Had a really nice experience with food, service and ambiance at Cafe Sabarsky. The Wiener Schnitzel was really tasty however, even though I am not sure if the security people at the front of the cafe is part of their team but they were extremely rude and not welcoming. It kind of ruined the whole experience for us.
Always one of my favorite places in the neighborhood. Sadly service has deteriorated quite a bit. Inattentive service. Empty water glasses. Servers starting at tablet screens. Disposable napkins instead of cloth. Great atmosphere and menu let down by service. I hope they will correct the guest experience to what it once was.
Despite Covid rules where waiting is more lengthy and seating restricting there is still a class of tourist who is allowed to sit and use the tables way past finishing their meal so they can use the table as a library or work station. The management do not mind that people are in line outside on the street waiting for a table.
Keeping in mind that this is a museum cafe, it is surprisingly good. The menu is fairly well-insulated from domestic influence, and it is executed faithfully. It will not compete with real, standalone restaurants, but it is far better than the majority of museum cafes. The main gripe i have is that service was extremely slow, despite the time being well after the lunch rush and on a weekday.
I used to frequent this place prepandemic. Was excited to finally revisit recently and made a reservation. However, I started feeling sick the day of and tried to reach out to the restaurant directly, but their phone line does not connect me to anyone at the restaurant and there is no way to reach customer support/chat on Resy. They’re refusing to refund the $40 charge and I’m appalled by their audacity to fight the charge. I understand that it is policy, but many would offer a one time courtesy especially if by going to the restaurant l could’ve potentially put other diners and staff at risk. Mind you, my reservation was for a party of 2 and wasn’t during a peak time so I wouldn’t anticipate them to have lost much business because of my same day cancellation.Left a bad taste in my mouth and am disappointed in their customer service orlack thereof.
This cafe has a great location, the decor is very elegant. The cafe is small and there is quite a line up to get in. I would recommend booking a reservation online. The food was good. I was expecting outstanding desserts, but overall they were ok. The presentation was beautifully done. Good service.
Waited 30 mins to be seated after 3pm on a Saturday. Service was nice and they dont rush you. Got the sausage and pretzel. Sausage wasnt appetizing as it was very soft. Not the type of German sausage I was expecting. The dessert however was delicious. Seems like everyone in the cafe ordered a dessert or two. The hot chocolate was ok, didnt think its worth $10.
Had dinner here last night and was a little disappointed. First, it was almost empty at prime time on a Saturday night, so the ambiance was simply not there. The piano man was playing so loudly, I could barely hear my friends at the table. Had the beef goulash with spaetzle which was a big disappointment - would not recommend that dish. My friends said that the schnitzel was ok though. Pinot Noir was average. Sachertorte was good and I’d recommend it. Maybe it’s more of a breakfast/brunch place, rather than a dinner place, honestly.
There’s one reason to come here, and that is for the vibe. It is classic the way Viennese cafes should be if you’ve ever been to the real ones in Central Europe. The location right next to Central Park and inside the Neue Galerie is special and elegant. That said, the menu is pricey, coming out to about $40 with tip for two special coffees (the Einspanner and Wiener Eiskaffee) and an apple strudel. The apple strudel was delicious. This seems like a good brunch spot as well.
This was my second time eating at this cafe. I wish it was my 100th. The people who wait on you are helpful, professional, and most of all friendly. The atmosphere is almost as delicious as the food.If you want to detest all sausages after theirs, youve come to the right place. Id recommend the weisswurst. It melts in your mouth. Also the kurscht cherry and chocolate (I forgot the exact name) cake is HEAVENLY.
