What a beautiful day on the boat. We rented a 15 person with a tube. We were lucky enough to have Captain Al to drive us out. Everyone at the dock was super helpful and it was easy to get going. Al shared some info on the area as we rode out. We had an area of the lake completely to ourselves. Tubing was a blast. Well worth the cost. Very recommended!
Another group to fall for Lousy Bobs boat rental scam with high pants body guard daughter. We also ran out of gas after running the boat for only a few hours with the gas gauge still showing half tank. The boat crew came and filled the tank with 2 gallons and charged us $130 for gas and service. Here is a photo of Bob flipping us off and saying I told you to fill up every 2 hours. Youre trespassing, Get off my property before I call the Police. Definitely not going back and dont recommend.
Had a great experience on the lake with one of Captain Bobs 25 ft pontoon boats. The boat was awesome, the staff got us set up quickly and easily. We fished and tubed around the lake all day. The kids had the time of their life. I was honestly nervous because of some of these reviews but I think its mostly people who messed up their boat and were hoping to get away with something. We had no issues and Bob was a good guy and easy to deal with. We will definitely be coming here again.
Our first experience with Captain Bobs, and not our last! This company was very accommodating throughout the process. We had a brand new 25’ boat with a 300 hp engine that moved our group of 11 with no problem. It was also a very nicely equipped boat. The checkin process was good and the crew at the docks was more than helpful and explained everything before we left and when we returned. This is the best company we have rented from.
We were a bit skeptical at first because of some of the reviews but Bob was a class act. We loved his humor and the great Information he gave us. The guys at the boat ramps were awesome. We left feeling confident as this was our first time driving a boat. We had a 16 passenger pontoon with 13 people super spacious. We will be renting again from bobs and reccomend them again. Thanks Bob for some great memories.
After reading the reviews after I made my reservation I was a bit weary of Bob. The office is small and only one customer goes in at a time. As I waited the gentleman ahead of me came out to tell his party the boat they reserved was broken and they could try back in the afternoon for another boat. When it was my turn to go in it was actually a pleasant experience, Bob was kidding around and in a good mood. The crew at the dock was also very good. The boat was definitely not one of the better ones compared to those I’ve rented from other companies, but they were all sold out. Seats were dirty and moldy. Numerous seams and stitching were coming apart. Boat has seen some use, not new boats, but it ran well and we had fun for the day. Upon return to the office Bob was still friendly and joking, a good time was had.
Awesome day spent on the water with family and friends. when you first arrive to rent the boat it seems slow and you feel its eating into your time on the water but they are very fair with making sure you get your time. everyone involved in getting you on your way were great and all had wonderful attitudes and were very kind. Be mindful of how many people they are trying to out on the water safely. treat them with respect and that is what you will get back. Hello Captain Bob... thanks for making me laugh and not letting my husband in the office with me.lol
The experience at Captain Bobs was polarizing, at best. I booked a boat via telephone with Captain Bob directly, after receiving a flyer advertising his rates, along with a coupon, at a campsite where I was vacationing with my family. The flyer offered a $25 discount. When I got to Captain Bobs I was told that in order to honor the $25 discount (on a $565+ rental) I would have had to book in person, the day before, despite the fact that the rental facility was 45 minutes from our campsite. This was not indicated on the flyer, nor was it indicated when I made the reservation directly with Captain Bob the day before. When I questioned the misleading lack of information on the flyer, both Captain Bob and his front desk person said there was nothing they could do, and indicated that was the rules. Now, I know that $25 off on a $565+ rental doesnt mean much, but the principal of fairness and honesty in advertising does. It was short-sided and cheap not to fulfill this simplest of offers. In addition, when we first arrived at the front desk, I politely asked if I could fill out my paperwork while my brother watched the mandatory instructions video. Rather than simply saying no, I was instead told to RELAX with full on hand gestures. It seemed inappropriate at the time to tell them that I was indeed very relaxed; I was simply trying to multi-task so we could get out on the lake. Then, when we were finally able to check out, Captain Bob made a snide remark about our getting a late start! Overall, Captain Bob and the front desk person were smug, rude, mean-spirited and started our day-long experience with a real sense of dread. We were warned about damaging the boat we rented as if we were criminals, so much so I felt compelled to photograph every part of the boat to insure we wouldnt be accused of damaging anything. Overall the boat itself was fine and despite the check-in experience, we managed to have a nice day. However, when we returned the boat, Captain Bob stood glaring at us THE ENTIRE TIME. Frankly, it was creepy and unnecessary, especially since we returned the boat in perfect condition. As an aside, a one-year-old baby should NOT be counted as a full person in the rental count, even on airplanes babies fly for free until they are two. And finally, when I got the Captain Bob email receipt requesting I rate the experience on Google, naturally the link here was broken. Overall I would absolutely not recommend Captain Bob. There are plenty of other boat rentals on Lake George; the lake is stunning and should be experienced, but I strongly urge you to use another boat rental company. Stay away from Captain Bob.
DO NOT COME HERE! Listen to the negative reviews! I wish I did before renting a boat here. If its not my experience that turns you away, look up his arrest in 2020 for pulling a gun on a customer. My family rented at boat here in June. The boat ran out of gas after only a few hours, even though the meter read we had almost a quarter of a tank left. Weve rented from Yankee Boat Rental in Lake George before and the gas lasted us an entire day and were told it can even last 2. We called Bob and he sent one of his employees out to help. Upon arriving back at Captain Bobs, we were charged almost $300 for his employee to bring us a SINGLE gallon of gas. We were told the charge also includes the gas his employee used. They charge $7/gallon (30% more than what Yankee charges by the way) so I dont understand how that adds up to almost $300. When explaining the situation with the meter, Bob told us that all of his boats meters are faulty and its in the paper we sign off on. Meanwhile, they dont voice this over beforehand and quickly rush you through the paperwork. Its funny that Bob claims his boats have faulty meters, but has no problem relying on those same meters to read how much gas his employee used so he can accurately charge us. When we expressed our dissatisfaction, Bob raised his voice and disrespected my brother-in-law. He basically yelled us out of his office and would not listen to anything we had to say.
