Budget Car Rental in other cities:
Worst service ever they are the worst budget car rental in the whole us they will scam you so bad that they you would regret your visit there later in life I’m not even joking, cars are super dirty, stinky, nasty as if homeless people drove it for years and later budget bought them to rent out. I’m surprised these many one star reviews from customers yet haven’t brought to budget corp attention
My rental car was DISGUSTINGLY DIRTY. I am beyond upset that I paid so much money for it. I took pics and have attached them. They clearly didn’t clean it, and we are in the middle of a global pandemic where things should not only be cleaned, but SANITIZED, in order to stay healthy and safe. This is unacceptable and I need someone to contact me. I tried calling several times and was stuck on hold for hours. The car was DISGUSTING and DIRTY. Forget about the insane amount of stains; there was actual DIRT and wrappers, etc. it was clearly not cleaned AT ALL.Do not rent from here unless you want to pay over $100 a day for a dirty compact car.
I made reservation on line to pick car up at 8:30 AM on 12/30/21. the night before Budget emailed me to reserve my car since they were going fast. I reserved my car and decided to pay up front. When i printed out my receipt for the reservation the system changed my reservation to 11PM (23:00) on 12/30/21. I did not change the date. I tried calling Budget but was informed that we only answer the phone on the next day at 8 AM. I went on line & found a 24 hour reservation number. i called someone in Mexico apologized and changed the reservation back to 8:30 AM 12/30/21. She sent me an email I then got a second email saying that my paid reservation (for 11:30 PM) had been cancelled and that my credit card would be credited MINUS A PENALTY FEE. FOR THIS REASON I AM UPSET. I SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN CHARGED SINCE I DID NOT CHANGE THE DATE WHEN I PAID UP FRONT FOR A RESERVATION AT 8;30 AM.
We had a problem on our way back. Around 9.30 pm we tried to open the car but the key did not work because the key’s battery was down. Then we open the car manually with the physical key but the car’s alarm turn on and it did not allow us to start the car. We called the road assistance several times (the number on the car’s key) but each time they tried to put us through with an operator the line went down and we stayed on the line at least one hour. The office dis not answer to our call as well. At the end we found a trick on YouTube how to solve the problem and we could go back home. We can not imagine the situation if something more serious occurred to the car later at night. Nobody helped us. We understand it was Memorial Day but this does not excuse this completely absence of assistance. We were with a 4 years toddler. When we returned the car we explained the situation but Budget just minimized the problem. We rented the car several time with Budget but we will think twice in the future
The people working in the office were very good. However the staff they have outside are awful. I was returning my car there and I was told there is no space and that I d have to go somewhere else. Was literally driving around in circles and couldn’t find anywhere to return the car. Because I was running late, I ended up leaving the car at a different budget location (the one in midtown). Of course I had to pay 25 dollars because I left the car at a different location but whatever, Budget just lost my business forever.Edit: forgot to mention that I was trying to call Budget for more than 20 minutes and no one picked up.
I rented a sedan and they didnt have any when I showed up. Then I get a minivan (only one available) that has LESS than a quarter tank of gas. I returned it with a full tank, that cost me over $45 to fill. Then I get a receipt with a gas charge claiming that I didnt fill up the tank all the way. Which is complete BS. I am cancelling my future rentals with Budget and going with other car rental companies, (there are many they dont own).
We pre-booked the rental car online. Picked the features we wanted and even did the online check-in the night before. When we went to pick up the car, none of the features we wanted were given to us (even though we already paid for them) This included an EZPass - we were given a strange e-toll for Florida that did not work (we were in NY) and then charged an additional $123.70 after we returned the car (plus we filled the gas tank for $20 even though we pre-paid for the gas option because the Budget attendant told us we had to). The car was suppose to be $270 and ended up costing $413.
I rent from the east 87th location in New York and the staff is always so helpful. I especially would like to recognize Bobby. He is always super pleasant and helpful and super on the ball! I also loved my car - the Subaru Forrester! Great ride and so well designed! Thanks and see you soon!
This is a great place to rent a car. Although at the time I only met two persons who work there. I believe the agent that attended me, his is Marcelino or Marcelo or something of that nature. Hes a great person to talk with. He will help you out. Hes very courteous and very polite and professional. Yes I would recommend anyone that wants to rent a car from budget to feel free to do so in that location.
Great Place with great customer service!Marcello is absolutely the BEST! Humble, nice, easy to deal with, and trying to make everything work unlike most car rentals.Keeps his cool even when theres tonz of people anxious and yelling. Go when hes there and youll have a awesome experience!Enjoy your drink Marcello!
The staff was pleasant but there was a huge line and it took an hour to get our car despite having a reservation beforehand. The car smelled like cigarettes and air freshener and there was a “no wiper fluid” alert (and no wiper fluid of course). We were so behind schedule that we didn’t want to add an out her hour asking for a cleaner car so we rode with the windows down. We won’t use this location again.
I supposed to pickup a car at 3pm on 336 58th st Manhattan, NY by reservation. But when I get there 15 minutes early they closed already with out call me or email anything. Very disappointed. I have to contact another Budget location cost me 30 mins taking taxi to New location. Bad service.
Was overcharged by greater than 2x the quoted rental when the vehicle was returned early, fully-fueled to the correct location. The counter staff provided absolutely no help and the customer service representative on the phone shouted at me. This was a horrible customer service experience, not to mention an absolutely gouging rip-off during a pandemic.
Budget charge me charges that I never had the option to reject, I sadly believe in the honesty of the person who attend me at the desk but she was talking by phone, and just said sign here, never asked me to reject insurance which were covered by my credit card insurance. Thats not professional, it was a robbery. I had to create complaint with the help of the LA budget service line (the ones that really save Budgets credibility). Never use Budget, really dissapointing experience.
RENTERS BEWARE! I rented a vehicle from them five weeks ago had it for less than 24 hours, went through 5 tolls which were charged to the easy pass connected to the vehicle I was renting. That balance due was taken out of my account four days later, no problem! Three weeks after renting I was charged another $12 for toll fee on a car that I was not driving and had not rented, And I’m not a car owner so I don’t have an easy pass account. When I contacted budget I was told that it was a third-party issue and that I needed to contact easy pass, which is ridiculous, because I’m pretty sure that it’s up to budget to make sure previous renters personal information is in no way association with that car once its return.