Our evening started out a little weird. Despite having a reservation, we were stuck standing out in the cold for thirty minutes, waiting for a table. People kept leaving the cafe, but the doormen werent letting anyone in. They kept walking out, checking on everyone outside, then leaving with no communication. When we finally got inside, we were moved around to three different tables. Oh well, tried to keep positive because the atmosphere was beautiful and cozy. We ordered the crab salad and spaetzle. Both were very, very tiny portions. They were tasty, but in no way worth the high price. I would have ordered a pot of tea with my meal, but that was ten dollars for Harney and Sons, which also seemed ludicrous. Apple strudel for dessert was very dissapointing. I would come for the atmosphere and the food arrived quickly once we were able to order; I also like the options on the menu and the many dessert options, but the prices are way too high for the portions.
The cakes were great and the friendly waitress was kind enough find out which were made without gelatin before we ordered. The only disappointment was the tea, which was Harney and Sons bag tea. For $8 I would have expected a nice loose-leaf tea, but five stars regardless because everything else was so good.
Fantastic little place for German/Austrian/Hungarian food, but HOW COULD THEY BE OUT OF GOULASH at 6pm? Had the goulash soup which was a welcomed substitute. Service was great, nice selection of wines from the central European region. Definitely going back and they better have my goulash!
THIS IMITATION AT THE NEUE GALLERIE of a Viennese coffee place is so superb I imagine the tricksters and designers from Disney World come and pay homage over platters of the brag-worthy bratwurst. The marble tables on spindly iron legs are slightly too close, in the European way, and there is a rack of newspapers for customers to borrow. The hot chocolate is velvety and ideally sweetened.
Spectacular. Dale never likes food thats heavy but had goulosh that reminded her of dinner at her grandmothers house. The room is a gorgeous dining room in the home of someones grandparents in Austria. Four of us fully enjoyed everything we ate and had no room for dessert.......Im coming back for tea one of these days and have dessert with schlag. Thank you Ronnie Lauder. Not only is the museum spectacular, this is a very good restaurant. WARNING.....while the piano player is terrific, he is so loud as to make it hard to talk. We will return when he isnt around which rules out Friday, Saturday & Sunday. Thats surely fine. What a jewel of a restaurant
Had tried both dine-in and take-out. The Vienna 1900 tea is spectacular spectacular like I am drinking the entire “the world of yesterday”. Sachertorte is a must try as well! Apfelstrudel is way too small than those I had in Germany and Austria years ago and I personally don’t like the raisins in it.
Food and drinks were really good, beautiful inside but loses a star because the wait staff basically ignored us the whole time, which is a shame because we definitely wanted to order more but they took ages to come to our table. The desserts look amazing, didn’t have time to try :/
The decor was very reminiscent of a coffee-house in Vienna, amplified by the wait staff in their long aprons. The menu is extensive and varied, focused exclusively on German/Austrian fare and includes a wide range from full meals to lighter fare to pastries. We had a wurst and a cheese plate, both excellent. The wine list is very interesting, featuring Austrian selections. Prices are moderate, but we considered them to be very good value given the selection and quality.
Unlike most reviewers here, my experience was disappointing. I went here for the Sacher torte ($10.50) with apricot filling, which was OK but could hardly taste the apricot. My sons dish the chicken paprika ($32) was also mediocre and rather small. My cup of coffee ($8) was good. With prices that high the service should have been better; the waiter ran impatiently between tables. I asked for some extra whipped cream as my torte piece was dry, waited 10 minutes then had to ask another waiter; they charged $2 for it. The place is an ordinary bistro style with a dull wooden floor that was not swept clean. Tables/chairs are not of any standard. Security is airtight, and you have to discard your bottled water for which you may have paid $2+ which on a 90 degree summer day is unfair. There is a line to get in. I dont understand what the fuss is all about? the location, of course, is very nice.
I was at the Guggenheim and stopped here for lunch. The cafe is beautiful. The staff is very friendly. Its the only cafe I know of that makes you walk through a metal detector to get in. The food is okay, but fairly expensive. Id recommend this cafe most for a 4:00 stop for coffee and cake--a good place to take a friend to talk and sugar up.