I rented a 16 person pontoon and had an incredible time. The boat was clean (practically brand new) and all staff were knowledgeable and helpful. I was able to bring a cooler and a few fishing poles, we rented a tube (highly recommend because it was hilarious) and overall had a great day out on the lake with my family and friends. I will more than likely return as a customer. Thank you Captain Bob and crew!!
We had a great experience with Captain Bob’s rental. Super reasonable and Christina, Kyle, and the crew was so kind and helpful with us! Everyone was thorough in explaining procedures and protocols when driving and taking care of the boat. Bob does right by the customer when any hiccups came up and we had the best time on the lake.
Had a great time til the end when we realized we were being scammed. Unfortunately, read the reviews after. Faulty gas guage like other people posted. Charged us $130 to come out and fill tank with 2 gallons. When we returned the boat, Bobs employees said take it up with Bob like theyve heard this all before. They need to quit that job and work for someone more respectful. When we talked to Bob,it didnt go well. Very unprofessional. Bob and his daughter seemed to enjoy the fact that our group was upset. Theyre scammers and I cant believe theyre still in business. Please read all reviews. Learned the hard way
Captain Bob and his staff could not have been more friendly. They took the time to explain their operation and assisted us in having a wonderful time out on Lake George. If you are vacationing in Lake George and want a unique experience, I strongly suggest you rent a boat from Captain Bobs boat rental. My family loved the experience, particularly my six grandkids. Thanks Captain Bob.
Captain Bob and his staff, especially Kyle were professional, very helpful and extremely knowledgeable. We rented the 16 passenger 300hp pontoon boat, which was very clean and well maintained. This is our 4th rental from Captain Bob’s. Why we’ve been back:1) Fast Service - the checkin process is efficient. Boat is in water ready for use.2) Boats - are clean and well maintained.3) Gas - near docks.4) Staff - friendly and knowledgeable.
We booked this before reading the reviews and honestly we were nervous about how our experience would be. Upon arrival Captain Bob explained everything to us and made our visit super comfortable. I can’t speak for other people’s’ experience but ours was great! We returned our boat early because it was really cold out but we definitely would love to come back when it’s warmer! Thank you Captain Bob for a great experience!
I wanted to write this review to refute some of the negative ones, and hopefully allay some fears.I have to admit I was nervous about renting from Capt Bob based on the assertions some people made here - specifically, that he charged for damages unfairly and that he had underhanded practices. From the moment I rented my boat, I had a great experience. I placed the reservation, then called Capt Bob to confirm he was renting boats (other marinas were not yet renting in early May). He confirmed that type of boat I wanted, confirmed I had a place to dock, and assured me he was renting. He called me the day before my rental to see what time I was coming to make sure everything was ready. I arrived on time, and Capt Bob was ready and waiting. Everything went smoothly, and his dockhand, Devin, was great.Ive been renting boats at Lake George for many years, so I know enough not to run aground or to go under the Sagamore bridge. As such, I didnt break Capt Bobs boat and Capt Bob didnt charge me for damages.Overall, we had a great experience and had a beautiful 115 hp Pontoon boat. Gas was a problem, as many marinas werent open, but Capt Bob even helped me solve that at the 11th hour. Please dont be concerned that Capt Bob will charge you inappropriately.I suspect the other reviewers had a negative experience at least in part due to their own efforts, but I cant comment on that.
If I could leave negative stars I would!! We rented a boat in May, when we arrived at 9 am the day off he told us our boat was broken and we he didn’t have any for us. This he proceeded to tell us to go “f off” when we asked for our money back. He was screaming and flipping off a group of girls for a bachelorette party. DISGUSTING and BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. This man should NOT be in business! Recommend Lake George Boat Rentals in town! They were so helpful and accommodating!
Rented a boat with them way in advance for our trip. We get there on time and we’re immediately met with grumpiness and hostility for no reason from Captain Bob. Long story short he gave our boat away because they overbook everything. They even charged our card for the reservation and still were unable to give us a rental. Avoid at all costs. He’ll ruin your day.
DO NOT RENT FROM BOB UNLESS YOU ARE DESPERATE. BOB IS A GRUMPY OLD MAN WHO LOVES TO GET IN ALTERCATIONS WITH HIS CLIENTS.I made the mistake of not reading the reviews prior to renting. Review after review tells the same tale of Bob getting into yelling matches with his clients. Boats were fine, but, Bob does his best to ruin the experience for you. The poor guy has life problems beyond my comprehension.
Boat was new and clean. Kyle got out us out on the water quickly. Even though we had a 9am reservation we did not get out on the water until a little before 10 since Kyle was the only person getting the boats out. The delay did not cost us any time on the water and Kyle started our full day rental @ 10am and let us keep it until 6pm. Great day on the water. Thank you!
Wish I could give negative stars. As soon as we showed up for our rentals with our 15 people family full of kids we were threatened to be towed for parking in THEIR parking lot. Disgustingly rude! Started screaming and cursing out my family! 10/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! Read similar reviews with people having the same experience. Ended up going to Lake George Rentals instead.
From the minute we booked it to the minute we returned the boat, nothing but exceptional service. Captain Bob and his staff were amazing. Provided us with a top of the line boat, showed us everything and we were on our way. My family loved every minute of it. Highly recommend renting a boat, you won’t regret it. Call them today!!!!!
Good luck if you go to this place. You’re definitely taking a gamble on this rude man’s attitude. We used him summer of 2020 twice and had no problems. This summer of 2021 we went back since we had a good experience, but oh boy!! This man was the rudest person I have ever encountered. Long story short, he wanted to give us a boat with a broken gas gauge, refused to give me money back when given a boat with a smaller motor, and at the end cursed at me and my husband and kicked us out of his office bc I asked him for a receipt that said that he owed me my $500 deposit refund bc his machine wasn’t working. Unprofessional is an understatement. I honestly don’t know how he is allowed to stay in business.
Captain Bob is one of the rudest people I have met in my life! Do not give him your business. Book with ANYONE ELSE well in advance so u dont end up here. Whoever the lady is helping in office is no better. They have no desire to help their customers whatsoever to make this pleasurable experience .