The woman at LaGuardia airport where I was originally supposed to pick up the car... she was absolutely awful. I honestly dont know how she has a job anywhere let alone customer service. Also the fact that some places can and some places cant use a debit card to pay should definitely change. Overall using budget to rent my car was the beginning to a bad trip. Rude employee(just the first one).. wont take debit had to drive to another spot and reschedule. Just to be told they dont have cars only much larger vehicles. Tripling my gas expenses. Also charging me $100 more to get the bigger vehicle. Really really bad business standards.
Your team is excellent in the E87th St (New York City) location! The man who checked me in, Ezequiel, was great. The man who showed me the car was great (sorry, I didnt get his name)-he told me that it was practically new and walked around it to make sure that if there were any dents they would be noted. I loved this car--can I always have a Mitsubishi Outlander? Please? The man who took the car today, Marcello, was great! You make it so easy--and as a super busy person, I very much appreciate it. Your cars are in good shape--and clean. Again, please may I always have a Mitsubshi Outlander? I would be so appreciative (especially when I rent a smaller one and I get this one as a surprise!!).
Ended up with a Nissan Versa at the 87th street location because the one on 9th street was unable to provide service at the time. Not my vehicle of choice, but something on short notice, and at a reasonable cost I cannot complain. Was able to get to Niagara Falls in one peace.
Terrible service I pulled up and the attendant started yelling at me because apparently he wanted to wave me down. The problem is that is was pouring rain with 0 visibility and dark. I explained that but he remained unapologetic and continued to berate me. No decency let alone costumer service. Never again with budget that’s for sure. Ridiculous
1) Car not available when I showed up at my booking time. Returned later that day after calling to ensure a car was available and the staff was unable to process the paper work.2) The next day I was assured that I would not be charged for the previous day, and would get $100 off the bill. I was charged the full original amount including the day I did not have the car.3) No windshield wiper fluid in car.4) I returned the car on time and was charged for an extra hour, which was equivalent to half my daily rate.5) The staff was consistently rude and confrontational on the phone and in person.
Inconsistent service compared to other locations on rental drop off. Charging a ridiculous extra fee for a normal amount of residual dirt/hair on the floor as if they don’t clean their cars at all between rentals. Meanwhile they took an hour from my initial pick up time to actually bring the car out. Mediocre customer service, look elsewhere.
The car pickup was horrendous. I arrived on time for my pick up, was 20th in line and waited 2.5 hours for my car in a disorganized chaotic scene that cannot be blamed on Covid. I shared the line with customers who told me that is was ALWAYS like this with Budget in NYC.
Be careful of this location! Google reviewers are right- this budget location charged me fuel fee 14.99 secretly on my receipt when I returned the car with full tank back! I went to the gas station right before returning the car with full tank, told the guy receiving the car the tank is full, he didn’t check at all, and I saw this unexpected charge listed! He asked me to go speak to the front desk. The lady at the front desk asked me “did you bring a receipt from gas station with you?” Oh my gosh, the tank is full! I have never experienced such a scam! I didn’t have the gas station receipt with me because it didn’t get printed and I didn’t think it’d be a problem. Luckily my daughter was with me and proved that we just went to the gas station right before returning the car.I have been a loyal budget user forever. This is the first time I rented from this location, and am very surprised this is how people run it here. I checked google reviews before renting from here, and paid extra attention on the receipt since there were many similar complains. Budget should investigate this location. This is deceiving.
The agents at the rental office were professional, customer friendly and polite. The car (Ford Fusion) we rented was perfect for our group of four. It was comfortable, clean, great mileage and a quiet ride. Upon our return, the staff was very courteous and efficient. He processed my return paperwork while we unloaded our things. By the time we were done, we were set to go. All in all, a great experience with Budget. Ill be back.
No cars available for 2 hours past my reservation, about 10 people waiting for cars as well. The people working there were nice. Woman offered me a free tank of gas because of my delay. I get checked out today and they charge me for refilling gas! On customer service with two people for 20 to 30 minutes today to get a $16 charge overturned. What a mess!
When I went to drop off my rental there was a sign above the drop off entrance that said “Do Not Enter”. Apparently that is supposed to be disregarded as what seemed to be the security person rudely insulted me. Poor customer service all around. Wouldn’t use them again.
I rent whenever possible from Budget at this location. While convenience and price are important factors, the staff makes the ultimate difference. I have yet to meet someone as welcoming and helpful at another rental car company as when I pick up my car here - and drop off is easy, friendly and fast. They seem to work hard and maintain a great attitude even when the place is at its busiest. As a frequent renter, I really appreciate that.
This super scammy franchise location has soured me on Budget. Tried to get my sister to “give them a good tip” “under the table” at drop-off to avoid paying the $250 cleaning fee for an “extremely dirty” interior. We’re frequent renters in the city without a car payment, and this was a complete hustle. If you’re deep cleaning your rental cars for COVID these days, that would more than take care of anything we left. No spilled drinks or loose trash - normal use only. Besides, if the normal crew could clean it up for tip money, they could just as well do their job without having to con a young renter. Don’t get taken for a ride with Budget!!!
Because I was specifically told when asked that I would have 24 hours to return the car, and got charged a late fee anyway, and then $95 for less than 1/4 of a tank that needed to be filled. That is insane. I will never be using your services again, nor will I recommend it. Additionally nobody in the store was wearing a mask including the woman at the desk!
Do not trust the employees working the desk they are inadequate with their abilities to give proper service. They offered us a upgrade for 40 dollars so we could leave faster instead of waiting for a compact car and we foolishly accepted. But what they really did was charge us for a whole new rental besides the one we already had at a way higher rate. We found out a week later and budget office said they would fix it. They did not. They charged back the old rental agreement we had which was way cheaper and charged us a few extra hundred dollars. If you wish to have a reliable, trustworthy, and convenient customer experience go elsewhere.
