Attended one of Jason Banks show over the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed the show AND the venue! We were very comfortable; the drinks were tasty and strong. We decided on ordering food and both had the salmon with sautéed potatoes & spinach. Was very surprised at how truly delicious our meal was; coming from an event venue!Staff was friendly and efficient. A great evening spent at Caroline’s!!!
I went to Carolines for a birthday gift 🎁 and it was great. I was given a gold package which included seating close to the stage,no waiting in line, and top shelf open bar drinks. I felt like a Vip from how I was treated. The comedians were good and drinks were good. Very nice ambiance. A sure bet for date night
So much happened on our first visit here! First, the ticket/table seating is very odd and should be revisit. I felt like I was part of a lottery system. However, I liked the setup of the club..it was nice and intimate. But there is A LOT TO IMPROVE ON CUSTOMER SERVICE. We had to wait for abt 30 minutes to place an order. Our waitress kept forgetting our order and kept coming to asked what we ordered. When we finally received our orders (with the other couple at the table), she spilled the drink on us and glass shattered everywhere as well! But the best part of the show was Corey Holcomb!
Such an awesome place. We came here to see Kevin Smith and we had a blast. We opted to have dinner before the show and it was great. The food and drinks were delicious. The waiters were friendly and efficient. The staff taking our tickets & helping us to our seats, were wonderful. We will definitely be back!
I went to Carolines to watch a comedy show to celebrate my birthday 🎂🥳 I needed to laugh 😅a little after so much pressure and stress last year and this show did it. It was funny from beginning to end. I love 💘💗it. Five stars 🌟🤩to the food as well 😋. It was good to the last bite 😋. I definitely will be going again.
We had an absolutely amazing time seeing Mo Amer.Read other reviews so you know what youre getting into. Their setting process isnt great, the host staff is pretty friendly though. The two drink minimum is just how it goes so about another $10 on top of your ticket.Didnt try the food, it looked pretty decent but from what I saw on other tables but nothing special. Prices are typical NYC Broadway mark up.Get there a little early, talk some people and become part of a group of six to get seated a little sooner if youre part of a smaller group of 2 or 3.It can get a little hectic on the beginning but if youre going to see a good comic youll have a blast once the show gets willing
Soooo, because you CANNOT take your phone out that is the only picture I took and in spite of the great performance they did, I sadly have to give it 3 stars because the place is small, outdated and they were not at full capacity but OVERLOADED capacity, and during this times you would understand, you cannot afford not to be at least 6 apart. They were even calling it in their own jokes which made me even a bit more uncomfortable than I already was. 😬 I tried to keep my mask on but what do you expect from a box underground full of people. I think they need a bit more ventilation if they plan on keeping that place packed! On the good side like I mentioned before, performance was great!!
I really like this place, kind of a throw back to the 80ts. They have food, you can make a reservations or just get there early enough and you can order. I didnt eat but from what I saw was ok. Theres a 2 drink minimum. The bathrooms can use a more frequent freshening, my wife said same thing. The staff was cool and the crowd friendly. We saw Dolph Ziggler hes very funny he is also WWE wrestler , so some other wrestlers showed up to. It was a fun night. Definitely going back.
Watched a comedy show by Anjelah Johnson at the Carolines and we enjoyed the show a lot. The place is not too big that you cant see the performance, and at the same time we were concerned with potential covid transmission. The venue checked for vaccination cards as per NY regulations and everyone was masked but it was packed. We ordered the Green Harlequin tickets which meant that we didnt have to wait in line to get in, but it was just about full when we arrived about 30 minutes before the performance. So get there as early as possible. You get a table based on the size of your party. You can order drinks or food from their menu. ( Not too many food items, but a good number of drink options) service staff is very friendly and quick. You get your food or drink as soon as possible and can do that during the performance if you want. After you finish and pay your bill, they give you a little stub that you hand out to the person at the exit to indicate that you paid your bill. Note! No phones allowed inside.
GROSSLY OVER PRICED. In every way. $30 for 4 ribs ( geez, thats $8 per rib)? $15 for 3 oz of wine? Literally 1/3 a glass! Automatic 18% gratuity? Ruined my experience. TOTALLY. They clearly operate under the notion that THEY are the only ones that have been affected by this global pandemic.
Last night! Was awesome Sommore did what was supposed to be done. It was funny and highly entertaining. The drinks were good. Some of them you even get a souvenir cup that we didnt bring with us b/c who carries glass cups around? The nachos were meh next time i will just order the chips with guacamole . Its clear that this place has been around for years everyhing ran smoothly.
Ease to access venue with great staff and DJ. Crammed in a little tight, views not great in all spots. Would have been better with the monitors on for those of us crammed 6 at a table with no line of sight. Drinks alright and priced for Broadway. Worth catching your favorite comics at this spot!
After being unable to attend our show due to Covid, Eric and the staff were extremely understanding and accommodating by allowing us to transfer our tickets to a later show. As always, Carolines has great food and drinks in addition to excellent talent. Cant wait to attend our next show! Thanks, Eric!