This was our third year renting from captain Bobs... and it wont be our last. The boat we got was very clean and seemed to be well maintained. The deck hands explain what you need to know, and answer any questions you may have. Just an FYI, this is a grown up experience and you must be a responsible adult. If you damage something on the boat, then you ARE responsible. Seems like all the negative feedback that I have seen has been regarding boat damage that someone didnt do. If you cant be an adult about your actions, then do not rent from Captain Bobs! And if you are concerned, take a video before leaving. The deck hands encourage you to take a picture of the prop. I asked if I could take a video of the entire boat and they encouraged it! Anyway, Love Captain Bobs!
Weve rented pontoon boats from other places on Lake George, but none compares to Captain Bobs. The staff takes their time, making sure to go over the boat and explain everything. The boats are new, clean, and in terrific shape! Highly recommend especially since they now have online booking!
My family of four shared a pontoon rental with another family we’re visiting the Lake George area with. We were cautious because of some of the negative reviews, but we’re happy to find they were completely unfounded. The check in process took a little bit of time, but no more than I would expect at any boat rental place. The boats were in fantastic condition. We were given a map and some guidance on can’t-miss lake sites and attractions. I expected it to cost $100-150 to refuel the boat. But Bob’s 4-stroke Yamaha engines sipped fuel. We paid $3.79 a gallon and $40 total for a 4 hour rental that included 6 tubing adventures and a lot of exploration. This was an awesome way to experience Lake George.I suppose if you have unreasonable expectations, Bob’s probably won’t meet them. But for us, Bob and his team gave us a memorable half-day on the lake in a way we never experienced before. I felt compelled to leave a review because of how different our experience was than many of the reviews.
I have rented pontoon boats from Captain Bobs for several years without any issues besides that they are very rude and unprofessional, but this year was a different story. i have made the reservation online through their WEB site and paid a full amount of $627.10 with my credit card on July 9th 2020.15 minutes later Captain Bob called me on my cell and had told me that there are no boats available and he didt have time to not accept my reservation. so i told him that there is no problem there are plenty of other rental places on the lake and please issue a refund to my credit card he hanged up when i said that so to make a long story short i am still being charged that full amount of $627.10 on my credit card although it is in dispute mode at the moment. the problem is that Captain Bob is saying that i was a NO SHOW i called captain Bob recently to talk with him about this issue and he politely told me to go and F my self and that i need to deal with my credit card.so i am just trying to prevent this happening to other customers.Captain Bob is scamming his customers anyway he can.(reply to Captain Bob)if i overheard that, then my apologies. But the fact remains the same you still did not issue a refund to me, when i have never rented a boat from you this July. because you had called me and said that there are no boats available. instead you or your accounting department keeps telling the credit card company that i was a NO SHOW. there is a very simple resolution to this. Please issue my refund and i will change the review that the issue is resolved.thank you.
Captain Bob & Christina are two awesome people! A few of us were up there for a little get away and the pontoon rental made the trip 10X better! No issues, smooth transaction, fair prices, and awesome boats. We’re going back up this week and will be renting from Captain Bob!
Great experience here and very helpful staff. Christina was amazing and extremely friendly. The boats were in great condition and clean. They were able to accommodate us last second from a screw up from one of the other boat rental locations. I would definitely recommend coming here. We had a great time on the water with some food and drinks.
Rented on-line in a rush before reading reviews. Read reviews and became a little freaked out. I had planned a trip for our three families with young children. Thankfully there was nothing to worry about. Everyone was very nice, from the young woman at the front desk, the man who went over the details of the boat (he did stress to be careful not to damage anything and how such things can occur) and Captain Bob himself all seemed very amicable! The boat was brand new, clean and spacious and all for a great price. We had the best time swimming, fishing, tubing and taking in the sites of Lake George. Would definitely go again!
Honestly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Captain bob and his daughter Christina treated us like family. We rented to pontoon for two days and they graciously accommodated us with an extra day when we asked to extend it! The boat was in fantastic shape and it truly made our week complete. Highly recommend. Thank you bob and Christina !
This was the most pleasant business experience I have had to date. Everyone was extremely professional and were being very accommodating. The young woman at the front desk was beyond pleasant, and all of the deckhands were also great. And Capt Bob was also very pleasant . Anyone saying the staff was rude I am guessing had caused damage to the boat and did not want to pay what they were responsible for. This business is well run and I will be returning for a boat rental and possibly also a cabin!
We could not have had a better experience. Customer service was great - thank you Christina, Corey and crew! We rented the 250HP 17 passenger, and we had 16 passengers. Boat was only 1 year old and in great shape. Glad we had the 250HP - plenty for tubing and cruising the lake. Glad we spent a little more for bigger engine! Thanks again!
After confirming our boat and with confirmation in hand, our group was told that we were late and our boat was canceled EVEN with confirmation email on us with the confirmed time. Captain Bob then swore multiple times and said he did not have time to call us. He still has not returned our deposit. May be it is time for Captain Bob to get out of the boat rental business.Horrible customer service. Stay away!
Terrible! Never trust them! We have rented pontoons here multiple times, but after our experience yesterday, we would NEVER return. After we had had our day out we were heading back to refuel when a sudden gust of wind caught the canopy and wrenched it back on itself, catching someones finger and smashing it. We decided to go straight to the dock and drop him off before refueling, but as we came in one of the guys overseeing the boats came towards us and asked if we had refueled. We started to explain what had happened, but he ignored us and started looking around the boat for damages. Theres a thousand, and theres another thousand, then theres this and this and this. I could not believe my ears! The canopy was not actually broken - the two front supports and come unclipped when the wind caught it - the guy clicked them back on and it was perfect. With the confusion we forgot all about refueling and went up to talk to Bob in the office. He was incredibly rude and nasty, and wouldnt show us what was supposedly damaged. He said it would cost $4500! My husband said he needed to know what it was for before paying and he said Well I have already hit your credit card! I dont know what the deal is with this place, but since this happened we have read hundreds of reviews on different sites that describe very similar stories. There are some suggestions that the whole thing is a scam plan, which could well be true from our experience. BEWARE - it may depend on their mood or whether they need a bit of extra cash that week, and they may try to trump up some reason to charge you more. This guy has even been in jail for violence, and recently pulled a gun on a customer. Watch out! Your next experience may not be as enjoyable as previously!
