A very busy market in the heart of Chinatown. Half of the space is occupied by an eclectic selection of popular NYC food vendors. The other half is populated by small businesses offering their products in a pop up fashion. It can get a little overwhelming in this market due to the crowds, but it worth experiencing since they do offer good products and services.
Canal as a lot to offer from like vegetable market, the small shops and of course restaurants. It is very colourful with decorations across some streets. For the most part the street vendors are courteous and respectful. The Asian restaurant that we visited was decent and the staff was friendly. This was an overall pleasant visit.
One the many reasons I go to Canal Street/China town is to eat great food! From the best dimsum to Chinese noodle soups... etc., you could find it in this very diverse town. The Canal Market food is just one of the places to eat. This place is worth checking out and enjoy food from, Japanese, Mediterranean, bubble teas, and etc!!! In-expensive food in a clean and spacious area. They have ample tables and chairs for dine in. Accessible to subways. This place can be very crowded so be patient. Happy eating❤️!
I have been enjoying this space since it’s opening. You can find here plenty of fun food options, coffee shop, bubble tea shop, local radio station, places to hang out and plenty of creative goods to purchase. I stop there often for gifts. Must visit when you are on Canal Street.
Pretty much its an open marketing spanning several blocks along Canal street in Chinatown NY. If youre been in Saigon, area around Ben Than market - in Manhattan. Fake goods, bargaining, reputable dealers, street food, seafood market - its all here. If youre worry about safety - visit before 5 -6 PM. But I dont think it is a problem - yes, past midnight the market is over, you can see some shady staff, but going to dinning is perfectly ok. Of course, YMMV.
It feels barren due to the pandemic, but it used to be insanely crowded that it made me feel uncomfortable. Also theres this sit in area that feels somewhat of a security pass through, which now I understood was just the NYC vaccination card protocol. Other than that, nothing really special as the food places in this food court seem half empty.
Havent been to NY in awhile since covid hit. but I understand theres a virus going on, but come on if I purchased food from you guys I cant even use the bathroom or sit down. I have my vaccinations but didnt have the card on me but If you Wana sit down to eat in there you need your vaccination card and a mask present and to use their restroom they need to see your license and vaccination card before using their facility. Get over yourselves. Food was ok but wont come back here.
I randomly walked into the market just looking for something to do honestly but what caught me from the street was the art easily seen from the window and the delicious smells. I immediately migrated to the shops with all the colors and interactive options. There were some really cute stores with toys and puzzles Id definitely revisit but I left with skincare from the only Black Owned brand I spotted that day (not sure if theres more on other days) called With Love, Franny. And a candle from Commonwealth Provisions whos scent I instantly fell in love with. Id go here for a birthday/housewarming gift or just something for myself to get an item thats most likely handcrafted and have the option to speak directly to the business owner of the individual shops.
A great indoor space on canal street. Spacious seating, clean restrooms, and a nice variety of foods and boutique shopping areas to peruse. The samurice spot was okay-okay... decent portions but the “fried chicken” was just microwaved chicken pieces dipped in a sauce. I’d come back and try another place.
This review is only behalf on the food stalls. Only three food stalls are open in this market which makes the choices very limited and I have no clue if the other stalls are going to reopen at one point because if theyre not, might as well put in another food chain inside the market.
