I spent so much money on ich treatments and so muxh time on water changes but nothing helped. The same thing also happened to my friend to a lesser degree and only once though so i would be careful with the fish.
I was specifically looking for a female Chinchilla. The first time I was told they had them so I took a 40-something minute drive out to BTJ and when I arrived they told me that they didnt have them in, but they where getting females in 2 days. So I feel I was told that they had females just to get me in there to possibly sell me a male. As said, I needed a female and that I should call back in 2 days because they will have females for sale.I called back today and they told me that all they got in where males, and the only ones where babies and couldnt be brought home....Also just to throw in, when I visited they had this guy handling the chinchilla males and the way he grabbed them was very fast and rough, and that is not good for chinchillas because they have a very sensitive rib cage especially at a few weeks old.Not only do they lie about certain things to try and get you in, but also they have people that dont handle animals well or gently at all.If I could Id give this place a 0.
They have alot at this pet shop. This is not the run of the mill shop. Great selection and very knowledgeable staff. Forget the main stream big brand store. Support the local shops. Knowledge is power and the staff is very willing to help. Been going to this shope since im a kid, across the street before it burnt down.
Very expensive by any stores measure, but I dont really care about that. I saw one of the owners handling a Yellow Nape Amazon with such poor care, I was stunned. The woman wanted to get the fairly large parrot out of its cage. It was clear from how the parrot avoided her (it went to the top of the cage and avoided her hand) that it did not trust her fully enough to be out with her, and also it was a pretty big crowd of people. Around five or six. She laughed it off, as if the bird was just being playful, and forced it out by taking a black tube (the type for running hoses) and forced the bird out. After, she allowed a young child to try to handle the bird, who was clearly distressed and not at all comfortable with being out.It was a pretty weird display, ESPECIALLY when, while trying to sell the bird, she said Amazons were talkative, but cockatoos are not? Honestly, she was feeding false information and it was pretty deplorable. It seems more likely that the woman was trying to make a sale, not trying to find a good home for the bird. Not going back any time soon.
First off, youd probably have better customer service in an actual jungle, and the animals are probably healthier. Ive been here multiple times, and every time felt like I was an annoyance to the employees. No one every greeted me or asked if I needed help, only speaking, quite rudely, when asked a question. I bought a young parakeet here and it died from a bacterial infection it contracted from BTJs. Their prices are way too high for the sick, distressed animals, and poor quality items they sell. The upkeep of the store is also disgusting, flies everywhere, outdated products, bedding from small animals and birds all over the place, the smell of the fish department is horrendous and smells like death, and theres dust everywhere. Im not sure about the rest of their animals but theyre treatment of their breeding birds is also terrible. Theres between 2-4 birds in one small cage, the water is dirty, they feed them a bad seed mix, and they always have plucked feathers from boredom and lack of stimulation since there are no toys in the cage at all. Im surprised they still make money off of them. I went there today and asked for the price of a Solomon Island Eclectus parrot and was told that they are $2000, followed by an insult from the employee saying that I probably couldnt afford it anyway before I said whether I would buy the bird or not. Theyre also scamming novice pet owners by selling overpriced animals (like a $200 budgie by claiming that it isnt a parakeet) that one could easily get from a breeder for a better price in a healthier environment. Youd have a better experience at a name brand pet store like petco or petsmart, save yourself the trouble of keeping this horrible place of business.
Malnourished animals all over this place. It upsets me walking into a place like this and seeing half the tanks empty and over 3 animals dead. You can tell they dont really know what they are doing and are short handed. Just depressing seeing fatigued lizards, a dead boa and dead mice. Truly disgusted.
Ill never go back. I bought a hamster for my daughter. After a while, he developed sores all over him. I called the store for help. A woman, who was very rude in general, did not offer any advice or any expertise into what it might be. She just said Look, I dont know how youre treating the animal, so what can I tell ya? Im thinking I called to get help for the animal and youre treating it like youre being questioned by a policeman and dont want to get involved. Then, when my daughter got tired of some other animals, we offered them to the store. The owner didnt thank us. He just whined about the condition of the cages..... the cages we just gave him for free. Some people just really dont belong in customer service. The idea is to make people want to come back.
Went there yesterday to buy a tortoise and complete setup. Said hello to owners wife I think and apparently that was a problem. Shot me a look like I bothered her and didnt even say anything. I guess I bothered her while stocking the shelf.theres plenty of reviews on this place for being nasty. Spent my 400 down the road
Well most of the fish you see are sick, dying, or dead constantly sick fish. The store isn’t what it used to be for any aquarium or reptile owner please take your money else where you would be better off at meeting people who actually care about animals they simply have lost that love
They have no regard for their animals. The place is fly ridden, smelly, and all the animals look sad and depraved. I can’t believe they’d treat animals the way that they do. Small cages and unsuitable living conditions are the norm. I definitely wouldn’t recommend going here if you want well kept, healthy animals.
My husband got me a rabbit from this place and is growing healthy, I get all the supplies from here, very nice staff, my rabbit loves the smell of the hay I get from here earthy and grassy definitely better than the compact stuff you get at petco or walmart, wide variety of animals and fun to go and see whats new
I went in there today I spent a lot of time looking around most pet stores would just not help me they were very informative and had a lot of knowledge and explain every fish to me and help me pick out a great selection most places I go I never spend a lot of money the first time because I hate the places that only help you if youre spending hundreds of dollars which I eventually do but I could tell this place will treat you the same if you spend $5 or $500 thats why I will be going back picked up two Rams for snails to plants and two of some other fish I forgot
Everytime i go in there everyone is knowledgeable and willing to help. If the dont know they point you in the right direction and grab the attention of someone who does, which is uncharacteristic of most places, most people do not want to admit that they dont know something which leads to problems with pets. Between bill and a couple others my pond is flourishing since they gave me insight on what to do since day one. I greatly appreciate their help every visit. 100% recommendation to anyone who reads this. I find even if its a few dollars more which most of the time it isnt, it is hard to find true knowledgeable advice. I found it here.
This pet shop is nice/clean with a variety of food and items to purchase for your pets. Also, they have numerous small animals, reptiles, fishes and pigs... My issue with this pet shop is the stinginess with the owners buying my three baby rabbits for $10 dollars EACH while they’re selling baby rabbits between the prices of $90-100 EACH... I thought they would have gave me and my sister at least $30 for each rabbit or half the price they sell each baby rabbit. These people are con-artist trying to steal from non-breeders like me and lie on the phone about “selling them by their colors.” I hope my baby rabbits get a great home and I will NEVER do business with this facility again!
Not that they check there reviews one stars because I brought a 4700 saltwater tank over 100 gallons no protein skimmer install of the tank is all wrong no shut off valve had to rehire a true professional to come out and do the entire sump correctlyNever never never never never never never never never never never never never againI am afraid to go back for my free fish because all the fish they have was dying
Today i went to btj jungle to purchase crickets and a light for my lizard.in the course of trying to get assistance i was not only ignored but i would have associates pass me nd proceed to ask other customers if they needed assistance. I may never go back after being treated this way and i dont recommend going there if you need assistance.
This place is disgusting the animals there aren’t kept right at all the customer service is horrible and the lady that you will see all the time there which I’m guessing is part owner has the worst attitude problem I like going there because of the variety or animals they have but when I went to go buy something today everything goes wrong, the poor girl helping me didn’t know anything about any of the animals there and when I wanted my pet it took her 5 million yrs to get it and it bit her, she also decided that she wanted to put my pet in a box and poked out one of the air holes in the box in which I question if the animal would get lose she said she THINKS it would be fine so I go home with my new pet and open the box in the cage to find the box EMTY -_______- I call to tell them what happened and the lady there says “WELL WHEN I RANG YOU UP I FELT THE LIZZARD IN THERE” so she’s basically saying I don’t give a crap of what happened and YEAH LADY WHEN I LEFT THERE AND CAME TO MY HOUSE THE BOX FELT PRITTY FULL TOO UNTILL I OPENED IT TO FIND NOTHING IN THERE!!!!!!!!!
Like I said please avoid this place by all means he will not create any sanity but just the opposite you will be confronted with frustrations anointment and facades so overall if you do business with this place the repercussions will not benefit you and you will regret the first time you entered this business so please take my advice my reviews speak highly since I was just there and I got no cooperation whatsoever like I stated they dont care its all about them making money

