Great first experience, super quick and easy! The ONLY thing I did not like was I paid $200 for a car to be delivered and I was not able to get because it was “broken” and didn’t get no refund. I think the car should be inspected BEFORE making a customer pay the $200 delivery fee
They were great to work with, until purchase day. Spoke with at least 7 people prior to that day, about all my paperwork and making sure things were all set. Received a call just under 2 hours before my appt to pick up my truck, they had a problem with my paperwork and needed to rerun the financing, which did not go thru. At least they called before I drove the hour out to them again, but still... couldnt your departments talk to each other!??
I went to this CarMax to help my elderly Mom sell her vehicle cuz she is done with driving. I did some research online and got a couple other offers, and CarMax hit what we wanted to take for her car the first time. In about an hour, we walked in and then walked out with a check. They are straightforward and fair.
First of all I want to say that I have had a lot of experience with buying and selling cars with Carmax. I have had great experiences with them in St.Louis and multiple locations in Florida. I went into the Rochester location thinking I would have the same experience. It was a rough start. I had some issues with an estimate that I got and some misinformation from one of the call center reps. I didn’t get the customer service that I wanted at first so I called customer service and they reached out to the store to remedy the confusion. Jeff, the manager, called me within 24 hours and was very kind and helpful and resolved the issue. I went in and worked with Mert, who was so friendly and wonderful to work with. All in all it ended up being a good experience and I would go back and recommend them. If they had not helped me out this would have been a different review. Thank you Jeff and Mert!
The worst car buying and ownership experience EVER! CarMax sold me a 2015 Hyundai Tucson with 74,000 miles on it, but did not disclose that the vehicle had a faulty engine. I drove the car for just six weeks before the engine seized up and the vehicle lost all power. I had to have it towed at my own cost. I called CarMax for support or to at least honor the NYS LEMON LAW and they refused. They told me that I was on my own. They had my money and the sale of the faulty vehicle and they turned their backs on me. I am now making payments on a vehicle that is undriveable. I am considering legal action as well as contacting the NYS Attorney Generals office and the Better Business Bureau.
I got an instant quote on one day, went up to them the next, I was greeted well, taken care of swiftly, given what they promised they would give me! What a great place to do business ! They truly exceeded my expectations to the MAX ! Highly recommended ! And if you a buyer these guys got tons of cars !!!!!!
The car buying experience is really good and low pressure. Mostly, if you have an idea of what make and model you are looking for, but you need to see the car for yourself before you buy it, Carmax is a great choice. I paid a few hundred dollars to ship it from the Virginia store to the closest Carmax store, (it arrived at the store almost a week before the estimate time!). I lived in a rural spot, so I still had to drive quite a bit to get there, but they said if I lived within half an hour they could also drive to meet me. Note: if you live in PA and go to a NY store/dealer, you will still have to go to a notary in PA to handle the rest of your paperwork/plates. So I would have shipped the car to a PA Carmax and then get everything done on one day.
CarMax overall was a wonderful experience. At first I was reluctant, buying a car from another state, having to invest in a delivery fee, without seeing it. I could not find the car I wanted locally, it seemed CarMax was the best solution. After studying reviews of other on-line car dealers, I decided I would go with CarMax, they had the best references, sold the most cars in a year by far.CarMax’s process was flawless, see my experience below:Find the car you want at CarMax.com then;1). Press the field that reserves the car to you, enter your name, phone # and email address, then submit. Now no one can purchase the car its N/A (not available) on line to all others seeing it for 7 days.2). They call you right away from GA.3). Takes about 30 minutes to qualify over the phone for financing and/or you can use your bank. They asks questions on whether you want new plates or plate transfers, a car trade in you may want to do, etc. They will email your questions about the new used car to the CarMax store its located at like, does it smell? how is the tire rubber? Any dents/scratches I can’t see in the on-line pictures? Does it run smooth? Shimmy? etc. and they get back to you. Then you pay the delivery fee on a credit card.3). Wait for your car to arrive at the CarMax store near you. CarMax will notify you when it arrives.4). Walk in their store, pay for the car and drive away.The positives: they fill the gas tank and change the oil. I would shop at their store any time. They have all kinds of cars imaginable and they are coming and going out of the store all the time from people around the country doing what I did.The negative: they do not detail the car they just wash and vacuum, no wax.
I went in yesterday at 6:30pm for an “ express pick up “ which turned out I had to wait over 45 minutes due to some paperwork they needed on their end. I confirmed all my information was correct each time I uploaded something via online and I was told everything looked great online and I was all set to go in. Mind you I was driving 45minutes to an hour to get to Carmax. I met with Jimmy P. and that was the worse thing ever, I was not able to walk out with the vehicle after being told I was all set online. Jimmy made it seem like my paystubs were fake and wanted more information then he needed. I had no issue doing so, as I called to get information sent over to me he would get on his phone, as me and my daughter would try to have a conversation with him he was texting on his phone which was not professional at all. Some of my documents I uploaded Jimmy said they were not able to use but turned around and gave me a Carmax paper that said I was able to use those documents “ joke right “. I do wish to keep my business with Carmax.. UPDATE I WENT BACK 3/29 AND CHUCKY AND MATT HELPED ME THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE PROCESS AND IT WAS AWESOME! They are literally the best! Please go to CarMax and ask for them personally. You won’t regret it.
I was searching for a Mini Cooper S with JCW Package with low miles and they found me one. Took 6 months to find one but I’m super happy!! Didn’t need a warranty since my plans were to build it to a full racecar. Thank you for working with me!! Nick Costa and Mert were my salespersons and were awesome!!
Once again, I had a fantastic experience with CarMax! It was fast and easy once I got in. This will be my second time selling a car to CarMax and I would recommend it to ANYONE.Now, I did have some issues with moving my appointment. I was told it was moved and it turned out it was not. But outside of that issue, I am still very happy. The offer I got for my car was VERY good and I am sooo relieved and grateful that I was able to sell my car without much time and energy.I am a happy customer!
Our entire experience with Carmax in Henrietta was really great. From our initial greetings when we walked in to the final handshake when we left with a check in our hands. It was really professional. We were very happy with the price we got for my car, which was also a great buy for Carmax. It was in excellant condition.