Main course is very tasty, dessert is nicely done. I feel the portion is a little small here. I also had to go through security check at the entrance and I cannot bring a bottle of DRINKING WATER inside, I had to trash the bottle. Server does not refill water during the dining at all. Interesting!
A wonderful European cafe brought to life in New York. Its the only restaurant that truly captures that special something of a Paris or Viennese cafe. Beyond the space the food is excellent. Authentic Austrian cuisine done right. Simply some of the best baked goods in New York. Though the food is expensive for a casual cafe its worth it. The only major downside is the wait can be insane. There is a small cake in the basement that serves the same food and typically had less of a line. They occasionally have special musical events in the evening.
An authentic-feeling, bustling space—the staff whiz about like elegant dancers. We got the classics: Beef goulash and a paprika chicken, both served with spätzle. The flavor was very good, but neither dish was hot enough (especially on a cold winter day). We will return, but Ill ask for my food to be served piping hot, please.
I will never suggest this Caffé to go for lunch or dinner. Their website looks elegant with attractive information to customers , but reality is different. My family come from San Diego for Christmas Celebration to NY. I have reserved on the Sabarsky’ website a table for my family of 4 in 4 month in advance before our visit NY. What is interesting and very unusual, when I mad a reservation on the Sabarsky’ website, they even ask me the info of my credit card. I expected that this restaurant has high quality. My family and I walked from the Central Park about 30 min in rush to be on time at Sabarsky. When we arrived, there was not reserved table to us , a manager told us that they do not take a reservations !? My family has a tradition to come to NY for celebration Christmas. I always write itinerary in summer for winter holidays in NY. I make reservations for the restaurants, buy tickets online to visit various attractions.I have been never disappointed with any places we’re visited from my plan, even when we went to Japan , Europe and Russia. We done a lot of traveling and visited numbers of outstanding attractions and restaurants. We were always satisfied with the points of our interest. First time I am writing a negative review because of terrible attitude of a manager at Cafe Sabarsky.
More than just a beautiful dinning room. The staff here are very kind and accomidating. Most of the staff have been at the cafe for over two years now. The food is delicious and fresh. The dessert selection is over the top. Deeply flavorful made with whole ingredients. Nothing is artificial or sticky sweet. There are ussually about 10-15 daily made desserts to chose from. I really- really apreciate the quality of chocolate used. Good selection of white wine and sparkling parings. Love everything down to the gentle security staff.
I have had lunch two times here and the food is superb. One cannot really go wrong with Bratwurst. It was the Goulash and tarragon scented creamy spaetzle that put me over the edge or into the cloud. The goulash gravy was dark like chocolate and just the right consistency to dip the perfectly crumbed bread into. The beef was tender and I really liked the hint of scallion as garnish. The portions are perfect, in fact I didnt have room for dessert. It is a perfect way to begin the day and then go to the Met to walk off the calories! Will definitely make this a favorite thing to do when visiting the city. Oh did I forget to say the ambience is definitely European.
One of my favorite places in New York and one of the best, most special experiences you can have in New York. If you’re craving the food and atmosphere of a historic dinner cafe in Germany or Austria - Cafe Sabarsky is the spot. There is even live piano some evenings. Make a reservation! The sachertorte is, indeed, unbelievable. I would even come here just for dessert or a glass of wine. A wonderful experience to be had in the UES.
Nice interior. Good pastries. Great location.Rude, unnecessary security check! Security check to have a cup of coffee and a strudel!. With confiscations of bottled water! And with large pocket knives still passed through!Pleasant waiter. Has no knowledge of the menu. The menu! Which was out of first three dishes requested. Twice requested Splenda never arrived. In Viennaise coffee - absolutely disgusting coffee! Very strong and bitter - are NOT the traits of a good coffee!Essentially the general impression - great building in hands of those who really couldn’t care less for the people they serve. Tourists in Manhattan- will not come back any way. It was obvious it was “in your face” and that was wrong!