Stay away from angry Capitan Bobs. Guy is a crook. Tampered gas gauge caused us to run out of gas only after 2 1/2 hours on the water. Ruined most of our day and charged us $160 extra service charge. This dope and his gnarled nasty daughter don’t deserve to be in business.
Avoid at all costs!! Capitan Bob is beyond rude and looks to scam everyone who enters. We rented a boat this weekend, with young children. While sitting idle in the lake a wave from a passing boat hit the front door and it blasted through - my 8 year old was injured. We quickly gassed the boat back up and returned to the dock. Corey (dock help) took pictures and sent them up to Capitan Bob before we could clear the boat. Upon entering the office, Bob had a cost worksheet already planned out totaling over $2700 for damages! He refused to listen about the event, and said he would drop the cost to $2500 if we paid cash right there or he would call his lawyer. When I explained that my son was injured in the event, he proceed to give me directions to the nearest urgent care, refusing to see his injuries. We will never refer Capitan Bob to anyone!
I have rented a Pontoon boat from Capt Bob’s every year for the past 5 years. They have always been fantastic to deal with. The on-line rental process is incredibly easy. The boats are in excellent shape and extremely clean. Before leaving the dock the staff reviews everything you need to know. I highly recommend them!!
This has to be the most unprofessional establishment on the entire lake. If I could rate this company for zero stars I would, but I don’t get how this company is even still in business. The “owner” Bob is by far the most disrespectful and degrading human being on the whole lake. He has no people skills, speaks down to customers, and just flat out has no idea how to run a business. I’ve been renting boats on lake George for over 10+ years with ZERO complications until I went to this place and I can promise you this, this will be the first and last time I ever rent at “Captain Bob’s.” If you think that this just will happen to me, you’re wrong, it will happen to you too. DO NOT RENT BOATS HERE, MUCH MUCH MUCH BETTER OPTIONS ALL OVER THE LAKE OTHER THAN THIS PLACE.
We rented from Captain Bob today and had an AWESOME time. Boat was great, very clean, radio with Bluetooth too. We rented a tube and the 4 kids we had with us had a blast. We stopped and had a picnic on one of the islands also. Staff were all super friendly and helpful. Price was great too. All the way around, a great experience and when we come back to Lake George well be renting from Captain Bob again.
First time renting a 10 person Pontoon boat in Lake George and the experience could not have been easier! The young lady who worked the front sales desk (I think her name was Christina) provider wonderful customer service-so helpful and cheerful! We will come back and highly recommend.
Awesome experience all around. Capitan Bob (if thats his real name) runs a tight ship. Starting from the beginning:-At first we were cautious because of some 1 star reviews. Decided to book anyway. Prices were better that other rental places. Decided to give it a try.-Online reservations were a breeze. Very clearly allows you to select exactly the boat you want and gives very clear information regarding the boat, max capacity and also the generals rules.-Check In was busy. They have you arrive early for a reason. Don’t expect to show up 15 min prior and get your rental on time. Despite many people checking out the rentals in the beginning of the day, We only waited 15 min.-BOATS WERE BEAUTIFUL! Much nicer that we all expected. Buttery soft benches, immaculately clean. All the boats looked brand new.-Inspection went well. We all have cameras now, take some photos. Common sense. Just like renting a car.-Boat ran great, used very little gas. 10gal In 4 hours driving around for most of the time.-$7 GAS?? ....NOPE! They allow you to return it full by filling up at the marina next door. Again, just like a rental car... $3-4/gal. If you bring it back to Bob empty, you deserve to pay $7/gal.-Returning the boat took less than 5 min. Guys looked it over and gave us the all clear. The office promptly returned my entire deposit with a smile.FYI, do them a favor and follow the parking rules. Parking by the water is extremely limited (we parked both cars up top to help out) While we were there though, there was someone trying to put both cars at the water. Don’t do it. Be respectful and they will return the respect.Great experience and we will certainly return. Great boats, great staff beautiful lake. Thanks Bob and crew!!
This is by far the most Crooked place I have ever encountered. DO NOT USE THESE CROOKS!Owner is rude, obnoxious, and charged my card 5,000 more the day after our boat was returned. We had to call the police, and they explained they deal with this POS all the time.I’m not sure how they are still in business but I’m sure they will be shut down soon;)They have a mentally unstable person checking the boats and to top it off the loser owner started cursing at my 3 children all under the age of 10. This place belongs in the trash along with the owner!!
This is the worst place ever, there were mechanical issues with the boat and we were stuck in the middle of the lake and the owner did not even help us. We had to ask for help from other people. He also charged us 650$ saying that the he will need to replace the front door panel with no mistake of ours. The front door was exactly as it was given to us and he was just doing a fraud by changing us and also wanted to cover mechanical cost which was completely their mistake.Avoid this place at all cost
My sister ended up finding this rental after some calling around after our get together group began swelling and we still wanted to be on a single boat. We were able to rent a large 17 person 300 hp triple pontoon boat. I am not gonna lie, I had no idea they had boats that could fit that many people on the lake. They did have smaller boats as well, but we did not have to use them.We were able to book in advance, and handle the reservation on the boat. Christina was awesome and explained everything super well, and her puppy was adorable. At the time of writing, the boat we were loaded was very new, and the stereos work. They have FM, Bluetooth, AUX cables, and a USB-A connector so you could hook up anything from an iphone to Walkman to an 8-track player, with a system powerful enough for various types of music without cracking or distortion (we had a lot of latin and other club music). One thing that i found surprisingly nice was that they managed their parking lot as people checked in and unloaded in the morning, even asking people to move their cars to ensure that not only was there enough room for everyone without being blocked in, but also to ensure that the was space if a party arrived in more than one car. (We ended up with 3 different cars, and we could fit in various places on the property)I was surprised and happy to see captian bob and his deckhands that took safety seriously, and knew their boats. Do not be afraid to ask questions on your boat or ask how to use something. They will be able to answer them, and show you how to use it. Some would say that they would be rude and too detail oriented, but being a local that deals large machinery regularly and hearing the occasional lake horror story with prop suction on drunk people slipping off of sundecks, it is super important to know the hazards, a focus on safety was refreshing to see. Pay attention to the saftey video at the beginning and you will be fine.Their launch is quite nice to go in and out of with the larger boats, since it eneded up being a straight shot in and out with minimal outside boat traffic. Plus it is on the north side of the Sagamore bridge, so you can explore the quieter areas of the lake easily without using much gas at all. This becomes super apparent with the more busy sections of the lake and the larger marinas nearby when you get gas. The waterview on the dock is also amazing as well, just dont drop your phone in the water. If you do not drive boats regularly, remember that the bouncing of the boat will throw off your fuel gauge, so at the end of the day, you WILL need to get gas. Gas use was pretty good for a large fully loaded 300 hp boat for a full day with some crusing to swimming spots, only using ~$30 in marina gas.One thing to keep in mind is that Captain Bobs do not sell gas onsite, so you will have to plan time to get gas from one of the surrounding marinas. I would recommend make sure that you leave a large chunk oftime (1 hr-45 min) if are getting it by the end of the day, due to all the rentals returning. There is a per gallon surcharge if it is brought back without a fillup. Depending on you opinion on Time/Value, keep it in mind.I would definitely use them again, especially knowing where they are on the lake, and the size range of boats they had.
