The counter person, who was the only one there: cleaning cars and checking guest in was still very pleasant and helpful. I normally use another car rental service, but they didnt have a SUV available. I am very pleased with the service and pricing, Budget will be my go to for rentals now!
I prepaid purposely for a Toyota Prius Hybrid and ended up with a Kia Forte that was not even a Hybrid and best milage I got was 43 MPG AND THE SEATS WAS COMPLETELY UNCOMFORTABLE UNCOMFORTABLE. I think I should be compensated more for my inconvenience than a tank of gas. I will think twice before prepaying ever again and maybe even a different company.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: I returned the car a day early, and was promised that my fee would be adjusted, but not only was I charged more than expected, I was never sent an invoice or receipt! And I cant use your app or log into your site because you are the only company in the world that requires me to use a 10-character password (which does not suit my 8-character security paradigms). So I feel mislead and under-served.UPDATE: After reading my review above, a helpful person from Budget contacted me proactively, and said that they were sorry for the issue and they also promptly issued me a credit for the early return! You know, everyone makes mistakes, but it is how you fix them that matters. I am impressed, and pushed this up to 4 stars because that is real service. (Get rid of that unnecessary 10-character password requirement and you would get a 5 stars from me!) Thanks Budget!
Rented a car here. Had no issues with it. Paying the under 25 insurance is really a pain but there’s no way to get around it. Check in was easy the person at the counter was super friendly and easy going. The car was clean and returning it in the middle of the night was easy as well.
Was a bit disappointed with the cleanliness of the car. Every time I have rented a car in the past, they are absolutely spotless and Ive felt almost like I was getting a brand new car. This car had not been vacuumed really well, there were a couple of spots on the upholstery that looked like they could have easily been cleaned and the plastic surfaces in the car didnt looked like they had been wiped down all that well either. Given the current COVID situation, I had definitely expected much better than I received. I do also miss being given the option of what car I would like - it used to be that I would be given the option of like 3 different cars in the class that I chose when I arrived at the counter. Now I am just assigned a vehicle with sometimes disappointing vehicles. Im usually driving these vehicles long distances, so want something comfortable and fun. I wasnt impressed with the Toyota Camry that I was given on this trip and definitely would have preferred something like a Ford Fusion or another time I was given a Dodge Charger.
Agent NEVER answered the phone when our flight was delayed. No key was left for our reservation. I incurred several charges for transportation both leaving and returning to the location the following day for pick up. The vehicle was filthy, there was animal hair throughout (the same animal hair that was on the agents clothing that couldnt answer the phone the day before).
The amount of times I have to contact Budget for being overcharged is ridiculous. I left the car one day BEFORE my rental was due and just got a $200+ charge to my account. How does that make sense? When I didn’t have a spare tire, you had to pick up the car and I didn’t get a new one. Charged me for the entire rental period (didn’t complain even though I asked for the portion I didn’t have the car) and then proceeded to charge me a ridiculous $300+. I’ve also filled the tanks previously literally right outside the airport and then I’m charged for gas — that I KNOW the car’s tank was full. Lots of bad handling of situations and it’s clear on Facebook that it happens to a bunch of people. Just sad because I’m a very recurrent AND LOYAL renter, but this time you’ve lost me as a customer.
It was not the car I reserved but that i over looked but the car i was given smelled like an ash tray. It made me sick to my stomach and I my hair and clothes all smelled when I got home. There were burn marks in the car as well. For a newer car who ever had it before me destroyed it. I work at the airport and rent cars often due to traveling. This is my first bad experience with a car that smelled like this. 😔
I paid for a full-sized sedan and received a compact sedan. I came back inside and asked if I could have a vehicle that classifies as what I paid for or something close, and I waited upwards of thirty minutes. I was not told the total cost of the vehicle after the transaction, and my credit card was charged a huge amount that I was not expecting. Lastly, he didn’t finish with me first and moved on with other customers as I just waited. Very aggravating experience, especially when you’re on a time crunch.
This business is very unprofessional. I have rented from them a few times out of necessity due to Budget at the Syracuse NY airport being open slightly-later at night. Renting a car from Buidget in Syracuse to then return at Budget in Ithaca, what I get at Ithaca is a) often there is no attendant at the front desk + b) if you want to call and follow up to get a receipt emailed to you, nobody will answer. Instead, it will kick things over to the Budget corporate/general helpline, where they dont have records and instead ask you to contact Budget locally in Ithaca. Very frustrating. Ive been using Enterprise for my business needs (frequent travel) and can attest that the attention, responsiveness, and quality of service is orders of magnitude better at Enterprise over Budget.
They rented me a car without a remote and told me to use the key to lock the car. I tried to return the car but there were no other cars. What they did not realize is that you cant turn off the car alarm without the remote. I could not start car with the car alarming so had to call roadside assistance and the Avis/Budget representative and they told me that they should not have rented me a car without the remote. When I complained to the staff when I returned the car, he told me that he they rent all the time because many of their cars do not have the remote and hes never had a problem. I would not rent from Avis/Budget at the Ithaca airport. I have never rented a car without a remote.