Great shows. Ive been here several times and the comedians are really good. This was the first time I made dinner reservations so I could have reserved seating. I wont do that again. In my opinion you mind as well eat when they let you in. Showtime says 7pm but they dont come on the stage until about 7:30. So instead of just sittng there have your meal. For the most part you can see from any seat because the venue is small. The food was good. The place needs a major update in the restrooms.
An amazing way to spend the night in the heart of New York City. I experienced the hilarity of comedy expert Jim Norton. Loved the whole atmosphere. My drinks were flawlessly created and delivered in a timely manner! The menu looked scrumptious; almost ate the menu itself! If youre in the area, stop in and laugh and dine the night away.
Went to see Anjelah Johnson on 12/16/21 at Carolines. From the moment we arrived, every member of the staff was fantastic. From checking in to sitting at the bar to the service during the show: everyone and everything was A+ !The General Manager for the night was Eric and I sought him out to compliment the team. Kudos Eric. Ill say it again: you run a great ship Thanks for helping to make my wifes birthday a really fun night!*(and I posted elsewhere: if you can still catch Anjelah Johnson at Carolines: RUN and buy tix! She is absolutely awesome!)
The show was awesome. We laughed so hard at Luenell and her opening crew our sides hurt. This review is for the club itself and not the performance. There were not enough serving staff and we are still operating under a pandemic. Although the restrictions are more relaxed it was very uncomfortable to have people seated so close that there knees were constantly hitting you. They didnt sit anyone spaced out. We were on top of each other like cattle. I did not expect that at all.
Carolines on Broadway, NYCO Yeah This is the Club Quarantine of Greatness. A Spectator Coolout with wonderful vibes.Yes you will escape into a Harmony of Laughter and Entertainment. The name is all its got. I was pumped because I had never been and I saw how big the venue was compared to other clubs in nyc. That was the extent of my positive experience here. First thing you notice upon entry was a wall of heat. I figured that perhaps the ac in the bar was out but the theater would be good. Alas despite one portable unit per room, the size if the venue worked against us; my wife and I spent an entire show dripping in sweat. Tried to get some relief by asking for water, only to be told tap water would be delayed because the bar was out of glasses. To top it all off the comedians were not all that funny. I will admit comedy is personal opinion but Ill say this: when your first time for a fun night out after a year of being knee deep in covid as responders is half a set of covid jokes and covid vaccine jokes it gets old quick. For the amount of money we payed, the jokes werent worth it and the environment didnt make it any better. A good buisness would have warned folks at the front about the a/c and made sure to have had water readily availabl to all the tables. Extremely disappointing!!!
Great show, had large table and everyone enjoyed it. Place is clean and sound in room is great. Only thing holding it back from 5 stars is the old fashion 2 drink minimum, a dated practice that makes things awkward at best, just charge a bit more and let us drink what we want.
Great show last night. Modi is one of the best comedians I’ve ever experienced. No waiting to laugh. And big laughs indeed. Killer routine and extemporaneous comments. 5 stars for the comedian.Re the venue, very very hot. Very uncomfortable and definitely and manifestly not great for those who can’t manage their body temperature well due to illness or certain medications. Something wrong with their HVAC and this picture. Sweltering inside and nice and cool outside upon leaving. No way to rig up fans to bring in outside cool air (I don’t know)??. No advance communication/warning about this problem. Don’t get me wrong, I love Caroline’s. Generally great comedians and venue. But the current HVAC situation can be a serious issue for some folks.
If youre her for a show, I recommend to dine prior to the show. As much as you would like to arrive early for good seating, you would hate it more to find out how much you paid for the dinner.I love trying new restaurants and am dont hesitate to go all out on the full dining experience.Ordered:Calamari - If youre expecting Carmines calamari, well, this aint itShrimp Cocktail - defrosted and powderyBaby Back Ribs & Fries - too drySteak - I thought my jaw didnt belong to me after dinnerSpent over $100 for dinner. It definitely wasnt worth it. It really let me understand why many others were just lounging with drinks. Honestly, the only thing I didnt mind was the fries. Even the fries werent fresh/crispy.Suggestions:1. Shorten the food wait time2. Stop checking in peoples items and collect money3. Serve real food that YOU want to eatIn the times where customers move instantly for better quality and better service, Carolines really gotta step it up.
It was my 1st time visiting from Philly. LUENELL gave me life. She was brilliant gorgeous sexy witty & FABULOUS!! The comedians on her line up were hilarious and I felt likevI learned about her upbringing and some of the things she went to getting to stardom. Shes an amazing icon & now a FENTY AmbassadorSide Bar, the drinks were strong & Poppin & the Buffalo wings were the TRUTH, although the blue chz to dip was a Lil subpar but I devoured them while LOL 😆🤣😂😁
The show was at 7pm, but if you make a reservation for 5:30pm dinner, they will serve you just outside of the comedy club room and save you a table for the show. You can leisurely finish your dinner even after they begin seating, because they have already saved a table for you in the club room. The food menu offered a good variety at reasonable rates. There is a 2 drink minimum in the club room, but dinner drinks do not count. They tell you that, so no surprises. The host and 3 other comics presented until around 8:30pm. Great time!
