Canales Restaurant in other cities:
What a great find in Oswego! These folks are so helpful and considerate with their large orders and delivery. I call on them every time I come to town for work at NMP when the boss has me order in for a special lunch (and dinner for night shift). The food is absolutely delicious and the variety makes everyone happy. Thank you Canales for making us feel like locals!
We ordered chicken riggies and we got plain dried out Riggies. A salad that had 90% celery and onions on it. Italian dressing was nothing more than olive oil and vinegar. Meatballs were tough and dried out. Im sure the owner will read this and give the typical response of thank you for your review, we depend on them to make things better and well let the staff know. Hopefully your next visit will be better. Obviously that isnt working.. save your breath, we will never return. I couldve made that meal for $30.
Sorry but gotta be honest after paying 80 bucks for 2 people you would think quality check before it leaves the store. I got burnt bruccetta like bricks cant even bite into it , and a piece of sausage that was so dried out and hard a fork wouldnt pierce it. Over salted chicken parm. Rendered the whole thing in edible but because we ordered through fooffetched no refund never again
Charming restaurant atmosphere, friendly staff but a not so great lunch. Bread served was cold, Calamari appetizer was good, and ordered the steak Caesar salad with medium rare steak... The salad was presented well, but the steak was over done and very dry, and the Caesar salad dressing was pretty much watery soup which wilted all the lettuce. Couldn’t finish eating. Perhaps Canale’s is better known for their pastas and pizzas.
Should be ashamed to call yourself a fine Italian restaurant and fail epicly on the chicken riggies dish. What a dissapointment, kinda makes me think they can just serve whatever under the disguise of a Italian restaurant and take your hard earned money. Especially for a dish like chicken riggies which is local to our area..it had no flavor , no spice, very very dry when its suppose to be creamy and it was missing onions and banana peppers..very very bland so Im not even going to call it chicken riggies more like chicken rip off...its sad when the best part of the meal was bread and butter
First off, dont expect authentic italian. The food tastes alright yeah, but the portions are laughable. This is what 10 dollars of calamari and a 6 dollar caeser salad looks like. I thought just their catering ripped you off but it looks like their regular orders do too. And to top it all off the croutons are stale
We order a lot and the last 4 times something has been wrong with our order. The last 3 times I ordered a pizza the pizza came with the cheese slid off the side e Ed C S Ed. Last night I ordered a salad with shrimp, I told the man on the phone it was to feed 3 people he said to get the salad for 2. It was hardly big enough for 2 much less 3. The salad and a order of fried clams came to $40 I think that was a bit high for that. It wasn’t worth calling about because the last time I did about the pizza they gave me a free one and it came burnt. I’m really disappointed in them. They used to be a great restaurant. I think it will be a while before we go again.
We had white clam sauce with linguine. A very few chopped up clams on top with hardly any flavor and the sauce had barely any clam flavor whatsoever. It was melted butter mixed with a very diluted clam broth. No garlic nor any other seasoning. With a basic salad, with lettuce, onion, a piece of tomatoe and cut up celery. Topped with ( balsamic?) vinegar and a little crumbles of blue cheese and a bowl of so- so minestrone soup. Our Granddaughter had a chicken strip kids meal . With three soft drinks (no refils) the meal came to $90.00 including the tip for our waitress who was very attentive and polite. 1st time eating there as we were in Oswego on business and decided to go there because of a rating on line. Not at all good.
I’m not from New York so I don’t know what qualifies as good pizza, but the pre made cardboard pizza from Walmart beats Canales over cheesed extremely doughy flavorless subway flatbread. The mozzarella sticks must have been fried in the oil from when the restaurant opened. The bruschetta was ok but it seemed to have been made on frozen French bread.Simply put the food was awful. And it was $47 and they wanted a tip on takeout. It really stinks when you’re looking forward to a good meal that you spent good money on and it’s horrible. If I were back home the wife and I could have had a phenomenal steak dinner at Salt Grass for that price or a little more.I think people will leave good reviews for bad restaurants because they are afraid of hurting a business rather than realizing that bad reviews should actually be used to improve the restaurant.
