Buffalo Exchange in other cities:
4 years ago buffalo exchange was my dream place to find interesting & unique, often vintage, designer clothes for great prices as a broke college student….now it just feels like a fast fashion factory warehouse. The racks are soooo lifeless and full of ugly Shein and urban outfitters clothes. Freshman FIT kids working there are equally lifeless with no personalities and ZERO fashion knowledge but act snobby as if they know what they’re doing lol. Hate to be a person leaving a bad review online but going through the racks here now is truly so depressing!!!
Someone recommended to bring my RL shoes thereI could see they where different but the whole store had things that look for one type of customer and weekend wear , they got excited when they saw sweatshirts and T-shirts non labels the better did not even like Lulumon basic new leggings??? Waste of time I would not donate I can do that at Goodwill which has a wider customer base and understands labels
I was there a few days ago and it seems like there are a lot of new people really big line and the one cashier ana kept being called by the others to help them kind of felt bad that she was being pulled into so many different directions but she handled it graciously. Think she needed that recognition.
Pink hair manager and brunette with the bangs were super rude and helped 0% were lazy and didn’t want to check the system to help with a previous order . Almost as if they didn’t want to be there . And could care less about customer satisfaction. So sad I used to always come here . Passing the word to my friends so I and them never support companies that don’t support the community who gave them business in the first place
Employees are really nice, really long wait, Great customer service, Although not as good as the other ones in the NY selection wise. Other locations you can walk around while they go through your stuff. Here you have to stay near them there or either sit near the area. I need more Free range. I Just didnt understand one thing, I understand appointments go first but if an appointment is there early and youve been there before them I feel like the walk-in should go first. There was a person who came for their 4: 40pm early appointment and was only 4:10 and I was there for an hour and they were seen first. Why wouldnt they just be taking during their actual appointment time? It happened with multiple people
I recently moved to new york and was reluctant to go to buffalo exchange because of all of the other fashion resellers in the city, but this location is absolutely incredible! the buyers really must have foresight into fashion trends, and it helps so much when looking for the right way to stand out. so many of the employees are stylish and helpful but i remember james specifically being so knowledgeable about history of designers, convincing me to go with one skirt over another and totally completing my look— james really has me coming back to this location over and over because he always understands the assignment….
My favorite store always feel very welcome. The staffs are warm and welcoming. If the price could be 10-25% less that will greatly help. Hope you could consider that because the other thrift store one block over will have similar idea for 40-50%. Your store cleanliness and staff are great!
This was my experience today, I boutique black jacket 🧥 when will wear ist broken, I live in Nj I tried to tell them that it was broken and I had not noticed, I returned it for another black jacket, I did not put it to use. Then the manager said that it was not possible because the return is 5 days, but still I am explaining our ID that I live in NJ, and the jacket was torn, I just wanted to change it for a black one in good condition, in conclusion I did not leave them. I matter, who the hell bought a used jacket and also fix it again does not make sense. So I left them the jacket, I hope they scam someone else to cheat another customer, if you are going to sell something used but at least in good considitions, my goodness do not deceive people used and torn clothes and return for another item. I didnt even ask for money, just to exchange it for another one, but not red, that they take the money. That is called robbery, I left everything there. Swindle!
If you bring clothes there without an appointment, the staff would rather do recycling than see you, so do make an appointment. I went on the weekend without appt, waited for hour then gave up left. They resell everything for so cheap anyway, I should have just gone to the goodwill.
Will not even give a star if I can, worst experience ever, packed a huge lightly worn brand clothes to sell, booked an appointment, but the train stuck, called the store to ask if I can still come, they told me to come anyways, but when I got there, they didn’t even see me, absolutely ridiculous and stupid!!! Very unprofessional staff there, wouldn’t never step a foot in there, don’t recommend anyone go there to sell, better donate all that clothes to goodwill or housing works as good deeds
I’ve done very well selling clothing here. They are picky, so I always try and bring clothing that’s in good condition, still in style, and from good brands. I follow those guidelines and they typically buy most if not all of what I bring (I like to bring 1-2 shopping bags of nicely folded clothes per trip). Shopping here I have also found some nice items for a good price. You can find everything from shoes to jackets here.
Convenient location, friendly staff. Brought down a small collection of barely worn or brand-new clothes (J Crew, Gap, Brass, Everlane, etc) in excellent condition and in some cases, with the tags still on. Items appropriate for the season. They took maybe 1-2 random items out of a collection likely worth $100s for a grand total of $6.50. Quality of clothing brought in far better than what they were selling on the racks. They do have a bin for extra clothing and said that it goes to a local shelter, which I hope is the truth. I would have happily donated all clothing to my local Salvation Army for no money but with more confidence it would go to those in need. Probably not worth your subway or cab fare to get here.
