I got the artichoke salad and it was fine - tasted good but salty, and it was nothing that exciting, just artichoke, some greens, and heavy dressing. Overall I am disappointed that the vegetarian options lack protein (except for the beyond burger, which as a vegetarian I am not looking to eat something that tastes like meat). The service was polite and it’s nice they have so much outdoor seating, but I would not return until they add better vegetarian protein options.
Put our name on the list and then they forgot about us until we said something.Took about 10 minutes for a waitress to come and get our drink order.Menu does not correctly list whats in the dish (said kale but it was spinach) the drinks we ordered came midway through our meal.Food was good but could have been a better experience.
If youre craving for an Eggslut-style breakfast sandwich, Paulettes egg sandwich is a great alternative in Brooklyn. The croissant is crispy and fresh, while the eggs are moist and juicy. I devoured this in a few minutes. The rest of the lunch menu seems good as well, only reason this doesnt get a full 5 stars is that the service was kinda cranky (I get the feeling they were understaffed).
Beautiful location, friendly service, and tasty food. Only tiff was spending $22+ for a mid-rare burger and it coming out well done. Would have mentioned it to my server but never got a chance since he was running around a bit. Ill be back to try some other items, hopefully, execution is better next time around.
I go back and forth on this spot. On one hand, the food is ~good enough~, and its in a lovely location on the park. You get essentially what youd expect when you order, especially if youre big into French cuisine and are used to the real thing. Nothing special, nothing terrible.However.... The prices. They are just offensive for what you get. I think, perhaps, the head chef is nuts about watching their food costs, because they consistently skimp, and it shows up in the quality of the food and experience. This goes beyond the usual this is an NYC restaurant and every penny counts territory - its way worse. For example, one of us ordered a burger. It was $4 to add cheese, and $4 to add bacon, resulting in a $30 burger.Emilys is a 10 minute cab ride away, and theyve been praised as making the best burger in NYC. Their burger is also $30 - and its worth it. Or Cafe Lafayette in Soho, a glitzy, expensive spot thats over the top and owned by a major restaurant group, dealing with soho rents and putting out a great burger themselves.... Their burger is $30 - and its worth it.This burger has a cheap foamy bun that looks nice but tastes like they picked it up at a Kroger in New Jersey. The meat itself was great, and the carmelized onions *would* have been a great addition, if there had been more than 3 slivers. The aioli was homemade, which was nice. All in all, it was not worth $30.Or the duck a lorange - probably the best dish here. Great execution, perfectly cooked, nice nice. But unfortunately, this dish comes out close to $40. If youre interested in good French food, you could for example go instead to Frenchette, which is in Tribeca and dealing with Tribeca rent, where the average price of their meat mains is also $40. Its far superior food, much more interesting, and their prices make sense for what you get.Lastly, lets get to the desserts. Profiteroles - wow! Great dish. And this one is worth the money. Probably the only thing on the menu that isnt offensively overpriced. But the creme brulee.... Well my friends. It seemed priced normally at first. But then it came out, and it was *half* filled. They bring it out with a small blueberry garnish, and our table was laughing because the creme brulee was literally the exact height of a blueberry. Same standard creme brulee everyone else serves, but about a half-filled portion. There was barely anything there! So. While Paulette is in a lovely location, and their food is fine, but not special, unless youre the type who barfs money for a living, this place will feel like an enormous ripoff, especially considering your dollars go so much further at superior places.
It’s late me eating in France.Cafe Paulette is one of my favorite restaurants. The food is always consistent and always good. FromThe oysters, to the French onion soup to the salads, all are a great way to start your meal. The service is top notch and the vibe is hip and happening. For your main try the trout almandine, a steak frites, a salmon burger or the mussels! The fries are a wow!Love this place.
Very good, affordable French food right across from Fort Greene Park. Had the duck and mussels and both were full of flavor. Escargot was delicious as well. The only reason why I give 4 instead of 5 stars is how the duck seemed to be missing half of the dish - should have come with some carb be it potatoes or rice.
Very nice French cafe in this neighborhood. We love the vibes and music. It reminds us when we were in Paris :) Great location as well, we can see the fall foliage of Fort Greene Park right thru the windows. We had croissant, French onion soup and Croque Monsieur. We love them all! One the best French onion I ever had. The service was very nice and friendly. Overall 5 stars from us. Of course, we will come back :) Wish them all the best thru the Covid19 too!