Food was delicious. Bread came out right away with plenty of butter. Server was very friendly and made some great suggestions; she knew the menu pretty well and was helpful when we placed orders. Soup was hot. Pasta was cooked just right. Sauce was very good as well; definitely tasted home made. Chicken parm was good as well. There was outdoor seating with music. We sat indoors and the sound did not penetrate the walls; we only heard it when the door opened. Bathrooms were clean Nd the dining area was well maintained. We were not rushed out when the food was finished as many places tend to do.Everything was very good.
Just about the best Italian food around. Terrific spot for lunch, never have to wait for a table. Slightly longer waits at dinner time but always worth it. The service is always great and Ive never had a bad meal there - especially love the black and bleu pasta and the pizzas are amazing! Recently ordered delivery during peak dinner hours and the food arrived hot & fresh 10 minutes sooner than the estimated delivery time, I was very impressed!
Took my mom and aunt here for brunch. We were all blown away by how nice the seating area was set up and the arrangement of foods. Food was all delicious and service staff was friendly. They even went out of their way to get me butter and jelly for my pancake! Great experience.
Canales has been in Oswego for more than 50 years. You can even find their trademark sauce at the local Big M. They have HUGE meatballs! They always add new things to the menu. Honestly the best wings I have ever had. My girlfriend and I recently went there. Sat outside in their beautiful flower adorned COVID-19 approved seating. Our waitress was very helpful. We had a three course meal for under $50. I was surprised at how fresh everything was and how reasonable the price ended up being. We could have easily spent $100 for the same food at another restaurant.
Very busy place! We didnt have reservations, but they were able to seat us in the upstairs dining area, which was very quaint and much quieter than the normal dining. Our servor was fantastic, very friendly and offered recommendations. Extensive beer and wine menu. The regular menu is also full of options, with many dinner specials included. The pasta chip nacho appetizer was delicious. I had the vegetable lasagna, it was good. I would like to go back and try their meatballs as I have heard great things about them.
We started coming here 30 years ago when my wife was a student at Oswego State. We still make the 1 hour drive for birthdays and other special events. Awesome food and reasonable prices. Just keep in mind entree prices do not include a salad. The Rigatoni Fixed is so delicious. Always quick and friendly service.
I called in a order for antipasto for 2 with onion on the side because Im allergic to onions. The person who took the order asked if i wanted the 13 or 27 dollar salad. I said antipasto for 2. Which is on their menu. Also, ordered shrimp scampi. When I picked yp my order i checked the salad and it had onions on the salad. I went back inside and told them the salad had onion on it. They made me another salad. So, this 27 dollar salad only had extra 2 pieces of ham and salami. Otherwise it was the same size ans the 13 dollar salad.I know this because I was a former employee there many years ago. I never checked my shrimp scampi till I was home. The scampi was about 10 pieces of shrimp in butter sauce and nothing else. That was 25 dollars. Lost me a a customer. VERY Disappointed 😞
Good service and food. My favorite is the spinach salad: a large plate full of perfect fresh spinach, lots of large mushrooms, onions and parmesan, tied in a lite dressing that was refreshing and not overly vinegary or sugary. Very satisfying. Also love the eggplant parmesan, crispy and well seasoned with their slow cooked sauce.
We just ate here for the first time. I had the baked ziti with meatballs and my wife had the penne vodka. The food was excellent. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was clean. Great authentic Italian food in a very nice environment. Would definitely recommend.
The stuffed peppers are absolutely delicious... just like my Grandma used to make, God rest her soul. Waitstaff is friendly and accommodating, and the restaurant has a great ambiance. One minor gripe... an Italian restaurant without clams casino on the menu? Really?!Seriously though, not a bad dish on the menu!
