The room was clean when we arrived, but was not serviced during our four night stay. For the price we paid, I would expect the bed to be made, towels to be changed, and the bathroom to be cleaned at the least. When we complained, we were told the staff was too busy preparing rooms for guests who were arriving to get to those of us staying. Eventually someone dropped off a bag with clean towels and toilet paper. How kind. The pool is supposed to be heated, but was cold. Likely because they added cold water for hours during the day. There were no towels at the pool during the week unless you complained. On Saturday there were plenty. On the plus side, the room was large and the view was amazing. And since there wasnt maid service, we saved on tips.
Comfortable stay, but unusual 4pm check in time. Not the view I was expecting. Want a better view? Upgrade to the king jacuzzi room. Access to docks, next door to boat tours, all local souvenir stores, and food. Check out Rileys by the river within steps of the resort.
We had a great time in Alexandria Bay at Capt. Thomsons Resort. Staff was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed several meals at Rileys and the Uncle Sam boat Tours - Two Nations Lunch Cruise and shuttle to Boldt Castle. You can see our Upper Harbor rooms cane with great views.
We dropped in while on a trip back to Canada so wanted to be very close to the border. We got a really lovely room looking out at the water channel and castle - made us think wed love to be back during milder weather to appreciate the balcony and boat tours which are literally next door. Staff were really kind and courteous - room was very clean and pretty. Fridge was also a better grade than normal for hotels. Its also walking distance to a fun strip of stores and restaurants (seem only open in summer).
I do not even know where to start. i stayed here for 5 days and 4 nights and i was able to come up with 13 things that were bad. we went swimming most of the time and there were CLUMPS OF HAIR in the pool and they should just scratch pool open 10am-9pm because they apparently dont care. there were black specs of who knows what on the couch and regular bed i honestly wanted to sleep on the floor because of how lumpy, loud, and tiny the couch bed was. moving on to the bathroom... the top drawer doesnt even open, and the ones that do fall out, i went to take a bath and the drain would not close, the bathtub was slippery and small i fell twice. also i kid you not there were stains on the actual beds. one night i turned on the light to find the remote and there were tiny bugs all over the light. clean much? there were stains on the dishes in the room i doubt they even wash those.. the ac was broken if not barely worked. we had the room service sign on our door every single day and no one came. and the room was just overall dirty. if you are ever staying at the thousand islands i do NOT recommend staying at captain thompsons resort.
This place was beautiful, the gentleman at the front desk was so helpful we ran late cause we were coming from a funeral 5 hrs away and he stayed until we got to check us in, amazing hospitality and the views are spectacular. Highly recommend taking Uncle Sams boat tours as well.
We stayed for a few days in the resort. We picked the place for its location and the high ratings. The location was excellent - right by the water and next to the boat rentals. And we had clean sheets and towels in the rooms.Everything else about the place though was less than desirable. For the rate ($250 a night), the service was pathetic. The place itself looks more like a cheap motel from the outside and the service desk manager was rude. The rooms were not cleaned and trash was not taken out when when we informed the manager, he got very defensive and did nothing. We informed about broken items in the bathroom and nobody was sent to fix. Wont be staying here again.
Beautiful clean rooms with amazing views on the main channel of the castle. A super laid back quiet low key comfortable atmosphere just how I like it. I come here every year and it just keeps getting better. Also a super close walk to the boat tours restaurants etc. Its like a 2 min walk unlike the other hotels! Oh and the beds are so amazingly comfortable too!
Never cleaned our room after hanging the paper on our door. So we decided the next couple of days just to put the towels and garbage outside our door. When they took it the SHOULD of left clean. We were out of the room for 10 hours and still had to call for towels. I was so disappointed in the service here.
Our stay here was perfect! The room was spacious, well decorated, and clean. Housekeeping did a great job. Check-in was quick and easy. Rooms include a private balcony, and views cant be beat! Coffee, tea, and fruited water provided in the office all day. The pool area and small fire pit were great spots to relax at. Absolutely loved it here!