This place is quaint and cozy, especially in the summer when you can sit on the sidewalk when it’s warm drinking wine with a view of the park. The food is delicious and only complimented by really great coffee and an impressive wine list!An added bonus for me is that there are delicious paleo options for lunch and dinner. They cook with olive oil and can sub out butter if requested. For brunch, the chakchouka and steak and eggs are scrumptious and even whole 30 compliant. There are even more paleo options for dinner, including the steak and chicken.Feel lucky to have this neighborhood spot that’s warm and yummy!
Cafe Paulette is amazing! They have the best burger ever — so juicy and delicious! I add Gruyère and get it medium rare. It’s solid and tastes perfect every time. Definitely of my favorite restaurants in Fort Greene. They also have a great wine selection and a cozy chic ambiance.
Dont ask me why, but I felt immediately comfortable in that restaurant. The place by itself is super nice, some people would say its quite small when its actually really cozy. The dishes are amazing, I still remember the taste of the duck that I ate there: delicious! On the top of that, the staff is very friendly!
Pretty solid French in Ft. Greene. We recently had brunch here and it was a good experience. The mint iced tea was delicious! Eggs Benedict and Croque Madame were tasty but would have preferred baguette for the Croque. The country bread was too thick for my taste although the egg was cooked to perfection. Service was friendly and reasonably attentive. Overall, would definitely return.
Was looking for a cool, spot with a cozy outdoor dinning scene in brooklyn and Cafe Paulette provided that in spades. The hostess greeted us warmly and informed us that a table outside should be ready soon in the area we wanted. it was packed at this french bistro yet the hostess found time to continously update us on our table status. They even offered us a glass of wine while we waited patiently. Other employees greeted us in passing as well observing us waiting calmly.Once our table was ready we were immediately seated. The vibe was quite reminiscent of being at a restaurant in Paris. Apparently this location attracts a lot of french speaking people which was nice to see. The ambiance of the outdoor seating area was very cute with seating arrangements seemingly following CDC guidelines around covid safe protocols. The area was partially enclosed in with a partial translucent roof to shield patrons from rain. it was adequately adorned with barnyard hanging string lights to give that French riviera vibe. The menu was adequately populated with choices written in french with english descriptions. I love when i go to a restaurant and the menu is one page with a few choices. Usually means each item is uniquely prepared and probably tastes fantastic. Cafe Paulette did not disappoint. We ordered the oysters to start. Nicoice salad was devine. For dinner we got the salmon and the clams with fries. Everything came out in adequate time and tasted fantastic. They dont rush you out like some restaurants do now and they checked on us often through out each course.Cant wait to come back here again
Had such an incredible dinner here! French onion soup was delicious. The lettuce for the salade verte was incredible. Steak frites was very good, as was the wine, and we really loved the crème brûlée and tarte tatin for dessert. There was heated outdoor seating, which we appreciated — even with it being 29° right now we were ok!
Came for brunch today and ordered the ratatouille shakshuka. The food was well-flavored but left me hungry even after adding merguez sausage (the sausage came in teeny-tiny little pieces) and asking for extra bread. I found it a bit cheap and tasteless to charge extra for an additional small slice of toast when the dish didnt come with enough bread in the first place, and frankly just bizarre coming from a French restaurant. Ill go for a coffee next door, but I dont think eating here is really worth it.
The food was good, but they do not allow substitutions. We sat for dinner at 8:30. The evening was pleasant for mid December, but cool and became progressively colder. As we were finishing dinner, (there were 4 other tables also eating outside), the outdoor heaters went off. When I asked the manager (perhaps owner) about it, he said that the switch in the basement must have been tripped. He did not offer to turn them back on. Certainly the heaters use lots of electricity and are likely costly to operate, but I am not in a rush to return to the restaurant.
I came here on a date recently and the food and atmosphere were lovely. We were able to sit outside since the weather was nice but with how intense the heaters were, I think dining outside in the winter time will still be comfortable. I got the Croque-Monsieur and he got the Oeufs Norvegiens. For our sides, we both got salad. All of the food was delicious and was served very quickly, especially with how busy they were. I’m not typically one to love French food but this was great and I will be back.