I always use enterprise for sake of location and convenience, I never knew anything different. Enterprise was sold out so I had no choice, I reserved a car with budget. I was supposed to pick up my car at 9:00am this morning 5/16/2020. There was a line deep of 8 groups in front of us, all waiting to check in with someone. There is one person working, averaging about 10 minutes per group. I’m 7 months pregnant sitting in this garage on the hottest day of the year. I gave up waiting - and left my husband to deal with this. When I left budget, there were another 10+ groups of people behind us. It’s now 10:00 and we’re no where closer to getting a car. I’m extremely disappointed in the professionalism from budget. No one answers the phone. I work in healthcare, and this is my second day off in 77 days due to my response in fighting covid-19 and I was going to drive to visit my parents. This has delayed me by over an hour, I will never rent a car from budget again. UPDATE: It’s now 11:04am and we got a car. When my husband left there were over 25 groups behind him waiting for a car. AWFUL EXPERIENCE. BEYOND AWFUL.
Staff was extremely professional and helpful every step of the way. They helped me save money by informing me about the EZ Pass solution. Without it, I would have paid $$ in tolls. Fortunately, Budget had my best interest in mind and I left a happy customer.I thought the car was very clean. Budget did a great job taking COVID-19 precautions.
I was a victim of price gouging by Budget. I had reserved a compact car for a given rate and when I showed up they said they were out of compact cars and only had SUVs. The woman behind the front desk said I would have to wait 3.5 hours for them to possibly receive a compact car or Id have to pay an extra $30/day for the compact cars. Either I had to wait around for a car I had reserved, which wasnt possible in the current Covid-19 environment, pay extra money, or incur a large cancellation fee. There was a 311 sign behind the front desk saying this practice was not allowed by law anyways. This practice was absurd. Whats the point of a reservation if its not honored?!
The employee at the desk -- Marcello Sabella -- and his manager -- James Byrd -- are wonderful. They couldnt be more accommodating, they gave me helpful advice and explanations of options for coverage and more. They are knowledgeable, courteous and kind. James made sure I had a great car and he walked me over to -- thats service (and with his smile). Marcello was working the last time I was there and when I walked in the door -- it had been 3 months -- he greeted me by name, asked about my mother (who was with me last time) and even asked about a trip I had taken. Now THAT is amazing!! (I wish I had his memory!) I would give them both a raise to keep them happy -- you dont want to lose top-caliber people like Marcello and James!
We made a reservation from nyc to dc 2 days before pick up for $133.78. When we arrive at the pickup spot they told us we could not attain the car without a major credit card.. something that is not specified on the website for that location. We called customer service and they rebooked the car at 87th street.. even told us the price dropped to $105. When we arrived to 87th street we were told that the car was reserved to come back to 87th street which was not in our original confirmation not the confirmation reassigned, i clearly didnt want a round trip, and we express that to the agent as she switch the location. To take the car I paid an additional $100. When I dropped the car off I paid another $141.75. I called customer service yet again and they claimed that it was our fault for booking the same day. I talked to a representative that realized the fault and offered a $280 refund which was better. Ad I checked my account I realized that the amounts of what was taken had changed. Not only did I pay the initial $133.78 but I was charged $141.75 instead of the $100 at pick up, and $241.75 instead of the $141 at drop off. This is unacceptable. Jo one is listening that is was the agents fault and that I have been overcharged and just want my overpayment back
I booked a car in advanced. 4 months ago. And when I arrived at the location they didnt want to give me the car for the price I have booked. Just because I been longer in the USA than 6month. And now need to pay 850$ instead of 300$. And they never mentioned it or in the contract when I booked it. Total rib of. Never book with this company!!!!!
A customer service was great but it took 90 minutes in line to get my car. I dont know what was going on but they were so ridiculously slow. Which is odd because the girls at the counter were working really fast when I got there so I guess it was just a mad rush all at once.
I found a knife in the car. I had to go through three layers of people to get my pricing adjusted for not providing the premium car I paid for. Your staff is mostly interested in getting what is best for Budget and that does not include what is the best me... Budgets client.
Jessica was so very kind and helpful. When asked how my experience with the rental was, I politely told her that the car was kind of dirty when I picked it up with crumbs in the car and that there was no windshield wiper fluid. She kindly and unexpectedly made an adjustment to my bill. I appreciate the generosity she showed and will definitely recommend this Budget to location to friends and use them in the future.
Worst rental car experience. The clerk was rude, slow and confrontational. Waited an hour to talk to get to the desk, then he said it would be half hour to get a car out I made a reservation for, and paid in advance. They charge 10 dollars a gallon to refill gas. DON’T COME HERE!! GO TO ENTERPRISE!!!
Overall good prior experiences but had to report on an extremely unprofessional incident. Returned my car after less than 75 miles..as per the clearly written policy, if you drive less than 75 miles and don’t return the car with a full tank of gas, you can pay a flat fee of 15.99$. Well the lady first lied and stated that that’s the old policy even though the policy was still written in the paperwork on the desk (and i had rented a car just 2 weeks prior and paid that fee), then she stated that because i used 1/4 of the tank, the flat rate doesn’t apply to me. I asked to speak with the manager but of course he wasn’t available. yes in the end she grudgingly agreed to the flat 15.99$ fee but said she was making an exception. I will be sure to speak to the manager about this. Not clear what her motive was with this..unprofessional!
Expensive, the van was extremely dirty inside and outside. Only has 3/8 of gas so one has to find gas station when empty light comes on really soon. Cannot return van after hours. When returns the van next morning at 7 am. I arrived at 6:50am no attendant arrived after 7:10. The garage won’t let me drive in to the return car section. Told the clerk that I will be at the fire hydrants outside waiting. 20/30 minutes nobody comes to relief me. Pull the van in front of the entry. Got yelled at by a guy wearing an Avis shirt to move the van. Where to I ask n he cannot answer me. I spent nearly 50 minutes to return a car. I have appointment afterwards. Shame on the service, really badly run operation.
Rented a SUV for a month thru these guys.. the car was banged up, nothing was explained to us at pick up, like the Etag cage resulting in us copping fines for not having an Etag...frustrating as we did, we were just never shown how to use it. Staff were arguing in front of us to the point where we had to leave the office. I had repeat issues with the car and billing and trying to get assistance thru their call/email center was laughable. We’ve now had 6 separate charges with no receipt or explanation and they just keep coming.... to big to care. The service was just so hit and miss, not to mention the car they said we would get and the car we got were like chalk and cheese. Ask you questions up front, cause after you get the keys your on your own! There has to be a better way.
