Casa Mezcal in other cities:
Fun weekend out 🍹🍸🍺 came with friends 🥳🥳🥳 our server Roberto is a really attentive and nice guy !!! He was really helpful in our needs and the food was server really fast 🌮🌮🌮 There’s only 1 thing I didn’t like and is their restrooms!!! It feel really cramped in there I almost bumped my head trying to wash my hands !!! But everything else is ok 👌 will come again
Ive had such a great time with live music playing and some mean food and drinks. So, the cuisine is Mexican fusion with something that made my mind explode. And the owner is a mezcalero for real, and they have amazing mezcal choices (of course), but also quite interesting cocktail menu. Will be back for sure
Our reservation was for 8:30, we were told to wait outside in the cold for roughly an hour. Not only were we seated an hour late, the service was extremely slow and the waiter seemed disinterested. The food also took about an hour and all 8 of our orders were incorrect, and for the price it just came off incredibly unprofessional. We will not be returning.
Casa Mezcal feels like a cute and comfy bistro located in the backyard of a local Mexican church. It’s goth decor and street market style fusion brings immense character and authentic vibes to this LES spot. The food was delicious and the portions were perfect. Aside from the lackluster service the meals were served fast. Definitely recommend for birthdays or small gatherings.
A nice place. Good food, although are small portions but is not to bad about the price.Good mezcal and tequila shots, and the one on color red that I never knew what was.Waiters and a waitress were so nice people.Attended kindly by the owner, he sent us free shots because an Instagram stories mentioning the place. Great!!
Favourite Mexican spot in the LES. Great cocktails (especially the Mezcal margaritas), really cool vibe and the food is totally fantastic. The waiting staff were also fantastic, we had a great meal with a group of 5 which included some people with special eating requirements, which were handled very very well.Oh, and the Mezcal selection needs to be seen to be believed.
I was last here in 2013 and the decline to its current state was very depressing to observe. It used to be a really fun place with great music and timely service. Today the music was distasteful and blaring, and the service was amateur at best and hostile at worst. So many things were forgotten or incorrect that there are too many to name. The most disappointing thing was that the staff were not at all genuinely apologetic. Furthermore, I watched one waiter rip his mask off and yell at the waitress for double ordering our second round of cocktails. They should have just given them to us… but chose to make it a scene in front of customers. I think they are just waiting out their inevitable decline. Do not bother. One star for nostalgia.
Food was good and tacos were fine. Nothing special to note. The drinks were strong and the selection of tequila was large. The venue is small and does not accommodate large parties well. This spot is good for a quick drink at the bar- I won’t come back for dinner again with a large group.
Great tequilaria with friendly and knowledgeable bar tenders. Our server was passionate and really enjoyed talking about mezcal, her favorite type, some of the different variations of mezcal, and finally good ways to enjoy it. It was a fun, quick stop to get away from the busy city, and I would definitely do it again.
The place is nice enough in terms of design and vibe, but dont come hungry. Ridiculously small portions and overpriced drinks. When your $22 taco order shows up and you see more plate than food, theres something wrong. Guys, if youre gonna serve mini tacos, at least fill the plate with some rice beans and lettuce. My 53 110 lb girlfriend eats like a bird.. but still asked the server if this is an appetizer.
Went on a Wednesday evening, outside was fully seated, but inside there were tables available so my cousin and were seated. We looked over the menu on our phones, no one ever came up to us. We flagged down the server after quite some time, then put in our drink orders. The server wasnt exactly polite. We never received the drinks. The tables next to us received drinks, then food, and we did not have our drinks still. We waited patiently and no one ever came up to us. After about 40 minutes from being seated, no drinks and no further service, we got up and left. Looked like a nice spot, but we had a bad experience with service. We walked right by the server on the way out, who did not even see us as she was on her phone. I dont think this is common here but it was not fun being nearly completely ignored.
The outdoor experience was nice. We were seated on the sidewalk by the main entrance, but did not feel uncomfortable in our location. The partition between us and the next table was a bit unstable. If it were windy outside, it could have easily fallen. The staff was great, and the food and drinks were delicious! I would not get the flight of mezcal next time, it is a bit pricey for the amount you are able to sample, instead go for a few of the mezcal drinks, they were great!
Were always late to brunch and most places are usually in their transition period. This place has brunch until 5pm! Which was amazing that we made it. Happy hour specials started shortly after. The place is super cute! The food and drinks were delicious! Well definitely be coming back to try other items on their menu!
A friend and I stopped by Casa Mezcal randomly for lunch. The decor is absolutely gorgeous, literally from floor to ceiling. It has Mexican village vibes and a great bar. The lunch special isnt great though; either a quesadilla or burrito with infused water for $16. Too pricey and limited for a lunch special, in my opinion. We got chicken and steak tacos, both were delicious! I will probably be back during happy hour for margaritas!