I ordered from canales a few weeks ago, $20 worth of just spaghetti plus delivery fees. The new delivery driver put my food out on the sidewalk because while ordering online I wanted contactless delivery and that means leave it outside my door. Living in downtown of Oswego outside my apartment building is the sidewalk. So someone stole my food after I already waited 2 hours and calling twice, which I also never got a call from the driver trying to find out where my door actually is. THEN the manager Julissa perceives to tell me that it was my fault for saying to leave it outside the door. IM SORRY that YOUR WEBSITE automatically leaves that as the note for the driver for your contactless delivery. I have ordered from many other places in Oswego and not a single one of them have ever given me such HORRIBLE SERVICE AND TERRIBLE ATTITUDE, plus Ive never NOT received my food before. So I will never be ordering from them again and wish I could give them less than one star. Ill never waste my money at Canales ever again, I would rather order Dominoes than Canales. They would make sure I received my food
A family restaurant that shows everyone how family should be treatedInviting atmosphere w outdoor dining availablePlate size options, are a great food and money saver if need beAll around a great experience, w quality food and genuine peopleWe will return regularly to enjoy the Canale family experience
We have been going to Canales in Oswego for over 50 yrs. Our kids grew up on Canales spaghetti and meatballs and now our Grandkids are enjoying all of Canales Italian goodies! We love everything about Canales the atmosphere the waitstaff and especially the food. We like that we can always get our favoritesThat theyve never changedHowever something is different about your house Italian dressing the last 3 times we have gotten it, it has been way too vinegary!!We were dissappointed as we love Canales salad and house dressing. Has someone new been making the dressing?Did you change the recipe? Please go back to your regular receipt. One of the reasons we love Canales is most things never change!
Love this place! Its an historic piece of Oswego, NY. Beautifully updated with both cafe seating and a gorgeous brick courtyard, they often have live music softly accompanying your dining experience. The staff is friendly, courteous, capable and timely as you desire your experience to be. Great food, true authentic Italian style.
I love the food, fish italiano, puzza was delicious!! I ordered on line and i had to pay cash when delivered even though I had used my credit card on slice. Not happy. I hope the customer service will refund my card. 24 to 48hrs they told me. My online order experience was feeling untrustworthy.
Canales has been one of the most recommended restaurants since I moved to Oswego just over half a year ago.Ill start with the feel of this restaurant; when I walked in the decor gave me a mid to late 1900s vide, it seems a bit out dated decor wise. The staff is friendly and attentive, not being to in your face asking questions but not just gone and no where to be found. This was a very good experience. The food; I started out with a small salad, its always a plus to see that they offer iceberg lettuce and romaine. Its also a plus that they have a house dressing that they not only make in house but you can buy it in many stores around town. My main course was the Homade Gnocchi with the maranara sauce witch is also homemade. The food is amazing! The sauce was indescribably good! And you hardly see homemade gnocchi anywhere these days!Only thing I would do is update the decor and add a presto! Great job Canales!
We were vacationing in the area so it might have just been a bad day but they screwed up our take out order in multiple ways. Ended up making things right and refunding us the meals that were wrong. Couple other people in the take out line also had orders that were wrong. Chicken parm was delicious.
Ridiculously overpriced, rude service. Ordered delivery via online ordering. I ordered the shrimp scampi appetizer expecting a small portion of pasta, shrimp, and sauce. I received my dish only to find 4 pieces of shrimp and an ocean of sauce. Thinking it was a mistake, I called the restaurant to clarify. The women I talked with was very rude, she acted as though I was obviously incompetent and informed me the appetizer only comes with shrimp. 13 dollars for 4 shrimp is a ridiculous price for shrimp that was only *okay*. Rudeness and a bad attitude is unacceptable when addressing a customers concerns. Will not be ordering again.
We went to the Oswego location tonight and was very disappointed. We had 4 people in our party. Only one person ordered soda and did not get the correct one, told the waitress she brought the correct one. The prices of the meals compared to the quality was not worth it. The waitress was slow and once we paid (we had separate checks) one party was shorted 5.00 in change. This was disappointing as I have also visited the Liverpool location and the experience was good but I think this location is done.
When you get that hankering for some authentic Italian meatballs, like the little old Grandma down the street, when you were a kid, would give you after her piano lessons, this is the place to go. Really though, the only difference is that they are served on a plate with pasta instead of into your outstretched and open hands. Quality food and wonderful service.
Really good Italian food and the wine is very well priced. Decided to visit here based on recommendations from some locals and myself and my coworkers really enjoyed it. Really good spot to eat if you are in town visiting, since the food options in Oswego are very limited.
We go every year for mothers day. Its an unbelievably delicious place to eat. Each year we almost joke about what type of hostess will seat us. Grumpy or plain ignore you for five minutes seems to be the running average, but its a pretty busy day in the food industry. Highly recommended Italian food!