This site is my favorite place. Of all restaurants I know I like it most. I never miss an opportunity to go to that place. when I want to go to a good lunch, this is the place that comes immediately to my head. extremely good and food and a large menu.trained crew, and great ambience. Also, the charge is affordable. I suggest this spot with no doubt.
At the first moment you step in that place the waiters give you a comfortable feeling. Very friendly team, it is a happy restaurant to to go out with your friends or with your date. very good food, specialist chef de cuisine, honest pay and courteous service. Highly recommended.
This Austrian/ German cafe is located on the first floor of a building that also houses a museum of contemporary German art. The entrance is not very well marked. You enter via the same door as the gallery and then after a security check are directed to go right where the cafe is. Note that this is a dine-in place and you might need to wait in line. I visited to try the Sachertorte. It is a chocolate pastry with apricot jam served with whipped cream. I was honestly expecting it to be a lot sweeter. It is a bit pricey with but there are not too many German Austrian eateries around so the novelty makes up for the high price I would say.
Perhaps the fanciest Ive ever felt having coffee, without feeling like Im in over my head (or my wallet -- its not cheap but its worthy treat). I like to share a slice of something sweet with a friend on a break between museum visits mid-afternoon. The wide range of clientele makes it fun for people watching too.
Absolutely unique and delicious menu of Austrian-inspired dishes (lots of sausage and kraut, so keep in mind this may not be everyones favorite!) and yummy desserts named after long-dead European artists and composers. A one-of-a-kind spot, which says a lot for this cornucopia of a city that is New York, and definitely worth visiting after viewing the small though undeniably select collection of breathtaking Klimt paintings at the Neue Gallery! (Note that prices are high for both gallery entrance and cafe menu)
Great room. Good service. Delicious food but good luck trying to find anything healthy on the menu. I did my best. There was nothing with out cream, fat, mayo, salt, etc. The main reason to go is the romantic European feel. We were a bit shocked when the check came. We didn't expect so many small things for two people to add up to $131 (plus tip, not European tip)
Oh, man. Probably no dining experience in Manhattan is perfect, but this came close! We had coffee and dessert, and they were *delicious*. My neighborhood bodegas and delis have admittedly terrible coffee, but even so this coffee was some of the BEST I HAVE EVER HAD! (I like my coffee. This isnt something I say lightly.) The cake was also really tasty and the waiter was knowledgeable about the menu. (My companion who lived in Vienna wanted to know if one of their cakes had a certain traditional ingredient--sadly, no.Definitely on the more expensive side, but it was well worth it. So frequently in NY you pay a lot and get crappy food (or boring food). Here we did spend $40 for two people to have a drink and a dessert each, but the quality was great and it was well worth it.
Overrated, overpriced, creepy. The very polite but useless waitress advised me that the very salty smoked salmon plate that came with a tiny potato blini for $26 had to be eaten without any bread, unless I forked over another $3. Cold, impersonal and unaccommodating . Could not care less about the comfort, satisfaction or happiness of their customers.Plenty of fabulous restaurants on the upper Eastside for lunch/ brunch as alternatives to this ridiculous place. Never again!
Cozy cafe, really has an European vibe. You can go in for lunch/dinner/coffee without entering the museum. The cakes were good, but it is pricey for what you get. I was expecting the place to have more windows to Central Park, but it feels kind of close/tables are tightly arranged.
Never made it inside. The door staff, on the day (Saturday 10.24) are horrid people. My business associates and I approached to ask about the Cafe, and the militia style doorman yelled at us to get back. He then ignored us for a minute and eventually told us to get in line. I do hope the managers will read this comment and talk to their staff. With a similar experience quite some time ago, I was reluctant to try again, and only did so because our first choice was, unexpectedly not open for business. I did make it inside, one other time, before and found the facility very pleasant. The appearance of the food was more appealing than the flavors, and the price was least appealing.I will not try again and advise similar.
