My son loved the camp! He was exposed to many water activities, fishing, fly boarding, jet skiing, body boarding, surfing. This camp is a brilliant idea! We are considering doing this camp again next Summer for our both sons. The commute was a hassle for us because we live in Manhattan. We hope to find more campers commuting from Manhattan next Summer so we can do carpool or a service.
This is an amazing camp. My two boys ages 12 and 9 absolutely loved it. This year they went for 5 weeks, next year they asked to go for the whole summer. They do amazing activities and the kids have a great time! I highly recommend this camp for any kid but especially if they love water!
I have nothing but the highest praise for Camp Maritime, and Elliott. My son attended two years ago for two weeks, and this year for 5. The activities they do are full of fun, and the counselors are kind and mindful. My son described it as my happy place. I cant wait for next year!are kind and
Our daughter attended Camp Maritime for two weeks in early July. From her first day at camp learning how to fly board to the first moment wake boarding that she stood up, she had an absolute blast! The activities were fun, she got to be outside in fair weather and learned CPR indoors in foul weather. She made new friends instantly among the campers in her group, and bonded with several counselors immediately. What a gem of an idea realized - Ive mentioned to many people in Manhattan that this camp exists and is amazing, and almost everyone is simply blown away that kids can do these sorts of activities a stones throw from the heart of NYC.Ill post further reviews after she returns from her next two weeks! Thank you for making this camp a reality, we will definitely return!
I’ve worked with camp maritimefor the last three as camp counselor. It wasn’t always perfect but i certainly learned a lot. i got a chance to work with with kids and play in the water all day. Elliot has been great teacher to me and all kids. Im glad i had this opportunity.if you love watersports i highly recommend Camp Maritime.
My grandson attended this camp for 2 weeks. Only if I knew what a great place this camp is, I would definitely signed him up for the entire summer. Big thanks to Elliot and his staff members for creating such a different experience. We will definitely be back next summer.
This camp was not a good fit for our family. While the activities & counselors are wonderful, the communication was very poor & confusing. Our son (7) came home with the worst sunburn of his life on the 2nd day & each day complained about bullying. He loved the activities but was upset each day because he felt the kids & some counselors were unkind to him. Each day when I picked him up from the bus service, most of the kids were not wearing masks on the bus and the kids spend a lot of time traveling to different places for the activities. Its a great concept for a camp & they have a lot of great equipment & talented coaches but they need to get it together with communication & planning. We wont repeat the experience.
Amazing experience! Our 7-year-old loved it! And this says a lot, as this was the fourth camp weve tried this summer. Camp Maritime was two thumbs up and by far our favorite.Registering was easy, our questions were answered promptly and thoroughly, the management had to do extra adjustments due to COVID and other unforeseen events - all of which they took in stride. The instructors were caring, passionate about what they do and developed a great rapport with kids. I personally loved not having to worry about preparing lunch every day.Initially planning on staying for one week, we ended up staying for three. Thank you Camp Maritime; keep doing what you are doing!
Best camp ever! We signed up for the two weeks and end up staying for a month. My kid had a chance to try a lot of new activities - scuba, sailing, surfing, windsurfing. Love it all, especially fishing. Very knowledgeable instructor, taught kids about marine animals behavior and fishing techniques.Food is excellent, never heard a complain from my picky eater.Eliot, director of the camp finds a time to discuss progress with the parents and work on the schedule of activities. We definitely coming back next year!
For the past 2 years , I have been a counselor at Camp Maritime. It is a water sports camp for children ages 6-16 and there are many activities for these kids such as kayaking, swimming, surfing, boating, wakeboarding and fishing! In my time working as a camp counselor for Elliot who is the brains behind the whole operation, I have experienced and learned so many new things. Elliot is an amazing manager and only wants the best for these children..and for them to have fun and learn new things! The kids love the camp. I’ve worked 2 years with the colleagues he has hired and I believe Elliot chooses all the right instructors and counselors carefully and makes sure we will keep the environment a fun one and a safe one for the children. Our camp has different activities that parents and guardians would love to see their kids participating in. We take many action shots that people love to see! We are constantly teaching new things whether it has to do with the sport, safety hazards, discipline , anything. We are all experienced and have our own special skills that help us as a team to create an amazing environment for our kids. I love working at Camp Maritime, and I love to engage with the children because they have such imaginations and also lots of knowledge. When Covid-19 Hit this year I didn’t think there would be a Camp Maritime! .. Now summer is already almost over and we have accomplished so much. I love being counselor at this camp.