Ive picked up and dropped off at this Budget location over half a dozen times before and everything was OK. But on March 3rd 2020 I had a very disappointing experience. Something seems to change with customer facing people at this location. They claimed to not have a vehicle in my class and wanted to charge extra for an upgrade to SUV. When I raised the question thats not how it was supposed to work they became rude and started to play games with a lot of misinformation including that manager was off for the day and they didnt have any way to contact her. They refused to provide their names - thats outrageous by itself. I had to take my business elsewhere and filed a complaint with Budget HQ over the phone, but not sure if its ever going to be addressed.
Service was quick and efficient although it was way more crowded than usual. The staff in the office were very business oriented and therefore not exactly welcoming but they got the job done. Again, quickly and efficiently. The car was smaller than I expected. For an intermediate vehicle I was given a Chevy cruz
This was my first time renting a car, and the staff at this location made it such a positive one! They were prompt, friendly, and professional. They addressed all of my concerns and questions, and made me feel comfortable. Picking up and dropping off the car was quick and efficient. Will definitely be renting from this location again.
Came here for my reservation on a Sunday morning, There was a line of about 7 customers ahead of me & only one Agent Working. One foreign customer was having difficulty with his credit card and was trying to find solutions to his problem. The Agent George was trying to best help the foreign couple, while switching back and fourth computers to keep the line moving and helping the rest of the customers. Overall Good experience and the car i received was a nice Ford Fusion. Was in and out in about 20 minutes.
I go here because its cheap and convenient, and the cars are OK. One of the managers, perhaps a balding male fellow, probably increases this branchs revenue by a percent or two over what a less-aggressively-sales-focused branch would obtain using several hard-sell techniques to take advantage of customers. There are also some nicer employees.Advice:1. If you go on a weekend, pick up early. By 9 AM, the line stretches out the door and you could wait 20 minutes in the hot sun with no shade (which I have done). The discomfort preps customers to be less resistant to be shaken down inside.2. If your reservation window passes (see #1), they will change your reserved rate to the higher walk-in rate, which could be an extra $20 or more per day. Sorry, your reserved car is not available. We do have an [expensive car class]. This has never happened to me, but I saw it happen to customers ahead of me on multiple occasions. Often, the customers took the offer.3. Reservations are subject to availability and every time, I receive a smaller car class than I reserved. Of course they will also try to up-sell you to pay more for what they took away from you. Once, I reserved a mid-size vehicle and they tried to put me in a Fiat 500 (micro subcompact). I said no, threatened to complain, and they relented. I wasnt dealing with the bald guy that day, but I think he was behind the desk. You need to be firm.
The 87th street station in Manhattan is a joke - it cannot be considered a functioning place of business. My pick up time was 11a and I didnt get my car until at least 12:50p. There was only one person working at the check-in desk, with one person fetching cars. It was truly the most dysfunctional things Ive ever witnessed. Even in line, people were talking about how they much smoother and better experiences at Enterprise and Zipcar. Will not be using Budget in the future.
Scammers for sure. Avoid at all costs. Told us there would be a late fee for returning after 8pm because the reservation was from 11:30am - 8pm same day. Had it confirmed that this is untrue. You get a rental for a 24 hours period. There was a lot of confusion due to a website error and was told that it would be a $200 fee to rerun to a location 80 miles way (only reason we got the car). When I contacted them, the girl at the front desk had an attitude, talked over me, and said that I needed to call the drop location to have this fee removed. This is another lie they told. I contacted the drop location who confirmed that this is untrue.Asked to speak with a manager. Conveniently wasnt there until 3pm.Called corporate twice. got zero help from them.Go to Enterprise and save yourself the hassle.
The location was good, but can get busy at the end of the day when everyone is returning vehicles at the same time. Given the small space and staff, getting in and out was relatively easy. Budget definitely had the best deal for a long weekend rental in comparison to all of the other companies in NYC. I would rent from this location again in the future. The staff was good.
I loved it. There was really nothing to complain about. The details are pretty clear cut. You just have to know how to read and know what your looking for in a rental. This was my first exeperiance renting a car and I must say I enjoyed it more then I didnt. They are actually pretty reasonable as far as stipulations and definately affordable if you just need something to get from point A to point B and back. I ordered an economy vehicle it was kinda small even though they said it would be a Ford fiesta or similar I ended up with a Haundi Accent and it was pretty small being that Im 511 and on the thick side but it was practical being that I was traveling alone. So be aware that the bigger the vehicle the more it will cost you, and dont think you have options when it comes to colors either lol (some guy was in there when I returned the vehicle and he canceled his order because he didnt want a white car...they gave him back his money). I reserved the vehicle from the 2nd of the month til the 5th. On the 4th I realized I needed an extra day I called requested and it was given. They saved me by providing a service I truly needed without all the drama. I will be forever grateful. Thanks budget!
I waited an hour and a half in line for my 11am reservation. The worst part is after a half hour the only clerk there decided to take a break with 8 people in line then when it was finally my turn I not only did not get the car I reserved I was told to complain and maybe that way things would change
Just got home from renting a car here and I believe the guy at the counters name was Steven. Had to write a review because he was really helpful and friendly and our whole experience was pretty easy considering how crazy the city has been with rental cars lately. Truly appreciated this mans help.
I have rented many cars from Budget I have enjoyed the FASTBREAK experience. I rented a car from the airport in West Palm Beach, Florida on 7/22/2016. I dont remember which day during my rental this happened, but came home at night got up the next morning came out of my house and realized I had a flat tire. I called Budget and they said they would send out Roadside Assistance. The response time was excellent, the guy they sent was very nice they plugged the tire for $10.00. I was happy to pay it no problem, but imagine my surprise when I received a bill from Budget stating I owed them Emergency Roadside Cost $62.17 and then an Administrative Cost of $25.00. I guess the Administrative Cost was because they made a phone call to get me the Roadside Assistance. So being a long time customer I called Budget about this error. The Supervisor who answered said the charges were correct he told me this would have been mentioned when they asked me about insurance. I told him I do turn down the insurance, but no one ever mentioned Roadside Assistance, but really this isnt my car Im renting I expect it to be in good shape when I get it. How do I know the nail didnt get in the car tire when they had it. Honestly if you had just sent me the Emergency Roadside bill I probably would have let it go, but the Administrative Cost on top of that well that just pissed me off. On top of that I said this to the supervisor asking him if he would meet me half way he said NO. So I said o.k. then I say no and I have blocked Budge from taking anything from my account take me to court for the $87.17 I owe and you have now lost a very active client. Would love to see if I get a response to this message.