The dealer who helped us out was amazing - he was attentive, answered all of our questions, and was able to get us what we needed easily. It was easy to do my appraisal, test drive some cars, and complete the sale of my car. I didnt feel any pressure in any way, just supported.My only concern was that there were many customers in the building without masks on. This made me uncomfortable as an immune compromised person, and Car Max should require masking in order to make the experience as safe as possible for all customers.
If I could give negative stars I would. We had a car shipped from VA to Rochester that we wanted. We had purchased the car online and had everything all set to pick up and trade in. Carmax hid damage on the car from us, and did not show the car until after they had taken our trade in. When we noticed the damaged parts on the new car, they said they would fix it, but would have to give us a rental. We were traveling for the holidays so decided to take the new car anyway and come back to get it repaired. When we came back to service the car (as they had promised) they had no record of the service they promised us. So now we are getting the car fixed on our own dime.DO NOT TRUST CARMAX. Worst car buying experience I’ve ever had- and I have worked in the automotive space and have worked with many car dealerships over the years.
Daequon was very knowledgeable and courteous throughout the entire process, he made the transaction actually enjoyable! The offer was amazing, I wouldn’t have received much if any more money had I gone through the hassle of selling my truck privately. No games, no nonsense, straight forward transaction. I will definitely consider selling another vehicle to Carmax. Great job!
This was my third car purchase at CarMax. I keep returning because the process is simple, and the sales reps are always courteous and efficient. My sales rep Boice was very helpful in walking me through the process, and also in helping me to choose the correct level of MaxCare, based on my needs. He also was very understanding on what was, for me, a very difficult day, and made the sales experience fast and pleasant. My only complaint is that I am now having touch-screen and engine light-on issues (possible software update needed, as the cause), and was surprised that this wasn’t taken care of before I purchased the vehicle, since the car was in-house at CarMax Rochester for a week, before they called me to come test-drive it. The Service department did offer to get me in at the end of the month, and if that didn’t work, to call a local dealer, to see if I could get in sooner. I have scheduled an appointment to get this taken care of, on the premise that CarMax will be covering any costs of diagnosis, repair, and loaner, as explained to me when I called, since I am still working 30 days of purchasing the vehicle. I have yet to receive a call-back from the Business Office with a confirmation of this- or P.O. to be sent to the dealer- but I remain confident that CarMax will honor their word, based on my previous experiences. Aside from these issues (which can hopefully be easily and painlessly corrected by the dealer), this most recent experience has been a smooth one, and I was very satisfied with Anand and Boice’s support and professionalism. I also love my new Jeep!
Process was easy from start to finish. Matt was an awesome help too, not pushy but did exactly what he told me he would. I found my car online, had it transferred in from NH and there wasnt a single hiccup. Good communication, great follow up and the car got here within days in perfect condition. Longest part was the paperwork and I still drove out of there within a couple hours.
First I got on your website and filled in the information on my vehicle. You made an offer and I brought my car in and an hour later I received my check for exactly the amount of the offer. I was expecting to get high balled but wasnt at all. I was totally blown away by the entire process!
I had a great experience from the phone conversations and in person. The facility was clean and very spacious. The greeter was kind and professional. I had a wonderful time looking for the SUV that would fit me best. I’m a proud customer and most definitely I’ve told many of my friends about Carmax.
The call center set up our appointment incorrectly. They assured us they cha fed it, but when I went into the store they said I didn’t have an appointment and that the wait time would be 3 hours. Staff at the store proceeded to tell me that they don’t like how the call center does business (I don’t care). They were able to purchase my car in 1.5 hours instead of 3, although that still didn’t satisfy my appointment dilemma. The sales person was clearly new to the company. He was friendly, but not knowledgeable about the basic forms and/or the process.
I honestly had the best experience with car max than any other dealership. They were very open and honest about the cars they sell. Their customer service is some of the best Ive ever experienced. And everyone was super nice and friendly. Definitely would recommend going to see them when looking to purchase used vehicle!
A relaxing & hassle free experience. it was nice looking at cars at my leisure & not having a sales person follow you around the lot. so many great cars to choose from. my sales rep Terri was eager to help me when I needed it and thoroughly explained the whole process from finding my car to driving it off the lot. thanks again CarMax...!
We had decided that we did not need 3 cars and wanted to sell our Toyota Corolla. I did not know where to start to do this. I found Car Max, input all the information about my car, and received a quote immediately that was valid for 7 days. I was happy with the quote and made an appointment to take the car out. I have to say that I was expecting them to change the offer once I got there. But it was seamless. I presented my offer, they checked my car over and handed me a check for the exact price they quoted me. I was extremely happy with the experience and would highly recommend them.
I purchased a 2014 AudiTTs from CarMax and was very impressed and pleased with the process and the price. I knew all the info about the car to do comparisons and ended up with this fantastic car at a great price with not one second of stress! There is NO pressure, and only courteous people at CarMax. I signed up online for a test drive and found out later that they pull the car from the lot and remove it from the internet site, so no one can buy it from under you. WHO does that. I was so impressed. I did not trade a car in but am sure they are pretty fair, as everything seemed non con-frontal Great place to find and purchase a car!!!I would positively do it again....
A great staff that is informative, friendly, and didn’t feel any pressure! They simply helped guide me through my journey on finding on what would be a good recommendation for me. Along with shopping for a vehicle, they appraised my vehicle quick with a strong offer that was FREE & valuable to what my car was worth! They have a ton of financing options, and a warranty that makes me feel secure. It was a remarkable experience & a smooth process!
The concept of this place seemed wonderful, information (if you can believe it) organized, etc. I made an appointment, came on time etc. Overall, the sales associate was completely useless, and I walked away with a negative impression. Certainly he was not pushy-just the opposite- clueless about almost all the inventory, and definitely could not answer any of my questions. I was not interested in dealer financing which might explain his complete lack of interest. (He was a nice enough guy, just not the least bit helpful in any way, nor did he seem to be the least bit knowledgeable or even interested in....cars. lol).
WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE OUT THERE:To reach this location by phone takes over 3 hours and it’s all done through a call center. There is no way to DIRECTLY call this Rochester location.Also if you want to put a deposit down on your car you need a CHECK. Apparently they don’t know how to do a routing and account # wire transfers.AWFUL experience. We bought a luxury vehicle and had to wait over 2 weeks to be contacted as it just sat at the location because it is so badly managed.If you want to be FRUSTRATED go here. Not smooth. Not up to date.
I went into Carmax with very little hope of resolving a big issue of not having a POA from a private seller (NOT carmax!!). Carmax happened to be listed in previous sales paperwork, so I figured I’d stop in.Aryn was the associate who came to help us and was so beyond pleasant to work with. She very quickly calmed me down and went into action. She arranged/made phone calls, dug through old boxes of paperwork, and ultimately saved the day.As a business manager, it’s so rare to find employees who genuinely make the customer feel like they care and Aryn did just that. STAR of an employee; I’ll definitely be back!!!!
CarMax them pricing to much higher than the market and more than Carvana!! Look for this picture!! Lexus rc f sport at CarMax and 2020 and 4K miles and no LED light asking for $55,998 !!And same the car but 2021 f sport lower mileage and dose have LED head lights and Cherry red color and white interior they asking for $55,595 !! Sure if am buyer I will go to Carvana!!
The process of buying a car at Car max is fantastic. You can actually shop the country for the car that fits your needs and preferences. The process isnt pushy and the cars are priced fairly with great warranty and service after the sale. It takes the used car business to a whole new level of trust and integrity. Well... I did an online offer to buy my car outright. And scheduled an appointment. Not sure the appointment mattered, it was still about 45 minutes before being seen. After that, it went about as expected at a car dealership. Be prepared to sit and wait. But they checked out my car, re appraised and have me the same price I was expecting. So, a lot of sitting for 2.5hrs to sell a car, but in the end I got the check I was expecting/hoping for...

You have control over your selection. CarMax employees are the best at guiding you throughout the entire experience. I’m extremely happy with my car!
Ive been in the market for a used car and discovered CarMax. The initial part of the process was handled by phone- evaluating my trade-in and applying for financing was quick and easy.I located a vehicle and had it transferred to the Rochester store. The car was picked up the day after I requested it and arrived a week later. All that remains before I can test drive it is a NYS inspection.Its been a week and the car is still waiting. I called the store hoping to schedule a test drive for soon after the inspection was completed. I was told that the car is not yet inspected and they couldnt give me an ETA around which I could plan.UPDATE: I visited CarMax in person last Friday and worked with a salesperson. They were friendly and helpful, and advocated for my car purchase with the service department. The car got inspected that day and I completed my purchase without issue on the next day.Overall the process was smooth. Because if already completed financing and trade-in online, purchase consisted of providing the proper documentation (drivers license, insurance, and title for my trade-in) and signing the relevant forms. Im thrilled to be driving my new vehicle and would recommend CarMax in the future.
Was not very good. Waited extended periods of time I was at the dealership because of their errors. About four hours. Then when I took delivery after waiting longer than normal because the car still was not finished being detailed it was still dirty when I did get it. Had dust on instrument clusters and bottle cap under driver seat. The oil change light was also on which I was assured was going to be addressed and never was. Good vehicle so far but poor service over all.
The entire process was super easy. I walked in test drive a few cars and a couple hours later I walked out keys in hand. They make sure you understand everything. They were all so nice. They made sure I had the car I wanted. They made sure it was at the price I needed. I would definitely go back and get another car in the future. It was a awesome experience. Thank you Carmax.
CarMax was a very enjoy experience! I HIGHLY recommend going to either Jeff or Rachel! I worked with Jeff on the actual experience of buying the car and he was beyond amazing and helpful. Worst experience ever. First car I bought was a 2018 ford focus, which had to brought back in 2 days of driving .I brought it to a Ford dealership and they said yes the transmission was slipping . They return that car for us to purchase another ford focus 2017 . Definitely made sure I test drove ..drove that car for 2 days and the car shook and quit on me while I was driving. Battery light came on ..ughh took it to someone again and the pile of corrosion on the terminal was about an inch thick or so . I was mortified and was like how do they sell these cars like this. Granted they fixed it but geesh. Literally there for at least 6hrs each time and had to go back 4 other times because I cant call and talk to anyone from the store in Henrietta NY .only a call center... Never again !! Horrible
I am not sure what happened at this location but very upset with my recent purchase. I have purchased 4 cars from CarMax and this is the first problem I have had with them and I feel bad even posting this, however I am very upset. I purchased a Jeep Cherokee on 04/19. Not even out of the lot and heard a loud clunking noise upon turning left out of the service bay. The sales associate verified and sent me home 4/19 without a vehicle. The next day 4/20 I was provided with a loaner (Nissan rogue). Had no diagnosis on my vehicle as of 4/20 when I picked up my loaner vehicle. Did not hear anything Wednesday or Thursday of last week finally sent my spouse in as no one would answer the phone All day and I could not get away from work to see if we could find out was going on with my car. Was told the car was at Vision being looked at. I had to make contact with vision on Friday to find out that my car needed wait for it..... rotors and strut mounts. It is now Wednesday 4/28 and I still do not have my car. They have no comparable cars to switch out with out paying a transfer fee and I am just beside myself. I thought the cars went through a CarMax When the gentleman called me Friday afternoon from Carmax to go over what vision found (which I already knew) I asked about the CarMax certification they said oh we are human and we miss things which I agree we are human and I am all about mistakes. What I am not about is how I have been ignored during the last several days and that I had to do leg work to find out what was wrong. Now to get a vehicle compariable because who wants a new vehicle that has been in the shop for 1.5 weeks waiting on parts I would have to pay a crazy transfer fee. So disappointed and frustrated. I have such a bad taste in my mouth after the past 1.5 weeks and I am unhappy with this purchase but nothing I can do about it!!!!!!!!
We bought a Nissan Armada from the Rochester NY store and had an excellent experience. The SUV itself is incredibly clean and well optioned and was reasonably priced compared to other outlets. Our salesperson, Matt Galiotti, was exceptional and followed up on a few questions we had before, during and after purchase. We are extremely pleased with the purchase.
