This has been the worst experience at caroga lake. I understand rules and such but when there is no one around you and itβs not bother anyone why say anything. Rules are made to be broken. Your a kill buzz. We camp here all the time. Canβt swim when itβs not raining or you close the beaches early in the SUMMERTIME. Scraping fire pits out at the crack of dawn when everyone is sleeping. Bathrooms are constantly broke down. No hot water in the showers. You have your cleaners cleaning the 2 bathroom stalls when someone is in the shower. And yes I was the only one in there taking a shower and she flushed those toilets 10 x s a piece. And then one other person came in while I was there. I see this place is going to end up closing cause of poor management and rude people.
My familys been going here for years and this year it was awful and we will never come back. Sitting around the fire at 11 pm talking and laughing on a Friday night isnt recommend. I guess it was to loud for the campers next to us. They complained and they warned us. So we started whispering and talking normal even though we had a one year old and a 5 year old sleeping in our tent just fine. The old man decides to leave cuz we were still being loud supposably. So they came down and warned us again and said if I come down a third time youre getting kicked out. So we all decided to call it a night and go to bed. The next morning they came down and evicted us even though my family had another week to stay that was paid for in full in advance. For years weve been doing this. Staying there 2 weeks at a time. Never had any problems ever. Guess you lost some business. My family spent $300 plus every year there. Never again. The kids were so disappointed and crying. All because of that one old man and his family next to him that kept smacking their (14-15yo)child constantly and yelling at him. But we mind our own business. So disappointed in the crew that works there. Not to mention some of them were rude. I will be definitely not recommending your campground to anyone. So disappointed this year. Guess somebody else will be getting our business every year. Ive also heard they have done this to other people also. Is this a way you guys are trying to make more money?
This is my opinion and considering other NYS campgrounds as well. It was very loud well past 10 PM. Well past 1AM. The campgrounds are very well maintained and facilities clean. The sites are small and they are right on top of the road so you have no feeling of privacy. The sites in most cases to the left and right have some space. The issue is its a carved out spot on the road. The beach is nice as well as day use area. East and west caroga lake has very clear water. There is heavy boat traffic and the shore line especially on east caroga lake is pack with camps and homes. Not a great lake for canoes or kayaks. Its just not that peaceful.
We reserved 3 sites about a month before went my realitive that was to use one site had surgery go wrong so couldnt make it so had extra site when checked in the lady at gate gave us hard time as we had 3 sites for only 8 people. We had to put a tent on each site now keep in mind out of the 8, 3 of them were under the age of 9 didnt want to seperate them from us. But we didnt argue. The 1st night there we were asked to quiet down around 9 not problem the 2nd night we were asked to be quiet at 730 really we had children that wanted to still play. Bathrooms were dark showers not that great. The park grew seemed to drive past every 5 mins not very friendly at that. All in all we left a day early will not go back we choose differnt state parks every year this is first ever given bad review and will not go back
I really liked caroga lake. The staff was wonderful. The site I originally had was just to small. Couldnt back camper into it. I told them what happened and they gave me a bigger and better site. They never charged me to change sites that is the reason I will be back. The staff was very accommodating
Nice campground however not enough bathrooms. Some sites you have to walk a ways to get to one. Also no water spigots by road. They are only a few in the woods and you have to walk through someones site to get to them. Camp sites are small and barley fit a 24 camper.
Made reservations for 3 nights ended up making the trip short due to the incompetence of management on hot summer days. First day nothing was done about the beach full of people and no life guard in duty but second day it becomes a big deal when a life guard shows up and shuts down the beach and anyone cought in the water were threatened to have forest rangers called on them and removed from the park. There was no notice in advance that the beach was closed.when I made reservations, pre registration and upon arrival to check in. Then told I can drive about a half hour away to use a different beach,First and last time goin to this campground.

2022-06-12This is our favorite place to π βΊοΈ camp. They have restrooms located conveniently around the grounds and showers. The beach is kept up and theres never trash all over like some other local Spots. The beach area has picnic areas with charcoal grills so you can have a great day at the beach and cookout with youre family. They have canoe rentals there also. Highly recommended!

2021-08-30We spent 3 nights at Caroga Lake. They have a great staff who really care about the well kept campground. One shower house; very clean. All toilet houses are very clean. Sites are of varying sizes, but mostly small (a tent or two and an EZ-Up over the table. Fire pits are cleaned out after each reservation leaves. the surface is gravel. The beach is small.Drawbacks: Water spigots are hard to find in the woods. Only one shower house, so if youre far away from it, its an uphill hike. The general store across from camp is really a sandwich/pizza shop. The wood we bought there was wet and wouldnt burn properly (not a ding against the campground, but just sayin). There is zero cell service at this campground. Whether thats a plus or minus is up to you.

2022-06-05As far as campgrounds go, it was pretty average. Nothing special. Nice view of the lake and beach area. The first night we stayed there was a water issue, but the problem was resolved quickly and efficiently. The bathrooms werent pristine, but we wouldnt expect that from a campground. Staff were kind and helpful. The major downside was how noisy it is at night. We didnt sleep well at all due to vehicles driving up and down the loops, dogs barking, and people talking loudly at 3 am. However, there is a park ranger who you can ask to try to resolve the noise.Overall, probably wouldnt go again due to the negative night experience and lack of things to do in the area, but we had a decent time while there.

2019-08-06Needs updating. We camped here a week in July 2019. The water was off for two different days. Hot water was out one morning. These were because of unplanned issues and a plumber was called. Outhouses are the backup. Bathrooms are not close to campsites and those bathrooms have toilets and sinks. These bathrooms have plywood stalls that need to be replaced. There are showers near the camp entrance, many people we saw drove from their sites to the showers. Driving in the park one day, smelled a strong septic odor, despite having a/c on- saw a woman pull her shirt up over her mouth walking to the bathroom I was passing near the beach. This isnt the standard Im used to at several of the NYS campgrounds my family has camped at. The park is pretty small and has some eyesores due to lack of space... Like a large pile of gravel, empty sites with picnic tables being worked on. The lake is okay. Small lake with a lot of activity on the weekends, less in the week. Swimming area is nice, beach is nice, life guard present. Changing areas at the beach dont have showers or bath facilities. Sites have nice fire pits, but bring a grill to BBQ over the fire, as grates are 4 apart. Good convenience store outside park, and lots of shopping close by in Gloversville.