The the pick up and return process were the worse I have ever experienced in renting a car ever. This includes budget and others. The office is completely out dated (the printer is dot matrix!!!!!). The attendant on pick up was lazy, barely could speak loud and clear, and it took more than a hour in line to get a car. People in the line were complaining and take pictures of the line and phone to file a complain.Beside that, the door office is close to a garbage deposit. The smell is terrible. Im also going to complaint to sanitary authorities. The car I was given had a few damage on painting, looked like a really old car. It was the first time I saw a car like this one in Budget. In return, a had a taxi waiting for me, my wife and bags, and the attendant lady was to busy talking with some friends/family who were there. The security guy, knowing that I was there with a taxi waiting, came to ask her to release my return form but it was worthless.I am very disappointed with this experience at budget on 87th St in Manhattan.
I had technical issues with a brand new car, had to call road side assistance once and had the car not starting three times in 24 hours. When delivering the car, I spent 25 mins getting it started, resulting in that I did not dare to stop at the gas station but went directly to the budget shop and asked the return guy or someone to go with me to the gas station (6 blocks away) to get the fuel. He said he would check in the car and sent me to the office to complain. Once in the office, a highly unprofessional employee said that he could do nothing, and adding 79.20$ for half a gas tank as a penalty. I then said that I would take the car to the gas station, but he said I would have to accept the penalty because the car was already checked in. I asked how he would compensate that I had to call roadside assistance and waiting for an hour pluss subsequently to other attempts stuck with the car in 24 hrs, but he arrogantly applied that it was my own fault. usually, I meet professional employees here as this is just a few blocks away from my Manhattan home, but this employee was clearly not well trained. The shop turned around the car immediately and I was able to let the female driver know the issues I had - with my three kids in the back seat
Awful experience with people impossible to understand with...I had my reservation for 12:00 and arrived at 09/00 because of my holiday schedule.I understand that the car is not ready so I have to pay an extra USD 240 to pick up a car earlier (I am not happy, but I understand)THen I explained that I have to return the car at 12:00 like initially planified because I would be 100 miles away from Mahnattan. They said that we will see at the return and maybe they would accept.I did my best to arrive as soon as possible (10:30 due to the traffic) but they harged me another USD 261 for this!!!!My initial rental was USD 490 for 5 days.I finally paid USD 1000 because of those 4,5 hours of Penalties!!!!That is unacceptable and the people who were there didnt care at all.Never budget rental anymore for me!
Rented a car at 1pm with a return time of 9pm. When trying to return the car I was sent away and told I could return it at 40-something on the West side. I asked to bring it back in the morning instead and was told thats fine. Then got charged a late fee, even though the rental period is 24 hours and I returned the car within that period, and the location would not allow me to return it at the agreed time.
It’s my second time renting a car from Budget. First time I rented from the JFK branch. It’s so nice service. Everything the customer representative did to me was very professional. On August 10 Friday, I rented from Manhattan Eastside Uptown, 300E 87 Street(2nd Ave 87th) at around 9pm. And I was renting for 1 day(24 hours). Next day the same time.I bought all insurance(while coverages both for car and passengers), I also paid for the tolls and unlimited mileage. So the total price came up to $ 238.00. I inspected the car throughly and did record the fuel level, so that I can return the car with same amount of fuel.Next day I returned the car same time I rented out and there the young guy inspected the car the told me everything was good. But without telling me anything, he charged extra $ 81.41 on my credit card. When I ask him about it, he says he don’t know and ask me to talk to the office. Then I went to the office and ask the 2 ladies for what you he charged for the extra $81.41, she told me it’s coz I exceed the mileage for a day. But I argued showing them the contract paper which says I have unlimited mileage for a day. Then after after checking the computer for some time, she came up saying I made the car dirty, so it’s for the cleaning service. That’s so weired and I told them let’s go and check the car. But she refused and aging she went on computer for few minutes and came to me, that time she said it’s for the gas. She says I didn’t refuel the car. I explained to her, I know the company policy and I know I have to return the car with same level of fuel. Then she started yelling at me with senseless talk, ‘ it’s out policy ’.I just don’t want to augue her and ask her if I can talk to the manager. SHe yelled me back again ‘ I don’t know’.SO I thought it better to Dispute my charges and called my bank and explained everything to him. The bank advised to wait for sometime and everything will be sort out.And now again today they charged me $ 12.45 on my CC. I called my the bank and Dispute the charges, and found it’s charged for the tolls. Even though I paid for the their EZpass and they told me that I don’t have to pay for the tolls. I even asked them where about the EZ pass and they said it’s with the license plate. It’s not like before that I see the EZ pass on the car.I’m very sure it happened because I’m not that aggressive and being polite to them. They are taking the advantages. So I’m waiting to see what the bank can do.BECAREFUL GUYS, make sure you don’t leave your CC information with them after you rented out the car. They keep on charging.
I returned a car, and a few days later started another rental at this office in Manhattan. The staff are unfriendly and nonchalant. The navigation system I paid for did not work. (Why not check it before handing it over?) It was replaced but no one said that it would not fit the charging wire. I had to return an hour later to change the charger. No apology. No pleasantness, etc.My car was to be returned in Philadelphia. The address given was not helpful and Budgets own navigation system sent me to the wrong carpark. Why couldnt the address include the fact that the Budget office was in a Sheraton hotel? Why not give proper car return instructions including where and how to park? it meant that the procedure of returning the car took over an hour.
Horrible experience with this place when returning my rental after 10 days.I rented the car at EWR and returned it here.Staff was not only unfriendly, but was shouting at me and my 70year old mother.Several requests to speak with the manager were denied. Also neither of the two employees would give me their name. They dont wear name tags neither. After the second bad experience with a Downton budget location, this was the last time renting with that company. The behaviour the budget employees showed was not only unprofessional, it was humiliating towards their customer which they disrespected at any time.I am disgusted by how we were treated.Customer support answered once after filling out the survey and then never responded again.Just unbelievable.I would NOT rent a car here. Not even return one anymore.