I was here with a group. First, I find it hard to have good Mexican food in NYC. This place is great. I deduct a star for the service. I found a long wait time for drinks and follow up. I was seated at a large table and an awkward position and my plate slid off the table. The servers never offered to replace my meal. I ended up eating half my wifes meal. She ordered chicken with mole which was delicious. I enjoyed the mole sauce very much, but I do not understand why the server did not offer to replace my meal? Anyways, I will certainly try this place again, I just hope better service is offered.
Casa Mezcal We have a tradition with two British friends, when they are in town we try a new Mexican restaurant. This time around it was Casa Mezcal. The darkish interior with cozy banquette seating and shared tables between the bar. We had an early reservations before the crowd started to fill up the place. The four of us got a nice cozy table along the wall. Service was a bit spotty, having to flag our waitress down a couple times once the place got busy but the food came out quick orderly fashion. The grasshopper tostadas where interesting. It was a bit woody dry taste in my book. Wait I’m jumping ahead. The other tradition is to order a pitcher of margaritas as those Brits surely know how to drink! He asked for a ‘jug’ of margarita and our server looked at him blankly. I had to translate. A pitcher please. Plain, on the rocks. The chicken tacos were tasty with all the drinking. The shrimp dish looked like plenty of food as well as the steak dish. By the end of the meal we asked if they offered coffee/tea which the waitress said they didn’t offer coffee or tea. Overall, Casa Mezcal was good. The food was alright. The vibe was good. The service was okay. The price decent.
Thought this was a good spot but I didnt like this place drinks were just ok, guacamole was good. But what i really didnt like was that the bartender wasnt attentive he left the bar unattended to fold napkins. i asked him for stirrers and he gave me the stick that they use to put the olives in a martini, lol. Maybe it was because it was Sunday afternoon and they had just opened. I wanted more drinks but because of the poor service i left.
I come here for the amazing lamb stew, shrimp and mushroom tacos, chicken mole. Oh so delicious, as are the mezcal drinks. The decor and atmosphere is fun and homey at the same time. The reason it gets 4 stars instead of 5, is sometimes the food and service can be a little uneven, though Ive been coming here for years, and it often redeems a so-so experience with a great one.
The fish tacos here are amazing... I love them so much I dont order much else here. But the other food looks amazing as well. The mezcal selection is top notch, and the service is always prompt and friendly. They have great happy hour specials also. The atmosphere is dark and inviting.
Really good food, atmosphere, and service. Only complaint were the prices. Happy hour was more expensive than it said it was online. Wine online was supposed to be $4 but then in restaurant it was $6 and margs were $8. The weird part was that all the drinks on the receipt were random prices. My wine was $5.45 while my friend’s $11 beer and shot were $10.10. Can’t complain too much cause it was cheaper than on the menu but it was just weird.
Nice joint. Good food—fresh and authentic and reasonable prices. Atmosphere is pretty comfy, and service is OK. They were pretty accommodating, letting my and my date take a whole both even though we were only two and place was filling up with lots of people. They have pretty interesting cocktails too, including a rum based drink with chocolate, which turned out to be pretty tasty.
My experience was disappointing. We were a party of 4 and stopped in at around 2 pm. As soon as I saw the menu, my reaction was, where are the rest of the choices? Maybe because it was 2 pm, maybe it was a lunch menu, but there were like 5 options. All 4 of us ordered tacos, no liquor, no soda. My bill came to $80 and Im still not sure why!
The mezcal margarita does not disappoint. Quite tasty. Was there on a busy hot summer Friday night. The AC was pretty much nonexistent and the service was not great. Waited a long time to have drinks brought to table. Shrimp tacos and Chicken quesadilla delicious. The guacamole and queso fundido were womp womp ☹️. Overall, go for the drinks. You can get better authentic Mexican food for a cheaper price at other places. And dont let them seat you at the table right by the kitchen window unless you dont mind being blasted by heat.
The shrimp was dry (perhaps I should have stuck to tacos). My boyfriend ordered a chicken that looked like someone vomited on a plate, The taste was mediocre (something with pumpkin). I ordered a drink to try something new and it was the most disgusting drink Ive ever had. Perhaps it was a personal preference but when I asked for a different drink the manager said he still has to charge me for the disgusting drink (guava), which I thought was insane considering the glass was tiny and I took a small sip before letting the waitress know it was insanely horrible tasting. Ive been to really good Mexican restaurants in the city. Considering the competition im surprised how horrible the service was. Had to call a waitress over to take our drink order then she disappeared for at least 30 minutes. Then we sat waiting for the check (the table was already cleared) for about 40 minutes. I do not recommend anyone goes here considering other options in the city. I was shocked there were ppl in there but It seemed like a hang out spot. I dont think anyone can ruin tacos so if youre obliged to go here stick to the basics.