There’s overpriced and then there’s OVERPRICED. $30 for 2 chicken thighs in curry and a small side of pasta ... first and last time.Overrated, over priced and underwhelming in all aspects. There’s absolutely nothing special about this place unless u choose a place based on some ‘trending’ hashtag by NYC millennial. It’s a museum cafe with some poorly made Austrian dishes in small uncomfortable low tables.Other than comparing this to eating at Newark Airport, not sure what else comes to mind. Good concept, poor execution.
This place has been very much a go to for me when I’m in the area. All the food is incredibly delicious and the cakes and pastries are delectable. However I just had a very disappointing experience while having lunch. I got the crabmeat salad which was fresh and yummy until I bit down on a big crunch. Now I had pieces of shattered crab shell in my mouth which I delicately but impolitely had to try to get out. I ended up having to swallow most of it because the shards were so small and difficult. I understand that crabmeat can often be tainted with a small piece of shell seeing as the meat itself is so precious and delicate to get out of the animal, however this was not such a small piece and decidedly was of dangerous size- had I not broken it in my mouth before swallowing I could have choked. I’ve had crab shell stuck in my throat all day. Is this where the term “feeling crabby” comes from?I would be less upset if the response by the waitress was more compassionate and understanding however when I mentioned it she instead looked at me coldly and said “the crab is very fresh and the purveyor is in charge of getting the shell out” to which I didn’t know how to respond. I just wanted to make sure they were aware that it could be dangerous to feed someone something inedible but she was instead almost rude and unapologetic. Sad to say that this happened because normally I’ve had nothing but good experiences here. Color me disappointed
Ive had good experience with the hostess and staff here, who have been very polite and attentive. Ive only had the bratwurst with sauerkraut (delicious, and a surprisingly large portion for a fancy cafe), and the glüwhein (a hot, spiced red wine, also delicious), but they have a decent menu of stuff I cant pronounce. My girlfriend says the atmosphere is very Austrian, and she loves it. I had to wait a while to be seated once, but it was Mothers Day, so whatever.
We had breakfast today and it felt like home in the first district of vienna♥️The Sachertorte tasted much better than the original Sachertorte from Hotel Sacher. The Wiener Melange and the Gugelhupf were great and the service very friendly. The atmosphere at Sabarsky is solid, quiete, discreet classic music, like viennese traditional coffeehouses from the imperial area. Its like time is standing still there. If you want to feel a little bit like visiting Vienna, take some time, drink coffee and enjoy good viennese cuisine at Sabarskys.
Wonderful décor, excellent service, but the prices have gone up significantly over the past year. Although the menu is authentic, $30.00 for a tiny piece of wienerschnitzel and a few potatoes is simply overpriced, even for New York Citys Upper East side. Its a shame, because I used to frequent this café quite often for lunch, but now I will simply have coffee there. They should seriously re-think their prices. I noticed that it was empty today, which is odd for a Sunday.
Excellent Austrian food and ambiance. Great during the day as you can look through the windows onto 5th avenue and the park. Had the smoked salmon with potato pancake, cheese bratwurst with potato and sauerkraut, and diced caramelized crepe suffle, which was one of the best desserts Ive had.
Great place for lunch, tea, or dinner especially if you are in the area to see museums. They also have musical performances from time to time with dinner for what sounds like a great event (though I havent tried this). If you are going for lunch, they dont take reservations so go on the early side, a little before noon.
This place is absolutely ABYSMAL, definitely recommend you go there if getting treated like rubbish by serving staff is what youre into.My cousins and I went there for dessert and were ignored the entire time, despite trying to make eye contact with the staff. Without any success I then went over to ask for a menu - to which they thrust one into my hands. I went back to my cousins and looked at the waiter, then back at my cousins, saying to them the waiter was very rude.He literally marched back to the table and barked at me, demanding whether I had just called him rude. To which I said yes and he then said something along the lines of, oh is that so, well I think youre rude and I suggest you speak to my manager! His manager came over and everyone was staring at us at this point. I knew what would happen next. Nonetheless I told him what had just transpired and he told me this was the first time he had ever heard such a complaint about his staff and was very surprised and couldnt do anything about it.Needless to say, we walked out of there in disgust. Having travelled to over 30 countries and lived in 6, pretty surprised that this part of town managed to demonstrate the lowest level of culture and class I have ever seen.Thank goodness the rest of my trip to NYC made up for this awful experience.
