Exactly as everyone says - very short wait time (the women are super efficient counting number of people in your party in advance) -- waitresses very friendly and also anticipating your needs (coffee cup filled without you having to ask) and pancakes just keep appearing out of nowhere. I wish I had taken photos to post. Next time.
My family goes here every year, it is only open about 2 months out of the year. It is ok if you like buckwheat pancakes, sausage, real (I mean real real) maple syrup and eggs. I personal do not like any of these things except the eggs however it is a family tradition so I still go and have coffee and eggs. The pancakes are all you can eat which I guess if you like them is cool and a great selling point. It also has a maple syrup Museum in the basement, I am sure I probably saw it as a child but have not been down to the basement as an adult so I am not sure about that part. They do also sell maple syrup and maple syrup souvenir nick-nacks things. The line to get in always seems crazy and long however it does move fast and if it is nice out is not as bad as it seems.
They are only open a couple minutes months a year for breakfast. We make the 1.5 hour drove every year as a tradition for all you can eat pancakes with fresh made maple syrup. This is a MUST. You also learn about syrup is made. The drive is beautiful and itβs such a special family memory we make every year.
Im not fond of buttermilk pancakes but Cartwrights buckwheat pancakes are worth the trip. I always eat three of them every time I visit. There are lots of other items available if you prefer. The best part of my visits to Cartwrights is the customer service. No matter how busy they are, and they get seriously busy, everyone always has a smile, a refill for your coffee or a fresh plate of pancakes for you. The staff here is amazing and they deserve recognition for all their wonderful service. Try their sausage patties with your pancakes, they have great flavor and arent greasy at all. I picked up a 2lb bag of pancake batter for only $6 to make at home after Cartwrights closes for the season. They are open for a very short while so make sure you stop by!
Cartwrights is a awesome place to check out atleast once a year. They are open only for a little longer than 2 months a year. They are known for their Maple syrup and buckwheat pancakes. The pancakes are unlimited for everyone that comes for a meal. My cousin and I drive an hour and a half each year to have breakfast at this spot at this pancake spot. People from locals and travelers stop here. They have been around for many many years. Have made alot of people and families happy during the February, March and April months. Many countdown to the next years opening when they close for the season.I would give it a 4.7 out of 5. Waitresses and food are great. The only reason why I dont give it the top rating is because I wish there was more of a selection on the menu.
It is a beautiful senic drive out to a large shack with pancakes. A nice way to spend a sunday morning. The syrup is an attraction here that is so popular the line at times goes for hours. The buckwheat pancakes are fluffy and just the right consistancy. The syrup is sweet and just thick enough to stick but still poor nicely. I think it is all you can eat as they gave an initial plate of 3 each then a large plate for the table. Sausage and meats are extra. They also have burgers and other selections but we where there for pancakes.
Great all-you-can-eat buckwheat pancakes and maple syrup! We were there recently and they had a power outage at about 2pm! Too bad they had to turn down a long line of people. But the servers were in high spirits. Some of the people we saw later eating in Angelica, NY.
Who can pass on pancakes and syrup! Delicious and well worth the wait! Staff is also very friendly and well mannered no matter how packed the place is. Other standard breakfast items are available such as eggs, sausage and ham, toast. The maple tea and shake are to die for though! If you cant get your fill and you walk away hungry thats your own fault. Should also mention this is a cash only place for both the restaurant and gift shop. But dont fret there is an ATM on location! Get there early!
We have been going there for years now. The drive is always beautiful, but the food is amazing the maple syrup is sooo good on their perfectly delicious buckwheat pancakes. I love watching them work, they are like a fine swiss watch. The smiles are as plentiful as the food. In non pandemic years we have visited where they make the syrup and never have we left without taking home some syrup and other treats for the year. This year we are surprising our eldestwith an Easter breakfast treat in the mail: buckwheat mix and syrup via mail. We hope she enjoys it, but I can not see how she wont.
Open for the season, take out only at the moment but if you can eat McDonalds in your car , you can enjoy Cartwrights in your car too and support these guys as they are only open a few months and dont necessarily have the ability to follow Covid indoor seating protocols. But they are also selling kits to make everything at home and various other items in the gift shop.
No lines no waiting. Quick service delicious pancakes too. Love the sausage there and we bought some from the gift shop to take home. Got a new sweatshirt for $30 too. Bring cash or bank on the atm machine there. No credit cards accepted. Checks at the gift shop are ok. Love this place had a fun time!