It’s always a great meal when ordered from Canales. I’m never let down. The food is amazing. The garlic wings and the morolo combo are just divine. My husband loves loves loves the chicken riggies. The delivery only took about 40 mins. You really can’t get any better. ;)
The worst Valentines Day dinner ever we ordered take out and were less then a mile away the food was ice cold no utensils sent or condiments . So I called them and they still didnt bring what we need for dinner. I usually never write bad comments but they screwed up twice and I refuse to call them the 3rd time.Maybe better if you eat in but their take out is the pits. We threw most of are dinner away and the baked potato looked like they cooked it once or twice already. I give them a minus 3 stars and I see they took my first review down
My mother and I went to Canales tonight as a birthday dinner. The wait staff was attentive and friendly. However, the food was subpar and overpriced at $72 for two people to have a basic meal. The calamari was very rubbery, and many of them had raw/undercooked batter inside. The Delmonico steak was very grizzly and fatty, on top of being ordered medium an it came firmly medium rare. Luckily, it was for me as I dont mind it, whereas my mother cant stand hers that way. When it was mentioned the server argued that no it was a medium only edging into a med rare. Her meal, the chicken parm was very thickly breaded and over salted, inside was a tiny thin piece of rubbery chicken. More like a store bought dinner. The manicotti was tough. Both were absolutely drowned in sauce, salty and unimpressive, To the point it was difficult to locate the food! The cheesecake was gross, nothing like a cheesecake should be, the texture and flavor were all wrong an just not pleasant. The mixed drinks we got first were fine, but the second ones were served incorrectly. I got my mothers whiskey sour, she got my margarita. We didnt realize why they tasted so bad to us this time until nearly the end when we sampled each others. When we told the server about the mix up, laughing about it, it was vehemently denied that no, they were correctly served to us simply because of the glass they were in. We never expected or wanted anything from our concerns but they were still disregarded.Overall, just a very disappointing, and expensive, meal. In the future we will choose somewhere else to eat.
The food here is horrible!!! The bread came out cold and not warmed up. Then, we ordered 2 eggplant parmesan dinners that were disgusting and tasted like they had been cooked and then reheated several times. They were very dry and not fresh at all. The gnoccis (if you want to call them that) were hard and the sauce was nasty and tasted just like a jarred sauce. They shouldnt call themselves an Italian restaurant at all! I must say that we did complain and we were reimbursed for 2 meals, which was about the only good thing I can say about this place!!! I would never eat here again.
Went in for a late dinner for my daughters birthday. To make a long story short. The food came out and the food was cold. Not just warm cold to the point I thought they might have just left that plate of food out. The waitress ask if I wanted her to warm it up. I got kinda made and more frustrated that for the kinda of money people go to spend at these restaurants they wouldnt offer to remake it. No that want to warm it in a microwave. So I was paying for food that they had to warm up. I think me and my family just had our last meal there.
A waiter/waitress can change your entire dining experience. Not happy when you have to listen to one complain. Not the one that served us, just one who needs to be told to kwitcherbitchen.I asked for a sample of their sauce and was brought a large bowl. I like to dip my bread in sauce or evoo.My friend ordered manicotti. I ordered homemade cavatelli with sauce and one meatball.Manicotti was very large portion. Good. My friend took half home. Along with a chocolate stuffed cannoli. My cavatelli was nice and cooked al dente. The meatball had more meat than bread. Because of that it wasnt as soft as others Ive had but good. I had to take home the remainder of my meal due to large portion. The sauce was flavorful but I felt it was oversalted. I have high blood pressure so I notice salt more. Enjoyed overall but prefer Vonas down the same street.
My husband and I recently went to Canales knowing its reputation as an Oswego favorite, and were less than impressed with the experience. The service and atmosphere were average at best, but certainly not a deal breaker. Bread was good, not much more to say about that. Where things got out of hands was the contrast between quality of food vs price. The homemade sauces were excellent, but we were disappointed to learn that they relied on what were essentially the pizza topping vegetables for their pasta dishes (canned peppers and mushrooms at a $6 upcharge, and broccoli stalks for an additional $4). I spent $25 on a meal I couldve replicated with a jar of the Canales sauce you get at the supermarket and a package of frozen vegetables. My husbands big to-do with his pasta was that he had it baked with mozzarella. That apparently means baked with as little sauce as humanly possible. Sadly disappointing based on reputation. And one more thing... If Gordon Ramsey were here, hed cuss a lot and tell you to lose the wooden carts you wheel the food (and dirty plates) around on.