We rent a pontoon with Captain Bob every single year, this year we did it for Fathers Day. I rented online, forgetting what I actually wanted. He allowed us to upgrade the pontoon on the day of. The amount of time they take to explain the lake, the map and the safety of things - is necessary and much appreciated. Lawrence is always a pleasure to deal with and listens to any concerns we have. The family enjoyed our 8 hours on the water yesterday! Thank you for being a part of our family tradition!
I read all the negative reviews before renting from Bobs only to find out they couldnt be further from the truth. We had a party of 12, rented for a half day and had an overall great experience. Bob was a great guy, along with his two daughters and the more then friendly staff. We look forward to renting again.
I just rented a 10 person pontoon boat, and tube from Captain Bobs on 08/27/2016 and had a great time. The girl taking reservations was friendly and professional. I should have arrived 30 -45 min earlier to compensate for the time needed to do the paperwork like she told me to, but I didnt. The reservation was from 1:30-5:30 and I didnt leave the dock until 2:15. Captain Bobs gave me the extra time free of charge. The boat was newer, clean, and ran perfectly. It also had a fish finder with depth, so I wasnt worried about running into shallow water. I ended up going over my time because there was a line at the gas pumps. I ran the boat almost non-stop for four hours, and only used $20 in gas. When we arrived at the dock Captain Bob was their to greet us, and I explained the delay to him. He informed me that next year they will have gas pumps at his dock. He didnt charge me for the extra time. I found Captain Bob and his employees to be very kind and courteous to all of us.Also, dont rent a boat from the people in Lake George Village. They have a $90 flat fee to refill your boat. That ends up costing a lot more than renting one of Captain Bobs boats, and their boats have smaller underpowered motors. Definite tourist trap
We had a great experience on the lake. We rented a pontoon boat that was a good size and had enough power to get us around the lake and to all the places we wanted to go. The one issue we ran into was the RPMs would drop at times after we ran the boat for a few hours and it was due to a build up of air in the tank which once released allowed the motor to run properly. It would have been good if we were given that heads up in the walk around and not have to call to discover that. We still had a great day! Thank you
The unprofessional management coupled with the inefficient utilization of staff is simply perplexing. After being set back an hour due to waiting for the understaffed boat pros to set up our below ordinary pontoon, the head marina guide said our 4 hours start from when we launched. Upon arriving back 4 hours later, Captain Bob himself said he was going to charge us for going over the time (contrary to what the head marina guide said) and began screaming irately at us. It was unprofessional, unnecessary and above all else unsettling. Captain Bob single handedly ruined our weekend and has solidified himself as a black eye against Lake George.
By far the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. Booked a boat a week in advance. Showed up the day of my rental and they didn’t have a boat. I called the morning of my rental before I drove over to ask about the parking g situation and There was no mention that they didn’t have a boat for us. I drove over and when I showed a up there was a rude nasty woman who was in the parking lot. She gave us an attitude as soon as we pulled in asking what we were doing there. I went into the office to tell her we were there to pick up a boat and she got frustrated and wouldn’t give me an answer to why they didn’t have a boat for us. When she didn’t like me questioning to why this happened I was cursed out and told to leave. I have still not received a refund for the boat I never received. On top of all this. After I went back to my hotel to tell my group we didn’t have a boat, My girlfriend called the office to try and get some answers. She too was cursed at and then she received vulgar text messages from the woman at the office. Totally unprofessional. Go somewhere else. They do not deserve the money of normal people.
I cannot believe this guy is still in business. 10 years ago, he was aggressive, rude & completely disgusting, cursing out my family, no problem doing so in front of my 3 yr old. I was 9 months pregnant & felt so completely unsafe around him & his awful family. I think a daughter...DO NOT BOOK HERE
Do yourself a favor and rent a boat from any other place. The owner Bob and his daughter are extremely rude, aggressive, and inconsiderate. They have no interest in running a good business and it seemed like they were intentionally trying to drive us away. They yelled and cursed us off the property for no reason, and Bob has recently (August 2020) pulled a shotgun on a customer... and has a violent past as well. Believe other negative reviews on here and do not subject yourself or your family to these crooks.
Place is a fraud.Read any of the negative reviews - there is a consistent theme of charging exorbitant amounts of money for little or no damage, and when questioned, screaming at the person in an attempt to intimidate them. My experience can confirm that.If you need an idea of how they act, look no further than their replies to other negative posts on here - very combative, sarcastic and a not my problem attitude. Thats exactly what they are like in person - except thats all being conveyed in a screaming match.Lake George is a must visit, beautiful place, but I can honestly say Id prefer to miss out on the scenery than go here again.
I was looking for a boat rental over 10 people. I called and the person And whom ever pick up the phone was extremely rude. I asked for details about their boat and safety Since I would have my kids with me and the answer I got was quoting“ if you want the boat come get the boat other wise I can’t help you “I understand these are difficult times but there is no reason to be so disrespectfulOver the phone.I hope this gets to the owner of this place and you are able to have a better customer service.
Very Friendly, very efficient, many boats with large capacity. We were a group of 12, No problem! They easily had more than one boat to accommodate us and next year we will be more people and will definitely rent there again, they have boats that hold up to 17 people!