Very HOTTTT inside. I wore jeans thinking it would be cool because of the AC but on this 90 degree day it wasnt turned on. The service was ok they may need more servers. I wasnt asked if I wanted anything else before being handed a bill. First time here, it was ok otherwise and food was good.
We were very happy with our experience. My daughter’s plane was very late and we weren’t sure we could make our 7:30 Michael Rapaport show. I called and explained the situation. They were so accommodating and changed our reservation to the 10:30 show. We made it in time. The drinks were good, the nachos flavorful. Michael was great, the other two opening acts were just okay. We got to meet Michael and take pictures before the show. He was great! We loved the old building and the atmosphere. We would definitely attend another show here. Thanks so much to Linnea and the phone reservation female (can’t remember her name) for all your help! We enjoyed everything!!
I wish I could rate my experience half a star or no stars at all. The entire night had been a disaster of misinformation and trying to suck every dime out of us. We paid for gold tickets to sit close for the show and told to eat dinner early to reserve seats in the hall. Not only did the girl at the counter have trouble finding my name and getting my tickets, she couldve even find out reservation and we had us sit at the bar for 20+ minutes while she figured it out. After sitting at the bar and paid for drinks, we finally got a table. The wait staff could care less about serving us and we had to constantly try to get them to the table for drinks and food. The only time we were directly talked to was the staff ushering and forcing to check our coats telling us we need to in order to get in smoothly. When we got our food, both our orders were incorrect including toppings we order but we were assured that we would get a seat inside reserved. After dinner, we tried to get the check and couldnt get it for 20 minutes and the waiter disappeared with our credit card. While we attempted to get the check back, they were seating for the rows and stated they arent sure if we would have a reserved seating for eating dinner anymore which made us wait in line anyway in the back. After we got inside with no secured seating, we saw that people kept their jackets and bags inside. It felt like we were punished for following orders while they could care less about having us. Dont recommend to anyone.
I love watching comedy shows here. Right in the middle of the city. 2 drink minimum required and it doesnt have to be alcohol. Ive done dinner before the show and the food is good. Presentation is nice my salad was fancy looking. Most comedians stay after the show lounging around so you can take a pic on your way out depending on the comedian.
It was cool. Really tight seating arrangements. Two drink minimum per person even on ticketed events. Buffalo wings were excellent. Drinks were about average poor of alcohol. Close quarters can be hit or miss on customer experience with these types of small places. They dont take discover card! Gratuity is included even on parties of 2. I recommend the basket of fries and the one of their themed drinks that come with a souvenir glass if you are from out of town. The view is decent anywhere in the main room, not including extreme left or right of stage which still isnt terrible.
Brought a group of about 40 clients and team members here for a night of fun. We saw Justin Willman and had a great freaking time! He put on an excellent show and everyone couldn’t have laughed more.As a group, we did the open bar package and thankfully we did. Drinks were strong and kept flowing 😉 be sure to eat more than some us did beforehand 😂I’ll definitely be back with a large group or even a small one.
We saw Drew Lynch and a couple of other stand up comedians, all excellent! The show itself was awesome and we thoroughly enjoyed it.The layout of the venue is good, no issues with A/V at all and I was comfortable at our table. Im not really sure what the MO is for comedy clubs like this but we had 3 other randoms at our immediate table and it was less than pleasant (not really the fault of the venue I suppose).Knocking off a star because we paid extra for dinner reservation and there was a miscommunication about which line to stand in. The dinner and drink service was a little subpar, the food took almost an hour to get to our table and they seemed understaffed. Food and drinks themselves were B+.Overall, enjoyed it and recommend it.
Would give it 5 stars but I paid for V.I.P seats and my back was facing the stage. 🤷♂️ Table service could be better too. I understand they are busy but service could be better, the tip is already included on your bill so some times it feels like the servers dnt care. Despite all of this the the comedy is always great and the food is good. Its the only comedy show I have been to multiple times. Good vibes.
We came here early May. Great comedians! 2 drink minimum, even if your pregnant, so I paid $10 for bottled water. The comedians had decently timed sets. The seating is ok. Booths and tables.. kind of assigned as you come in. VIP isnt worth it. Id return. Definitely worth it. Free or cheaper comedy cant compete
Do yourself a favor and skip the dinner in the lounge and just get to the show early and order within the venue. The lounge “restaurant” is chaotic, service is super slow, and there is zero ambience as it’s basically makeshift entrance turned into a restaurant space. The venue and show itself was fun. Though, the drinks seems watered down by about 50%. My grey goose martini, no vermouth, did not taste like the kind I make at home.
Love the atmosphere comedians are really good and food had a great selection. Drinks are pricey and not that strong. Also I sometimes feel uncomfortable with the jokes from some of the African American comedians, Im Jamaican and I even think they go overboard with the reverse racism. Still all in all the shows are usually great when the headliner comes on. We just need to adapt the Good old Jamaican saying out of many one people
Let me start out by saying that I went to Carolines for Bill Bellamy and Jess Hilarious shows. Both shows that I went to were fantastic. The venue pretty much is spot on with the talent that it is able to acquire and it also seemingly starts on time or close to time. However, when it comes to catering during the show, this needs to be more organized. The money takes too long to be collected and I recall that one of the guys tried to rush customers out even though none of us had our credit cards yet. My advice would be to pay with cash or eat before the show. Plus, ask for a take home tray at least a half of an hr before the show ends.