My salesperson was easy to work with and the process was simple enough. It will take longer than you think. If you are prepared to buy and are trading in a car remember to bring the title. I paid too much for the registration and received a refund check quickly which was a pleasant surprise. Overall a good experience especially during these pandemic times.
A very long day...And now we got an email saying we need an oil change already, but the oil is clean. Apparently the person who changed the oil didnt reset the computer after.Im very thankful for our new car. Thankyou for purchasing our former vehicle so that we could afford this one.
Have had great experience with CarMax previously so recommended to my daughter she also had great experience. Recently went with my youngest and she picked out the vehicle and I Love it.Will recommend to others. Definitely will come back with no hesitation. Customer service are awesome. The entire process was amazing ❤️
I would give the Henrietta NY location 0 stars if possible. If youre looking to buy a car with very low miles and nothing but problems go there! I have had to have my car serviced at a separate dealership 5 times in the few months I have had the vehicle and all are things that are situations that could have been avoided if this location had an adequate if not subpar service department. I was given a car with no oil change and such a low amount I had to have the vehicle towed and inspected for engine damage and now am having tires replaced after being told the vehicle had its tires newly replaced prior to my purchase. I have now spend over $1000 dollars in repairs with a Jeep service department getting this car back on track. They have done nothing to assist in this headache of a process. I could not be more dissatisfied and ashamed I brought my hard earned money to this location to purchase a vehicle.
We just bought a vehicle, so I can say nothing to the longevity of the particular vehicle. However the car buying experience here was awesome. Very low pressure, easy to deal with people. We did bring a car in from out of state, and it was well represented in the online photos and vehicle history report. Overall I probably spent 3 hours here, one hour for test drive and looking it over. And about 2 hours on the next visit to get everything signed and take the van home. The entire team at this store was very friendly and awesome to deal with. Nothing bad to say!
How can I start. What a truly amazing car buying experience. What a nice change of pace. After going to two other dealerships and being so frustrated with experience my experience at Carmax was incredible. I’d recommend her to anybody. Matt was a professional through and through and handled everything with speed and accuracy
I ended up looking online saved a car I liked which was a 2016 Ford Fusion. I got a call the next day to come in. I was greeted with friendly staff who led me to my salesman. Who also was great. I remember his name but I don’t want to misspell his name. But he was very nice and attentive to my wants and needs. I love my new vehicle. I did have to bring it back for service on my brakes but that also was a pleasant experience I got in within a timely matter. It was within my 90 days so it was covered. That was a good feeling. They even had a shuttle to get me home and back to pick my car up. I enjoyed my experience with car max and I’d recommend them to people.
I’m a second time CarMax buyer. My first experience was awesome. Only problem I had was vehicle value compared to their sale price. July 2018... my second experience was terrible. Vehicle needs an alignment, I smell oil when the heat is on, brake reservoir was empty, I believe I need new shocks too. I still have the 3 month 4000 mile warranty I’m using it like crazy. Take advantage of it. Take it to the dealership. I’m taking mine to bmw. Their warranty. Mine as well use it
Bob was great and it was truly no hassle. The quote that was given to me online was honored and we were done signing paperwork in less than two hours. If they werent as busy bob would have gotten us taken care of sooner. All in all great experience and hope to do it again in the future.
It was very smooth and easy process I applied online got pre approved. They called me within 30 minutes to finish the process I got approved at a great interest rate we set an appointment for me to test drive the car I wanted. When I went in everyone was so friendly. I test drove the vehicle lovedIt and I was able to drive off with my new car the same day. I really recommend car max
We started our shopping on the, very user friendly, CarMax website. We drove an hour to the Henrietta CarMax location with 2 vehicles in mind. We saw and liked both of the vehicles we went to see, but saw several others that caught our eye. Our salesman, Steve, was well informed, and the rest of the staff was great! We drove away with our, new to us, 2016 Rogue the same day we went in. Since weve brought it home, we couldnt be happier with our choice knowing that we have the reassurance of the warranties that CarMax offers.
I worked here in 2016 and trusted Carmax process with used cars, so I brought my fiancé here to buy a car. She had just lost a 2012 Kia Sportage because the engine blew up on her and left her stranded on the side of the road and with a loan to pay, and she was afraid to buy again. I assured her that Carmax wouldn’t sell her a car like that. Well, we settled on a 2016 Ford Fusion with 59K. This was in November 2020. Two months later, the battery died and left her on the side of the road. Again. Then the ABS light came on the dash. Then a “Service AdvanceTrak” light came on the dash. The steering wheel tightened up randomly as she drove and would barely turn. Then a “Service Rear Park Aid” light came on the dash. Then lights started to randomly show on the dash to service things, then go away. This is all in 3 and a half months. I called Carmax corporate and was told an email would be sent to Adam Trescott, a sales manager and I would be contacted. Nobody contacted me. My next call is to the complaints department and I will fight this company on every level because I don’t appreciate being duped. We’ve made an appointment to take the car to a Ford dealer for service, with a $132 charge for each light on the dash diagnosis. This is going to cost us a lot of money for a car we bought less than 4 months ago. During the trauma of a pandemic my fiancé had one car blow up on her, and now Carmax sells us a car that is sitting in the yard right next to the blown engine Kia broken down. We’re still paying for both. Thanks Carmax.
The place is clean. They do not do commissions so dont worry about being ripped off. They do not negotiate the prices. I give it 3 stars because after purchasing my car on April 27, 2021. I had to go back to CarMax the next day April 25, 2021, my keyless remote said low battery. Well the Front Service Rep took my remote to the service area to replace the battery, well when I got home the indicator light came back on again with the same message. The next morning the remote would not work. I also didnt get an OWNER MANUAL. The same day I picked up the car, I was DRIVING and the car started LOSING POWER on the express way. I also brought this DANGEROUS problem to their attention. GET THIS, THE EARLIEST THEY CAN SEE MY CAR IS MAY 25, TWO DAYS BEFORE MY 30 DAYS IS UP FOR FULL RETURN OF THIS VEHICLE. Today May 2, 2021, I looked on YouTube about this problem. Nissan has a problem with the CVT TRASMISSION plus there is two recall on this vehicle, not sounding safe at all! I think I have changed my mind the car going back. Its not like I dont have another vehicle. I do like the fact I have 30 days to change my mind: update 5/29/21....on the 31st day after the 30 days my car would not start. The display said no key detected. I found out it was the car battery that died. I have had my whirlwind with this vehicle. NO ONE answers the phone at the Henrietta branch. You have to go in to get results. I had to call many many many times and left messages, that my car will not start. This is my first time owning a keyless entry vehicle and I hope it will be my last. I give Adam 10 stars and George 10 stars because they was willing and able to assist me. Thanks guys. The service department was not to my satisfaction. my car was very dirty and dusty when I picked it up. On May 25, 2021..,they claim they would give me a custom clean. They just vacuum my car and wipe it down. What a waste of time and a joke. Not happy at all. I could go on but I have to give them some credut.