Absolutely amazing place! You will leave so full and in absolute heaven! π. It is a little bit on the pricey side, but there is amazing service and doing it once or twice a year definitely wont hurt your wallet. This is definitely one of my favorite laces to go, and if you get a chance you should totally swing by! There might be a line, but its worth a little wait honestly. It was all delicious and I will continue to support this place!
It was okay, but not spectacular. In fairness, they serve pancakes w/ him made Maple Syrup. I know half a dozen people who make their own syrup, and we live in the boonies. So, if youre from a big City, Cartwrights may be a much different, and Rockwelling experience for you.
Best buckwheat pancakes and homemade sausage, along with real Maple syrup. You cant go wrong! Not to mention, all you can eat pancakes and great efficient service. Dress warmly because the line can get long and its cold up there. Worth the wait. Go early to beat the crowds.
Nice driveBest pancakes anywhere with their own syrup.Depending what time of day, the line can be a wait, but in 35 years have never seen anyone get out of the line and leave.Great place for a family (mult. generations) meal and a tradition that my daughter is continuing with her kids.
This is that place you just have to go to at least once a year. Probably the best maple syrup on Earth and the friendliest family to serve it to you! This place is literally West of East Bajesus and still worth the yearly pilgrimage. Thanks again Cartwright family...celebrated our 20th year of your family service and wonderful Maple syrup. See you next yr.
Great place for some homemade maple syrup and endless pancakes! It was a cold and frosty wait to get inside but the line moved fairly quickly. Once inside it is warm and inviting with a friendly atmosphere. We even had a visit from the owner as we were enjoying our pancakes making sure that everything was delicious. Overall a great place to take the family.
What can you say about Cartwrights that hasnt been said?! Theres nothing probably but there is definitely a new vibe there this year... Yes the Covid parameters are all in place, but, honestly its still everything you can expect about the place. Great service, great food, and yes, all you can eat pancakes... However, lets talk about their new partnership with Zwiegels to make the sausage!! Oh boy. The last few years, I was unsure about the other place making the sausage... But now with Zwiegels?! Yessss. It is amazing! I cant wait for a year to pass, to once more get up there for an amazing trip!
I have been going here for about 20 years, at least twice each year. It is a bit of a trip to get there, but worth it. Avoid Sunday after church or the line will be forever. Pancakes are great, and the syrup is even better. Note- their Buckwheat has change a bit this year,my wife was not as happy with that pancakes as before. I still ate a bunch and really did not notice
Phenomenal pancakes. The syrup is so good. Try to sausage patties if youre into that sort of thing!!! Beware it is cash or check only. No cards. We went and the ATM wasnt working. Theres sometimes a line out the door into the parking lot so be weary. But its well worth the wait!
One of our favorites...and that of many others. No tables/booths open at 8:15 AM on a Saturday morning. Quick, friendly and cheerful service. All the buckwheat pancakes & syrup you can eat. Good breakfast menu. About $10 per plate, when its over. Small, interesting museum. Small store of goodies. Fun. Go back every year.
Delicious buckwheat pancakes, real maple syrup, with ham and sausage. Sausage tastes and looks homemade. Next time I will forgo the ham. Went on Sat around noon. Plan to be on line 30-45 minutes. Faster seating for parties of 2-4. Once seated , the friendly service was fast, and it only took 15 min to be served. They are very organized to handle the crowds. Be sure to go downstairs to see the maple syrup production. We stocked up on Maple syrup at the gift shop!
I just LOVE their pancakes, the family feel, the price is budget friendly, the gift shop, the way the pancakes are made out in the open, and the coziness! I have been going to this restaurant for 20 years now! By far the best pancake house around! Worth the drive, every time!
First time visit was great! Went on a Sat afternoon around 2:00 and not really much line at all. All the staff was nice and helpful. Took a little while to get second serving of all you can eat pancakes but room was full so that is to be expected. Their pancakes were delicious and the homemade sausage was absolutely the best I have ever had! My daughter had a maple milk shake and it was very good too. The 1 1/2 he drive from Rochester was worth it. So for a once a year event, it is special for a family maple fix outing.
Pancakes were all you can eat and delicious!!! Maple syrup was amazing. Service was fast and good. Fassssttt seating. I had the all you can eat pancakes, 2 eggs, ham and sausage. Are eating 8 pancakes I thought I was going to die! There was also a small museum downstairs of historic equipment they used to make the syrup along with the modern stuff. This restaurant should def be visited if you go to letchworth state park.
It was amazing! Good pancakes, good sausage! The cooks are SO fast and friendly. Glad they have been in service for this long! The maple syrup is spectacular and real! Everyones got to try this place! You have to he prepared for a wait though, which none of us minded, since it went by so fast. Thanks owner and staff!