This is a staple of top line comedy shows and the acts here always good including the support.Aside from the talent, the venue is less appealing. DO NOT order any food here, its nasty pre-prepared greasy bar food and its far too expensive. The drinks are also steep but at least they are reliable for quality.Because this places has great comedy acts it draws a large crowd and the venue struggles to manage that crowd before they go into the main theatre. Be prepared for pushing and shoving and people lying to get better seats.
Amazing show, Horrible business. I frequent comedy clubs all over the city and there isnt a 2 drink minimum anywhere that costs this much. I brought 3 family members with me, 4 tickets total costing a reasonable $150 considering (great openers, great headliner). The two drink minimum however ended up costing more than the tickets, and our entire second round was 4 bottles their fancy water.
This place is legendary but the service we received was terrible. Probably because they automatically bill 15% gratuity (for your convenience). The system for entering the main room is horrendous: they give you a ticket with a number, then start calling numbers in groups of ten, (ex: now seating tickets 1-10) but folks with higher numbers just stand by the entrance (waiting for their turn) blocking the entry so it takes forever.Drink prices range from $14 to $30 and there is a two-drink minimum, so keep that in mind. The comedians are usually top notch. But unfortunately, Carolines can do much better to streamline and improve its patrons experience.
Went and saw Jaboukie Young-White here and the show was awesome. Didn’t realize there was a two drink minimum and they were pretty pricey but that didn’t detract from the night. I didn’t know any of his openers or the MC but they were all equally fantastic. If you do GA they give you a seating group when you show up, so get there early to be seated earlier and closer.
Loved the show the tickets arent bad. If youre looking for a fancy night out, this might be the place. But keep in mind the 2 drink minimum. But also keep in mind anything you have at the bar before the show doesnt count towards that. But they are upfront about that.
Typical set up for comedy shows. But it is a larger venue than most comedy clubs so that was nice. Still crammed like sardines tho.I only had French fries they were shoestring and burned crispy. yuck. The mango martini was okay. Drinks range from like 8 for a beer to 20 for cocktails. I had a good time. I saw Jess hilarious she was hilarious she gets 5 stars!
Good comedy club, usually has a good list of comedians each night but being that its times square also means that its going to be more expensive then other comedy clubs and harder to find parking. If you can take public transportation and save yourself the hassle. Comedian we saw was funny, the apps were ok and the drinks were not bad.
I wouldnt suggest you eat here on any day theres an act. The restaurant part downstairs is very small and gets smaller when it is the waiting room for those going in to see a show. However, the venue puts on some really good shows and the drinks are not too expensive. Its a good outing.
Food and drinks were great. Loved the atmosphere. We initially had a mix up where we made dinner reservations for 630, but when we got there we were told they could not honor that and that we would have do wait for the show to start to order inside. That was a lil annoying to hear especially when we had called in advance... you hear at the time that it was too late was uncool. But we waited the hour for the show to start and it was great otherwise
I have been twice. The servers and staff are very nice. Its bigger than most comedy clubs I have been to in the past. Although I wish the stage was bigger so they can move around more its still a nice venue. The food on the other hand is a whole nother situation it is not the best food it is very overpriced for what it is if they would raise the quality of the food the prices would match. And charging $5.25 for a club soda and lime is ridiculous by the way. However their choice in bottled water is awesome its Italian and it tastes great.
Was walking by with my son and got invited in by handsome Joe Hanley. We had a really good time. Handsome Joe was worth the wait as well as the closing act. Comfortable seating and great nachos. Thank you Joe for having us, you are just as funny on the sidewalk as the stage. We will see you again, when we are back in town. Cheers
Ive been thinking Carolines on Broadway twice both time I walk way feeling my money could have been spent in a better place. They were disorganized and the DJ / Host seem to be going through some personal issues by rude and sort with customers. They treat you like cattle when moving you from room to room and the service was a bit of a mess. The the check drop in the middle of the headliners set both time was a bit distracting. Setting was off as well putting a very tall gentleman in the front row blocking the stage. The place look a bit dated and run down.. oh and forget about the meet and greet, they will rush you through like they are paying you extra for the experience. the comedian even felt uncomfortable with the situation mentioning it on his podcast. Too many comedy clubs in NYC to get sucked into that for the service and price.
Everything was good once we got into the section to see the show. The food and drink service prior to that was the worse Ive ever experienced. The orders were wrong, late, or never showed up. Not just for us but other patrons seated near us. They even put the wrong charges on our credit cards and had to redo it. The expensive Caesar salad was just a head of lettuce with 4 croutons and salad dressing. They have the nerve to require a 15 percent service charge. If I wasnt running late for the show due to the poor service I would have had them remove it.
If the comedians are good. And most of the times they are, it compensates for the overpriced bottom shelf two minimum drinks (Per person )and garbage food. Oh and let’s not forget the seating sucks so bad the further back you are and if you’re not 6 feet tall good luck trying to see the face of the comedians.