I sell clothes here sometimes and its a really good place to go to do that. They are kind of picky about the clothes they accept, they have to be really stylish and in really good condition. As a customer, going there to buy stuff, I really like him stuff is organized. Its a big space by Manhattan standards do they always have a lot of stuff and because they are picky about what they buy, the clothes are always in really good condition and very stylish.I go in about once a week to sell and browse, its a great thing to do if youre into fashion and thrifting. Recommend!
Tried to sell for the first time and it was a waste. I called the day before my appointment to see what they were accepting. The guy who answered said they are looking for everything except business casual pieces because of covid. Makes sense. Hauled 3 bags down there. The buyer was extremely friendly but explained that they are only looking for flowy type pieces, things with ruffles, things that are casual but could be dressed up as needed etc. I wish I knew that before wasting money on a cab there and back. I had heels that have never been worn, sandals that have never been worn, a pair of Marc Jacob heels that were in amazing condition. Not wanted. They did however take one coach purse, that in my opinion, was in bad shape and gave me $6 for it. They passed on a Michael Kors bag that has never been used. Its real, has the cardboard authentication still in there and kept in the dust bag. They offered to take my stuff so I didnt have to carry it back but Im cynical. I dont want them selling pieces that they didnt pay for. Not saying they do that but I would rather give stuff to my cleaning lady and know its appreciated.
One of my favorite go-to thrift shops! Nice selection of clothing. Very hip and trendy stuff. The price range is pretty decent and mostly cheap. Some stuff can be on the pricey side but they have sales. The employees were extremely friendly and nice. The place is quite small so it can get kinda crowded. I went on a late Friday afternoon and it was pretty crowded. Also, bring your own bags!!
On a Sunday I stopped in at Buffalo 26th street NYC. I asked what they needed. Mens dress shirts was the answer. I brought 25 Mens Designer shirts in the next day. The Buyer then said they were full on Mens Shirts and gave me $1 Dollar for new condition designer shirts with MSRP of $70 each. . I again asked the what else they needed. The Buyer then said Mens Jeans and shoes. So I brought them designer Jeans and shoes on Weds.. Buyer said they were full on Jeans and Shoes and gave me $13 for a large quantity of Jeans and shoes with a MSRP of roughly $2,000 Dollars. I then asked the buyer about what my several pairs of $500 sunglasses would get me. He said they dont take Cartier, Prada, D&G and all the brands I mentioned & said Tom Ford glasses were good. This place sucks. Better off avoiding them.
Nice employees and amazing selection, very fair pricing. They have everything from vintage to current designer to everyday great clothes. Accessories and jewelry are awesome. They also sell great new merchandise - unique well-selected styles at reasonable prices. Sellers are friendly and knowledgeable. Love this place and all BEs in NY!
My only complaint about this location is that the buyers are always so young “Kids”. I have brought in some really good pieces and they never know what or who the designer is. So I just bring my clothes to Tokyo 7 or INA. Other than that I’ve found some really good designers here. Just have to really look!
The atmosphere is great. Lots of things to shop for. Great place to get some nice, affordable clothing. I tried bringing in some of my clothing to see if any were eligible for money back, was turned down due to “high volume.”Completely understandable. Just don’t make me sit in the area for an half an hour just to tell me that. Website says they’re looking for summer clothing but be specific on what you want.Recommended advice: call the store in advance to see what exactly they’re looking for. Come early to avoid a big line!
Its a great location to buy clothes, but for selling its absolutely horrific. Expect to wait. Usually a solid hour and then they rush through your buy. Ive sold here MANY times, and depending on the buyer, they will sometimes find any reason to turn away even your new with tags designer clothing. Dont bother selling here unless you have a great deal of patience and resilience.
I find this place a little difficult to work with. I com here about twice a year and everyone is really friendly and helpful but the lines are always super long. A lot of your time goes in waiting and you have to wait with your bags, cannot leave them in line so they can be checked in your absence. This place is definitely well stocked and has interesting items for purchase but with the plethora of online options to sell clothes, they may be selling themselves short if they dont update the way in which they acquire clothing. When they dont take stuff, you can walk around the corner and drop off at goodwill. They used to have a service but they dont any longer
I have never sold here, but as for buying, they have a wide range of clothing, and you may have to spend a bit of time there, but you will probably always find at least one item that you like. The staff is very friendly. Dont be deterred by some of the negative reviews. It is just because many people bring in clothes that are probably other too generic, or that buffalo exchange does not want, therefore making the sellers angry because the staff do not accept their clothes for selling. The one criticism is that some of their clothes are a bit more expensive than other thrift/buy sell, trade places, but its still not that bad. You can find many shirts, bottoms etc. between 7-20 dollars.