If youve never had Mezcal this is the place to go! The atmosphere is fun and authentic. We had a large party and the staff was awesome. I wanted to learn more about the Mezcal so I asked the bartender. He knew everything! And was happy to teach me (going above and beyond). Oh and the food was perfect!
As the name implies, they sure do know their Mexican spirit based drinks, particularly mezcal. There is an extensive mezcal margarita menu with some build it yourself components as well as a good selection of cocktails. They also cover the range of sweet to spicy fairly well. The atmosphere is nice and fairly authentic. The food menu is small but what they did have looked quite good.
Delicious real Mexican flavor!!!Definitely a real flavor in the food. Im Mexican and Chilanga so I can recognize real Mexican food. We were surprised with the menu. I had really good arrachera and soup. The guacamole taste like mine and the margaritas with mezcal were good too. Definitely Ill come back again.
Since first discovering this place back in 2009 (before their kitchen even opened) I have returned here time and again for the best (spiciest!) mezcal based cocktails and tastiest, most authentic Mexican cuisine in Manhattan. Try the grasshoppers with cheese - you wont regret it. If youre less adventurous give the tlayuda a shot. Its delicious.
The spacious restaurant faced north, waiting to lure us in from the streets, with its floor sign and dark, calm ambiance. Barrio Chino simply had too many rambunctious kids for a cool Sunday night; we needed a refuge from their shrill screeching, as well as a recess from our stifling hunger. So we walked.Where there are a la carte tacos, where the soundtrack is a sirens song, where there are temptations to be resisted, objects of love to be fought for or cooked, apathy is overthrown, and we will spend at least $10. The tacos arrived quickly, and the beef ones tasted the best, although none of them were superb. Fortunately, the two sauces sitting at each table carried our meal to the taco-apex; both were addictively tasty, and almost as hot as the friendly waitresses.I dream of returning, even hungrier, to enjoy divine memories of sauce being brought back to life.
L.E.S. is Home-Sweet-Home to me, and glad that Casa Mezcal is in my neighborhood! Came here for Google Brunch and this place was fantastic. Three-story of happiness...food and beer and all the intoxicating drinks you can think of. The bar on the first floor is filled with liquor on the wall, but have you examined closely and check out their art work. The wall has all these artifacts, not truely understanding what it means, but you can sense that this place has an amazing, rich, Spanish culture/heritage. Your party dont have to stop there, because there is a secret entrance leading to the second and third floor. You can jam it up on one of those floors and continue to enjoy your stay at Casa Mezcal. With windows big enough to peek out onto Orchard, you wont feel like you are missing a thing. With couches, tables, dining chairs, food to this place, makes this place feel like...well...a CASA! Its good to be home, make Casa Mezcal one of yours.
I went there nine years ago for the burlesque show in which A. was performing (a bored bunny who sang life is boring, a song he might have composed himself). fun stuff happened on stage, also where i was sitting. someone called J. (as in jota) was sitting at the bar. did i shake his hand or go straight for a kiss on the cheek? i was a bit tipsy, dont remember. nor do i recall when he decided to sit right next to me on a chair (i was on a green couch with some others). i found a photo i took of him that night. he had a wig out of some prop thrown from the stage. his right thumb and index finger rested on his face artfully suggesting he was thinking, or onto something. he says he kissed me there. i remember kissing him outside. anyway, it has been nine years since that first kiss. we dont celebrate anniversaries, but we go to casa mezcal to remember the first kiss. we also love mezcal very much. it is J.s favorite drink, as a matter of fact.
Absolutely love this LES spot! I most recommend the tacos with homemade Chorizo and a mezcal margarita. This trendy, exotic, and tiny little place is worth a visit for the extraordinary Mexican food with a focus on dishes from the state of Oaxaca. When youre done with dinner go upstairs for a show or downstairs to the lounge called the Botanic Lab - they have different live shows (flamenco, cuban salsa, etc) and Ive never been disappointed by them.
Great brunch deal, for $15 you can have eggs benedict, omelet or huevos rancheros, with rice and beans plus mimosa, michelada or coffee. The special mexican omelet is really good, and the coffee is sweet and special. On sundays they have Tamar korn singing on the top floor
Hidden in the heart of Chinatown where once the Triad Mafia roamed, cantonese mixed with English slang was shouted, and Opium dens became bars. There, you can find a wonderful new joint; From the owner of “Los Amantes Mezcal” comes...”Casa Mezcal”.Fried Grasshoppers (Chapulines), Mezcal Flights (North to South States of Mexico), what an evening!Wonderful service!
Cute place, cant vouch for the food and drink one way or the other, the service was sooooo bad we got up and left, something I havent done in years -- but when youve been waiting 30 minutes for your first drink and the server then claims they are right there waiting on the bar and then another ten minutes go by, and nobody even notices your party of four leaving the establishment...wellllll...methinks the place could use a maitre d!