Food review only ahead! The food court at the Canal Street Marketplace just recently opened and got to check it out. The place is brand spanking new so its clean and pretty hipster. I wanted to try the ramen, which is by ippudo, but going to save that for a colder day. There were a number of other fast casual oriented choices with a seating area in the back. Ended up at Oppa, the Korean barbecue place. Basically, its bulgogi beef, spicy pork, sesame chicken (no, not the breaded and fried Chinese version), or tofu in your choice of burrito, rice bowl, salad, or mini tacos format. I went with mini tacos since theyre sold individually and I could try all the different meats. They all come with some combination of chopped lettuce, kimchee, carrots, tomatoes, and sauces. Heres the kick - as any true Korean BBQ lover knows, KBBQ is best when the meat gets a little char on it, caramelizing the sugars to add a sweet taste. Oppa flame torches the pre-cooked meat right before serving it to you, imparting the goodness of Maillard reaction! Genius! I thought the blowtorch would leave a fuel smell, but not here. Note to the wise, the mini tacos (soft corn tortilla) do not travel well because of all the juiciness - eat it there if possible. Otherwise, expect a bit of a mess. Basically, the sauces make the whole thing taste pretty good. Of the three, I would have to say that the spicy pork was the best. It had a nice heat without being overwhelming. The kimchee was actually pretty decent for not-homemade. The staff was hustling and grooving to keep the line moving. The one guy who torches all the meats was clearly working quickly but he was paying attention, so props to him. Plus the food is served in a container that claims to be fully compostable! All in all, definitely warrants a return visit.
Our family came here on tour with “Thermo Sage” this place is full of “trial” stores - testing the market. Also small podcasters can rent space to start their own podcast. They have great coffee!!! And Joe’s steam rolls location here (also location in flushing queens Chinatown). Bathrooms available here too! As well as place to sit inside!
My dad and I had a free Saturday so we spent it exploring the new Canal Street Market. I think we tried every food vender from the Oppa (kbbq) to Davey’s Ice cream. I absolutely love the food hall craze, it’s a great way to try a bunch of really awesome food you normally wouldn’t get a chance to try. They also have some pretty cool non food vendors making it a perfect way to spend a Saturday.
Canal Street Markets is on this ugly and busy strip filled constantly blocked with traffic and crowded with counterfeit sellers, cheap souvenirs comes a refreshing London/Brooklyn inspired markets with independent designer goods and hipster food hall. Relived to see this neighborhood transforming - there is much potential with good food and design leading the way!
What a delight to find this place. I almost walked past as it is not overly obvious that there is anything inside. So glad my wife looked inside. We ate at Box Fresh Mediterranean and the food was fantastic.I had the lamb rice bowl which was good. However, my wife had the duck rice bowl, and it blew me away. Fresh flavors and a perfect sauce. This is a must!
I accidentally stumbled upon Canal Street Market on recent trip to New York City. There is a wide range of shopping and dining options at all budgets. I ended up ordered some tacos from a Koream-Mexican fusion restaurant. The service was fast, and the tacos were pretty good. I do wish there were spicy options for the taco toppings. Outside of the tacos, there was a wide range of fusion options such as burritos, bowls, and quesadillas.
Canal Street market is a really welcome addition to this part of town. The food vendors are unique and interesting - lots of Asian food but also Mediterranean (ilili) and salads. Its not overwhelmingly large, and its clean and easy to navigate. The ramen is really delicious as is the lamb rice bowl at ilili box. Save room for Daveys ice cream. They have a lot of interesting flavors such as black sesame.
The street is usually crowded but you get very good deals here. Make sure to bargain because prices can always be lowered!! Don’t be shy to ask for whatever brand you want cause sometimes they don’t have it out on display but put away. The prices are pretty good and some vendors have top quality merchandise.
Love this place! We came here strictly for Joes Steamed Rice Noodle and found this gem! This place offered a variety of local asian eats from Japanese to Korean to Cantonese. Its a great place to grab lunch and walk next door to the attached local artists/gallery.The gallery had an area for students to showcase their creative furniture (not sure if it was for sale or not) and another area for local. There was also an area with a DJ and even a sweets shop in there!Definitely a cute and unique place to bring a date to on a weekend afternoon :)!
You buy? Cheap. For you. Good price. Am I lying? You got to love Canal Street and all the beautiful people there.. So I was looking for trinkets and fashion jewelry for a 70s party I was going to because, you know, the devil is in the details... and I found everything thing I needed to complete my look. Oh yea and theres the best place to get all your body jewelry around there called Unimax.. I would add a picture but Ill save those for social media. Canal NY.. For you.. good price!