Staff is always nice. food is always yummy. they are quick at bringing out the next sets of pancakes if you have a larger group so you dont have to wait long. there is a large variety of maple products and they are cash only so be sure to bring extra money. you will likely leave wanting to buy syrup, candy, tea or pancake mix.
Always wonderful at Cartwrights! Service is spot on and wait staff is great, not to mention the buckwheat pancakes and pure maple syrup. We went on a Friday, no line to wait in. We have been before on maple weekend when there has been a line but it goes fast. There is alot of seating capacity. A must go to!
Omg I love buckwheat pancakes. I visit at least twice a season and I drive over an hour one way to get here. Awesome food. Great staff. Quick food delivery. Nice gift shop. They get you in and out quickly. Sometimes the line to get in is long but its worth the wait. You can meet new friends while waiting
Overall It was a fun family trip but food as just ok. We left at 8 for a little over an hour and half trip. Arrived at 930 and waited outside in line for a bit over an hour. We were seated and felt ignored by wait staff. The pancakes were good...but not worth 13 dollars per person with tip. They are all you can eat but no one in our group ate 13 worth.Dont get me wrong it is a neat place where you can see them boiling out the maple syrup...but I truly expected more.Lastly cash only so be aware of this when planning.
So worth waiting in line for those lovely, fluffy pancakes! The line moves quickly, so please dont be turned away by what looks like a human traffic jam at popular times. The menu is very simple, and everything is delicious. The maple syrup is of excellent quality, and the maple sugar candies are of that heavenly variety that melt on your tongue. A friend and I had the honor of sitting at the counter alongside the matriarch of the Inn; it was so cool to hear her stories and to have a front row seat to the pancake flipping show. The coffee is great, and the pancakes keep on coming until youll need a nap.
Its a family tradition to make it out for the delicious, all you can eat, pancakes. We love tradition and look forward to this every year. The buckwheat pancakes keep coming hot off the gridle. I love the extras too as you see history and maple syrup being made right on premises.
If youve not been, you simply MUST go.Bring your own bottled water though or get their juice. Its not just the pancakes that are amazing. They also do a respectable breakfast otherwise. Eggs, ham and sausage. All this for a really reasonable price to. Even if you drive alllll the way there and the line seems obscenely long, they do a really good job of getting folks in and out.
When you need buckwheat pancakes, there is no other place on Earth to go... Okay... Too broad a statement... There is no other place in New York State to go.They are open only during the maple syrup season in the early spring, but well worth the wait. Huge seating capacity, but there are almost always a waiting list to get in. Well worth the wait, whatever it may be.Super friendly staff.
Always good food and worth the drive. I always get the buckwheat pancakes with their sausage from a local butcher. Waitress was great and the food is reasonably priced. Dont forget to bring cash because they do not take credit cards and there is a cool little gift shop full of maple candies and so on.
There was a looong line here when we went on Maple weekend, but it moved quite quickly! The pancakes are to die for...so light and fluffy and the real Maple syrup is delicious. All the staff was really friendly, too. They had an artist painting in lobby while we waited and he was really great with my 8- year-old asking him questions and watching him. Great experience!
We look forward to visiting every year while theyre open. Delicious, old school buckwheat cakes! Real syrup- not that horrible corn syrup with artificial flavoring. Friendly staff. Dont forget to make a side trip to shop at all the antique and craft stores in Angelica.
Went early on a Friday, arrived about 15 minutes early and waited in line out the door and up the ramp under the enclosure. Pancakes, ham, eggs, and sausage were excellent, cant forget the syrup! Show up early or be prepared to wait a little. Hands down well worth the all you can eat pancakes for less then $8!
Great buckwheat pancakes at this place. Only open seasonal about 2 months mid February to mid April & closed Mondays & Easter Sunday. They bring you as many pancakes you can eat. Theyre thin so you can eat plenty with their own maple syrup. A must try if you can. We travelled almost 3 hours to get there.
Very worth the long beautiful drive in. The endless buckwheat pancakes will fill you up quick and the delicious fresh malls syrup will make them go down quick. We picked up a bottle or two to take home along with some pancake mix and had more over the next few weeks. Even though its usually crowded they do a good job of keeping the delicious food coming.
This place is only open when the maple sap is running. We drive about 30 miles to get there, once a year. Buckwheat pancakes and maple-flavored desserts are their specialty. You can go to the lower level and see how they process the sap into syrup. This place has been family-run for almost 60 years, and everyone who works there is descended from the original owners. Very friendly people.I can only give this 4 stars because the only kind of pancakes they have is buckwheat, which I, personally, do not care for.