2021-07-28More than the average pet store. Lots of cool animals to see. My son loved it here. We just came to buy supplies for our turtle but enjoyed the store for 30 mins.

2022-06-03I’d give zero stars if I could. The most depressing fish store I’ve ever been to. The place smelled, was dirty and the fish water was deplorable. The fish are cramped into small tanks. They had large fish in 5-10 gallon tanks and they could barely move. It was sad to see. I would never support a place like this and I hope no one else does. No one who cares for fish would ever treat fish in this way.

2022-04-20We visited just for fun to see the animals and the staff didnt seem to mind at all, they even made themselves available to answer questions and let us pet the bunnies. Theres quite a variety of things to see, really almost as good as some zoos but with less walking. Oh and also if you have pets you can get plenty of supplies here.

2022-03-28They have a large variety of different animals but they are kept in awful conditions. they have way too many animals in the same cages. the animals they sell are priced pretty high so they probably won’t be sold as quickly they are kept together in tiny cages. soo many fish in the same tiny tank it’s seriously heartbreaking the animals deserve better

2021-02-04On January 19th I bought a baby rabbit I named biscuit. He looked sad and was stuck in a corner because the cage was packed with other bunnies. I love him because he did bite anything in my apartment and my whole family loved him too. Biscuit died within the 12 days I owned him. I rushed him to the veterany hospital and they did everything to save him but he died in my arms. I grow up with all kinds of pet and I never had a baby die in my arms. When I went back the owner avoided me like the plague. The bunny I got was from another state. They didnt get them checked out by a vet before selling them. I would avoid buying anything from them. Their hay was dry and old. The pellets werent good at all and thats what the feed the bunnies before they sell them to the public. The vet bill and everything buy that biscuit need cost me over a grand. The owner is just out to make a profit and nothing else. Go adopt a pet.

2018-12-19Absolutely the best place to get any pet. Amazingly friendly and just because we were treated so nice we bought all of our fish equipment there. It is the most family-orientated atmosphere very well knowledgeable staff and I must visit even if you dont buy any pets or supplies. I really wish I had this store in my neighborhood a plus definitely A++. must visit. I believe the gentlemans name was Bill really amazing guy I think he was the owner as well. Thank you for treating my family well and letting the girls have see the beautiful bunnies

2022-04-07I went here to buy fish, and I saw multiple fish in tanks that were way too small for them. I particularly was appalled by the Midas cichlid in a small tank they could barely move in when they require anywhere from 55- 75 gallon tanks. Super upset by what I saw. I will not be returning.