Amazing atmosphere. Online reservations said they were full so we asked for the bar. By the time we finished our dinners they still had 4 empty tables so that was a bit annoying.Salad Nicoise was truly terrible. It wasnt even authentic but the biggest problem was that the tuna tasted very old. Seared several days before, cut that night is what I would guess, and such thin slices.Steak was amazing. Asparagus special was even better.Be aware their beers are $8 for a half glass. We spent almost more on beer than on food without realizing that 2 pints worth would be $40.Pretty underwhelming but I do know some of the food is superb, and since the atmosphere is so nice too Id give it another try.
Food was excellent! The desserts especially were stellar. The whole staff is engaged in their service, and I particularly found the back of house staff to be very friendly and attentive.Their fries were fantastic. All of the food was great, as previously mentioned, but I would specifically go back for the fries.
The food was really delicious and the service fantastic. I got the muscles in white wine and coconut. My friend got the duck. Both were served at the perfect temperature and the red wine and rosé complimented the meals well. I gave only four stars for the out door dining tables being too close together and REALLY SMALL/WOBBLY. There was barely any room for both our entrees and drinks and the table itself wasnt sturdy.
Cafe Paulette is a popular neighborhood eatery in Fort Greene which justifies that popularity with good food and friendly service. I had a beautifully plated Croque Madame (which is a Croque Monsieur with a sunnyside egg on top) along with some tea. While very tasty, it could have been slightly more flavored. Prices are reasonable for the neighborhood and its location across the street from Fort Greene Park is picturesque. On weekends and evenings the cafe is packed inside and out, so its best to make a reservation or visit for a weekday brunch.
She told us itd be a 10 minute wait - in fact, it was slightly over 15 mins. Seems we arrived just in time to be seated because 10 mins after we sat looking through the menu, the line was down the block!?! Popular place for Brunch! Seems to be perpetually busy on Sundays. I like the aesthetic of the place and attempted french-girl low key fashion vibe of the female servers and the hostess. The food was satisfactory but nothing to wow you in flavor - it seemed most tables ordered one of the four burgers on the menu; Trés American! The food arrived fairly fast despite the busyness of the place. Implying that the kitchen staff is working hard to keep the Orders in order!
I was excited for brunch here today. The food was good enough, but gosh the service was so disappointing. The hostess wanted us to wait for her outside which is understandable obviously. But she actually said “ Get out and wait there” !!!!!! Then there was our server. They’re NOT NICE here. I am never going back and I don’t recommend it.
Despite my personal lack of culture and style, Petite Paulette is delightful for a bit of caffeine and pastry. If youre feeling saucy for a glass of vin, its a beautiful thing on a nice fuzzy afternoon to look into the park and watch people looking at their phones or children squalling in the park across the street. The people who work here are friendly and by god they have hot sauce if you ask for it, which I did. Thank you Paulette, wherever you are.
Absolutely adore Cafe Paulette. They have never disappointed, it almost feels a bit like a Manhattan in Brooklyn right next to the park. I’ve come here for brunch, but also lunch where the burgers are amazing. I always take friends here because it’s guaranteed a great vibe.In my opinion I think it’s way more chic than many of the other establishments up the street which are a bit more heavily trafficked.
One of my favorite spots in Fort Greene, since I moved to Brooklyn in the pre-pandemic world. If you’re vegetarian, go for the burger which is served with a nice salad and crispy fries, or go for the Florentine eggs. Also, get the fresh orange juice. The place is usually busy, so arrive early.
I have been living in downtown Brooklyn for over 25 years. Today, the Cafe Paulette hostess turned me and my friend away because we wanted to order drinks and appetizers. There were several tables on the sidewalk available. It was in-between lunch and the dinner crowd. I never thought a neighborhood restaurant could be so snobby during a pandemic. Never going back.
Food was good but it literaly took over 20 min to even ask us for drinks let alone food. About 52 minutes in we got our food, this is after having a reservation or they were doing us a solid by seating us... so its not like they forgot we were there... something was wierd about this SF like hipster joint. And for as much as the food costs, no substitutes...for anything... is rediculus. The guy behind the counter was nice and seemed like he cared but the rest just gave two sheits...
This place was great and I will definitely be coming back! They had lovely outdoor seating with a view of Fort Greene Park and the service was spectacular. We had 6 people and they were more than happy to accommodate us, even though it was close to closing. Would highly recommend the ouef (eggs) benedict!