My son Loved this camp! He went for 3 weeks this summer, but we are hoping to sign up for longer next year.He learned so much about water sports like kayaking, fishing, scuba diving (those were his favorite, but there are many more water activities). The instructors were knowledgeable, experienced, and patient. Besides water sports my son learned a lot about teamwork, following instructions, and helping others. He made wonderful friends not only with the kids, but with the staff as well. He wants to work in the camp when he is older 😀We are looking forward to coming back next year!
This is our second summer at Camp Maritime and both kids love it. Spending summer days kayaking, surfing, fishing, paddle boarding, swimming, exploring the beach, Motor boating, wake boarding —-has enabled them to enjoy the beauty of the bay and ocean around nyc, be exposed to many water sports that they wouldn’t have had a chance to normally do and develop a love for them. The counselors are great. The camp leadership had to quickly pivot this year due to covid. They have done so wonderfully - worked with me as a parent to ensure I feel my kids are safe & following proper protocols and yet the spirit of the camp hasn’t altered- it’s still fun. They’ve been flexible with transportation and gone above and beyond.Highly recommend camp maritime.
If you are looking to send your child on a water sport adventure this is the camp for you. Filled with a variety of fun activities, from surfing, to fishing, to kayaking all located in NYC your childs summer will be filled with memories on the water and not on their phones. All the counselors are extremely friendly and are willing to help with any difficulties on the water. This is surely a one of a kind camp!
This is the second year my teenage child has attended camp and he LOVES it! He has learned to surf, wakeboard, and sea kayak under their watch, and comes back exhausted and happy every day. The food (in non-Covid years) is prepared by hand and is hearty enough to feed a growing teen boy. SO much better than other camp experiences hes had in the city! Hard to believe that all this exists in just a short subway ride away.
Our son joined this camp for 3 weeks. This is the first year this camp is operating. The owners and staff are super nice and attentive, there is no question that would not be resolved professionally. For the activities; our boy learned: kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, boating, sailing, fishing, surfing and scuba diving. All this in 3 weeks. I wouldnt mind going to this camp myself. All in all he had a great time, said he wants to go back next year and I couldnt be happier with his enjoyment. I have no doubts that next year will be only better!
This is my second year at Camp Maritime and I really love it. Every counselor is fantastic and well knowledgeable on their field of expertise. Whether it was learning to wake board, surfing on the beach, kayaking in the bay, or even fishing in Coney Island, Camp Maritime is a place to get the most fun and excitement out of your summer!
My son went for two years. He learned SO much, made great friends and loved every minute!!!Staff members love what they do and are professional, caring and always prioritize safety first. My son learned crazy fun water experiences and skills to last a lifetime.Best camp ever!!!
Maritime Camp is the camp that kids look forward to going back to, before sending my twin boys to Maritime Day Camp Summer 2018, I was extremely concerned due to the unsavory experience I had with *NAME WITHHELD* Camp. The boys had food poisoning their third week, counselors who were kids themselves did nothing to stop the bullying and misbehavior of over excited boys. This summer that all changed, Maritime had extremely knowledgeable staff and provided support to the camp counselors if a situation had come up. To the best of my knowledge, Brooklyn finally has a day camp for kids that involves activities mainly reserved for those living in upscale communities that revolve around being on the water as a primary source of activity. The boys really enjoyed the food that was provided to them, I enjoyed being able to go to work knowing that my kids were in excellent hands. Happy Holidays and we look forward to seeing everyone in Summer ‘19.
This is by far, the best camp I have ever heard of and been to. I have only went to this camp for 2 weeks yet I have already learned kayaking, sailing, stand up paddle boarding, fishing, and boating. This camp was not only educational in terms of giving me new skills, it was also incredibly fun as all the kids here were ridiculously good friends along with all the counselors being very friendly. These were some of the two best weeks of my life and I hope to come back to this amazing camp next year!