Room 105 had a wrap around deck with a great view of the castle and sunset. Got a great rate last week. Room was very clean. Would have rated our stay higher but it took a day to get used to the significant perfume smell left by the disinfectant cleaners. I suppose it was covid related. 105 is also right next to the cleaning closet. Got to take the good with the bad.
The room was clean and very modern with a notical theme. Great view from our balcony. We were very impressed with the sincere friendliness and kindness of the girl on staff who made checking in and out easy! We also liked that Bolt Castle was only 10 minutes away by boat shuttle. Definitely reccomend staying there.
We just got back from a wonderful stay at Captain Thompsons. We were delighted with the updated, nautical-theme rooms. The office and check-in staff were wonderful, and the cleaning staff, as well. One thing that we were not pleased with was the smoking on the balconies. Our last evening there were two chain-smokers next door which prevented us from enjoying our lovely balcony. We are hoping that this policy will be changed.
The rooms are so cute, and very clean. The view on the main channel rooms are awesome, can lay in the bed and stare at the castle. The pool area is nice, still wish they haf a Jacuzzi tub. The little town is so cute many places to eat and shop. Get a package deal, so nice to have boat tours and meals taken care of. U can hear people walking around sometimes along the walkway, buy its not really a bother. Staff were nice and welcoming. I would definitely stay here again.
The room was exquisite! Very nicely decorated, very comfortable mattress and pillows! The view from our room was amazing! We were sitting on our private balcony directly across from Boldt castle! There is a wide screen TV, refrigerator, iron with ironing board, extra linens and a very responsive staff! We WILL stay there again!!
Great experience. Its best to get a balcony view, well worth it. The room had: working ac/heat unit, no smell, refrigerator, ironing board, free wifi, plenty of towels and bathroom needs, very clean room no bugs!, extra blanket, tv and plenty of outlets for devices. Room was spacious and had plenty of room to sit and be. The bed felt like sleeping on a cloud. The staff were friendly and attentive. They have coffee to go when you leave. They don’t host breakfast but right across the street is a breakfast place. Overall a great experience.
We took my parents to New York for their anniversary for a week and we spent a night at this resort . View from the room was fabulous directly looking at Boldt castle. The room was nicely decorated and very clean. Front desk staff were very kind as well as was reservations . They even put a sign in my parents room wishing them a happy anniversary ! wish we had stayed here longer it was great .
We had a lovely time. The newly-renovated rooms were lovely and cozy. We really enjoyed sitting on the balcony and watching the boats and enjoying the view. We got one of the packages that included meals and tours; it made everything so easy. Wed like to go back again!
This was one of the finest places that Ive stayed at in this area. The room was ideal and the view was spectacular. Pool was still open and surrounded by comfortable chairs and lounges. Staff couldnt have been any more accommodating. Congratulations manager and staff on a great weekend
If you’re riding on a motorcycle through the 1000 islands area, this place is a great place to stay. They recently updated the rooms which were clean, open, and nice. Splurge and get a water view to really enjoy the area and watch the sunset from your balcony. Close to border crossing and great day rides.
I come here every year and this year the rooms are so much better. Very clean and newly remodeled the rooms look great. This place is right across from the Boldt castle and right next to the boat tours as well. Its well worth it for the money compared to the other places. Some of the air conditioners need to be replaced they are old with a button or 2 broken but they still work well. Overall 5 stars
Ithas been 18 years since we last stayed at Capt. Thompsons. Wow, what a change. The rooms have all been refurbished and new furniture, and even some really cool art work on the walls. The room was clean and had fresh linens. My wife was absolutely blown away. She said lets make a reservation for next year. We had a Channel view room with an awesome view of Boldt Castle. When the freighters go by, you can almost reach out and touch them. You want peace and quiet, our room was incredible. We will be coming back in the future
Was so pleased with the service and friendly staff. We arrived early asked if we could leave something at the front desk till our room was ready. Asked our name and our room was ready. Absolutely loved our view. The sunsets were amazing. Highly recommend the rooms . Had more room than what we expected. Definitely will go again
We really enjoyed our 3 night stay at Captain Thomsons. Our group of 4 commented on the great location, wonderful harbor view, cute decor and we all commented that we appreciated not hearing any neighbors and it was a quiet sweet spot. The proximity to the boat tour, shopping and dining couldnt be beat.Due to COVID-19 the pool was closed and the housekeeping didnt come daily, this was a nonissue for us. They accommodated nicely providing extra towels and toiletries through noncontact front door drop off. We would certainly stay here again, but might request a river view next time.