Crowded at times but it has a great selection of random things. They have a nice selection of food on one side that I frequently visit. It’s not overwhelming, just a nice good amount of options for all types of eaters. The other side has a cafe and vendors with interesting items. If you’re a tourist, they have great souvenirs. Even for locals, they have cool things. There’s something for everyone at Canal Market!
Small variety of items here. All the shops themselves taste amazing but this place doesnt quite fit into the general vibes of Chinatown. The food here is more expensive, sometimes double the price of stuff you can get outside. Its also always pretty crowded here so it usually takes me a while to get my food whenever I eat here
Hip place to check mainly Asian fusion foods . Pricey but worth the check out. If you come during Friday or weekends it is super crowded . Its layout is good court style. Definitely recommend the boba guys for bubble tea. Interesting flavors. The rice noodle roll is tasty and offer a myriad of protein options.
Fantastic food hall with something for everyone. Delicious bowls, salads, teas, and more. I come here frequently for lunch and particularly enjoy Azumma. I love their tacos, bowls and burritos. The market is always clean and welcoming. There are cool boutique pop-ups on the other side of the food hall. Definitely worth popping by. Enjoy!
Hope that this place survives the pandemic. They do not currently open on sundays due to lack of foot traffic on the weekends. They got a famous rice roll place, pizza, bento, etc. So conveniently located. Some may argue that its a bit pricey since its so close to chinatown, but then again, so much have closed down in chinatown that this had become worth it. Come visit!
Nice place to grab a quick bite or grab a coffee/boba. Seating is limited and can get crowded, especially later in the evening but I still say worth a visit. Seems to be more catered towards food than shopping. There isnt a huge assortment of shops but the ones there sell lovely items and its fun to browse.
This is a very small market compared to Chelsea and even Essex. Having been to all 3, I loved the collection of the non-food stalls here! I liked 90% of the stuff they were selling across the stalls, compared to Chelsea where it has a wider range but wasn’t all’s interesting to me.
A very trendy and modern spot to check out! Theres so many different food options in there including rice rolls, shaved ice, bubble tea and more. Theres a good amount of seating in the back. And there are even little flea shops connected to the restaurants on the other side. Definitely worth checking out for anyone in the Chinatown area!
This place is yummy with lots of good selections! Japanese curry, ramen, boba, iced desserts, and rice rolls! Definitely check it out and the little shopping area next to it the next time you pass!Be careful that it does fill up fast during eating times as their space at the back is not too big.
Beautiful, bustling, and alive. If youre not worried about seating, definitely swing by for some quick bites and to take a gander at this establishment. Its a very cozy little market, and once I found seating with my friends, it was great to just sit and relax while sipping on some bubble tea from Boba Guys. I highly recommend this place as a pit stop.
A trendy-looking, cool, new space space with lots of good Asian food vendors. I usually go for the rice rolls. A good amount of seating is available on site. There are also other, non-food, vendors on the opposite side of the building, but I haven’t checked those out yet, so I can’t say anything about that. Definitely worth checking out.
Great place with a Variety of Asian foods. Easy to see right off of Canal Street. Parking on the street is available but it fills up fast especially on the weekends and at night. Public Restrooms. Clean facilities with a wheelchair accessible entrance. Plenty of families inside. Reasonably priced. We will definitely be going back.
Awesome market with one half full of little assorted shops and the other half full of food options, mostly East Asian cuisines and a Mediterranean option. Theres Japanese shaved ice, bubble tea, bento boxes, pho, and more! The interior is full of trendy decorations and hued lighting. I have to be gluten free and it wasnt the most difficult task to find good options here, which my other gluten free buddies will know is better than we can expect sometimes. This market is not even a minute walk from the 6 line!
We stumbled on this gem looking for another place. Think mall food court done with quality food options. If you like to linger to take in all the options then avoid lunch rush hour at noon. Otherwise order quickly in a New York minute. Each vendor was inviting and engaging as we looked at all options. Some offered tasting. Since we are still in the real estate strain of NYC seating options are bleachers or snugly positioned high tables and stools. They scored points for coat hooks under the table. At a quick walk-by glance the shopping options looked unique. Id visit again. Sorry no pics.
