At the most recent visit, the practice did not have our scheduled appointment in their system. Some of the vets are excellent and weve received adequate care. However, its clear that the practice is much better suited for dogs than cats and is not equipped for senior cats or their complex health issues. They are currently extremely overloaded- long hold times on the phone, no responses to voicemail or email messages.

I have recently had 3 visits to this veterinarian. The first visit was scheduled for 9 AM. I arrived 5 minutes early. I was told that the doctor was running a little late. I understand things can happen during a commute so initially this was not a problem. I was told to wait outside due to COVID. I waited for almost 45 minutes without hearing anything from the clinic. I called for an update and they told me they could not find her records even though I had sent and confirmed they had received the records prior to my visit. I re-sent the records. After waiting another 45 minutes, the doctor called me. She prescribed medication, but told me they could not get a urine sample that was needed for a full diagnoses.I took my cat in again several weeks later for a urine sample after I brought in a sample from home that they said they could not use. My cat was at the office for 4 hours, but they were unable to obtain a sample due to stress on the cat. When I came to pick up my cat, the carrier was covered in cat urine. This made me assume that they had left my cat in her carrier for 4 hours and made no attempt to get urine while she peed in her carrier. In my third visit, I took my cat in for vaccinations. This time, I was able to enter the office. When I was with the doctor, they gave me generic advice about my cat and seemed fairly stand-offish to me. They told me a blood test was needed along with the scheduled vaccinations. I approved and did not realized how much the test would cost (the staff did not alert me of the cost). Upon leaving, I received a bill that was not itemized and was about twice what I was expecting to pay for the visit. I followed up and received an itemized receipt. All costs were more expensive than I had payed with previous vets. I understand the Upper East Side has high rents and the vet needs to charge more, but the care I received did not justify the high prices. After three visits, I have left the office feeling confused, angry and frustrated with the care and service that my cat received. I know that caring for animals is difficult, but the service I receive at a vet office should not make a situation with a sick animal any worse. I will be seeking out another vet in the future.

This place did not treat me well. I took my cat in with very specific issues - losing teeth and a bump on her tail - and I wanted some professional help. Dr. Hess did not tell me anything that I did not already know. She had a horrible attitude with me and didnt even give me any advice on the problems. When she told me what she found with her exam, she simply repeated the issues I brought my cat in for in the first place. Any human being could have told me this information. I understand that more specific tests are needed, but I was still hoping for any kind of recommendations at all. Skip this place and try another vet who has more professional manner.

Ive had several horrific experiences here. Most recently, I showed up with my dog who I was concerned may have had an infection. I called beforehand to make sure I could go with my dog to the back room, especially since I was allowed to at my previous visit two months prior. They said absolutely. When I arrived, the vet asked to take the dog into the back and I very calmly asked if I could go with them. She said no and again I asked, calmly, why not. I explained I am vaccinated, recovered several weeks prior from covid and was wearing a KN95. I even took a rapid test and had a picture of my results before going in.The vet began to YELL at me say that she was uncomfortable with me and that she refused to see me. She then started talking to the Vet Tech as if I wasnt standing there and told me I had to leave and that she was uncomfortable. I literally just stood there in shock, I didnt even respond. The vet tech explained to me that they had several people out with covid and they cant risk letting me back with my dog. I was very confused and tried again explaining that all the steps I had taken to ensure their safety. They said absolutely no way I can go back. I gave them my dog because I really needed him to be seen. They said they were going to run a quick test to check for the infection. 25 minutes passed and I saw people coming and going from the room my dog was in. I was so anxious the entire time because I had no idea what they were doing. It didnt help that the receptionists were very nasty in how they were speaking about the phone calls they were receiving after they hung up. People were calling about getting tags and documents and they receptionists hung up the phone and began saying things like well theyll have to wait, were busy and theyre not our priority right now. I felt bad for those calling who just wanted paperwork that was probably very late. Finally they just returned my dog to me and said everything was fine, it wasnt what I thought it was at all. That was relief of course. Then I went to go pay and they said it was $280. I was shocked, a 25 minute visit. I had NO idea what they did in there so I asked. They then said, oh well we are running a PCR test thats over $100 to check for the infection. I was confused because the vet just told me its absolutely not an infection. They then said I didnt have to run the test, they were just putting it on there. I asked them to take it off. The visit still came to well over $100 because they did a whole check-up and physical that I had absolutely no idea about. They didnt share any information about my dog with me at all. No weight, no checkup details - nothing.I left horrified and told them I would never be returning. I have since been to another vet and let me tell you- it was a world of a difference.PLEASE - if you love your pet - DO NOT GO HERE.

