Honestly this place is pretty cute and the music was not too loud. It’s very conveniently located in a cute spot. Plenty of space, lots of tables, lovely ambiance. The drinks were decent, lots of margarita options. The food which is my main complaint or disappointment was less than average. The plate was so hot that it made me feel as if the food was precooked and not fresh. It was not tasty or authentic at all. I had 1/3rd of my entree and I was starved. The food just didn’t digest. The cheese was melted but hard and cold and there’s no way the cheese can be so cold when the plate is hot. The place isn’t even cheap or affordable but I’ve had way better Mexican food.I personally do not recommend. And won’t go back.
Overall, I rate them 3 stars.Drinks- the drinks were delicious. They offer a great variety of drinks in various flavors. I recommend the mango mojito. The margs were also great.Food- To start, we ordered the nachos. We were not impressed. They had refried beans on them and the cheese and chicken weren’t great- not a fan and have definitely had better. For our meals, we ordered the chicken quesadilla and steak quesadilla. They were good, but nothing out of this world.Caliente Cab was good, but not mind blowing. I would return for drinks, but not to have another meal.
A beautiful Mexican restaurant with lovely staff. The food was pretty good. The shots however are overpriced and sad to say they were watered down. I say this bc we bought a bottle of the same liquor after we left and it was way more intense then what we got at the restaurant .
My waiter Jesus R was wonderful. Very attentive and even suggested some items that was really tasty. The drinks were so good. The Fried Ice Cream was the best. I enjoyed visiting this restaurant on a sleepy Monday evening after work. Oh and the ambiance was relaxing too.
We have been going to Caliente for a very long time! We specifically came back since we now live in Florida. Jesus made our visit special. He was attentive to our needs and aware of small details. He informed us of the specials and wasnt intrusive but always attentive. Margaritas were amazing as usual!! Food always up to par.
I have been coming to this place since 1990. Tonight I brought my youngest son here for his 12th birthday. The service was outstanding. They helped me celebrate my sons birthday In an exciting fashion. Absolutely the best ..!!!!! Wow. Like a good wine - it gets better with age. My server - Giselle - was outrageously awesome.
The service was amazing on a wintery Sunday night. Our server Jesus R, was so helpful & took extra care making sure I had the right tortillas (corn & so delicious). The portions are huge! And the margaritas are made w fresh fruit & strong. We will def be coming back & asking to sit in Jesus R section as he was simply the best!! - Jackie
A great Wednesday evening at cab Caliente. Drinks were great and the food! But most importantly our waiter Luis. Truly the best service.I started my dinner in a bad mood from a tough day at work and my night quickly turned into a pleasant and enjoyable after being served by Luis.
I went here last night with my son (last minute decision) for Mother’s Day dinner. We LOVE this restaurant & have been many times. It’s in the West Village & has a fabulous, unpretentious atmosphere, and great Mexican food! ***Our waiter was Jesus R. and he was fabulous!!!!*** He definitely went out of his was to be super nice to me/us—-which was so extra because it was Mother’s Day. 5 Stars for Jesus R. and for Caliente Cab Co!
We live nearby and have always walked past this place wanting to try it. The ambiance is very cute, and the food was good. However, they charged us for one of their $60 drinks, when we clearly ordered the $20 size--pointing to it explicitly on the menu to our server. This feels like a very predatory tactic that I would expect in a more tourist-oriented place. As a local, I certainly wont be returning.
I have been to quite a number of taco places and this is hands down the best spot to go to! The taco tower is a must but make sure to come on an empty stomach. The food tasted delicious and fresh! Drinks were pretty good too! The price was reasonable for the city considering all the food and drinks ordered.Plenty of social distancing btwn tables!Great atmosphere!
I was there yesterday, and the server was so rude and unprofessional. I ordered and small margarita then I ordered a big one because I liked it. He had the nerve to tell me the price of it as a warning. Who does that 😳? Im planning to go back next week but I will make sure that he wont be serving my table. RUDE.
Came here with friends on a busy Saturday night and we didn’t have reservations. Fortunately, we were able to be seated within 45 minutes and had a great time. I ordered the blue corn enchiladas and a coconut lime margarita. Everything was so tasty, I just wish I had room for more. The only downfall was that it was super crowded and they assigned one server to two stations upstairs. He wasn’t able to be that attentive to us but he did his best. As a dessert, I had the Churritos fondue. Overall I’ll give that a 3/10 because The churros were over fried and the only sweetness came from the fondue and the powdered sugar that was sprinkled on top.