In it for Boba Guys and sometimes the restroom. I wish I can give this a 5 star but I cant since the restroom is very dirty. I also did not tried the other stalls yet but Daveys Ice Cream and Lukes Lobster was wonderful. Not a bad hangout spot and they have power outlets for you to plug in your charger too. Pretty awesome vibe with some light shopping stalls in the next room
We visited the canal street market during lunch time. It was very busy and it was hard to find some seating. We loved the place. The selection of food was great and the quality was very good. The staff was very friendly and the service was fast. The small shopping in the other side of the building was great and we found some very unique things.Great experience!!
Cool artsy vendors in a huge space. Awesome quick food selection here. My favorite smoothies are by Office Coffee here, there is good seating area in the very back to hang out in with friends. Its also a good place to pop in to use the bathroom real quick without needing to buy anything on busy Canal street!
Really awesome place with a trendy vibe, they have Boba Guys (from SF) which I really enjoyed. In addition to that they have some great snack/food selections. The shopping side or the small little boutiques are really truly overpriced even though they have some nice items. The Market is a little bit hidden if you dont know where youre going. Overall a must see!
Fun spot to try several different Asian spots, including good Korean rice bowls, Japanese curry, shaved ice, and bubble tea. A few interesting stores with trinkets and apparel as well as a coffee shop. Worth checking out once or stopping in for a snack if in the area!
Everyone needs to visit this place specially if theyre the type that wants to support local businesses and trends. Inside theres a community parlor where people just chill and relax which allows you to meet and mingle with other people youve never met.The atmosphere was great and the place was aesthetically quite pleasing. Only thing was the wifi but I barely noticed how slow it was.
I like the energy of this market. Sometimes its hard to find a spot to sit though. There are some amazing options for food and drinks. I would shop around first in the artist market next door and then grab a bite afterwards. It can get pretty crazy packed in there so I prefer to go during off hours.
Lovely market with lots of delicious, mostly asian options! saw some japanese ramen, korean-mexican fusion dishes, boba, etc. we had chinese crepes with shrimp- very long wait but it was so delicious it was worth it. we went during saturday lunchtime so it was super packed.
This place is awesome! Has some really great food options inside. It has a retail market on one side and lots of good food options on the opposing side. The retail market has a lot of cool small boutique like places selling things from vintage clothes to knick knacks. You are even able to buy bonsai trees at this joint called the Dandy Farmer. The food hall on the other side has about ten different food options. Lots of good Asian inspired food there. Also has delicious smoothies at office coffee, amazing salads at fresh&co and a great mix up or Korean and Mexican food at Azumma.
Fun spot to try several different Asian spots, including good Korean rice bowls, Japanese curry, shaved ice, and bubble tea. A few interesting stores with trinkets and apparel as well as a coffee shop. Worth checking out once or stopping in for a snack if in the area!
This place is really fun to stop in for lots of delish and trendy food options. I recommend trying the Boba, Mission Ceviche if you like seafood and the ice cream. Can’t go wrong with the food options and the fun decor.Next door,is an open walkway conjoining the food side to the artsy side. The vendor side is fun for shopping unique pieces of jewelry, kitsch items or clothing, but be wary that it can be quite pricey. These are real artists and tradespeople putting everything into their pieces. Hence the heavier price tag.
I dont really know how to feel about this place. On one hand, the food stalls all seem worth a visit, the other shops have a variety of interesting doodads, and the atmosphere is trendy and upscale. On the other hand, the blatant gentrification of the space makes me uncomfortable and makes the market feel like a tumor invading the more humble shops along Canal. There is a very narrow clientele that can afford the pricey floral arrangements and bonsais, hand-poured scented candles and uniquely crafted jewelry, dinnerware that doesnt stack, and mixology kits you cant reuse. That narrow clientele seems less like anyone from Chinatown and more like those who would come for an ethnic experience, but not too far out of their bourgeois bubble.