Always a great place to eat. This restaurant is only open 2 months out of the year (February-April) after sap is harvested and they make their own awesome maple syrup on site. This is a breakfast joint. So if you go, be prepared for breakfast, brunch, or brinner. So worth it. Their buckwheat pancakes are the perfect vessel for their maple syrup. Trust me. And you can get bottles to take home on your way out the door, among other gifts and maple flavored goodies. Be forewarned though, this is a CASH ONLY establishment. They do have an ATM at the entrance, but when it gets busy (especially on the weekends) there may be a small chance it could run out. So I would advise you to get cash in advance and be prepared.
Pancakes are never my choice for breakfast unless I am eating here. They are delicious. Cartwrights also offer other standard breakfast menu items such as eggs, ham, sausage, bacon, plus even more. Although you must be prepared to wait in line, it is worth the wait. There is a reason they are so busy: GOOD FOOD!
An annual tradition for many families, we make the trek down to the Middle of Nowhere to eat buckwheat pancakes with the house made maple syrup and a side of fresh eggs, sausage and ham! Delicious! I get a years supply of syrup while Im there cause the grocery store stuff is not Real maple syrup like this is. You can watch how they make it in the basement but its only mildly interesting. Worth the drive from Rochester at least once in the two months that it is open each year. Go early or go late, always be prepared to queue up in the cold. Approx 90 minute drive from the city. On the way back, visit some cute antique shops in Mt Morris. Be on the lookout for Amish buggies, you will pass several Amish farms on the way to Cartwrights. Not a bad way to spend a day with the family, you wont regret it!
Although this place is little out of the way, it is well worth the trip. The combination of the food is outstanding. It is like the pancakes and syrup were just made for each other. To help make the trip worthwhile also take a look around the area as there is great small places to see.
The pancakes are amazing. Buckwheat pancakes that almost melt in your mouth. I updated my review from 4 to 5 stars! This place is so good. The service, the friendliness, the quality of food, and how accommodating they are for special needs or special tables. Thank you!
The pancakes are home made buckwheat pancakes, service is always so great and usually you never have to wait long for thw food! I definitely recommend getting the maple shake while there as well. SO GOOD! And the place is a little home town resturant that never seems to lose its touch. Ive been going there since I was old enough and its never let me down!
I still think its crazy to drive almost an hour and a half each way for pancakes once or twice a year, but weve done it for over 15 years now and are never dissapponited. The buckwheat pancakes are the best around and you get as many as you can handle. Weve learned to not go at peak times so we dont hit the long lines. Take home some mix to get you through the season they are closed! Cash and checks only, but they do have an ATM.
We have been taking our grandkids to Cartwrights as an annual trip for the last 5 years. They look forward to it every year and the food is always great! Even though its always busy, they managed to get people in, get them fed, full them up, and get them out in a very timely manner. All of the servers there are fantastic! Too bad theyre only open two months out of the year!
Great buckwheat pancakes and fresh maple syrup. Locally sourced sausage patties are a really good side to go with them. Lines can be long on weekends and lunch time, but reasonable mid morning and afternoon. No.credit cards accepted, but ATM on premises and checks accepted.
Went in the early evening. We got a table right away. Coffee was hot, food came out luckity split. Waitress was neither friendly nor down right rude, probably just trying to get through her shift. Delicious maple syrup of course. Coolest part was the museum of years past and a glimpse into their syrup processing area downstairs.
Buckwheat pancakes must be an acquired taste, but I wouldnt recommend them. Syrup is sweet but very thin. Worst part was that we asked for scrambled eggs made with egg whites for my daughter and were told No. They mix the scrambled eggs in advance and cant do that. Ironically, they make eggs to order, but cant separate 2 eggs for a seven year old. Very disappointing.
First time there. Had line to wait in, but a beautiful day to do it! Best buckwheat pancakes ever! The whole meal was great and the service was the best! Will be going back soon and also the wait in line was not that long. Clean, busy, and I think everyone should try it!
Great as always I have been going since I was a child the line was long over an hour to get into eat I suggest dressing warmly in layers as you will want to shed a few of them once being seated its very warm inside also this place may not be for the bacon lovers as it does not serve bacon. I got for the all you can eat buck wheat pancakes
My wife and I were part of a bus tour sponsored by the Cobblestone Museum of Childs that visited some Maple sugar houses and stopped at Cartwrights for a buckwheat pancake lunch along our tour. The seasonal business is well prepared to serve a very delicious pancake meal. Service was excellent and fast. The waitresses kept the coffee cups full and hot pancake tray full. They have a sugar free syrup however their main syrup is pure Maple, very tasty. The only disappointing part of the business was the gift shop only accepted cash, they do not accept debit card or any credit card, its cash only.