Nice place right in the heart of the waterfront district, walking distance to most everything. Remodeled rooms are basic but very pleasant, much nicer than what they used to be. The rooms have varying views and pricings, but all have balconies with water views. No breakfast offered, but you can find things in town.
Located very conveniently to downtown Alexandria Bay. Everything in town is easily walkable. The propane fire pit was very welcome for our group. The rooms were very comfortable.Check-in was quite slow. Ive never been informed of so many rules and had to sign/initial so many papers to stay at a hotel before!
Buyer beware! Will never stay here again. Despite the reviews, Staff are unhelpful and are real good at apologizing and then saying there is nothing they can do. Consistently tell you one thing then send confirmation with something completely different, so double check you confirmations. Beware of the harbor view queen rooms as they a basically converted closets, Yes that small! But hey the view is good, at least thats what they will tell you when you complain about the $240 price tag foe a closet with a bathroom and a balcony.
Cute place. Rooms appear to be recently redone, each room has a private balcony. Walking distance from tons of restaraunts and shops. Parking is limited and fills up quick. Overall nice place, great price. Will definitely stay again. Conveniently right next to docks for Uncle Sams which we were using to go to Boldt Castle. There are soda machines but no other vending we found. Microwave is in the lobby, not in the rooms but the rooms have a mini fridge/freezer.
READ THE WHOLE THING!!!!This place was (almost) great! They had comfortable beds a nice view (maybe too nice) and a pool! The pool was kinda dirty and too cold for me but still fun. The hotel was in walking distance to shops and restaurants which is great! But there’s a catch. When I went on this trip I was gonna obviously take videos and pictures since I don’t come often. The little balcony of our room was perfect for that! So on my last day there I woke up in a good mood. I went outside to enjoy the view and I noticed some cute ducks in the water. So, like anyone would, I pulled my new iPhone XR out of my pocket and started to record. I guess my phone was too close to the edge because it fell out of my hands and fell into the river! I started crying my eyes out! No way was my new phone just sitting there in the river. Funny part was, it was still on, it hadn’t turned off.( but it didn’t record unfortunately). I was freaking out! They’re had to be a solution but I was too overwhelmed to think of one so my mom did. She went to the office and informed the people what had happened. This friendly man, (I think it was the guy who owned the places son) offered to get it for me. So I waited, and like he said, he was under our balcony getting my phone. So he got it and handed it up to me and I thought it was done for. But nope! The audio was very messed up but with a bit of rice and some shaking it was better in no time. So that was my experience. Moral of the story, don’t record ducks too close to the edge or you’re phone will fall! You’re welcome.
Great service, if pricey for the area. Getting a view of Boldt Castle on a holiday in a room on the water is expensive because there is such demand for it. We instead opted for a sunset view for a little less, and had a great spacious room. Adorably nautical-themed with a deck facing the water and in view of the opposing shore, the room comes equipped with WiFi, netflix capabilities, fridge, lots of towels, extra blankets, lamps with outlets, and chairs outside on your personal deck. The maid service was thorough, the staff available and knowledgeable. There is plenty of parking (some spillover in the back) and the main office is open all night. There is also a medium pool, gazebo, and a fire pit-but that wasn’t working when we were there. In the front office they have both infused water and coffee/hot water for tea at all hours, as well as a microwave. Great spot at the end of the main drag. But, if you are going for the Fourth of July, you should reserve a year in advance. Yes, a year.