Boba guys is now rebranded Lazy Sundaes. You have to scan a QR code to order as they dont take orders in person. The seating area in the back is also open now too with covid precautions in place. Attendants take your tempt and you have to write your info down for contact tracing. Love going here to support the local stands.
A great option on Canal St to grab a bite. Several good choices of foods not necessarily Chinese even though it is so close to Chinatown. Be careful to to miss it from the street (as I did many times before I looked for it) closes early, around 8 pm.Good food ! Great price.
Nice place to go shopping for groceries or to get a bite to eat. I like to go through this area because a lot of the foods are generally pretty cheap which helps when youre surrounded by expensive shopping or restaurants. Some of the staff that I spoke with seemed very pleasant as well. I definitely recommend this place to tourists for the interesting aspects, and to native NYers for the prices.
Bonsai Kakigori has wonderful shaved ice, which is topped with whipped cream that is so fluffy and light. That also describes the dessert as well. Its definitely not a winter treat, let me tell you. There are other places to eat here, including pizza, Japanese curry, and Japanese/Filipino food (Lost), but I havent eaten at those places. Bonsai Kakigori is good, and I know that because Ive tried it multiple times.
What can I say about Canal Street market it’s excellent. They have like the best food there and like I took my girlfriend there is she really loved it. It’s a very good market to bring friends family anyone. I should just you to bring your family anybody that you know you could bring the W a really good experience for them OK bye
I went to a Chinese food stall that had fresh steamed rice noodles with shrimp or pork with scallions and egg. It comes plain and then you pour a rich sweet soy sauce on top and slurp it down. It was a solid meal, i have never tried anything like it before, and would eat it again as a regular lunch or dinner food if i lived in the area. It is a very crowded “curated” food hall with a variety of ethnic food choices of up and coming chefs or great chefs with good ideas. I understand that the food stalls change on a rotating basis so they may be something new whenever you go. There is one stall that sells “boba”tea. There are very long lines. Hate to say it, but my thai ice tea was the best i ever had. Get your milk tea and boba drinks here
Have one proven Kimi’s shop on 259B Canal St, where I have been going for many years when I need something for my phone or iPod. Protective glass, cover or power cord - somehow they work much longer than the same (or at least similar ...) and bought elsewhere ... Similarly, all post-warranty repairs - from displays, batteries to speakers, buttons or plug power supply - everything is done on the spot, in front of the owner ...
Kind of a cute contemporary market, with some tasty (if expensive) food options. Sure beats going out to Flushing for Joes Steamed Rice Roll (cheung fun), or all the way to San Francisco (Boba Guys). That does seem like thin justification for 4*, but they do deserve credit for such a solid selection of businesses.
I like the concept and all the purveyors/vendors that share the space. Some great food options, as well as crafty/artsy/kitchy stuff... my fav being the flower stand by Fox Fodder Farm, where theres a stem bar and a nice person who help whip up bouquets and arrangements on the spot. Super cute.
Came in to get a drink from Boba Guys. Tried the strawberry matcha latte. There are also a bunch of other stalls with different types of food, but not a lot of seating, more standing tables and countertops. If you go towards the back, there are some seats and small low tables. Would definitely come back to check out the other food options. Theres also another side that has jewelry and clothing being sold.
The Canal st. Market is a great place to shop local, small vendors and grab mostly Japanese-style food and snacks. Personally I usually drop by here for Boba Guys, which occasionally miss after moving to NYC from the San Francisco Bay Area. Lines can be long during peak times, bring a friend!