We got the Gigante margarita in the tamarind flavor and it was pretty good. It was alot for 2 people. You should probably get that drink if there are 4 or more of you. The food was alright. I love the guacamole the most. We couldnt sit inside but outside was cool not uncomfortable.
I usually like coming here for the drinks and food, but I was disappointed with the service when I came here with my significant other on a relaxed Wednesday evening. It wasn’t busy. We ordered one round of drinks each and nachos then were ignored for about a half hour. Our waitress passed our table numerous times and didn’t check in on us. We had empty glasses and cleared plates. We were very clearly trying to get her attention and would’ve ordered more, but we were so tired of waiting we practically had to stop her in her tracks just to be able to pay our bill and get out of there. It seems like coming with a large crowd is the only way to get any service.
Stopped by here for drinks and few apps. Place looked really nice from the outside. Peeped the lady , making fresh Guac through the window. It was definitely a vibe in there !! Went and order the huge frozen margarita , it was the size of my girlfriends head. Tacos and Tuna Fajitas were excellent!! It’s definitely a vibe with a group of friends .
I came to This restaurant with two of my Afro Latina friends (and myself) for some drinks and good food. Walking into the restaurant we were taken directly to the back. As we were eating , more and more black people were sitting in the back and as we were exiting the restaurant, we noticed that whites families were Sat In the front. The food was good but the treatment was discriminatory.
We were lucky enough to have just stopped here wandering the streets after walking the high line thirsty and hungry, great buzz here wonderful location on a busy street junction to watch the NYC life happen. We enjoyed the fabulous service of Gisele who smiled and was endlessly busy with everyone. Making us so welcome and time to chat with us. Food and drinks were gorgeous and sooo fresh. Highly recommend. Thank you Gisele from Shauna (Galway Ireland) with Tanya and Charlotte
It’s such a good place to eat and drink. The mezcalitas are amaziiiing, specially the Tamarind and Blood Orange. Service is amazing, so attentive and funny, our waiter Jesus was the best! Try the Torta Arrechera, is a different type of burger and you will love it! Totally coming back for another date night.
We had a wonderful experience. Id walked past this place for twenty years and finally stopped for dinner with some visiting colleagues from the UK. I love Mexican and was really pleased. The guac was ordered spicier and it was terrific. Everyone enjoyed their drinks (including my 11 year old who was able to get a Pina colada sans rum) and the food was really good. Im a vegetarian and the kitchen happily swapped out the chicken in a chimi with the veggies from an enchilada. I look forward to a reason to go back.
We just happened to stumble on this place. Apparently, it the spot to be. The Nachos was good - can use a little more meat tho, the Grand Margarita was the highlight and so good. The price for it is $60 but we caught happy hour and it was $30. The manager John and staff was great. I think thats gonna be a new spot of ours
Unfortunately I was so disappointed with the management! There system somehow did now show my payment but had cleared on my end and with proof from my bank the manager was trying to charge my card again with the rational that I could fight a double charge if I needed too! Ummm, No Sir! Food was good but come with cash to pay to avoid these events!
This place is amazing and highly recommended for anyone who loves Mexican food. We ordered chicken nachos and shredded chicken quesadilla— they were amazing. Guac was very fresh and food was delicious. The ambience is welcoming and the staff was respectful too. Highly recommend!
I am so happy my friend group decided to come here. I got a Passionfruit Marg, house-made guac, and the queso tacos. Everything was delicious!! Most of all I need to shout out our waitress, Amber. She was so helpful and her personality is amazing. She is the epitome of positive vibes. I cannot wait to go back!
The first Mexican restaurant that charges $7 for salsa.!!! The atmosphere is really nice, food is good but not that great to change $12 for just two tacos. The service is really good. Carlos was our server and he was really helpful. Drinks are really good. Overall is to experience.
The highlight of our visit was the drinks! Of course they have their famous huge margarita but they have one of the best pina coladas I have had in a long time! They also offer a wide variety of size options for the drinks which allows you to try all the flavors! Also my server, Jesus, was an absolute gem! Definitely request to see him.
Family has been going to caliente since the 90s. It’s a NY staple. The food and drinks here are on another level. Ordered the classic LI iced tea and made a mistake of ordering a 2nd smaller one! 1 and done should be the rule in this place lol. One of my favorite places in all of NY.
This place doesnt have the best food or the best drinks. But it might just be the best value for brunch in the city, and certainly in the village. Brunch with full entree and 2 drinks is $14! Thats the price of a single cocktail at most bars in the area, so I was enormously grateful for my delicious frozen margarita and not-mindblowing-but-still-tasty breakfast sandwich.