Test run at BE, the moment they spot an item they like, you are asked for your ID and phone number to create an account for cashing out/ store credit. On this first visit, I opted for $9 instead of the $30 in-store credit bc I promised myself not to fill my closet with more stuff 😔.I was most impressed with the selection of mens clothes, I was only expecting womens stuff! At the moment, I was informed they are looking for larger/ plus size pieces in womens, also mens + womens light jackets, including good/ like-new condition leather jackets (although, Ill hold off on your quality skins...maybe get a better deal online bidding).
An absolute waste of time. I came in to sell a couple large bags of clothes about 15 minutes after the store opened because according to Google this was a less busy time to visit. I wasn’t bringing in any fancy, expensive brands but I had some lightly used, recent, and in season (are these not the standard requests from consignment stores??!) American Eagle and Zara items (including sweaters and jackets for fall) and they only took 2 items. I hauled my bags over to this store and waited in line for 2 hours to receive a grand total of 7 bucks (thanks, Buffalo Exchange, for funding exactly 6% of my monthly metro card. Or maybe I’ll go crazy and buy a chapstick and a cup of coffee). They brand themselves as more accessible than other consignment stores but that’s incredibly deceiving. If they’re not going to take good quality, in season items from sellers, they need to make the selling process less excruciating or give sellers a larger cut of the profits. Selling was wayyy too much effort for the payout that I ended up receiving. And also hone in more on the brands they actually do decide to collect - it was infuriating to see Zara pieces throughout the store, yet my Zara pieces werent accepted. Never coming here again.
Terrible experience. I took 3 bags of shoes and clothing with me. My stuff are generally kept in a very good condition, but obviously none of my stuff is in good condition or seasonal to the buyer I dealt with. By all the stuff, I mean a few new pairs of pants that were rarely worn before, recently bought, and are still in perfect condition. Worst of all, I was just going to leave my stuff there instead of taking extra effort to find another place. Then the buyer told me that their bin was full, thus I had to take all my stuff with me to the Goodwill store in another block for donation. Wont recommend going there.
This place is fine to shop if you want to dig around for a good deal. However, selling here has become more and more difficult. The last few times I have gone in, they have been extremely picky. I bring good brands and items that are in good condition. No snags or stains, basically lightly worn. I went in at the beginning of the cold season with a jacket and was told to bring it back later in the season. I did this and was then told hey had too many of that style. I brought in an Anthropologie coat in great condition- it’s looks exactly the same as when I bought it, but apparently it was too worn. I can’t understand what on earth they will buy. I understand that is the game you play when selling your used clothing, but I waited for over an hour in line to get $6 or $11 in store credit. THEN you must wait in another line just to get your money or credit. I asked if the credit could just be held on my account so I did not need to wait in another long line and I could just use it another time I felt like shopping. I was told this was impossible because it might “fall off” my account somehow, even though everything is associated with your phone number and ID. I will most like not sell here anymore. It has become too much of a hassle for no pay out.
We didnt buy anything here because we were rather tired and only stopped in after walking by it on our way home. The clothes are organized by type and size (I believe), but after that its kind of a free for all. I think if you spent a good while here you could definitely find something good. Youll also see people waiting in queue to what seemed to me like trying to sell their clothes.
Selling and not buying:I came here with a big bag of clothes (some Banana Republic). Some things were lightly worn and all were in decent condition. I waited on the line for God knows how long and they bought absolutely nothing. I guess my clothes werent trendy enough or something ¯_(ツ)_/¯.But since I did make the trip into the city, I still looked through what they had in the store. I found one Top Shop laser cut leather look top that I really liked but it was one size too small so I left with nothing. I guess this place is a hit or miss.
I stopped into Buffalo Exchange on an adventure to find the perfect piece to complete my outfit for Valentines Day and, well, I found way more than I expected! They have some of the best second hand clothes: name brands, popular and up-to-date selection, even cool nick-knacks that would make great gifts. The prices are awesome too. Where else am I going to find a Patagonia jacket for $15?!! Crazy.... :-D

I bought cute earrings here for $9.50 which i think is an okay price (i think its new). But almost every item here is ridiculously priced. Too expensive. I even found flats from target (a new day brand) which is priced originally $14.99 but theyre selling it for $17 lmao
Ill swing by here every now and then. Sometimes youll find good stuff. Their prices used to be pretty good but now its getting pretty expensive for some reason the past few months. Their prices have doubled...$10 and up for t-shirts, $20 and up for sweaters and $40 and up for jackets...at that point you might as well buy new stuff unless you find something that you gotta have. Bring your own bag because they dont give you one.