Stayed 2 nights for our 10 year in middle of June. Rooms have been updated. The update goes more with the river feel. Having your own balcony is the best party. We had a straight view of boldt castle. The hotel was quiet and peaceful. We never had to get back in the car till we checked out. Uncles Sams Boat Tour was right next door with rileys across the way and shops down both sides of the street. The packages the hotel offers do save you money with the tours and meals. We couldnt go on the Singer Tour due to timing, so the hotel refunded us our money back, which was excellent. We will defiantly be going back to this hotel next time.
I took the two-hour cruise that toured the 1000 Islands area with millionaire homes from yesteryear and today, and the Boldt Castle. Our crew did a great job making us feel safe, and the person who gave us the history of the area was very professional and knowledgeable. It is a great value for the price charged - I highly recommend Uncle Sam Boat Tours!
We have been coming here for 20 years and love Capt. Thomsons Resort. The view of the St. Lawrence River is spectacular and the location to the center of town could not be better. The rooms have been updated at least 4 times since we have been coming here. The staff is extremely courteous and the owner has even answered my calls in the off season!
I booked a Hotel Room at the Caption Thomsons Resort for a weekend. When I arrived at the Caption Thomsons Resort I liked what I saw just by first site. As I went into the Front Desk to check in with my family, the girl working at the front desk seemed to be very stressed due to all the check ins at once and with that stress came an attitude when I told her that we had 6 people she said the room was made for 4 people and I informed the girl at the front desk that I talked to someone on the phone and they said that it would be an extra $15 per person over 4 people. The girl at the front desk then went on to question us on how we got this info because I booked the room online so there for you could have not called to get this info, but the girl at the front desk obviously knew exactly what that policy was because she was able to put the extra fees into the computer with no problem at all. When I got to my room It it was a beautiful River View room With a deck that we could sit on and just look out at The St Lawrence River. My 4 year old Nephew was in all of the Big Boats going right by our room window. As I got settled and got everything in place I wanted to play on my phone for a bit until I was ready to hit The Strip for a couple of hours. When I went to connect my phone to the WIFI I seemed to have trouble, so I called the front desk and they told me that they were aware of the prolem and the have reached out to their providers and we are waiting for a response. I was in this room for 2 nights and we did not get any WIFI until 9pm our last night there and even then it was hit or miss thing with the single.Other then the problems I had at check in and with the WIFI. It was a great stay. When ever I went to get Ice from the Ice machine or just out on the grounds in general all the staff were very friendly always smiled and said hi if we happen to cross paths. Even everyone at the Front Desk were friendly after I checked in and the mad rush was over but I am not sure about the girl who checked us in because we never crossed paths again for the rest of my stay. This Is a smoke free Resort which I can totally understand No smoking in the room or the pool area, but their rule is No Smoking anywhere on the property. Not on the deck or in the parking lot and if you are caught there is a fine of $250 by the resort.Over all If I was to return to this area I would Consider Caption Thomsons Resort but I would look into other places first before I would book another stay at this resort.
Room is pretty but filthy with bugs, asked the front desk to come and clean window where they were concetrated. A young boy came and tried to clean them. Could not sit on deck looked like it had not been cleaned all season even a toenail was on deck. Filthy and disgusting
My wife and I really enjoyed our time here-The 2 1/4 hr lake tour was relaxing, Boldt castle was wonderful, meals at Rileys were very good ( but the blueberry pancakes need work). Loved the spinach mushroom omlet. The balcony and view of the castle was relaxing and rooms clean and comfortable.