All lot of people say that this is the best place in town for Italian food. Well as a resident of Jersey you have a certain expectation and Canales didnt meet the mark. Veal parmesan is my go to dish that I use to compare places. I was not impressed. The sauce was without flavor and the veal was about 1/2 thick. Its supposed to be pounded flat with just enough mozzarella to cover. But I digress. The service was good and the appetizers were quite good. The wine list is limited but OK. A sampling of the table seemed to say it was just ok. Go if you must but La Perrella on 3rd is far better.
My grandmother went in to have lunch. She had a hamburger. Burnt on both sides. She couldnt eat it. Didnt want to upset anyone so she picked it apart and eat the inside of it. My dad had ordered spaghetti and the sauce was so runny hed said its soup and noodles. This place is going down hill. Used to be a nice place to eat.
The first time I was there I wasnt impressed. I left thinking does the cook know what salt and pepper is? 6 years later and the food is still terrible. My eggplant parm was swimming in oil. My boyfriend chicken Alfredo wasnt good either. The chicken was dry, the pasta was way over cooked, the Alfredo sauce wasnt that good either.
I had high hopes for this place, because everyone locally seems to love it. We went to the location in Oswego, no idea if Liverpool is any different. The place seems like you are sitting in someones basement. drab, dark, and closeted. The seating is incredibly uncomfortable if you are tall or wide. You have two options, a booth, or a table with weird captains chairs, that looked like they would fit children. Then on to the food, we ordered bruschetta thinking that this cant be too bad , wrong, it came on the wrong kind of bread, in fact they toasted cut corners of food service ciabatta rolls, and they were squishy, and stale, then topped with the most flavorless, mushy tomato mess, and covered with tepid cheese. Brushetta should not be served hot, nor should the cheese be a nasty melty mess. Then we had to wait around for our pizza, that was on a par baked crust, which for those of you not in the industry, is something that schools do, the crust is half way baked at some earlier time, then the sauce, and cheese are added. It tasted like beer, and made us sick. It was also a soupy mess, because they do not use pizza sauce, but use their thing marinara sauce. On to dinner, we both got chicken parm, which in itself wasnt too bad, but also tasted like it had been previously cooked then reheated, and really salty. Their sauce is nasty, salty, thin, acidic and no flavor at all. How can they be famous for that? We actually didn;t really touch our food, and brought it home for our dogs, because it was disgusting. The service was unbearably slow, and we were there for almost 2 hours, when we arrived before dinner rush even started, at around 4 pm.The server was okay, not really friendly, just kind of there. I would not be back, but guess I should have expected it to be bad, because every restaurant in Oswego is.
Ive only picked up food from here. But their chicken parm is amazing. There is plenty of food for a decent price!! Do not go here if you expecting a good salad...it is all head lettuce with toppings thrown on top. And make sure u ask for dressing on the side otherwise the lettuce is soaked!! But I go here for chicken parm Italian meal not the salad.
A staple of the Oswego community operated by the family of the original owners, the sauce and simple homemade Italian salad dressing remain delicious; their breads are baked on the premises; their homemade macaroni and cheese is among the best I ever tasted; their haddock (fish) sandwiches on Fridays are huge, and breaded, seasoned and fried to perfection.
I wish I lived in Oswego so that I could go to Canales every week. I think its Oswegos best Italian- American restaurant. It has all the great pasta dishes, salads and appetizers that you would expect in a good, family-style Italian restaurant. The best thing though, are their sauces. They have a great traditional tomato sauce; a very fresh tasting marinara sauce; a velvety vodka sauce; a rich alfredo; and the very unique sauce called the fixed sauce, which is a combination of tomato sauce and Romano cheese made into a delicious tomatoey-cheesy sauce. Its great with rigatoni and meatballs. Theres a take-out shop in the back where you can their traditional sauce, marinara sauce, as well as their homemade salad dressings.
We stopped up to see my son at SUNY Oswego and decided to try this restaurant for dinner. The service was ok by the waitress, but the food was slow to come from the kitchen. People who arrived and were seated after us were getting their food while we were still waiting. Our orders of cavatelli and ravioli were good. The steak my son ordered was spoiled and ruined the evening of a relaxing meal and visit for us. This is definitely on our list of never to visit again.