Good luck getting checked out if there is anything resembling busy. One set of registers with three people behind it asked if I was checking out then promptly directed me to the registers nearest the door where one customer occupied one chatty clerk while the other clerk was slowly changing a trash bag and when asked if she was open she said she was busy and pointed me to the end of the long line behind chatty which had grown even longer. I counted at least 10 slots for registers and 11 employees with estimating 40 patrons and one, count em yes one register for checkout being manned by the chattiest of all.
Be careful how much you pay for their stuff! I bought a couple of clothes, under which a dress that was a little expensive for 2nd hand, but I liked it so I bought it anyways and assumed it must have been even more expensive in the original stores. When I was home, I googled the brand to find out that I had paid the original price. This is not what I expect to pay for worn clothes!!
Just a suggestion to the Buffalo Exchange Buyers Staff. I have sold items to this store before in the past, patiently waited on long lines to conduct my transaction to only feel as if I am not appreciated or welcomed. I have felt as if I’m a bother for bringing in my items, I have no complaints if the items are not suitable, that’s totally up to your discretion but! Smile, be approachable, show me that you appreciate me as I appreciate Buffalo Exchange. Let’s work together but I can’t take the un-pleasant faces, Smile!!
I would really recommend this store to anyone who ask. I would go to this store now and then but I would think they hold many great things and the people who work there also so friendly it makes. It even better experience. The prices are great , you really cant go wrong from the range of selection of styles the have. If your thinking about going to buffalo exchange I would tell you too go for it and experience it first hand. Also if your not planning on buying a bag from the store make sure to bring our own. The store doesnt hand out plastic bags so you will have to buy one of there custom bags.
One of the best hidden NY disappointment...avoid at any cost...to sell, buy or for getting a credit...waiting more than 30 minutes to offer almost new 6 pcs of clothing from medium price range stores...asked first what I prefer cash or credit? chose the first one...and that was it...no item accepted...during 30 minutes went through the quite spacious store...could not find a single decent piece of clothing or else (women and men sections), tacky on the streets discarded Chinese jewlery for $10 pc(!), worn down clothing and shoes, priced higher than in any store such as Marshalls or else. My feeling is that only people without any taste for quality and knowledge of the existence of other stores would go to this place and buy something there...if it sounds too good to sell or buy there, then...do not waste your time, any thrift shop is cheaper, with better quality and prices and buying there you will be supporting charities...this Buffalo is not this type, neither Road exchange one block from there...butindeed the best store when looking for any vintage quality is at E 286 3rd av (22 and 23 st). Seen all 3 stores last Friday, not paid or otherwise inspired for offering this honest review. tt
Not a bad store, they have a bigger selection for men clothing then the east village one. The clothing are neat and clean. Staffs are nice and friendly. Good look girls working there. Overall good but not great prices are a little over priced for my preference but if I find something great Ill hop on it.
The worst store to sell. Go and sell in beacon closet. The black girl has no clue about fashion, as well as the white girl. I show them design clothes and they were not interested. Beacon closet has way better buyers. They need to get rid of those buyers and get a new stuff!
Buffalo Exchange is my absolute favorite store. Especially, the 26th Street location. Whenever Im in need of an emergency high end outfit, I pull up and discover a brand new top or bottom, perfect for the occasion, each and every time.Im also a shoe lover and tend to overdo it. But I have no worries. I can easily sell them at Buffalo Exchange.A loyal, satisfied customer encoraging you to stop by.Youre welcome. :-)
I was born to frequent thrift stores but Ive been consistently disappointed by this store. The clothing is only moderate in quality and looks like a round up of the weirdest styles that no one really wants. Most things are stretched out, half of the clothing is strewn about off the hangers, and the other half is mixed up in all the wrong spots within the stores. You have to jockey with other customers to get to the racks and then you start to wonder, why am I here? Everything is overpriced for a thrift store especially considering quality. You can get decent new clothing for similar prices. Skip this store. Its a waste of time.
Seller tips: what they buy depends largely on whats already in their inventory, try to go early in the season. They give you 50% sale value in store credit or 30% in cash. You have to wait in line (there is a seating area). Honestly its pretty great, you just have to be prepared.
The person who took care of me was very kind! but they don’t really buy your clothes.. what they keep is valued very little.. I went with a couple bags of good clothes.. I’ve gave in “donation” the 90 percent of it cause not accepted.. bringing them back home was only an ulterior effort.. if ur goal is make a little money selling ur clothes, don’t go here. Sell ur clothes online..