We spent a wonderful week at Capt. Thomsons Resort. This Alexandria Bay facility is centrally located in Thousand Islands with easy access to Canada. Shops, restaurants, and Uncle Sam Boat Tours are next door and nearby in walking distance. Waterfront, second floor Room 223 was complete with kitchenette, second bedroom, private balcony and FANTASTIC views (side and back) of the St. Lawrence River and the Boldt Castle. Our room was complete, comfortable, and clean. Great shower! Staff is very nice and helpful.
The location is on water and easy walk to everything. Carpet was stained (probably old) while bed sheets and bathrooms were clean. Cleaning staff were efficient. The office manager Chuk is unbelievable. We were a group of 48 and after I made reservation he is unable to be reached for days on his cell phone at multiple occasions. He like dumping his responsibility to junior staff.Chuck was not there to receive us as we expected and assigned responsibility to young staff and than starting backing off of any commitment the staff has made. I tried to reach the owner and left my cell with no call back.
Captain Thomsons Resort is located in the center of Alexandria Bay. Whether you want to go on Uncle Sams Thousand Island boat tours, shop downtown shops, go bar hopping, go sight seeing, or enjoy Alex Bays restaurants, Captain Thomsons is the place to be. It has a great location across the seaway from Boldt Castle, makes for beautiful scenic views day or night. Giant seagoing barges are a common sight. The rooms are a nice size and very clean and comfortable. The resort has refrigerators, wifi, nice bathrooms, and comfortable beds. Also, it is a nice resort for families and anyone with disabilities. There is a nice outdoor pool, Rileys restaurant is across the street and there is plenty of parking. Come and enjoy.
I havent even checked in yet and Im enraged! I made reservations for three rooms yesterday. Today I discovered that my bank account had already been charged and now Im overdrawn with hefty overdraft charges. I called the resort and was told that this was standard procedure and that I should have been told about it. Well, I honestly was NOT told about it, because if I had been, I wouldnt have gone through with it because my account wouldnt have had enough money to cover it until this Thursday, 4 days before we were to arrive. The rooms are for my husband and myself and for two other people coming to visit us from California. I wouldnt have had enough to cover all three in advance unless Id known beforehand and gotten the funds from my friends. Im not rich!Ive never had this happen at a hotel before. Is it actually legal?UPDATE: Today the hotel manager called and said we were not welcome. I could barely get a word in edgewise. He said I was told that my card would be billed immediately when I made the reservation. Sorry, but all the woman said was that I only had two days to cancel if I had to, otherwise Id be charged if we didnt show up. The manager went on and on and on about how HIS hotel and others in the area are different from other hotels and that they have to protect themselves. Huh? He had my card number; if we hadnt shown up, he could have charged it then anyway.Im mystified by this whole episode. Not very hospitable, if you ask me!
Our reservation process was seamless, upon arrival we were about a hour early but decided to see if we could park our car there and walk around, but our room was ready. The room was modern and very clean, bright and nicely decorated.I would definitely recommend this Resort!
I give two starts because of location. This is definitely NOT a 41/2 star hotel! It’s also NOT a resort if you u have ever traveled at all. Staff acts friendly and helpful when you book your room and check in but after check-in the attitude changes to you are a bother. I would recommend Riveredge Or Bonnie Castle for your stay. Capt Thomas’s owns Uncle Sam’s boat tours & Ryles by the River restaurant. Therefore they offer no continental breakfast they just push you toward their restaurant for every meal. We asked Capt Thomas staff to extend our stay by a day but match the two other two hotels price. Weekdays they offers a lower rate at both hotels and the rooms had the same views and amenities Capt Thomas’s refused with arrogance. We asked for a two hour late check out because we have insulin that needs refrigeration and they refused! Keep in mind we had their most expensive room w King bed, jacuzzi, castle and harbor view paying $290 per night and they refused to do anything extra! Don’t by the packages because they are charging full price for everything in the package and then some. Very, very disappointed
Ima so blessed to have visit this resort.Ive put a new Chapter in my life & I was so blessed to meet a lady by the Name of Lisa Knight she made my stay so great I didnt want to leave. Her personality & that bright Smile just made her become apart of her life and the Resort as well she needs to be awarded for her work there. And most of all making a person like my self & other so at home.Lish I pray your Manager when I get there May 2020
Very old outdated rooms. Pluse the stinky moldy carpet. I believe the room carpet never changed since 1960. Price 189 usa pluse tax per nightthe location and view is great but still not worth the price. Btw they call it a resort so dont let this word fool you.Dont recommend it at ALL.