I was there today meeting up with one of my client for dinner .i first got in sat down the waiter name armanda was quickly greeted me asked me if I need anything to drink with her warm smile and greeting . After order she come back and forth to make sure our order is good so asked us how is the food . The food is good tasty and the drink is great would definitely go back.
A just ok Mexican place. Lovely starting and place was overpriced. The waiter was almost rude and stressed out and not helpful at all. I wished he would have answered my questions while looking less desperate when asking for a « skinny » margarita. The food was ok, a bit dry. Guacamole was really good! Nice for a quick eat.
Upon entering the manager or whoever this person was who was in charge of checking for vaccination cards did not utter a word of anything remotely close to a warm welcome. He did not say hi, how are you, welcome. Instead he said “I need to see your COVID card.” The table upstairs are set up for failure. Tables are so crammed together it was hard to eat without someone bumping into my table. The wooden tables are angled in a weird way where I could not cut my chicken without the table moving. I felt like my plate was going to tip over. To add more injury, the first server came over way too soon to take my order. Then a second server took over and kept rushing me throughout my whole experience. Candles were taken away as I was enjoying my food. Checks were dropped faster than my ability to digest my food. On top of that he also took my signed check which I despise more than anything in the world. NYC -hold your horses please and focus on caring about people and their experiences.
Been going to the caliente Cab company since the 90s. The one on University place was amazing. This is now the only location and it has the ambiance of a little hideaway on the corner. The ceviche is not as flavorful as I expected. Had to ask for more lime and heat. Overall it was a good experience. I do plan on going back to sample a few more plates! Since the menu has changed.
This is the best Mexican food Ive found on the east coast. Im a Colorado boy and finding any sort of southwestern or Mexican food here has been basically impossible since these poor people hate heat and flavor. Haha! But this place was awesome. I had the carne asada and truly loved it. Its a great location, the prices are good for the food you get, and the service was good as well. I highly recommend this place!
Great spot for food and drinks. Casual atmosphere and excellent service. We had tacos, calamari, chicken quesadillas, flautas and corn on the cob all very delicious! The corn on the cob was a bit spicy for my taste , then again Im not much for spicy foods. For drinks we had the Piña Colada, the watermelon margarita and the mojito all very well balanced, super yummy. Favorites would be the tacos carnitas and the mojito. If you are celebrating a Birthday they have you covered! A quick Birthday song along with Chocolate cake and a sombrero. This is a great spot I highly recommend you check them out!
One of the popular spots in West Village restaurant row! Good for birthdays as drinks are nicely priced and also has a Latin America vibe to it. My favorite was the guacamole.. whoever makes it does it better than most places I had it from even in Mexico! Bar is great too
I love this place! Pina colada and the guacamole is the best in the world 😊 The staff, Jesus and Giselle always make you feel home and give you the little extra that you appreciate so much as a customer. Always smiling and making sure you have a great experience. The place wouldn’t be the same without them ❤️
We have been coming to Caliente for 6 years. It is THE BEST pina coladas and food and service. The staff are great, Jesus R has tended our table many many many times over the years. If your fortunate to meet him you will be well taken care of worh service. Jesus is a friend to us and we look for him every time we visit Caliente , he even welcomes our puppy Mr. Chow . Look forward to seeing you again soon my friend
My server was Jesus. Let me start by saying he was amazing. Awesome server who was available at all times but not overbearing. He was quick, nice, and accommodating. He gave us the perfect seat by an open window which made my day because it was halloween and I could see outside while being seated inside. As always the food was good and the margaritas on point. Please do yourself a favor and go here. Ive been a customer for 20 plus years and Ive never been disappointed. Cheers and enjoys if you decide to visit.
Ok, where do I start? We visited today as a group of 10 and tried their brunch options. They have an amazing brunch menu: total value for money and taste. They have two Brunch options: standard includes 2 cocktails, 1 main course and potatoes and the fiesta includes 6 tacos, 4 cocktails and guac and chips to be shared between 2 people. Both are very delicious, super helping, and very well presented. Ambience is moderate; not too noisy for noon but not too dull either. Servers are kind. All in all a great Mexican place in the heart of the West Village.
Wish I could give 0 stars, worst Mexican food EVER!!! Guacamole needed salt, El Pastor had tomatoes and port was cubed in sauce, the Chimichanga was oily and soggy. Overall no flavor and authenticity. I think people are drunk when writing these favorable reviews because this was a waste of time, better off getting Chipotle I promise! And I never wrote review but happy if I can save at least one person.