I sold my clothes there. I took a 100 dollar nike sweater i brought there hoping id get something. They look at the retail value they said its worth only 28 bucks!!! Then if u want the cash they take 33% from that. So i got bck 9.75 for a 100 dollar hoodie. If you have clothes you really need to get rid off make sure u take at least 20 items with you! Youll at least get back 20 bucks! Which is sad but thats how it works if u want some fast cash! And the line is always long
Ever since I found this place I’ve been a regular shopper… I stop there literally every other day to kill time on my lunch break. I’ve spent countless amounts of money in this location and some of the employees are to the point of recognizing me and waving hi. That’s the good part. Now the bad:Yesterday I entered at the end of my break to browse, not expecting to find anything, but I did. I was kind of in a rush to return to work so I picked up a jacket that ended up being too big for me. I took it back after work less than 3 hours later and they refused to refund my money for the jacket, OR even give me store credit which I probably would’ve used in the next few minutes. The cashier explained that since the item was 50% of that it could not be returned. Okay… not a huge deal, thought that I could be given a break. Oh well.Well, the cashier brought the manager over to double check. This girl was absolutely terrible. She put on this show pretending to give it serious consideration because I had been there literally hours before. She then in the most sarcastically sympathetic tone stated, no… we just… cannot take this item back. It was obvious she knew that without her display of fake consideration. And her tone was as if she was trying to kick me when I was down. I don’t care girl, it was $8.Cool, thanks. I’ll never go back to this location again.
Just finished my first sales transaction with this place a few hours ago. Here are some tips based on my experience:-Dress nicely: I was more or less dressed down in jeans & a video game character hoodie (as I was en route to New York Comic Con). Everyone else that was ahead of me or waiting to sale their lightly used clothing had this hip, trendy, vibe about them. Needless to say, I felt terribly underdressed. Not to mention, very geeky.-Try and bring things that you think will sell well. I simply went into my closet & pulled out things that I hadnt ever worn or couldnt wear because they wouldnt fit me. A lot of what I brought wasnt picked by the sales person, and I only ended up selling about 4 items for about $17.25.I maybe have ended up selling nothing if not for a pair of new boots the sales person over looked.-Dont give the sales person an attitude. I tried to be as nice as I could be considering this was my first time trying this. Judging from the bags/suitcases full of stuff I saw people bring to sell, I bet the folks working there dont have much patience for smart asses/rude folk. If they dont like your stuff, simply nod it off, or try back later with a different person.-Take store credit/donate. Store credit is always valued higher than cash, and if you happen to see something you like on display while waiting to sell, it might work out.If you dont feel like you got the best value for your clothing but dont mind parting with it, they do have a donation bin. Or you could simply donate to the Goodwill store one street over.
Selling to them is very hard and a waste of time. I bring in almost BRAND NEW name brand name clothes and they dont accept them, even when its the right season. They tell me, were looking for clothes that are in stores right now and blah blah blah. Im just standing there like I literally just got this from the mall? They make no sense. But when you look around they have the most unstylish, no brand clothing. And I agree with others reviews, they can be over priced so its better to buy brand new anyway.
Come here if you looove wasting your time! Waited in line for 2 hours with a suitcase full of clothes; this chick with an attitude problem took 2 minutes going through my stuff (she spent the first minute and a half chatting with coworker); sent everything back to me. So then I took my stuff to Crossroads Trading which is only a block away, and they accepted almost everything! Like I said, if you’re a seller don’t bother come to this pretentious place... you’ll walk out with a bad mood.
Never go here. i have wasted time sitting there once a big spider was walking on desk people had big sloppy old bags from bad places. the sellers turn there nose up. they keep it a secret if inventory is full. so you haul your bags and pay car fare but you dont know they are not buying. simply disgusting but the atittude is worse.
DO NOT RECOMMEND this place!!! Brought almost new clothes, winter Jetlag jacket, diesel pants, miss sixty jeans, leather bag. The lady with attitude told me that they have lots of those clothes. She looked at them and didnt even fold them, just piled them up and told me to pack my back. Had to fold my clothes again. I knew she wont take any, because she didnt take any clothes from 2 customers before me. She was rude and condescending, and she didnt look like she knows fashion at all. I looked around and saw gap, h&m and other less expensive brands. Some of the clothes were ripped, stained and in a bad shape. Oh well, lost me as a customer! I walked half a block to Crossroad Trading, they took the jacket and a new blouse with a tag $98. They Didnt pay much, but I guess its better than holding on clothes you dont wear. If you want to sell privately I had a good luck with an app Wallapop, sold another jacket for $50.