I did not rent a vehicle yet continued to get notifications for rental and survey link thanking me for my rental even after I called to ask why I would be getting these when I didnt even rent and got told dont worry about it there no credit card on file so youll be OK.
I booked and prepaid for a car and paid an additional price to get a GPS device in the car. This pre-booking went through and charged me, however when I arrived to pick up the car I was told there was no GPS device with the car and I would need to take a pad device if I wanted navigation. As I needed to have navigation, I agreed, and it seems I was then charged the full price for the pad without any credit for the amount already paid for a GPS device. Additionally, the pad would not provide any navigation information in New York and was intermittent in GPS connections as I drove around. In general, even though the car itself was fine, the pre-booking (even though apparently such GPS devices are unavailable in the car) and subsequent changes and charges have left me rather annoyed.
I live in the neighborhood and rent from here once a month for the past year or two. Ive finally dumped this awful company for Enterprise which is also in the neighborhood.Every time I go to pick up a car at Budget it is 30 minutes late. Even if Im the first one in line at 7am when they open there is still a 30-45 minute delay in getting my car. This last time I tried calling them 2 days in advance to make sure the car is on time so Im not late to my meetings outside Boston that I drive up for.No one picked up the phone for two days and I called them, literally, no exaggeration, over 20 times. Each time it rings for a while then transfers you to national where they say there is literally nothing they can do.I even spoke with two managers at Budget at national and they said there is no way to get in touch with the 87th street office except to keep calling (obviously not working) or just walk over there.Talk about worthless.Im a busy executive, I do not have time to just go walk over there.
Friendly, albeit really really slow, service. Dont know thats the fault of the employees though, people who rent cars apparently cant seem to wrap their head around the rental process, forcing the poor employees to repeatedly explain what it means to have to bring a car back with a full tank of gas. An extra employee or two behind the desk would do a lot to expedite the process.
Terrible front desk service, roadside service, phone service. This is my story: (1) I called Budget roadside service on Sunday 11:10am, reporting one tire had low pressure. I was in a state forest park in PA. They told me they would get a new rental car to me by 1:30pm. But it turned out Budget let me waited for 8.5 hours in that forest! They got the new rental car to me at 7:40pm! Every time when I called Budget during that 8.5 hours, they told me oh, its getting there, maybe another hour. But those were all lies. at 4pm when I called the truck driver where are you, he said he is still 1 hour away. At 5pm, I called him again, he said Sorry but I put wrong address to my GPS, so I am another 2 hours away! It was completely dark by 5pm and I was in a state forest park without restaurant. I asked the driver where are you. He refused to tell me and told me he was another 1 hour away. But later on it turned out he took another 2.5 hours to drive to me. I got my rental car at 7:40pm, 8.5 hours after I called Budget Roadside service. (2) Something even worse was the attitude: I called Budget at 300 E 87th Street, Manhattan, at 6pm, told the lady that I couldnt return the car to Manhattan by 7pm because of this 8.5-hour delay, I want to make sure no extra charge for another day. She was rude and said if after 11pm then you need to return the car to LGA airport in Queens, otherwise there will be extra charge. I said this is due to Budget delay, not my fault. She said Maam what do you want me to tell you? I said this is our rule, nothing I can do, why you kept explaining to me? She didnt even say sorry for this Budgets 8.5-hour delay. I asked if I return the car to LGA in Queens, how can I get back to Manhattan, She said not my business, maybe you can take train.... (3) Later on I was lucky to drive back to NYC by 11pm on Sunday, returning the car to Budget at 300 E 87 St, Manhattan. During the whole time I was at that Budget office, the lady representative was talking to her cellphone, only using her eyeball rolling and finger pointing to communicate with me. This was terrible customer service!
I gave them 4 stars ONLY for the customer service. Hugh is very professionally and answers all my questions.Their cars tend to be dirty on the inside and there is always some sort of issue that flashes on the car. Not really worth the price for NY. In Buffalo NY never have no issues at all
I was charged 425$ for 2 insurances that I DID NOT Accept!! They called me a liar to my face telling me and my wife that we IN FACT DID accept these charges. We had to come home from vacation because of these charges!! I will be contacting local news outlets to get this story out to keep others from getting there money taken. All of this was during a pandemic in NYC!!!
I was overcharged 100 dollars on my rental. I was treated like I was a effort for the customer service representative. I had to return twice to have the overcharges removed. Not helpful or friendly staff. When I complained about the overcharges I was treated like the representative was doing me a favor. I am still calling to the company to remove toll charges from the same car that others are currently renting and using.
Worst customer service...is a convenient location if you are in Manhattan and you are willing to pay a little extra...but the girl at the front desk is pretty bad with the customer service...you cant have a front desk person that doesnt know how to deal with customers...and also has an attitude of knowing it all but knowing nothing! Please train this people or get them(or get) a job not facing people...or move the location further up in the city...so we can understand better the kind of service offered
I usually dread renting cars in Manhattan.....until I found Budget on 87th Street. The car selection is excellent and the big draw for me is the staff. Everyone Ive encountered there is professional, friendly and they actually want to help you. Their Customer Service is top notch. Its such a pleasure to rent from this location and I highly recommend them. P.S. I only wish we could rent by the hour - - maybe Budget will get on board with that for us here in the city.
Would give 0 stars if I could. Was double-charged $300 for a rental they would not even let me pick up because they dont accept security deposits on debit cards, only credit cards. I spent 2 hours on the phone with the worst customer service reps I have ever spoken to and ended up missing a wedding due to their utter incompetence. Do yourself a favor and rent from ANY other car rental service.
Its great that its still on the Upper East Side, since they had to move from Lexington Ave, but it looks like during the move, they lost a few employees. The place is always crowded. It was crowded at pick up, and it was crowded at dropoff. Having cheaper rates than the other car rental dies that. Its not the employees fault. Maybe adding 1 or 2 more employees during g the weekend would help. The employees that were there were very courteous and apologetic during our encounter. If they add more help, they will get 5 stars.