Prices are a bit high for what they’re offering (compared to better places like the Comedy Cellar) and the mixed drinks were not impressive. I paid $14 for a mojito. Menu said fresh mint but it was unappetizing old. The wine was much better. The standup itself was as expected for what was essentially amateur night.
If I can give it zero stars I would. Was scheduled for an 8:15pm dinner reservation for a 10:30pm show and arrived about twenty minutes earlier. The hostess told me she wasn’t sitting for that yet. Come an hour later she told me check in wouldn’t start because the 630pm show hadn’t been cleared for the beginning of the 830pm show and had to wait. The place was a mad house and overly crowded and heaven forbid an emergency would have happened, it wouldn’t have been pretty. No where to stand, the lines were all the way outside and it was freezing. Once 9pm hit, they were starting to check in the people for the 830pm show however the hostesses were already giving “tickets” for the 10:30pm show to some people but not us; not that it would have mattered because I had a number in the teens and was all the way in the back and when I told the seating gentleman he just said “you had dinner reservations right?” And he threw the paper on the table all the way in the back and kept going. What was the point of getting there early and getting a seat up front if they will put you wherever they feel like? Staff unprofessional and rude except for the waitress who served us for dinner (in the coldest section of the local I must add) and the waiter at the show room who was nice. I felt for them because they were apologizing for their managers and company’s lack of ethics, organization and competence when it isn’t even their fault. Food overpriced, drinks tasted like water. My show ended up starting at close to 1am and by the time it reached that point, I was so disappointed and exhausted by yelling back at a coat checking lady who said I was standing in a stairwell (a fire hazard according to her but everyone and their mother was squeezed into the place and it had been like that since I arrived anyways) and couldn’t be there and she was as obnoxious being loud and saw her even shouting at her staff, that I couldn’t enjoy my show the way I would have wanted to and we were really looking forward to watching. Never again will I be going back there. Ever again.
Extremely pushy with the two drink minimum. Constantly harassed by our waiter to order drinks. The table next to us was even interrupted during a moment of audience participation with the comedian we were seeing. Pretty bad look for a venue to interrupt during a show that you paid to see. Otherwise its a mediocre comedy venue in times square, but the service was a real turn off.
I dont know why so many people are giving this place bad reviews. The food costs so much because you get a lot. We got a huge basket of fries and zucchini chips and that filled us up before the show started. My husbands drinks were strong and our waiter was very attentive. Im 5mo pregnant and was comfortable at this venue. Get there early and you wont have a problem.
I was there last night and the only turn off about this place was the Manager Peter!! Me and my family had come in late to the show last night, and the other part of our family where already waiting for us inside. They had already checked in and were trying to save us seats. We bought a total of 17 tickets and 10 were inside already. Other people sat next to our family and the manager thought that they were the other part of the party, the (7) that we’re missing. He thought we didn’t buy tickets and we were trying to get in for a free show etc. He was yelling and screaming at us, told us to go home multiple times, he definitely needs to get his attitude checked cause for a business man your throwing away potential clients. After a good :30 minutes of waiting and trying to explain to his hard headed non compliant self, he finally understood and let us in. Worst experience ever! Hire a new Manager, maybe the red headed hostess in the front she was much nicer and tried to help.
The show and comedians here were phenomenal. The VIP options to reserve seats are absolutely not worth it though. The food for us was horrid, and the service was possibly worse. A medium-well burger took an additional 10 mins to get to the table after everyone elses food had arrived, and was a hockey puck between buns. Go here for the show, avoid the food.
Its got better did than drinks, and the seating overall is pretty good wherever youre at. However the way the seating is done is pretty slow because they have no method for seating people as they come in. Service is kind of slow, and the drinks are absolute garbage- bottom bottom shelf liquor.
Carolines was a great experience for me. For a comedy club on Broadway, just north of Times Square, it brings both the big city and small stage to the fore depending on what day and time you go. Me and a friend went for an open night and it was $16.50 each, plus a $5 cover charge. The two drink minimum was clearly disclosed by both the host and the wait staff. Alcohoic, soft drinks, and bottled water all count toward the minimum. The drinks are $5 and up. Tap water is free and comes with or without ice. Bag check fee is $2, to my belief its cash only. The MC for our show was a well versed, well sardonic native New Yorker. He did a great job in working the crowd and riffing us at the right moments. In his opening set, some microphone stand difficulties became apparent, and I wasnt sure if it was schtick or just a coincidence. The various speakers at the open night noticed as well while performing their routine, and each worked around it or used it to their advantage. In each set, the comedians performed their bits with great finesse, and the segues were pretty seamless. Not every comedian got a laugh each time, but the purpose of open mic is to express oneself and work on their craft. You cant fault them for trying! There were some things that kept it from being a perfect experience, namely the midges that we saw flying around occasionally under the spotlight because of the constant presence of food at the venue. While this unavoidable when working with food, it isnt a pleasant sight to look at and distracted a tad from the sets. Lighting the stage more and the front row less would make it less obvious. Also, a friend of mine ordered a drink that came in a free commemorative glass and had it taken away; he needed to ask the wait staff for one to keep.Nonetheless, you definitely should give it some close consideration. Many of the comedians will stay after the show to speak with guests or take pictures. This is a comedy club with a great reputation, and being a member of the audience certainly will take you on that ride.