We sold my sons 22 year old car for more than we thought we would get!! The guys that helped us were awesome!! After we realized my license was EXPIRED they helped me renew it online so we could still go through with the deal. How great is that!? We were there longer than I thought we would be, but it was TOTALLY worth it!
Terrible experience. Had a car brought in from new jersey. They lost the title during the transition. They never bothered to call or email or anything, just kept getting the same message about how the car was going through the pre sell inspection. Tried calling multiple times, not a single person picked up at the Rochester location. I kept getting transferred to their home office where I was assured someone would be in touch. No one over called. Eventually i show up at the location, to find at least 15 people working, again, no one answering the phone. I speak with Jimmy, who refunds me my transfer fee, finally, and then tells me they lost the title. And it will take it least 30 days for the new title to arrive. Mind you i reserved the vehicle 30 days ago and they have known they lost the title for 23 of those days, just no one did anything about it. We make an apt to meet with Jimmy the next day to look at inventory. We show up and Jimmy is to busy to take care of us. Someone else comes out who has no idea what we have already dealt with. Instead of taking us through inventory he looks online to show us that they do not have any vehicles that we may be interested in. So we leave. Final insult i drive past the parking lot that these folks were to lazy to walk us out too and see 4 different vehicles that we had asked about. Long story short lazy service, customer service doesnt exist, and they obviously dont care about reputation or repeat service. Total clown show. Oh I almost forgot when we asked to speak to a manager we were givej the same waste of time corporate number and how much they empathize with our situation. What a joke. Never coming back
Very relaxed and pleasant buying experience, totally different from traditional dealers where you get shunted from one person to the next while they ramp up the sales pressure.Our sales representative Boice was helpful and efficient throughout. We had a car shipped from another State, and had a trade-in, for which we received a price the online appraisal system. The appraisal system didnt work on my phone, but was easy to use on a computer.Bottom line, whether youre buying or selling a car (or both), Carmax keeps the process as smooth and easy as possible.
Tbh I was skeptical to get involved selling my vehicle to CM. I dont really leave reviews often, but Im sure glad to do so here. The online process was super simple, so it seemed to be too-good-to-be-true... I made the appointment, and waited for the day. My drive to CM was 90-mins, so I had a lot of time to think about the fine print that I must have missed. Upon arrival, the property was immaculate clean, sanitized and sparkled. The staff greeted me kindly and quickly sat me down for a review of my online submission and vehicle details. The process didnt take long @ 35-mins, I kept waiting for the bad news, but it just never developed. The CM staff were really nice and apologetic for it taking so long lol. They paid me EXACTLY what my original online quote was worth, and I walked out with a bank draft, all in less than 1-hour. This was a super easy way to sell your car, and I would definitely recommend to anyone. Ill be sure to be using CM in the future.
I met with George at CarMax when I went in to sell my car. He was very friendly and made the experience very simple for me. I was offered a very fair price for my car I thought as well. This is the second car I have sold to CarMax and will use then again in the future.
It was ok at best. The process was quick enough; however the car that was in the carmax lot has already gone into the shop multiple times with multiple problems that could have been avoided prior to the purchasing of the vehicle if they had just done a thorough inspection. Time wasted without a vehicle because of all these problems is a loss so far.
The folks at CarMax we’re great; however even after taking care of the financing over the phone the day before, we were still at the dealership for about 6 hours. Also, the 2017 Explorer needed up having substantial paint bubbling along the front edge of the hood. Fortunately our local Ford deer was able to submit a successful warranty claim to replace the entire hood, which saved me a 90 minute drive back to Rochester. Very disappointing that it was able to go out the door like this as I was under the impression that CarMax was very particular about their used vehicles.
This was out first purchase at CarMax. What’s wonderful experience. We drove 2 hours to the CarMax location. We did almost everything online and on the phone. We did the appraisal of our trade online and the offer didn’t differ when we got to the dealership. There was no pressure to purchase the vehicle once we got there. We drove home with our new truck within a couple of hours. We will definitely be purchasing more vehicles with CarMax!
Jake was very helpful and professional even when our insurance company dragged the process out nearly 4 hours. He helped us find a better way to finance the car and knew exactly what to say to the insurance company when they were being incompetent. He ended up even having to stay after his shift ended and was still nice and professional about it since neither us or carmax was at fault for that. The carmax side of things was very pleasant.
It took a week to ship a vehicle from Buffalo to Rochester, NY (Approx. 70 miles). Offered me $12k for a trade in only to tell me they made a mistake just before signing papers and could only give me $8k. Nothing special about their prices. Carmax touts a convenient and efficient process but theyre no different from any other used car dealer.
Had such a great buying experience. Everything went as smoothly as it could have gone with 0 hassle. Found a great truck at a great price and couldnt be happier. The salesman who did my paperwork with me was Siyad and he went above and beyond to help me out. Awesome work all around
Process was fine. Price was 3k high (but was exactly what we had been looking for). Detailing was awful. During test drive we mentioned the old pretzels in the door and garbage under the seat. Bought and detailed again they said... still had to have it detailed afterwards. Paying 40k for a vehicle i think it should have been cleaned out.
Best experience buying a car ever! The entire staff there was great. Brian was an awesome salesman, Kim and Mandy in the finance department were great as well. I didn’t get everyone’s names but the entire staff was fantastic to work with. Even the guy who brought my car into the garage had a smile on and told me congrats. Will only being getting my cars from CarMax from now on!!