Went for brunch on a Sunday. No reservation, but walked up and was seated inside. Ordered omelette du jour which had cherry tomatoes and goat cheese and croque monsieur with an egg added and bacon in the side. Nice large, and delicious, order of bacon. Very good coffee. Ordered tarte tartin for dessert, which was excellent. Would highly recommend a visit. I will be back for more.
Tasty Place, steak frites a delight. But, the cheeseboard was served with apple sauce that had an uncanny resemblance to vomit.. not quite a dollop of delicious quince paste or fig jam.... The Nicoise also had VERY little tuna, I must admit. If you had ordered that $23 plate as a dinner salad, youd leave hungry. Last, the very tasty lemon-herb sorbet had chunks of ice in it, not the texture one wants. I very much enjoy going here, but they could improve some details.
I’ve been staying at Fort Green Brooklyn for a month. I’ve walked past this cafe so often and it always looks warm & inviting.I decided to go in for breakfast this morning. The service was friendly and quick. The coffee was very good. I ordered a scrambled egg sandwich on a croissant with bacon. This was dreadful. The eggs were rubbery and I suspect had been microwaved. The bacon was dry and overcooked. Very disappointing
It was just ok.I came to Brooklyn downtown for a few errands on Sunday morning. While I was looking for a best French restaurant in the area this place was near by where I was.We, (party of two) ordered the “paullete” burgers Food was just ok. My fries come up a bit cold, service was decent.Water tested yummy thoughDo I wanna come back?
The wine list is wonderful, the ambiance is authentic, and the staff is warm, friendly, and are pros.Cafe Paulette has become a family favorite (were there at least once a week)P.S. it would be churlishness ah of me to not recommend their brunch... simply because I dont want to risk never getting a table but, its very good ;-)
Lovely, fun, comfortable French restaurant with impeccable but low-key service and a small, well-curated menu. A recent dinner with friends here was a highlight of my summer. It’s on the edge of the park, too, if the weather is nice and you have a little extra time to enjoy Ft. Greene.
People coming at this restaurant are very nice (some exceptions always, we got you too ,)THANK YOU for joining and supporting Cafe Paulette everyday in these special timesWE appreciate YOUTrying our best to make all of your lives and ours better hereOne day at the timeÀ bientôtSERVER
We arrived at 3:45, it was raining, we walked into what we thought was a host stand only to be rudely pushed back out, the host came up behind us and said she’d be right with us. The person I assume to be the manager stood in the doorway whispering with a waiter, but said nothing to us. Meanwhile, we are standing in the rain for 5 minutes when the ‘manager’ walks out past us to the host who had just sat another table and whispers to her . The host then comes to say that that was her last table, and the kitchen would be closing for an hour. Nowhere does it state that they close at 4pm, and even if that is the case, how absolutely unprofessional for the ‘manager’ to allow us to stand in the rain for 5 minutes because she was too cowardly to tell us that the kitchen was closing. Horribly unprofessional and makes me question why anyone who can’t have common decency would even be in the service & hospitality industry. Would not recommend.
This place is the one I always prefer. I eat in a lot of restaurants but to this place I constantly return again and again. The team is very receptive and the food they place on your table is so fresh and tasty. I would always prefer to have a decent dinner in this place. Highly recommended.
We had an amazing dinner here last night. After we went to the Soul festival in Fort Greene Park, we have decided that we wanted to have a more intimate dinner. The service was impeccable and personalized. The only hiccup was I initially ordered the duck confit dish, and the chef came out minutes after telling our server that he is out of it. It could have been really yummy but nonetheless, I just had the escargot for my entree which was great.
Good food, came very quickly. Complaint is regarding the wait. We got there and were told a 20 minute wait. 40 minutes later we were seated. My real issue is that there was a booth open for the entire duration of our wait and meal. Literally, open for an hour and 40 minutes. Friendly staff throughout the whole experience, but no reason for the lengthy wait.