Popped into Canal St Market to grab a bite, and damn there is a beautiful selection of food to try. I went with Azumma....where traditional Korean meets fresh Mexican......multiple ways to have their food and choices of 2 rices and 3 proteins plus toppings. I picked the rice bowl with purple rice (hearty wild rice) with soy-garlic chicken as the protein. The 2 toppings were Japchae ( sweet potato noodle w vegetables) & Pico de Gallo all topped with avocado sauce. Everything was fresh, hot and totally delicious.... i believe its my first time having purple rice and I Love It !!!! All the ingredients mixed well and made for a thoroughly enjoyable meal....cant wait to come back and try the pork, supposedly its got some kick🔥🔥🔥yeah baby#meecheatsny #azumma #chinatownfood #canalstreetmarket#canalstreet#timeout
Truly my main reason for coming here is for Boba Guys, you can never go wrong with the strawberry matcha latte w/oat milk it is hands down the best bubble tea drink Ive ever had.Fyi: if you use Samsung pay, apple pay, or Google pay, on a tuesday this location has something called Tappy Tuesdays which lands you a discount.
This place is terrible. I go all the time but just not a place you must go to if you are visiting New York. Try the Peruvian chicken bowl, its amazing. Lukes lobster in the back has a chowder bowl thats perfect for snowy days, or you could just get ramen like a regular person.

2022-05-25Stopped by for some quick shopping while on my way to Canal St, Chinatown, and Little Italy. There were many small boutique shops selling everything from clothing, house decorations, flowers, jewelry, sunglasses, etc...It was fun just browsing and supporting these small merchants. After shopping, stopped by the Dreamers Coffee shop for a quick drink before heading out to Canal Street.

2022-05-11Its a trendy and cute market with nice vendors, a boba place and some food options. Wish they had more food variety, some places might have closed down during the pandemic! The interior ir trendy and there are 3 seating areas, one of them for eating and 2 of them just for chilling.

2022-07-03Awesome new space with food court on one side and a rotating artists and vendors on the other side. The space was clean and all the food looked great. The vendors had a variety of things from art , clothes and soy candles. The prices seemed reasonable for both food and the artist vendors. Theres space in the back on both sides to sit and eat.

2022-02-19Food and service were outstanding! Took my kids yesterday for dinner and we sat outside. We all had fusion bowls that were delicious...my son ordered a lamb dish, then saw the rest of our fusion bowls and ordered that too. Empanadas were so good (we got 2 each of the chicken, curry, and black bean) and went fast! We will most definitely will be back again.

2022-05-21The souvenir shops and vendors on the street are the same as I remember them when I was a little kid.All the typical knick knacks and souvenirs you can imagine - you will find. It borders of Chinatown and you can always find the best deals to purchase what you are looking for.

2022-06-20Kind of one of those places that look really cool online because people post photos that make it seem unique or this one thing is really cool in it, but when you actually visit in person its underwhelming compared to expectations. Still, the novelty of visiting a new place made the experience decent! A if-youre-in-the-area type of thing, imo. There are about a dozen-ish of each food stalls and local artist shops. Like many local artist/handmade artisan goods (with good reason), I thought the items were quite expensive (to my mass-produced consumerism-tainted self). But browsing the items is still a fun thing to stop by to do! I ended up getting an adorable pair of earrings by the end.

2018-08-10Trendy and simple decor with a range of small shops selling food. Some produce and goods sold next door.Place is clean. Not much seating, only some space at the back. It is a good place to grab lunch to go.The food choices are quite pricey for the portions.

2019-04-10You can find the best fruit ever!!! The side street vendors offer the freshest and largest variety of fruits I have ever seen. Bring cash to get the best deals! Tons of jewelry, watches, sunglasses, hats and scarfs. A great place to barter! Never pay high prices.

2018-10-13FUN, HIP, and LIVELY...I love the idea of the place, with it having local sellers, you can find some really cool stuff, gift ideas. There are spots to chill, sit around and enjoy coffee or bubble tea.Theres a food court/alley with variety of choices. Poke bowls and the ramen booth are good, other booths also offer interesting choices but not all of it are good - the rice plate that I had with the purple rice is somewhat mediocre but can be improved. The shaved ice dessert tho, its surprisingly good! Its light, sweet and dreamy. Its good if youre on a diet.If they would have more booths of different stuff it would be so much nicer, plus maybe a live band and more seats and table.