I went on Tuesday to purchase a vehicle. I got the sales of bill ready with CarMax. Everything was complete. I only needed approval from my credit union to approve the loan amount. When I returned on Thursday the car was already on hold for another customer despite the company’s 72hour hold policy. Very unprofessional. Even when I was speaking with the manager she was speaking in a tone as if I was in the wrong for asking why they didn’t follow their hold policy and why they are having it on hold for another customer.
The buying experience was awesome. I had the car shipped from down south and that went well. I could have used a little more communication from car max, but in the end I got the car in the time frame it was promised. My biggest issue was with the service department. The car had a blemish that we found when inspecting the car before buying it. We were told Carmax would fix it, but it took a lot of back and forth before they agreed to fix it properly. Once again the communication was less than acceptable. When someone says theyll get back to me in the morning, I expect a call in the morning...I should not have to call several times. Once again in the end it turned out well, but who needs the hassle. I would definitely recommend CarMax for a used car purchase, but look the vehicle over well before you sign on the dotted line.
I was recommended Carmax by friend, who had gotten a good deal through them. So after traveling due to work, which subsequently left me without a vehicle for a month I decided to give it a try. At first the process was easy, found a vehicle that I liked...thats where it ends. So after doing all the paperwork for the vehicle, they inform me I need to pay a transfer fee. Not a big deal, its worth it. I figured the vehicle was being transfered less than 200 miles and should only be a few days. When speaking with the person for purchasing the vehicle, due to proximity of the two stores it would only be 4 days. I said perfect, I have to be back at work in a week so Its not a big deal. Fast forward to two weeks later, Im down about $600 for a rental vehicle and still waiting...every time Ive called and asked for a refund they tell me I would need to give up the car...as well since they are corporate they wont help with anything like getting the vehicle expedited so I can return my vehicle and recoup some of the loss.In summation - another corporate big dawg pushing down the little guy, because they can.
I like how they do business, very simple and clear. I feel that I can trust them. I did online appraisal before I went to the store, the price I got in the store was exactly same as I got online. Compare with conventional dealership, I think doing business with carmax make me feel better.
I absolutely adore going to this Carmax! I’m from the Syracuse area, and I happily drive 1.5 hours to do business in Rochester! I am always greeted with a smile and the staff is extremely personable! Jeffrey and Jake are two of the best salesmen I’ve ever worked with! Great team of workers throughout the entire store! I always feel cared for and appreciated here, you can tell they truly care about the work they’re doing! Great work everyone!

Overall, I felt very welcomed here. The wait time was a bit long for me, but once things got moving, we were out extremely fast. The representatives here were welcoming and seemed genuinely happy to have my business. Although I thought the offer was slightly low for my car, they offered 2x the amount Auction Direct did. If we need to sell again, this is where I will come.
2019 Toyota Highlander needs brakes and rotors front and back with less than 3000 miles driven since purchase.Takes forever to get ahold of anyone as it calls go to a national number instead of local.Needs to be fixed as travelling far away while towing a camper this week. I was so pleasantly surprised with my visit here. I loved being able to view the cars on the lot on my own. When I was ready to talk numbers the sales associate was low pressure and helpful in all aspects of the car search process. I ultimately did not buy my vehicle here but I recommend others check this place out.
I had a great car buying experience with CarMax. I was skeptical at first that I would have a good experience but the sales person did not pressure me at all. In fact the car I originally went to see didnt work out. They still appraised my trade in so I knew were I stood and then did a search for another car. We didnt find one that day but eventually we did find one in their network of stores. We had it shipped up to Rochester and then I purchased it. The purchasing process was really easy and they took the time to explain everything. I was not pressured into buying any additional warranties or plans and just purchased the car. No pressure! It was awesome!
The absolute worst customer service Ive ever witnessed and experienced. You cannot get through to anyone at this location. I drove 67 miles right to their shop and I was on hold the whole time. Do not buy a car from here. They also sold me a car that said it had a climate package and it did not. It had all the buttons for it but no functionality and they have sent me all over town. The worst dealership in Rochester hands down and its not even close
I personally had a great experience. I found a vehicle on the website that I chose to have transferred to Rochester. The transfer went seamless. The car was in the shape it was described in! The sales team, business office were the two departments I dealt with.Do your homework and make sure that if your having a car transferred in you have verified that the options are correctly listed.
Looks like it will be easy to sell your car, but it isnt.Never received confirmation of first two appointments. Later called and found out they had texted my land line, despite that I had clicked the email option. Preparing to go there, I couldnt find the car registration slip, so I called them. After 15 minutes on hold with them conferring and conferring, they said it would be fine just getting information from the sticker and I dont need to change the appointment. OK, I go to the location and then it turns out that they do need that slip. I gave up and went home. I suspect whats going on is that theres a national office that fields calls that isnt in communication with the local stores.
Our 2nd car through CarMax. Now we both drive prior-leased vehicles under the average mileage in excellent conditions with body and drivetrain. My Colorado red 2016 Jeep Renegade 4wd Sport w/ 43K miles for $15,998 was sought and bought within 72 hrs because of a great staff. They easily sell great deals on wheels. A great total experience overall.
I just bought a 2016 Ford Fusion from CarMax. I had the absolute best car buying experience I have ever had! Darrell was attentive, thorough, professional and personable. I honestly have not had so much fun or laughed so much while spending so much money. I never felt like I was being sold a car. CarMax made the financing, insuring and registering process quick and painless. In 24 hours time I was able to shop, pick, pay and have my new car in my driveway. Go see Darrell, you wont regret it!
Was in town visiting my dad and helping him with some things which included possibly selling his truck. Knowing he probably wouldnt want to go through the hassle of selling in his own we visited this CarMax.The customer service by everyone was stellar. There was a gentleman at the main entrance counter who was fantastic (I wish I remembered his name). We also worked with AJ for getting an appraisal for the truck and he was great as well! At first I thought it was one of those deals to good to be true, you know just to get you on the car lot. It was not! It was a straight up deal like their website stated and all the way through the whole purchase process, from transfer of vehicle, test drive, vehicle condition, etc... Most impressive overall is the people who work there as a team. Very professional atmosphere. I highly recommend.