Absolutely the best buckwheat pancakes ever! You have to get the all-you-can-eat special with some coffee to wash it down. They also sell maple syrup, maple sugar candies and other decor. You can even take a tour of the syrup making facility. This is certainly an annual event!
Buckwheat pancakes may not be for everyone but for me its heaven. The staff are speed demons and they move people through this place. My favorite aspect is the simplicity, experiencing families being together, listening to little ones chatter and adults discussing the traditions. Its a step away from every day BS to enjoy the extraordinary with a lot of tasty goodies!
This is the second time weve visited Cartwrights Maple Tree Inn. It is an ever evolving, yet traditional, seasonal all-you-can-eat pancake restaurant. The menu is simple and limited. The wait staff is friendly, accommodating and fast. You can have eggs how you like them with sausage or bacon and all the buckwheat pancakes you can handle. The food is all prepared in full view of the dining area which is fun. But these delicious comestibles are merely a vehicle for the main attraction: the 100% pure NewYork State Maple syrup expertly crafted on site. This liquid gold can often be taken for granted by locals because it seems to be everywhere in the Northeastern US. But dont make that mistake. Pure maple syrup is truly a gift from God and the hard working men and women who produce this sweet amber miracle. At Cartwrights you will have the opportunity to see where and how the syrup is made, including a beautiful tour of the actual sugar bush (Maple trees) that supply the raw sap to be boiled down to perfection in the sugar shack. They even have a little store on site where you can buy all kinds of Maple goodies including their delicious syrup. See how theyve been making syrup for generations. This is a wonderful educational and delicious family trip for all ages.
This is a family tradition for us. We love going up at the start of maple season to grab some of their amazing buckwheat pancakes--all you can eat! They also have your typical beakfast sausage, eggs, plus milkshakes and pies. The restaurant also has a little shop where you can get pure maple syrup products. If youre new to the area this is a great place to check out!

2022-02-11A local staple in the community for years. The workers are super nice and the food is great. I always try to stop for lunch after work when Im in the area. I was in and out in less than a hour. They dont accept card so always bring cash or a check πTry to go on weekdays, there is always no line and its less crowded for sure. Mornings are better also. I visited on a Friday and it was busy but not packed.

2022-03-28Cartwrights is always a 5 star experience. No, maybe not a 5 star restaurant but definitely like your favorite dinner. They are only open seasonally but are worth the trip. They just opened this year and not many people are there, but usually there are long lines for their all you can eat buckwheat pancakes. While you are there be sure to pick up some of New York States finest maple syrup. Important note is that they only accept cash, but they do have an ATM.

2022-03-02Omg wonderful!!! Great buckwheat pancakes, incredible maple syrup and awesome service. You can tell that they love what they do. Cant wait to go back. We didnt have to wait long to be seated on a Thursday morning, but I felt bad for the people in line when we left, all the way into the parking lot.

2022-03-27They are only open seasonally during Maple Season. I know they draw a big crowd, so their line can get very long at times. They do a great job seating and serving their guests very well. The staff was very friendly and the food was delicious. My friend loved their maple milkshake. They are cash only, so I recommend bringing enough with you for your meal, a good tip and extra to buy some maple syrup or gifts to take home. They do have an ATM machine on site if you forget.

2022-03-20We have a tradition of going here every year with our family. Its worth the long drive (and sometimes long line) and never dissapoints! The all-you-can-eat buckwheat pancakes and maple syrup are worth any waiting and I promise you that youll have a smile on your face when you leave! The employees are wonderful and are completely attentive. This time our waitress even served our children before us adults, which doesnt happen all that often in the restaurant world. We love going there every year. In the gift shop, you can purchase maple syrup, maple cotton candy, maple cream, maple candies, etc. along with other souvenirs. They do only accept cash, but there is an ATM located in the lobby just in case.

2022-02-15This is truly a great place. I saw someone post 1 star claiming they didnt like the food, which means that person either does not like pancakes. If you are looking for anything but pancakes you should go somewhere else. Their pancakes are not the fluffy buttermilk ones, but plain ole buckwheat style, which soak up the syrup extremely well - and it literally is all you can eat, they will keep bringing you loads, a takeout order usually have about 10. this is a busy place so expect to wait if you go in on the weekend, even during the week it can be hit and miss when the busy time is, i love to sit by the griddle and watch the never ending production line of pancakes.Waitstaff is great also, very experienced, very organized, and very tentative.