A wonderful and knowledgeable staff,a jam packed summer filled with unique activities, semi educational trips and a great food menu makes Maritime the go-to camp for any family in Brooklyn. The kids absolutely loved their time there, so we agreed that as long as they keep their grades at B or above they can come back next summer. The results are remarkable, nephew Archie for the first time got 4 A’s and my niece Ellie went from doing mostly B’s with some A’s to straight A’s, 2 semesters in a row. We don’t know for certain if this is thanks to Maritime, all that can be said is Maritime is everything we were promised and more. Thanks again to wonderful staff and the kids cant wait to go back.
This will be our third year at Camp Maritime. Our son loves water sports, so there is no better place to spend his summer than at Camp Maritime. He enjoys surfing, swimming, scuba diving, boating, and fishing. This year he is hoping to waterski and wakeboard. He is looking forward to seeing and spending time with his friends.
Our kid went, and had a great time learning to kayak. Staff and management were caring and involved. He thought the lunches and snacks were good. The only issue he had was that there was (mandatory) downtime between activities. Above all he said hed definitely do it again next year.
Such an amazing opportunity for kids! The idea of this camp is priceless and was glad to be part of the first year. My son had a great experience while at the camp and enjoyed all he learned on and off the water. Would be great if they banned phones and tablets to encourage those users to get more involved.
The staff is always friendly and welcoming my daughter said she loves not only the camp and its activities but also the counselors. Elliot and his wife Polina are always there at camp working to ensure everything runs smoothly. My daughter was so grateful for Polina and the care that she provided. Wonderful ownership and management and my girl will be returning next year for sure!
My 6.5 year old son was the youngest last year but he did everything except scuba diving. You can see Phoenix plastered in almost every picture. Personally, I’m scared to send kids to sleep away camp , god knows what happens up there. At camp maritime, you don’t drive your kids hundreds of miles away. You do the following at camp maritime Surfing, sailing , scuba , windsurf., fishing and more. Safety and watersports all in Brooklyn - Best camp on earth In my opinion :).
First year with the best staff and owners who care about safety first and fun second. This is the camp that any water lover like myself should and would send their kid to, or tell someone about. Not only did I have fun interacting with the kids and keeping them safe - I learned new water sports, I just couldn’t resist :) I LOVE CAMP MARITIME and I’m looking forward to working with them again and seeing the returning kids for summer 2019!!!!!
Rob, the sailing instructor, is a guru! He has such a deep love of sailing, and loves to share his passion with all his students. It is incredibly rare for young people to have such an inspiring and exciting experience with sailing within the five boroughs. I highly recommend.
This place doesnt even cover half of everything it mentions. First of all, Scuba diving. Instead of them going your your own set to use and keep which they said was in the price of the whole camp. We stayed for 5 weeks and we went Scuba diving ONCE. Its was in a 4 foot deep pool. Second, you should send your child here if you want them to sit in a room with not much to do the majority of the day. This is the actual schedule: You come in the morning, sit around for about an hour. Then you eat breakfast and go back inside for another 45 to 60 minutes. After that you get ready for the pool and walk to it. You spend about 1 to 1 and a half hours there. Then you walk back, wait and hour to hour and half. Eat lunch, Then sit for another 30 minutes. Lastly, you do another activity for 1 to 2 hours and go home or wait longer. You do two activities a day. One time a pool and the other a activity that the counselors pick for you to do. When we do sit around, the bring out about 3 board games that only can have 3 people playing them so most people have nothing to do. The third reason that you shouldnt go is that camp maritime doesnt own its building. So people come in all the time that do not have anything to do with the camp. I think this is very unsafe as ANYONE can come in. There is also lots of bullying there, and if you tell a conselor, they do not care at all and do absolutely nothing. The most they would do is tell them to stop and thats it. Within five minutes the bullying starts again and the whole process repeats. I also noticed that the lifeguards are on their phones constantly looking up at the pool every 5 minutes. I really do not think this camp is good because of the hours that we sit around with not many things to do, bullying, public spaces, incorrect statements about all their activities, not caring staff, and unaware lifeguards.
My daughters first year in this Camp, she immediately took a liking once she saw them at a camp fair. A very fun camp, staff are extremely friendly, she loves it, she learned about Kayaking and her and the instructor both informed me that she did not fall out once. This camp instills confidence in them. Instructors are trained and reassure the kids safety are met. I to felt a bit uncomfortable, the owners are wonderful and informed me that safety for the children was priority!*My daughter is to the far left, holding the Surf Board*