Worst car rental location Ive been to: incompetent staff, releasing uncleaned cars, refusing to accommodate any routine client request, and consistently 15-30 min waits (Im FastBreak).Too bad, as its a convenient UES location. Until Budget does something about it, do yourselves a favor and for $1-2 more a day use Budgets sister company 3 blocks north.
Worst customer service ever, did not get a refund for a cancelled rental for over a week. When I called Budget after 7 days, they informed me that the refund was not even processed and it would take another 3-5 business days. Lots of rental companies to choose from in Manhattan. Will definitely avoid this one.
Unfortunately I love Budget but this location is ALWAYS understaffed with very long wait times. I wait a minimum of 45 minutes when I pick up a rental-- today 1.5 hrs in line. I am a fastbreak member too. They never staff properly and this is a consistent problem so I cannot use them again. I wish they would staff properly. Theyre losing so much business.
Sorry to say this . . .Dishonest employees at this location. Try to use another one. I had better treatment at Avis on W. 76th. My first dealing at 300 E. 87th was in 2015. It had worked out well because uh, I was dealing with the garage manager at the Budget desk manager who was helpful and respectful. I have had better experiences with Budget in other cities, But Budget at 300 East 87th needs to be completely overhauled. The rank and file employees are as bad as anyone can get.
It is not that hard to rent a car in your company, even if you want to travel and drop the car in a different city, which I did before. The only issue I found is that last time I rent a car, August 29, 2018, in Manhattan East side 300 E 87th St, NYC 10128 , the car has an incredible strong smoke smell. I am not a smoker or drug consumer, but I knew the smell was weed smell. I had to travel with my baby and my wife from NYC to Rochester. I did not realize the strong smell until we turned on the A/C when we were on the road. So, we suffer all the way back home the smell that of course, I tried to remove in the first gas station without any success. I hope you can be more careful when you clean a car or before giving the car for rent.
Place is run by my fellow New Yorkers. They are extremely professional and helpful. They constantly make suggestions to improve the rental experience and process. Everyone there knows what they are doing. Its the employees who make a competitive difference I rent here for business and pleasure. I have been using Budget for 15 years. Always a good experience. The location is very convenient - though a bit small. But hey this is New York.
I was not originally a budget customer, but have become a loyal one in the past several months. This 87th Street location has ensured my first and every experience has been a pleasure. If there is ever a concern, they have been able to quickly and professionally deal with the problem effectively. I would recommend this location and its staff to my friends and family.
I live right above this place and it is a nightmare. Most times I walk by I hear a customer arguing with the employees about a lost car, lost reservation, an excessive wait to get or park their car, or damage to their car. They also have a habit of blocking traffic getting cars out which leads to gridlock and constant beeping outside my window. They need to do better.
Unfortunately, a bad customer service experience at this location, topped by customer service associate named Jessica, tainted what otherwise was a reasnably good road trip from NYC to Boston. The good news is that this event created a learning opportunity. As I take you through the story and the lessons we can take away from it, think about how this may apply to you bringing your business to this and other budget car rental locations. So as I was arranging to pick up my car rental, I specifically asked for an e-Zpass. ...and sure enough the associate handling my reservation assured me that car i was about to get comes pre-equipped with it (as noted, i was about to be given a brand new car that has an electronic tag, i.e. pay as you go new kind of thing, and so without questioning any further I went with the story). Well, two tolls later, and after noticing no pass red lights behind me, I realized that my rental actually had no e-Zpass in it. So, in hopes to straighten things out and inqure about it, i tried calling the locations phone number listed on the invoice numerous times. Each and every time my call would get redirected to an automated help desk, and eventually to a customer service associate located in India (or some place rather) who pretty much had no idea what an e-Zpass was, let alone how to help me.So, upon return of car, I explained my story to Ms.Jessica, who happend to be running the afternoon shift, and so i noted to her that as a service provider, the onus is on Budget and its representatives to make sure that its rented equipment is delivered as promissed, including e-Zpass and other gadgets, ...and if not then they are putting its customers in a though position. So I asked that she looks into this and help me resolve it.In response Ms. Jessica said, well for starters, that the number listed on the invoices given to customers doesnt actually work, but rather its used to fool you when you dial it to tell you that office represtatives are busy assisting other clients; and that there is actually another active phone line that will get you through, but not everyone gets access to that phone number. Well nice to know that for the next time, eh ?So I told Ms. Jessica that simple sorry wont do it, as I was led to belive that I was getting a car equipped with e-Zpass, and that the onus is on Budget to honor it, and fix this mess (including any finess that might follow). She responded that I make a call to a third party handling e-Zpass and bring it up to their attention...., basically to call and try to fix their mistake.I asked to speak to her manager, to which she basically responded there is no manager. I kept insnsisting to speek to someone who could help me resolve this, until she finally got visibly mad, and roudly responded to try this girls name nothing good luck with it,... eventually turning around and asking me to leave.
Great prompt service. Did not have a problem when coming to this location on a Saturday. The staff was very friendly cant complaint. I got a very nice free upgrade since the ran out of cars. I agree with some of the reviewers, the place is small but easy to get in and out. Just for a FYI, the location is in the middle of the block, between 2nd Ave./1st Ave. on 87th Street. When you google the direction it takes you to the previous location by 3rd Ave which is the wrong one. Overall, I am satisfied with my rental experience.
Terrible place to rent a car. Never has car class on the reservation and refuses to give a comparable car without an upgrade charge. Does not honor the online rate since its a new york metro location. Not sure why that isnt already reflected in the reservation that clearly states BUDGET 87TH STREET NEW YORK NEW YORK. $215 reservation turned into $485 charge. Nothing I could do - either pay more than twice as much or no rental.
Always have a problem with this location...today wasnt any different. Came early to pick up a car and sales staff were completely unhelpful and made me wait. Then received a car without blue tooth and they wouldnt change it for me when I said its a necessity. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!
An annoying employee, Marcello S., works there and he threatened to call the police and yelled at me to go out of the store just because I was upset and I said that I had a change on the reservation and I didn’t want to pay an extra charge! Insane, bad look for the company!