So I had been meaning to go to this place for awhile now, and yesterday I finally did, and wow! I found a pair of Madewell jean for $23.50 (originally $128) and American Apparel ones for $22 (originally $98). Now I had heard from friends and others that you should dress trendy when going to this one but to be honest, I dont think you HAVE to. I think there are just alot of trendy looking people there due to it being by FIT. Most of the employees were insanely nice, friendly, and easy to talk to with the exception of one, who gave me an attitude when I wanted to go with my mom into the dressing room to see how her picks looked on her, and then continued to repeat all the reasons why, the whole time she was in there. Aside from that, Ill totally go back.
They should rename this place the Low Baller Exchange! This place sucks. Ive been at least 3 times in the past two years....and they are constant low ballers to all Sellers. They quoted me $8 for shoes had never been worn from Nordstrom! Last year I brought a beautiful new Valentino Roma dress to possibly sale....worth well over 5 grand.....they quoted me under $50. Each time I laughed at how much my time was wasted here. So skip the Low Baller Exchange, youll get way more money on eBay, Craigslist or even Poshmark for your nicer items.
I came in with Marc Jacobs boots, Christian Dior Blazer, Coach Jacket, Coach belt, J Brand Jeans, Celine sacks, Burberry skirt amongst many other great articles of clothes.I guess it depends on which person you get to buy your clothes. Looking through their racks it looks like they only want used, work, pilled and dirty items. If you are looking to sell high end items, DO NOT GO HERE.I was unimpressed by their service and selection.
This is my favorite location. i dont know if its because, hello?!!! FASHION DISTRICT is right around the corner, but the buyers are on point. every single time i am there to just browse, i end up wanting something so badly... that i come back after work to see if its still there and i BUY IT. the staff here is nice and i appreciate the beautiful YSL boots i see in the glass display and secretly cry inside because im too practical to buy them. no, its because im a baller on a budget. ha!
Very rude staff I spoke to the store manager and they basically told me after I told them that I was homeless and I was looking for a place to sell my expensive clothes that I had purchased previously they told me that it is not their problem and I would still have to make a unnecessary trip not knowing if that they would be able to take my shirt are not not giving me answers answers and showing no compassion For anything I had mentioned this is completely ridiculous that a place like this should have that kind of customer service if I was working there everybody would be doubt with This the same way and there would be no different treatment
I feel like Buffalo exchange’s business model is not working anymore. There was a time where you would go in with a bag of clothes and they would take almost everything as long as it was in good condition. Now the stores are full of long lines of sellers, they only take big name brands or rare vintage. And prices are too high for used clothing. Better luck selling on poshmark or ebay
Had the most horrific experience. Came with two bags of DVF, citizen jeans, free people sweaters, 2 pairs of new boots..and they said its not their style. Wondering what they do take! Will NEVER return..and the merchandise was not impressive either..things looked worn and dirty. The cashiers were EXTREMELY rude as well..they have 3 people critiquing your items..it was the WORST! Thankfully, I found another shop and they took ALL my items.
Really disappointed. 80 or 90% of the clothing is brand new stuff made out of cheap synthetics. Yes, the stuff has some funky style to it, but it is still el cheapo fabric — thin and stiff, spun plastic kind of stuff. I expected a mix of vintage and secondhand ugly-cool, 5-30 years old and made out of cotton and silk and wool. Got this instead. Gah.
Ive become a regular here and it just keeps getting better. The staff is lovely, intelligent, and even if they dont take my admittedly shoddy crap from college days, they are always helpful with buying and trading. This store saves my life every time I need a weird costume or character piece or if Im ever bored and in the area...
I loveeee treasure hunting here. For buying: If you dig you can find really great scores. Or you can pay for a cheap off brand t-shirt. For selling: dont be that person who shows up with 2 suitcases. They arent going to take all of it an you hold up the line. Dont try to sell winter clothing in spring or visa versa. Not going to happen.
I love going here! If youre into second hand treasure hunting for clothes, shoes, bags and accessories this is the spot!!! Treasure hinting here includes having to dig around a bit but its all part of the fun and when you find something thats perfect you literally feel victorious. Love it!