I had a confirmed reservation for $110. That day, I called to ask about pushing my pick-up time back 4 hours. I was told that was fine and it would not change anything else about my reservation.When I showed up the price was $163. That is a $53 increase. Apparently they considered the delayed pick-up time new reservation. The guy at the counter was of no help. I called customer service and all they could tell me was that there was no way for them to change the price. It did not matter that I was told the price would stay the same, whoever told me that was wrong, and they could not help me.What really infuriated me was their complete refusal to make this right. It was the end of the day and all the other counters were closed, so I have no choice but to pay the higher price.I have rented plenty of cars in the past. I have NEVER been up-charged for changing the pickup time, and if there have ever been problems with a rental, someone had the authority to make it right. Heck, just give me a $53 Sorry We Screwed Up discount to make it come out even.I tried calling customer service again afterwards to give them one last chance to make this right. I was on hold for a few minutes, then got disconnected, and never heard back.The problem is not just the location, it is the company itself.I cant imagine ever booking with this company again.
The staff (just one person in the desk) was rude and not really friendly. The car was ok, but no help about its use, to checking the details of the car. I have to ask all about. I rent a kid seat that was really dirty. Asked for another one, but again, not help at all. We forgot something in the car and never answer the call we made during a week. Only a machine that dont have the option to contact the person at the local office was allowed. I think I will not use Budget anymore, at least the office of Ithaca, NY.
Having a very difficult time tracking down a very valuable item that was left in a car at this Budget Car Rental. I have called the number four days in a row multiple times a day and no one picks up. If there is another means to get in touch with this particular car rental let me know.
Car was fine - easy location to drop off. The frustrating part is the local office never picks up when you try to call them. I am trying to get in touch with them for an item I lost in the car but no one picks up and I roll over to their national reservation line. No option to even leave a message
The clerk was rude. When I asked him for a copy of my bill -- to claim the expense from my employer -- he complained that he would need to inspect the car. Where had I left it? I told him that I parked the car in the lot from which I had picked it up. He responded with sarcasm, implying that I was an idiot for not seeing the sign directing returns to a parking lot at the other side of the airport. I offered to park the car in the other lot, but he dismissed that notion because dings and dents usually occur that way. I told him that I didnt like his patronizing attitude, and he responded by insulting my intelligence because I hadnt seen the nine-foot sign. I pointed out that if drivers were told at the time of renting that the car needed to be returned elsewhere, it would be helpful. When I said that I would not rent from Budget again, he said, Good. This person is in his 60s, small in stature, with large-framed horn-rimmed glasses.
Do not rent from this company. Have you ever wondered why your credit score goes down after you rent a car? Well Budget checks your credit without telling you every time you rent a car from them. I paid a deposit with a travel company which was taken but when arriving at air port refused my debit card, refused to take cash and refused any other form of payment then told the public that my credit was not acceptable to them to rent me a car. Federal Law requires all companies to inform you they are running your credit, But Budget does not follow that Law. There are other laws that most companies are required to follow, But Budget in Ithaca, New York does not care about any of them. I was forced to Fly to my destination and not only did they take my money they did not check my credit! This company deserves NO STARS, but you cant post a comment without choosing one
Check-in gentleman isnt the friendliest.The car I was given was a total disappointment. This particular Nissan Sentra had a CVT (belt-drive) transmission. It nearly burnt itself to death driving up and down the STEEP hills above Ithaca. I smelled the burning rubber belt after driving uphill, pulled into hotel and parked car at hotel. I would never accept another CVT equipped vehicle again!
Ahhh.... Do not reserve a vehicle for 9AM especially on Sundays. The sign and site says 9AM but umm yeah they don’t get in until 10:30 and after. A line of people waited for over an hour. Once I saw that, I was not willing to do an express drop off and risk having any issues come up after.🤔
Budget Representatives at the Ithaca airport were very friendly and unfortunately I couldnt get ahold of them directly because I I had to extend the rental for one day but once I returned the vehicle the customer service agent was very happy to health and address the problem and it was a pleasant experience. As an international student, I really travel back and forth from the States and China a lot, and I’m always renting a car from here and driving it to EWR or JFK.I don’t need any thing more than a simple process and fast services, and based on that, they are doing just fine for me.
Very unhelpful an very rude.. would not reccomend at all..and they charge 25 precent tax because its at the airport, nothing like socking it to you when your travel plans already screwed up due to weather..an i actually had to go online to book because they told me they didnt have any to rent...but when i did it online they suddently had a car for me, however, very costly..
The staff here needs training. Very rude and unprofessional. I would give a zero star if i could. Went there three times. All 3 staffs were rude. I would never recommend this place to anyone ever again. I will make sure everyone knows about how rude the staffs here are.