I called first to make sure they would work with me and I spoke to Adam. He explained everything and then I went in the store a half hour later and Sean helped me through everything. Sean was amazing and helped out and got me my car in less than an hour. He was patient and joked around and made my car buying very pleasurable and better than the other dealerships I went to before that. I will definitely recommend people to go there!

I didnt think I would have walked out with a car in less than 3 hours from start to finish but I did and would recommend CarMax to everyone. They even financed me better than the loan I was approved for before I walked into the dealership, which had me very pleased!!
By far the most unprofessional experience I ever had, I’ve had my car for 3 and a half months and already needed my battery changed and rotors and brakes fixed, I’m usually reasonable and didn’t mind until they refused to fix my rotors and brakes, I visited the repair shop twice while in warranty and all they did was lubricate my brake pads to stop squeaking which only works temporarily. After continuous issues with my brakes I called and demand that they are replaced because at this point I’m losing money taking time off work to tend to this issue, I was sent to a trusted 3rd party mechanic of CarMax because the Henrietta didn’t have service openings for close to a month. There the 3rd party mechanic (who they sent me to) explained I had rusted rotors and worn down brake pads that needed to be replaced and cleaned which they were willing to do, but The service location in Henrietta refused to pay even though that’s where they sent me. So for the third time now my car isn’t fixed. I bring it in again after speaking to a rude mechanic who said unless I bring it in the cars issues won’t be fixed because they aren’t paying the 3rd party. Fine!! I bring it in a fourth time, now the frustration is there and I’m a unhappy customer which I explain to the Henrietta locations store manager (Adam). Adam spoke with me and said he’d make sure they’d address all my concerns, Didn’t happen! and when I spoke to him a second time he said the mechanic couldn’t hear the squeaking which it isn’t hard at all to initiate, I told him I have a day off and even though the service mechanics aren’t in on weekends I can at least bring it to show him the noise I’m hearing, he told me he isn’t wasting his time coming out to hear a noise, I explained how unprofessional it was of him and how it’s my 4th f*****g time bringing the car in and that’s really the only point in time he engaged in the conversation saying he’s not helping me because I cussed, The store manager is immature, didn’t care about my issues when I was not upset, and damn sure didn’t care when I was.. Adam Doesn’t deserve a job in sales, I manage in sales as well and do really well and if I performed like Adam, I wouldn’t have a job because Customer Care actually matters in my line of work!!
First off, its important to understand that Carmax is not a dealership, they are more of a re-seller. They just buy and sell cars. Their service center, and their technicians, arent really trained to handle most repairs, etc. Essentially when you buy from Carmax it is the same as buying from a third party off Craigslist, but with a but more accountability on their end.That being said, my experience was great. I found a car on their website that I wanted, and I had it shipped to me. Everything was pretty simple and straightforward. I was approved for financing even though I have bad credit. No complaints.Ive been driving the car for over a month now and everything is fine. I have noticed some wear and tear on the interior and minor scratches on the exterior, but it is a 7 year old vehicle, this is to be expected.I bought a used car, I got a used car. Everything went as was expected.
THEY ARE QUICK TO SELL YOU A CAR BUT NOT QUICK TO FIX IT!!! I bought my car in April 2017. It’s a 2012 Ford Fusion. I went in with my down payment and drove off with the car the same day. In August 2018, there was a squeak coming from the car when started which was determined to be an engine pulley. I called CarMax and was told this part would be covered under my extended warranty but they would not be able to get me in for service for 3 weeks. I told them I cannot go that long without a car and asked if I could get a loner. They told me no, but I’m more than welcome to get a car rental from Enterprise at my own expense. Are you kidding me?? I ended up going to Henderson Ford and they repaired my car the same day. That speaks volumes about a dealer that is so far booked on appointments. Are that many people having issues with cars purchased from CarMax??? I will be going to Henderson Ford for any service issues going forward for however long I have this car and I will not be purchasing another vehicle from CarMax. Having to wait 3 WEEKS for a service appointment is insane.
Ive always disliked going to dealerships, and having a salesperson constantly on my heels. I have to say buying my 2013 Ford Escape at CarMax was a refreshing experience, far from the norm.My sales associate, Sean Alridha, was very pleasant. After his welcome greeting, he let me go freely and explore the car lot, without the constant over shadowing. When needed, he was promptly available for any of my questions. He was extremely knowledgeable, up front and courteous.Im very happy with my new vehicle and my buying experience at CarMax was exceptional!i would highly recommend anyone looking to purchase a vehicle, rather it be new or used, to please stop in to a CarMax near you!You will not be disappointed
Bought a Smart Car and the service was quick and efficient the day I bought it. Noted a few issues I found a day later and they were fixed immediately at no cost to me. Months later I noticed a braking issue. Upon inspection they saw the brake pads needed replacing and should have been replaced before I bought the car. The repair was done at no cost. They take care of there customers!
Had an issue within a day of getting our Volvo and had to bring it back to get fixed. Did a mediocre job at cleaning the car before we got it. Issues with phone communication with the lady over the phone. Took longer than expected to get car transferred from Albany to Rochester and getting notified when it was there. Not the best experience.
I applied for the pre approval and was approved for the vehicle I wanted I drove 3 hours to be told that my proof of income was not recent enough. I spoke with my sales person about my situation and how my work has an off season (I return to work in less than 2 weeks) I was told multiple times that this would not be a problem and that I would only need to bring my ID and most recent pay stub I had every intention of buying a car but after being rushed looking at the car and the hoops I had to jump through just to be told no you cant get the vehicle I left. The customer service was bad and I definitely will not be looking to return to carmax.
Id do commercials for these guys any day. They easily helped me through a test drive, a car hold (on a different car), and selection of the car I drive home. Every person, I dealt with (in person or on the phone) was very helpful and personable. The selfie with the ribbon on my car was like icing on the cake. Thank you so much.
Have bought 2 vehicles from CarMax in the last 2 months. First experience was beyond expectations. 2nd experience, the call center said there were title issues with the first vehicle chosen. We picked another, they never held the vehicle and it was being sold out from underneath us. Then the salesman was trying to get out early on that Friday, and because paperwork takes time, he tried postponing the sale for 3 days. Then the approval with apr that was given, somehow actually didn’t exist. The quality of the vehicles are 100%! Not all personnel are professional! Also, trade in values are comically low!