I promise every time I come in this store I end up turning around and going to lesser known Crossroads a block east! Most Buffalo employees have an knack for being courtesy, super helpful, & colorful to say the least. However, their managers often are rude, arrogant little A**holes.. My last experience there the manager (Ned, Nvek or something) at the time jumped on his selling register just to hope on take one customer in a line of 4 people and then went throughout the store fixing menial things (straightening shoes, fixing small displays). It was when an older guy came and struck a conversation with me when I noted Karma...I attempted in every way to get the young mans attention and he continued to walk with his nose stuck in the air the entire time. Primping little shoes and stuff, so I gave up and tuned back into the conversation of the man.. At this point I just let him ramble, because the gentlemen was speaking about stealing a pair of shoes that he just removed the censor from. I continued my effort in trying to reach him, at this point I felt as if he thought I was hounding him to take my sell so he furthered his distance. Me being a man of effort only when it counts decided against making it a priority and treated this establishment exactly how the management treated me, so I made them aware as I was finally called... I ended up going to Crossroads lmao
They tend to not take what shoppers of the store would desire to shop for ! Meaning when individuals come to sell their items , the employees dont have the greatest knowledge of what the store needs for shoppers ! LEARN TO BE MORE OPEN.. Many of the items in store had the group of us straight out of work , like 😏😲! Wth.. We visit Manhattan and Brooklyn locations!
I have a bias for buying used clothes (1 degree removed from the horrible sweat shops in asia). The clothes were on point, but just to note the prices are not that much cheaper than a regular store; however, all the brands and styles are right there. Plus, there was this short lady dressed in the spirit of Diana Vreeland working the checkout line, 👌very on point.
The workers need to learn some manners. Theyre not Saks or Barneys, get over your high horse! Ive visited vintage stores all over the world and must say, European stores are a wonderfullly pleasant experience. Terrible customer service and extremely disappointing at Buffalo Exchange
Dear Jesus! where do I start? I checked the East Village and Chelsea stores after reading about Buffalo Exchange concept....but this does not really translate into the stores. Customer service sucks! I was browsing but its all crap. Then I saw a girl trying to sell her burberry rainboots and a DVF wrap dress and they would not take it. Really??? Thought this was supposed to be better than your regular thrift store. The wanna-be buyer was nice and seemed to like them..but the manager who looked like she knows a hell lot more about food than fashion...was just simply rude and condescendingly stated that they sell straight and wide silhouhettes....really, are you buying for yourself??? Even Donna Karan has stated that wrap dresses flatter all figures!!! Ohhh, someone help this group..theyre hopeless!
Compared to the Buffalo Exchange stores in Portland, OR this W. 26th location is a dump! Stained, dirty and worn items. Kept thinking who would buy this, and why. Zero customer service. Not worth the time it took to find the place. The two other similar resale stores, one down the street, and the other in Soho, are far superior in selection and cleanliness.
This place have gotten more like a ripoff than a fair exchange, they have people buying clothes without a clue to fashion and they buy your clothes for cheap and then get rich off your items u are better selling on eBay you will get more for your money dont trust this business at all..... stay away if u are smart 😡😩
Picky buyers. The biggest buffalo exchange out of all 6 in NYC. If you want to sell go to the one on Brooklyn(Williamsburg). They buy more from you because this location is not a busy one. Thats just what I noticed. This Chelsea location & east village has many sellers and the line can be really long, at all days of the week. Busy for shoppers and more variety of stuff that sells fast.
Strange place where you can sell and buy used clothing. I went once with a friend to check it our and had a seat, low and behold the seats werent for tired and bored dads it was the section for people selling clothing lol boy was I embarrassed oh well. Looks like a cool place to buy or sell used clothing check it out. I find it hard how they place a value on used clothing
On my way out the man standing at the door insisted on touching my shoulder and calling me sweetie which was incredibly uncomfortable. Im only giving a negative review because of that because i have men who are strangers do that a lot when Im in public and it is not how one should be speaking to potential customers. I do not like to be touched or called pet names by people I dont know, and it was totally unnecessary for him to touch me at all.
They a joke ! Never again ! I went there with brands like D&G jeans and G Star jeans etc she told me we cant take all of them because they not in style , mind you they had so much old and horrible looking stuff ! So she took 4 pairs and gave me 31 dollars mind u they was very expensive when i bought them I was so mad I just left with my clothes ! They are ridiculous ! Never again !
Customer service is fair, friendly employees with great fashion senseUnfortunately if you are looking to sell clothes, you may end up waiting on a super long line, as store is not always fully staffedOften, clothes are in the wrong section and there are long lines to buy or sellOverall, an ok place to shop/sell
IM MAD THAT I EVEN HAVE TO GIVE THEM ONE STAR! THEY DONT DESERVE EVEN ONE!!! DO NOT GO HERE!! NEVER GO HERE!!! BIG HUGE WASTE OF TIME!!!!! THEY DONT COMPENSATE YOU PROPERLY AND THEY DONT TAKE WHAT THEY SAY THEY WILL. HAD THE WORST EXPERIENCE AND WILL NEVER GO BACK! I REPEAT DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!