I have been a part of the Carnegie Hill family of Veterinarians from the time they were in a small space off of 3rd. Having always had a multiple cat household, one of my members became deathly ill. No vet would take me as they didnt know the cat, Dr. Alex Miller heard my distress and saidBring her right over, without hesitation. From that moment on he has been a man of great compassion and love for all the pets that come through his door. He shares this space with Dr. Sasha Hilchuck who takes the lead when hes not around..Sixteen years ago I took in some kittens that bonded with each other and became a pod. Nothing was done without the other. Over the years each one had ailments and I have had Alex walk me through when adding a new one brought a virus into my home forcing me to 24/7 force feed through a tube. The small kitten that carried the illness has died as I had to make a decision and return the kitten to petco. Mine needed far to much care. Later I took in another cat whos with me now. Each and every time he has seen my fur babies and given me solid advice. Sasha has had the sensitivity and compassion to diagnose my favorite baby and put him to sleep when there was no alternative of salvation. Lola, the last of the first pod is almost seventeen , and she has had the most problems aside from being a picky eater. She is tenacious and permits anyone to handle her , and god willing will live through this hard time. Alex sees her and has called me with results to tests and thoughts on her health. When eThe staff that maintains peace and continence in the office from Jack a long time friend to the pets, to Kim, and all the others that forgive me but I dont know everyones name has been caring and taken messages and returned calls.During this pandemic this office showed its true colors by continuing to care for the pets but keeping their owners safe. Bravo! and Thank You

Absolutely disgusting, horrible practice. The receptionist was rude and awful. I had brought my dog in and instead of professionally telling me they didn’t accept walk-ins (which is fine), they yelled at me, berated and scolded me in front of everyone. “Yeah, you clearly haven’t been here before.” Horrific and terrible, considering my dog needed emergency care and i was already stressed, some hospitality goes a very long way. It was my first time but I Will never return just for the unprofessionalism at the front desk.

Where is Johnathan? He was amazing, sweet, understanding and lovely would hold your pets. He should have been a vet assistant but was behind the desk and yelled at by the owner when he worked there. Where is he?

Update: Unfortunately, Dr. Miller, who was the most fantastic veterinarian, has retired. My cat last was seen by him 10 months ago, at this practice. My cat takes prescription medication, and this practice requires that animals be seen annually in order to receive prescriptions. Totally reasonable. Except that now that Dr. Miller has retired, the practice is refusing to approve refills for my cat - they are insisting we come in for our annual more than two months early. Thats absurd. Any doctor at my childs pediatricians office can approve refills for medication that he needs. Why another vet AT THE SAME PRACTICE is unable to do so is ridiculous. Previously, we had traveled all the way from Washington Heights to come here because of what a wonderful vet Dr. Miller was. Ill be switching practices now.Original Review: Dr. Miller is the best vet we have found for our cats. We’ve been going to him since 2009, when I found him after moving to the upper east side. He’s knowledgeable and he clearly loves animals. He’s so good that I’ve continued to bring my cats to him even after moving to Washington Heights in 2013. He’s helped my little cat with his crazy allergies and gut problems, as well as with his thyroid issues. And when we needed to put my older cat down last year after a fight with jaw cancer, Dr. Miller was kind and gentle throughout the process. We really couldn’t ask for a better vet.

If you want to be ripped off at a minimum of $100 per visit come here. No matter what you come in for you will be charged an excessive amount of money for a minimal amount of work. A follow up shot for a vaccine I already paid for (which took less than 5 minutes) was $101. How is this reasonable in any way? Exploitative financial behavior

We had been coming here for awhile and it was getting harder and harder to get an appointment. My dog had a UTI (after googling, vet wouldn’t return my calls). So I finally just showed up at the front desk and was laughed at when I said I didn’t have an appointment. They told me to go to the emergency pet hospital, which I did.I guess it was a blessing in disguise because our new vet is very receptive and returns calls. No dealing with a bunch of attitude at the front desk. Anyways, I DO NOT recommend this place at all.