I will never go back to Cafe Paulette. Yesterday evening I sat at the bar with my companion, an African American woman, who is a regular customer. As we laughed and talked, we were dismissively and rudely told to be quiet by a server. We canceled our food order and left immediately. I returned to explain to the server that his behavior was racist—anyone trained in hospitality knows there is a respectful way to ask guests to lower their voices—and he laughed at me, responded with sarcasm, and defended his treatment of my friend. The server’s behavior expressed that she is less welcome in the space than the white customers who purportedly complained about our happy noise. My friend was made to feel unwelcome in a business she has helped support for over a decade. I will never spend my money there, and neither should you.
We came at 10:30 on Saturday. Almost nothing was available on the menu a part from avocado toast. No juice as they were short staffed. Just cafe and ice tea. They brought us the avocado toast with old crispy untasted bread (was terrible as they probably made it 3 day prior) I have ordered an apricot danish that never came. Very disappointing!
I like to go with friends to this place with my warmest recommendations. I go their often. This recommendation is always successful. The the cooking is flavorable and the crew is very friendly and cooperative. always when we eat in this place we pass a pleasing time. highly recommended.
Lovely small dinner spot. Enjoyed the duck confit (crispy, tasty), the mussels. The waiter brought extra bread for dipping. Sampled a couple of unusual wines (one: orange!) before ordering glasses. Nestled in a corner, so romantic. Wonderful evening. This will be my new go-to spot when attending a BAM event.
Wine selection is really goodStaff is friendly and prepared to give you advicesFood is precise, delightful, fresh and truly frenchAmbiance is just right. The sister restaurant right next door, Crêpes Paulette is great for a bite on the go or a simpler diner experience.
This place was near our hotel and the online menu looked like it would work for all of our party, plus they were on OpenTable--which I always appreciate. We were not disappointed with Cafe Paulette from the excellent Croque Monsieur sandwiches to the powerful coffee that will stimulate the growth of hair on your chest! The only things that keeps this from being a five-star joint is slow service and a slight lack of air conditioning. Our server appeared to be the only one working and we could have used a little more attention and air flow.Bonus: They were shooting scenes for an upcoming episode of Elementary right outside the restaurant.Bottom line: Quaint bistro in a quiet neighborhood of Brooklyn serving up solid food and incredibly strong coffee.
OK, so the food is fine - typical faux-French bistro fare. Prices are OK. But there are two issues, one annoying and the other the reason I wouldnt go back. The first issue is the booths: theyre badly constructed, so when the person at the next table over leans forward or backward, you get shoved around a bit (and vice versa). Ive come across this from time to time (rarely, though) and it always surprises me - cheap diners have gotten it right for decades, so youd think a moderately-priced new build would have spent the time and money to do the same. For these prices, I expect better. The second issue is the larger one. After a nice dinner with friends - somewhere between an hour and a half and two hours - and a lot of food and wine, the water glasses stopped getting refilled and then, a few minutes later, we were asked to leave. We need the table. Really no excuse for this (there was one party waiting for a table). Ive been eating out in NYC for 30 years and its only happened three times (and one of those was at a diner during a lunch rush, which is understandable), which tells me that even restaurateurs know its dumb move.
Delectable place in Fort Greene. Ive seen then expand, taking over the dohave of Carols Daughter. They have tasty selections at reasonable prices and solid service. Definitely check out their brunch hours. Even better is this café right across from Fort Greene Park. If ever in Bk, check this place out.
A favorite and to-the-point delicious french cafe meal. Not so many influencers snapping pics of their cute AF eggs benny, just locals enjoying a solid omelette special (with fries obvs) before a walk in the park. But please, dont go too often because I still want to get a table in a reasonable amount of time.
Very cool vibe and a great nice cafe in Fort Green. The service is outstanding and the food is delicious also. We had drinks, and brunch on a weekend and it was tasty. We had the Chachouka with the merguez, omelette, ans a croque monsieur all i would order again. Right next to Fort Greene park.
As the only black couple in that little French cafe the service had a lot to be desired, the hostess was cordial, the guy who was suppose to serve us was rolling his eyes and barely wanted to tell us the specials, the same specials he so happily told the white couple, seated right next to us. So we decided to leave. Needless to say we will never recommend nor go there again. I wish them well with all the up and coming businesses in the neighborhood, they can afford to lose business!!
Less traffic and more tables makes this small French café a great meeting place or spot to chill when you want a more relaxing coffee option. It’s a little less “grab and go” and more restaurant style, turning into a proper bistro later in the day where you’d opt for a glass of wine after work.