Wonderful experience yesterday! I loved how I could reserve a car online! I purchased a 2018 Kia Sportage. I’ve been wanting this car for. Year and a half. Adil was great, he called me as soon as I reserved the car to get some info from me. We were there for 3 hours, which is the fastest car buying experience I’ve ever had! Courtney did all of my paperwork and she was friendly and knowledgeable! All the staff was extremely friendly! 10/10 recommend!
A very good experience overall. I was in search of a specific car, year and model, features etc. The online search was great in allowing me to find it outside to the Rochester area. I arranged to have it shipped up (my cost, but thats ok, it wasnt much). In about 2 weeks, I was able to go test drive it, and found it to be in excellent condition, just as advertised. The deal closing was relatively fast and painless, given I was the first person for this store to walk in and walk out with the vehicle on the spot. I did take a look at their inventory in the lot, and all the cars seemed to be in excellent condition, so I would say they do what they advertise.
Bill Zachary was PHENOMENAL! !Hes very knowledgeable about the vehicles if he wasnt sure about something I asked he went out of his way to find out.Ive bought and dealt with lots of cars and salesmen NEVER have i come across one such as Mr. Zachary. His calm, friendly approach made my decision and finalizing of the sale seamless and well, actually enjoyable. Which btw Ive never said about any other car buying experience.I love that CARMAX is a no pressure, no BS type of car dealer.
Im extremely pleased with the services I have experienced in purchasing a new to me used car. The trade in value of my car for the purchase of the new one. The sales man, and other staff made everything perfect for me. Ive been back for minor services to remove some scratches, and touchups. Everything was perfect .Service staff....amazing! Found pretty large scratch on front bumper 1 week after buying. I sadly dont think they even knew it was there when they sold it to me. Brought back and they told me it was still carmax certified.
I loathe going to car dealerships but after many close friends recommended CarMax I decided to try it as I needed to trade in an older vehicle and purchase a used car as well. The experience was great from start to finish. The staff were helpful and friendly with out ever getting pushy or sketchy about details. I walked out with in a few hours having sold my old car to them and purchasing a 2013 Honda CR-V that I love. I highly recommend this location as well as the CarMax approach to buying/selling autos.
I dont have the best credit score so looking for a car usually ends in disaster for me because i get turned down so often. I had heard of Carmax from advertisements & driving past the building but never went, one day i decided to go their and purchase my car. I was greeted warmly by the staff and a employee named Magdel helped me through the process by breaking down my options and providing a no hassle free environment. Even though it took me a while to make my decision, Magdel treated me like a person and didnt discriminate because of my credit score like most car deals do. In the end i was able to purchase a car for a reasonable price, low APR and enjoyed every bit of the experience.
Amazing, quick, and efficient car buying experience. I found the truck I wanted online, drove 2 1/2 hours to the closest CarMax, and was test driving within minutes. Cody moved the process along quickly and answered all my questions. 3 hours after walking in the door I was driving away. There was no price haggling, hidden fees, or high pressure sales tactics. I will be buying all my future vehicles from CarMax!!
Ah, wish I could give them 6 stars. My first car selling experience was wonderful with these guys. They listened to me carefully, comprised with the estimate I got from various sources and purchased my car with a very reasonable price. Whenever you want to sell your car, work with Dave, Matt, or Paul. You will never be dissatisfied.
Very poor customer service. No-one answers their service line. They dont care about their customer. I bought a car frm them. Car had so many problem. Their multi point inspection is garbage. Within year my car needed new brakes and rotors, tires, transmission, tie rods, camera. Car wheel were bent, engine misfiring, and many more. I have a stack of paper work for all the repairs. They will resurface the rotors just to get through warranty. Move engine coils just to get through warranty but will never fix any issue. Never retune calls. I even called their national center to complain the guy said “ henrietta store is a super store and very bussy”. I said if that is the case shouldnt u have more headcount to help customers. Very very poor. Will never buy car again frm them and also told all friends and family not to use car max.
I’ve been to this Carmax a couple of times to buy my car and to have repairs done on that car. Every time there has been issues from parts not being put back properly to paperwork taking way too long. Today I had a sensor replaced they said it would take 30min it took 40 which wasn’t the issue it was the fact the paperwork side of it took a further 80 minutes. If I hadn’t gotten warranty with them I wouldn’t go back because of how inconvenient it has been every time I’ve been there.

2022-04-08Great vehicle (2018 Ford F150 XL) and customer service. I had my mechanic check the vehicle over before I purchased and he found a few minor things that needed to be addressed. I brought his report to CarMax and they fixed everything - no charge. The jack was also missing so they told me to purchase one at a Ford Dealership and bring them the receipt and they would reimburse me. I bought the jack, brought them the receipt and they sent me a check in the full amount. A great experience and I have already recommended them to over a dozen people.

2022-02-22Its been 14 years since we have purchased a car. Times have changed especially with COVID. We read reviews on online car buying including CarMax, spoke to a friend who got his car through them, and searched the site for our new-to-us vehicle. The entire experience was excellent including an after purchase service need. The staff who work there are all professional and friendly. The car we got is fabulous. I was treated with respect and everything was transparent. He took care of everything to make sure this was a seamless process. Jeff was knowledgeable, friendly and very professional. 2022-05-17My wife and I have dealt with CarMax twice within the last year. Both experiences were outstanding, sold a car the first time and sold and then purchased a vehicle the second. We were given fair money for our vehicles and we had a car transferred from another CarMax to our local one for purchase. I highly recommend CarMax, give them a try.

2022-06-17Quick and easy experience! I was in and out of the appraisal in 30 minutes, and then when I came back to sell the car (My cars financial institution wasnt open day of the appraisal), I was there less than an hour and walked out that day with my money. EXCELLENT service from Jim at the Rochester branch.

2022-05-25My husband brought me in on Mother’s Day for a Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring that we had to pay to 200 dollars to get shipped here. The manner in which the vehicle was presented to me was unacceptable the vehicle was dirty inside and out.We we’re told they could try to clean it up it was made to look a little better but not to my standards. This will definitely keep us from recommending Car Max to someone else.