Lets start with the good parts. Its location in Times Square is super convenient, the check in with the hostess was simple. And thats when things started going downhill. We did the dinner option. The server was horrible, we had to ask for water. After ordering from the limited menu, and waiting 15 mins we asked the waiter were was our food. She said the kitchen is understaffed and walked off in a huff. 45 mins later we got food. My food was burned, over cooked and dried out. I noticed that the table beside us who also had been waiting only got 3 out if the 4 meals they ordered. The seating leaves something to be desired. Im use to being able to pick my seat if I arrive early at other clubs, but this club just seats you 1st. We had people come in after us seated in front of us. During the show we ordered the 2 drinks per person. Which is the norm. The problem was the waiter forgot to bring us our change. When we asked for the change, he couldnt remember what we paid him. We were dumbfounded. This was the worst service ever!! If you go eat 1st and have exact change.
Worst thing about this place is that its in Midtown. The service is quick, the seating gives everyone a fair view, and the A/V setup is good enough to be inconspicuous. Comedians joked about not having a backstage, so maybe thats annoying for performers, but it was nice to have them scattered among us.
Went to the show called “Funniest show on Broadway” and while the venue, lineup and service were good, we did experience a little hiccup with the staff that was serving our drinks. This place automatically includes 15% gratuity into your bill, and they even wrote quite clearly no gratuity needed. So when we paid for ours, and had quite a bit of change left which never came, I approached the staff just to check. To which he rudely replied “I asked you earlier and you said you don’t want the change”. I had overheard him asking the table NEXT to us this question but not to our table, so he had clearly mistaken us for them. So when I replied it was the next table that had said that, he gave a dirty look and hurried off to get the change. Would have happily given that change as extra tip if only he hadn’t been so rude about it.
Comedians were funny. Service was not the best. I had the rotten luck of being the only table in our row who didnt get their drink order. In fact I received my first drink after other attendees in my row got their 2nd drinks. My second order of drinks was received around the time the show was ending. The drinks seemed a bit watered down. I dont think what I experienced was a typical experience that guests should expect but it was a disappointing experience 😔. I hope that this was simply due to the event being sold out and the staff being stretched thin so I would absolutely give them another shot. Ill review again on second visit.
This was my Wife’s and my first visit back to NYC in 27 years. We bought tix to Kevin Nealon’s standup routine at Caroline’s on Broadway the night before the show. I have to say after reading all of the reviews that evening I really wanted to cancel. Well let me say don’t always rely on reviews. We purchased (2) Orange Harlequin Tix which gives you a better seat and a souvenir mug or pint glass. We arrived about 50 min. early and when we arrived at the will call desk we received our tix with a #1 on the seating assignment. About 15 min before the show started we were let in and escorted to our seats center stage and 12 feet away. Seats were great and the place was fairly crowded but we had plenty of room and we were not made to give away our coats as many people complain about. We ordered a club sandwich and fries to split $15 and 3 beers at $7.50 each. Apparently the food counted towards our 2- drink min each. With tip we spent an extra $51 which for NY doesn’t seem unreasonable. Kendal at the Will Call desk was pleasant and professional. Cade was I guess a manager of some sort and very kind and professional. We had a great time and will return for future acts.
Still my favorite spot for comedyIve been seeing shows since college here. Chris Rock, Michael Winslow, Jay Mohr, Dave Attell and so many amazing others! Dont just show up for the headliners - the new comedians are fantastic and will leave you in stitches as well. The drinks are delish and I have made my home bar full of their signature glasses and shot glasses, ha! The food is good but you dont need to eat there to enjoy the laughs.
Show itself was great but logistics were awful. You are required to check bags in but the person checking bags is incredibly bitter about having to do it and mutters about it continuously. Waiting room is tiny compared to the number of people waiting so everyone is standing on top of each other. Not sure how this isnt a fire hazard.... Since they allow people to go in based on the number you were given when you checked in for will call tickets everyone rushes to stand by the front. Guests from previous show left 10 minutes before next show was to start making it even more hectic. Anyway, show was worth it but the two drink minimum was not.
My wife and I went on a Sunday to see the local comedians. The venue is good. The drinks are expensive. There is a two drink minimum for the evening show and the ones purchased at the bar in the lobby do not count. The wait staff is a little disruptive it I dont know how they could do anything different. Out of the ten or so comedians, the last three were funny. The first seven, were not. Note to new comedians. If the audience is not laughing, youre not funny. Berating them all night, does not help.