Been renting boats on Lake George for 40 years and this was the worst experience we have ever had! Due to a faulty fuel gauge that read 1/4 of a tank, we ran out of gas in the middle of the lake. They had to send someone out to assist. When the person arrived, they illegally poured gas from a red gas container straight into our boat from the other boat right over the water. They provided us with just enough gas to get back to the marina and refused to compensate us for anything. We lost at least 2 hours of our day on the boat that we paid nearly $1000 for the day. The owner then came in and was as rude as you can be. He had his speech all ready for us! He knew we would complain about the gas gauge and asked if we read the contract. He thinks he knows what he can and cannot get away with. DO NOT RENT FROM CAPTAIN BOBS! He is a scam artist in business for too many years and takes the beauty of Lake George away! We feel bad for his poor daughter who works behind the counter and must hear customers complaining all day long...
Captain Bob could not have treated my boyfriend and I more rude than he did. He refused to answer our simple questions about the kayak rates and clearly did not care about having us as customers. We even experienced him yelling at his employee over another dispute with customers. Highly recommend NOT going here.
Rented a large pontoon from Captain Bob the week of 8/19/17. Pick up was timely and staff working for Bob were nice - they ran into us on the lake during the week and were friendly. We had noticed fairly early on that our pontoon had a bent frame that held the canvas top. We didnt think much of it as there were many similar issues with the boat - leather seating seams coming apart, tears in the canvas top, etc. Boat ran fine, but it was clearly weathered. We had reviewed the boat and noted some things were damaged upon check out, but the bend in the frame was perfectly placed where another piece of the framing clasped to it- it looked almost natural at first glance- and we hadnt seen it (see the attached photo, taken the moment we returned from the marina to our rental and began loading the boat for the first time). We dropped off the boat in a timely manner on friday 8/25, settled up and left. Got a phone call about 30 min later that we had damaged the boat; we hadnt, so we went back to the marina to see what was up. This was our first time interacting with Captain Bob himself and every scathing review that youve read about his attitude and extreme rudeness is 100% on point. Bob claimed that we had bent the frame. He suggested that we had run into something or had violently attempted to move/lower the frame. Of course, neither of these things had happened and we tried our best to rationalize with the man - he essentially barked over us any time we attempted to talk. It was an incredibly frustrating interaction and absolutely screamed of fraud. Unfortunately, the earliest picture we have of the boat (proving that the damage already existed) was the first time we loaded up the boat to use it and the photo was taken back at our rental, NOT at the marina (again, see attached photo). Bob says hes going to charge us 150 dollars to replace the bent awning frame piece, but that it will actually cost him more to fix it.... huh? This dude is clearly scamming us. I wonder how many customers hes the same line on.Long story short: if you do have to rent from Captain Bob, make sure youre scrutinizing every detail during the initial boat review AND take many, many pictures. Better yet, dont rent here and improve your life points by never having to interact with Captain Slob.
Had a wonderful experience. Brought the misses out on the lake and it was such a wonderful time. Bob was super helpful and actually pretty friendly. The staff in the office was very friendly and there was an adorable dog running around that we couldnt get enough of.I would totally recommend Bobs to anyone, certainly better than some of the other options. We went to Chics first, because we had lunch at the Algonquin (food was meh, but couldnt beat the drinks and view). The boats at Chics were old and seemingly dated, not exactly what I was looking for to have a romantic cruise with mlady. We decided to check out Bobs before heading back down to the village to check other places for boats and we were pleasantly surprised. The views from the property were out of site, were actually going back later this summer to stay at the resort there as well. The boats were in great shape and seemed well maintained. I could tell Bob was busy but he still took the time to let us know all the rules and was even joking with us. They provided us with life vests and even suggested some secluded spots for us to check out, it was pretty perfect. All in all it was a wonderful day and were really looking forward to heading back there later this summer. If youre looking for a great time on Lake George, some fun in the sun, rest and relaxation, and all at a reasonable price, definitely check out Capt. Bobs.
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE who will try to charge for damages that were already there. This disgrace of an establishment tried to charge an extra $5500 for damages that were already on the boat and were noted on the rental contract. We called the police who informed us that they have been at his establishment numerous times for similar complaints. We will be seeing this winner in court and recommend anyone to Decide on NO BOAT rather than being left with a bill where you can essentially buy one. STAY FAR FAR AWAY.
I am writing this review to warn all prospective customers about Captain Bob. We rented a pontoon boat for four hours this summer. I have rarely dealt with a more rude service operator. He was rude when the reservation was made by telephone, but at least he called me back to apologize. Therefore I kept the reservation. When docking the boat we bumped the dock, as he made no effort to help his worker assist us. This resulted in a minor ding in the aluminum bumper. When I commented how rude he was to my party and me ,his response was that while he was going to fix the bumper for $75, but since I didn’t like his attitude, he was going to charge me for an entire new bumper.
Avoid if you can, pretty sure theyre intentionally scamming folks. We did receive a functional boat with the expected wear and tear, but we could get that anywhere on the lake without having to deal with this owner. They rushed us through the boat sign out and damage check portion under the guise that of getting us out on the water quickly. What we thought was normal wear and tear ended up be an up-charge item upon return. Bob was rude and combative when we pointed out that we received the boat in that fashion indicative of bullying his way further into our wallets. Bob claims he inspects every boat and never misses a thing, if that is the case then he is intentionally sending out damaged boats, hoping the renters miss the damage upon initial inspection and then can up-charge upon return. I would guess the same damage gets paid for by multiple renters until it is finally repaired. Again anyone can rent you a boat, apparently only some can do so with some decency, avoid if you can.
STAY AWAY!! RACIST RUDE PEOPLE!! We showed up for a reservation with my baby and puppy in tow. There are no signs or postings online no dogs allowed. The moment I stepped out of my vehicle, they sent their pitbull after my 5 pound dog. My puppy got bitten by their vicious dog. They were screaming racist comments like lunatics. I wasnt sure what hit us. I just ran back to the car and left immediately. These are dangerous nasty people. They are full of hatred! Not a safe place to take a family on vacation.