Service was ok on my first visit, not much I can remember about it. And the food was good, nothing really stood out for me. But the drinks were really good and strong, and on my second visit I just stayed at the bar. The bartender was great, I asked for something that wasnt on the menu and he made it. The main reason for a 5 star.
Great restaurant. And spotless toilets. We had the ceviche and the chips with guacamole to start. The ceviche was top notch. I had a prickly pear cocktail and it was delicious. It has a kick though. For mains we had the chicken burrito and the steak quesadilla. The quesadilla was nice and meaty with a very sharp cheese. It was very tasty. The chicken burrito was very nice though quite large. We had the ice-cream for dessert. The ice-cream was very decent. The atmosphere is very nice with very friendly staff.
Layout/atmosphere*wraparound bar and tables on first floor; more tables second floor/balconyService*GoodFood/drink*Chips with guacamole (large) - Good*Panko-crusted pollo con queso torta (breaded chicken cutlet with Oaxacan cheese, spicy black beans, avocado, cilantro, and chipotle mayo on semolina roll) with spicy fries - Good*Blood orange margarita 8 oz (Cazadores tequila, blood orange juice, agave, no salt on rim) - Good
Excellent place! Their large margaritas to share are back to old price of $60, which is amazing considering the fact that me and 3 other people got quite tipsy from it. Their guacamole is good, but cheese nachos are definitely the best. If you’re vegetarian, this can be a perfect meal on its own. I didn’t see too many vegan options on the menu, but lots of stuff can be made vegetarian. Staff is very friendly and location is amazing, make sure to sit outside and enjoy the view and busy streets.
My first time been here and I loved it. Its hard to find a place with great drinks and food both together in one place, caliente cab its one of them. me and the wife had an awesome time, we drank and ate happily even though it was nasty pouring outside. They offer outside sitting thats always a plus. their drinks are amazing specially the mango frozen margarita I recommend it.
The drinks are good, the food too good. I would return just for the drinks, the vibe of the place is great, nice music, very cool decoration. They have outside space which nice to relaxing and enjoy the sunset in Manhattan, the inside space is all in wood and lower lights, super cool. Worth to come in for the large margaritas. Management you need to work on your food quality and size of your portions, comparing that to Cantina Rooftop and other Mexicans restaurant in Manhattan your food is way below them and way more expensive.
Dined here last night and had nothing short of an exceptional experience thanks to our server Jesus R. He went above and beyond to make sure our meal and experience were customized to perfection. Definitely try this place and be sure to request to sit in Jesus’s section.
I have been here a few times with friends and for Birthday’s, the food is always so good and fresh, but today my experience was even better because of the amazing service from Jesus R! He was so kind and made sure that my food came out so quick! He was more than helpful and I’m glad I stopped in for a great lunch! This is a perfect spot in the West Village if you’re looking for a fun night with your friends or even a casual lunch by yourself!
Came in here on a whim to continue celebrating a friends birthday. The outside of the building looked very inviting and the staff at the front door was immediately warm and welcoming. My friend wanted to order a very expensive liquor and our waiter, Jesus R, was quick to double check with her so that we would not be surprised by the large bill. I found this so comforting that he was not trying to push an expensive item but instead make sure we knew what we were ordering. Lastly, without any of us asking, Jesus surprised us with a churro treat and a group singing Happy Birthday. It was all unexpected and extremely kind of him to arrange. I have never written a review before but I felt Jesus and the staff at Caliente Cab deserved a big thank you!!
I came with my GF and her mother. The service was amazing and the food was delicious even though we came primarily for drinks. Our waiter Jesus, was very patient and helpful and explained the menus throughly to help us come to a decision about our tequila choices. He recommended the Cabo Wabo which did not disappoint. Would definitely recommend!
Was in West Village and decided to try this spot for Lunch. Plenty of outdoor seating on a Wednesday afternoon. I had the chicken tacos and LOVED them. I dont drink Alcohol so had a diet Pepsi! Hard to find in the city. Everyone else serves diet One. SO happy. Food was great, service was fast. Reason 4 stars is they charge 4 bucks for a soda
Jesus was an incredible waiter! The margaritas are bigger than anywhere I’ve been! They also brought a lot of chips and salsa, and the nachos were well priced and very flavorful! The guacamole even though a little pricey was incredibly flavored and spicy! 100% would recommend for locals and/or tourist!
Jesus R. served me an excellent meal. I had the ceviche, which was nice and fresh and the fundido con Carne which was just as tasty. The portions were both hefty and the Blood Orange margarita I had with my meal had the perfect balance of fruit flavor to tequila. Will definitely be back!