DO NOT SELL OR BUY HERE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!! THE STAFF IS INCREDIBLY RUDE AND UPPITY, ESPECIALLY A MALE MANAGER THAT WAS PRESENT. HE WAS ONE OF THE MOST FLAMBOYANT TACKIEST GAYS WITH A SENSE OF MISGUIDED FASHION THAT EVEN A HOMELESS WOULD REFUSE AS A LAST RESORT. I CAME WITH A LOT OF HIGH END DESIGNER ITEMS & SAID I WAS SELLING THEM TO PAY OFF MY TUITION. IM 20 BTW. AFTER SEVERELY LOWBALLING ME, THE TACKY GAY MANAGER TURNED TO ME & SAID MAYBE NEXT TIME YOU CAN ACTUALLY BUY THEM WITH YOUR OWN MONEY! CLEARLY ASSUMING I GOT THEM ILLEGALLY, MOST LIKELY BY STEALING. I WAS SO SHOCKED I DIDNT SAY ANYTHING. HE FORCED A YELLOW SMILE AND SAID YOU CAN LEAVE NOW! IF I COULD BURN THE WHOLE PLACE WITH HIM IN IT I GLADLY WOULD!!! THAT WAS ONE OF THE MOST CONDESCENDING HURTFUL THINGS ANYONE HAS EVER SAID TO ME. I WOULDNT SHOP OR SELL HERE AGAIN IF IT WAS A REQUIREMENT TO GET INTO HEAVEN. JUST UTTERLY DESPICABLE!!!!!

2022-02-19They have a two-piece part as well, which you wont find in other stores. They have a lot of nice clothes for smaller sizes as well. The selection of items you bring in is very strict though.

2022-02-16I’ve shopped in this location several times and always received great service but Anadina made it that much better. I came in on Valentine’s Day asking about trench coats and her eagerness made me so much more excited to shop. I’ll definitely be coming in again, such a ball of light.

2022-06-14This spot never lets me down. They consistently have a great selection of merchandise, and only a few times have I had to wait longer than a minute for a dressing room. One experience stands out to me: I had just found a lovely dress, and as I was carrying it through a store another customer with a BALLPOINT PEN STICKING OUT OF THEIR BAG pushed past me. It caught on the dress sleeve and stained it. When I asked the cash register employee for some Purell to see if I could release the stain, they let me try onsite and also offered me a small discount for the damage. After some careful laundering, that dress is now good as new and a favorite piece in my secondhand wardrobe. Super grateful for that employees kindness -- and a wise business move, as it convinced me back for many a return visit!

2022-03-12They closed both Buffalo Exchanges in DC so I like to visit while Im in NYC, especially since I still have store credit. I always manage to find something I like here. The clothing they have is in good condition and on trend. The people are friendly and the line moves quickly.

2022-07-01If I can give this place a zero I would there was such disgust from the lady that was at the counter to examine my products and I am a newcomer to donating and she told me not only were my items not really wanted in the store but she didn’t think it fit the style of the store I do not recommend ever giving clothes to the store or coming here in general. This was the worst passive aggressive experience I have ever had in retail

2022-02-08Very confused lol. The sales associates/ buyers were perfectly nice, but they passed on buying my Aritzia, free people, Anthropologie, UO, Coach, etc items and only bought one dress from me that I bought originally from a flea market for $3 and just thought I’d throw in there… ended up making a profit on that super cheap piece and not being able to sell the rest. They definitely just don’t have the most experienced buyers so if you have nicer/trendier stuff try somewhere else!

2022-05-30These people are a bunch of thieves, I never felt so robbed in my life. Dont come here to sell your things they will rob you blind. The better place to go to sell is 2nd street they are actually fair and will give you back a descent amount of money for your things. I actually wanted to go back to buffalo exchange and get my stuff back and bring it to 2nd street because i felt buffalo exchange robbed me and 2nd street gave me way more money for my stuff. If u go to 26th st go straight to 2nd street they will treat you right, forget about buffalo exchange you will get low balled. Youve been warned.

2022-02-15Overall good experience, it’s usually busy but employees are friendly. I can’t remember her name but the cashier with long hair has contagious energy, super genuine. I want to sell but read some bad reviews so I might just stick to shopping.

2021-11-29Only good if you shop. If you sell, you’re gonna have a bad time. They will only choose a few items, so even if you haul your things from another borough, you will probably leave with most of them. I don’t trust their donation bin, they’re not transparent about the charities, and I will not put my brand new items in for them to probably sell when I turn my back. Buffalo exchange, please be more open about who you donate to, and make selling a more positive experience. I came in for my 4:40 pm selling appointment and had to wait until 5:15, listening to another disgruntled shopper throw a fit. Not a good experience.