Excellent Austrian dishes. Very simple fare, sparse plating, authentic flavor. We ordered off the sausage menu, both delicious.Würste / SausagesWeisswurst mit Brezen & Händelmaier‘s 20Bavarian Sausage, warm Pretzel, MustardKäsekrainer mit Sauerkraut & Rösterdäpfel 20Smoked Bratwurst stuffed with Cheddar Cheese, Riesling Sauerkraut, Roasted Potatoes & MustardExpensive, yes, but so are all the restaurants in the area and many get so-so reviews.Enjoy a sit down lunch them wander the museum.
A place for an Austrian to feel home in the heart of NYC! The waiters were friendly, the décor was as expected Austrian and the food was great! Sure, the prices are inflated, but that is to be expected when visiting one of the only truly Austrian venues in NYC! I would not call it a tourist trap! The décor, food and flair is authentic and they kept the Austrian charm alive instead of bowing down to tourist demands.
It is located inside the Neue Galerie as their café, and named after the co-founder of Neue Galerie, the German and Austrian Art museum. Since this Viennese cafés is inside the museum, it comes with incredible artistic interior. There is a staff at the door, since there usually is a line out the door to get in to Neue Galerie. Not everyone is going to see the arts, but only to the café. For the ones going into the museum will go straight to the desk to pay admission. The ones going to the café will go to the right, towards the golden sign and another line…for the café only this time. The inside is a one big room with tall ceiling. The floor and walls were covered with dark wood, topped with beautiful crown molding. They had large windows from floor to ceiling, bringing in lots of natural lights.Out of all the super delicious sounding dessert menu, we finally decided on Feuilletine and Topfentorte. Most of the desserts were priced at $9.50. They were both incredibly amazing, although they were smaller than I had hoped for... We also ordered Kaiser Mélange and Einspänner, basically coffee with whipped cream. But they brought these coffee to the next level...It was awesome! The service was nice and efficient, our waitress was nice and friendly. The ambiance was really nice, it was like dining in a room full of artistic history. It was constantly busy the whole time we were there, and very lively. I would love to go back again for more desserts, and also for their food items during breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Read my full review of the cafe and food on my food blog, foodlovergirl.
Horrendous service beyond words! Most of the staff are rude fresh off the boat foreigners that went out of their way to offend clients. This after waiting in line for 30 min to get in. Once seated what followed was rushed, disorganised service. Food was cold, they forgot my wine and only brought it when I was half through my main course, the AC was cranked up to suit the busy staff not the seating customers. I was brought my bill before I was done and rushed out the door with my wine unfinished. An horrible horrible experience
Ronald S. Lauder, Neue Galerie was really my reason to come here. But the Museum opens only at 11.00am. So I went to the coffee shop. And what a surprise I found a real “Wiener Kaffee” in the middle of New York. With Apfelstrudel and Wiener Sachertorte! So you do not need to go to Vienna anymore to enjoy this authentic style. A great trouvaille.
Very nice design, professional staff, but apfelstrudel was disappointing. I had apple strudel in Austria and London. Always served warm, this one was cold. Pastry was nice and flaky but not original one. The worst thing was the filing, very grainy and floury. Tea was nice, hot food look delicious, but strudel in London in Fountain Restaurant in Fortnum and Mason is way better
Had heard great things about Cafe Sabarsky, and were excited to eat there before going up to the Klimt exhibition. But, we were SO disappointed. One of us got the crab and avocado salad, which had less than a quarter cup of crab hidden under half an avocado (with no attempt at presentation at all, just plopped there). The other had the Spaetzle - the pasta and sauce were flavorful, but the vegetables were sparse (and I suspect frozen). That, plus a cup of coffee ($7!!) and soda, cost us over $60.....outrageous even by Manhattan standards. Maybe the desserts are the highpoint - but we didnt order dessert - if we ever come back to the cafe, thats certainly all Id order. The museum is gorgeous, but eat lunch somewhere else first.