2021-11-05My daughter had her second stint with Camp Maritime this past summer and practically begged for more! Elliot and the crew do an amazing job of instilling in the kids the excitement and joy of being out on the water, participating in a myriad of water sports throughout the program. She’s already looking forward to her return next summer!

2021-09-05My daughter went to campMaritime this summer where she spent 2 amazingly fun weeks! she was surfing most of the time as her intention was to pick up initial knowledge and experience. During those two weeks she simply fell in love with the surfing 🌊🌊🌊 The instructor did all his best to teach her doing that and they both reached their goal! Now we are considering to continue taking surf classes. The camp provided transportation and snacks. Overall we are happy with their service and approach to the kids safety. We definitely will come back next season!

2021-08-22My daughter just finished a week of this camp for the second year. She came home excited and exhausted everyday! She enjoyed the variety of adventures and tried to guess what the day’s activity would be. This year the stories of tubing (and wiping out) are on repeat! She had a great time and highly recommends this camp to all water lovers! As a parent, I would like to see more pictures but I do understand that they are too busy having fun!

2021-08-18Awesome camp! Both my kids tried so many new things and made friends. The counselors work hard and are great with the kids. They spent all day outside at the water and were happy and tired at the end of the day. Well be back! Highly recommend.

2020-08-12Thank you Camp Maritime for bringing joy to my son after an especially difficult period of remote schooling and pandemic life. Its brilliant to see him looking forward to his days fishing, wake boarding, surfing and being active all day outside. Hats off to you Elliot and the counselors for making these water sports and the ocean accessible to our city kids.

2020-09-11My son is 10 years old and had the best summer experience at this amazing camp. He go to do what he loves most and go fishing. He was able to learn new skills such as surfing, wake boarding and skim boarding which would be hard to introduce him to without this camp. Truly a great experience. We were going to only do a few weeks since we only learned of the camp in August but he ended up begging me to go for the extended weeks and came home happy every single day. Thank you to the amazing counselors and everyone for making his summer incredible. I highly recommend this camp for any kid who wants to enjoy summer break to the fullest.

2018-07-30This camp is brand new, and I was really worried signing my son up for it. But Eliot and Polina made me feel comfortable, and after the orientation both me and my son were psyched. It is so different from other camps that just take kids on trips to arcades and nothing more... kids learn actual skills, sailing, fishing, kayaking, surfing...and all are taught by certified instructors. I was pleasantly impressed that the owner checks the weather and marine forecast each day and if water conditions are not favorable, kids do something else. My son only went for half a summer, and we could not extend because they were full; but next year hopefully we will sign up for the full summer! And yes. That is a shark my son caught, tagged and released.