If I could give no stars then I would. We pre-ordered a pontoon for Friday, Aug 7th weeks in advance. We arrived for pick-up and was informed there was no boat. After a tirade of four letter words as to why the marina didn’t have a boat for us and why he was too busy to call we left without a boat. Terrible experience
If I could give him less than one star I would. We reserved a boat for a family reunion during Labor Day weekend. The morning of our reservation we had 13 people on our way to Captain Bobs when we received a call while in our car that the boat we reserved is no longer available. We told them we had 13 people on the way and they said there was nothing they could do. When I got upset and asked if there were other boats available (and if not what could be done to compensate the 13 people on our way), they hung up on me. My husband then called back and they said they dont need to put up with angry people and hung up on him! Needless to say nothing was resolved and we were not compensated for their issue. There are plenty of choices for boat rentals in the area, so I would advise everyone to choose another location to go boating with-if something should go wrong with your reservation Captain Bob does not care and wont make good on it.
Rented a pontoon for the weekend and couldnt have asked for a better experience. Bob did a great job of covering all the bases and giving us a layout of all the islands. The boat ran great and was kept very clean. The deckhand went out of his way to help us on return trips, without us even asking. Great business all around.
Run Away from This Place!!!!I cant put it in words my disappointment! I dont typically write negative reviews but I just feel that I have to share my experience because this one simply crossed all red lines! We paid for a boat and a couple of parking spots. When we arrived, I started to unload my trunk and all of sudden an old white guy came over and started to yell at us; keep saying you have to pay for parking or I kick you out of this property! We tried to explain that we are customers; we already paid and just want to put our stuff into the boat but he raised his voice even more and started to use an extremely rude, confrontive and racist language! I was shocked and simply asked his name(I wanted to go to his manager); then he became even more angry and things got more ugly. He was saying he himself is the owner but I seriously I doubt that; I cant understand how a business owner can be so rude and stupid!Anyway, do yourself a favor and consider another place in case you are looking to relax and enjoy your time.
Showed up to celebrate my husband’s birthday with our friends and family and they had no boat for us! No solution offered, not a phone call to let the 14 of us know and not an apology. Just a really nasty man looking to then charge us an insane amount for two small boats. Such a disappointment and a jerk. Never use this place
Had a great time on the boat but dealing with Captain Bob was frustrating. The boat was nice and was a fun time for the family. The price was good in comparison with other rental places in Lake George. I give it two stars because of the experience I witnessed. Their customer service is terrible. I was lucky enough to pay in full over the phone with my credit card the day before but a family who was actually staying at the resort reserved a full day but didnt pay and when she came that morning there were no boats available. Please note that the she offered to leave her credit card as a deposit but was told it was not necessary. They were so uncompassionate to her and really didnt think it was a big deal. The front desk was rude to her and literally said there was nothing they can do these things happen and would appreciate if she take it up with someone else since there is nothing she can do and didnt not want to listen to this anymore. When you are on vacation you plan your days accordingly and I would expect a company to accommodate, give a discount or at least try and make it up to them. I understand all companies sometimes over rent due to multiple employees taking orders but it was their mistake. In addition my rental was a half day, 4 hours, and should have been 9-1pm. Because of the contrerversay with the other family it took longer for me to get out and didnt leave till 10am. I was only given until 1:30pm to return instead of 2pm. I understand that I should have been there 15 min ahead of time for extra time to check in but again due to their mistake with the other family my trip was shorten. When boarding the boat captain bob is rude and very dismissive to your questions. He is extremely perticular of ever scratch, dent, and stain on the boat. When dealing with someone like this and with his demeanor, you are very nervous what extra costs you may incur when docking the boat back even for a slight spill of a drink. I also witness his management with his workers and I would be surprised if his turnever rate wasnt extremely high. The way you treat your employees is a reflection of you and your company. As a word of caution, you must return the boat with the exact amount of gas to have over charge. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to do this. The gas station has many boats and jet skis filling up so it took us 45 minute to refeul. In the end, my trip turned out well but I am not a fan of companies with poor customer service regardless of their prices.
Called a few different times (not all at once) as I was doing research on finding a boat to rent for a day, and each time I called the owner was rude and unfriendly. The boat had everything we were looking for (speakers, speed, etc.) but we did not book due to the customer service.
The man should have his business license pulled. I walked into his shop and he was on a personal call swearing quite a bit using the F word. Personally I dont mind but I had my 6 year old daughter with me. We were waiting outside for the rest of my party to arrive and we could continue to hear him swear up a storm. I asked him if he could cut down on the 4 letter words as theres a child within ear shot. Thats when he became irate and came out from behind his desk. Apparently, there were other google reviews posted on the same day this took place which demonstrate that he was behaving similarly. Do not go near this man.
Renting online was simple and easy. Talking to them on the phone was informative and pleasant. Checking in was a little half-hazard. Getting on the boat was also a little unpleasant. The process seemed unorganized. Going over the boat was smooth. Staff was always friendly. Boats are prime. New and beautiful. Expectations were met. I highly recommend going here.
This guy is a straight up scam artist. There was slight damage to the canopy frame of the boat that was there from the outset and you would have never noticed until you tried to take it down. Of course Captain Bob rushed us out of the marina after signing condition papers. Well when we did bring it back he called us a half an hour later, wouldnt say what the damage he was charging us for was over the phone. We drove back and it was the bent frame! He would not take no for an answer and he had our CC number so not much we could do. He was nice enough to only charge us $150 which was less than it would cost to fix in his words (Im guessing everyone who rents the boat gets this same charge). If you have any other option, please rent from somewhere else on the lake (although Im guessing this type of experience will be universal). At the very least, take pictures of every bit of the boat like you were renting an apartment.
Ditto to the bad reviews. Captain Bob is brusque and rude. Most of the time. There was no room at his own dock when we were cut short and returned in the rain about 9am so were forced to let two people off to repark two cars and had to discharge our stuff at a different marina. I drive a 60 foot craft on SF bay from time to time and know boats and underwater hazards. Despite not having the slightest close call I was charged for a nearly impercepible mid blade waver in the prop which looked good at first inspection -leaning over the back wirth Bob. Waver was in mid blade area not at tip proving no grounding had occurred nor was there a nick. He could not have been more unpleasant as he insisted on charging extra $58 on top of the $1070 for a three day. Not surpised to see many other bad reviews on Google etc...