Its wonderful in here; the place is well lit and really looks so clean and classy. They also have a wide variety of choices in their menu and their wait staff really knows what theyre selling as the one who attended us gave us pretty nice recommendations on what to choose.
Disgraceful service, really terrible experience for a ridiculous price. Food is just tasteless and not very nice at all, the manager is rude. Extremely overpriced and a real shame to Austrian culture. Do not waste your money here, if you want somewhere pleasant to eat, go to the Italian place 2 minutes down the road called Ristorante Morini.
Located within the Neue Galerie, this is an awesome Viennese style cafe. They have lots of great dishes such as variations on sausages and schnitzel that are very tasty, as well as great coffee drinks. We sat in a nice corner table where you can view the great European vibe with lots of dark wood decoration and dressed up wait staff. The only drawback is that the line to get in is quite long, and its a bit pricey ($6 for the Viennese coffee)
The desserts here are spectacular, but service is downright unfriendly, snobbish and rude.Though they serve my favorite desserts in NYC (and I recommend going for the food and lovely ambience), savory food is absurdly overpriced, and you will receive almost shockingly indifferent service.
The place is very nice with a very good atmosphere. But the waiters can be a bit rude... They are impatient and they will ignore you on purpose. While a friend and I was picking something to order the waiter just left without saying a word. But at least the food and drinks were nice.
Located in the neue galerie on upper east side. We had schnitzel, sachertorte, esterhazy cake and marillenpalatschinken (viennese crepe). Drink the almdudler, which is a sparkling herb soda. As a born and raised viennese guy I can assure you, there is no more authentic viennese kaffeehaus in the states! Go there, even if you just wanna have a good coffee. Getting the feeling and the atmosphere of a real kaffeehaus and how it used to be in 1910s in one of intellectual molting pots in the world- Vienna.
Overpriced / poor value. The Bavarian goulash was reminiscent of a mediocre pot roast with a hint of curry. The bratwurst was seemingly of high quality but unremarkable. I left thinking what did I expect from German cuisine except that 60 dollars for lunch could have been spent better somewhere else.
As an OCD car enthusiast/collector, I am generally picky about who touches my car. When I picked up my car he gave me a thorough walkthrough and went the extra mile by cleaning the engine bay and polishing my scratched tailights. After further inspection, 90% of my surface scratches were gone. I am highly satisfied with his services. I will definitely bring my other cars to him, and he will have my business from now on. Dont hesitate to give him a call.
After being humiliated during the bag search at the front door...like the TSA on roids!...we were told that there would be no late lunch due to an event hours later. We persisted and were served ridiculous food at even more ridiculous prices. Pretense and pricey small plates prevent anything close to an authentic Viennese experience. Get over yourselves.
Cafe Sabarsky is a wonderful cafe in New York, especially if you crave a return to MittelEuropa, newspapers in wooden holders, a piano, high ceilings, gorgeous chandelier, a view onto the park and the best cakes in the city, usually mit Schlag, served on a small silver tray with excellent Viennese coffee & a glass of water. All the food is first rate, but coffee-and-cake are perfection.
If I could give less than one star, I would.Pricey restaurant, bland food. This was a major dissapointment. Save your money for another restaurant with better food.Food was sent back (the first time I have ever done so in a restaurant) and no compensation was offered when the bill arrived.