2022-06-13My boyfriend and I started traveling. He is 18 I am 17. Most hotels you have to be 21 to check in this one was 18. So that was a first great sign! We get here and this place is absolutely beautiful!!! We go to our room and the room is spotless, the view is incredible, and the front desk lady Amanda was awesome! We then went to dinner that night at “Riley’s by the water” The food was excellent and our server Ryan was fantastic! Definitely will be back!!

2022-07-02This was our first visit to Alexandria Bay, and one of our favorite highlights was our room! We booked a king jacuzzi room on the upper channel. We had a balcony right up to the water with an incredible view of the river and Boldt Castle. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the room was spotless. The resort staff were so friendly and helpful! Our favorite part was definitely the location. Our room was within walking distance to literally everything we wanted to do! Right next to the pier for uncle Sam’s boat tours, steps from Riley’s on the river where we frequented for most of our meals, and lots of shopping and downtown night life. We are already planning our next trip back and fully plan to stay at Captain Thomson’s again!

2022-06-09Just returned from a 4-day stay at Capt. Thomson’s. Room was cleaned pretty well, except cleaning staff forgot to clean the floor, which was quite dirty for our first day there. Girls in office/lobby were very pleasant. We were very appreciative when Gabriella (in lobby) went above and beyond what’s expected when helping us with a couple of issues (issues were not big/negative problems).A great place to stay!

2021-10-02We were celebrating our 50th Wedding Anniversary honeymoon and decided to visit Thousand Islands, NY without any advance reservations. We found Capt. Thomson’s Resort and so thankful that we did. The employees are amazing and beyond friendly; the room was situated so we faced the St. Lawrence River. The bed was very comfortable and the room was very clean. We were so impressed that we made an advance reservation for the same time next year to hopefully celebrate our 51st Wedding Anniversary. Thank you for a wonderful visit.

2021-10-10Great stay. The room was small, but clean. The only main complaint is that there was no closet or hooks to hang clothes on aside from the towel hook in the bathroom. Overall, would recommend here. The location is perfect in relation to town!!

2021-10-10I LOVED this resort. The bed was super comfortable. I slept like a baby. The view was absolutely stunning. Its conveniently located so shops and restaurants are in walking distance and you are also in walking distance to Uncle Sam Boat Tours which takes you to Boldt castle and more. Also the room was a great price! The pool was fun and clean. The staff was professional, sweet and attentive to all of our needs. I cant say enough good things about this place. I highly recommend Capt. Thomsons Resort. Stay here! You wont regret it! Note: Pic is from the pool area! Beautiful views!

2021-09-04We just wrapped a week in 1000 Islands. We spent a few nights at Capt Thomsons Resort. What a great decision! The rooms are spotless, brightly decorated and plenty of space for our family of 3 [teen included].Having white linens is very appealing and appreciated. It must not be easy for them to keep them so white - but they do!! The large tv worked great, fridge and freezer, no issues and the toiletries were nicely scented. We enjoyed the deck having a glass of wine, watching the boats pass by. The gazebo was a great spot for sunset viewing! Having a heated pool was another great amenity. I wouldnt say its warm - but def not cold! And the pool is well maintained and clean. We didnt get to enjoy a firepit because we didnt want to get out of the water. We spent night in a double queen, lower level and a king on upper. Both were similar rooms. The prices and service are excellent at this hotel and I highly recommend it for a getaway to the area. All restaurants and shops are at your doorstep. You wont regret staying here!