I rented a pontoon with my family when I was recently on vacation in Lake George, Captain Bob was very friendly when checking us in, the doc staff was very patient, the boats were all clean and well maintainedKeep in mind you have to take the boat for minimum 4 hours and its a little further down the road but based on my experiences its well worth it - thank you Captain Bob my family really had a good timePs. If youre fishing in Lake George all you need is some nightcrawlers
This place was the worst place I have ever been. Owner and staff are extremely rude and found out that I was not the only one that thought the same. Many of the patrons discussed and argued the same opinions. My bags were stolen from what I found out was the staff. I also researched and found out that most of the positive reviews were made from owners family and friends. This place is a total scam and would not recommend it to anyone. Don’t take my word for it but pleeeeaaase beware.
One horrible owner with super rude mouth and horrible family staff. They will try to find ways to charge you extra on top of the hourly fee. They charge $50 less then other rental places but they will get you charged double that savings, every question you ask ends up to be a very offensive remark.
Went out with a group of 16 and was accommodated with a 300 hp pontoon boat. Got the map for cliff diving and water attractions but not very good indications of where they were. The tube was a bit small for the adults and being that we were the first group of the day there was some leftover pepperoni in the cupholder on the table.
Do not rent from this place! The owner and staff are very rude and unhelpful. The all have an I dont care attitude. They are not willing to reason or change their view, and will turn your fun day on the lake into a terrible one.Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else.
Havent even booked with this business. Didnt get past the rude employess when asking about the rates. Just You could book the whole day, you can book the whole day? Oh you dont want the whole day. Oh. Well. Goodluck. Bye.Yes. Bye. Ill be taking my business elsewhere as you should too.

2022-06-26Renting from Captain Bob is great until something goes wrong. His contract basically says the renter accepts full financial responsibility if something happens, regardless of fault, and at the end of the day he can charge you whatever he wants for gas, parts, or repairs. When we rented our boat for our four day rental, he was friendly enough. On a windy day we got blown into rocks while docking and our propeller hit a rock. We were able to get the boat back to Bob and get a replacement boat to finish our trip. However, Bob then charged our card $3k to repair/replace the lower unit without speaking to us and before our rental even ended. Who knows what it actually costs but a $2k boat rental turned into $5k and Bob turned nasty. We went back to Bobs to look at the piece that was broken so we can see how much it actually costs and Bob was cursing at my husband and assaulted him when we tried to take pictures. I would never rent from Bob again. Sometimes things goes wrong and in this case you want to make sure youve rented from a reputable company with good customer service.

2021-06-24Everything was fantastic, except for the wait. We loved the ride, of course the lake is beautiful. We arrived 15 mins before 9am but we waited close to an hour until we got our boat.

2021-08-17More like Lousy Bob’s. Bob treats his customers horribly and “doesn’t care” about safety after sending us out without an anchor, which was not a pleasant experience. After challenging him on this he chose to not only raise his voice but insist that nothing was his problem and use every swear in the book. Also told us to fill the gas tank, which was mysteriously still at “full” after using it for a couple hours. Would give -5 stars if I could, DON’T give him your business!

2021-08-01*Renters Beware*The day started out fine with a decent boat, about 3 hours into our 4 day rental, it broke down and Bob refused to own the problem. He wont stray from his contract to satisfy a customer.Read his contract, the screenshots are with this review. Make sure youre ok with all of his terms before giving him a dime!Bob will not help you when his rental boat breaks down. Hes extremely Unprofessional and so his is daughter Christine. They do nothing to accommodate the customer when theres a problem, instead they will hurl profanities in an attempt to bait you into a fight, look at Bobs history, he was arrested in 2020 for pulling a gun on a customer. Once he has your credit card, youre out of luck.See the photos I posted of the replacement rental boat I was given after our first boat broke. Absolute disaster!Scott

2022-07-05Bob is a terrible person with a terrible attitude, read the reviews, stay away... the people with 5 star ratings did not interact with the owner. He charged our card thousands of dollars for minor damage that the dock guys said happens with alost every boat. YOU DESERVE WHAT YOU GET IF YOU RENT FROM HIM

2019-07-21Thanks to Captain Bob’s, our first ever family vacation to lake George was a complete success! It wouldn’t have been the same without the wonderful service that Christina provided! She is a simply beautiful human being. We had booked with another boat rental service and when we went there, we were told there was no boat booked and none available. We thought our morning was ruined. We called captain bobs and Christina was able to immediately help us out! We arrived and were received with open arms. The entire process was smooth sailing. The boat was beautiful and so much fun ! We even went tubing for the first time ! I highly recommend it. You can’t beat the experience we had and it was all because of the service Captain Bob, Christina, Corey and the team provided us. Thank you for the perfect boating experience ! We will definitely be back. Choose Captain Bob’s !!

2021-08-27Thank you so much for making our day trip and boating experience at Lake George amazing! We had the best day ever. We rented a 24 pontoon boat and there were 12 of us on board and it was so fun. The check in process was super easy since we booked online, the boat was clean. The crew at Captain Bobs was very helpful and kind, they explained everything, had the kids try on the life vests to make sure it was a good fit and they went over all the information needed. Even when we had a hard time parking the boat at the end of the day the dock manager was super helpful and guided us the whole way and even hopped on and helped us out!! We brought food, drinks and had a blast.thanks again Captain Bobs!!

2021-09-02Bob was super accommodating. Someone in our party booked the day after and they wound up fitting us in that afternoon. Gave us all safety equipment and taught us how to work the pontoon boat. This was our children’s favorite day in lake George. The boat was clean and beautiful and totally worth the money spent. We swam off the back of the boat. Only thing is at 9 am without a mask in the office the owners were a little cranky. Regardless all in all wonderful experience!

2021-08-29Captain Bobs was recommended to us by a friend who has used them for years. Sign in was very quick and easy. We drove up pretty close to the dock. The employees got us on the boat even before we could leave which helped settle the kids. The employees move quickly and got us out on thr lake as quick as they could. The pontoon boat and tube were in excellent condition and had no problems. You do have to fuel up yourself but they actually allows you to pay for only what you use. Overall, very happy.