Horrible. We had a reservation. We confirmed 15 minutes before coming up. Gorillas at the door kept us waiting 15 minutes outside, in the cold, despite our reservation. Once inside, the waiters in the café ignored us for another 10 minutes, although 2 tables had been empty for at least 10 minutes. We had to force our way in, again, despite having a reservation. Who is in charge?for me, NEVER AGAIN

2022-06-17Wow! Some of the best food I’ve eaten in New York!! Absolutely delicious. Had incredible Austrian vibes - decorated so beautifully I felt like I was in a cafe in Vienna. Coffee was great, can’t get coffee like that in the US! Dessert was so so good, we wanted to order all of it! Highly highly recommend plus a small browse of the museum afterwards, just for a few hours felt as if I was in Europe.

2022-06-035 star for the food and ambiance. Bratwurst is juicy, meaty but elegantly so. Attention has been given to the details. Sauerkraut is not a salty and boring one. Even scallion is a nice one and provide nice contrast to an overall slightly oil dish (but again nicely so). Good to pair the dish with a glass of Blaufränkisch from Mittelburgenland.Sachertorte is certainly classic and I would recommend the Sabarskytorte too. Rum adds complexity and layers to the chocolate cake without overpowering. We visited on a Saturday night and there is a live piano performance. Service is adequate but not particularly remarkable.

2022-07-17We found this gem while looking for coffee after walking around The Met Museum. We were seated quickly to a corner table near the coffee bar. It was the perfect spot bc the a/c blew directly on it and that day the heat was pretty brutal outside. The interior of the restaurant is very authentic and beautiful. The dessert menu seems endless. We choose double espresso with milk and the Mozarttorte. Seriously best dessert I’ve had! Creamy, sweet pistachio and nougat. While we didn’t eat any entrees here, I highly recommend a visit!

2022-01-08Food 3/5Location 5/5Wait 4/5Staff 4/5I heard that this was the place to go in New York for cakes so I went there with the sole purpose of getting a great New York cheesecake. Now it may have been that my expectations were too high, but I was rather disappointed by it. Both the top and bottom of the cheesecake had a regular cake consistency which made it very light and nothing like a cheesecake I was expecting. They are right next to Central Park which is phenomenal and east to get to by subway. The wait is outside and split by museum or restaurant and ended up being only 15-20 minutes which was not too bad for New York. The prices were a bit higher than I am use to which coffee being about $10 but that is not unexpected in New York.Overall, It could be that their other options were better and I just chose the wrong one but I would get one of the other cakes if you plan on going.

2022-04-19Café Sabarsky was a beautiful experience, the room was gorgeous and the coffee and dessert was excellent. We got the Sachertorte, Linzertorte, Kaiser Mélange and the Wiener Mélange, all of which were lovely. The coffee was rich and the whipped cream on the coffee and cakes was so fluffy and delicious. I am typically not a fan of any type of cake so I was skeptical if the Sachetorte, but when it arrived I was stunned at how good it was and would definitely return and order it again.I came midday on a Saturday (around 2:30 pm) and there was about a ten minute wait which was definitely worth it and went by quickly. Although it is more expensive than most other coffee shops, the experience, atmosphere and quality are more than worth it. The staff was so kind and helpful, the hostess was nice enough to clear off a booth for us without us asking and made sure we were seated in a great corner. Highly Recommend!!

2021-10-22Perfect upper east side spot. Elegant Austrian food in a chic classic ambience. Chef Christoper Engle doesn’t miss a beat and Gerhard Kaltseis is making sure you are taken care of.

2021-09-28Having traveled around Austria trying all of the Sachertortes, it’s truly a shame that the best one was in my own backyard. Sure at $10.50 it’s pricy, but to be transported to Vienna for an hour, it is well worth it.The decor, menu, and appearance are strikingly similar to the cafes I went to, down to the table furnishings. I only came for dessert and probably would only come back for it, but this is definitely on my top of list dessert experiences in NYC.

2022-05-24An amazing atmosphere and attentive staff. The food and drink transports me to my time in Germany. The one downside is the wait time can be a bit long.