2022-01-04The lady I deal with Ive been dealing with for about 3 years, she has done me right and I respect the fact that shes there with a smile under her mask. I remember when she was pregnant and still gave the best customer service. She has the right answers and is always willing to help find something that can be even more comfortable. Helps finds us a rental at a different state that I was visiting. Over all the airport budget is the coolest but greatest. Keep up the good work guys.....

2022-05-08I am trying to resolve the $270 charge for a car that was rented for $70. There was no damage to the car and the car was returned on time with the gas tank full. The phone representative that I spoke to was slightly hostile and very unhelpful. I hope I can do bussiness with Budget again. This should have been resolved easily with a phone call but it has not.

2022-05-28The Ithaca airport location is very convenient for us. Very helpful staff. The car was excellent. The only issue is airport signage. The sign indicating rental returns is mostly covered by overgrown shrubs. Had to go around twice to find it

2022-01-11My wife and I have asked every other rental company in the area for a weekly rental and everyone in a really ridiculous amount of money budget has accommodated us for our profit of how we go for the vehicle. Everything that this company has done for us was amazing and will definitely return for another run on the future. I am sure going to miss my Kia forte that we rented and we call it a kia pet 🐶. 2021-09-30From pickup to return of my rental vehicle, the process was extremely smooth. The Budget Reps were very friendly, courteous and knowledgeable. Prices are very reasonable and the vehicle was new and without any issues. Overall, I highly recommend Budget and I will definitely be a return customer. Thank you!

2021-06-11I made a prepaid reservation online. But as I came to rent the car and gave my credit card to pay the $200 deposit, the employee at the counter was extremely rude and told me that that the card was not working and that I must call my bank and fix it because he was not going to give me any car. I felt attacked and discriminated against. I called the bank and they said that there shouldnt be any problem since I have enough money in my account. However, when I gave the credit card again to the employee, he said that it didnt work. I asked if a client had ever had a problem like mine before, and I asked if there was another solution, but the employee aggressively stated that I only had one option to pay and I must fix it myself...I asked him about the sign behind his back that stated clearly that It is unlawful for any rental vehicle company to refuse to rent a vehicle to any person solely on the requirement of ownership of a credit card. however the employee said that it was an old sign that does not apply anymore. Throughout the whole time, I felt that the reason he wouldnt let me rent a car was that I was a foreign student and he just didnt want to help me any way. The next day, I rented a car from Avis which was at the same counter and my credit card worked perfectly fine. Never book a car with Budget again!

2021-06-08I picked up my rental at Ithaca and dropped off at the Newark Airport. Pickup was fast, could of been more thorough or friendly. Ive been in this business and I know what to expect. I paid for the pre-paid gas but that was not necessary as the vehicle was very economical and I would of only needed to add about 5 gallons of gas in the camry as I was in ECO mode most of the time. The company charged me $50 of gas which is nowhere near equivalent. I paid for the Tolls but didnt need that either. What really stood out to me was the drop off. The man in the parking lot was kind, helpful, and quick. He could see my hands were full with my daughter and helped bring a cart for our luggage immediately. He directed us exactly where to go to get our tram and flight. Thank you to this gentleman who really knows what true customer service and excellence is all about!

2021-09-16Go anywhere else but here, van we rented was not clean, dog drool all over the windows. Oil maintenance warning light on, when I said something they said not to worry about it. The speedometer was not keeping correct speed information. Something caused the car to bounce over 50 MPH, I believe it was in need of new tires. Left something in the van and I called to ask them if it was there and they told me no they just got back from looking at it. Just as much hung up I got a call from the person that rented it the night after ( which means there was no way she could have just been looking in it like she had told me.) He said that he had found what we left and met with us to pick it up! Thank God there are some honest people still left in the world! However unfortunately, they dont work at budget, sadly.