I dont give them 0 🌟 because theres no choice...terrible service ....they charged you for service you didnt ask for ...also i returned the car with more gas ...and they charged me for it ....after i dispute that and got my money back ,al of the suddenly i owed for toll money ..wich i never went through any tolls so they took the money back from my account the very next day ive gotten my refund for the gas...crooks sacm artist ..thief never again i will rent from them
Only problem was when making the REZ, agent insisted your office on 87th and Lexington (NYC) was on that corner, he and she both told me this, and it was wrong info, office on 87th, but between 1st and 2nd avenues, two people had it wrong, need to update files, thanx, ken szymanski

2022-06-13Getting back to traveling after 2 years of COVID I have been renting more and more cars for leisure. I’ve overall had good experiences throughout the rental companies - some obviously better then others. My experience with budget however has been very strange. In the past 6 months I’ve took two one day rentals from you. The booking experience is great, the online check-in does not work but the time at the desk is never long and in both cases I’ve had great interactions with the personnel (best in class in hertz with the automated pickup where you can choose the car). I do have to say in both cases the return was perfect, no questions asked and took no time at all! So all in all the rental experience was great! The downfall is with the cars! First time I received a midsize sedan (ford Taurus), nice car, the outside was clean but the inside was filthy, with stick surfaces a little bit everywhere, trash under the seats and even a pair of sunglasses. For a car that was supposed to be disinfected for COVID, it did not seem that way. Also the driving experience was very bad, the car had a pretty big vibration, it seems like it had hit a pothole or a curb at one point in its life and also had a severe pull tords one side while going straight.Second time I was supposed to get a midsize suv and went for an upgrade once I arrived at the rental location (fairly inexpensive). The car was a new (6000 mile) Range Rover velar, a very nice car. The car again was very clean on the outside but once again can with strange sticky gue on the screens and other surfaces and also all the compartments were filthy, with old candie, trash… something I would not expect for a luxury suv. Also to not the car came with an empty tank of gas, it is not the best thing to have to fill up the car first thing once you pull out of the rental location. All in all I wanted you to know in both cases the overall experience was good but was tarnished by the cleanliness and quality of the cars.

2022-04-07Be very cautious! The service is actually much more expensive than what you see on your rental receipt. If you ever rent a car here, they’ll charge your credit card repeatedly for rentals that you never booked. Customer service is not intelligent/ patient enough to figure it out and simply put you on blacklist. Now I finally understand that nothing is more expensive than cheap service. I feel shame for them. This is the service quality of last century.I hope budget understand that customers deserve to be treated in a more decent manner and the importance of integrity in business.

2022-06-20This location is very rude and hostile, attacking us as customers for having a legitimate complaint. We had several issues about the condition of the luxury car we rented, that had many issues that were not disclosed in advance. We called the Budget main number and were directed to this location to swap it out because it was the only one that was opened past 3pm.When we arrived, the security seemed annoyed from the get-go. We spoke calmly and straight to the point. Their security and employee that cleans cars were quick to take offense, and verbally attacked us, quickly accelerating what could have been a civil discussion about how we could amend the situation to a character assassination. We were taken aback. They gave us no option to resolve our issue, claiming they have no cars available, and gave misinformation that another location was opened that was actually not. He took it personally and got mad that we showed them on our phone’s Google information that that location was indeed not opened. “Oh you don’t believe me, l?!?” he yelled. They launched into a tirade projecting their attitude upon us. We had to drive away with the problematic car with no recourse. It was a shockingly rude experience. We have been long time customers, but will never rent from Budget again, and we advise that you don’t either. They treat you like garbage, and their cars are also treated like garbage.

2022-07-01I have been to literally hundreds of rental car offices for my job. This one achieves to consistently be the worst. Today, I showed up an hour early and they made me wait until the pickup time on the dot, EVEN THOUGH they had cars available, just to prove a point (or God knows that the rationale was). I’m not disillusioned enough to believe that rental car companies strive for customer service excellence as their primary business objective, but the extent to which they go out of their way to be rude and mean is quite astonishing.

2022-02-24Terrible customers service; paid in advance for a full sized car. they gave me a small tin can suv. They asked for a review so I made clear my issues. Two days later they responded with the below email. What garbage. Avoid this location like the plagueDear Joseph,Thank you for responding to our survey regarding your recent rental at our Budget location at East 87th street. I am very sorry that you were disappointed with the vehicle you received. Delighting customers is our top priority. We clearly did not succeed in your case, and we are determined to exceed your expectations at your next rental. Our records show that you were provided with an Intermediate SUV. Please know that our policy is to provide you with the next available car class above your reserved car class if we do not have your car in stock. We hope that you will soon give us another chance to provide a vehicle that will help create an excellent experience for you at Budget.Sincerely,Michael MBudget, NYC Operations Manager

2022-03-28I made a reservation at 12pm for 4pm for the same day. Not even an hour later, had to cancel the reservation. They wanted to charge me $150 because the cancelation was less then 24 hr notice. But the reservation only existed for 1 hour. They need better policies and support staff thats willing to help the client. I asked if theres anyone else I could speak to, and I just had the policy repeated to me instead.

2022-04-07Credit card fraud!! Do not use your card here!!I usually choose to pick up car here because it’s convenient. But after my last pick up here,at 87th Street, I kept receiving bank notifications saying that I am checking in rental car from this location and using etoll while I am in another city, thousands of miles away. I reported to Budget but they did nothing. I have to stop my credit card. Don’t do business here if you don’t want to be in trouble!!And when I called again, said I want to report a fraud, they just hang up on me! Five times!!! Is that a customer service??

2022-06-06Service was rude and not welcoming. The guy at the desk did not answer my questions and was annoyed when asked about rental details. Car was quite dirty and scratched inside and outside. Car was parked in a driveway when handed over and no staff present to check the car together. Was rushed by other drivers to get out. Bad customer service.

2022-06-27One person behind the desk on a very busy day. Waited 1 hour in a hot garage to get my car.On return, I was charged for more than a half tank of gas when in fact it was not quite full at the time of the rental.

2022-05-14Okay the people at Budget were great but could not Precheck in and Waited in line in a lot of pain due to nerve damage. Car navigation was horrible and was antiquidated. All rental cars should have Apple Car Play no excuses.