Lovely, light filled spot by day for coffee, lunch, and people watching. Charming, cozy spot for dinner or wine in the evenings. Busyness is congruent with events at BAM, so expect a full house or quiet evening accordingly. No liquor here, but a large wine list; two beers on tap.
If you have children, DO NOT dine here. We used to love Cafe Paulette. But now that were bringing our child, weve been shut out. Today, at about 5:30 pm, we stopped by with a stroller. There were three open booths and several open tables. The host, a guy named Lauren, refused to seat us. No room for the stroller he said. We pointed to the many open tables. Were going to be busy tonight... Theres gonna be a lot of people he said. We then offered to break down our stroller and stow it in the corner. I dont know, maybe he said. That was it. We left Lauren and his empty restaurant. Good-bye Cafe Paulette. Were never coming back.
Paulette is a quaint little french cafe with friendly hosts. This past Saturday I was looking for a spot to sit outside to work on my book and was so happy I stumbled into this little joint. Ive yet to try their eats, but will be back very soon and am inclined to by its chill and cozy atmosphere. The most encouraging aspect of this experience was after I finished my espresso the waitress came out to check up on me. She honed in on my body-language, which mustve said, uh oh, time to go, and immediately said, No, please stay. Relax. Were very French here, and offered me a glass of water. To some, this may seem like a small thing, but in a city where you feel rushed every minute of your life, its nice to know theres a place where you can actually stop and enjoy. If thats very French, then I should visit France very soon.
------Brunch review---------+++- The French press coffee was phenomenal- The juice of the day was orange/beet...It tasted like I was actually eating fresh oranges and beets; Im not the biggest fan of beets- Wife enjoyed the croque monsieur++- Good place to watch French soccer- Hachis Parmentier (Shephards pie) was nice and buttery- The portion was big, I was not hungry again until well into the evening- Easy to find a table around noonon a Sunday

2022-08-14Had a long wait for ordering and food came pretty late. It’s definitely a busy place with a lot of people so expect the slow service. Food was okay and price is Manhattan price. Not sure if I’d come back again. Had better brunch food with cheaper price in the neighborhood before. The plus is it’s easy to book reservation.

2022-07-26Maybe French food isnt for us, but I have definitely had better. The food was well presented and the staff were helpful which was lovely.Unfortunately, we just didnt feel like the second course ( the duck) met our expectations. It was tender but straight up bland.NOW, with that being said, the desert was amazing.

2022-07-06Had a nice little brunch date here and we loved it.The waffle was so good, not too sweet, but just right with the fruit on top. The croque monsieur was also delicious. Everything was just the right amount to fill us up without being too much.Well definitely be coming back for more.

2022-05-12Cute cafe with a cozy interior and a lot of outdoor seating. It’s not closed off so it is definitely exposed to the elements but the outdoor heaters do help.Service was super kind. Prices were very reasonable. Standard brunch fare 🤗We came for brunch and many an eggs Benedict and ratatouille shakshukas were ordered. Shakshuka was a little bit spicy, which I appreciated!

2021-08-04For those who want to take some fancy brunch pictures to make your friends jealous - this is your spot. The food looks and tastes amazing, and there are a lot of good options. If one thing holds this place back slightly itd have to be the seating and vibe of the place. It isnt bad, but it doesnt really match up with the really nice looking food. The outdoor seating did look better though, perhaps next time i will go for that.

2022-01-03I ordered avocado toast which I think had lemon juice. It was a bit too sour for me. The orange juice was freshly squeezed and was really good, although a bit pricy ($8)

2022-06-23Food was incredible. I had the oysters and a mixed cheese and meat board. Also the passion fruit sorbet for dessert was exquisite.

2022-05-04We had a lovely dinner at this French cafe in Brooklyn. It was very busy and we had to make do with a rather makeshift table in one of those footpath structures brought in to cater for pandemic life, but it wasnt too bad. The food was very good indeed and I thought the meals were fairly priced. They were centered around the $30 mark and they were proper meals which came with accompanying dishes, not just a main item on its own. Be warned, however, the wine list is quite expensive so check it out before you order too much.

2022-05-28Had the omelette and latte. Let me tell you, that was one of the best Lattes i’ve ever had. Top 5 for sure. The Omelette? delicious and simple. how it should be.What else do w have to talk about?