The waitress was extremely slow and unsure of the menu. The food service sucks. I order the fried calamari and it was bland it wasnt fried crisp enough. It was a rushed job. Totally not worth the time as well as the drinks not giving you a buzz at all. Not my cup of tea . Ps i was literally there LAST NIGHT the ratings are overrated .
Was at this restaurant yesterday for the very first time, I was really impressed by the awesome service! Special shout out to Natalia and Alondra, they were so sweet and always taking care that I was having a good time. Good food and drinks with a great vibe as well. I will definitely come back!!
Jesus R was our waiter and he made our night! He was attentive and made sure our orders were correct. My coworkers and I used to come here after work on Fridays and haven’t been back since the pandemic. But since it’s opened they did not disappoint. The drinks and food are a great pick me up after a long work week.
I walk by this place every day to get home, it’s always slammed. After finally eating there I understand why it’s a great place to be. Great food and drinks, affordable prices, fun ambiance. Will definitely be back. Our server Jesus was great hope to be served by him in the future.
. The food was horrible. I had to ask the server twice to heat up my enchiladas. For $20 land get served luke warm food was disgusting. I dont have money to waste. The Frozen Marg was good. The white sangria too sweet. the cocktails over priced but tasty. My server was kind. If I go again it will be for frozen classic Margarita ONLYSigned Lesilie
Great food, awesome atmosphere. The food is so delicious and colorful with and their drinks are the best, lots of choice and very refreshing. I love it there, I take my friends, my boyfriend and my mom who was visiting from Florida. Chicken burrito is my usual and drinks Any Goes!
Yo JESUS was amazing! Really made sure we was good the whole night. When you come here. Ask for him! Very tentative and caring. Brings you extra napkins even when you don’t ask for it. Food is worth the price and drinks as well. I recommend the patron margarita. JESUS is mad LIT 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥☄️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥☄️☄️☄️☄️☄️☄️☄️
Like a Mexican Applebees. Institutional food and institutional pre-made margarita mix (with maybe a dash of tequila). Price point is not egregiously high but not inexpensive either. Service was good. But in the future, I will be sure to go to a local authentic Mexican place.
I legit had the best experience! Amber was the absolute most attentive and informative waiter I have ever had! She has great energy and it made my eating experience even that much more enjoyable and delish! Food was a 10/10. Deff authentic Mexican food. Would absolutely recommend and would go again!

2022-06-27This spot is in the village which is always nostalgic for me. No reservations needed. Guacamole is sooo good, made fresh. I ordered the chicken enchiladas and it tasted like the chicken was marinated in lime. Taste like a piece of heaven. Cooked perfectly. The coconut margarita was delicious and hit the spot. You must go here! The service was good and quick. I highly recommend.

2022-05-04I ordered the carne asada tacos (my usual go-to at any taqueria). overall, the tacos were extremely tasty and left me craving more. the meat was perfectly seasoned/marinated. the marinade flavors were soaked deep into the meat, and the outside of it was perfectly charred. with the squeeze of lime, cilantro, and green salsa, the flavors were perfection. the only suggestion i have is giving each taco two corn shells instead of one (the juices caused it to be moist pretty quick and rip through the bottom) and also the option to add white onions. all in all amazing tacos— would definitely recommend checking them out

2022-04-08Drinks where pretty good. Food not bad. The setting was great just needs a little bit more lighting. They going for a calm romantic setting but hard to read the menu with low lighting.

2022-05-29THE PERFECT SPOT for margs and friends! We ventured over to Caliente Cab to connect with some friends in the city. We started off with their largest size of margs and found the flavors SO difficult to pick from. We ordered a round of tequila shots which was an experience in itself and paired perfectly with our guacamole and chips. PS they will give you more chips - just ask! The decor whisks you away to a margarita heaven and you forgot you’re in NYC for a second. The food, the service, the staff and the margs - 10/10! We totally recommend Caliente Cab!!!

2021-10-07Caliente Cab, has always been my go to for Mexican Food. I took my stepdaughter for dinner a few weeks ago, and I was disappointed. We ordered the ceviche, and chicken steak fajitas. The ceviche I am used to comes in a soup substance. The one that we received had a strong taste of cilantro and it just wasn’t a pleasant taste. We both did not finish eating it. The fajita was okay, but the chicken had no taste and the steak had little taste. I don’t know what happened, why the food was so tasteless. Maybe, new management 😒. I never had an issue with the food at Caliente Cab, this time it was bad 😡