2022-03-22It is what it is is now as common as hectic in our parlance. Here, it tells you that you are going to get a perfectly tuned bar that specialises in mezcal and tex mex food. You wont be blown away, but you will be satisfied by very good margaritas and eats that will keep your thirst for these going. The service is friendly and knowledgeable, as you can expect most places in this part of this town.

2022-07-03Party that I attended here was so well organized and staff was very efficient and polite. Honestly, Im not the biggest fan of tacos, but these were amazing! They made them differently and wow, i got to live and learn! Cocktails were excellent, especially the ones with gin and mezcal. Ive been told they have a variety of live music and Ill be back for some dancing- for sure!

2021-08-08Based on the other reviews and some searching on Google I perhaps had some expectations that were too high. Nice decor and good food (presentation and taste). But prices still seemed a bit high based on the size of the plates and quality of service.

2022-04-04DO NOT COME HERE !!!!! I came here on Thursday 3/31 and the receipt for my bill 89.27 I have it in my hand see attached pictures HOWEVER they charged my credit card 105.67 and I have been calling since Friday and leaving message and they keep telling me we will call you back in a few minutes the manager stepped out. This is ridiculous and it’s fraud you can’t give a receipt for one price and then charge me something else and on top of that the food was mediocre. My classic margaritas were good but the place was dirty with terrible service it took 15 minutes for a server to even acknowledge us. I would never ever step foot in this place RUN RUN RUN I will write a review every day on every platform because you cannot scam people this is ridiculous please do not come to this restaurant they should not be in business. UPDATE! The owner just called me a few minutes ago and told me that I checked the 20% box on my receipt & that I did not get a receipt with the tip amount included because they dont do that in the USA and while I was explaining to her that I did not check any boxes and left a $20 cash tip because I dont tip via card ever because I want to make sure the server actually gets the tip and the whole time this lady was laughing at me I LOST IT how can you laugh at a customer and blame them for their bad experience that is EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL and of course now that Im writing reviews I get a call also very UNPROFESSIONAL.TAKE YOUR MONEY ELSEWHER. UPDATED AFTER OWNER RESPONSE ! I never called and insulted anyone I simply said I had been calling for days without being helped also I did not regret my tip The point is that I tipped in cash not on my card PERIOD there was no confusion on my end I love how this business continues to blame the customer

2021-12-04If I could give this place 0 stars, i definitely would. This place is definitely overhyped. First the hostess told us the wait would be a 10 minute wait and she gave the table to another party. We agreed to wait 30-40 for the next table and then she called me to tell me it would be 1 hour. Once the table was available, we waited even more. Once we were seated, NO ONE paid attention to us. As a party of 7 we thought the waiters would tend to us, but NO. This place definitely discriminates because another party that was seated after us got their drinks when no one even asked us anything. So if you’re a person of color, don’t go here. THEY WILL IGNORE YOU.Thank you for the free book though

2022-06-17Was sat outside and the waitress completely forgot about us. She never came back to our table and we had to go inside to ask to order. I got my drink after our food came. Then they never cleared our table. 2 hours later we had to go back in to ask for the bill. The bill had 4 wrong over charge items on it, 2 extra cocktails and 2 extra tacos making it $50 more than what we ordered. They had to charge and void my friends credit card 3 times before getting it right. The manager was practically yelling at us... his breath very clearly smelled like booze. This is my 2nd visit to this restaurant, the first time was great but I will not be returning. The food and cocktails were good which is why I gave 2 stars instead of 1.

2022-02-17This is definitely a better happy hour place than a brunch/lunch/dinner restaurant. Good margaritas, chips and salsa. The Aztec Mole Cake was not good, the whole thing tasted sour with some chiles blended in. I did not take more than two bites.

2022-01-24The food and drink were very delicious and staff was very friendly.