We saw Ken Jeong who was amazing. Wasnt happy with general service in the fact that tickets were expensive (this was expected) however they force you to buy 2 drinks minimum at an extravagant price! I found this unfair as this was enforced and told to us on the night - it shouldve been mentioned when purchasing tickets
Love going here. This is a nice place to go I go here a few times a year to see the best comedians the food is decent the drinks are decent but youre coming here to see a comedy show and they definitely deliver. Its very cozy and you get up close and personal with the comedians you can also take pictures afterwards its a nice night out
I had a great experience. Everyone was very nice and accommodating. I paid for dinner and a show. When I got there, they oversold the dinner tables. They ended up giving us better seats. If you really want dinner I would suggest choosing the first dinner time available. That way you will get a table and have time to eat. I got to meet and take pictures with both Gabriel Iglesias (Fluffy) and Maz Jobrani. It’s a small intimate place. Only thing that sucked was the two drink minimum per person. A bottle of water was around $5-7 if I remember correctly. Overall, I would definitely go again.
The coat check is required and only accepts cash. Youre given a number once you check in and wait at the bar to be called. The earlier you arrive, the better your seats. Once youve been seated youll be handed a menu and informed youre required to purchase at least two drinks throughout the night. The menu is expensive and nothing too great. If you come alone youll most likely be seated at tables with strangers.
First name in comedy - last name in bag checking.Evident when the bag checking woman who showed up 15 minutes let- kept interrupting people in the middle of their conversations as they walked in- the. While I’m sitting at the table with wife and friends began to scream over us- when I told her we were talking she then decides it’s ok to call me nasty for calling her out in a louder tone and expect me to believe she’s running the place. Other than that- the room is beautiful and the acts were great. Shame such a place has to lose business over their support staff.
Would have been five stars except for the negativity of the actual comedians toward the end. One can not just always blame the crowd for lack of enthusiasm after 2.5 hours on a Monday night!!!! We have been to top name and no-name acts in Vegas and NYC so we are no rookies. The last guy was awesome!!! Just because people are not rolling on the floor does not mean we dont appreciate the talentt as an audience. Look in the mirror and not out the window guys. We thoughly enjoyed the show and will be back. Clean club good food.
This place is a dumpster fire, a complete shitshow. First, they dont tell you until after paying almost $100 for two tickets about the two drink minimum, but then you get there and two of the three decent beers on their menu are no mas. Would never set foot in this place again. Kevin Nealon can be the funniest peron on earth and it will not redeem this place.
I went and saw Ron Bennington host a show with Dan Pearlman. It was an awesome time. Very nice venue. I wasnt a fan of the mandatory coat and bag check, but who cares right? Its also important to note that there is a two-drink minimum and food does not count towards the drinks wasnt a problem for me. But it really seem to stump the people next to me. Im pretty sure they thought they had to order their two drinks at the same time. The poor waitress had to wait around while a bunch of indecisive people decided which juices would be most pleasing to their pallet, no big deal its not like theres a hundred people waiting to have their order taken.
Basic upscale two drink minimum basement comedy club. Except the acts are often known names and occasional celebrities. A comedy club is nothing but the acts right? Also serves dinner. Food looked appealing. Tables with stool seating in back (that are uncomfortable after a while). Most seats are close enough to still feel like a small club.
They get good acts, but they force you to have a 2 drink minimum per person inside the comedy venue. If you get a drink at the bar in front of the comedy hall entry - it doesnt count in your 2 drink minimum. If you dont have min 2 drinks each, they will charge you minimum service fee charge....on top of standard 15% charge you will pay anyway.Overall - good comedy acts, decent & cozy venue, terrible service & money grabbing staff...
You are required to check your bag. It costs $2 to check it. If theyre the ones that want you to check your bag, you shouldnt be the one paying for it. Also, the comedian seemed to be drunk, and they kept asking my group to move our chairs back. Finally, theres a two drink minimum. If I already paid for a ticket, I should not be required to pay even more for drinks I dont even want. If they literally cannot turn a profit without me ordering two drinks, just charge more for the ticket instead of adding all these disingenuous charges.I will never return to this place, and I suggest no one else come either. It is deceptive, unethical, and ultimately not even that good.
Terrible experience! Saw a few acts that were okay until the headliner came out and heckled my wife who was fully supportive and cheering for the acts. Guess the comic was insecure and started yelling at my wife and eventually had us escorted out because of her inability to seperate good cheering from bad. What a joke! Would not recommend this place as it’s a complete disaster from top to bottom if this is who they let represent the club. Other guests who were complete strangers got up and left in full support that the hack comic completely overreacted.
The comedian I saw there was EXCELLENT! But the service was terrible. I ordered a piece of strawberry shortcake before the show started. I finally got my cake as the show was ending, AND it was AWFUL and half frozen. The only reason I gave this place a star is because the comedy was good.
Food and drinks are a tad on the high priced side but the entertainment was great. Opener was Kevin Iso and holy smokes is he funny. Look him up. Seriously do it. The mainliner was Sugar Sammy. He is offensive as fudge and worth every penny. The crowd was really good and the service was decent during the show. Gotta love a Canadian that can make fun of everyone is multiple languages.
Walking by on Monday got invited in by Handsome Joe Hanley. Had a really good time. Show has a lot of comics performing. Enjoyed staying to the end. Handsome Joe was really funny, we are glad we came to see the show. Good place to be on a Monday night. Show is in Times Square.