I Love Going To Canales Italian Restaurant Its An Amazing And Awsome Italian Restaurant And Yes I Would Recommend Canales Italian Restaurant To All And Everyone That Is Looking For An Amazing And Awsome Italian Restaurant To Go Out To Eat For Lunch And Dinner And Please Keep Up The Amazing And Awsome Work All And Every Single One Of You Do 😁 Jennifer Rivera Oswego New York
Its a great place to eat staff is friendly and very attentive we ate there today with a party of 16 plus 2 babies, nothing was over looked And our watress didnt forget a thing and came back to the table several times to see how everyone was and asked if we needed anything else,I couldnt see what her name was but she was great,we would definitely come again,😊
Just went to the Oswego location and asked them to put my to go orders into microwave safe containers so I would be able to heat them up for lunch the next day. Got home with them and discovered they used metal containers. How incompetent do you need to be to mess up something this simple? See no reason to ever return there.

2022-06-10Canales catered for my wedding about a month ago. The level of service and food quality blew me away. Nick and Sarah were amazing with planning, coordinating details and setting up the venue. The servers who worked the day of the wedding were attentive and even brought me and my husband water on the dance floor! My guests commented multiple times how fantastic the food was. I can not thank them enough for making my wedding go so smoothly. I highly recommend Canales Restaurant! Thank you again for all you did!

There was also bread and butter served A very nice menu with plenty to choose We ordered the Montreal Tenderloins Medallions which was delicious, tender and flavorful with a side of Minestrone soup for me and mashed potatoes for him. We ordered a large Meat Lovers pizza to try freshly baked and to take home next day. Which was also delicious. us both ways. Unfortunately we left no room for dessert but we will go back. The wait staff was fast, friendly, just perfect.

2022-04-11This chicken is absolutely horrible and dry, felt so boring and tired. Fries were alright and found food on the seats when we sat down. Really disappointed compared to other restaurants. Mcdonald’s does better.

2022-06-30Given the expectation for a small town place this was pretty good. Chicken Parm was solid. House salads were not so good at all. Lettuce wasnt crisp at all, couldnt finish It. Service was fine for a weekday lunch.

2022-06-01Mixed reviews.. my wife ordered the flatbread and she said it was delicious. I ordered a staple of Italian restaurants Eggplant Parmesan and I found it to be almost inedible.. the sauce was probably reheated from day to day with tomato paste added each day and the eggplant was over cooked. It’s unfortunate since they have a good reputation.. perhaps they had a short order cook on the job with a poor education of Italian Cusine

2022-05-17Michael Stapleton25 Genova CtFarmingdale, New York 11735May 18, 2022Owner/ManagerCanale’s Restaurant156 W Utica StreetOswego, New York 13126Dear Madam/Sirs:Although I’m not in the habit of writing letters, I feel compelled to drop you a line. This past Saturday, May 14th our entire family invaded your establishment for an early dinner. Originally, we were seated outside but had to be moved inside due to sun and heat. Our party consisted of 9 of various ages and various likes etc. While you know the restaurant business better than I, being a Server/Waitress was almost an impossible task.We were coming from my Granddaughter’s graduation ceremony and of curse all were hungry and thirsty. Our food orders ranged from a simple individual Pizza to a thick Steak along with salads and many different beverages for all of us.Our Server/Waitress was both courteous and professional. No matter how difficult nor how many requests were made there was always a smile along with our requested item. This Lady was impressive to the point that I had to bring a menu home so I could write to you. As I have already stated the Employee willingness to satisfy her customers was a credit to your fine establishment. We loved the food and the atmosphere and should we travel to Oswego we’ll be back and highly recommend it.Yours truly,Michael Stapleton

2022-04-08Always good food, drink, and atmosphere. You have to try the house Italian or blue cheese dressing and the traditional sauce over your favorite pasta with a meatball or two

2022-05-26Service was ok! Food was horrible… I mean come on do not use the word authentic and serve italian food like this. Not to mention, the prices are insane. For a small town it’s okay but the quality of food is horrendous for the price. I would not return.

2022-06-07If youre from Oswego, then you dont need a review of Canales- you just go because its like having a meal at a friends home. Warm atmosphere, good food, friendly staff. No drama, no attitude; just an Oswego institution doing what it has always done- and doing it well.