I bought tickets for a show yesterday and waited in line with many others for over an hour. The doors never opened and there were no lights on inside we all still waited because we paid. I would think as a popular business you would let people know if the show was cancelled. I live in CT so the face we waited over an hour for nothing was aggravating!!!
I received a phone call around June 3, 2013 from a Manager at Carolines in response to a letter I mailed. In my note, I explained how my party of 3 from Denver (ranging in age from 29 to 52) recently spent $261 for a night at Carolines, only to have it totally go to waste due to the poor acoustics and/or (performer) sound checkups at the venue. None of us could make out what the comedians were saying since the sound was so garbled. I indicated our seat location in the club, and I was told by the Manager that he would follow up and call me back within 1 -2 days. I never heard back and I am disappointed with Carolines. In such a special place with talented performers, both the artists and the audience deserve the best experience.
Came here to see Shawn & Marlon Wayans and they were absolutely hilarious! I arrived with a friend & we were treated nice by the staff. Its a small venue so I imagine that anywhere you sit, youll have a great view of the performers on stage. Yes there is a 2 drink minimum & yes drinks are expensive but what venue isnt like that? I picked the cheapest drink available & there are plenty of places around Carolines to get something to eat. They manage to get well known comedians & at $32 for my ticket, Im definitely interested in coming back.

2022-01-11The Classic Comedy Spot! The I Made It spot! Comedians know that Carolines on Broadway is where you headline as proof that youve made it.Large, bright and airy, the stage is huge yet the club feels intimate. I arrive, theres a vaccine card check at the door. Then a mandatory coat check which is cool for two bucks. I enter the space. The stage is all along the left, seats, tables and booths to the right. The signature drinks named after famous comedians are delicious and strong, plus you get to take home the souvenir gold rimmed glass home. The food is tasty. The comedy edgy and hilarious. Good times were had by all.

2022-05-02They pack you in really tight in this place. I wore a mask, most didnt. There is a two drink minimum, I bought a drink and a dessert. At the end of the night, you get an exit ticket that you handover at the door, to confirm you purchased the minimum required... The waiter was either really attentive or pushy to encourage you to keep buying, leaning toward the latter.VIP seats are the best, nice and close to the front. Great comedy, and the apple tart and pinot grigio were really good.

2022-04-18Went to see Corey Holcomb this past Saturday night and I laughed all 2+ hrs I was there.Caroline’s was walking distance from my hotel which made the experience even better. The check-in process and seating (they did a great job with this because I felt like everyone could see) was seamless, the drinks are strong, and the establishment was clean (especially the bathrooms) and friendly. I didn’t eat the food, but a friend did and it looked/smelled amazing.Lastly, I loved the vibe of the whole place, it was so NYC. I definitely recommend.

2022-04-24What a great time we had here. We love Carolines because you can semi reserve a table. We do not drink so we reserve the Green tables. It gets you one of the best seats for only $25. If you like to drink you can upgrade to the full bar tables which are slightly better (sometimes) seats. We multiple nights to see different shows but the best by far was Brad Williams, the Little Person comic. OMG was he ever funny. He did 90 minutes on a Sunday night and we were in tears the entire time. He was nice enough to take a photo with us afterwards as well. Great drinks we were told but probably best to eat before or after :-). It is a comedy club after all. But WOW it is great. Lots of room at the tables and not squished in. be sure to sit front row if you can so they can make fun of you. It makes for a very memorable evening. They always make fun of me and I LOVE it.!!!! Funny times for all. Check out all of our reviews. If we do not like it we do no review it so all of the ones you see are places that are fantastic. Follow us if you like. We had over 7 million views in 2021 and we thank you for that. We dont get paid, we just love to eat. Be sure to click on RobH at the top of this review to see all of them and to follow us if you like good food and FUN.

2022-02-21Got to see Jim Norton here and he killed it! The razztini was a tasty drink, tho the Tracy Morgan was… well I should have known what I was getting myself into with that one.

2022-06-03The show was funny, atmosphere was great. I only ordered wings, and 2 drinks. The wings were a bit salty and I prefer mines a bit softer, but they were still good. Drinks were on point. Service could have been better because it was not a packed house, but overall I will be returning to Carolines!!! Will try a different menu item too!

2022-04-14We went to “The Funniest Show on Broadway” and had a great time! The comics were mostly local and many are writers on shows like The Daily Show, Jimmy Kimmel and John Oliver. The crowd was not huge , likely due to Wednesday night and time of year but it was almost better this way as it was very intimate. An overall great time and totally worth the price of admission. Drinks were good too. Glad I was able to visit this legendary club and will definitely be back next time I’m in town.

2021-10-24First time visiting Carolines on Broadway for a Show. I felt welcomed from the moment I walked in to this venue. The table service was excellent. My waiter was super nice and made my experience great. I ordered the best zucchini chips I’ve ever tasted and the drinks were amazing.Definitely will be coming back to see more shows here.

2022-05-30First time attending this venue, it was very nice, sophisticated, staff was professional and polite, I believe they have a 2 drink minimum policy to reserve a table for a show. This does not include any drinks bought before the show, only during. I am leaving 4 stars because the food I ordered was a little undercooked and I had to send it back, the replacement plate was no better.
